The simple answer to that question would be *MONEY* . . . I say no more tax exempt status for religious organizations, PERIOD! . . . make churches reveal their financial holdings and tax them the same as everybody else -- It's incredible the amount of money and valuables churches *hide* from the world, that could be taxed . . . and most people would be very, very surprised to learn what the catholic church and other churches invest in . . . god is not a cheap date!
Religion will be the downfall of man. If we focused all this energy on how we could make the human race better either thru proven medical space earth sciences etc we would live in a better world. A lot of people are so focused on trying to make sure we are doing the right thing to prove ourselves to something that does not exist. Before any of you god fearing hypocrites all gang up on me just ask yourself this question. How did you learn about the god or gods you believe in? Religion is taught to us by our fellow man and where you were born has a big impact on what religion you will be taught/brain washed as a kid and practice as an adult.

the real answer is that the church is much older than this country. the politicans that are currently in office do 2 things: go to church and count on church goers to vote for them.

What I find unbelievable is how the vatican says that bishops are solely responsible for their priests yet the diocese have to send money to the vatican. Exactly how do franchises work and who and where are the responsibilities. WOW. 200 catholic priests in California alone are pedophiles. How many catholic priests total are there in California in order to get a percentage of this sickness within this population. Our christian nation practices hypocrisy. More like weekend Christians. After meeting at church on Sundays we go out and kill on Mondays through Saturdays (at least we send or sons and daughters). Remember the ten commandments. Well how can we HONESTLY say we are Christians and still kill other human beings, lie, cheat, etc. Our 'esteemed' ex-dubya says he is a christian. That is exactly why I stopped going to church, they are a bunch of hypocrites! If there is a heaven, I'm pretty sure I will be there before MOST of them! LOL! Where is the criminal justice system? Why haven’t they arrested the offending priests and those that would aid and abet them by helping them get away with it? If you want to see reform, have law enforcement do their jobs.
It just amazes me that parents still trust priests with their children. How is denial working out for you? If the Pope really wanted to end this abuse he would encourage his flock to report all forms of abuse to the police ASAP so the offenders can be dealt with swiftly.
A church and its leaders are not only defined by their actions, but also by their inaction. The picture I see is an organization that it more concerned about its reputation than the welfare of innocent children. We recently saw something similar with the Boy Scouts of America.

There are a lot of millstones waiting, and I wouldn't want to be in the sea they'll be swimming. Not much sympathy for the Devil, especially those wearing priestly garments. People have a high regard for the public trust. When soldiers, police officers, and others of high authority and esteem break that trust, there naturally will be Hell to pay (to pardon the pun).
In a sense, the Vatican IS paying a price...the Roman Catholic Church is waning, as people are losing faith in those that preach it, but fail to practice it. By making Benedict Pope, the Church has all but assured its demise, taking the broad and wide path instead of the straight and true one. Karma is unforgiving, and the Vatican had many chances, and the patience of the faithful is running out.
The Catholic Church is being purified of those who call themselves Catholic, but are only so in name. Those who remain will be vigorous, loyal and fiercely devout. And since the Catholic Church is thriving in Africa and is the largest charitable organization on earth, don't count it out. Remember, it has existed for 2000 years. Do you think that this is the only time of trial the institution and its members have endured?

We met Mr. Anderson too ! We were told we had no case at first ? We had an out of court "small" settlement with the diocese. The diocese accepted no guilt on behalf of their priest and denied our allegations !Ten years later , a class action was done in the same state and all the defendants were paid a huge sum in comparison ? Though we learned the same priest allegedly raped other children and the church "somewhat" admitted to gulit by compensating these victims ? We were never told about the class action but found out and showed up at the hearings , though denied entry into the suit ? One would have to ask about justice when four kids from the same family get raped twice by the same church ?

It is amazing how opulent churches are in the decorations inside the church. The priest never go hungry, YET some of those magnificent structures are right next to shanty towns where kids walk best foot and get MAYBE 2 meals a day, sickness goes untreated, and the church milks as much as they can off the poverty of people who are uneducated and believe the church will place them into heaven. Definitely not a case of leadership by example.... And in the rich areas they assault young children.... Be careful because this can be happening in your local church - not just Catholics.
Besides being a "church" the Vatican is a country with the Pope head of state. If US courts allowed this suit, we would by extension have to accept suits from citizens of other countries against the US and our President.
The pope can only take credit for things that garner good publicity. It is not his fault that his church promotes the spread of HIV: condoms are bad! Keep paying attention to all of the great anecdotes they preach and be sure to keep sending money; all while priests fondle, grope, bugger, french, and penetrate children that trust in them. How could anyone hold the church accountable for that? Their good deeds outweigh their horrific actions, so it's ok.

The law suit against the Vatican was a fishing expedition by Jeff Anderson and his firm nothing more. He was looking for information to use in another suit against the Milwaukee diocese plus any publicity he could gain. 40% of the settlement plus expenses creates a great deal of righteous indignation for a lapsed Catholic and recovering alcoholic with a private airplane, 100 foot yacht and all the other toys appropriate to a man of the people like Jeff Anderson.
Seems they are too rich and powerful to touch, instilling fear and submission in anyone attempting to do so. I just don't understand how the minions can still bow to the Catholic rituals and fork over hard-earned money.
