Um... do you read the newspaper? do you watch the news? I don't know what police state Cassie is referring to since I don't live in a police state. I do know that there is a lot of effort put into keeping the U.S. safe from terrorist. If there wasn't this diligence, here in the U.S., there would be successful terrorist attacks in the U.S. by militant Muslims. Who knows what access the author of the study has to the true numbers. What he doesn't know is how many militant Muslims are being monitored and stopped that don't make it into the public arena. Just maybe the numbers of reported incidents have dropped because of the security procedures in place and not because there is no threat.

I agree with chefaz. So we have two lucky years, during which law enforcement stings stopped what could have been tragedies, and now the threat is "miniscule"? Totally ridiculous! One would need to look at a long span of time, not just two years, to gauge the threat realistically.

But it's interesting that almost half of the terrorists are white American converts. I guess there's no zeal like that of a convert...the violence is probably attractive to those who are already unbalanced.

I chalk up this lack of successful attacks to effective investigation and disruption of plots by law enforcement. While there were no successful attacks last year, there were a number of high profile plots that were stopped by the law enforcement community. Misguided articles and studies like this lead to complacency and that complacency will leave this country vulnerable to attacks. The best way to prevent these attacks is through continued vigilance.

I don't knoow if they're eager to live in a police state, but they are eager to boost their egos and senses of self worth through exclusion and demonization of an easy target.

• If being Muslim is such a defining characteristic that we use it to profile people, than why don't we look at the majority of Muslims as opposed to a tiny minority?
• Those who say "profiling" is okay, you're missing a few cars on the logic train. Using a discription to find a suspect, and placing in that discription words like, black, woman, Muslim is okay, as is stopping people who fit that description, because a crime has already been committed and witnessed. The issue here is that Muslims in general aren't suspects. If you say they are, than I refer you back to number one.
• I always hear these claims of "Muslims celebrating in the streets of American towns on 9/11." I've yet to see a link to a news story about that though. I've also tried researching it on my own... Still nothing.
• The other thing I always hear is "Well if they denounced terror..." Ahem, the American Muslim Council, Council on Islamic-American Relations, Islamic Circle of North America, Islamic Society of North America, Muslim American Society, and Muslim Public Affairs Council, all released statements condemning the act. I'm still waiting for the Vatican, The Protestants, The Methodists, The Baptists, White Men, White Woman, Jews, Black Men, Black Women... and every other demographic imaginable, to condemn all the crazy crap they've done to the world. Not to mention, why should they have to apologize for something they had nothing to do with. White people complain all the time about feeling they have to "apologize" for slavery, when they never owned slaves. It's the same thing.

"al wala wal bara" is the Islamic practice of hating the non-Muslim, as much as you love 'allah'

One of the aspects of iman is al wala wal bara loving and hating for the sake of Allah Alone. It is one of the most important beliefs of Islam after Tawheed. Allah says in His Book:

Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers. Whoever does this has no connection with Allah unless you are guarding yourselves against them as a precaution. Allah bids you to beware of Himself. And to Allah is the journeying. (Surat Ali Imran 3:28)

The reason why al wala wal bara is so important in Islam is because, if it is taken into practice, it can remove all the characteristics of Jahiliyyah from the Muslim Ummah, it guarantees the preservation of the Ummah, and it distinguishes the believer from the disbeliever. When one loves and hates for Allahs sake only, they are raised degrees higher than those who love, hate, and act based on their own desires or fake gods or for other meaningless things. Allah states in His Speech:

Those who believe do battle for the cause of Allah and those who disbelieve do battle for the cause of idols. So fight the friends of Shaytaan. Surely, Shaytaans strategy is always weak. (Suratun-Nisaa 4:76)

This verse is speaking of al wala wal bara. Those who have iman
and belief and act upon al wala wal bara fight for Allahs cause and do battle with His enemies to preserve His Deen, while those who disbelieve fight for gods that dont even exist. Allah commands:

And fight them until persecution is no more and religion is for Allah. (Suratul Baqarah 2:193)

Only the people who love and hate for the sake of Allah will act upon this command. These are the people that understand the meaning of al wala wal bara, which will be discussed below, Insha Allah.

The exact same thing could have been said about the threat of Nazism in Germany in the 1920s. Thousands more Germans of that time died from the flu, food poisoning, car crashes, and common criminals, than at the hand of Nazis. I mean, sure, Nazis were bad, but in the grand scheme of things they weren't much of a threat to Germany or anyone else at that time. Right?
