Share your tributes and memories of Capt. John Gaffaney. One of the Fort Hood victims, Gaffaney, 56, was a psychiatric nurse who worked for San Diego County, Calif., for more than 20 years and had arrived at Fort Hood the day before the shooting to prepare for a deployment to Iraq. He is survived by his wife and son.

It seems so short of sufficient to simply say, thank you. But the work you did, with the greatest of intentions is sure to have had a great impact on someone's life and on our country. Our hearts go out to your family as this terrible time in their lives. I hope amongst the sadness they remember the good times and can move forward. Rest in peace.
We did not have the honor of knowing Capt. John Gaffaney but can tell (from his short bio) that he was a man who cared deeply about others and his country. We extended our deepest sympathy to his loved ones. It must be so difficult to deal with his senseless murder but we hope they can find some solace in their memories with him.
We, Americans, are so proud of our Men and Women in uniform and the civilians who work beside them. While the loved ones of those who were murdered (as well as those injured and their families) have a very difficult road ahead of them, we hope they can find some comfort in knowing that the citizens of the United States of America mourns with them and will keep them all in our thoughts and/or prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Capt. John Gaffaney, what a tragic loss of life?
I hope Capt. Gaffaney's family find comfort in the knowledge that his memory will live on.
CPT Gaffaney who I remember last as a MAJ in the CA Army National Guard was one of those officers who related well to the enlisted corps. Out at Ft Irwin or Camp Roberts, you could always rely on him to do the right thing and execute his duties fully with that familiar smile. CPT Gaffaney was a tanker full heartedly and really enjoyed being apart of the military. His commitment to support the Army in his later years clearly indicated that he was one of the finer patriots this county had to offer. Dear Mrs Gaffaney and Matthew - we will always hold CPT Gaffaney dear to our hearts. Rest in peace sir.
What a tragic and senseless loss. My prayers are with the surviving family and friends of this magnificent soldier. God Bless America and all the other soldiers and family involved in this tragedy. May this so-called Psychiatrist get what is coming to him and fast--the Death Penalty.....
My sympathies to the family for this horrific tragedy. God bless you.

John was a friend to many of us here at the County of SD and will be greatly missed. He had such a great heart, was always there for his staff to help in whatever way he could, was very knowledgable and professional, worked hard, made us laugh, was a great listener, and was such a pleasure to work with in so many ways. Our prayers are with Chris, his son, and the rest of his family. We miss you John!
We're thinking of you & your family at this time, Matthew. Your father will always be a noble hero in our eyes even though we did not have the honor of meeting him. God bless Capt. John Gaffaney.
