Why can't these people just take their own life instead of taking others first? Well at least we don't have to house the shooter for the rest of his life. Too bad about the young officer and his family. Hopefully his family can find some peace, somehow.

Were it not for guns, this family would have had peace. Gun freaks keep pimping those lines about an armed citizenry but I don't care. Guns rip more families apart than they ever benefit. More guns as an answer is the same as more poison will cure poison. Had the shills for the NRA not bought so much power we'd have low gun deaths, as does Europe.

Alan John Sylte Jr. was an active duty soldier and you don't think he should have had a gun? This is exactly the kind of crappy thinking which is why the USA hasn't won a single war since WWII.
America is now the land of the disarmed soldier. We can't even shoot Osama Bin Laden in the head without some jackass wanting to investigate if it was a fair and equitable confrontation following all the rules.
This creep Alan John Sylte Jr. sent a 17-year-old girl (eight years younger than himself) 282 text messages over one weekend? That just screams "psychopath". Sylte was AWOL from the National Guard, he was an obvious pedophile, and your problem with this creep is that he had a gun? Like a gun ban would make him OKAY??
I mean, after all, a disarmed AWOL pedophile bastard is a VAST improvement over an armed AWOL pedophile bastard, right?
I don't envy cops their jobs at all. They have to deal with creeps like Sylte and do it while being politically correct at the cost of their own lives. The military should have caught this creep before it ever got to this point of a domestic disturbance.
To protect and serve, that is the oath these civil servants take when they accept the responsibility and put on the uniform. Where is the responsibility of the citizen when life is not going their way? It lies within oneself and not in picking up a weapon and using it against those who are there to help. May this young officer's family find some measure of peace in their time of grief. Please know how much your husband/father/son was appreciated. May he rest in peace.
Condolences and prayers go to his family and friends.
Review the policies for answering the domestic violent calls, even potential ones, and the policemen have to take them serious. They have changed to like answering the call of the domestic terrorists attacks.
It means that the policemen use the bullhorn to ask the husband or the suspect get out the house with both hands up or the swat team goes in to get him.
The environment has changed. The policemen got killed by the simple domestic violent calls have become deadly to which this is not the first time. In my area, just this year, we had at least one policeman got killed in one domestic violent calls in one incident and the other one got injured in another incident.
For any domestic violent call, policemen, at least two, ask the suspect to step out the house with both hands up and talk to the suspect. Then after the talking to the suspect, just put the suspect in handcuff and then the policemen can go in to talk to the other party. Then they can all go to the police station for further investigation.
If the suspect refuses to step out with both hand up, get swat team. The policemen cannot go in.
May this office rest in peace and thank you for serving our community. May his family find comfort in knowing we the citizens do care!
282 text messages? He could have saved more time with a phone call to say all that.
Texting is for losers. Man up and talk face to face or on the phone. Hiding behind texts is a huge problem and does nothing to make a person more productive. Useless technology that is damaging our society.
This shows you how human emotions good and bad really rule the earth..Everytime I hear bloggers who interject "head rag wearers", "Ghetto People", Wops, Spics, etc, to reason why the world is the way it is I laugh. Here are two young men, both serving to protect human rights and life, and this kind of tradegy comes up. We can argue any of the catch phrases, but no one knows why the human race's nature is so crule and violent. All of the bigots, right wing, and iberals, Democrats or Republications..we all are subject to losing sight of the truth and justices...Excuses..Two young men's lives ended over ?...Just like the young men in the cities killing each other over ? Human existence and our society's problems belong to us all and we all contribute to the problems..We much now be all a part of the solution
So many people that kill others are turning the weapon on themselves in stories lately that I wonder if the consequences were so bleak for their crime that they opted to choose death for themselves why did they do it in the first place. More laws don't seem to be the answer. hmmm
My deepest regrets to this officer's family, friends and department! Its odd that movie stars, atheletes and many others are paid millions of dollars to entertain us but to those people, police, firemen, paramedics, teachers and others, that are there to protect us or help us in our time of need, we pay them pitifully small wages! We seem to place more importance on being entertained rather than being kept safe. These men and women put their lives on the line everyday for us and its hard for them to support themselves and their families!
Domestic calls are the most dangerous type of call there is. So many fine officers have been killed as a result of answering this type call. I wonder when the people of this country will examine their priorities and make the determination that protection and our kids being taught properly in school is much more important than entertainment!
It is a shame that this officer was killed because an idiot couldn't take no for an answer! Red
Not so sure that their wages are "pitifully small". Matter of fact, when pensions, health care, overtime and retirement age is added in (on top of wages received). They have a very good package coming before and after service.
Matter of fact - several municipalities are or have gone bankrupt trying to pay the promised packages these men and women have secured.
On top of that... the constant multi-million dollar settlements which cities encumber when defending the mistakes and outright misconduct of "some" (and increasing numbers) officers has caused some cities to disband both Police and fire department - outsource these services to counties.
If you want to talk about comparative salary inequities - ask your sons and daughters who are in our Armed forces what they make. Keep in mind that Soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and Coast guard do not "occasionally" face armed, trained and organized professional soldier ... its an everyday - Sunday through Sunday high alert job description.
I try to understand the unhealthy facination some people have with Police ... but I'm just not capable of understanding the "God like" worship some people have. Its a tough job... granted, but - they get to go home at the end of the most everyday. Soldiers are deployed for months, years at a time, facing constant questions of whether they are winning the "Hearts and minds" of entrenched enemies and subject to disgrace, rejection from their comrades if they get it wrong... just once!
The Thin Blue wall has nothing which approaches the Stretched and battered - fighting forces when it comes to being underpaid, over utilized and disrespected. Becoming a cop... is what old soldiers do when they retire.
I figure they need the vacation - they earned a rest...!
Here we go again - GUNS! Those should be banned! Most people who own weapons are unstable anyway! I wonder if the guy shot him or was he shot by "friendly fire". Just read another article about a pharmacy hold up and three "law enforcement" representatives with their guns stepped in to handle the situation. One agent is dead and no one knows who shot him. Well - I think it is obvious - it was friendly fire by his so called trained professional colleagues! They can't even point the damn gun in the right direction! Good Grief!

This is our country. We carry guns. Always have. There are many places in the world where people don't. Bye.

A 25 year old w/ a 17 year old girlfriend?
You know something is wrong with somebody if they can't find someone closer to their own age to date.
Takes 2 to tango - ... n'est-ce pas?
At least it was not a 12 - 13 year old and a 50 - 60 year old fart working on his polgamy obligations.
She had a right to make her mistakes, just as any other young person can in this country.
Rest in peace Officer.

The reason for Guns...
Some folks require additional effort to get their attention, more stimulation to bring them back to reality.
