*LIN*Sanity at that..... Maybe it's a good thing I don't work for ESPN, that would surely be a 'chink in the armor' I would think..... I dunno, that is pretty damned funny....
What they're actually saying is that their economic system is working about as well as frozen spinach on a stick, so only their "fearless leaders" have anything to lose by starting a war. Actually, I was somewhat surprised that they didn't get something going after watching what happened in iet Nam...
@bryan - Your comment is both offensive and has little if anything to do with the article since this is about Korea not China. Please grow up or crawl back under your rock until you do.
Oh poor Js in SD, you poor pc dork. I am about as liberal as it gets, and your asking me to grow up? haha... also, as a general rule, the way I have lived my life, I have friends from all walks of life, and we don't let the little(read, dumb sh!t) get us down, we make fun of each other as often as possible. That headline, and my statement, is little stuff. The term, "chink" in the armor, has been around since right after armor was invented, and it received a chink in it, hence, a chink in the armor, get the phuck over it, save your pc crap for your pity party, and either vote Ron Paul, or, caste your vote for 4 More Years of Obama. What's it gonna be? G'Day Mate.
All of this political instability needs to stop. I say we bring back politcal assassinations and put an end to this nonsense. The US needs to cut the heads off of these snakes before they bite us. North Korea has shown that they have nukes. They will sell them to our enemies (or share their technologies) since they are so impoverished. People are starving to death over there and the regime of militaristic mad men only care about rattling their sabers?
Had we just let General Patton, continue his march....We probably wouldn't have these problems....
NKorea is not stupid enough to start an "All out War". There would be NO benefit to anyone...China, would probably let them fall, because at least SKorea, would be of some benefit to them.....LOL
If not and China helped militarily, The US would say "UP YOURS" to the debt, America owes them...and MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, America would become the manufacturing SUPER POWER, it once was....
OK, so the son joined his father in hell, what has changed. We still have a idiot in the white house, more on capital hill, and we are half owned by China. Yes, life is good! I am supprised Obama did not attend the funeral, he has no problem bowing to despots in the middle east. It is a shameful thing we have become, our forfathers are turning in their graves for what the liberal left has turned this country into.
"Now more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature.... If the next centennial does not find us a great nation ... it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces." James Garfield, the twentieth president of the United States, 1877
NKorea is not stupid enough to start an "All out War".
I believe they are, actually.
If not and China helped militarily, The US would say "UP YOURS" to the debt, America owes them...
We can't just say to the Chinese, "too bad, we're not paying you back." China will dump the investments. That would have a serious impact on the value of our currency, possibly even rendering it worthless (which of course wipes out our economy). The investors that own our debt have us by the balls, like it or not.
and MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, America would become the manufacturing SUPER POWER, it once was....
I don't believe that's possible when we have $15T in outstanding debt and red ink as far as the eye can see. We are beholden to our debt-holders and not really free to make the changes necessary to bring manufacturing back.
Who says political assassination ever went away? Personally, I think countries have just gotten better at hiding it behind "revolutions", "uprisings", "coups", etc. and have gotten more judicious about when & where they do it. I think they've also gotten better at using other methods like bribery, sanctions, and other "strong-arm tactics".
Just another tantrum by the irate child in search of attention, sadly our leadership obliges. We need to call their bluff in this ongoing game of cards. Like so many other countries in the ME and elsewhere the bottom line is they want someone to feed the masses while they use their resources to build a better offense to use against us in the future.Bill Clinton was going to take out the nuke facilities there but failed to go through with the plan due to opposition and now we see the fruits of not stamping out a fire when it first began, now we have a full fledged forrest fire. The same situation now exists in Iran and we sit back chewing our fingernails waiting for the inevitable. We have the technology and resources to quench the fire without involving troops and getting in a quagmire of despair. I know it sounds like looking for trouble but if we sit back and do nothing soon trouble will be knocking at the door--here! I do not have all the answers but sitting on our hands will not accomplish much and we are not dealing with resonalble people here.
RealityCheck, I agree. This young buffoon is not trust worthy, and probably believes in the fairy tales of how powerful they are (not so) told to him by his military. The fact of the matter is China dislikes these third world wackado's as much as we do. If they would go forward with a war they would lose a quarter of their population to famine immediatly and another half to obliteration, leaving them with nothing but massive immigration south to China, something China wants no part of.
when are we going to stop paying tribute to North Korea to buy them off; last year alone right at 1 billion dollars, plus hundreds of thousand tons of food; cut the crazy little country off; if they want to go to war, so be it, get it over with, and get rid of the nut jobs running that dump.
North Korea may be irrational in how they view the world, but don't confuse irrationality with stupidity. Kim Jong Un, and his advisors aren't stupid. They know very well that North Korea doesn't have the recourses or technology to compete with South korea, not to mention the US, Japan and Europe. Moreover, China may be keeping the North Korean people (barely) alive, but Chinese support would vanish is the North instigated an "all-out" war.
One day, soon we hope, China will gently tell the North Koreans to STFU. They have carried them for sixty years and got little in return but cancelled check stubs. This sounds a bit like some aspects of US foreign policy . . . pay, pay, and pay again. It rarely works, or if it works then not for long.
Actually it is to China and Russia's advantage to assist NK. By doing so, America has to divert resources to this part of the world. The same goes for Iran. Help Iran a little and the US and NATO has to expend resources here as well.
Putin want's to be the new emperor of Russia. He is cracking down on civil liberties just as much as China continues to do. I'm really not surprised that both of them are in bed with North Korea and Iran. Perhaps they are trying to form a new country.
The Chinese and Russian Federation have been using Fundamentalist Islamic Iran and the North Koreans as "Proxy Fighters" in a big Chess Game to get the US and US Allies out of their Backyards (Resources) of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, etc. and the US and US Allies do not even know how to play Chess.
The Result in the Middle East: US and US Allies lost: a. Strategic Access to the Suez Canal., b. Mediterranean Ports at Egypt, Libya, etc.., c. the Iraqis Oil to the Allies of Iran the Chinese and Russian Federation., d. US Ally Saudi Arabia now surrounded., e. loss of the Port at Yemen to Al Quada Yemen., f. loss of the High Tech Mineral Wealth of Afghanistan to Ally of Iran, the Chinese., g. loss of Libyan Oil to Iran's Ally the Chinese., h. overthrow of US Allies President of Egypt, President of Yemen, President of Libya (President Obama's CIA Prisoners at Gaddaffi's Prisons)., i. Iran's 21st Century Military versus US 1960s to 1990s Technology, with Iran acting as a gatekeeper to the Straits of Hormuz (allow the Oil shipments to China and Russia and stopping shipments to US and US Allies)., j. Iran's ICBMs and IRBMs as to why President Obama backpeddled on not deploying Landbased US Military ABMs to Europe as President Bush's Plan, President Obama's deployment to Romania December 31, 2011., k. threat of deployment of Iranian IRBMs to South and Central Americas., l. etc..
The results in Asia: a. China's increased Sphere of Influence., b. China allowing the build up of ICBMs and IRBMs at Asian Nations., c. China allowed the shipments of ICBMs from North Korea to Iran, thru Bejing China 2010., d. the potential threats at Asia with the US Military concentrating on Asia instead of the Middle East per President Obama (too little too late, especially with the ongoing RIF of 80,000 + 27,000 returning from the Wars + 10,000 returning from Germany (closed US Bases))., e. China's PLAN One, starting with their Aircraft Carrier (Shi Lang), and building two more., f. etc..
Results in Africa: a. Loss of US Ally Libya to Iran and the Libyan Oil to the Chinese., b. increased activities against US Allies., c. Somalia falling to Islamic Jihadists Al Sheebah., d. etc..
The question remains is if the Chinese can use their brand new GE AP-1000 US Nuclear Power Plant Technology in the future for their Aircraft Carriers.
@david - T put it bluntly, you do not know what yo are talking about. Many of your so-called "results" are pure fiction while others are exaggerations or intentional misstatements. The US has not lost access to the Suez Canal, never used ports in Libya and rarely ever used ports in Egypt, certainly have not lost access to Iraqi oil, Saudi Arabia is no more "surrounded now than before, rarely ever used any ports in Yemen, has not lost mineral wealth to anyone because we never accessed it to start with but could easily do so, and Iran has no more control over the Straight of Hormuz than they ever did. As for your claims about Obama's reasoning for policy changes regarding deployment of ABMs, you do not know what you are talking about. As for your "result" in Asia, again you do not have a clue. Iran has not received any ICBMs from North Korea because North Korea does not have them to export to start with. Iran currently has no ICBM capability and only limited IRBMs with poor reliability and accuracy.
As for the subject of the article, this is nothing but more of the same saber rattling from the North Koreans. They are not foolish enough to openly attack South Korea because they know the retaliation would be swift and devastating. The incidents that have occurred recently were relatively minor and they maintained some level of deniability on the sinking of the South Korean vessel, even though it is generally accepted that they were responsible for it. They would never launch an open large scale offensive attack on South Korea. This is just their new leader trying to act tough in order to look good to his followers and keep the party leaders supporting him. The claims that the joint US-South Korean drill are a prelude to an attack are just to try and keep their people's support for the military first policy.
The only person that does not know what they are talking about is YOU. As you never were here (Middle East) NOW to see for yourself.
Example: The loss of US Ally Egypt to the Muslim Brotherhood. The loss of Iraq to Iran. The loss of US Ally Yemen. MEANS US ALLY SAUDI ARABIA IS NOW SURROUNDED. Get off your lazy arse and look at a map.
As far as the Deployment of US Military Land Based ABMs to Romania go research the US Department of State Internet Website.
So how about getting your uninformed Political cronism and sniff a Demoncrap arse.
SO SURE, JS in SD, YOU DON"T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.
And having to have "Dealth with this" since the 1980s as a US Military Officer (US Military Asymmetric Warfare) during the Life or Death School of Hard Knocks; NOW your being so uninformed as a Political Crony, this will all be on Generation X and Generation Y to Deal With (Life or Death Situations), as in less than 3.5 months my arse (as well as a lot of us (US Military)) are going back on Retirement again NEVER to be Recalled again as "Too Old".
I am talking about matters of Life or Death, What are YOU Talking about.
Hard to believe that the South Koreans are finally doing anything other than kowtowing to North Korea. It's about time they finally got some balls and made some tiny little gesture to stand up to the North, rather than the usual placating, subservient, submissive posturing. Only when South Korea begins to show that they are not afraid will the North finally leave them alone... typical 2nd grade bullying prevention psychology.
David - Using your own blog to support your incorrect statements is laughable. You have never posted anything from any reputable source to prove anything I have said as being wrong. Please grow up or just go away.
This sword rattling by Un is really designed to get more aid out of Obama. How can I say this? Simple! Let's go back to last August, when BHO sent $900,000.00 to help NK with "flooding that occurred in May. Think of the excuse here used by BHO. A flood hits NK in May so, BHO sends in nearly 4 months later.
That has been the typical response even from the past administration. You make it sound like this is something new. 900K? This probably a fraction of what Bush sent.
With all this sabre rattling, perhaps the international community should instead send them a body bag; and a little drink laced with syanide to assisanate these trouble making leaders there....
As to sending more financial aid, I'd be in favor of delivering the middle finger, and keeping the tax payer's dollars here at home, to help balance our own budget with; before we go paying off the Kim family...
The US provided FOOD, not money, to those starving in North Korea which was estimated at a value of $900,000 and South Korea gave FOOD estimated at 5 Million. The reason it came 4 months later was because North Korea was running out of supplies and we helped because these people have nothing to do with Kim Jong Un other than the misfortune to be born in his country.
I don't get it big mac-4590839, Why is it that the North side of town, is always at WAR with the South side of town? It all just seems so, well, Un-Civil to me.
You do that AFTER 3.5 months when I finally get to go back on Retirement again, as "Too Old" to ever be Recalled to Active Duty again (and again and again).
Tired of being the 1% of US Citizens of the US Military doing those things that the 92% of US Citizens that have Never Served in the US Military refuse to do (while being paid below minimum wage).
I will pass your thanks to my Teams, as they have kept me alive this long (since the 1980s) and my only role is leading them, being responsible and accountable for them as their OIC (Officer In Charge).
Dave, thank you for serving. But please don't harbor so much anger at citizens who don't serve. Not all of us are cut out to be in the military. I seriously doubt 92% of us refuse to serve as you put it.
do we need a nation at war...to match our military...i'll shall ponder...should i wear a tux... with tennis shoes...or cowboy boots....i'm leaning towards sandals...
Well once we strip those of retirement age, and those who are too young to serve (not 18 yet) out of the equation; I don't think 92% of the remainder could serve. Until they tone down their eating at McDonalds, that is... The military doesn't exactly want people with obesity issues, until after they get their weight under control. Rather large people, in the wrong way, wouldn't exactly make it through basic training.... Though they might become a drill seargant's unintended example to the trainees, prior to having a coronary when they have to go for a jog; if ya catch my drift. Being called out by the seargant for being fat, well many an American who would try to enlist as such, best have nerves of steel...
Absolutely Intellect, hell, it's worked many times, like, times were never so good here than they were Post WWII. People working, troops coming home and getting married, starting families. Folks buying houses, furnishings, cars.
For Crying out loud! N. Korea already fired at and killed some S. Koreans in 2010 that to me seems to have been a break in the "cease fire" that's been in effect since 1953. Enough; let them bastards start something already. Once they get a good taste of "shock and awe" maybe the'll beg us to stop bombing the living crap out of them. Then N. Korea can finally reunite under the S. Korean flag...
Oh wait, maybe I should say the "politically correct" thing; please mighty N. Korea don't scare us with your mighty and invincible military we beg of you...
The largest foreign holder of U.S. debt is China, which owns more about $1.2 trillion in bills, notes and bonds, according to the Treasury Department. So really they don't own that much. The majority of the debt is held by Americans. Also, if we did go to war, or continue it as the case may be, and China does get involved. We just cancel our debt to them.
No one is ever going to 'eat America for dinner' our military is the strongest in the world and everyone (nations) knows this. Our number of troops is not at the level of China and possibly Russia, but, our military might is unprecedented. Plus, we feed the world. Because of our exports of agriculture, these other nations survive. They are still hungry. But, to annihilate America would be cutting off the hand that feeds you.
We do have the strongest military in the world. We spend more for it and have the best weapons and the most free people. Unfortunately it is impoverishing our country by increasing the debt and inflating the costs of good and services. We have lost a good chunk of our industrial base and the middle class. Ron Paul is correct. End all wars. Bring our troops home and put them on our borders and working on OUR infrastructure. I hope we get smart enough to pull out of about 80% of all foreign bases including all troops from Korea, Japan, and Germany. Let THEM pay for their OWN defense.
The Chinese don't want NK to start anything either. China is finally getting their country in order. The people are beginning to do better, the government is pouring vast sums into their infrastructure. China alway supported NK due to the Korean war. NK can't even feed their own populace, China supports them
This is just saber rattling by the new guy to prove to the military he can do it. China isn't going to risk war with the US over NK. They need us as much as we need them.
A couple problems here; we have a technological superiority, that is for sure HOWEVER China has numbers. We're a country of 330 million or so, they're a country of 1.6 billion. Our population sizes aren't close, and if China has a mandatory enlistment.... Yes, our technology gives us an edge; but the numbers could result in things getting very ugly, very fast. It wouldn't be like kill several off and they stop comming, if the Chinese gov't is committed....
Given the financial picture with them holding our debt, exactly how would we keep things in operation if they cut the funding off to us. We could dip into the national reserves, but without money to buy more oil for instance; would the exporters chose to be charitable to us? The Fed could decide to print their way through the mess, but if word gets out that nations aren't lending us money anymore, and with printing presses gone wild a way to drive up inflation, would people want our money still if it came to all of that? Things aren't as clear cut, as some might assume once numbers, and bankruptcy hits...
This said, North Korea building nukes, would make good targets for a bombing mission. One wouldn't need to use nukes, to make a nuclear facility go boom, and release it's radioactivity on the surrounding area/hence maximising the effects of the attack. In this way, they can have helped build the bomb that would blow up on them :p Perhaps a lil covert sabotage, meant to cause the thing to go off in the most locally devastating way possible could get the point accross over how unsafe nukes can be made, clear to them also :p
Nuad, I agree that population is in the PRC's favor, but, they are all in China while the West is spread across two continents. I had a history teacher in high school who said that if you lined up all the Chinese and started them marching off a cliff that there would be no end to them, the birth rate is so high. Naturally, some wise-ass raised his hand and asked; "How would they "Do it?" They would all be marching." But, the teacher made his point, to me anyway. One thing in our favor are the two oceans separating us and so far the PRC has no technology, no experience in moving an army across the ocean and landing it. If one major nation should be worried it's the Russian Federation because there have already been armed clashes between the two and I suspect that the Russians would only be too happy to see America "Let loose" on the PRC, and, would probably help because they have a interest in seeing the PRC eliminated as a world threat. The two are not Communist buddies, Chinese leaders have said often enough that Russia is a traitor to the cause of World Communism.
I find it funny the Iranian advocates on the stories about Iran and that whole nuclear mess cite the reason Iran needs nukes is to deter the U.S. invasion.
From this article;
North Korea says joint U.S.-South Korea drills are a rehearsal for a northward invasion.
So North Korea isn't too secure in that deterrent?
They don't really have a choice. Ever since the USSR collapsed and their paycheck disappeared, the DPRK had to take on its fictional "son'gun" policy and base their government's legitimacy solely upon deterrence. Which is why they will never give up their nuclear weapons, because it's their only reason to justify existing as a government.
Enough already. Stop your posturing, Lil Kim. Do what your dead ass daddy did not do. Bring your game or shut up. Posturing like this means nothing. prepare to visit the stone age if you do...no wiat, you are already there.
Somehow it does not seem right to fight a country where everyone looks like Speed Racer.
There would be nothing better in the world than if somehow Iran and North Korea got in an all out war with each other. I think I'd go outside and bang pots and pans like I did at new years as a little kid.
They (Iran and North Korea) are on the same side. In 2010 North Korea shipped their copies of Chinese copies of USSR SS-18 ICBMs to Iran thru Bejing China.
In 2011, Iran put a monkey into orbit 15 times with one of these missiles, proving that this is a true ICBM, that uses Earth Rotation to traverse the distances and can strike any target on Earth. It is believed that these ICBMs have modern GNCs (Guidance Navigation and Controls) manufactured by the Chinese.
2011, the US intercepted another shipment of these North Korean ICBMs to Iran at Redacted.
N.Korea better realize that any military action taken against S.Korea will result in America and many other NATO countries retaliating. If it comes to that I hope they blow the communist scum off the map! There another Iran trying to develope nukes and threaten the rest of the world.
The American government desperately needs a distraction so the gullible goyim will ignore the derivatives bubble. Let the good times roll, Goldman-Sachs can issue unlimited derivatives. Why stop at 1.5 quadrillion dollars? The regulators and rating agencies have all been paid off. Rampant and blatant corruption has never before reached this level in any crime syndicate. You ain’t seen nothing yet. The gangsters have control of both houses of congress, and the judiciary, and complete control over the executive branch too. They are running the printing presses like gangbusters now and looking for some distraction to get you back to watching “Dancing with the stars.”
Goldman Suks and other banks like it including the The Fed Reserve has done more financial and economic damage to this country than NK, Iran or any terrorists could possibly ever do.
Credit Derivative Swaps, the shadow market and casino of the privileged who's loss insurance are the hapless taxpayers via bailouts.
Sad isn't it that President Obama does not reinstate the Glass Steagall Acts to end the Financial Weapons of Mass Destruction (like Goldman Sachs used on Greece) as well as to end the Current $60 Trillion to $100 Trillion "Global Economic Crisis" consisting of the "Mortgage Crisis", "Wall Street Crisis", "Financial Crisis", "Banking Crisis", "Credit Crisis", etc..
Don't worry if President Obama does not reinstate the Glass Steagall Acts the next "Crisis" is already building up to $54.6 Trillion that will permanently sink the US into a Depression worse than the Great Depression (people literally starving to death).
@GaryL - if Obama spends $9 trillion over the next 4 years I would be ECSTATIC! That would mean he has developed a budget surplus (US Tax Revenues are $2.5 trillion annually X 4 years = $10 trillion). I think you meant running $9trillion in deficit spending over the next 4 years and that is not the case either. The 2013 budget has about $900 billion in deficit spending; winding down the war in Afghanistan and assuming we don't end up in another one with Iran/N. Korea, then over the next 4 years, the budget deficit should be nearly gone. Unfortunately, we would be $18 trillion in the hole (give or take). The US government should not have to be debt free, but I think limiting federal debt to 25% of GDP is wise which means the US government would have to run a budget surplus of about $2.5 trillion for about 6 years in order to reduce US debt to 25% of GDP by around 2025 (assuming about 2% US GDP growth). Good luck with that. What a mess.
David
Just how do you think the President can Glass- Steagall? I believe Congress would have to do that. Or do you not remember that separation of powers thing?
We should pull every soldier we have out of Soth Korea and let'em have at it. Pull out of Japan as well. Build forts along the Rio Grande. Put'em there. All we need is Wallstreet's permission.
ILLEGAL to use Federal Active US Military. And against President Obama's April 2009 Policy (with Mexican President) and August 2009 Policy (with Canadian Prime Minister) as stated by President Obama, "US Military will not be used to secure US Borders".
Posse comitatus was enacted after the US Civil War to limit the use of US Military personnel acting on behalf of local civilian authorities. Posse comitatus supplemented the Insurrection Act of 1807 which was designed to limit the authority of the POTUS to deploy US troops to put down an insurrection and to instead rely on state troops to squash rebellion. The idea was that we had just gotten rid of a King and did not trust an overly powerful executive branch. In 2006, the Congress modified the Insurrection Act by burying into a Defense Spending Bill the right of the POTUS to use forces after natural disasters or when local forces were inadequate to address disaster issues. President Bush signed it and wanted broader powers. The provisions were repealed in 2008 (note Republicans increased the power of the POTUS and Democrats reduced it). Long story short, you don't want an all powerful POTUS able to wield US forces domestically however he/she sees fit. That is not a wise thing. Interestingly enough, the Navy/Marines are not clearly called out in the Insurrection Act and neither is the US Coast Guard. Hmmm...
p.s. - do you really think illegal immigration is that great of a threat?
WRONG, The National Guard has already been helping secure the U.S. border for a while now. Last time I checked, the are and arm of the U.S. Military. You must have missed that class at Officer School Dave................
National Guard and Active Duty Army are two entirely different things. On is funded by the state, the other by the national government. Since the Guard is a State run organization, they can be used differently then Active Duty.
We have a possible WW3 scenario about to take place with Iran, and now this BS as well?
I swear 2012 may not be the end of the world like some have said, but it could be the end of millions of people's lives if these F---king countries continue to say the word WAR WAR WAR!
I just don't understand the world anymore its all falling apart all at once.
The whole European nations are near revolution, Russia and China are lashing out at the US or anyone who tries to stop Iran, then we have the US economy falling apart.
I mean what the hell is coming next?
Oh ya I forgot.....a possible huge solar flare that could hit the earth and put us all back in the dark ages for 6 months to 2 years.
2012 will be remembered as the beginning of the end, meaning the way we used to live will soon be totally f---ked up for hundreds of years.
I am really starting to think some of these world leaders want a self proclaimed 2012 end game to happen.
There all f---king nuts, and will make WW2 and Hitler look like as if it was a good time to be alive.
J-H-C stop this cr-ap already leave us all alone in our little homes with our T.Vs and toasters to microwave ovens and censored internet.
Just let us all have one tiny place in this world where there isn't a camera or someone telling you your a terrorist to whatever.
I'm scared as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.
And just wait until the Andromedan Inter-Galactic Army lands in the beaches of New Jersey! They will have no mercy, since they do not need our puny little backwards planet or its resources. They just want us to STFU, and stop clogging the radio spectrum with useless drivel and hysteria, so the only way to do that is to exterminate all human life. We brought it on ourselves. Meanwhile, I have a bottle or two of fine whiskey needing some love and attention, so I think I will devote myself to more pragmatic matters.
"swear 2012 may not be the end of the world like some have said, but it could be the end of millions of people's lives if these F---king countries continue to say the word WAR WAR WAR"
Fear mongering...something Wall Street...OPEC and other conglomerates like to keep you in a constant state of is fear. So you'll pay more for gas... and they can chalk it up to "global tensions".
Whatever... the Korean war is beyond the memory of most living Koreans. North Korea is nothing but a hollowed out shell of a country and if it wishes to remain so then so be it. If they attack... most likely China won't be there for them this time.
I doubt anyone is going to side with North Korea in a fight. This little "World War III" wet dream is pretty childish. It'll involve three countries and Britain, and that's the extent of the war. North Korea has no friends willing to send men to die for them, and nobody will really care what happens to that regime.
albo.....different from tea party.....you need to stop your ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NBC, CNN "brainwashing" sessions...LMAO! They are wasting any intelligence left from rational thought you may have had.
But when they're all drinking the Kim family cool aid, and worshiping the Kims in some cult of personality thing... That drinking the cyanide lased cool aid, would be committing suicide, didn't seem to matter to the fanatics in Jonestown, very much....
Dangrs, Brainwashing 24 million captive citizens is as easy as brainwashing a few hundred million more like in the PRC. Just manage affairs until the populace is starving, they'll do anything a government wants, believe anything they are told to believe, and, lol, attack in any direction.
Dangrs1- It is easy to brainwash the population of a whole nation if you start at birth and do not let them see anything of the outside world. Most people in North Korea have never seen anything other than what their government wanted them to see. Oh, and it helps if you have a suffocating internal security aparatus that crushes first incling of dissent (even if it is not real dissent but a figmetn of their paranoia).
Not to mention that Koreans, the South included, have a culture that is based on race and nationalism. These go hand-in-hand with the DPRK's propaganda.
You should see the sort of education that takes place in a North Korean school. Many people would be very surprised, if they can get passed all the Kim Jong Ill worship that was taking place, and stomach it enough to keep looking through....
George Bush and the Republicans had eight years to deal with these mobsters. They couldn't stop the NK from building nuclear weapons. They couldn't stop NK attacks. The Bush Republicans couldn't do anything. And now you blame Obama? Teabaggers are just like NK with all their lies and revisionist history. Clearly they are more concerned about their own wallets and their country club buddies than they are about the American people.
And Bill Clinton and the Democrats had eight years before that to deal with them, and so on and so forth trading back and forth between the two parties. What does it really mean, nothing, but if it makes you feel better to blame the other side, go for it.
Lol, and, before Clinton there was Nixon, a Republican, who by the way froze wages and salaries to create a more "Even playing field" for the poor. Before him there was Kennedy who sent regular troops to South Vietnam, and then there was Eisenhower who decided to pick up where the French left off in Southeast Asia. Lol, and there was FDR who failed to see the threat from Japan and we got Pearl Harbor. It's always some other Presidents fault, and in ten years all the trouble that we'll probably have will have been because of Obama. The carousel goes round and round, but, one thing is always paramount; The security of America and no matter what Party is in power that will always be addressed first. Proof? Democrats and Republicans have both taken us to war. FDR and the Democrats could easily have told Japan, "Ok, hey, if attacking Pearl Harbor and controlling the Pacific means that much to you, well, take it." Eisenhower and the Republicans could have easily told Ho Chi Minh; "Hey, you beat the French, so, if your Communist ideology means that much to you, cool, take South Vietnam." Today we face the PRC and the question of funding national defense, so, why not have both the Democrats and Republicans say; "Ok, if controlling Asia means so much to you that you'll threaten America, hey, take Asia." Same with North Korea; "If invading and conquering South Korea means so much to you that you'll risk total war, well, invade and get it over with." Maybe, in the future there will be a alliance of South American nations and we'll get the ultimatum; "Return the Mexican territory that you took after the Mexican war, or, there will be total war between us." And then we'll be hearing about the high cost of national defense and reply; "Hey, come and get it, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and parts of Colorado are not worth defending, besides, we don't want to pay more for national defense."
Pretty interesting that when N.Korea was threatening S.Korea with military action and Dick Cheney said the US can fight several wars at once, he was called a war mongerer. If we would have attacked, Bush would have been castigated. This is not a pretty situation for anyone and criticizing previous administrations doesn't accomplish a thing. You can blame Bush, Clinton or anyone else, but lets deal with the situation as it is today.
"And Bill Clinton and the Democrats had eight years before that to deal with them, and so on and so forth trading back and forth between the two parties."
If you want to be that way... George Bush the 1st had four years... Reagan and 8 years why didn't they deal with them? How about Nixon? Why didn't he get them.
Who are you talking to?! If you are trying to reply to someone else's comment, you should press the "REPLY" button. It does this handy little thing and attaches itself to the appropriate comment so that bitching does not go undirected.
Still blaming Bush?? Really?? George Bush is not the President anymore. Barack Obama is our President now. We are talking about current issues.
Time to get with reality and figure that out. President Obama has been in office for over 3 years. Why would you still be blaming Bush. BTW, Bush got Congressional approval on everything he did. He also relinquished the free world from one of history's most genocidal, fascist, murderous maniacs and President Obama is on record for supporting him. He also condemned his actions when it was politically beneficial to him for posturing purposes. I would say that you check your facts before showing disdain for one of our countries presidents. Wars are never popular. Lives are lost. The free world is a better place without Suddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden.
These issues have gone on when both parties have been in control. It's nothing specific to either side. And Iran, we can track back to the time of the Iranian hostage crisis, the Sha, etc... Point is, we can go Carter to Reagan, to HW Bush, to Clinton, to W Bush, to Obama, and in all those decades their government is no less a problem now, then it was in 1979....
Also, but and latter on, I wouldn't go acting like that Congressional approval is a big difference (vs going the War Powers Act for a shorter operation), when after it had all been said and done Colin Powell has stated that if he was in the know, of what he had become aware of latter, he never would have gone to the UN and pleaded the case. Sounds like Powell felt used by the administration.... Politics is a dirty, dirty, business. I for one see no reason to go cheer leading this way, or that, when it's all said and done, tbh....
Patrick, please note that I did not blame any one president in particular. I merely stated that both sides have ignored this problem since President Eisenhower. There have been 6 Republican Presidents including Ike, and 5 Democrat Presidents. Both sides have had ample time to deal with them, but chose not to. Blaming one party over the other is a waist of time. Both are guilty.
That's right Just, both are guilty but what other group is guilty? After seeing the carnage of the Korean War a lot of Americans became hesitant about any more involvement, anywhere. One thing remains true though; It's good to be number one and being number one means maintaining a image of power in the world backed up by real power. That means that every now and then we have to shoulder weapons and kick some ass, just to maintain our credibility. If we don't, well, then we become another paper tiger without teeth or claws. Meaning that even if we do have teeth or claws we don't have the will to use them. Lol, there was some goofy TV show once that a character; "The Fonz." He had a bad rep, and he claimed that as long as you were thought to be bad you were pretty much left alone. Thing is, to be thought bad we have to start off being bad. Ok, sounds like grade school, but, it's true on the world stage.
"Songun is his son's own ruling doctrine that translates to "military first.""
Make that translation "slavery first" or "insanity first".
The US will be just wasting time trying to talk to these FOOLs, that's like talking to the azz end of a Donkey, nothing goes in that end .......
*LIN*Sanity at that..... Maybe it's a good thing I don't work for ESPN, that would surely be a 'chink in the armor' I would think..... I dunno, that is pretty damned funny....
I'm Loving that time stamp up Above, hahahahaha...... I just Tebow'ed it in type.
kim jong un, baby kim please go play in your sand box and leave the big stuff for adults that can foster peace for a tired humanity.
So, the 'North's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea' warns of total war and the complete collapse of ties with South Korea???
Sounds to me they're talking out their a$$.
Ah" North Korea China's Mexico.
If the next centennial does not find us a great nation ... it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces."
James Garfield, the twentieth president of the United States, 1877
I believe they are, actually.
We can't just say to the Chinese, "too bad, we're not paying you back." China will dump the investments. That would have a serious impact on the value of our currency, possibly even rendering it worthless (which of course wipes out our economy). The investors that own our debt have us by the balls, like it or not.
I don't believe that's possible when we have $15T in outstanding debt and red ink as far as the eye can see. We are beholden to our debt-holders and not really free to make the changes necessary to bring manufacturing back.
Stephen -
Who says political assassination ever went away?
And when are the North Koreans NOT threatening war? Freud would have had a field day with the N. Korean leaders!
RealityCheck, I agree. This young buffoon is not trust worthy, and probably believes in the fairy tales of how powerful they are (not so) told to him by his military. The fact of the matter is China dislikes these third world wackado's as much as we do. If they would go forward with a war they would lose a quarter of their population to famine immediatly and another half to obliteration, leaving them with nothing but massive immigration south to China, something China wants no part of.
kg - I think you are wrong. IF China was to FIGHT US troops, that debt would disappear, just like NKorea would....
I also do not think the North, would start an all out war....
Also, it may take some years, but America has the resources, PEOPLE and knowhow, to be what we once were. The manufacturing capital of the world.
it's time for them to pass out more fish...plain bob 2012...
Kg, glw
You do know that China only holds 8% of the debt, right?
obama put the rest on his tab...
YAWN. Isnt this the same thing N.Korea does several times a year, every time S.Korea, US, whoever, performs exercises in their neighborhood?
when are we going to stop paying tribute to North Korea to buy them off; last year alone right at 1 billion dollars, plus hundreds of thousand tons of food; cut the crazy little country off; if they want to go to war, so be it, get it over with, and get rid of the nut jobs running that dump.
JCB
If your senario plays out I'll bet you one thing; we'll get a lesson on how to secure a border, the Chinese will not mess around!
North Korea talks big, but carries a small stick.
Just more Kim-shi from the Noth . Fat boy's not going to do dink.
the fat boy sings for supper...
No more Soju for you Kim Jong Un! You get mean when you drink!
Seems like nowadays, all some body has to do is look at North Korea cross eyed and they scream "Total War"! What a joke.
JS in SD,
I PROVED YOU WRONG SO MANY TIMES BEFORE.
So how about getting your uninformed Political cronism and sniff a Demoncrap arse.
add to post#2.3 and 2.5.

Only when South Korea begins to show that they are not afraid will the North finally leave them alone... typical 2nd grade bullying prevention psychology.
js in.... hahahaha, nuff said.
ORB, China did say that. Two years ago, too.
David
You are actually using you own blogs as references for your statements?
Anyway, I actually agree with JS on this one. You've stretched the truth in some of your proclamations.
David - Using your own blog to support your incorrect statements is laughable. You have never posted anything from any reputable source to prove anything I have said as being wrong. Please grow up or just go away.
I was shocked to "learn" US has 1950's technology compared to Iran's 21st century tech.
900K? This probably a fraction of what Bush sent.
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=bush%20north%20korea%20policy%20payment&source=web&cd=7&sqi=2&ved=0CEsQFjAG&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.au.af.mil%2Fau%2Fawc%2Fawcgate%2Fcrs%2Frl31785.pdf&ei=RV5CT9hUyLrQAcj61OUJ&usg=AFQjCNHZhAPrM7w1hzDhBbl8NFte3wXWcgt.
North Korea is like a spoiled child ruled by one.
Nice try at your misinformation there.
It is the people of NK who for decasdes have allowed their leaders to do what they want. If they want change it is incumbent on them to do so.
Great game of RISK...let everyone pick sides and then roll the dice...when you want 1%...play the lottery
I don't get it big mac-4590839, Why is it that the North side of town, is always at WAR with the South side of town? It all just seems so, well, Un-Civil to me.
the east and the west ...are little babys ...to skeerd to go north or south...
Oooo baby Un is gonna be mad.
Un's gonna be really mad if someone takes his cheesy poofs away.
korea the big cry baby...of countries...so out of touch...so far behind...so hungry...so overpopulated...so lonely...
And, Plain Bob, so very very dangerous with a million man army dedicated to it's ideology and ready to move South at any time.
Time to boost the world's economy with a war.
Dave , Thank You
I will pass your thanks to my Teams, as they have kept me alive this long (since the 1980s) and my only role is leading them, being responsible and accountable for them as their OIC (Officer In Charge).
Dave, thank you for serving. But please don't harbor so much anger at citizens who don't serve. Not all of us are cut out to be in the military. I seriously doubt 92% of us refuse to serve as you put it.
Thanks for your service Dave.
David's right. We have a military at war, but not a nation at war, and this is a dangerous combination.
do we need a nation at war...to match our military...i'll shall ponder...should i wear a tux... with tennis shoes...or cowboy boots....i'm leaning towards sandals...
Naaa, I'll go with my first thought's...
It won't be as shocking and awe inspiring when the Chinese decide to get involved...especially when you consider how much of America's debt they own.
This is all foretold........and we already know how it ends!
China would eat America for dinner. Russia would eat what was left of it for dessert.
Someone said it best years ago.
N. Korea isn't going to war with anyone and that is not the threat that the world should be concerned about.
N. Korea selling nuclear weapons to anyone with the funds is what should concern the world.
I find it funny the Iranian advocates on the stories about Iran and that whole nuclear mess cite the reason Iran needs nukes is to deter the U.S. invasion.
From this article;
That North Korea is almost as bad as Israel
Kevin you put the ass in @!$hole
Enough already. Stop your posturing, Lil Kim. Do what your dead ass daddy did not do. Bring your game or shut up. Posturing like this means nothing. prepare to visit the stone age if you do...no wiat, you are already there.
Somehow it does not seem right to fight a country where everyone looks like Speed Racer.
Do em. South K.
North Korea saying they want "Total War", I guess meaning nukes, is like saying "We want to commit suicide."
Rewind to the Stone Age and press "Stop" ....
Sigh, did they open their mouths again?
N.Korea better realize that any military action taken against S.Korea will result in America and many other NATO countries retaliating. If it comes to that I hope they blow the communist scum off the map! There another Iran trying to develope nukes and threaten the rest of the world.
North Korea already has Nuclear Weapons as well as ICBMs.
Another Idiot running yet another country of fanatics. Where so they get these fools?
Sounds like the U.S. at the moment! LOL!
Yet Obammie wants to spend another 9 TRILLION over another possible 4 years.....and his "sheeple" are OK with that.....as long as they get some! LMAO!
9 Trillion? There is a book out there that will help you "Math for 5th graders."
And of course, gas will go up again.
We should pull every soldier we have out of Soth Korea and let'em have at it. Pull out of Japan as well. Build forts along the Rio Grande. Put'em there. All we need is Wallstreet's permission.
Sure abandon our US Allies and see if anyone wants to be a US Ally ever again.
The Federal Government can pull them into any conflict at any time for any reason as evidenced by Iraq & Afghanistan...........
Yes, but until that happens they are paid by the state. Once they are activated they are treated the same as active duty.
WTF?
JESUS is coming soon. He will fix everything when He arrives. Have no fear, CHRIST is near!
Almost makes me wish for the end of the world just to hear the bible thumpers spin on why nobody appeared to save them.
I'm scared, too. We are being swept along in a world that is out of control! But what can the average person do about it? NOTHING.
I wonder if the evil North Koreans are bright enough to realize that any "total war" will be the equivalent of committing suicide...
they kinda sounds like the republican teaparty huh!
albo.....different from tea party.....you need to stop your ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NBC, CNN "brainwashing" sessions...LMAO! They are wasting any intelligence left from rational thought you may have had.
Really Gary? How are they different?
But when they're all drinking the Kim family cool aid, and worshiping the Kims in some cult of personality thing... That drinking the cyanide lased cool aid, would be committing suicide, didn't seem to matter to the fanatics in Jonestown, very much....
NK LET IT GO.......NO ONE IS ON YOUR SIDE!!!!!!
I'm not scared......they're the ones who should be scared.
How is it possible to brainwash 24 million people?
Ask the Germans prior to WW 2.
Dangrs, Brainwashing 24 million captive citizens is as easy as brainwashing a few hundred million more like in the PRC. Just manage affairs until the populace is starving, they'll do anything a government wants, believe anything they are told to believe, and, lol, attack in any direction.
^ This
Ask Bush II before he invaded to conquer Iraq.
Yawn !!
They're is the Obama-minion's parroted reply again!
Hey ya'll......."It's STILL Bush's fault!!!!"
LMAO!
Northlite-
Still blaming Bush??
That's right, politics is a dirty business, but it's what rules so we have to play that game and be as dirty as the dirtiest.
