@ ChrisWanker Thanks for the link, you'd think the author would provide a picture or a link, but didn't. Even though the picture is crap, art is subjective and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what she did was disgusting.
Yup, Uncle Ben. But because of all the legal BS today, there is probably a copyright law which prohibits it's showing. You know, someone might copy it and make another few million on it , selling it upside down.
Amazing art -- people who look at this and don't see the talent are ignorant asses. She probably is one of those 99% crowd that resents anything of value that they don't understand.

The Mona Lisa needed talent to create I can throw paint at a canvas How can I sell my pictures to these museums if I "create" this art?
I am an artist. I can paint photo-realistic paintings --- but good abstraction that creates composition and draws you in and makes you want to continue to look is far more difficult. I guess that people who have not done it, or have not tried, just don't understand. Much representational art, and abstract art, including some of my own is kitsch. I too have a problem with a lot of the kitsch that is done in the name of art, but this art is not kitsch.
Much representational art, and abstract art, including some of my own is kitsch
God save us from intellectuals. Normal Rockwell produced kitsch, beloved by lowbrows everywhere and still capable of bringing a smile to unpretentious viewers.
Besides... Impressionism is all about what one does with art! I'm certain there's someone out there who would pay even more since she rubbed her butt on it.
I am also an artist, but to call people that do not see the talent in that painting (which I do NOT) ignorant asses is very ignorant of you! So many artists have talent, but THAT "painting" a monkey (hell, even an elephant) could do, which was proven a couple of years ago. I am sure same people see it as "great" art as you do, that is no reason to call people of different opinion names!
I never did like that piece either - It's WHY I HID it!!!!! (mumbles: meddling wife!) the canvas was worth 2 bits though and I figured why waste an already streched & primed one worth a buck that I can paint over.
(C. Stills shrugs & rolls back to his RIP)
All in fun - not condoning vandalism by drunkards etc.
I've been a professional artist for over thirty years, so I know what I'm talking about. Anyone that would pay .30 cents for one of his paintings seriously lacks good sense. His paintings are expressive yes but they are not great works of art. My six year old son could just as well. This in no way however condones what this woman did.
@Gary Root...My 5 year old grandson can paint better works of art than this piece of crap canvas will ever be. This is just another example of the "dumbing" of the populous....even his less abstract impressionistic works are garbage, yet he is considered a leading proponent of that school of art, along with Jackson Pollock who's work looks like chickens scratching on the paper, followed by an irate child with a pen.....this is as close to being art as Rap is to being music....and people like you who attempt to defend this should be sent to the island of lost souls...because you definitely don't have one.
She should be shot if ever she sets foot into ANY museum again. I find this disturbing, and I don't even care for "Modern" art. But on the humorous side, it does give new meaning to the phrase "Artsy Fartsy".
This is a joke. Did she climb a ladder to get to the painting, or did they put it on the ground for her to get a better look at a 30 mil dollar painting. Most painting valued at over a mil are hung on a wall out of reach of the people.
This story doesn't make any sense at all for me. If they put a 30 mil painting on the floor for someone to get close to and do something like this, then the people owning the painting are the idiots, and she just proved them to be idiots by doing what she did to this so-called 30 mil painting.
I wouldn't give 3 bucks for it, and it's making me think of "insurance scam/fraud" after reading this story.
Funny to see the repsonses. Thise saying that those who understand abstract art are "pretentious viewers" and that they could do a Clifford Still. These are the same people who think they know more about global warming than the scientists I'll bet. Just becasue you don;t understand something you don;t have to denigrate it. It is not beyond your capabilities top understand it, just beyond you closed minded attitudes.
Some absrtactsd can be hung upside doen....so what? If it makes you feel better to make fun of this, then feel better. Everyone has the right to be a fool. There is a lot of contemporary art that's crap, like there's alot of figurative art that's crap. Thomas Kincaid for an example.
All you do when you make these jokes is show your ignorance and your inability to appreciate. But, keep it up. It's actually entertaining until one of you starts rubbing your butt up against a treasure. You keep interesting company.
Not my kind of art, but many of you are missing the point. She vandalized someone elses property. If she did 10k worth of damage to your house or car you'd be furious.
"Just becasueyou don;t understand something you don;t have to denigrate it. It is not beyond your capabilities top understand it, just beyond you closed minded attitudes."
Ferro perhaps you're just missing the real counter point that just because someone calls something art and is willing to pay $30K or $30M or $30B for it doesn't make it something that is reverent or needing some special intellect or knowledge ("capabilities" you speak of) to appreciate. Much of the explanations of expressionism (art film music whatever) are nothing but self indulgent attempts to explain the unpalatable. Yes, sometimes. The populous judges it's sense of art and we often don't agree - that's ok - it has to be because art is not just for the elitists and it's quite alright to agree to disagree without playing the "you don't understand it" card (of course this is an entirely different subject from vandalism being wrong - the jokes that the painting was improved is not the same as excusing the act).
Mr Still must have had a hand in her tattoos, too. Neither one impresses me.
HOWEVER, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. And if enough people bid on the paintings done by Mr Still to render the sale above $100 million, it has its value.
I DID do an abstract once for my college art class. My instructor said he saw "genius" in my work. Seriously? I did it blindfolded so as not to allow my own narrow-minded perspective to control an artform I typically did not appreciate.
Still don't like abstracts. Too much work to enjoy them. But my absolute hero is the "kitchy" Norman Rockwell. It wasn't that his artistry surpassed all others; it was just that he knew how to paint foibles as objects of beauty. His intent was for people to learn to love humanity's imperfections.
Maybe, just maybe if I ate enough halucinogenics that painting mught look like something, or maybe your senses are supposed to cross so you and hear or taste the colors... Hmmmm where is my damn Ergot????
Not my kind of art, but many of you are missing the point. She vandalized someone elses property. If she did 10k worth of damage to your house or car you'd be furious.
I hope she gets the jail time she deserves.
awwww, c'mon, just give her some water colors and a paintbrush and make he paint another one.
Hard to say what was going on in her head, but maybe she thought she was reaching for toilet paper. Anyway, this has brought a lot of attention to the museum. Could this act be a set up to bring in more revenue?
She doesn't need a brush, with her, applying the paint to her behind and making prints on canvas would be her art. How do I get a hold of this woman? I bet I could make her happy. LHerAO
I tell you, the first time I was really impressed with a painting was when I came across a work by Caravaggio at the Boston museum of fine arts. I was like, "OK, I know this has got to be some good stuff."
It's the way the guy used light in his paintings and how it detailed somebody's state of mind. Absolutely amazing. That takes a lot of work.
Ever since I've been like, "Picasso who?" I truly don't understand what the big deal is with these "abstract" artists. I mean, I could take a dump and spread it all across a canvas. Does that make me a "genius"???
I am inclined to agree with Gary Root - people who do not understand this woman's behavior are only displaying their own ignorance; she is obviously what is referred to as a "Performance Artist" - her tatoos are proof - she uses her body as "art" and her pressing her buttocks to the canvas can best be understood as an act of "impressionism"
I fail to see how all of you unwashed , unsophisticated rabble cannot understand this
Everyone is famous for a day they say, what a way to be remembered.
Somehow I'm sure we will hear her behavior was the result of someone elses influence or her environment. Sorry folks, like the artwork her actions were abstract and as personal and up-close as it gets! Chalk this one up to lack of personal responsibility.
Miss Mortischa messed up, let's hope she learns from her mistake! From the looks of things "she will have a long row to hoe" as Grandad used to say!
This woman seems to be disturbed, any one who is mentally stable and in control of their impulses wouldn't act in such an inappropriate manner. While the rest of you debate the quality of art you do not understand perhaps you should wonder about why this woman acted the way she did.
Her actions were wrong no matter how good or bad the art is. This piece is only worth millions if there's someone out there with that kind of money that thinks it's worth having. Doesn't matter if it's paintings, cars or antiques. If someone spent their last dime on this then THEY'RE nuttier than she is. Otherwise, a fool and his money....
WOW a crazy looking b!tch rubs her @ss on what can only be called zoo created art and somehow that brings out comments about Occupy, Obama, and Bush. I guess we truly did get the government we deserved.
I agree, mary - THAT is worth $30 million?! Somebody give me a paintbrush!! Hell, somebody give my 2 yr old a paintbrush!! $30 million piece of art comin' right up...
JK, Walter, plain bob. I can always count on you guys to crack me up especially when I'm stoned, which is pretty much all of the time. Damn good weed, real sticky bud. LFMAO!! Pack a bowl, roll a joint, it don't matter 'cause buzzin is the point. (It's copy written.) A line from one of my songs.
My two year old granddaughter can do better than that. Maybe we can sell some of her "art Work" to a museum for 30 mil.
Know why people look at tasteless crap like this and get all lofty and act jaded? It's because, really, they know that they are nobodies and they feel the need to Appear like they are a somebody. So they will compensate by trying to make remarks to make you or me look like we are smaller or less of a person than they are. What they don't realize, is that in their attempt to belittle everyone else, is that they are making fools of themselves. You see, they really do think that people are dumb and don't give credit to people for having a brain to see through their bllsht. My dad always said: "son, if a jacka$$ kicks you just consider the source".
I'm guessing it was close to the floor cause the artsy-fartsy snob crowd walks around with their heads tilted way back so they can look down there noses at the little people....
I'm not sure what to think about anything here. People saying its not art, but the painting sells for a nice sum of cash. I do have to say, the women that pee'd on the painting, goes to exterems to have a little fun, or else she has some very strong feelings for the piece. What I'm wondering is how they had the piece displayed, for her to be able to do all this to it. If its such a valuable piece wouldn't you think they would of had it out of reach to the public that veiws it, or at the least have it behind glass. I would think if its out of reach, then anyone just walking by it won't be able to put their used gum on it, or like this women rub her butt and then tinkle on it. So I'm actually thinking the museum could of used a little more sense in displaying this piece. Things are different out there now days and if you prepare yourself correctly, you can just go about your business without anyone peeing on it. Now days people are more expressive of how they feel about things. This picture had to be displayed below eye level for her to wizz on it, almost like the museum was hoping someone would fire one off on it. Then this women, to be able to play fireman ok, firewomen in this case, she had to be drinking a lot of something for her to get a stream up that high. I'm impressed by this story. I don't know maybe I'm the problem.
I'm sure that this incident will lead to a whole new art form: butt painting......something like finger painting butt with a different part of the anatomy. She probably could have sold it for millions had she tried it on a blank canvas. Probably would have improved the Still's work had she done so.
Since when do we lock up our most serious and conscientious art critics? There is some small subset of mentalities out there who have put a dollar value on the painting and Ms Tisch disagrees with their assessment. Certainly her own work in the area of art appraisal, given this example, is as imaginative and informative and bold as Mr. Still's work, as given by this example. And who is to say that he would not fully approve of her opinion? Bravo, Ms Tisch! Encore?
For those who say their kid can do better art, you are all fools for not letting your kids make millions actually doing it. Why can't you support your kids' talent? Get them a studio, and sell a few paintings, I suggest no more than 3-4 million dollars apiece--you'll get more money in the end due to higher volume sales.
I feel bad for the woman, she looks like she has issues.
Did some of you even really look at or read the article? First...the picture is in the story so a link was not necessary to take a look at it (but thank you for doing it for the ones who are not very observant). Second point...she did not pee "on the painting", but_t near it. After that...it just became hard to read anymore about this debate on what some fool who thought the picture was worth to them paid to make the "value" be of such an exorbitant price...to each their own. I personally would not pay you a penny or any other denomination of money for this form of "?art?" as it has absolutely no value to me in my life except perhaps for a fire starter...it wasn't created by one of my Grand-children.
To the actions of the inebriated subject...not very becoming of her, but again...has no value within my life and I hope she can live with it for the rest of her life. May she never develop a conscience because she may then regret her actions...hope the fine and all are worth it to her...surely at least the media attention will be something for her to talk about for years!
art is subjective, I think it's ugly , but that is my opinion and I don't see 30 million dollars worth of painting , but the scank bitch did not have the right to damage the painting
I believe this picture was painted by quite a deeply disturbed personality. In fact viewing the painting causes me enough anxiety that I posit this poor, somewhat deranged woman, after spending just a nanosecond too long peering into the canvas, was triggered into a psychotic break which caused her to act out her anger towards her incestuous kin.
She is a scum loser because of her behavior! But, she also looks like a filthy loser too! Yeah, those tats will look great when she's like 60. Hopefully this scum hasn't spawned anymore scum.
While incarcerated, hopefully some other scum will pee on her!
If I made "art" like that, and someone hot and famous (i.e. Natalie Portman) punched and rubbed her butt against my art, I could probably get it to sell for more than this piece of crap.
I am glad that all of you have your comments posted on this work of art known as vile putrid blithering idiot soundoff... Those who have commented on this womans appearence are obviously hideous hooknosed snaggle toothed bridge trolls. Those who have decided to critique the artists work are no better than this girl pissing on his creation. At least she had the excuse of being drunk. You're are just an @!$%#! Those who have not done either. You will be the light at the end of this disgraceful tunnel.
i wonder how many tats are on her ass? or if those smudges are tats...eeeewwww. maybe she had one of those itches you just can't reach...the picture was handy...aaaahhhhhhhh.
This woman has great potential as an art critic. Even more as an entertainer. Just think of the art she could create with a paint brush stuck in the appropriate place.
My two year old grandaughter, when she was just a little over a year old was in her playpen, stuck her hand in her diaper and smeared poop all over the place. M-a-n, we laughed our a$$e$ off!!! Talk about stinky cute, it was funny as hell. Too bad we didn't have a cam-corder handy. It woulda been great blackmail leverage when she became a teenager, LOL!!!!
I wonder if we could sell her "art" work for 30 mil. it looked just like that painting.
No I agree with Peitro. The museum's negligence doesn't excuse the actions of this sorry piece of trailer-trash. But to leave a 30 million dollar painting where anybody can lay their hands (or buttocks) on it, is negligent.
What this woman did out of drunken malice, a 2-year-old might have done out of childish curiosity.
I have to wonder how she got her buttocks on it. Did she take it off the wall? Did someone lift her up? She does look dysfunctional for sure. Poor sad creature. However I see beauty in the painting myself. I wouldn't care to hang it but it is attactive to me.
Locked doors just keep honest people honest. The same goes for merchandise in a store. It sits on the counter for anyone to pickup. Whether it gets paid for at the counter is a whole different ballgame. Just because someone CAN do damage, it doesn't mean that they MUST do damage.
If we lived in a perfect world, we could hang that painting on a street corner for folks to admire, and it would hang there unmolested and undamaged. But we don't live in a perfect world, and no matter what we do to prevent idiots from acting out inappropriately, they still do. It doesn't matter if it's in a museum or on the street corner, we still have the idiots. Blaming the museum is blaming the victim. (The blame game gets old after a while, I wish folks would stop.)
As for the painting, art is in the eye of the beholder. I don't like all the art I see, but I can respect it for what it is. Condemning the painting because of one's lack of appreciation for it is a personal decision that encompasses the opinion of ONE person. Someone else might truly love the work, and that's their ONE opinion. Personally, I like it. It's not something I would do, but I find it appealing in its own way. For someone to make a total ass (double entendre) of herself in attacking the painting robs everyone else of their ability to make their own decisions in that regard.
Yeah, how can you say she lives in a trailer park? I think she just got back from the OWS protests, and this was another way to express her anger at the 1%. The museum should be faulted for letting anyone have access to the works they display: it should all be behind protective shields, and barriors keeping people at a safe distance.
Dani and PittDeacon, you are both right. I do not know that she lives in a trailer park. I only think that she looks as if she belongs in one, and one that is long over due for a cleaning by a tornado.
Objectively speaking, she looks highly troubled, probably with an unaddressed substance abuse problem and underlying mental issues.
But who knows, maybe she is a respected deacon in her local church and just had too much wine at a recent PTA dinner. Anything is possible.
Zapper, that's a whole lot of words just to defend museum management for being stupid. Let's see if I have this straight: No museum could possibly outwit a drunken bimbo and prevent her from wiping her ass on a $30 million dollar piece of art because there will always be bimbos intent on wiping their asses on expensive art. And yet I can protect my $100 stereo just by locking my car doors.
She is totally responsible for her actions, no doubt. But I think they could have prevented her from damaging their painting. Someone oughta catch hell for not protecting it.
You seem to feel an air of superiority by labeling anyone from the OWS protests as being a person who's trying to destroy culture.
I find your opinion not only to be wrong but un-American at the same time.
Our country was founded by protestors against tyranny. Our own continental army who fought and won against the British would also appear before your eyes as being a rag tag group that you would look down upon because of appearance only.
Any group that sells out their country by shipping jobs overseas, importing substandard goods, changing the financial safeguards within our system in order to have a license to steal in my book are by definition traitors. They sell out their country in order to profiteer at the expense of society.
If you feel that the elite that engage in these activities are worthy of respect and admiration, you are part of the problem.
Old LH: What's the point in having art if you can't see it? I've been to dozens of museums, and I can reach right out and touch almost all the art. (Very little is behind anything more than a velvet rope.) Of course, an alarm will sound, but that doesn't mean I still can't touch it. I have no idea what kinds of alarms were on this work, but obviously this would not have stopped this creature from doing what she did. It boils down to someone who doesn't care about anybody but herself, velvet ropes or not.
I'm guessing that those of you criticizing the museum for not protecting the painting don't go to art museums. In art museums all over the world, priceless paintings are displayed with nothing more than a velvet rope to keep people at a distance. The only exception I've personally seen is the Mona Lisa, which was a repeated target for thieves.
Putting a painting behind barriers (including under glass) degrades the experience tremendously.
Illumination: Most protestors of tyranny when our country was founded,
didn't go around defecating on other peoples property on purpose. The majority of ows are foul smelling, dirty litterers who leave their mark of vandalism wherever they occupy.
However, this vine isn't about that. It's about some poc woman who has a total disregard for her body and her surroundings.
"Illumination: Most protestors of tyranny when our country was founded, didn't go around defecating on other peoples property on purpose."
Uh...by definition & intention the tea party (the real one) was an act of vandalism used as a form of protest & objection - and it got noticed (not just here in Boston). Just sayin' - it's an iconic part of our history.
the most interesting aspect for this story is the lack of security surrounding a thirty million dollar painting. additionally, like another writer, i wonder how did she get her ass onto the painting. why was the painting within ass reach.
Wow, okay illumination, you're more than entitled to your own opinions; we'll agree to disagree on most of the nonsense you spewed above. However, Pittdeacons assertion is certainly spot on of her being reminiscent of your typical OWS protester; at least with respect to her appearance and her fascination with public urination and defacation.
I'm not part of the 1 percent but I do respect those with the ability to keep their business afloat despite oppressive, regressive, overbearing regulations created at the behest of people who I'm guessing are very similar to you in their opinions. If you want to keep jobs here, make it easier for our country to compete.
Anyways, I guess I am part of the problem in your view. Here's the thing though, I really do not care what you or any other OWSer thinks of me. Truly, I believe you people are the real problem with this country. Unfortunately, most of those who fall into this category are too stupid to understand what they're protesting. You're like a new or renamed class or genre of people habitually guilty of being walking contradictions.
"We hate having to do stuff to get stuff!!!"; i.e. "We are the 99%!"
For some reason this has been dubbed largely a modern youth movement similar to the hippies of 60s; I'm young and pretty much the opposite of wealthy and you would think I could muster some empathy for your cause. I cannot. I look at you people and see petulant children in the bodies of adults; it really is pathetic.
she obviously did not see value in it, its terribly off balance, two of the five blotches of color esp the yellow don't fit, but that's just me I never appreciated abstract art, always thought it was a excuse for no talent, worth millions that's hard to believe.
When she passes on how much do you think her hide will be worth? might make a good lamp shade! straech it out on the wall with a sign saying don't let this happen to you.
I would also end entitlements such as corporate welfare. We don't need to coddle the wealthy or give them huge tax breaks.
Perhaps re-establishing the middle class and paying a living wage may seem extreme to you; but to me it is ridiculous to keep up with the economic race to the bottom to remain competitive with regimes who don't care about rights or liberty shouldn't be our goal. All this just to keep the economic gap growing between the top 1% and everyone else seems like a worthless goal to me, but you are entitled to your opinion.
From my experience there would be more people on the anti OWS crowd who would denigrate contemporary art than those in the OWS crowd. Your prejudice is astounding.
Everyone is famous for a day they say, what a way to be remembered!!!
Somehow I'm sure we will hear her behavior was the result of someone elses influence or her environment. Sorry folks, like the artwork her actions were abstract and as personal and up-close as it gets! Chalk this one up to lack of personal responsibility. I truly hope she gets her.......stuff together.
Miss Mortischa messed up, let's hope she learns from her mistake! From the looks of things "she will have a long row to hoe" as Grandad used to say!
Don't put her in our boat she wouldn't last, give her to the LGBT community they will protect her. the LGBT thrives on people who are not afraid to show who they really are. she was just borne that way, cant be helped. we need to teach our children to know her actions are OK, just because you don't run around rubbing your buttocks on everything doesn't make it wrong, its not her fault, she was born that way!
I live in Denver and security at the Denver Art Museum is more than adequate. There are guards are visible always walking around the exhibits. Does that prevent idiots (or inquisitive small children) from damaging the art? Of course not...
I agree with ARNOLD, art is best represented, and I'm sure the original intention of the artist, to be seen in a natural personal environment. Not boxed up in a glass case or behind a barbed wire fence. This woman was obviously maintaining a level of decorum at the front door or they wouldn't have let her in to begin with but she's was obviously in some sort of drug addled state.
I think JQ does care, I also grew up in the 50-60's and being a Hippie from that era is nothing to be proud about,
that's the generation that started this nation on its down hill slide. how well do you remember the 50's they were great the first half of the 60's were good, by the time 1968 rolled around every thing went south and just kept going. I'm not blaming it all on the Hippie, but the hippie was in part part of the problem and America is suffering from the gap that was created by that generation. and the moral degradation that came with it. that and a bunch of piss poor politicians.
oh and speaking of drug addled state of mind - what the hell is you problem STRAYCAT?!
JG posted a thoughtful, concise and on point comment and you tell him to "come back after you've reached pubescence..." because your a hippie form the 60's?!
First of all... you can't spell for @!$%#, you didn't offer any thing of value to the conversation and i think you're just jealous because JG is smarter than you (one can only imagine the brain cells you've killed over the years given your comment)
and to be honest... nobody cares about '60's hippies anymore... ouch!!!
You can really catch the liberals in their hypocrisy on this one.
If a Mall or Apartment had inadequate security - and some crazy person did harm or damage to a shopper or resident -
they not only would blame the facility - they would expect the MALL or APARTMENT to PAY the victim!
But when it is not a normal private business, such as an art gallery, they will tell you that things just happen, and you can't expect things like this not to happen - that security can't prevent it.
Let's be honest, Liberals are anti business. Or, since that's who creates jobs - they are anti jobs. When you also see that they want no use of fossil fuels - basically they want us all to be equal - equal cavemen living in squalor.
They spend all their efforts on trying to bring down the successful to their level. For them, equality is more important than actual conditions. People in Cuba are nearly all equal - equally poor. Meanwhile the "Poor" in the US would be well off in Cuba.
Even it the littlest issue, we can see the problems with the philosophy of the left.
All the name calling and judgments are what cause the problems, this class warfare... everyone's trash if they aren't a high achiever.. or if life has @!$%# on them. I see her point. Why is a painting worth 30mil when we degrade our people to nothing?
Mark, excuse me, but there are stupid things done by educated people every single day. They drink and get drunk just like anyone, they do outlandish stuff.
I'm just saying, being called names and treated like @!$%# your whole life makes people desperate, and mad as hell.
Ryan, we liberals are not anti business, we are anti slavery. We are assets to business when we want to work for them. We believe in fair wages, fair treatment for giving our lives for someone to have a business and their riches.
We do not mind people being rich... as long it's not on the backs of the working people.
This country was for the middle class, working people. Now their jobs are gone, education is out of sight for a huge amount of people, or people go into life long debt (slavery) to pay of an education that isn't getting them a job these days.
I am a liberal and proud of it. I have worked my life for a dream that is being taken away from me. I played by the rules, raised my kids to be contributing citizens, only for them to be failing... in this system of inequities.
As long as it continues, we will have mad, desperate people.
Conservative attitudes have gone toooo far to the right, that kind of thinking was good in the past, the ideology can not work now.
Ryan- You show what's wrong with the Right and Texas! Are you too stupid to understand that not only is a mall a business, but it's a bunch of business. So to is running an apartment complex. Heck I would even bet that this gallery or "normal" business is run by the Leftist you despise. I would also bet that it was funding by that same Left that made this gallery possible. Oh and another thing Im very liberal and guess what I put gas (a fossile fuel) in my car a few times a week. You are right about one thing and that is that the Right is all about jobs. Like sending jobs to China or India. Get a clue jacka$$!!!
If the painting should be appriciated by everyone without any restrictions of glass or at least a safe distance from the general crowds of people veiwing it. Then go and hang it in the high anxiety ward of a mental institution. I'm sure they would love to appriciate it too. I believe what some people were trying to say is that if the museum took a little precaution of how they displayed it, then maybe this wouldn't of happened, no big deal. Then the critics in here need to make it a liberal thing and that just makes me want to come to your house and take a dump on your carpet. But thats just my feelings on how the conservatives feel. Jagoffs.
ever BEEN to a museum? Most artwork IS right out there for people to get close to. It would make no sense to put the picturing way up high, as someone suggested up above (you can't exactly see a painting well if it's not at eye level). And you can't always put it behind glass, b/c glares obstruct the view.
Once again, we blame the victims. What a society. How about your car? If someone vandalizes your car, are you going to blame yourself for bringing it out in public? Duh.
For some people in here making comments and thinking they are intellegent. Thats the conservatives, I'm talking about. Let me tell you, theres some very smart hippies, just because they live a life style thats a little closer to nature than you dosen't make them less intellegent of a person than you are, because your flaunting your riches by driving some foreign car such as a lexus or whatever, thats a piece of crap and also a veichle that I wouldn't mind taking a dump in and wiping on the headrests in the car. I don't get it, Mercedes made by the germans that killed so many people under hitlers reign and then lexus made by the japs that bombed our brothers and sisters and you support them rather than going and buying a great American car. Whats a matter, Caddilac not good enough for you? Perosnally I think they are a beautiful car and so much better than any foreign car that may set its tires on our American soil. But the conservatives take and buy that foreign crap and then put a "proud to be an American" bumper sticker on it and think they are someone special. Well one day if I end up losing my better judgement I might just pull a driver out of one of those cars and drag them to the back of their cars and take their head and beat it against the bumper sticker they have on there and then go take a dump in the car too, but I probably won't do that. I know thats wrong and I hope I can control my true feelings when I do see such display of idiotcy by someone thinking they are better than the next guy. These people should hope this lady that tinkled on the piece of art dosen't feel like this and react like I was saying, see what I mean? Have a nice day.
Notice the liberals never dare touch the crux of the argument.
That they would hold a mall, or apartment responsible for the actions of a crazy person - but never an art gallery.
They would easily say that the Mall or Apartment didn't have enough security - and so it's their fault for the actions of a criminal.
But then just as fast they tell you that an art gallery having adequate security is no issue. That it is blaming the victim.
And yet, does the mall or apt. benefit from crime on their property? Are they not hurt by the crimes there? Of course they are.
So the liberals blame the victim if it is a for profit business. How is that not anti-business?
Let's be honest, even the liberals are afraid to actually look in the mirror and see what they have become. That's why they stay away from logic altogether. For them, it's about feelings.
Can you blame them? Denial melts in the brilliant light of reality.
So they want jobs without bosses.
They hate slavery, but take the labor of one man's back by force and redistribute it to another man.
They tell you it's a businesses responsibility to provide adequate security - unless it is not for profit.
The museum should definitely be held accountable to the artist or the owner of the art for not protecting it better but I don't see how they should be held accountable for this idiot's actions. They didn't tell her to rub her junk up against the painting or invite her to do so and the fact that it wasn't "protected" wasn't an open invitation to do so either.
Well, we've come a long way, all the distance between discussing why an adult woman wipes her butt on a painting to which political party is more at fault for this odd incident.
This is not a political issue. Perhaps the museum is at fault for lax security. But this woman is to blame too, or her mental illness, and she is probably more than half a bubble off of plumb.
But for some people is an example of how the liberals have messed up this country, and for others it is about how conservatives don't know what is going on, or vise versa.
How sadly predictable. It happens with just about every story reported on the internet.
Have you ever been to an art museum? Most museums most certainly do not keep the artwork out of reach. Most museums simply hang the work at eye level on the wall. If something is encased in glass it's usually due to the need for specific climate control to protect the work from humidity or temperature changes, not from the public. Some specific works (for instance the Mona Lisa) are protected behind bullet proof glass with roped off viewing areas after numerous vandalism attempts, and frankly it greatly harms the viewing experience. Museums have to balance security with visitor experience. Museums and galleries exist precisely so people can enjoy the work up close and personal. If I can't see the brush strokes or the chisel marks or what have you, then I could save time by just looking at photographs of it in a book. Art is no good if it can't be enjoyed, so effectively ruining the work of art (by ruining the viewing experience) to protect it from an incredibly RARE attempt at vandalism would be a horrible idea. It's a cost/benefit ratio thing.
Have you ever been to an art museum? Most museums most certainly do not keep the artwork out of reach.
Surprisingly, I have.
I agree that most museums do not keep art work behind bullet proof glass, or post homicidal german shepards next to rare artifacts. But most do have museum personnel unobtrusively present in every room where valuable art is kept. I've never tried, but if I did try to touch a painting, let alone drop my trowsers and rub my body against it [it feels creepy just contemplating it], I'm sure somebody would intervene.
...and for a painting worth 30 million dollars, I would expect a little heightened security, just as a matter of common sense.
Are the security failures of this museum terribly egregious?
No.
But if the painting were on loan, and had been irreparably damaged, they would certainly be liable in any civil tort which resulted, because the painting was in their care.
She obviously needs more tattoos. How about a big spider web on her face with a black spider on her nose. Can we punch her face like she did the painting?
MAY-BE , She was just pissed that 30 mil went towards this, "ART" instead of helping to feed 30 mil starving people.. or starting a businness that would employ a few hundred Others.. I AM..
Not all people who live in trailers are trash. I myself do not live in one but when I was younger and had a lower paying job, starting out on my own, could not afford anything more, I did live in one. I am not trash.
I think she was really moved by the painting, and obviously needs to learn to control herself. To be honest, I think the artist would be happy that his painting brought out such strong emotion from someone. Looking at the painting makes me kind of 'on edge' myself. Artists aren't in it for the money, they do it for the expression and emotions. Once they are dead someone else can make money from it.
this article is about ART and BUTTOCKS, NOT abortion!
Yes, but DougCoe22201 started it with a cheap political smear in #3.5:
She is most likely a republicqan, they hate impressioinist and abstract art, they always have such a hard time wrapping their very small and narrow minds around anything that isnt senseless violence or war related.
While I do wonder why on earth this painting was not kept out of immediate reach from the public, it's still no excuse for a member of the public to act like a lowlife idiot. She's entirely responsible for her actions as far as I am concerned.
Good point. She IS a lowlife idiot. However, why should anyone tolerate the behavior of a lowlife idiot, or make excuses for it? Tattoos and booze do not a lowlife make. It's how one acts that does it, and if we continually excuse it, her type will continue to abuse it.
This article is about the inappropriate behavior of a drunken woman. It doesn't matter that it's a painting she attacked. It could have been someone's car she keyed; someone's child she battered; perhaps she ripped the clothes off someone because she didn't like the designer. Maybe it's a house that she doesn't like, so she burns it down. What if it's a restaurant, and someone is served chicken, and she doesn't like chicken, so she squats on your plate. This whole story is about a person who doesn't care about boundaries, appropriateness or behavior. It's about someone who believes that it's all about her, and everyone else is her target.
Tatoos certainly do not make a person a Low Life. Too much alcohol (or any other drug) certainly can make a person act like a fool, or as they say, a low life.
As for the painting, the taxpayer did not buy this piece, but they will be footing the bill to fix it, footing the bill to the courts to prosceute this woman, and footing the bill futher still to house this woman in the either Denver State Women's' Correctional Facility, or the State hospital in Pueblo.
Ink up and drink up, but don't lose control of your actions when you do. That's the point I'm making. A low life would act that way anyway and use other factors as an excuse. Not everyone that is inked or drinks acts like an idiot.
Definition of Low-Life: One who owns a 52" flat screen TV and a 4G Smartphone, but has only three strips of two week old bacon and a can of Keystone Light in the refrigerator.
"Tatoos certainly do not make a person a Low Life"
Or at least not a fair judge of art/style....course when it's a tattoo on the face we call that crazy only proving we all have thresholds and make judgements of what's going on under the hood.
Guess who pays where the insurance company gets their money. Maybe you should do a little research and find out how insurance works. I bet you think insurance companies have little magic bags that grow money.
Well I may not know how insurance companies work but I do know that when I file my income taxes I don't have anything taken from me to pay any insurance company. I do that I pay 65 dollars a month for full coverage on my truck I bought it new in 2006 that is 780 dollars a year multiplied by 6 is 4680 dollars. I have never filed a claim with the insurance company so just to use that as a base if every person who has insurance pays that amount and only say 35% have claims that are over 10 grand I would say that the policy holders who don't have claims plus the interest those companies make on our premiums is what pays for the claims filed. Like I said I don't know how they work but I am pretty sure the taxpayers don't foot the bill for claims filed.
how insurance works, multiple people pitching into one pot to cover a loss or a means to collect $. Dont think the person collecting your $ isnt getting paid? lol.
Definition of Low-Life: One who owns a 52" flat screen TV and a 4G Smartphone, but has only three strips of two week old bacon and a can of Keystone Light in the refrigerator.
Hmmm... [takes inventory]
52" flat screen TV... check!
4g smartphone... check!
3 strips of two week old bacon... check!
1 can Keystone Light... PSSHHT! GLUG GLUG GLUG [BELCH]
WOOHOO! I AM *NOT* A LOWLIFE!
You might want to start praying NOW that the next time some OTHER lowlife tries to: steal your car, torch your house, rape your daughter, shoot your son or beat your wife for the $6.23 in her purse; maybe - JUST MAYBE - a "close but no lowlife" like ME will around to stop them.
Just remember, there are other people out there that live a "frugal" lifestyle for more reasons than you might think.
hear, hear, I'm still amazed at some of these people's prejudice. Really jealous I'm not that perfect- NOT! (I have to get me that flatscreen and the 4g though, got the bacon and beer ;-))
Seeing her mugshot, it doesn't surprise me. Pockmarks, hoodie, tattoos... none of those on their own is anything bad, but all together it reveals a lot about a person. The fact she's 30-something isn't helping her case either...
Hmmm, lets see.....pockmarks, hoodie, tattoos all mixed together, reveals that person is nothing better than a low life huh? You are so educated in spotting low lifes are you? All I can say is next time you need some one to volunteer to serve in a foreign country defending your way of life and your rights as well as those of your family and friends, please don't call me. If you find yourself the victim of a horrific accident and are laying on the ground bleeding profusely and in dire need of help, God forbid you get an EMT or Nurse that looks like that. Smarten up *A* hole! Howshelooks does not dictate her actions. She may be all the things you describe, but please be frugal with your opinions when you decide group all people with tattoos, hoodies and remnants of childhood medical maladies into one group of low lifes....Besides, the director of the museum must be retarded to leave $30 million dollar paintings in reach of people such as her......he/she is 50% to blame for allowing the painting to get damaged.
I know when I'm out walking at night, I remind myself not to stereotype people, so I'm just as happy walking among a group of drugged-up, tattooed bikers as a group of well-dressed, middle-aged persons coming out of a theater.
jerri-1...reading is fundamental...the OP said 'pockmarks, hoodie, tattoos'...didn't mention 'drugged up'...so your disagreement with mo nig isn't based on what was said, but on...I don't know...what you made up?
I have pockmarks, adult acne, tattoos and wear hoodies (and 55 years old), I guess that whould make me even more of a "loser"? You need to get of your high horse and get a life. BTW I know a lot of people with pockmarks, tattoos that wear hoodies that are very productive members of society and NOT as judgemental as you. It is her actions that make her a LOSER, not her LOOKS.
I just think it's funny to see that there are still people who cling onto silly stereo types. Winners come in all shapes, sizes, colors, backgrounds, etc. Losers come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and backgrounds too. I've known people that dress real nice, and look clean cut and will break into your house when you aren't home and people who have tattoos and wear hoodies and all black clothes who wouldn't steal a dime from you to feed their kids. Yeah, her appearance really doesn't matter that much, her actions are what matter.
In 1968, when I enlisted in the Marine Corps, if a person had three or more tattoo's, they were considered mentally unstable and subsequently rejected.
Hmmmm... Didn't Ted Bundy look like a nice clean decent man, not to mention .. he was an attorney??? Not comparing the magnitude of the crimes here. Simply trying to understand what a criminal is supposed to look like...
For Jeckunev-I am not sure how you figure that all three of these put together make for a bad person. Maybe you and her suffer from the same mental problem?
I guess at this point in time I should go back and tell all my customers that I am now a bad person because I wear a hoodie and have tattoos? Have owned the same business for over 10 years, a repair and maintenance company, along with tattooing. If more people had your attitude we would be alot worse off than we are now.
Do you know the differance bewteen tattooed peole and non-tattooed people? tattooed people dont care if your not tattooed.
In that case, I must be the worst form of lowlife. I may not have the pockmarks, but I do have the tattoos and wear hoodies. To make up for the lacking pockmarks, I have 3/4" holes in my ears, and facial piercings. Guess what? I'm a systems admin and web developer. I better tell my boss to get rid of me.
I have tattoos, wear hoddies, have long hair and guess what? I neither drink or do drugs and have been with the same girl for 17 years since high school. Oh and I teach kids.
Besides, it was clean cut guys in business suits that ruined this country.
jerri-1.....I sincerely hope you never need the assistance of anyone, ever. As far as your 'comment' about "tattooed bikers" - I am one of those 'tattooed bikers' that you so blithely and ignorantly speak about.
I'd leave my children with my friends any day of the week - they are 'tattooed bikers' as well. Would you like to hear an interesting story? A couple of years ago, my husband and I were at a local bike night hang out...and I accidentally left my wallet on the seat of my bike. When I returned a couple of hours later, it was still there, untouched. Want to take a guess who approached me and told me that they noticed it, but didn't know who it belonged to, so they decided to stay and make sure no one stole it? One of the local 1% club members.
I think you really need to take a good, hard look at yourself, and take the time to reevaluate the yardstick by which you measure those around you....because you could end up with a knife in your back - thanks to your local do gooder banker or politician (all un-inked, and probably with very clear complexions..and consciences).
hey Jeckunev You frighten me way more than this lady, she isn't hiding anything, any time, now you, you armchair csi-profiling wanna-be, how much kiddie porn you got stashed in your closet....AAAARRRRGGGHHH Who gave you the right. Oh and what branch of law enforcement do you work? I'll say small town cop....Just let me know see how close I am...
you know how to tell if someone is a "loser"? Look at the kindness in their hearts in regaurds to what counts, how they treat other people. Like someone who cant look past something to see the person inside. they judge by look, by actions, by job, stauts, its always at least 1 thing about someone that just doesnt set right. Most the time its appearance. People are people, remember that. it doesnt matter how they dress, or the amount of $$ they have, or dont have. If you cant see past that... you are a loser.
Hay JACK Next time YOU are in NEED.. Go find one of your SOCIALITE pals to pick your bleeding ass up off the street and save your worthless Bigoted Life.. MORON
I see this as a statement against meaningless money play for the wealthy masquerading as art, although all of the conformist bores in our midst would not agree. I'm actually glad that there are people focusing on the fact that this person has tattoos, pockmarks and... a hoodie?!! Taken together or alone, how does "a hoodie" have any effect on the other two? Lol, that's classic. Anyway, I just want to say Thank You to all the superficial, materialistic, pathetically mainstream losers for wearing their stupidity on their sleeves. It reminds me how much it must suck to be you.
Mo nig, you completely contradict your entire trolling comment in the last line where you write: "people such as her".
The negativity associated with "hoodies" (which have been around forever, previously referred to as "hooded sweatshirts") comes from gangs of soccer "hooligans" in the UK and I suggest the rest of us not take it seriously, or at least take it only as seriously as we take any of the other nonsense from "across the pond".
Jeckunev: I'm 44, tattooed, pierced, don't drink, own a business in Estes Park, never went to jail, never had trouble with law, and donate time to charity causes.
Didn't Ted Bundy look like a nice clean decent man, not to mention .. he was an attorney???
No, he was law student who represented himself. The judge even told him had he not been before him as the accused he would have loved to have him before him as a lawyer.
I'm 30, have several visible tattoos, piercings, hoodies, and grew up in a trailer park living on welfare oh and I'm pagan if you want to attack that. Funny that I'm automatically a loser because of it. I thought that working at a law firm, owning my own folk-art business, donations to charity, lack of drug addiction and lack of a jail record meant that I was a good person. Sure she should not go to an art gallery drunk and act like an idiot but at least she didn't kill anyone. Its a painting, as an artist myself I say who cares? The museum didn't seem to since no one was there to stop her. Thousands of people need jobs these days. Maybe they should bulk up on security.
Diagnosis? What are you, a psychiatrist? I'm so glad our society has people like you just "diagnosing" everyone who does something stupid when they're drunk or who doesn't look like they were cast members of the Brady Bunch. You're telling me you've never gotten drunk and done something ridiculous? Please. Good thing she's white because otherwise I'm sure you would have treated all of us to yet another bigoted stereotype. And FYI, people who's lives are "addled" with drugs and alcohol are not "lowlife losers". They're human beings who are SUFFERING enormously. Educate yourself before making comments like that because people who ARE educated will read it and expose your ignorance.
Another reason to keep this kind of art out the reach of the American public. The low lifes will always do their best to destroy art. She's trash that should be behind bars for public safety reasons.
"Another reason to keep this kind of art out of the reach of the American public."
YEAH! We should be able to smash statues like The Pieta instead! Once again Americans get cheated. (thats joking sarcasm, folks, in case you don't recognize it)
So what else should be behind bars? So far we have artwork and those that would destroy it. Kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it? ;>)
Perhaps she was criticizing both the artwork and the security of the museum - most responsible museums with artworks this valuable would have a method to either:
1.) Make it difficult to lash out at a valuable artwork, or
2.) Respond physically within about 3/4 of a second when an alarm sounds.
Of course then doing all the things you say treats us all like the same type of person she is. Also do you think a magic fairy will come and pay to have high tech security- be realistic the cost would be moved to the public. Then the price of admission will make the art cost prohibitive to many people. WHY CAN'T PEOPLE BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS drunk, drugged up, or stupid. I think they need to make an example out of her. Now her little funny temper fit will cost us all money..... room & board & free meals at the jail, legal representation & prosecution probably mental or substance abuse treatment. I guess I better go to work so I can pay my taxes to help her out.
My question is what in the heck is someone like *that* doing in an art gallery in the first place?? Where did the city set this thing up? The local "Red Light District"?? Was it free beer night? Some kind of singing frog on display? I gotta tell ya, if she's a slice of the demographic this type of art brings in, no thanks!
Said like a 1% snob! Anyone and everyone, regardless of income or upbringing, can have an appreciation for art ( which is a loose umbrella phrase for any creative work ). I suppose you think only people who make over a million a year, arrive in a limo wearing $1000 clothes should be let in?
You're a C**t! For all anybody knows she has some rich parents that allow their child to "express" themselves and she's been going to art school for the last 10 years. People with MONEY act like this, not people that had to EARN a living, you REPUBLICAN F**k! I can't stand people that judge others by appearances.
Sad thing is that people who vandalize anything are really saying something about themselves... and it's pretty much all about hate. I don't think I would want to feel the way she feels about herself.
Maybe she is making a statement but who knows what it is since it was drugs or alcohol doing the talking. This could have been anything, not just a painting. It was simply the thing that got the most attention at that moment.
Expressionist painting HUH? Well she probably made it look better. Leave her alone--Freedom of Expression! That lame artist threw paint from 100 yards away at a canvas, called it art, so too did this lady. How come this marvelous painting is not shown? That bad HUH?
When you have to ask what is that? or what is the meaning of this? then we differ on what is art. I agree with keith hinkel-1766225. Its just my oppinion. I was at an art musean and seen a large wall painting it looked like someone just used a roller brush to paint lines on the painting. I could do that. Any child can do that. If that is art why can't I get someone to pay for a picture like that from me?
Isn't that for the best? Especially when it comes to trying to appreciate expressionism? If you have to explain or justify it then you you're trying too hard.
MFA's aren't built just for art majors and struggling (usually) artists. If you HAVE to "know about art" to appreciate it maybe it's more of a social puzzle, or sometimes even ultimately dry humor, than it is art. Maybe the joke is on you for being too serious about such a thing in a complex universe with much to appreciate.
Society gets to judge what we see as art or taste as tasty - it's not to be judged exclusively by self proclaimed experts alone or fat cats who elevate it's worth through bidding it up (it's a lot about money & egos). Don't kid yourself - declaring it's worth as $30M vs $2 is what draws in crowds - especially self declared art experts & art snobs.
I looked at this guys paintings, they are trash, and should be used for wipping your a$$. How in the world they can say this crap is worth so much money is beyound me, I think a 4 year old could paint stuff like this, or a monkey. What a waste of tax payer money buying this trash and setting up a museum. I think what this woman did should be protected as "free speach".
joe t.-1178631 .....I couldn't agree with you more....When I read this story, I had to see what all the fuss was about. How on earth they can say that #$%^# is worth 30 million is beyond me....it's ugly as hell. If she had some paint on her ass she might have made a slight improvement. Abstract Art. huh? I think I've finally found my calling.....LMFAO
It doesn't matter what you or anyone thinks of the painting. That's subjective, and if someone wants to value it at 30 million, good for the artist. I don't see how this is an excuse to deface someone's work.
Taxpayer money? Sounds like it was privately funded to me. Learn to read the entire article people.
"Still died in 1980, and the city of Denver worked for years with his widow, Patricia, to secure the single-artist museum. She died in 2005, and her husband's collection was bequeathed to the city.
Four of Still's works were auctioned by Sotheby's last year for $114 million to endow the Denver museum, which opened with much fanfare in November".
She and you are two of a kind -- ignorant and common. You do not understand the value of art or value it, just as you don't understand the value of the contributions of many of the people to society. You live in envy and hatred of wealth. People like you are transferring your hatred of wealth to a hatred of anything of value. Give her the death sentence -- she is worth far less than the painting that she chose to vandalize.
I have always thought and still think still that these over priced works of not very good art are just an avenue for money laundering, tax evasion and later on insurance scams when they are "stolen or burned".
Yes I know art is in the eye of the beholder, but the price tag is a bloated artificialy inflated sum that is created by thoses who could give two s*%t's about art.
I think I had a cysteine once on my butt. The doctor was able to get rid of it. And if you don't care for the new Glade plug ins called Renascence, don't bash everyone who does ok? Thanks!
The price tag of anything is a "bloated artificialy(sic) inflated sum created by thoses(sic) who could ....".
The price of anything is set when two parties agree on a transaction. I saw bananas at the convenience store for 89-cents each - are they 'worth' that price? If someone buys one, then yes - at that time and place, between that buyer and that seller, that particular piece of fruit was 'worth' 89-cents. And if someone is/was willing to fork over $30M for that painting and someone accepted it, that nails the value. As with any item or service, past value is no guarantee of future value.
And wtf is a 'cysteine chapel'? Did you intend to reference the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican? Just click on that little abc thing, or right click on the words with squiggly red lines beneath them.
Fine art also gives people an excuse to keep people out of the "inner circle", to be hurtful and cruel, and to label and stereotype. (Gary Root, I hope you are reading this!)
Everyone sees things differently in art. I am so tired of these art snobs being critical when I do not see the same things in a painting than they do. Am I supposed to feel ignorant because I dont see a blessed thing in a $30M painting? Well I DON'T!
With the exception of a couple of Still's paintings (jamais or untitled 1948), I am only inspired to yawn.
She and you are two of a kind -- ignorant and common.
Bgolds, Gary Root, 12 isn't a very good comment. So critique it if you're going to respond to it, rather than attacking the commenter. You're each suspended for a week for violating #1 of the Code of Honor. Really bad recent histories.
THIS is national news? Drunken idiot does something stupid- whodathunkit? Where were her friends? She doesn't have any friends because she rubs her a$$ on their art work and then pees on their floors!!!
At least this woman has brought the infamy upon herself. There are so many people that are celebrities for being like Paris Hilton. This chick is probably gonna regret this move when she gets the bill, but she obviously was moved by the work...Perhaps this was the reaction the artist would have expected and that is why he kept it from the public.
I was at the Portland art museum. I walked into a room where they kept a sweet Van Gogh. It is called the "Oxcart". It is amazing. Anyhow...The security guard was standing in front of the painting admiring it. I walked up and asked..."when nobody else is around...Do you ever lick the painting?" He said "No!" I said..."Liar!" "I would lick a hole in this one...Its awesome..."
Of course I was laughing, and it was a joke...But they have a guard near me at all times now when I visit...LOL...Its okay...I would never even touch a painting in there...I am also an artist, and can totally understand this urge to touch a painting...But you must not! ;)
Although I often give people permission to lick mine at my shows...LOL
Granted the museum should have had that 'valuable' of a painting better protected, and granted that what she did was totally wrong, but even so, how in the world could people just knowing that it happened reduce the value? That makes no sense at all. Does that mean a painting in Germany during WWII no longer has the same value because it was touched by Nazis?
When any item has been damaged and repaired, ethical owners will disclose that when trying to sell the item. Anyone buying a painting this valuable would have it examined by an expert who could easily spot a repair, even if it's a good one.
She did not just touch it - she punched it and did damage that will cost $10,000 to repair/restore. The loss of value cannot be known until the painting sells (which may be never, as it is part of a museum's permanent collection.) For an artwork that will never be sold, you could say that the value is zero (or infinity.) Either would be as accurate as the last sale price, or the sale price of "comparable items". Value is set when a sale occurs - everything else is an estimate.
Yet Another News Reader- I don't put a painting in my mouth, and gross as it is, buttocks are just skin like hands and elbows and cheeks.
Mailman- I understand that the punching and scratching could very likely cause damage, but the article implies that the buttock-rubbing was what caused the value reduction.
I have often felt like rubbing my bum on abstract expressionist paintings but never actually did it. It really is not worth 30 million in my opinion and yes, I in fact have a fine art degree. That being said I do respect others property unlike this women.
The true art is not in the production of the painting. It is convincing people who have millions of dollars that the painting is valuable. Often it is not the artist who does this - it can be dealers, friends of the artist, critics, teachers, appraisers, editors, curators, crazy buyers, publicists, etc.
It would set a horrible precedent, but I think someone could spin this as "interacting" with the art; arguing that it was the intent of the original artist. The poorly protected art is evidence of an invitation to interact with it. If I was her defense attorney, that is what I would try. Hey, she is guilty anyway, why not be creative in her defense?
oh she will be famous and rich--- for what she did - was real art--- it has been done many times before..... she is already famous for this stunt-- now it will be easy for her to become a renowned artist-- a master of masters---- Rembrandt, and the others watch out--- a real artist has arrived!!!!
I guess that's why she's smirking in her mug shot. She can hang the mugshot on the wall to remember her 15 seconds of fame for being a lunatic low life. At least the painter created something that harmed no one else for his own enjoyment. He didn't seek out the public eye. Many of his paintings weren't even seen till after he died. He didn't paint to please anyone but himself. I think the colors are beautiful. I don't prefer that painting but I see beauty in it. I find it way more attractive than someone so desperate for attention that they pee on the floor and deface what they can't understand.
It surprises me that people seem to want to blame the painting or the museum for not taking greater care of it. Before too many people started acting like wild pigs(nothing against the pigs), the Vatican and other museums allowed visitors to get very close to great works of art. There si no excuse for this behavior.
You do not think it is worth 30 million. Someone did. It is not my style, but I can appreciate it. If you can produce a 30 million painting and find a buyer, do it. But because it is not in your taste is not a valid reason to attempt to harm it in any way. I may not like your painting; I should deface it?
The price of art always skyrockets in a trickle down economy. That's why this peice is sooo pricey. The people who collect "art" get into bidding wars with all the extra money they have by not paying taxes. Still she needs to pay for the damage and maybe so rehab too.
Wow, I'd like to hire this person!!! --- NOT! Good luck to her finding employment in anywhere other than "International House of Crystal Meth".
At least she didn't pee on the painting, we all have to give her kudos for that LOL! I wonder (in her drunken/disturbed stupor) what she had against this particular piece of art - i.e., why she chose this one, as opposed to something else.
They wondered where her friends were? Who'd think she had any? "I'm a bitter person so I'll try and ruin this painting other people get joy from looking at!" Some bitter people find it easier to try to trash beautiful things than do some themselves. Forget her appearance on the outside, that matters a lot less than the inside, a lot of people are good people inside, but inside her heart she must be ugly to the bone!
she looks like a loser...and her tats are ugly!
The painting is even uglier... I'm certain she improved it.
http://blog.mountainliving.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/USE-1957-J-No-2-PH-401-Harholdt.jpg
Good point, Chris. Maybe she thought she could improve it.
Crap, masquerading as art.
Anyone that would drop 30 million dollars and that POS is a POS.
Thanks Chris for the post. YIKES~
Amazing art -- people who look at this and don't see the talent are ignorant asses. She probably is one of those 99% crowd that resents anything of value that they don't understand.
Common Gary. It works both ways. Some of those 1%ers would buy it JUST BECAUSE it cost millions. "I don't know what art is, but I know what I like".
As Andre Emmerich used to say, "When someone says I know what I like, they
are really saying I like what I know !"
Gary Root
The Mona Lisa needed talent to create I can throw paint at a canvas How can I sell my pictures to these museums if I "create" this art?
Looking at that painting, was that a before- or after-shot? How can anyone tell if it's been damaged?
No, you really have to wonder where her mind was.
Everyone is an art critic these days.
Gary Root:
How amazing you should show up among all us writers.
Talk about art, those tats of hers are not great art, just a stupid fad. When she sobers up she may regret what she did.
A new medium: Ass on canvas.
Gary Root,
I am also an artist, but to call people that do not see the talent in that painting (which I do NOT) ignorant asses is very ignorant of you! So many artists have talent, but THAT "painting" a monkey (hell, even an elephant) could do, which was proven a couple of years ago. I am sure same people see it as "great" art as you do, that is no reason to call people of different opinion names!
LMAO.. Now this is entertainment. I tip my hat to the lady. That is one ugly "art"
Someone should paint a picture of the woman what a lovely duplicate" Maybe the painting looked like her mother..
Lusitania, that is priceless. :)
Gary Root, by 99% are you referring to the percentage of people who look at your work and immediately ask why you chose a toilet paper canvas?
Gary Root-You have artfully shown us there is more than one ass in this story.
(The artist from the grave rolls over to say...)
Can't judge a book by it's cover? In her case I can.
I hope she gets the jail time she deserves.
How do we know she's not an artist herself and was trying to add her butt print to this painting as a form of self expression?
Personally I think she's an art critic with strong gut instincts.
Mistook it for the privy did she! she just ran up the value.
Some one paid her to do it.
Looks like a pet monkey painted that, and its worth 30 million, are these people high on drugs or what?
Maybe, just maybe if I ate enough halucinogenics that painting mught look like something, or maybe your senses are supposed to cross so you and hear or taste the colors... Hmmmm where is my damn Ergot????
I hope she didn't get any "Santorum" on it! (Google it if that doesn't make sense)
awwww, c'mon, just give her some water colors and a paintbrush and make he paint another one.
Really classy. Really. Please tell me shes not somebody's mother.
LHerAO
hieveryone
wondering if you look any better in person along with a lot of others.....
Rick, lol! Good point.
Olias
Actually you couldn't. But believe that you could, it might make you feel better about yourself.
I fail to see how all of you unwashed , unsophisticated rabble cannot understand this
Justathought
"Really classy. Really. Please tell me shes not somebody's mother."
Unfortunately, she is someones daughter and maybe someones sister......
Glad she isn't mine........
I would tend to suspect she was "Occupying" the museum.
thirty Million! I'd make them a much better painting for 1/10th the price!
Can someone tell me where the skid marks end and the art starts?
-and they honestly think this piece of crap is worth 30 mil.
http://msnbcmedia3.msn.com/j/MSNBC/Components/Photo/_new/120105-clyfford-still-painting-631a.grid-6x2.jpg
Give me an effen break. This is someone on drugs that did this piece of art, if you can call it art.
This woman seems to be disturbed, any one who is mentally stable and in control of their impulses wouldn't act in such an inappropriate manner. While the rest of you debate the quality of art you do not understand perhaps you should wonder about why this woman acted the way she did.
Most importantly, the NEA wants the money it paid this lady back.
They don't pay for rubbing your butt on just anything - only crosses.
Who would of thought that looking at a piece of abstract art would drive someone insane?
Who would pay 30 million for that?
WOW a crazy looking b!tch rubs her @ss on what can only be called zoo created art and somehow that brings out comments about Occupy, Obama, and Bush. I guess we truly did get the government we deserved.
appears to be a case of; CAT SCRATCH FEVER !!!...
I agree, mary - THAT is worth $30 million?! Somebody give me a paintbrush!! Hell, somebody give my 2 yr old a paintbrush!! $30 million piece of art comin' right up...
scratch and sniff art...she increased the value...the painting is now called stinky's drunk wipe...
She should have the same buttocks caned as her punishment.
The painting stinks.
the painting was 30 million.....the story is priceless...
plain bob....That was Great !!!...."scratch-n-sniff" indeed !!!
I painted an old dresser a few weeks ago....my drop cloth looks just like the Painting....Am I Rich ???....Where do I take it ???
what is art ...without an aroma...
I do not know if anyone asked but.....
20,000 bail
10,000 in damages
Explain that math for me?
30 million my @$$, this is a case of insurance fraud.
redplanet-2690269.....
I'm guessing it was close to the floor cause the artsy-fartsy snob crowd walks around with their heads tilted way back so they can look down there noses at the little people....
@Arieus: "and they honestly think this piece of crap is worth 30 mil."
I know but......you just need to sell one painting!!!
Of course it's worth 30mil..... Now that the court, lawyers and insurance companies are involved.
she was just assessing this fine work of art and got pissed off...man...is she a walking warning against tattooing or what?
I'm just thinking its a good thing she didn't have to go no. 2.
Is the 30 million price tag on this painting negotiable?
Sorry someones already done a painting of Obama
can...v...ass
bonos -rama -
She isn't a Tea Party member or a Christian.
She is a fuly funded artist that the NEA paid our tax money to.
They should have been much more clear to this woman that they only pay artists to wipe their butts on crosses.
The butt was exposed to an inanimate object instead of the passing crowd, that is the problem.
How's that for interpretation?
Just sayin'...
I wonder if she would look like a "loser" if she didn't have tattoos. That isn't what makes a person a loser, judging a person by appearance does.
What did this ugly, overpriced painting ever do to her?
Perfect, another loony. Either off her meds or she is indulging a bit too much. Either way, just another loony. Just what the world needs.
"woman punches, rubs her buttocks..."
that's a woman???...I am from Missouri on that claim..."show me"
Donkey...her only "excuse" is stupidity...and does the bonehead Fiesty Redneck know you stole her avatar?...your in trouble now...
bobos..."rightie"?...you have mixed up your "cultures" , the doofus looks like every OWS fleabagger that was shown on tv...nice try but failz
If the painting didn't stink before it does now" "
WOW! I should have saved all of those greasy, oil-soaked rags from my repair shop and sold them as "art".
I, too, could have opened a gallery.
Paintings worth that much are usually out of reach of the public. The museum should be held responsible for not taking better care of artworks.
Absolutely! Don't hold the perpetrator of the act of vandalism responsible. Hold the institution responsible. Good thinking. Here's your sign.
How do you know that she lives in a trailer?
Pietro: She is responsible for her actions. Typical liberal horse manure. Everything is someone else's fault. No personal responsibility.
RE: #2.6
PittDeacon,
You seem to feel an air of superiority by labeling anyone from the OWS protests as being a person who's trying to destroy culture.
I love how people can turn anything into a political argument.
Too bad she didn't shoot the painting, that would've been great to read about / read following responses.
Why didn't Jesus intervene? I blame lack of divine intervention.
*laugh*
Illumination: Most protestors of tyranny when our country was founded,
didn't go around defecating on other peoples property on purpose. The majority of ows are foul smelling, dirty litterers who leave their mark of vandalism wherever they occupy.
However, this vine isn't about that. It's about some poc woman who has a total disregard for her body and her surroundings.
"Illumination: Most protestors of tyranny when our country was founded,
didn't go around defecating on other peoples property on purpose."
Uh...by definition & intention the tea party (the real one) was an act of vandalism used as a form of protest & objection - and it got noticed (not just here in Boston). Just sayin' - it's an iconic part of our history.
Yes, we digress...
the most interesting aspect for this story is the lack of security surrounding a thirty million dollar painting. additionally, like another writer, i wonder how did she get her ass onto the painting. why was the painting within ass reach.
As far as the story goes, what a nasty woman.
she obviously did not see value in it, its terribly off balance, two of the five blotches of color esp the yellow don't fit, but that's just me I never appreciated abstract art, always thought it was a excuse for no talent, worth millions that's hard to believe.
When she passes on how much do you think her hide will be worth? might make a good lamp shade! straech it out on the wall with a sign saying don't let this happen to you.
RE: #2.17
JQ 12261891,
I would also end entitlements such as corporate welfare.
PittDeacon
Ferrosynthesis;
JQ ..
Being one of those Hippeis from the 60's . I can say.
You don't care.. Therfore.. YOU don't matter..
Come back after you have reached pubesence and joine the discussion...
Why is a painting worth 30mil when we degrade our people to nothing?
eyesopen
I request you show me an educated person that is out rubbing their buttocks up against paintings in a museum.
Class Warfare has nothing to do with the comments. Stupid is as stupid does.
The fact she is ass ugly has nothing to do with anything except she is ass ugly.
Well Ryan's a Texan.....where know where that got us!!
Ah Like George Bush (Or Rick Perry) He's as dumb as I am!
You anti-intellectual anti-art anti-people jerks are really starting to make me sick. I don't know why I waste my time with the rest of you losers!
At least "Count Skankula" left the pit bull back at the trailer park to guard her generic beer and cigarettes.
I bet she doesn't pay her rent on time.
Probably blocks the trailer door with a car hood toward the end of every month.
she is so hot to trot. i'll bet she smells like cookies when her pants are on
Doug: Way off topic. To boot you are very wrong.
MAY-BE , She was just pissed that 30 mil went towards this, "ART" instead of helping to feed 30 mil starving people.. or starting a businness that would employ a few hundred Others.. I AM..
Doug;
Its because of people like you that we need Republicans. See the end item that says ABC with a check above, try it.
Not all people who live in trailers are trash. I myself do not live in one but when I was younger and had a lower paying job, starting out on my own, could not afford anything more, I did live in one. I am not trash.
Janine,
if you haven't noticed: this article is about ART and BUTTOCKS, NOT abortion! Take your agenda were the sun don't shine.
Yes, but DougCoe22201 started it with a cheap political smear in #3.5:
Don't politi-troll. DougCoe22201, you're suspended for a day for violating #4 and #5 of the Code of Honor.
While I do wonder why on earth this painting was not kept out of immediate reach from the public, it's still no excuse for a member of the public to act like a lowlife idiot. She's entirely responsible for her actions as far as I am concerned.
Act like a lowlife idiot? She IS a lowlife idiot. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to tolerate her kind.
Good point. She IS a lowlife idiot. However, why should anyone tolerate the behavior of a lowlife idiot, or make excuses for it? Tattoos and booze do not a lowlife make. It's how one acts that does it, and if we continually excuse it, her type will continue to abuse it.
LOL.
"Tattoos and booze" are actions. And yes, the two taken to excess indicate a lowlife more often than not.
Sad....
"Tatoos certainly do not make a person a Low Life"
Or at least not a fair judge of art/style....course when it's a tattoo on the face we call that crazy only proving we all have thresholds and make judgements of what's going on under the hood.
they will be footing the bill to fix it
No they won't. It is insured.
Dont think the person collecting your $ isnt getting paid? lol.
@ JK from PA
Just remember, there are other people out there that live a "frugal" lifestyle for more reasons than you might think.
... just call me "Officer Lowlife-Wannabee"
Justda,
hear, hear, I'm still amazed at some of these people's prejudice. Really jealous I'm not that perfect- NOT! (I have to get me that flatscreen and the 4g though, got the bacon and beer ;-))
Guess who pays where the insurance company gets their money
From the premiums that the insured pay. The post I responded to implied the tax payers will cover the cost. Snarky replies get you put on ignore.
Seeing her mugshot, it doesn't surprise me. Pockmarks, hoodie, tattoos... none of those on their own is anything bad, but all together it reveals a lot about a person. The fact she's 30-something isn't helping her case either...
Diagnosis? Drug and alcohol addled lowlife loser.
Right.
I know when I'm out walking at night, I remind myself not to stereotype people, so I'm just as happy walking among a group of drugged-up, tattooed bikers as a group of well-dressed, middle-aged persons coming out of a theater.
I bet you are, too.
jerri-1...reading is fundamental...the OP said 'pockmarks, hoodie, tattoos'...didn't mention 'drugged up'...so your disagreement with mo nig isn't based on what was said, but on...I don't know...what you made up?
Jerckunev,
I have pockmarks, adult acne, tattoos and wear hoodies (and 55 years old), I guess that whould make me even more of a "loser"? You need to get of your high horse and get a life. BTW I know a lot of people with pockmarks, tattoos that wear hoodies that are very productive members of society and NOT as judgemental as you. It is her actions that make her a LOSER, not her LOOKS.
mo nig- That name you chose says a lot about you.
Keep trying, cdwf. You'll get that reading comprehension badge eventually.
Or not.
Didn't her twin brother just murder a park ranger in Utah this week? Profiling...it works!
Where's your stereotype now?
Kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it? ;>)
We should be able to smash statues like The Pieta instead!
You just triggered a fond memory with that comment. I was lucky enough to get to see and actually touch The Pieta before it got damaged.
Actually this "painting" looks like an animal painted it, I have seen better from my 5 year old. Either way what a freak !
Someone who punches and rubs her butt on a painting has friends?
They help her keep her crack pipe warm.
My thoughts exactly. If I had to have friends like that, I wouldn't have any at all.
Exactly what I was thinking when I read that. And person who made the comment is SPOKESWOMAN for the Denver DA's office! Yikes!
Well, she's creative.
Ironic that some artwork is actually painted with body parts. Maybe she was practicing her strokes.
She is just a very severe critic.
I am more surprised the place let in a drunk person. Drunk folks tend to destroy stuff(accidently or on purpose)than sober folks.
Bob.. Your saying... only, "Sober", people should be let in to museums...
If that were the case, the "ART", in reference, would have been in the dumpster where it belongs, in stead of Hanging on a wall..
You would have to be on drugs, or In Drunken Oblivion to pay 30 mil. for ,THAT.
This gets my vote for weird story of the day.
Expressionist painting HUH? Well she probably made it look better. Leave her alone--Freedom of Expression! That lame artist threw paint from 100 yards away at a canvas, called it art, so too did this lady. How come this marvelous painting is not shown? That bad HUH?
You know nothing about art.
Whoknows,
with you on that
Keith, click on the link in #1.1 to see it.
"You know nothing about art."
Hey stupid,
There was no taxpayer money involved. This was all from the wonderful 'free market' you're always babbling about.
Now you can give a little 'speach' about what you learned today.
Friggin' dope.
joe t.-1178631 .....I couldn't agree with you more....When I read this story, I had to see what all the fuss was about. How on earth they can say that #$%^# is worth 30 million is beyond me....it's ugly as hell. If she had some paint on her ass she might have made a slight improvement. Abstract Art. huh? I think I've finally found my calling.....LMFAO
Hey stupid,
There was no taxpayer money involved. This was all from the wonderful 'free market' you're always babbling about.
There. I just doubled your IQ.
To think the Renascence has the cysteine chapel and we have this "art".
To think that people used to have less than two spelling mistakes per sentence.
Cameron High-- hit the nail right on the head!
Gary Root,
=inflated ego? Well, I guess that DOES make you an artist.
I think I had a cysteine once on my butt
Cysteine - An amino acid one of the 20 building blocks of protein. Cysteine can be synthesized by the body and is not essential to the diet.
Cyst - An abnormal, closed sac-like structure within a tissue that contains a liquid, gaseous, or semisolid substance.
I just thought you should know the difference.
What about the air freshener though? Could you unpack that one for me also? Thanks for the remedial biology lesson!
Hey stupid,
She and you are two of a kind -- ignorant and common.
Some people will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame... Eww.
Peace
Ms. Tisch sounds and looks like another nut case headed for Pueblo.
As for the painting, while I detest vandalism, the estate, the curator, and the city should all be charged with gross misapropriation of public funds.
No public funds were involved.
"the city should all be charged with gross misapropriation of public funds."
Public funds? Reading & spelling is fundimental....especially before pointing fingers & calling for charges. Shame!
Reading and spelling is "fundimental"... lol. @!$%#ing tard.
A nurse who's only contribution is to call some a "tard"...what a sweet-heart.
This is newsworthy?
Granted the museum should have had that 'valuable' of a painting better protected, and granted that what she did was totally wrong, but even so, how in the world could people just knowing that it happened reduce the value? That makes no sense at all. Does that mean a painting in Germany during WWII no longer has the same value because it was touched by Nazis?
Let me put it in context for you. If she rubbed her butt on your toothbrush, would it still be worth as much to you?
You don't need an Art Degree to produce crap.....30 million dollar crap.....I've finally found my true calling.......lol
I agree Sad...That is a great defense strategy...You should be her rep...Pro-bono of course...She has a big enough bill already...LOL
oh she will be famous and rich--- for what she did - was real art--- it has been done many times before..... she is already famous for this stunt-- now it will be easy for her to become a renowned artist-- a master of masters---- Rembrandt, and the others watch out--- a real artist has arrived!!!!
I find it way more attractive than someone so desperate for attention that they pee on the floor and deface what they can't understand.
how dumb is this. id be surprised if the woman has the resources to pay to fix the parinting
People who think like you are responsible for this act of vandalism.
No Gary, a drunk and possibly disturbed woman is the ONLY one "responsible for this act of vandalism". Time to get off your high horse.
She brings an all new meaning to the term "art critic."
And "Fartwork"
And what's really strange is, she looks like someone who otherwise makes really good decisions.
Probably somewhere not far away encouraging her maybe?
It's a horrible painting, but attacking it isn't going to help. There is no excuse for her behavior, or that painting IMHO.
They wanted to know where her friends were! HA! Maybe she is a dumbass and has no friends... that is why she showed her butt!!
Interesting trick. If she urinated on the painting, she must have been laying on the floor.
Lying.
Man! You don't have to call teascum a lyer!
some women can urinate standing up.
Men however cannot urinate "standing up". If we have to push down too hard, it causes "levitation".
I recommend going outside if you have to pee "standing up". Making Golden Arches rules!
Koolyouth..
And You Know this ... HOW ????
A.m. Lumberjack.
Not a bad looking psycho.
The bimbo or the abstract?
JK,
Thanks for the chuckle
Wow, I'd like to hire this person!!! --- NOT! Good luck to her finding employment in anywhere other than "International House of Crystal Meth".
At least she didn't pee on the painting, we all have to give her kudos for that LOL! I wonder (in her drunken/disturbed stupor) what she had against this particular piece of art - i.e., why she chose this one, as opposed to something else.
Makes me wonder why this woman even set foot in an art museum.
makes me wonder if this woman ever fart painted in a art museum...
She is a part of the OWS movement, she was just trying to get even with the 1%.
perhaps she can do this routinely...and call it performance art...?
