'We see neighborhoods shelled indiscriminately, hospitals used as torture centers, children as young as 10 years old chained and abused,' the Secretary-General says
UN's Ban Ki-moon accuses Syrian regime of potential crimes against humanity

The U.N. is worthless, just as Woodrow Wilson's League of Nations was. A complete paper tiger and bottomless money pit for the USA.
The UN "suspects" crimes against humanity............I guess Hell fire and brimstone will reign down on Syria now...........probably not after all it's the UN.
'Possible' crimes? Yeah, possible because there's video of crimes that happened...little slow on the draw there.
The UN, despite hyperbole, is not useless at all. It is useless at waging war. And YOU WANT IT TO BE THAT WAY. Unless for some reason you have decided you'd like a whole bunch of other nations to decide for you whether you want to be at war or not.
Other functions of the UN are fine. It does what it was designed for, and it wasn't designed for green stamping your favorite war.
Possible crimes against Humanity so what?
If we remove this regime the next will be just as bad so where's the point, it's a waste of our time and our money.
"Syrian regime of potential crimes against humanity"
You thinK ?
How much moon walking can the UN possibly do? Until Assad flies away maybe? Michael would be proud.
Potential crimes against humanity? What a bunch of jerks. The United Nations is really a worthless organization. No One pays attention to them. They have no power to do anything, so why not just turn the lights off and GO HOME.
The UN has outlived it's purpose.
Throw the UN out of New York City; it belongs in the Extremist Muslim Countries. Gadhafi, (deceased) Ahdinemajad, other Dictators are all welcome guests to speak against our country in our country--
Outdated; some other Forum of getting countries together for severe World issues is sorely needed, who are more balanced on opinions and then action in countries of Inhumanity, Mass Slaughters, and Natural Disaster help..
An Arab dictator shooting and killing his citizens in an indiscriminate manner? An oppresive religious minority grinding away at the religious majority? Sounds familiar...oh yeah, Saddam Hussain anyone? But we didn't need to go into that country so no point in interfering in Syria. Hypocrites, all of you.
Words of Wisdom coming from the UN's Secretary General Ban ki---
"Too Little, Too late".
The Arab Countries together, should have taken care of Syria. The UAE UN Secretary General's words mean nothing.
Arabs killing Arabs---it seems to have been a "Sport" from Biblical times, and up to today.
Futile attempts of a coverup; not caring about humanity.---
What would you have the Arab countries do?
You have to realize that while many of the Arab countries have vast oil wealth and/or reasonably significant military's from the standpoint of numerical head counts; they're all worthless when it comes to actual combat and none of them are capable of fielding any kind of long term presence outside their home countries based on a lack of logistics and a useful command structures. They're good for nothing but suppressing civilian uprisings and fighting other military powers of the same capabilities.
If you send them into Syria to quell the violence they're likely to kill more civilians than the Syrians already have. Nothing is going to happen in Syria unless the US spearheads and does all of the heavy lifting for another regime operation like it did with Libya b/c the rest of the security council members either aren't capable of doing anything from a military standpoint or they're unwilling (read: Russia and China) b/c of various financial and social reasons.
Sono:
How about Iran's Military?----said to be the best by Ahdinemajad/other military experts. Do they care--Iran is behind much of the unrest and chaos, uprisings in the Middle East. They want Power over all countries in this region..
Iran is an Evil Empire--the rest of the Arab Countries do not care what happens to their brothers and sisters. Torture, Honor Killings, Massacres, suicide bombings, etc. What are the UAE Countries doing to stop the Murder?
Assad is a reinvented Hitler. The Arabs are more worried about getting their Oil sold, making zillions of dollars from other World Countries, than worrying about their own mankind living there.
Basically, resolving slaughter there is hopeless. It must be h------to be a regular citizen in the ME/N. Africa. That is their "Lot" in life, and always has been.
The US cannot get involved.
We call that a paper tiger. They're just as useless as all the other middle eastern armies once their ballistic capabilities are removed. The biggest problem they face is the same one that Iraq had, the current Iranian regime is run by a dictator who relies on fear to maintain control. In that situation, the military can't make informed decisions on its own b/c the orders have to come from the dictator or at least very high level individuals who're close to the top. When they lose comms, which will happen from the onset, you have an entire military body that can't function on its own and will just stand there getting picked off one by one.
I hope the US doesn't get involved, just Like I did with Libya, but I don't think our civilian leaders and the industries they serve have the same interests.
Sono:
Iran could be a "Paper Tiger"; but who's to say what they are really like until tested. Iran relies heavily on their Terrorist Organization stolen from Lebanon, the Hezbollah---The US claims Iran's Military is very well-trained for combat.
The US/nor Arab Countries should never underestimate the Leadership of Iran; they are all crazy--
The Arab Countries and all the Oil, live like kings while the rest of the population lives in poverty--and fears severe punishment. We should never supply the ME with any kind of Humanitarian Aid, nor money. They are on their own. The Warlords, Dictator Leaders, Tribal Heads are still alive and well
Are you saying, "There is Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself"; in this case, with Nuclear Weapons, no Country can trust any other country with Nuclear Weapons--this is a different Era; much like the Cold War with Russia, China in the past.
The US was struck once on 9/11---America must be vigilant here--the UAE can take care of themselves.
Why would a leader offer concessions to the very terrorists he himself said he is killing unless of course those terrorists are actually innocent civilians and he is a mass murderer.
China also doesn't like the idea of not being allowed to sell weapons to the Syrian regime or supporting anything that would clearly denigrate they're own actions in Tibet and mainland China.
Once again the UN proving to be a useless institution. China and Russia don't belong on the Security Council-of course they oppose intervention in Syria, they do the same thing to their own people. How long will they be able to rig their own elections before their populous gets sick of it. Sticking up for Syrians can undermined their own authority in the future. Nothing will be done with those commies on the council. Better dead than red!
UN's Ban Ki-moon accuses Syrian regime of potential crimes against humanity, but turns a blind eye on Israeli crimes ???
It's that old corruption of power thing.
Lets get this in perspective...Stalin killed 20,000,000 of his own people and Mao killed 60,000,000 Chinese during his reign....and we did nothing. We won't even consider the atrocities that have taken place in Africa. Yet you think we should take action because a few thousand Syrian revolutionaries are killed.
Yikes! You are the one who scares me.
Since the rebels refuse talks with the government, then the only answer will be force. What the Syrian government needs to do is crush the rebellion soon. Then hold the referendum, and start the reforms. There is no reason for the Shia, moderate secular Sunni, and large Christian groups in Syria,to put their very existence in danger by allowing a radical Al Queda and Wahhabi supported Sunni rebels take power. They've all seen, the "democracy" brought to Libya, and reject it.
The ruler will do whatever is takes suppress a rebellion. The Assad regime uses techniques similar to the land, sea and ariel bombardments used by the israelis in the past to deal with insurrections in their domain.
United States' national guardsman massacred student protesters against the Viet Nam War at Kent State University, and armored vehicles were used against the Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas in an federal action stemming from an infraction of a federal firearm law.
Charges of "crimes against humanity" selectively applied are more matters of political theater than of moral principle.
Some sort of orderly transition is needed. The ideal solution would be for Assad to ask for the US to police a cease fire, and have the UN organize a Presidential election to be held in six months. They could vote for a parliament at the same time. That would permit the formation of a new government.
The Economist says that some Syrian religious minorities are very worried that a new fundamentalist Islamic regime could be worse for them than the current regime. Some caution and prepartion is in order. The Arab League should pay for any UN action and there should not be any US soldiers involved.
I wonder what would happen if the people of our USA rose up and tried to promote an honest government "For the People By the People". Do you think there would be resistance by the government ??? Or do you think the White-house would step aside and say" We are only interested in whats good for our citizen taxpayers". What do you think ???
The words 'potential' and 'demanded' mean what to the UN? What authority do they really think they have... almost a year after the murders started, now they think it is time to supposedly issue false threats to the Syrian government... and what have they done to try to squelsh the world's terrorism... has the UN even tried?
The UN was useful right after WWII, but what good have you done since? Totally useless... guaranteed, if you close down the UN, New York's crime would decrease with the diplomatic immunity they and their families have done...
Jeez.....The UN must seen an optometrist and got new glasses since the Israelis invaded Gaza last time, what a worthless organization!
I totaly Agreed,
Reality check. Israel country that has for decades violated international and committed systematic crimes against humanity on the Palestinian people; that has invaded and occupied foreign territories; that runs clandestine murder and terror operations in foreign states; and that, to boot, possesses up to 300 nuclear weapons in contravention of international law. This rogue, criminal state along with its patron in Washington is maligning another state over its legitimate pursuit of civilian nuclear energy and trying to precipitate a war that could most likely escalate into a global nuclear conflagration – all based on lies. Talk about lunatics
running the asylum.
This continuum of the
military agenda testifies to the fact that the two governing parties in the US,
Democrat and Republican, are but two sides of a centrally planned
military-industrial complex that is impregnable to the opinions, desires and interests
of the American electorate. George Bush Junior, and Tony Blair who
has recently been condemned by the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal for “Crimes
against the Peace”.
.
The first charge is Crimes Against Peace filed against George W Bush (former President
of the U.S.) and Anthony L Blair (former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom) wherein they are charged as follows:
The Accused persons had committed Crimes against Peace, in that the Accused persons planned, prepared and invaded the sovereign state of Iraq on 19 March 2003 in violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.
The second charge is against eight citizens of the United States and they are namely George W Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzales, David Addington, William Haynes, Jay Bybee and John Yoo. They have been charged with the Crime of Torture and War Crimes:
Our objective is to dispel the tide of media lies and
government propaganda, which presents the events in Syria as a "peaceful
protest movement".
The "protests" did not emanate from internal
political cleavages as described by the mainstream media. From the very outset,
they were the result of a covert US-NATO intelligence operation geared
towards triggering social chaos, with a view to eventually discrediting the
Syrian government of Bashar Al Assad and destabilizing Syria as a Nation
State.
Since the middle of March 2011, Islamist armed groups
--covertly supported by Western and Israeli intelligence-- have conducted
terrorist attacks directed against government buildings including acts of
arson. Amply documented, trained gunmen and snipers including mercenaries have
targeted the police, armed forces as well as innocent civilians. There is ample
evidence, as outlined in the Arab League Observer Mission report, that these
armed groups of mercenaries are responsible for killing civilians.
Iit is important to underscore the fact that these terrorist
acts --including the indiscriminate killing of men and women and children-- are
part of a US-NATO-Israeli initiative, which consists is supporting,
training and financing "an armed entity" operating inside
Syria.
The evidence confirms that foreign intelligence
operatives, according to reports, have integrated rebel
ranks:
"As the unrest and killings escalate in the troubled
Arab state, agents from MI6 and the CIA are already in Syria assessing the
situation, a security official has revealed. Special forces are also
talking to Syrian dissident soldiers. They want to know about weapons and
communications kit rebel forces will need if the Government decides to help.
“MI6 and the CIA are in Syria to infiltrate and get at the truth,” said the well-placed source. “We have SAS and SBS not far away who want to know what is happening and are finding out what kit dissident soldiers need." " Syria will be
bloodiest yet, Daily Star).
The Free Syrian Army (FSA) is a creation of the US and NATO.
The objective of this armed insurrection is to trigger the response of the
police and armed forces, including the deployment of tanks and armored vehicles
with a view to eventually justifying a military intervention, under NATO's "responsibility to protect" mandate. A NATO-led intervention is on the drawing board. It was drafted prior to the onset of the protest movement in March 2011. According to military and intelligence sources, NATO, Turkey and Saudi Arabia have been discussing "the form this intervention would take".
