One of the victim's mothers has stated that the coach used to pick her kid up at school (and that she wasn't informed unter afterwards) so that he could have some extra time with her son!!
Similarly, now we hear that he took one of his victims to a bowl game for the weekend?!?! We now know that the coach got mad at the kid because he didn't want to accept the coach's advances while on holiday!! Unless he did everything on the sly, Penn State HAD to know that he was carting kids around.
So now we have federal sex crimes? How about conspiracy? Kidnapping? Taking a kid across state lines for sex? Statutory rape? It's just amazing and absolutely disgusting.
Get ready Penn State- If it was my kid, and there is this kind of information coming out, I'd be suing you for $150 million easy. You may not have a football program to speak of soon.
This makes me question another recent case that made headlines here in Texas. The judge who beat his daughter...they said they can't prosecute because of the statute of limitations, because it was 8yrs ago. This event took place 12yrs ago. Maybe all these different crimes have different statutes, which seems likely, but it also seems pretty darn stupid at this point.
Oh, they knew. They all knew. Shame on all of them for not immediately following law and conscience and reporting these horrendous things to law enforcement. WTF is wrong with people? It's bad enough these victims and so many others (these are just the ones who were actually witnessed, and you know that he did horrible things to more kids that didn't happen to be seen) were traumatized and hurt, but the coverup is just as horrible.
I sincerely hope all who let these children be harmed and didn't go to the police are charged. This is disgusting and illegal and morally bankrupt. Disgusting. Shame on the whole program and I think they should ban the program from playing. If they were all so willing to sacrifice kids for their program I think they should be hit where it hurts....in the power and money of the program. Yes, the one guy actually did the acts, but those who knew and didn't do anything literally delivered that child and other children to this creep and facilitated the crimes. Shame.
That's quite an assumption ram-762581. From waht I've seen there are just unsubstantiated allegations against any but Sandusky.
I find it interesting that Paterno is fired for following procedure - reporting hear-say to his boss. If it comes out and it is proved that he was involved in a cover-up then by all means he should face the music. If he was not involved then I hope he's absolved with the same level of energy and spirit that the lynching party shows in wanting to string him up.
You are so right. That a$$hole McQueary saw Sandusky raping a 10 year old boy with his very own eyes. Nothing ALLEDGED about it...he SAW IT and DID NOTHING. Why is he not up on charges for being an accessory to a crime?
Sandusky should burn ever so slowly in hell and McQueary right along side him. If McQueary had stopped the rape and called 911 on his cell phone, dozens more boys could have been spared sexual assault by that pervert. Paterno, the university president, the athletic director and all that knew it was happening and still gave him access to the showers, locker rooms, gave him an office and a parking spot on campus?? They made it even easier for Sandusky to commit his sick crimes against young children. They all make me want to throw up.
It isn't hearsay when the person that SAW the act reports it to his superior. McQueary told the truth all along and all the University did was ban Sandiphilia from bringing boys on to the campus to victimize them. In the end it is the graduate student (at the time) that is going to suffer....Who was probably in shock and disbelief, confused, wanting to keep his job, and sure that his mentor and idol would know how to handle the situation properly. Paterno is 84 years old for heaven's sake. The only reason he broke so many records is that he out lasted his opponents. Nobody likes to end a career like this, but he was the one that had the power to act and he did not--which allowed Sandiphile to continue to victimize children for years.
"following procedure"? They have a "procedure" for the rape of kids in their handbook? He (Paterno) should have gone to the cops when it became clear that "following procedure" was not producing the result of stopping the molestations and/or bringing the criminal to justice.
There was an alumnus that was photographed with a sign that read "all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing". I agree 100%.
Chuck in Olathe.......read the grand jury report and see if you still truly believe the allegations are unsubstantiated. Common sense would tell you that Paterno knew bad things were happening and intentionally looked the other way/didn't investigate. Following "procedure" and doing the right thing aren't necessarily the same behaviors. Is that really your bar for how to respond to child sexual abuse? As long as it's protocol that's good enough even if it means more kids are harmed? How about following a true moral compass instead?
Here's one more thought while you are attempting to absolve all but Sandusky.....the officials banned him from bringing children to the locker rooms. Why do you suppose they did that if they didn't know bad things were happening? Again, common sense dictates that they knew and only were interested in preventing the illegal acts from happening on their property, not that they wanted to prevent the illegal acts. The football program was too valuable to actually act against these crimes and bring it all to light.
Anyone that excuses or rationalizes the abuse or cover up behavior (and it's pretty clear that's what was happening) enables the abuse. Simple as that.
PSU Class of 87 here. Paterno isn't legally culpable, the State Police have already said that. So Paterno isn't getting arrested. As for Civilly culpable... look out! Lawyers are already lying up for a piece of the Paterno pie. Joe's fall from disgrace is just beginning.
But Paterno doesn't have to be legally culpable to still be involved in a cover up. He definitely kept his mouth shut when morally/ethically, there was an imperative for him to speak up.
There is no absolution for Joe Paterno. Even he said he wish he would have done more. He dropped the ball in 2002 by doing nothing and many more children were abused in the years that followed. Doing nothing may not be a cover up, but it certainly makes him, and all who looked the other way, involved.
No lynching party here Chuck, only justice. Read the Grand Jury report. PSU trustees had no other choice, other than to do this a day or two earlier. Too bad Paterno didn't grab his opportunity to apologize and retire immediately when he had that chance last Monday or Tuesday. Old, stubborn fool.
@ Dr B & Harold - Don't put words in my mouth, I'm absolving nobody, I said wait for the evidence.
Look up "unsubstantiated" - it means unproven. Until accusations and/or charges are proven all are innocent, or didn't you know that? Of course, there are those that are so sure of themselves that they don't need a trial to convict....Hence the "lynch-mob" mentality comment. Too bad if it fits you.
In the baby Lisa diappearance here in Kansas City I followed epople posting to the story, with many many many people ready to hang the parents because they just knew that they were guilty. Here we are a month and a half later with zero evidence........
Chuck, You are a idiot! You are letting your love of the game and your team cloud your thought process. You guys had a sick child predator on campus and a bunch of good ole boys who didn't want to make waves. This made for a very bad situation that has now blown up in your face. Honestly the whole bunch makes me sick! Even the interim coach seems to have a sort of chip on his shoulder at least when he was ask about the asst coach who saw the one attack! I'm just not sure they stll get it!
I will promise you this. If I saw a co-worker doing something like that I would refuse to continue to work with the pervert. Yes I would report it to my boss but I would insist that the police be called. If they were not I would call myself. Most any reasonable person would do likewise. As for Paterno he can not be held responsible for what happened before he knew but after he knew his hands are dirty also. Anyone who knew what had happened has to be shown the door.
Steve 2057180 refers to Sandusky as a "Pedophile" and I submit that this idiot goes beyond "pedophile". He is a raging homosexual who preys on young boys (not a single victim so far has been a girl). Does Texas still have the Sodomy laws? He was an "out of control queer".
I have emailed the board of trustees at Penn State (bot@psu.edu) demanding that they fire McQueary, Curley and Schultz immediately and cancel the remainder of the football season. I encourage all who are as outraged as I am over this crime and cover up to do the same.
Furthermore, where was Sandusky's wife while he was abusing a boy in their San Antonio hotel room? Why did the parents of those little boys allow their sons to spend the night at Sandusky's house and take overnight trips with a man they barely knew?
The moral blindness of this ugly mess is staggering.
I find it interesting that Paterno is fired for following procedure - reporting hear-say to his boss.
Chuck,
Perhaps Paterno followed procedure. Even so, he should still be fired. McQueary came to him after having witnessed Sandusky raping a little boy. I hope none of us are ever such slaves to procedure.
Chuck, I'm sorry I offended you or hurt your feelings. This story truly makes me mad and I guess I took that out on you. I do find it funny however how quick you were to report me for this and it does sort of illustrate how easy it is to report wrong doing. Again, I am sorry!!
btone....agree, with one caveat, McQueary should have taken matters in his own hands when he (allegedly) saw Sandusky molested the young boy. I am sure McQueary could not have gotten into more trouble than he is now if he had gone and kicked the crap out of Sandusky, and rescued the boy.
mark - apology accepted. I have no problem with someone who disagrees with me, as I rarely learn anything from someone who already agrees with me. I will not accept personal insults though.
My point is not that any of these men are without blame, in fact I think there will be plenty of blame laid at the feet of many involved. My point is to wait until it is sorted out and people are either proven guilty by evidence or witnesses before building the scaffold.
Just a couple of days ago there was another story on MSN dealing with a healthcare provider in Montana(?) that discovered child porn on the computer of a customer. She told her supervisor, who then admonished her to keep silent. She reported it to the police and was fired. Strangely that story never got the publicity that this one did.
Hence the "lynch-mob" mentality comment. Too bad if it fits you.
Chuck,
Don't let the door hit your a$$ on the way out. If you are against speculation then you are in the wrong place. That's exactly what these forums will give you. Rather than complaining and judging others you can simply stay away. Mark was right the first time, if you are expecting anything less when you log on to Newsvine.
"following procedure"? They have a "procedure" for the rape of kids in their handbook? He (Paterno) should have gone to the cops when it became clear that "following procedure" was not producing the result of stopping the molestations and/or bringing the criminal to justice.
terrials -
DING DING DING! Procedure is only applicable for internal University matters. When you get a minor involved that is not a student of said University then it falls outside the jusridiction of the Campus police and the staff. It doesn't matter if it was on campus, off campus, in the locker room, on the desk or on the railroad tracks. It is an absolute police matter. They had no place trying to handle it on their own.
This whole thing is incomprehensible. There was an eye witness to a heinous crime and no one did anything? Sandusky should have been in prison from the moment he was found out. Fire them all (done!) and if at all possible, prosecute them all. Paterno is worried about lawsuits? Let him worry and let him sweat. Imagine how those kids felt. As far as Penn State is concerned, that's a fine example they are setting for young adults. What scumbags.
You imply that I have no right to an opinion if it doen't match yours? You must feel threatened by opposing opinions.
You think a differring opinion gives anyone the right to use personal insults? A personal insult may be acceptable on the school playground but intelligent, educated and sophisticated adults find they don't need insults to communicate. Maybe you either need to review the CoH that you agreed to before being allowed to post here or if you read it but couldn't understand it then you need to find someone to explain it to you.
Beyond that I couldn't care less about you opinion on anything.
Chuck, please see Mark's original comment again. Because not only have you been practicing the exact same behavior that you are accusing me of, but you imagined an insult from me that never occured in the first place. All I said was basically if you don't like what is said on here and think you are so above it all, then don't log on. How is that an insult?
The reality of the situation is that YOU are the one labeling people, judging people and shaming people for their opinions simply because they are not shared by you or because you want to play devil's advocate.
Do you realize how vanilla and boring these boards would be if all the comments were "Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait and see what the investigation turns up"? Your idea about what the comments should be here completely defeat the purpose of a forum. If you only stuck to the subject of the article and simply voiced an opposing opinion and didn't veer off into a rant about us being a lynch-mob then you might have a point. But alas, you fail to acknowledge your own hypocrisy.
About that, he was practicing his three throw aways for the debate and still forgot one.
Mcqueary is the one most responsible since he was an eyewitness, makes one wonder if he just stood there for a second to reminisce. Hard to say what one should do in a matter like this. I know I would have ended up in jail.
coward? or opportunist? or both? The second would make him even more disgusting.
He was trying to move up the ladder and realize his dream of replacing JoePa someday. Whistleblowing doesn't get you promoted, but leverage does.... just sayin'
I was listening to a reporter who said that if there had been a woman somewhere along the line of all these events taking place, she would have intervened and gotten the proper authorities involved immediately. What is the difference here? I don't understand. I don't know that I could have contained my intense anger if I saw or heard about this type of behavior taking place, but would yanked that child away from the coach instantaneously.
Chuck said- I have no love for Paterno or the Penn State team or PSU. I do however have a love for justice, for civil rights and for guaranteed personal rights.
I have no love for little bitchy wimps who tattle tale and can't take a little criticism... I have a love for freedom of speech and freedom of expression.. If a guy is willing to apologize to someone who tells him he just wimped out and tattled to the playground monitor Sally... Mark is the bigger man..
It is men like you chuck who act like you did when you were little, hiding behind your mommy to fight your battles... Sticking your tongue out having her protect you.
Mark is the kind of guy who calls it like he sees it no matter what the consequences.. If there would have been men like Mark at Penn State Sandusky would have been arrested years ago... Damn the consequences just the need for real justice calling it like he saw it.
You on the other hand would have tattled to the higher ups and if they chose not to do anything you would have just continued being the little wimp that cries out in every reply..
The world needs more people like mark and Lolly, it sure doesn't need the likes of you and Sandusky...
When you get a minor involved that is not a student of said University then it falls outside the jusridiction of the Campus police and the staff. It doesn't matter if it was on campus, off campus, in the locker room, on the desk or on the railroad tracks. It is an absolute police matter.
Incorrect. The attack occurred on Campus, therefore, it's TOTALLY under the jurisdiction of Campus Police. I went to Penn State. PSU Campus Police are real cops, they carry real guns, real mace, real handcuffs, and send people to real jails.
When it came to the March 2002 attack, Spanier, Curley, Schultz, Paterno, and McQueary deliberately made sure the information did NOT go to Campus Police. That's why they all got fired.
The Campus Police's authority does not trump State and Federal Law. You are dead wrong here. It was because the act occured on campus that the Clery Act was violated by not publicly reporting the crime. It was because it was a state school receiving federal aid that Title IX of the Civil Rights Act was also violated by them keeping quiet.
If it has been a student that had been raped, simply making it public record would have been sufficient, BUT...
Add to that the mandatory state law that ALL cases of child abuse must be reported to the Department of Welfare. BY LAW the University was not allowed to handle these matters on their own because the victim was a child.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he committed suicide before prison (not that I want him to do that). It's pretty well known what happens to pedophiles in prison.
McQuery will not be charged because they need his testimony. It is sad but true. He could use a few days in a cage with Bubba and no one coming to his aid. Maybe he might fully understand what that poor boy went through. Sandusky will hopefully become Bubba's unwilling lifetime partner!
Certainly, there will be more that will find the courage to come forward. Those whose lives were not destroyed by the abuse, that is...
So disgusting that any adult could say to a kid 'hey, want to go on a fancy trip of a lifetime?'
Special place in hell for this animal.....
Once Sandusky is put in prison he will not be in the general population and due to his age they will protect him. As for hell, if he confesses his sin to Jesus Christ he will be in heaven just like any other believer will be! And in heaven nobody is going to remember what this man ever did!
Mark, save it. It's more than a little nauseating to hear your take on sin and crime. I'm sick of that kind of religious BS and the easy out it gives the most horrible criminal.
God gave you a brain, so use it. He gave you a mouth, so please shut it.
Hey Mark! So it's that easy huh? I guess we'll all be hanging out together with Sandusky, Hitler, Stalin, Jim Jones.....sign me up!...sounds like a lotta fun...you gotta be kidding me...I hope you were being sarcastic.....
Mark in Exton - Not so sure that he will be forgiven if he confesses his sin to Jesus Christ. See Matthew 18:1-7 whereby Jesus says "whoever causes a little one to sin .....it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be sunk into the depths of the sea. Woe to the world for such temptations to sin and influence to do wrong."
I know that the little but powerful book of 1 John (1:1-10) gives us the lesson of a BELIEVER who stumbles and confesses his sin and is subsequently restored to fellowship with the Lord, but is it possible that Sandusky was ever a believer? I am not the ultimate judge, but Jesus is, we will just have to wait and see how this plays out in eternity.
Confession means nothing. To enter Heaven, he would have to truly repent for what he has done. Remember, there is nothing secret from the Lord. I don't see any repentance in him. He looks like he's smirking in most of the pictures.
I am sure "Bubba" will take good care of him in prison! He won't last a month in general population without someone taking him out permanently. Not condoning it; but that is they way it usually works.
Sandusky should be prosecuted for every attack/assault he perpetrated against these young and vulnerable boys. Yeah...lt him come to Texas for a trial...he would never leave the great State of Texas alive.
After reading the Grand Jury report it's obvious this man is a pedophile, and he was helped along the way by everyone in authority at Penn State, they covered it up because Football comes before morals and helping children apparently.
I've always had great respect for Paterno but now that's lost, he reported it to his superior yet knew what was going on and continued to befriend this guy and turn a blind eye to what he was doing, sorry Joe but you have tarnished what would have been a great career for helping a pedophile that's a sad legacy.
Agree totally. Joe Paterno had to know what was going on. When his young assistant told him that he had seen Sandusky raping a 10 year old in the shower he should have immediately gone to the police. He chose to turn a blind eye to this pedophile. He is no different than those who turned a blind eye towards the abuse priests were perpetrating and he deserves NO better treatment. He will be sued by these families and he will LOSE.
Yes and well said. I see no difference between standing and watching the acts and clapping and what that whole program did. If you turn your head or let these things keep happening when you know they are, keep him available to more innocent kids, and keep him in your life as a friend or colleague, how is that not encouraging and facilitating the crimes?
And shen, you are right. This is no different than the all the church staff who let them abuse kids...disgusting and illegal.
Would somebody please explain to me...Why are the student defending Paterno with no thought to the victim's welfare? I don't understand. Is a coach so all powerful at a University that he/she is given a pass by the students for allowing a pedophile to victimize children for a decade? I am confused. Where is the concern for the victims and MQueary, who had to have been totally blown out of the water by what he saw as a young grad student assistant? He reported it to his mentor and idol. I am sure that he was depressed and surprised--and wanting to keep his job--when it was determined that the incident was overstated by him. How was he supposed to defend that? Now HE is getting threats? Somebody educate me....Because it appears that education has nothing to do with Penn State.
There are other sites that are also reporting the abuse went WAY further than what we're hearing mainstream. Possible pimping out of kids to wealthy donors to the program...that kind of stuff. Not only did Paterno and other University officials know what was going on, it would appear that this will turn out to be the worst scandal attached to a specific college/sports program in history. IMO they should shut the whole football program down. Clearly the corruption and desire to put a money/prestige making program above child safety, morality and even just common sense is too much for them all.
I'll wait and see on the 'pimping out' stuff. I hadn't heard that, and rumors will fly. The whole story of an Assistant District Attorney disappearing, then being declared dead two years ago is quite unsettling though. I read that yesterday. His car was found the next day, and his laptop was in the car, but the hard drive was missing. He was prosecuting attorney against some of the very stories we are reading, and he simply vanished? There is more to this story.
I was talking to my family about this whole sordid affair and we were all just so flabbergasted by it all....How does Sandusky justify any of this in his head...a great job, probably a decent family with children....so much standing in the community that others would love to have and would hopefully respect and appreciate such a wonderful life....what makes some people lose it like this...how can they do this to kids and sleep at night...I don't get it...I am no saint by any means but it just overwhelms the senses in trying to understand....Why...blows your mind...there is no justice if Sandusky is found guilty that would come close to equaling the damage this person has created...so sad for the kids...
Colorblind, I can only hope that the Penn State students who rioted in defense of Paterno acted impulsively before they knew all the facts.
Hopefully as more information comes to light, those students will recognize the imperative in firing Paterno. The reputation of their school has been tarnished irreparably and they will all have to live with this taint. I hope they do the right thing now and turn all the focus onto helping the children who were victimized and bringing the perps and the cowards to justice.
kay...Thank you for your reply. The true culprit here is Sandusky. He is the criminal. He committed these horrible acts and he should be the one that suffers the most. Still, Paterno had enough authority to make a difference in the lives of Sandusky's future victims and he chose not to do so. McQueary had no authority at the time and was not even believed. He was betrayed by his idol and given the lesson that, all costs, save the football program. I am sure that night is still vivid in his mind. I am sure that he blames himself for his lack of action. I just don't believe that he and Paterno had only one conversation about this--I believe he was threatened. Paterno has outstayed his welcome. If I were Nebraska, I wouldn't play against this team....Not until they gave support, rather than death threats to the new coach. It isn't up to the students to decide who is coach. It is their job to play or to support.
Sandusky is the pervert and perpetrator of these hideous crimes, yes. But Paterno knew what Sandusky was doing as far back as 1998 and he chose to look the other way. In 2000, allegations were again brought against Sandusky who had been "retired" from the program but still had full access to all the school's facilities. Once again, Paterno failed to act. In 2002 when McQueary witnessed a child being raped with his own eyes, again no one acted to stop Sandusky! There are most likely many many more victims, some very recent, that we have not yet heard from.
Sandusky was enabled in his crimes for over a decade! How on earth did those men who covered this up think it would forever remain a secret? The Penn State football program was rotten to the core and the stink has finally overwhelmed all of them.
I have zero sympathy for McQueary or anyone else who covers up the crimes of a serial rapist or a pedophile. He was an accessory after the fact. He is a coward. End of story.
I'm thinking Jerry Sandusky has been a practicing pedophile all his adult life and may very likely have raped many, many more boys prior to 1995, so I hope the authorities may do a lot more digging into this guy's background and early adulthood to see if that turns out to be true.
A poster on the NYT website provided one interesting theory as to why Penn State didn't permanently bar Sandusky from the campus: Sandusky may have had something big enough on them to threaten to go public with if Penn State actually banned him from the school. It would easily explain all those little perks he got from them, including access to the grounds and an on-campus office, while still hunting for little boys to rape at his pleasure.
Want to bet which one of these pedophile enablers committs suicide first? My only comfort is knowing Sandusky will have his a**hole ripped open every day in prison until his inevitable death
Naw....He will PC up as soon as he gets there. If he gets there...remember that little thing called the Statute of Limitation. He will only get tried on tip of the iceberg regarding his crimes. Sandiphile will live with other pedophiles in PC. Too bad really, but that is the law. The people that we think should get raped in prison are never the ones that are--usually, first time offenders, not affiliated with a gang, blond, slight build, nonviolent, and they are put in with lifers or inmates with long sentences and nothing to lose.
Eltex - That's exactly what I thought when I read this. Absolutely, I believe this guy should be prosecuted for this. He did it and has not paid the consequences.
But, the same with this Judge! The amount of time that has gone by should not be the deciding factor on whether or not someone is punishable.
If Sandusky, is prosecuted, I hope I see backlash on the Judge's case also!
Might be better if they don't prosecute him and just let some-one else deliver his fate! How about the accusations of them pimping out these kids to others? Rack and file the whole bunch of them and stick them on an Island with the kids parents.
Ramrod sandusky is surely sick and will probably claim he was insane at the time, did you do this mr sandusky? yes your honor, I'm just crazy about this stuff.
These two cases are not even remotely related. Yes, the judge has anger issues, yes he should not be spanking his sixteen/seventeen year-old. But it was hardly a sexual offense with an unrelated minor.
Jeez, maybe they should change the name to Pedophile State. My cousin graduated from there when I was in grade school. I can guarantee you my cousin is a pedophile just like Sandusky. As far as I'm concerned, having been a victim, throw the book at them and anyone who hides them too.
JerseyKat, so sorry you were a victim. It's absolutely sickening that this went on for so long and you can't tell me Paterno and the others did not know about it! All they cared about was themselves and their stupid @ss football games! B@sturds!
Sara Lee, the worst part is my cousin was the pride and joy of the family and the first to graduate college. I was just a little kid and nobody would have taken my word against his. I never told anyone except one of my sisters when I was grown. My cousin is now a big millionaire who travels with globe and I won't have anything to do with him. I hope in his travels he isn't trolling for young girls, but he probably is.
Kaybeetoys, My cousin was caught red-handed in the act - his wife walked in on us - by then I was about 13 - he was giving me a shower, getting read for the act. By then, I could have become pregnant! His wife did nothing, but hustled me into the car and out of there. Since then, they act as if nothing ever happened. This is a big part of the problem. People sweep these things under the rug. I didn't say anything because my cousin was the pride and joy of the family and I don't think anyone would have believed me. Reporting this type of abuse can be problematic because the victim is sometimes looked on as a troublemaker. Because I have been a victim myself, I know if I ever witnessed any form of child abuse, I would report it, scream and holler, carry a sign or whatever it would take to get the attention of the authorities and hope they act. It's a terrible situation.
JerseyKat, that's absolutely horrible. You didn't deserve to be molested or to be ignored. Has the statute of limitations run out on this crime against you? If not, I'd encourage you to go to the police.
Your cousin should be paying for counseling for you at the very least.
JerseyKat, I understand fully. My father's whole family turned against me when I testified in court about years of molestation. I was 13 when I testified, but the abuse had been going on for years. Astounding, isn't it? My father died last year, and I hadn't seen him or his family since I was 13 -- many, many years ago. They didn't even mention he had a daughter in his obituary. The pain is always with you, but it makes you strong -- it really does.
I wish you love -- not everyone is evil. Most of all, I pray the Universe rains down the blessing of healing upon you and protects you and your family --- always.
If Sandusky is found guilty they should put him in a cell with three of the worst Sex offenders in the prison. In fact they should call other prison's and see who their worst offenders are and bring them to Sandusky's cell. This guy need's to to be on the other end of the stick so to speak.
For many years as a social worker, I have dealt with these situations coming out of the schools, churches, homes, everywhere. There is no difference between Penn State covering up (all the way to the top) and churches of any religion that do the same thing. They're all filthy with this abomination and destruction of children's lives. May they ALL rot in hell along with those who try to cover it up.
My hope is that the law suits that will come will bankrupt this university system of pedophilia. And SHAME ON THE STUDENTS RIOTING IN SUPPORT OF JOE PATERNO. Let it happen to one of their brothers, sisters, friends and we'll see what happens to the support. It is atrocious to think they are more in support of that football system than the victims who have suffered because of this.
Those students rioting probably didn't even know what they were rioting about...just a bunch of hoods wanting to start some crap and damage some property! Bunch of dumb-asses!!!
Sara Lee - I almost hope that is the case. Just because it makes it even more disheartening - if that is even possible - to think they would rather defend that football program over the victims of these atrocities. Jon Stewart had really good insight into this on last night's program.
"They're all filthy"? NO. There are Some people in any institution with human beings that are going to do bad things, and there are Some functionaries who are only worried about having "problems" and bad publicity. You are much too negative about everybody. Don't coat everybody with slime.
Unfortunately, they keep them separate from other inmates - for that reason (that the other criminals would rape/torture them.) My husband - now a Deputy Sheriff - used to be a detention officer. Sex offenders, pedophiles - had their own floor/cells. At least that is how it is in Harris County, Texas. Imagine it is run the same way in other places. Believe me - I would love for this guy to get a taste of what he has done to these poor kids. Makes me physically ill.
That old Fart Paterno should have his butt hauled into court for not calling the Police on this guy. In my opinion he shares a lot of the blame in this thing. I hope the parent's of these kids Sue his butt too. And those punks that Rioted ought to be sued for Damages and then thrown out of the college. What a lame excuse for a college.
Tony...and once more the grammar and punctuation police arrive right on schedule. No thought to the message, just humiliate the messenger. Class act to be sure...to bad you didn't learn any manners in school or at home.
Some of these educators claim to have seen a boy/boys being abused and reporting to their bosses what they saw, yet does it mot bother anyone that once they reported this, they never foloowed up on the boys' health and welfare? They just promptly washed their hands of the situation and more or less forget the child and what he was being subjected to. They call themselves educators and teachers who look after the welfare of their charges but do nothing to help the child. Shame on all of you!
I apologize for the misspelling and sometimes disjointed comment but this is awful and it makes me so mad that money seems to be more important that a child's welfare.
NO need unicorn....Nobody on the spelling and grammar police appear to be on the thread today...Sometimes they are out in full force. Seems that the subject material is of more concern than whether you make a typo or a grammatical error. Not to worry. I just wonder why there is so much sympathy for a coach that has been lucky enough to keep his job for 60 some years and cover up pedophiles in the process. He probably didn't want it to end this way, but his actions (or inaction) are what led to his demise. I am sick of the picture of him walking forlornly on the football field. He has has a wonderful life and career and should be thankful he was fired when they found out that he buried this as the over imagination of a graduate student. Can you explain to me why there is so little sympathy for the victims?
Actually, they didn't believe the grad student....They thought that he was overstating the incident and wouldn't act on his word. What was he supposed to do then? It was his word against Sandiphile's. He probably didn't know the boy and couldn't identify him--he saw him from behind. If I saw something like that, my reaction would have been shock, horror, and disbelief. I would have doubted my own eyes for awhile--but, like McQueary, I would have reported it to my mentor and hero...Sure that he would know the correct course of action. Now, the students are throwing the whistle blower under the bus. They need more ethics classes at Penn. State and less football.
Thanks kat. I read your story and am amazed at what one human can do to another just to get their jollies. So much pain for such a long time...and the victim is often victimized again by their own family and the court system. I am so sorry that this happened to you--and to me. Still, what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger and you are a strong person, no doubt about it.
The prison systems now have so many pedophiles in them they have formed their own groups. The other prisoners pretty much leave them alone. Coach Paterno sickens me.....how can you not want a guy like that off your staff? In my opinion Penn State needs to clean out everybody................it was reported 'upward' by Joe Paterno. Who else didn't react? How can you forget them? Sounds like football was the prize, young boys were sacrificed for that prize. Obviously serious lack of moral character in that school. I'd run as far away from it as I could if I were there.
U...I agree. I don't think this University deserves an athletic team. They need to concentrate on educating young men and women. They have lost their credibility to put people before "wining." They are winners just like Charlie Sheen.....
There is more than just reporting a problem to a supervisor, there is a moral obligation to make sure it is reported to the correct person/authorities. If this was stopped when he was in the shower with the one boy how many more would have been saved from this sick person. Gossip talks people know, think of all the dirty gossip you know and how it travels. More people had to know or suspected and did nothing. How many lives were hurt by all of the ones you knew and did nothing. I hope his day comes in prison, he can have all the shower/forced sexual experiences he wants.
When Sandusky does go to prison, they should put him in a women's prison. From what we know, he will enjoy a men's prison too much. Sad to say but true.
It appears that Sandiphile made this the price of admission to the big leagues. "I'll make you a star." Sad and sick. What poor teen wouldn't want a chance at the gold ring? And what price would they pay to go to these games and on trips with this slime bag?
Three questions. With abuse dating as far back as 1998, what was the reason for it's publicity surfacing now? Was McQueary's silence related to his present employment? Is this yet one more example of making an end run around the statutes of limitation for the purposes of avoiding monetary obligations?
I want to know what happened to the DA Gricar. I hope they reopen that investigation. I don't believe in a coincidence that says he decided NOT to charge Sandusky in 1998, then disappears---after doing Internet searches for 'how to destroy a hard-drive.' Scenario #1--Gricar had computer conversations with someone who convinced him not to prosecute, and was either blackmailed into destroying the evidence on his computer, then bumped off, or Scenario #2--he went into hiding. Declared legally dead this year, that's pretty good hiding, but not too impressive if they aren't REALLY looking for you.
Considering the sheer numbers of human beings involved in the knowledge and cover up, and/or lack of enforcement and penalization of Sandusky's actions, I don't think we can even imagine what is to come. This will make some journalist's career. I'll bet it's as big as Watergate.
I am NOT trying to ignore the victims as I post this. I am so disgusted that I feel gritty myself just by reading about it. I have two young boys of my own, and I can tell you that if they were victims, I would be in jail for murder. That said, while everyone pretty much feels complete compassion for the victims---myself included---I am still fascinated by the intricacies of the story, the longevity, and the unbelievable scope. I hope no one blasts me for this. I am a researcher/writer by trade and you just can't make this stuff up.
Bring that pedophile down here to Texas and we'll give him a nice room in Huntsville. I am sure the boys down there will welcome him with open arms.
This story just gets more and more sick.
I agree!
Ram -
You are so right.
Chuck...Paterno already said in public..."I should have done more." Do you think he was talking about getting the yard lines highlighted?
Chuck,
Perhaps Paterno followed procedure. Even so, he should still be fired. McQueary came to him after having witnessed Sandusky raping a little boy. I hope none of us are ever such slaves to procedure.
McQueary and Paterno are cowards.
McQueary is not even a man.
Mark-292995 says:
Mark - You are reported for violating the Newsvine CoH.
I have no love for Paterno or the Penn State team or PSU. I do however have a love for justice, for civil rights and for guaranteed personal rights.
@Shel Rama - Paedophilia and homosexuality are two entirely different things. Please educate yourself.
mark - apology accepted.
Chuck,
Don't let the door hit your a$$ on the way out. If you are against speculation then you are in the wrong place. That's exactly what these forums will give you. Rather than complaining and judging others you can simply stay away. Mark was right the first time, if you are expecting anything less when you log on to Newsvine.
Where was Rick Perry around the time of the Alamo Bowl? Anybody?
terrials -
DING DING DING!
Mark-292995, you are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
@ lolly -
You imply that I have no right to an opinion if it doen't match yours?
Has Sandusky claimed they are all lying yet? I heard he is asking for Cain's lawyer.
Uh Oh Texas, Sandusky will be toast there....as he should be pervert!
RC -
That is what I mean when I say that McQueary is not a man.
To walk out and leave that boy in the clutches of that filthy predator is beyond inhuman.
Coward.
coward? or opportunist?
Harold,
The Campus Police's authority does not trump State and Federal Law.
Let's castrate this POS then throw him in prison for life.
I'm sure in prison he would get plenty of his own medicine, if you know what I mean!!
Try him, then take the sick bastard out and shoot him twice. Once in the nuts and once in the head to end it. Put him out of our misery.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he committed suicide before prison (not that I want him to do that). It's pretty well known what happens to pedophiles in prison.
Put him in a women's prison.
McQuery will not be charged because they need his testimony. It is sad but true. He could use a few days in a cage with Bubba and no one coming to his aid. Maybe he might fully understand what that poor boy went through. Sandusky will hopefully become Bubba's unwilling lifetime partner!
Susan, I'm with you. He'd enjoy being raped my men too much.
wic
Not the way Big Bubba the butt devestator does it.
I would love to hear next how he gets gang raped repeatedly in prison. Oh, wait, he'd probably enjoy that.
Mark in Exton,
Confession means nothing. To enter Heaven, he would have to truly repent for what he has done. Remember, there is nothing secret from the Lord. I don't see any repentance in him. He looks like he's smirking in most of the pictures.
Send him to prison!
I am sure "Bubba" will take good care of him in prison! He won't last a month in general population without someone taking him out permanently. Not condoning it; but that is they way it usually works.
C'mon, plenty of space here..along with our own brand of justice.
Sandusky should be prosecuted for every attack/assault he perpetrated against these young and vulnerable boys. Yeah...lt him come to Texas for a trial...he would never leave the great State of Texas alive.
"let him not it him" sorry for typo
Yep. Totally agree.
Dr. B...I couldn't agree more. Seriously, a ten year old boy? Why the loyalty to someone that called these boys "victims or whatever?" Do you know?
It would easily explain all those little perks he got from them, including access to the grounds and an on-campus office, while still hunting for little boys to rape at his pleasure.
calling ourselves "a just society" demands that we deal effectively with adults in a position of trust who victimize children
Hey JoPa ,,Imagine if it was your 10-15 year old grandchild ,,who would YOU have told then!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably would depend of if the grandchild was good at football....
But it was hardly a sexual offense with an unrelated minor.
jb98, so then a sexual offense is okay if the minor is related?
JerseyKat, I'd encourage you to share this information with someone in your family whom you can trust to help you bring it to light.
There is no reason to let your cousin get away with what he did to you. And you know those people never stop unless they're stopped.
This guy need's to to be on the other end of the stick so to speak.
castorate sandusky!!!!!
Sandusky may never make it to trial. Inmates kill pedophiles.
Paterno won't live long enough to see the lawsuits settled. This will take years and he's 84.
I agree. Paterno should face charges too.
Your punctuation needs some work tarzan....did you get thrown out of school?
Tony...and once more the grammar and punctuation police arrive right on schedule. No thought to the message, just humiliate the messenger. Class act to be sure...to bad you didn't learn any manners in school or at home.
i love's punctuation...yep ...it's all bout period's...dot dot dot...
I agree, 10000%, Colorblind!
They are going to rename the team "The Nittany Fudge Packers" :-O
I think it is a shame that these "men" could turn their backs on the torture of a child. How do they sleep at night?
Hopefully they can't now. I hope the bastards have a heart attack.
He raped that boy and as I understand raped another. He better be charged with rape.
If the truth be know....over 15 years...a pedophile will likely have 50 or more victims before getting caught. Sad but true.
Oops...me too...Should have said "known." This subject makes me pretty riled up.
I think a lot more people at Penn State know about these incidents than what is being said at this time. It is bad for sure.
