The violence of the protesters has crushed tourism.
So a poor country is getting poorer by the day.
What the US media doesn't report is that most Egyptians want the protests to stop.
Only a tiny fraction of the people protest.
But they harm the entire economy.
What I really don't get is why after over 30 years, they can't wait until the elections that are in the near future.
But I'm probably just being too logical - protesters are usually emotion based. They are frequently full of people that can't function in society, and then end up on the bottom rung. These are often the people that seek for a Gov't that will take from those that have and give to those that don't have.
After all, when you can't make your life a success on your own work ethic or ability, you have a big incentive to steal the success of others using Gov't or simply through the direct criminal activity of theft.
It was no different in Nazi Germany where the people looked at all the possessions, property, and businesses that could be taken from the Jews and redistributed to the party loyal.
Same happened in Cuba, and really, nearly every revolution.
But the same thing always ends up happening eventually - you run out of other people's money to spend.
Every person has a right to a better life, that’s undeniable.
Unfortunately for Egypt, there are too many “dark forces” (beyond the borders) awaiting their chance to have a go at running the country, their way… ….and they will not let this chance slip away from them!!
Most of the time, peoples’ revolutions fail to deliver the desired outcomes….I fear this may be one of those revolutions!
Why dont this country mind its own business!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Obama supports the terroist group The Muslim Brotherhood of course. I hope all this meddling in Egypt backfires on our Government and this country. Hey!!! YOMAMA IN THE WHITE HOUSE WHY DONT YOU MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS AND WORRY ABOUT OUR PROBLEMS RIGHT HERE AT HOME.
Exactly there hasn't been a change in Egypt's government . The King used the military to hold power until Nassar and other military officers staged a coup. Nassar ruled as a president but it was his military in control. Sadat was the nexted military man to rule. When he was assassinated Mubarak another military man took over. The generals sacrificed Mubarak to keep control. Since the monarchy it has been Major General Naguib, Colonel Nasser, Colonel Sadat, Air Marshal Mubarak, and now General Omar Suleiman. Egypt's military had close ties and supported Nazi Germany and the Afrika Corp. Sadat's sister was the Shah of Iran's wife.
"Full transfer of power to a civilian government must take place in a just and inclusive manner that responds to the legitimate aspirations of the Egyptian people, as soon as possible,"
First, Obama undercuts a friendly government, and our best ally is put in jail, forcing our only remaining ally - the military, to take over. Now he undercuts the friendly military in favor of an uncertain civilian rule that will likely be anti-American.
The real new boss is going to come in soon riding out of the 7th century to impose the prophet's deeds ,acts and views upon Egypt and the Mid-east. Out of the pan and into the fire won't even begin to describe the new reality.
Why can not the US stay out of Middle east affairs. No matter what side we take, even the high moral road, we will always look like the Great Satan to them.
Ryan in Texas, Has Texas seceded yet? No? Then you must agree that it is still part of the U.S.A. The same U.S.A. that was born of revolution in 1776 (unless that too has been maliciously altered by partisan Texan writers of the nation's school books). Regardless, it is unseemly that any product of the most successful revolution in history would decry all revolutions in such a manner. The British Empire of that era would have been very proud of a colonist with such an opinion.
The American Revolution succeeded far beyond the wildest dreams of the revolutionists and the founding fathers. All of the revised history books in the world can never change that fact. We remain the inspiration of freedom loving people throughout the world to protest and revolt against governments that refuse to act in their best interest. Yet, we were not the first, nor will we be the last nation to be transformed into an effective government of a freedom loving people.
We are going through some very tough times as we speak. My best hope is that peaceful, but massive protest will provide the voice of common American citizens to bring about much needed change to our now corrupt system of government. I have witnessed success by such movements twice in my short lifetime. The first resulted in passing the Civil Rights Act. The second resulted in the end of an unjust Vietnam War. There were millions of naysayers and nasty comments by critics of the protesters then as there are now. The people prevailed before a second American revolution became a necessity. Democracy and freedom is a constant work in progress. The fat, lazy and content cowards among us would allow it to slip through our fingers as they strive to silence true patriots out of fear.
Many brave and proud Egyptian citizens stood tall to restore an ancient civilization to a nation of the people. Many have fought hard and some have made the ultimate sacrifice to better the lives of all of their brothers. We owe them our firm moral support. We owe them the stern voice of the most powerful nation on Earth to restrain the efforts of their suppressors to silence them forever.
Yes, they may fail. Yes, their valiant efforts could result in a charismatic, but devious leader that worsens their way of life. Those dark thoughts did not deter the French from assisting a young nation of revolutionists in 1776. They must not deter a much more powerful nation of revolutionists from assisting a struggling people fighting fiercely for their own independence today.
why dont you also tell us how ben franklin invented the lightbulb and edison took the first steps on the moon!! cause its about as correct as your logic.
so sit back and listen.
Texas is THE ONLY STATE IN THE UNION ALLOWED TO SECEDED CAUSE IT IS THE ONLY STATE THAT FOUGHT FOR ITS OWN INDEPENDENCE FROM MEXICO!!!!
but your liberial paritison state probable didnt want you to know that cause it would mean independent thought .
you might have heard of the ALAMO?
Davey Crocket?
Jim Bowie?
yea great americans that gave their life to fight for texas independence from Santana.
you know they made movies about the Alamo with, ohhhh i dont know, John Wayne!
so i dont know where you are from, but obviously they didnt teach you about american history correctly.
it is in the contract and the the US and in the texas constution, texans were granted things the other 49 states are not allowed.
the texas state flag is allowed to fly as high as the american flag.
texas actually owns its coast line. they have been wind farming in the gulf way before massachusetts.
so no, texas was still a blip in the eye of america during the revolution, you dim wit.
Next time you feel like spewing garbage, just do it on your self first! your liberial teaching has warped you fragile little mind.
You had my attention until " Texas is THE ONLY STATE IN THE UNION ALLOWED TO SECEDED".
I always knew that everything in Texas was bigger and better because it is the biggest state. Oops, sorry Alaska. I also heard that you don't mess with Texas because it's full of steers and kwiers. Never saw a kwier that I know of, but those Texas Longhorn steers are a sight to behold. They do have mighty impressive horns, but they look like they've been starved half to death or the buzzards have been at 'em since birth. How many of those bad boys do you have to butcher to have a decent backyard family barbecue?
Seriously, I lived in Galveston Beach for a short while when I was five years old. I have fond memories of beautiful sandy beaches on the emerald shores of the Gulf of Mexico. I was fascinated with the huge boats that ferried carloads of families to and from the island. I will never forget the wondrous sight and salty smell as large shrimp boats left Galveston Bay at dawn and returned at dusk. I will forever treasure that soft drawl and always warm hospitality of southern Texans. Of course, a five year old would also remember the humongous red ants that would literally bite hunks out of young tender flesh. Also the huge grasshoppers(that seemed the size of toy poodles) as they leaped high to his bare chest when he ran through the grass. A bright young boy soon learned to avoid such monsters as he marveled at the many wonders all around him.
I visited Texas once again as a young man with his own young family. We hiked the hill country and swam in the cool waters of Lake Travis outside of a very hot and arid city of Austin during mid summer. We drove south to beautiful San Antonio where we leisurely visited the San Antonio Zoo one day and the Alamo the next day. I realize that Texas is a huge state. That can be the only reason that the Alamo I visited had a vaguely similar but distinctly different history than the Alamo you speak about.
Just a doggone minute! Have you actually been to the Alamo or merely reciting the revised version of Texas and United States history in one of those new Texan school books?
I`m so glad Obama is standing up for the protesters in Egypt, who are stopping all business and clogging all roads in Tahrir square. I just hope that doesn`t happen here, cause all Americans would be pepper sprayed and beat with his and every rightwing nut who believes in freedom and libertys blessing!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha. O'bama doesnt even support our own protesters as publicly as he does for Egypt's. It's not that he doesnt believe in you nitwits, it is that he is too cowardly to do it.
Hah! Obama has been only thinking of one thing since his first re election--Campaigning on the road for the last 3 years. It's all about "him" and his needs.
He doesn't seem to care about our Protesters, their welfare, the chaos in the streets of America. Why should he care about the Egyptian Government that doesn't benefit his Agenda.
Foreign Policy in the Middle East/N. Africa---no leadership.
His Legacy will be killing OSL, Awlawki, Many Heads of Terrorist Groups; that is not relevant to solving our own problems re: Economy, restoring jobs, credit, home buying--
Killing these monsters is a good thing--the Intelligence Agencies are now working top speed here.
That is will be his legacy, not how he stood up and spoke about the slaughter of thousands of people, or the OWS who are clogging many lives here in the US--they've taken over. He loves it--Anarchists.
johnnygmd....."I`m so glad Obama is standing up for the protesters in Egypt, who are stopping all business and clogging all roads in Tahrir square. I just hope that doesn`t happen here...."
Time to leave your mommy's basement and see what is happening across the country. Yep, the OWS protesters ARE SUPPORTED by Mr. Obama and his gang of activist"non-violent" (HA) Liberals. Instead of targetingWall Street on Black Friday....they are targetingthe 99% who owns small businesses. How is that HYPOCRISY working for you ?
"Full transfer of power to a civilian government must take place in a just and inclusive manner that responds to the legitimate aspirations of the Egyptian people, as soon as possible," said White House press secretary Jay Carney.
Just another day at the White House.....throw someone else UNDER THE BUS.
Yep, the White House wants to speed up the process of the Muslim Brotherhood to take over control of the Egyptian people using SHARIA LAW.
I hope Mr. Obama remembers where the West Wing back door is since he will be using it after the 2012 elections. Now, how could he not remember where the door is located since SEIU, AFL-CIO, Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, Bernadette Peters, et al, probably used it also.
Should he use the back door because he is half black? So many of you use obvious racial references and then indignantly accuse defenders of using the race card. Such obvious and silly head games from idiots.
I remember President Bush using the front door smiling from ear to ear. He seemed almost deliriously happy to hand over the keys of the White house to the new guy. Was it genuine? Could it have come from a rolled up dollar bill full of white powder or a few too many nips from the bottle? He continued to wear that infamous Alfred P. Neumann wide grin as he hurried to Marine One to whisk him away from D.C.
I also remember waiting for V.P. Cheney to come out the same door while being escorted in a wheelchair. What was that all about? He couldn't afford one of those new-fangled motorized scooters or was this a show to elicit sympathy for Darth Vader? I'll leave that verdict to those more patronizing than I. He wore that predictable tight little grimace that indicated he was seriously impacted or wished he was anywhere but where he may be at the moment. A smarter man would have faked another heart attack. He could then rush out the back door of Walter Reed Hospital in his hospital gown. No sane adult would admit witnessing the back of the head and wrinkled behind of such a miserable creature.
I have the firm belief that an accomplished President Obama will proudly walk out the front door in 2016 as he hands over the keys to a new President sworn to serve the American people instead of an oath to Grover Norquist. I have the feeling that he will be invited and attend the Presidential ball of the new President regardless of party affiliation. Would that not be a welcome twist and start of a new tradition to demonstrate unity and loyalty to the American cause during transition of power?
You can’t have a sustainable prosperous global economy with one country doing all the manufacturing, you also can’t have a sustainable prosperous global economy through corrupt sell out to special interests governments, manipulated currencies, slave labor and poisoning the planet. The question is even though the people are waking up who will win? true leadership or just a bunch of sell outs. Whether you have a sustainable prosperous global economy or just a crapshoot. This is not just about the US anymore, people all over the world are waking up. This is the result of the masses getting an education and getting connected like never before in the history of human existence, the internet has turned the world into a classroom. We live in very interesting times, where the world goes from here is anyone's guess.
How do you know the "end" will be in China and India"?
Do you have a crystal ball?---no one knows what will happen to anyone on this earth; especially populations--it could happen in America, the way things are going. People will exit out of this country!
My only wish for the new year is ALL the rag heads kill each other OFF!.. Obammy should go talk to his friends and kiss some BUTT!... Just like he always DOES!..
So who does the Administration stand with, we did stand with our friend Mubarak, then we stood with the take over by the military, now we stand with the protesters against the military. Who do we stand with?
It is hard to answer the question when we really don't know who the players are or what their intentions are. Wil the Brotherhood take over, or a liberal group espousing Western ways? And Egypt is but one of 10 or more states in flux.
In Egypt, America will officially stand by whoever we think is going to win and play nice with the US and Israel (read: anyone but the Muslim Brotherhood). It's sadly unprincipled but at least is pragmatic.
he is one of the most wasteful...he has wasted his first term...spending us further in debt...has done little to change the corrupt way our government is ran...he is a very disappointing president...plain bob 2012...
BCOHIO, were you impressed by our decision to remove our old friend, Saddam Hussein, and the Baathists from power and replace them with Shiites aligned spiritually to Iran? How about Iran Contra, the Koch brothers dealings with the Ayatollahs, the cut and run in Lebanon after 400 U.S. marines were slaughtered near the Beirut airport?
As a minimum, you should offer specifics when you call a U.S. President a fool and by so doing you disrespect the Office of the Presidency.
Sorry Dominick but Obama has made a mockery of the presidency. The way he uses his executive powers to get around Congress, i.e the EPA, is just plain arrogant. He IS a fool if he thinks many Americans aren't waking up to his tactics. '
Now we see him supporting revolutions that have many terrorist links. I am actually beginning to wonder what his true motives are as president. Plus, he is attempting to put in socialist programs that will destroy this country. We do NOT want to go the same path as Europe. I hope it is not too late.
Linda, Really? Seriously? How about "The Patriot Act"? Remember that one? Who proposed it and shoved it through congress and down America's throat? Sooo Big Brother, wire taps without authorization..... How about an illegal war? (which incidentally IS why we are broke) that the U.N. inspectors kept saying we had no real evidence? Ring any bells for you or are they all for the bats? Stop drinking the tea flavored kool-aid.
Theresa - illegal war ??? OBama makes Bush look like a piker. Expansion in Afghanistan, involvement in Libya, "advisors" in Kenya (what did his homeland do to us), and now we will have troops in Australia. Obama is the biggest war monger of all and apparently is more than happy to accept funds from Wall Street, from the Military Industrial Complex that Eisenhower warned about, and from God knows what other extremist groups. He wants money, class and power.
Fed are you ok? How many lives has been lost from Obama "war" in Libya, Kenya, or Australia? (Hint: compare what u come up with to the 5000+ and $1trillion we poofed away in Iraq)
Yes Obama increased troops and drones in Afganistan/Pakistan temporary but DID capture Osama - our MAIN OBJECTIVE and has since started drawing down.
And in Iraq we are almost down to nothing from the number of troops bush allocated there.
Regarding Australia, all American presidents allocate troops to allied regions such as Korea, Germany, Japan, or Australia to further American interests. That is not unusual or make them a war monger!
And on Wall Street, care to LEARN which candidate (your alternative) will be receiving more of their money in this cycle, genius??? (after Obama did indeed receive donations from them in 2008 but has since enacted policies they did not like. would you prefer a candidate that takes money from them and also does their bidding perfectly? Hate will blind the intelligence of men.)
Theresa stated: "Linda, Really? Seriously? How about "The Patriot Act"? Remember that one? Who proposed it and shoved it through congress and down America's throat?"
Really Theresa? And who extended it even more and hasn't done away with it as of yet, remember that one, or did you over look that part? Nice try, but using a poor example doesn't cut it.
I have to say that I support the military in holding order. Revolutions need vision and it is difficult to see one here. The democratic/republican movement in America had at it's helm, men who were educated in history. In Washington DC you will see monuments that acknowledge historic reverence including an Egyptian oblisk in the center of DC.
The Egyptians should have no problem gleanin ideas for successful governments that work well and forgoing ones that don't. As a warning, basing a government on an official superstition is ill advised.
Apparently the Arab world is awakening from its long slumber, but don't look for too many positive gains in their feeble attempts to regain some sovereignty. Egypt in particular, is faced with the long simmering Palestinian problem and how to prevent the zionist Jews from driving out the remaining inhabitants from their homes and lands. While it now seems that the former constant barrage of anti-Palestine propaganda has been suspended for a while, it remains a mystery just how long it will be before the verbal, visual, and military attacks begin anew. But this news is understood only by those who haven't been brainwashed by the US media. The yahoos will soon renew their war mongering again in support of zionist Israel.
Just reading how several female journalists were sexually assaulted in the square once again. Such a nice peaceful group, these young Muslim males. Keep the women as second class citizens, keep the trash in your streets, and by all means denigrate females as much as possible. Your well on your way to another dictatorship, and you earned it every step of the way. A pathetic culture, a pathetic area of the world. Third world forever, for these losers.
Judson352, the Palestinian situation has nothing to do with Egypt trying to govern itself, as pathetic as it seems. The Egyptians are murdering what's left of the Christians within Egypt already. A totally pathetic culture, based on male domination of females. Keep your anti-Jewish feeble remarks to yourself. Your ignorance is showing.
For the uninformed or misinformed... There used to be a nation called Palestine that took up the same map space as Israel currently occupies. It's Arab occupants were displaced, murdered, etc when the state of Israel was imposed by European and US powers. The only reason Israel can still exist is because of a treaty with Egypt, which would have otherwise wiped Israel off the map shortly after it's inception. I can't imagine why most Arabs don't like Israel...
Oh and Arabs are a Semitic people too, so calling them anti-Semitic is just a perpetuation of the historical ignorance that birthed the term.
Arteu, I'm remembering a little something called The 6 Day War in which Israel handed Syria, Jordan AND Egypt their collective a$$es on a platter. Seems to me that Israel has either held it's own or kicked some serious Arab arse in 3 wars, Egypt included.
For the uninformed or misinformed... There used to be a nation called Palestine
Palestine and Unicorns, we have heard of both of them, surely we have. But are they real ?
Has there ever been a "country" called Palestine ?
Has there ever been a "living Creature" called a Unicorn ?
Yasser Arafat is the father of the Palestinian people it is proudly said. He inspired the intifada, he's the man who launched a thousand suicide bombers
please, name the Palestinian leader before the well known "terrorist" and by the way, where was Arafat born ?
the worlds most famous "Palestinian" is "in fact" an Egyptian
Mohammed Abdel-Raouf Arafat As Qudwa al-Hussaeini was born on 24 August 1929 in Cairo**
When you are born in Cairo, Egypt well before the Recognition of the state of Israel, you are an Egyptian, aren't you ?
Well Unicorns are Mythical Creatures, and it's just silly to try to prove their historical existence
leaving out the part that "freeing it", will subjugate the human population.Condemning them to live under a harsh and unforgiving law, that's murderous and misogynisticto the core. ,sharia law ("Allah's" law) may not be changed by mortal man
How do you steal a country, that never was. Can I go to jail, if you say, I stole your precious little Unicorn ?
I don't doubt that you love your Unicorn....But I don't have it,really I don't
Great synopsis, and a complete smashing of Arteu's fallacious argument. It's tough to have to face the truth, and the truth is Muslims can't even get along with each other, much less anyone else. The Muslim religion which is based on the second tier status of one gender, is truly pathetic, and is the enemy of every female on this planet.
Come on Abamalama. Do you really think that these people care if the good old USA stands with them? Because when all is said and done they will s()t all over our flag and country and blame us for all of their troubles and the Crusades. You know. The Crusades. All of that crape that went down 500 years ago and these people are still living it. Look at all of the Cristions that they have killed. There owne countrymen.
Funny, but my history books don't mention EGYPT anywhere in the section on the crusades.
However, if you are referring to Muslim descendents that moved to Egypt:
Having several large forces of "crusaders" invade your homeland, killing innocents wherever they find them, and forcing your people to flee to neighboring countries as refugees... that tends to have a lasting effect on how a culture/people views the descendents of those crusaders.
It doesn't make it right (making sons pay for the crimes of their fathers), but it does go a long way towards explaining the hostility.
Change will happen in all those countries like it or not; and this country will change to like it or not, our country is in a good position to become a better country if the leaders will take advantage of the wealth of information that they have access to.
I give a lot of credit to the President , he ran on change, and he has changed things a lot, when the President took office the country was in a terrible shape, and was fighting two wars, with medical insurance on a unsustainable course, and millions of people losing their homes, and their life savings, corruption was everywhere in the financial markets, and hundreds of thousands were losing their jobs, along with natural, and man made disasters the auto makers were on the verge of collapse, and the banks.
their were also foreign, economical and national security problems that he was having to deal with, along with the problems here, in my opinion he has led the country through this as well as anyone could have under the circumstances, and has turned the recession around, now we can start to repair the reasons that brought these thing about.
It is in the best interest of the country to elect him to a second term, and because the right will not work with him; we should vote people into the congress that will work with him.
Another thing they should pass the jobs bill ASAP to get the infrastructure started, and to create almost two million jobs, so those people can go to work and support their families!!!
We can be glad that the OWS is putting some pressure on the leaders to start to make the changes that are needed, I support them and would like to see many of the changes take place that they are protesting for, for the good of our country!!!
Finally a few folks who see through the hatred of the so called "religious right" If that is what Jesus is telling them I'll start reading the Koran. Mr. Lawrence Baird (above) presents himself as being so full of hate for all Muslims, after attempting to disrespect our President with "Abamalama" That's a new one. Apparently Nobama, Obammy, Bamanation, etc. weren't forcefull for him. Back in the 50s he would have been the one kicking blacks to the back of the bus while his fat a-- proudly drank from a "white fountain" My Bible tells me to love thy neighbor. My Bible tells me to care for the downtrodden. My Bible in all it's intentions aligns itself more closely to the Democratic Party. To make a long story short, if President Obama were a Republican Mr Baird would be ecstatic over the many accomplishments of our President.
my only hope is that the Egyptians will be able to have the government they have struggled for and the long over due peace and stability they have fought for.
"If the majority of the Egyptian people want to elect members of the Muslim Brotherhood because that organization, which is focused on bringing freedom, socio-economic equality and justice to all"
The Muslim Brotherhoods idea of freedom is called "hurriya" and what it means is "perfect slavery to Allah" (or rather slavery to his zakat collecting henchmen: the MB & etc.). And, historically, Islam's method of bringing "socio-economic equality" to the Middle East, North Africa and parts of Asia amounted to the conquering of nations; they, Mohammadans out of Arabia, invaded and attacked; raped, enslaved, slaughtered and pillaged the indigenous peoples of many lands (Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan ... Germany, Norway, Sweden, France, Great Britain, the list is ever growing) and then told the survivors to submit (be an "equal" slave of Allah) or die. And the "justice" they wish to mete out to "all" (eventually the world) is called "sharia" and that inhumane code of laws offers justice to no one.
Everything happens for a reason; first, President Obama wished to leave a legacy to future generations to come; second, he copied Mao Tse Tung's disastrous revolution hoping to fix the bugs, only to see his plans go out of control.
Like Mao, Obama thought he would be obeyed by his millions-strong 'Red Gouards.' Like Mao's Red Guards, the Egyptian protesters owe no gratitude or allegiance to anyone; not even Obama, their seeming creator.
Obama was useful to them in the beginning. There's no way they could possibly topple President Hosni Mubarak on their own then; but even the milk has expiry date!
President Obama was really helpful in those days and they were grateful, they were; but that's it! They realise (now) their sense of worth: they're no longer the poors and down-trodden of Egypt; they matter. They want things done according to their whims and fancies. If they don't like a certain high official, they want to see him fired, if not packed to prison too.
Although numerous former leaders or officials from the time of Mubarak rule have been singled out, shamed, prosecuted (or victimized), don't expect these mobs to be satisfied...until they're done ruining everyone's life that they're jealous of.
After counting their gains for months and wasting them, they are back to Tahrir square where it all began.
Although Mubarak was gone, which was what many then wanted so much that they united to make it happen, these mobs are not done yet, not in a million years, in fact. They know what they can do. They have the numbers. They can do as they please, if you will. For now, they will be mighty pleased if the generals or their chief are shown the exit like Mubarak.
Whether any of these generals would face any investigation or prosection they would decide later. The most important thing now is to make them cede power first! And if the generals, including their field marshall, think by agreeing to voluntarily give up power hoping to get into the good book of the protesters or escape prosecution, they will regret to the end. As the cases of fomer president Mubarak and Muammar Qaddafi had shown, once you lose power you lose everything: your rights, possessions or freedoms and, unfortunately for Qaddafi and his sons, lives.
It remains to be seen how President Salleh of Yemen will fare after allegedly securing for himself , family and loyal friends a deal of immunity from prosecution. Some complaints have been voiced by some protesters over the terms which they claimed were too generous. They want Salleh to face the music, as they say. But that won't likely happen as long as the Yemeni president remains a friend of Saudi Arabia. And so far, very much so. When he was seriously wounded recently he was flown to Riyadh and remained there until fully recoverd.
Saudi Arabia turned out to be king-maker nowadays. What they say goes. Even President Obama needs Saudi Arabia, and will not do anything to displease the Kingdom. When President Obama bowed and kissed King Abdullah's hand, for which he was criticized severely, he didn't do it accidentally.
When Saudi Arabia sent troops to help Bahrain's Sunni minority King crush the Shiite (majority) uprising recently, Obama didn't lift a finger to help the shiites. So the protesters stopped protesting since. So, for the US under President Obama, it's not about human rights, per se. Obama's statement that unless we intervened in Libya to protect civilians the world's conscience would be tainted with Libyans' blod, was a sham,. a ploy to get the American people to support his venture in Libya which would bring no benefit whatsoever to the world.
If he really believes in justice, he should extend the same help to the shiites of Bahrain who are the majority of the population but denied their rights by the minority sunnis, he extended to the Egyptian and Libyan protesters. He should support all legitimate protests irrespective of who or who they associate with.
As at present, those in Obama's good book have been left untouched; while President Assad is next (to be deposed).
But before that happens, the man in immediate danger is Field Marshall Tantawi. As the US government started demanding openly for the Egyptian military to give up powers, it won't be long before the trade-mark arm-twisting starts. May be it already did.
What a shame. A debacle. Faux pas. What outrageous. This unscrupulous US government is a blot on US good name for generations to come. They have destroyed and are destroying whatever peace and orders and norms that, while not perfect, have served us fairly well for a long time. For instance, a stable Egypt under Mubarak had been boon for peace between the Israelis and Arabs for decades.
When Mubarak fell, people feared the worst. Fortunately, however, the generals stepped in in time to prevent the slide.. If the military is weakened and goes the way of Mubarak, who can step in..this time? The Tahrir square protesters? I doubt (they are a tiny minority of the Egyptian population, if they qualifiy as even that. During the recent referendum they were firmly rejected by the Egyptian voters who voted for the MB, remember? Although a devil also but at least they 're known devils, they must have thought to themselves.
How about Muslim Brotherhood? It will not be easy for them to step in the shoes of Mubarak or the Military Council, as the majority of Egyptians are secular but still possible. If that happens, the man to blame is none other than President Obama. From day one, Obama went out of his way to pave the ways for the Muslim Brotherhood.
If the Muslim Brotherhood goes on to rule Egypt and abolish the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, peace and transquillity in the Middle East will be destroyed, and so will Obama's dream legacy.
The problems that Egypt is experiencing in transitioning from over four decades of totalitarianism to freedom and democracy are not unprecedented, in fact, they are to be expected. The culture of military rule that has been an integral part of life in North Africa and the Middle East, and what remains of the Mubarak regime are, understandably, trying to have a voice in the new Egypt; and those who fought for a transition to a form of government and freedoms consistent with the values and expectations that prevail in the 21st century are demanding a form of government that denies the former a policy-making role to influence the future of Egypt.
The United States is doing the only thing we can do under these circumstances. In spite of our record, we must support freedom and democracy, the tone of our statement and the form it was delivered suggests fatigue or a reluctance to get dragged into the political turmoil in Egypt.
Funny how in this large gathering of Egypt people you don't see any women, but they're there; in Egypt women traditionally let the men lead them on their "Black Friday" shopping sprees.
Once again Obama tells those in foreighnlands we stand with them in their struggles but where is he out there taking a stand with us, the American People. Peaceful marchers being bullied by our own police officers but where does he take a stand on this? Don't see a thing.
Where is the stand of him and his administration on going after these criminals that screwed and stole from the American people? Has anyone been prosecuted for these Ponzi Scheme they foisted on us and others around the globe? Been pretty silent there I would say.
It is past time to stand with us for once instead of standing for people in other lands. DO something here for the very people who elected you to run this country and put this speech making on others away.
I see no upside to this. Military control is bad and so is a devolution into anarchy as those that want their freedom have little to no experience in running a country. Where ever this has occurred the right wing conservative religious extreamists have tried and often have been successful in taking power, see the state of Iran and what they want to do right here in the US.
So you in good conscience equate radical muslims with American Republicans? You think Republicans and Sharia law go hand in hand? The problem in America is the complete downfall of morality, hastened by the likes of you. Maybe if you understood the fact that Egypt has about the 4th largest army in the world armed with top American and Soviet technology and you and Obama want to give control to the Muslim Brotherhood so they can start WWIII in about 6 weeks, because that is what's going to happen D.A.
In the media for some kind of reason you do not hear about the extremists amongst the protesters. 49% stand behind the M.brotherhood, in the same protest on Friday their leaders were heard saying: "We will kill all the J ews after we will undo the peace treaty (they already got their land back) and we will reign in Europe and America we will kill all who are not with us". All of the translations you can see in Aljezeera ME. I wonder why no one is being honest enough to tell the truth.
@sun of zion : No wonder . Read this verse from Quran:
047.004 Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been God's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of God-- He will never let their deeds be lost.
(in fight) is not in the original Arabic text. The site is : jannah.org
Coptic-Christian: 047.004 Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks;... (in fight) is not in the original Arabic text. The site is : jannah.org
Coptic-Christian: Honesty and intellectual integrity requires that when you repudiate, refute and criticise a statement or prove it false/wrong then it is honorable to deal with it as it is, NOT change it, 'Straw-Man' it, and then attack the 'Straw-Man'.
You Christians take a component of a Koranic verse, add or delete words, thus misrepresenting the meaning of the verse, twisting its words by means of false assumptions and presentations.
Next having created this ‘Straw-Man’, you attack this false illusion you have concocted which is superficially similar yet is a very different to the original meaning of the Koranic verse: A distortion to the point of untruth and lie - The Christian stock in trade. This distorted statement is then misrepresented as a ‘true fact from the Koran’ and attacked.
In this distorted version of [Sura47:04] that you have presented, you have deviously misrepresented the actual verse from the Koran for the consumption of simple minded folk who may be unaware or unfamiliar with this Christian stock in lies, deceit, and misrepresentation.
I am presenting The Islamic University of Al Azhar at Cairo's certified translation of [Sura47:04] by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall - The Original Arabic is also presented in paralle as proof:
[47:4] Pickthall Now when ye meet in BATTLE those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks until, when ye have routed them, then making fast of bonds; and afterward either grace or ransom till the war lay down its burdens. That (is the ordinance). And if Allah willed He could have punished them (without you) but (thus it is ordained) that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He rendereth not their actions vain.
---------------------------------------------------- YOU Christians, what you lack in honesty, integrity and honor you make up with your Satanic deceit, cunning, and lies...but you will not succeed in hiding the TRUTH... ...TRY AGAIN CHRISTIAN MAN. PRACTICE YOUR INGRAINED SATANIC DECEIT SOME MORE...YOU WILL LOSE FOREVERMORE ...INSHALLAH!!!
Dale, please list these changes you credit the president with?.... further more, I must have missed the report that all of the things that were "wrong" when he took office have been "changed" and corrected....
This will not end in a civilian government but a religious government of Sharia law! Not Democracy! How can people not see that? We in America are completely stupid if we believe the middle east will ever have democracy as the ruling party of their government!
I agree Val, and there are those who really believe that is what the majority of the population wants. Give the women opportunity to tell you what they really want. I cant imagine seeing replacing a dictatorship with a theocracy as being representative of the common good.
And now is the time to go and take a visit to the middle east ! You know what gets me ? It is when Americans see no harm in traveling over to these place and after they are beaten raped or killed how the media make it sound as if I have to give a good god damn ! I tell you this ANY one American going over to these places ANY time will never get my sympathy ! Keep up the good fight You ragheads ! As long as there are Muslims on this planet there will never be world peace !
I had a dream last night that the Earth was hit by something the size of the moon and we were pushed into the sun and vapourized. Hmmm, "maybe it was the moon"
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Same bull@!$%#, just a different face (party). Hmmmm, kinda sounds just like what's going on here for the last several decades
The Egyptian economy is largely based on tourism.
Gee, I wonder who's side Obama is on?
With 'friends' like Obama, who needs enemies.
I love this Obama Administration. Barack et al can't run their own country but they sure want to tell everyone else how to run theirs.
The US has enough problems here they fail to address, Stay the hell outta Egypts.
lacking commonsense101,
nice history lesson!
why dont you also tell us how ben franklin invented the lightbulb and edison took the first steps on the moon!! cause its about as correct as your logic.
so sit back and listen.
They need your help GO AND HELP THEM!... I am sure your leader Obammy would like it if you did!..
haha. O'bama doesnt even support our own protesters as publicly as he does for Egypt's. It's not that he doesnt believe in you nitwits, it is that he is too cowardly to do it.
kornfed ...sad but true...
horse puckey
Support the Egyptian Protesters?
He loves it--Anarchists.
johnnygmd ....."I`m so glad Obama is standing up for the protesters in Egypt, who are stopping all business and clogging all roads in Tahrir square.
So how do make half of India and China's population disappear? The laws of nature eventually prevail.
JazzMaster:
"our" friend? Taking a bit of liberty there aren't you el shaheeb?
Obammy is THE biggest FOOL ever to be in the White House!...
BCOHIO
The word "FOOL" is subjective. I happen to think your posts are the most foolish I've ever seen.
he is one of the most wasteful...he has wasted his first term...spending us further in debt...has done little to change the corrupt way our government is ran...he is a very disappointing president...plain bob 2012...
Linda,
Congradulations, you were able to hit on most of the unsupported TP talking points within one paragraph.
BCOHIO, at least have the courage to use your real name when posting, otherwise, as that fool George Bush said, you're irrelevant.
He is a fool and a pussyfooter. Bush was just a fool.
@Judson-352... -- It is obvious here WHO has been brainwashed!
@JCB-123... -- In my 60 years I have not been able to grasp the reason for abjectly rabid antisemitism of some "people!"
Seems to me that Israel has either held it's own or kicked some serious Arab arse in 3 wars, Egypt included.
arteu-2792597
Palestine and Unicorns, we have heard of both of them, surely we have. But are they real ?
Has there ever been a "country" called Palestine ?
Has there ever been a "living Creature" called a Unicorn ?
Yasser Arafat is the father of the Palestinian people it is proudly said. He inspired the intifada, he's the man who launched a thousand suicide bombers
please, name the Palestinian leader before the well known "terrorist" and by the way, where was Arafat born ?
the worlds most famous "Palestinian" is "in fact" an Egyptian
When you are born in Cairo, Egypt well before the Recognition of the state of Israel, you are an Egyptian, aren't you ?
Well Unicorns are Mythical Creatures, and it's just silly to try to prove their historical existence
what about Palestine, is there a historical basics for a Country called Palestine.(other than Islam will obliterate all)
I know the slogan, yet it is all I could find, for it is elusive, and very ill-defined
leaving out the part that "freeing it", will subjugate the human population.Condemning them to live under a harsh and unforgiving law, that's murderous and misogynistic to the core. ,sharia law ("Allah's" law) may not be changed by mortal man
How do you steal a country, that never was. Can I go to jail, if you say, I stole your precious little Unicorn ?
I don't doubt that you love your Unicorn....But I don't have it,really I don't
read more at http://kpr37.newsvine.com/_news/2010/06/09/4483694-palestine-and-unicorns-what-do-we-really-know-about-them
KPR37,
Great synopsis, and a complete smashing of Arteu's fallacious argument. It's tough to have to face the truth, and the truth is Muslims can't even get along with each other, much less anyone else. The Muslim religion which is based on the second tier status of one gender, is truly pathetic, and is the enemy of every female on this planet.
The American Revolution lasted six years.
It doesn't make it right (making sons pay for the crimes of their fathers), but it does go a long way towards explaining the hostility.
i know what you mean stephen,i`m still nervous about romans because we have not worked on hadrians wall for what 2000 years.
Dale, a good post and change is happening in that region--about time--and we owe it to the
leadership of President Obama. And TGIF Phyllis
Muslim paranoia squad has been heard from. Quit...
@Susanmarie = Willful ignorance. Otherwise known as a useful tool.
LOL, I agree, Rick!!!
Do you wish to know more?
Good post. I am reading "The Cairo Trilogy" by Naguib Mahfouz, an engrossing story of a Muslim
family in Cairo during Britain's occupation of Egypt in the early decades of the twentieth century.
I think I see the problem in the Middle East. It's the British. Winston Chuchill's folly there created
turmoil in Iraq.
Which is arrogance and fundamental racism.
Is it true President Obama returned the bust of Winston Churchill to UK?
This large gathering of Eygptian people are'nt demonstrating, they are there for the "Black Friday" bargins.
Hosni...Hosni...Hosni!!! Yeah. The good old days!
@sun of zion -- It IS a wonder; Isn't it??? I can only cite willful ignorance.
@sun of zion : No wonder . Read this verse from Quran:
[47:4] Pickthall
Now when ye meet in BATTLE those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks until, when ye have routed them, then making fast of bonds; and afterward either grace or ransom till the war lay down its burdens. That (is the ordinance). And if Allah willed He could have punished them (without you) but (thus it is ordained) that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He rendereth not their actions vain.
٤﴾
----------------------------------------------------
YOU Christians, what you lack in honesty, integrity and honor you make up with your Satanic deceit, cunning, and lies...but you will not succeed in hiding the TRUTH...
...TRY AGAIN CHRISTIAN MAN.
It's gonna happen here. Just wait and see. Bye, Newt, John B and the rest of you jerks.
As long as there are different ideals, there will never be peace.
trickson, not all muslims are bad just like not all Christians are good. You must be one of those white know it all airheads.

I had a dream last night that the Earth was hit by something the size of the moon and we were pushed into the sun and vapourized. Hmmm, "maybe it was the moon"
