The poor Lama monks just want the right to worship HH the DL and to hang his image in temples and homes. And they also want him to return to Tibet to be their living god, and to resume the Lamaist theological rule and their babaric punishments that makes the Islamic Shariah punishments look like childs play.
When hundreds of Lama monks armed with machetes, petrol bombs, and rocks surround and attack police stations, what are they supposed to do? Even the peaceful OWS crowds suffered police crackdowns and violence in the USA and Europe, LOL.
The monks do seem a little wacked out. i've read some crazy stuff about them.
I think your both a little on the slow side. singa, your comment on Buddhist "barbaric" punishment is a wholly and absolutely incorrect, the most severe punishment you can receive in Buddhism is being exiled. That's not quite as bad as the Shariah punishments of being stoned to death for adultery or having your hands cut off for stealing.

There was obelisk writen in sand and blood in the Mohavy Desert. There was another sand obelisk in the Sahara Desert too. Unfortunately they were bombed and destroyed by the USA marines.
The title of Dalai was conferred on the Third monk of the Yellow Sect by Kublai Khan, Genghis's grandson. He was made the governor of Tibet as the represntative of the Chinese Mongol empire. China and Tibet were part of that empire. That was the unified country under the Chinese Mongolian emperor.
