BBsdawg: Dunno about the UK, but in most states in the US, the statute of limitations do not apply while the perp is out-o-state. Besides, even if the statute did protect him from prosecution, he still couldn't keep the money because it didn't belong to him in the first place. In any case, he is still an illegal alien and, therefore, subject to deportation, regardless. Same for his wife and any children not born in the US. If the older children want to stay here to care for the minor children, that MIGHT pass muster. I wonder, after two decades on the lam, does he still think it was worth it ???

The statute of limitations (at least in America) only applies to persons that are not charged with a crime. I imagine they charged him the next day and the warrant is good for eternity (with a few exceptions).

The SOL is for unsolved crimes; the police have only a certain amount of time to bring charges before they are barred by the SOL. (Murder being the big exception)

Doing research the statute of limitations in England is 6 years. As he did not use force to take the money it is theft/larceny, not robbery. As stated in the article, he just drove off with the armored car he was employeed to drive while his partner was out of it making a delivery, hence theft.

The US Statute of limitations does not always work in the USA. It like many other Constitutionally mandated things are routinely violated by the authorities who have taken an oath to protect and defend the US Constitution against all enemies both domestic and foreign. Not saying he or anyone else for that matter should be able to get away with crime like the politicians do. Just saying that the law is the law and should work in both directions. The protections were placed in the Constitution for a reason, to keep the Government from trampling the citizens. In particular the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th Amendments. Crimes will be punished. We reap what we sow. We will all have to stand before Jesus one day. I know the Constitution does not specifically specify anything about Statute of Limitations but it is the Law and should not to be violated by those sworn to uphold the law.
