I've been to some pretty intense Irish wakes. This seems mild by comparison.

It's true. A lot of emotions come out at funerals and weddings. Sometimes it doesn't feel real unless a fight breaks out at least once.

I really can't say much. I was ready to beat the hell out of my friend's mother at his funeral. She was the one that got him hooked on cocaine at 13, and kicked him out when he got too out of control. Being that he had basically nothing, he ended up killing himself. It took someone basically shoving a a cut up xanax down my throat to keep from placing my hands around her neck. Her other son, who she also got hooked on drugs, just got sentenced 25-life. She never took responsibility for what she did to her children, and from what I hear from my dearly departed friend's cousins, she still is doing drugs, drinking heavily, and is still playing the victim. Even her family says that she belongs in the ground, or in prison, not her sons.

These thugs do not even know what dignity is. Nothing but a bunch of young punks. That is all. Faced smashed in during a burglary. To bad.

fenderbluesjr, I have to agree with you about Irish wakes.... The article said no one was injured... Punks wouldn't stand a chance at an Irish celebration of a passing.. Everything that everyone ever had against or for that person or his family comes out and the row is on.. Many times the women start it. Either way there are always injuries.

Perhaps it would be best to research the supposed B & E story first from other sources before making judgement that the deceased got what he deserved etc.

From another news source it states that the 20 y/o man wearing only a shirt and boxers was breaking into the apartment through a bedroom window waking up the 29 y/o man inside who yelled this to the man, woman and child who occupied the other bedroom. They escaped through a window.

During the struggle with the 'intruder' the man hit the 'intruder' in the head with a clothes iron. The 'intruder' was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The report did not state whether the intruder had a weapon.

Question, why not escape through the window of the other bedroom like the other residents did, why stay and confront the intruder in the first place?

Is a clothes iron the only weapon that the man could find to defend himself?

The story sounds ....odd... hmm

It was also reported that the police believe that the intruder was under the influence of drugs, although they did not state that they came to that conclusion based on the results of an autopsy or a drug test.

The police also stated that they believe that the apartment resident was acting in self defense...... but that they are investigating it because there was a homicide.

Why did the apartment dweller who hit the guy with a clothes iron attend the funeral in the first place? Did he know the intruder? Why go to the funeral of a person who broke into your home? Was the window panes broken or was the window pried open? If the window glass was broken, did it fall inside the room? Why was the intruder wearing only a shirt and boxers at 2.30 in the morning?

Yet again nothing was mentioned about the intruder having a weapon......

1 intruder wearing only a shirt and boxers versus 2 adult males, 1 adult female and a child..... hmmm.... odd...

Hope there is actually a thorough investigation.... not holding breath for that though.

In another article, a former soldier who had served 2 tours of duty in Iraq or was it Afghanistan or both.... anyway this former soldier was killed by the police swat team who fired 70 bullets 60 of which hit the intended target and bullets also hit the neighbor's home.

The vet was left unattended for an hour where apparently he bleed to death, as the EMTs were not allowed into the house to attend to the injured man, apparently because the swat guys were trying to secure the house......

Who knew it would take an hour to search a house? Perhaps it was as larger the shopping mall where Gifford was shot and at that site it took only 12 minutes to secure that place and provide medical help......

None of the police officers involved in the shooting were put on suspension or desk duty pending the results of the shooting....

It was originally stated by the police that the soldier had poimted his weapon and had fired at them first, yet upon inspection of the soldier's weapon the safety was found to be still on.

It seems that they are also mounting a smear campaign on the dead soldier, who had no record of illegal acts and who was honorably discharged from the Service and was apparently working more than 1 jobs saving to buy another house. Now a young woman and child is now left without a husband and father.

Arizona seem to be a strange and frightening place to live...especially if you are a minority.

BZe1, I believe you are focusing on the moot points and missing the main points. 1) The intruder who died was BREAKING INTO THEIR HOME. It doesn't matter who he was or why he was breaking in. And 2) The Swat team, from your other ramblings, in any police department does not just randomly show up for no reason at someone's house. It does not matter WHO this man was, he clearly instigated a hostile situation. There is no conspiracy, like it or not, in either story. Both of these men are still at fault, no matter the outcome. The end.

Comommy, There are those who state the intruder deserved to die and deserved no respect blah blah blah.

As the intruder is dead, his side of the incident will never be known as he cannot speak up for himself or give his side of what occurred.

If I heard someone breaking into my home I would be calling the police while looking for something to defend myself if I could not exit the property or find somewhere to hide etc. But then I live in a multistory house... so exiting through a bedroom window would not be an option unless I was on one of the lower floors. LOL

But if someone was crazy enough to climb up to the bedroom window, I would be decking or shoving the person back out the window before he could get inside.

Anyhoo, it must not have been one of these energy efficient windows because those are difficult to break through unless one has a glass cutter, it would still be awfully loud the banging on the glass to break it. Unless the window was already open trying to release the latch which is on the inside of the window would be difficult too.

All this breaking in would be loud and take a while to do, especially seeing that the apartment dweller was awake and shouting to the other occupants of the apartment. No mention is made of the intruder having a weapon or being used to theaten the apartment dweller.

Like I noted before, before a rush to judgement about whether the 'intruder' should die or not, more info is needed imo. Like did the intruder know the apartment dweller? What was the relationship between the intruder and the apartment dweller? Why was the intruder dressed only in a shirt and boxers at 2.30 in the morning? Was the window open a crack? Was the intruder really high on drugs? Why go to the funeral of someone you supposedly do not know and who broke into your house? Is there more to this issue than meets the eye? All these questions and then some would have to be answered before making a decison about the guy being an intruder. What if this was a domestic issue?

A homicide occurred, because the guy died from his head injury. The question has to be answered whether this was self defense, manslaughter or murder.

That is why one should not rush to judgement until all the evidence is collected and after a thorough examination a decision is made. It is not for the police to indicate that the person was high on drugs without a drug report, or that it is self defense when the investigation is not done or complete imo.

But then I tend to look at both side of an issue then come to a decision. I do not just listen to a 'talking head' and simply accept his/her point of view. As they say there is alway 2 sides to a story etc....

A fight broke out during a funeral at a Phoenix church after a friend of the departed punched a man who had reportedly been fighting with the deceased before he died.

One could say that the last person the deceased had a fight with was the apartment dweller who hit him in the head with a clothes iron.....

It the deceased had gotten into another fight with someone else that should have been noted in the article.

Brevity is not all that it is cracked up to be.... and can lead to misunderstanding.

Jb et al.. I do not have a problem with someone defending him or herself to the best of their ability at all.

There was an article last year where a senior citizen heard a noise in her basement and went down to investigate and was killed by the intruder. There have been reports of home invasions too. That was not the first time this sort of thing had happened either.

So yes, protect yourself at all cost. If someone is going to be injured or die I am going to make certain that it is not me. A bat, poker, broom, flashlight whatever is handy will be used to defend myself, even if the intruder has a gun, and even then if I know I am going to get killed anyway I am going to try to do some sort of damage to the person on my way out. :)

But it is hard to agree with those folks who every time you hear about a situation like this or any other they talk about killing the person and even seem to be glorifying the killing of the other person or that the person should die, as if killing is no big deal and as if killing solves the problem.

I have relatives and friends who have been in the armed services and have been to war, and others who are police officers.

A lot of folks where I live are city, county, state police officers, military and various other services.. If your house alarm goes off you get a visit from the police..LOL

Regarding the glorifying killing thing etc, I have seem quite a few postings on other message boards where the writer even state what calibre pistol they would use to blow the person/offender away etc. That was what I was referring to, and not someone in actuality protecting life and limb from harm because they must.

In those posts I often ask how many people do keep their gun and bullets in the same place, or a loaded gun where they can get it quickly -not locked up-, especially if there are children in the house.

The guy used what was at hand and hit the other guy in the head with the clothes iron.

BZe1, allow me to clarify: nowhere did I say that these people "deserved to die." I was simply stating that no matter the outcome, they instigated the events and were the ones at fault. No one else is to blame just because they ended up dying. Regardless of the reason, people that place themselves in risky situations such as these need to recognize the fact that they are placing themselves in harm's way. Those who begin the hostile actions are the ones who have the ability to stop and think things through first. Those on the receiving end of the same actions do not have that luxury.

So, I must correct and retract my former statement since the SWAT team was there for a drug raid and not in response to him personally. However, he still instigated the hostile action when he decided to pick up a gun and aim it at them. Police are trained to open fire when the intent of a person is to cause them harm and kill them, which can be clearly discerned in this instance. It should be common knowledge that if you don't want to die, you should not aim a gun at a police officer.

Comommy....Where was it stated that swat identified themselves as such? If the police was in the right why did they wait an hour before allowing EMS to attend to the vet?

Why state the vet shot first, when it was not true? When the safety was still on his weapon?

It is like the case in England that started the rioting... where the man that was shot was reported to have had a gun and had shot at a police officer which turned out to not be true, as it was later learned that the bullet came from a police issued weapon...

In case you didn't know, that implies major intent to cause harm and the police have the right to open fire at that point. Anyway I'm not sure if you continued to follow the story all the way through, but the video of the raid and shooting was released that showed the police blaring their sirens and pounding on the door announcing themselves before they kicked it in, so I don't see why you say they failed to identify themselves. Just because the wife SAID they didn't doesn't make it so. Anyway they exited the house right away after that, it was never secured, which is why he laid there for over an hour. They sent in a remote controlled robot to secure the scene because they did not know if other hostile persons were in the house. You may criticize the precautions and safety practices of policemen but it is necessary action, still no conspiracy.

Every day there is some crazy story of some idiot getting himself whacked or whacking someone for no apparent reason.

Like the guy yesterday who drove from Port Orange to Deerfield Beach, drove into an RV park and shot a total stranger in the chest and head, then forced his family into the mans RV, holding his girlfriend hostage. She escaped when he turned on his family and himself with a steak knife.

In the end, 4 dead, including the man who started it. His wife and one son survive, but barely.

He drove 200 miles and attacked a complete stranger.

Crazy....

Oh, and he was Hispanic, not that this is important.

Clearly something was amiss, because even in sunny Phoenix, it's way too cold at 3 a.m. on a January day to be outdoors in your underwear. It's hard to imagine that his intent was simply theft -- what kind of burglar, high or sober, would decide to do that in his underwear on a freezing cold night?

It's tragic that a young man was killed over this. It's even more tragic that so many of my fellow citizens think he got what he deserved.
