Most countries on Earth dont even have than many people!

During the 1700's the United States experienced many different types of immigration and migration from many different cultures. Mostly people from Great Britain, France, and Germany immigrated to the U.S. during this time. With the United States land being split up and owned by many different countries, the U.S. endured many land changes. For example the Louisiana territory was owned by France and much of the west was claimed to be the Native American Land. Treaties were being signed and changed constantly. Even the first Native American reservation was made during the 1700's.

Despite all this, everone entering the country was required to go through legal paperwork...in the 1700s!!! Whatever happened to this rule of Law?

Because illegals pay into our social security and medicare system (when their employers let them use stolen ss #s) none of the illegals will ever be able to collect social security but I think that is partly why the feds don't care. 2. ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONALS self-deported the State of Alabama when the law was passed (as ILLEGALS fled to the sanctuary-amnesty-promoting State of California). SO, THIS IS EVIDENCE THAT SELF-DEPORTATION WILL WORK WHERE THE LAW IS ENFORCED!

3. Then, when it became clear to them that the federal government would subvert is own laws and abuse its authority to utlize taxpayer funds to go to court protect the LAWBREAKERS over AMERICAN CITIZENS and LEGAL immigrants, ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONALS have begun moving back to the State of Alabama.

Yes--- this only proves that when the federal government (including the Obama Administration for which I voted in '08) refuses to enforce its own laws, the result is the incentivization and emboldening of MORE IMMIGRATION LAWBREAKING!

If the state government really wanted to stop this, they would fine the companies hiring illegals $12,500 for each illegal worker, that would pay for the cost of deporting them, it would probably end the practice as well.

The problem is the system in place is made to benefit large corporations; forcing smaller companies to pay lower wages to try to be competitive, because Americans want to be paid a livable wage, and illegals will accept the low paying jobs.

I really don't mind the people who came here to work, pay taxes and raise their families. I do have a huge problem with giving government assistance to illegals and I have a big problem when illegals commit crimes and are NOT deported. You apparently have a lot to say on the issue of illegal aliens, and most of it appears to be pro-illegals. Which begs the question, "WHY?" I think we all know the answer to that question.

Regardless of the US Supreme Court's ruling that use of another's taxpayer identification number (Social security number) does not always constitute identity theft, it DOES always constitute numerous other crimes. For instance, when an illegal uses someone else's SSN, they provide that SSN on a Form W-4, for tax withholding purposes, and on Form I-9. And at the bottom of each of those forms, they sign a declaration stating they have examined the foregoing document and that the information contained therein is correct, true and complete to the best of their knowledge. On the I-9 form they also declare they are legally entitled to work in the US under one of four classifications. Knowingly signing either document if it contains false and/or fraudulent information is a federal felony.

Furthermore, while the Welfare Reform Act of 1996 may on its face prohibit illegal aliens from receiving means-tested benefits, the truth of the matter is that states are prohibited from conducting their own investigations into an applicant's immigration status if that applicant provides state-issued identification papers. That Act also does not prohibit the illegal alien parents of "anchor babies" (children born in the US, illegally in most cases) from collecting means-tested benefits on behalf of their children who are considered legal citizens, largely because their parents' immigration status at the time of the child's birth is not known - and hospitals are not allowed to investigate that status - when the child's birth certificate is issued.

There is no neutral viewpoint from which any lawful citizen of the US, or any member of its government should look upon illegal immigation. The law is very clear and very concise, and if you are a law-abiding citizen, then you must look upon the issue from the viewpoint of the law. There is a lawful manner in which one who was not born a US national/citizen may seek and obtain the legal authority (permission) to live and work in the US. Unless such persons enter this country by lawful means, they lawfully cannot work in this country - it matters not how many mouths they may have to feed, how many others are counting on them for support, how badly they have been treated in their own country, why they came here, etc.

Yes, we are all upset when the "majority" (as you claim) don't pay their fair share of taxes. However, we are even more upset when our tax dollars go to support, feed, clothe, house and transport illegal aliens back to their countries of origin. We are even more upset when our government refuses to fulfill its duties and obligations to citizens of the US to protect the sanctity of US citizenship.

And that, dear Sarah, is what you have failed to recognize or acknowledge. For US citizens, the value of citizenship has been brought down to virtually nil. The once-special meanings, benefits, allowances, merits, and positions - here and abroad - of US citizenship have been decimated by the influx of illegals here. Those of us who were legally born here, or who have legally become naturalized citizens of the US, have seen our health care, educational, and judicial systems reduced to meaningless entities. We have seen our economy undermined and subverted by the black market of illegal aliens and the illegal goods & services they provide.

And if you think for a single minute that the little bit of "unclaimed" SS funds collected each year from illegal aliens using other peoples' SSN covers even a minute fraction of the true costs of illegal aliens in the US, you couldn't be further from the truth. Ask the state of California, and any of the other states brought to the brink of insolvency by the real costs of illegal aliens.

In closing, Sarah, don't dare cheapen the value of my citizenship with your tolerance for unlawful actions and criminals. Don't dare suggest that illegal aliens deserve the same rights and benefits I am granted as a legal citizen of this country. Like it or not folks Obama does not care what U.S. citizens want or care about, however if you are in this country illegally and living off of the government (local, state or federal government) then he will spare no amount of the tax payer's money to defend you! As far as I am concerned not asking a person of Hispanic decent for their state issued driver license (which in most states verifies citizenship by the way) is like not asking a person you find in a closed store who they are and if they have legal right to be there! Ask yourself this one question: Why is it considered OK to stop a non minority person for a traffic offense and ask for their driver license, yet it is racial profiling if you do it to a minority? Much like many other things being done by Obama, it simply lacks common sense and defies all logic! According to the CBS, DOL, and IRS, undocumented workers cost us on average (now this is all totals costs nationwide) $16 billion, and save us on average (again nationwide) $50 billion. That's an all together savings of $34 billion.

Sarah I call BS on your numbers. The true cost is unavailable to us, because the govt wants it that way. When some state like Alabama tries to figure out the actual numbers, Obama directs his "Justice dept" to sue them.

Consider Utah. A few state workers gathered thousands of names and adresses of Illegals who were recieving benefits ILLEGALLY. They forwarded this list to the attorney general, the governor, and some reps and senators.

What happened?

The state workers were fired. The problem with the Illegals was never adressed.

They are mostly poor and uneduacated. Any time spent bringing them up to speed is time NOT spent improving the quality of the education of OUR children. Any time spent making everything multi lingual is time and money spent NOT helping our own children.

Look at it another way. Each school spends x amount per student. Say 1/3 of the children were Illegal. That would mean we could increase educational funding for each student BY 33%! WITHOUT SPENDING ONE CENT MORE THAN WE ARE ALREADY SPENDING!

Trying to find and deport these people isn't very practical; there are just too many of them. But take away their employment or any govt benefits they get and they'll leave themselves, or do what's necessary to make themselves legal. It's the employers the authorities should be going after and govt agencies should require proof of legal residency before handing out anything.

THAT is how you solve the illegal problem. It's also the cheapest and most humane way. No illegals get harrassed or arrested, but they can't find work or get any handouts so they go home.

I agree the employers are simply using taxpayers to subsidize their "illegal" work force. If that employer were to be fined illegals would be let go real fast.

I would disagree about they couldn't find them, the IRS knows were they are, because the receive two or more W2 forms with the same Social Security Number but from different addresses.

I agree with the comment above. If you take the jobs away, they will go home. The farmers, just like any other business should get to exploit illegals for their own profit. Just like any other business out there, they have to pay the cost of doing business or get out of the market. I know the fear of the cost of food is always used as an excuse but the cost is actually driven by the speculators beyond the farm and prior to your table. Its already going up. I think it has more to do with cost of the fertilizer and cost of the fuel than the cost of labor in comparison.

To get more Ice officers, more immigration lawyers, judges, courts, etc would cost a ton and inflate Federal Payroll and deficit even further. Few politicians would favor increasing Federal employment now, we are trying to lower government employment. What the present administration is doing is to go after criminal illegal aliens first, because they have no basis for and therefore no opportunity to appeal deportation, thus the process is streamlined when deporting convicted criminals. We don't have enough people in the system to deport all illegals, what they are doing now is deporting those who cannot delay the process and therefore getting more deported without expanding staff, courthouses, etc. Deportations are way up in the last three years because of this tactic. Meanwhile we need to stop new illegals from getting in and we need to stop the idiocy of the "anchor baby", this was never what the Constitution intended when that amendment was added, it was meant to protect children of slaves who had been brought here against their will, not as a way for illegal aliens to gain status in our country, but it may take legislation and a Supreme Court Decision to get that fixed.

Stephen, you raise a good point, that many here seem to overlook. Most of these "deport 'em all now" types fail to take into consideration that many people come here legally, and because of the complicated system we have, their status can be become unclear. They have not been told they have to leave, nor have they been told they can stay.

This is NOT a simple black and white issue, as most would like to believe.

I would do absolutely anything, up to and including crime (if necessary) to feed my family. Thankfully, it has never come to that for me. I feel great sympathy for people coming here illegally, with the intent to find honest work, to escape the travesties of the third world nations they come from.

However, my sympathy does not change the law. What this country desperately needs is a simple effective and fair immigration policy, which we do not currently have.

We also need to crack down HARD on people who hire illegals. Cracking down on the illegals themselves is futile, pointless, and wasteful.

The problem is, laws like Arizona, and Alabama, which do NOT mirror federal laws as some claim, open the door to violations of the rights of people who are here legally.

The answer, at least in the short-term is a high profile, high penalty campaign against the people who hire illegals. Just look at this clip from the article:

It would also prove a point- there is no problem with LEGAL immigrants being here; it's the ones who sneak in under the radar that are the problem.

Many people don't realize that many of the 12 million illegals didn't sneak in , but came in on temporary Visas and when they expired they just stayed , just like the 9/11 hijackers did and INS now ICE told no one and no one ever lost their job or was prosecuted for doing so.

They don't have to drive while licensed or insured in certain counties, like Los Angeles, cops wont bother giving them tickets or taking their car away. We have 1/3 or all welfare cases, we have the majority of illegals, we have an over 50% high school dropout rate, we are 48th in nation in education. We have more people TAKING a check from the government than paying taxes. We have out of control retirements, out of control politicians voted in by HIGH voter fraud. We have more taxpayers LEAVING the state than coming. We are Greece....

One of the basic controlling factors of apartheid, was that the workers were from other countries. Pass papers control the number of workers in the nation. Try almost all of the roofers unions in West Virginia for starters Rob. And then go to Virginia and around Washington D.C. and Maryland. Wal-Mart had to halt construction temporarily in our area because none of its roofers had green cards. And it is a myth that they work for lower wages, and yes, they do often file for income tax returns on fraudulent, stolen social security numbers. It happened to a friend of mine who, incidently, never received all of his refund because of it. And the culprit was never persued, even though they had the address from the abandoned house it was filed from. If people want the truth about why they come here, it is because the American dollar is worth much more in Mexico, and they can work less here for more money and it is tax free for them. Welfare boards should have a list of available jobs and match them up with welfare recipients and assign their rumps to the available jobs, as skillfully as possible. Those who prove to be lazy, and wish only to be sperm-donors, should be sent to the camps suggested above to farm and grow their food. The Bible has a requirement in II Thessalonians 3: 10 "that if any would not work, neither should he eat." Don't force the lazy ones to work! Your sentimentality is just that. The problem with immigration today as opposed to 50-100-200 years ago is that there is no more free and open land. Jobs, property rights, and capital is pretty much defined.

If illgals today truly think they can move up the ladder do easily as in history they have another reality waiting them and it's not so promising. It's just the course of history and development talking here.

Not just welfare, but what about those in our jails and prisons? They cost a fortune to keep, why don't we make them PAY for their incarceration by picking the harvest?

I totally agree with you Theword! Nobody was yelling about the illegals when the economy was booming. People have seen "illegals" in the agriculture, construction, lawncare and housekeeping/maid service jobs for as long as I can remember. I don't remember all this shouting and carrying on going on until the economy tanked! It wasn't the "Mexicans" who got us in this mess, it was the rich politicians who sent our jobs overseas. Then when the only jobs left were the above mentioned, that's when the average American started yelling "Kill the Mexicans, it is all their fault".

So many people want to talk about coming here "legally", do any of you know what it takes to get here legally? Way more money than most "Mexicans" or "South Americans" can earn and save in a lifetime in their own country! Just like the woman who was talking about her friends husband paying $35000 to become legal, the average wage earned in Mexico is $7000. The average in the U.S. 27000. Is it any wonder that they want to come to the U.S? if it costs over $35000 to become legal, that would mean the average working Mexican would have to save every penny they earned for 5 years to "pay" their way into the U.S. legally. That is only if they can bribe the local officials into putting their name on the list to apply.

I guess we are all just VERY lucky that the Mexicans didn't just start a war and take land that belonged to us; Oh wait, that is what Europeans did to them. I guess they could have just invaded our country rounded all of us up and shipped us to "reservations" given us diseased blankets and watched us die in the cold; oh wait that was the pesky Europeans again with the "native Americans".
