I really wish I could read just one article without a stupid comment blaming everything on Obama.
New England gets hit by a freak snowstorm? OBAMA. Christmas decorations being put up before Halloween? OBAMA.
Obama said, the day he was elected, that it would take more than four years, maybe more than eight, to fix the economy, jobs, etc., and that he couldn't do it all by himself - he said he would need the help of the American people. So why did people forget about this? Why do people still blame him when he runs into blockade after blockade? He can't pull jobs out of thin air, he needs the rest of the government to COOPERATE.
Only an stupid OWS can shoot himself, liberals make a big deal about an Tea Party showing a gun in a pro gun rally , "Princess Pelosi" call TP terrorist and now what we got. Police must start searching for guns and weapons to all OWS. Michelle Bakckman have to be carefully he can be shoot by the OWS mob.
Republican commenters here sure enjoy their Schadenfreude. Unfortunately it is a mischievous delight in the misfortunes of others, which remains the worst trait in human nature.
To celebrate the death of a troubled veteran..... you show the compassion that is so lacking in your Pub/TP Party
No, this is not about a veteran , this is about the real irresponsable OWS carrying guns during their rallies of protest, who goes to a pacific protest with a loaded gun if he is not going to use it, who could be his target, what where their intentions , I think it was better he soot himself and not other people.
Who is paying for all their food and medical care? Yahoo did research and found it was George Soros and Adbusters (a Canadian anti capitalist group). So while most of the country is trying to work, these people are complaining. Why don't they occupy the White House and the democrats in Congress? The Clinton admin mandated banks give home loans to unqualified buyers and the dems repealed Glass Stegall. The dems give away all the money for votes. Now we are in hock up to our eyeballs. The dems are in bed with the big wall street firms. The little guys all struggle.
Obama said, the day he was elected, that it would take more than four years,
But that's not what he was saying BEFORE he was elected. Back then he had a whole list of promises he has failed to live up to, which is, of course, the problem.
This is because said Republicans don't actually send their own into the warzone. Most of the people they hate are the ones that are protecting their freedoms and taking bullets for them. They rode the "love the military! Support the Government! PAAAATRIOTISM!" train for so many years, now it's shown thanks to them they can't even get health care, keep their homes while away over seas, feed their families... you get the idea.
These people fought for a country they loved, and now it refuses to change. Their shoving it down the toilet as fast as they can. "No regulations! NO UNION! I WANT TO LIVE IN CHINA DAMMIT!". These catcalls from the majority of Republicans, and the fact Wall Street will never pay for their evils have pretty much doomed them all... and us.
What a refreshing post. I hope you make it! This country needs more people like you who assume responsibility for themselves rather than trying to pull others down or waiting for it to be handed to you or blaming everyone else.
Thank you, Canman, for your kind and complimentary post. Perhaps one day this country will get back on track; we'll need a big push though, but I know we can do it. It's all about leadership, and right now there is none coming out of Washington. Let's hope soon things will change....
I knew that I would come on here and see Republicans happy and cheering that a life was lost. The "pro-life" crowd once again shows its true colors... the blood-lust in the GOP runs deep.
The other day I heard a Republican try to tell people that they are caring people, that they have compassion... I laughed. THIS is who Republicans REALLY ARE: a group that cheers for death, a group devoid of compassion, a group that would rather see a million people burn than be forced to pay an extra cent in taxes. THIS is the true Republican party.
This country needs more people like you who assume responsibility for themselves
Responsibility for themselves???
You mean like taking responsibility for your own circumstance, instead of blaming Obama?
Oh no, wait... you only want liberals to take responsibility for themselves. When it comes to YOUR party, it's all Obama's fault.
Oh you poor baby. That mean old president if responsible for your personal situation. Here, let me get you a tissue to wipe away the tears. You are not responsible for your own failures, it's ALL Obama's fault. You have never done anything wrong... always blame Obama.
former-GOP.......I am conservative and Pro-Life....for the innocent, NOT the stupid. You can't compare the two. Oh and ah.....we are better off without you.
@Eric, re. the above post: it's "fomer" not "former" -- my money is on he goofed when securing his username, hence to your point: he's better off in the Dem/Socialist/Food-Stamp party. It's a perfect fit.
The other day I heard a Republican try to tell people that they are caring people, that they have compassion... I laughed. THIS is who Republicans REALLY ARE: a group that cheers for death, a group devoid of compassion, a group that would rather see a million people burn than be forced to pay an extra cent in taxes
And reading your post should I assume that ALL democrats will use the actions and statements of a few to demonize an entire group of people? No, of course not, doing something like that would make me seem like an idiot.
To those who are posting negative, hateful comments: Did you bother to read the article?
This man is a veteran. So he serves our country and some of you all make comments like those above? He served our country to protect our freedoms (regardless of where he served and under what circumstances). That goes for your freedom to sit on your butts with your computers and make derogatory comments about his death.
And reading your post should I assume that ALL democrats will use the actions and statements of a few to demonize an entire group of people? No, of course not, doing something like that would make me seem like an idiot.
Yet it is perfectly acceptable for Republicans to use the actions and statements of a few (OWS protestors) to demonize an entire group of people.
Oskar...#1.6...... So those guns and automatic weapons that the teabaggers were parading about at their rallies were just pretend/toy guns huh... Really?... really? ... wow!
Who knew? ... Well....Smack me silly and call me Dancing Spider, Nevada and or Jim....
he's better off in the Dem/Socialist/Food-Stamp party. It's a perfect fit.
Nevada-Bret
Coming from the guy who does not understand the word "Socialist" and what it really means... that hurts, really.
At least some of the more intelligent Republicans have been able to admit that the term "Socialist" is completely incorrect, and a different word would be more accurate. Of course, you would not fall into that group.
Wow!!!! It seems to me it was "Mr." Obama that wanted the Military to pay for their own insurance because they knew when they joined the military the risks they were taking. Guess you forgot that little tidbit!! Oh and guess you also forgot lots of the Republicians in Washington served in the military. You have a very faulty memory or just chose to forget somethings!!!!
Liberals, sitting around protesting, waiting for Republicans to take care of you, theyre not, you better learn to take care of yourselves, because if you dont, nobody else is going to do it for you. You think anybody cares about your stupid demands, here's some news for you, they dont. You think somebody is going to risk their hard earned money to create jobs just for the sake of creating them because youre out of work, guess what, theyre not. Protest all you want, sit out there and beat your bongo drums til you starve to death, nobody cares. Either become a productive member of society, or leave it, its up to you.
Tea Parties, not teabagers has you call, don't carry guns at their rallies , the only picture that show a T/P activist with a gun was in a pro-gun rally. It was protest against liberals and Democrats who are against our constitutional right to carry concealed guns. There is not record of a single arrest during the "violent" Tea Party rallies but so far about 1000 arrest during the "peaceful" OWS protest. Difference matter.
God forbid, don't blame Obama for anything bad, just give him all the credit when things go good! It's just a matter of time when this OCW crap goes bad and people are really going to get hurt, just thank your liberal media and the left for adding fuel to the fire, oh sorry I mean it's Bushes fault!
Liberals, sitting around protesting, waiting for Republicans to take care of you,
That's funny as no one is taking care of me and I'm a liberal and not once have I griped about taking care of the tens of millions of republicans in the welfare systems. Not once.
Oskar,...#1.29.. considering the baggers were carrying weapons I am doubtful that the police would have arrested anyone if you all had become violent.... after all you were trying to intimidate everyone.... weren't you?
Seeing that in some states there are laws on the books allowing open or consealed carry, it is concievable that there were weapons at those other rallies too, don't you think?.
It is so easy to beat up and subdue a group of unarmed protestors excercing their constitutional right especially when they are protesting against the graping of our economy at the hands of these corporate/rich protected folks with enormous reach into our government from the local to the federal level.....
Well perhaps you like to be a serf.... the OWS protesters all over the country are saying that they will not be serfed and they do not have to carry weapons to boost their courage to stand up to greed and power....
Yet it is perfectly acceptable for Republicans to use the actions and statements of a few (OWS protestors) to demonize an entire group of people.
How deliciously hypocritical of you.
First off, I'm not a republican. Second- ROTFLMAO!!!! YOU are calling me a hypocrite? I don't judge the entire OWS crowd by the actions of some, even though the troublemakers are quickly overwhelming the rational folks who started the movement. YOU are the one who just judged every republican by the statements made by a couple of people here. Do you even know what a hypocrite is or do you just revel in the fact that you are one? LOL!
btw- your screen name might just be the biggest piece of BS I have EVER seen on Newsvine, and that's sayin' something.
mikela "That's funny as no one is taking care of me and I'm a liberal and not once have I griped about taking care of the tens of millions of republicans in the welfare systems" you crack me up!!
Tens of millions Republicans most certainly are not in the welfare system. We all know by looking at election maps where the welfare / entitlement critters live and it sure isn't anywhere but the big cities that they breed like rats and vote dem so they can continue getting their checks. You will note that the red areas on the maps are everywhere but the big cities and these people who are in those areas generally own property, are Republicans and vote as such.
This entire thread of comments is what is wrong with our country. Its not the republicans, not the democrats fault, it is all our fault. Instead of attacking each other berating each other, can we work to solve problems instead of constantly pointing fingers?
The only way to improve our situation is to work together and compromise. The more negativity we throw at each other, the deeper the divide will be. Do you not think that our enemy sees what is happening and is taking complete delite in our inability to function as a nation and a people?
The genuine problem with our country is greed, first and foremost. Oh, Liberals just want to be taken care of! No. We're tired of getting screwed by our overlords, and having our freedoms taken away. Osama Bin Laden had 4 planes hijacked and flew them into buildings. Wall Street and the Banks ended up sending the entire country into a depression just to fatten their wallets. So tell me who the biggest goddamn terrorist in this situation is.
We want our freedoms back. We want Wall Street and the crooks that did this to pay up for what they did. We want the 1% to stop crushing the 99% with the sheer amount of green paper they have, and the idiots that allow themselves to be oppressed like that. We're not asking for freaking handouts, or for the Government to pay our way through life.
Yet thanks to you we're in this pit, and we have the bottom of that 99% fighting for the 1%. For all intents and purposes, Social Darwinism would have had you erased off the face of the Planet a long time ago, yet even with such vile stupidity, you've continued to exist! It perplexes, and might just be the corner stone to proving that humans never evolved at all.
Your arrogance is unacceptable...People w/Masters degrees aren't finding jobs and for the rest of the 99% there are 4-8 people for every job opening, for what little openings there are...
I'm sure you agree w/mr. cain's self serving, snotty comment; ..."If you're out of work and not wealthy then it's your own fault"
Educate yourself. Seriously, your comments are litter with so much ignorance that it is sad. Read about Freddie and Fannie, and how Govt forced other banks to DO. Do that. As far as calling them terrorists, that's not ignorance, that is idiocy. If you want things changed, the tell the OWS to go to DC, as it's the Lobbyists that are the issue and Obama has the "fattest" CATS of all...fact.
We, isn't I, so grow up and be ONE and not claim you are something that you aren't. Again, DC intertwining themselves with Wall Street and others is the problem, but with Robin Hood in the office you surely won't look there.
Look, I grew up in a single wide trailor, my parents and grands busted their tail, and while I'm not rich, I'm ok. I live w/o many things I want, would NOT have a cell phone if not for my job. Would not have a computer if not for job. Maybe people like YOU, unwilling to DO what my grandparents and greats did...get your hands, fingers and elbows dirty, dig ditches, figure it out, instead of blaming someone else. There's plenty of way to fix inequities, DC has to address that, and moronic venom towards people with wealth, many of which are NOT part of the group you so venomously attack are being hurt. Maybe you are the MISSING LINK. pathetic
Jerry...#1.39... it appears that you do not realize that grandparents, parents and even greatgrandparents want their offspring to do better, achieve more than they did....
So if your grandparent was a ditch digger maybe he/she may want you to be an engineer or a building project manager who tells others where the ditch is to be dug.... that is usually how parents, grandparents view the next generation.
It may also be that they would want you to do so well that you are the one who owns the land and the building that is being put upon it instead of just repeating the patterns of the past i.e. be a ditch digger.... There is nothing wrong in doing these jobs but at some time one must evolve and be better and achieve more than the past generation....
The problem arises when one's progress or ability to move forward, evolve, achieve greater things in life is limited on purpose by a small percentage of the population because they feel they have the power over the lives of others due to their greed and enormous wealth.
So now- even with all the sacrifices the person and his/her family have made, education sought and completed now resulting in enormous debt etc through no fault of one's own and with all that education and promise you still can't find a job, not even digging ditches.
Why? Because of the shortsightedness, greed and unscrupulous and even illegal behaviour of the few being levied at the many. That is what makes folks protest.... the loss of their dreams and hopes for a better future, loss of their homes, jobs, job opportunitites due to outsourcing overseas, loss of their pensions, 401ks, savings, health care insurance etc and loss of independence and being able to stand on one's own feet instead of being reduced to accepting or depending on the public safety nets... which by the way these selfish, greedy few folks also want to have taken away from the many.
The greedy, selfish heartless conscienceless few also want to take away or put stumbling blocks in ones path regarding and including one's freedom to vote, to control and have ownership over one's own body/reproductive decisions, to marry whom one choses, one's right to privacy, to move about the country freely without being stopped or thrown in jail because of one's colour/ethnicity/dress/accent etc, to join a union and collectively bargain, worship as one choses, and to join the Armed Forces irrespective on one's sexual orientation etc.
We are being serfed.... and the majority of the 99%ers refuse to be serfed or to accept that quietly. The OWS protesters around the country want to be heard and recognized as people with hopes and dreams and who are willing to work hard to achieve their goals and pay their debts support their family etc.
They want the elected 'leaders' to do the jobs they were elected to do by the many, i.e work on behalf of them, create jobs as they promised, rebuild the infrastructure, bring the soldiers home, care for the people of this country first, protect the environment, protect our water, air and land etc.
The 90-99%ers want our leaders to apply the law fairly across the board including investigating and reporting on the cause of the financial collapse etc to include jailing those who broke the law or punish those who caused this housing and financial collapse etc through their lax self-policing or lack of proper oversight.
The 90-99%ers want our elected leaders to not only care about and work on behalf of the top 1-10%ers i.e. their big donors only..... as they seem to be or are doing now.
The 90-99%ers want the elected leaders to work actively work at solving the problems in this country instead of stalling, wasting time, and talking at cross purposes, disagreeing with each other, perhaps to cover up the fact that they are cutting necessary public safety nets, defunding important services, removing necessary rules, regulations and other safeguards.....
Unfortunately the goal post have been moved and to now being removed entirely as the majority of the 99% do not seem to matter anymore, and are being forced to accept lower and lower wages while working longer hours if they are lucky enough to even have a job, and to shut up and quietly accept the misery of their meager existence.
The OWS protesters are saying they 'will not go quietly into the night'... to serfdom to suit you or folks of your ilk who it seems would perfer to tug your forelock to , and accept whatever table scraps you are given by those top 1-10% ers who you may believe are your betters.
You may not read this epistle ..... but what ev.....
I haven't heard anything about someone taking away your right to make choices.
If they have, please point out the links to these facts!
I would like to read it.
Until someone proves that our right to make choices is being taken away, everything spouted on here is just trashy propaganda.
This country was founded on personal choice and taking responsibility for those individual choices we make.
Although the political class is trying hard to con us into giving up our god given right to choose, up to this point in time they have failed. the 2010 midterms were just a small reminder of this fact, the 2012 main event is when that reminder becomes a revolution.
Personally, my opinion is it isn't going to happen without a lot of bloodshed.
"This entire thread of comments is what is wrong with our country."
reb84, I couldn't agree with you more!
As for OWS, I am an OWSer and I fully support the basis of the movement. I have been an independent businessman and voter for the majority of my life. I own two companies now...down to two because of the economy...and I dare anyone to call me a "hippie/bum". And to anyone who is vilifying this man a veteran on today of all days Veterans Day; you should be ashamed of yourself, ARE responsible for this country's main problem and should take a good long look at yourself in an attempt to find the humanity that would allow you to feel the shame that you should.
1.5, 2 deleted, Jim-952823, DAVE-610645 deathwishing people - other folks at the protest, 99% of the country, respectively. Don't. You're suspended for a day for violating #5 of the Code of Honor.
You are only exposing yourselves and your parents as worthless scum.
So according to you, then only republicans work and own homes and businesses and the rest of us you put in a class with the illegals and think we are robbing you blind...
The truth being that you truly are blind to the plights of this nation. Thats why this nation is stagnated. The majority of you republicans believe the garbage you just wrote. They think they will be immune from the garbage your regressive party is attempting to push this nation into. I like that you people actually believe that. The more you spread it and the louder you voice it, the more you will be heard. It will work wonders for you in the Nov 2012 elections.
Egilman,...#1.42.... I do not understand what you are trying to say with your opening statement of .......
I haven't heard anything about someone taking away your right to make choices....
and then to note in your last paragraph.......
Although the political class is trying hard to con us into giving up our god given right to chose, up to this point they have failed.......
Frankly there are many of our rights that are being stripped away ..... you only realize that they are gone after the fact.... like the saying goes... you only know the well is dry, when you go for water and find there is none.... LOL
There is no specific law taking away our right to make choices..... rather there are laws that serve to limit the choices we have or can make....LOL
I don't really disagree with your comments in #1.46.
What I am saying is that we can either sit down and whine like a two year old, or, we can be adults and change it, get involved, be a part of the solution not part of the problem.
Most people in my neighborhood view OWS and part of the problem not part of the solution. The ones that do view it as the solution, are my neighbors children many of whom for the most part haven't left home yet. (some as old as 22) They get very vocal about their views until most of the adults just get up and walk away.
Until they chose to take responsibility for themselves they are part of the problem not part of the solution. This is more along the lines of what I was talking about.
"Adams said Portland police and federal officers will be working together to end the encampments, including any protesters remaining at Terry Schrunk Plaza."
It's notable the too-big-too fail banks owning our government have now unleashed "federal officers"-- who are not even supposed to exist-- to assault the peaceful protesters.
Of course, it's the DOJ and SEC have completely failed to hold Wall Street accountable regarding subprime, or anything else. As illustrated by Matt Taibbi's recent expose on corruption in the SEC enforcement division, available in Rolling Stone online, it's clear the very folks we pay to protect us are now corrupted tools of Wall Street criminals.
And now they are unleashing the "federal" thugs against peaceful protesters. It's extreme hubris that the very entity that largely fueled the fraud-- the federal government-- is now cracking the skulls of the citizens protesting the fraud.
Of course, the shredding of the Constitution in countless states illustrates the extreme criminality of those who have co-opted and destroyed our government. This is high treason, I submit.
Explain to us all, please, your brilliant logic in wanting to give the people you think are there to protect you more duties given you conclude they are corrupt. How about we do something really different? How about we accept the fact that people are flawed, and that when government channels behavior we build bigger, and more flawed, bubbles, and that if we simply let the markets work we will continue to have bubbles, but they will always be smaller and less damaging to the larger economy?
That, or we could go your way and employ more people who will become corrupt to protect us from ourselves. Brilliant.
If the protesters were peaceful, they would not even have a run-in with the police. Some of the protesters actually have an agenda. The rest are nothing but trouble-making pieces of crap, and I think that would include you WTFWTF
" to assault the peaceful protesters". Are these the same peacedull protesters that threw rocks and bottles at the police as they pulled up to the protest, before they even left their cars? also, when you are given a lawfull order and you dont comply, well, you really should comply, if you dont you deserve what you get
The tv footage of police in riot gear, stabbing unarmed and unagrressive students, at the front of the crowd in Berkley, CA - including girls - was uncalled for and unforgivable. The police were using a night stick with a "stabbing" motion into the "gut" of the students being attacked - some kids turned their book bags around to protect their midsections. I have never seen anything like it, and really, am stunned and upset by what happened last night.
I think the president of UC Berkley should get his/her act together, NOW, or resign.
Ok, Cassandra - we can't have it both ways - we either accept total and complete rights for females to do all the things males get to do such as go to war, play football and so on so don't play the gender game when "girls" start to get some baton action.
And I think that is exactly what the president of the university did: he got his act together and at least now your book bags are getting used.
The old saying applies here: "Don't write a check with your mouth that your butt can't cover."
The "girl" comment is to the issue of how much less physical damage a girl could do to one of the guy cops - as in very little. I have to assume that police officers don't have easily hurt feelings - they can take verbal abuse. Either way, it was sickening to see ANYONE peacefully protesting getting hammered by a baton. Lambs before wolves, it was obscene.
The Cal State system, of which Berkley is one of many in a large state, has a president at each campus - and if these state employees cannot protect their student body - fire them.
My kids are not at that Cal State, but if I saw my kids getting hammered like that, while doing nothing but protesting peacefully - I'd have a lawyer RIGHT NOW. That's how we helicopter suburban moms roll.
The days of worshiping 'markets' ended when the irresponsible Rethuglicans and their Wall Street Over Lords de- regulated Wall Street so that the 'markets' could work their magic...and here we are...
Yes blame it on the people who work and make the world go round. It surely isn't the democraps fault, spending more than they have, and expecting we people who work for a living to buck up and pay for free loaders who are to lazy to get off you ass and support yourself.
You don't get out much do you? There is no such thing as a peaceful protest, because there are ALWAYS individuals in the crowd who think that they can do whatever they want to. The technique of hitting members of a mob in the stomach with the baton is a technique used by officers as a form of riot control, and it is very effective, don't you agree? Oh my! There is violence in America, oh my, whatever shall we do?
You're right. These people are BUMS--So one man fatally shoots himself. Lucky he didn't shoot others in a Massacre--this draws the very mentally ill into the picture.
When people starting gathering in huge numbers, no one know who anyone is or what they are doing there. Is this Woodstock?
It tends to bring out the criminal kooks, who are charged up and show no rationale. The people have weapons---where is the Security Checks? They don't know why they are there, except for free food, to watch the circus, and free med care.
All Protesters go home, and figure out on getting some LEADER to lead your "I don't know what it is for anymore CAUSE--"
Disease, weather related accidents, or illness, sleeping in small tents together also brings "Babies"--Yuck!
Now they are separating the men from the women. Is this called Segregation? What does that tell you?--It is a big FAILURE--no discipline of topic, it will hurt Obama's chances of being a real Leader himself to address this issue.
Where has he been in all the Chaos?. Americans are needing a strong Leader who has some kind of inner strength to talk to people to go home already. Once again, he shows he doesn't care about the People's Welfare, or their circumstances.
OPWS?--"Other People's Waste Stinks"--that is who they are!
Maui2......"Where has he [Obama] been in all the Chaos?"
Sheesh, you must have missed the Obama and Pelosi articles on the OWS protesters. They, and other Congressional Democratic representatives, FULLY SUPPORT this movement.
Wait a minute.....OWS is backed by SEIU.....and.....SEIU's agenda is Mr. Obama's agenda.
Why do you think that Mr. Obama pushed for Students to get "special treatment" for the student loans, or why he pushed to "help" Veterans get jobs ? Nah....couldn't be.....yeah......VOTES !!!!
I did miss the articles, but do know deep in my soul that Obama is loving these Protests, because they represent his Ideology, and if he should say a word, he's lost tons of votes---What the Protesters believe, is what O believes--that's why he is quiet.
This time, he will not have to "Bus" them in, or bribe them into voting for him.
What a way to get votes. These people are the "dregs" of the earth.
Is that the quality of Voter Obama wants---no, actually, he wants them dependent on the Government Programs--an America that is going in a different direction. The different direction will change 2012.
61 per cent of the people against the Economic disapproval can't be wrong.
Would it surprise that about 20 vets a day kill themselves? It is very sad indeed that we dont get the word out about this. Did you know that when you call the VA for assistance they give out the number to call if You are in crisis! PTSD is Terrible and I have personnal experience I could have been that vet yesterday a year ago. I sought out treatment after almost 20 years thinking everything I was going through was normal If you know a vet Tell to get treatmennt somewhere If not the VA then somewhere else Thank you may save a Vets life someday Happy Vetrans Day Jim OB
Ok Dave, so you work for Oakland do ya? My in-laws had 2 Oakland officers living next door to them - making $80k a year as detective and office (wife). Or, more like it, you are one of the dregs from Goldman Sacs, stirring up a little fun.
We have a right to assemble, without having our blood drawn, PERIOD. That vet was not doing anything more than any other protester.
Vets have to follow police orders too. They are not above the law. They can dislike it all they want to so long as they comply and in turn the officers can readily see they are complying.
here is the fundamental difference between the OWS (1%) and the rest of our society (99%) - the OWS believes profits are evil and that businesses and banks should just give everything away for free. The rest of society is in the real world (where things aren't always "fair") not kindergarten.
To simplify for Ferrosynthesis - profits are not criminal in a Capitalist economy. (unless they are confiscated and redistributed then it becomes a Marxist - Socialist economy)
Jay, you are way off base. NOBODY is asking for any company to "give everything away for free"! OWS absolutely NOT about getting "handouts", "freebies" or whatever other token words you people like to use. If you actually believe they are wanting corporations to fail then you obviously have not taken the time to hear the actual message.
Isn't this the way Communism got its start? People wanting to redistribute the wealth of the labors of others? Hand it over for the government to control? How'd that work out?
I'm pretty sure that wasn't the only sign you saw! As we all know the chances of there being one fool present in a crowd of thousands are pretty good. With the comments I am seeing on here it appears there is a large concentration of fools on this one site!
Funny you say these things given that I was listening to Radio Pacifica the other day and the host had three guests on his show from Occupy Oakland, all of which wanted some form of socialism or communism, and each of which demanded plenty of free stuff. Of course they called it their right to the "basic needs of life", but it inevitably is something given to them paid for by others.
Minister Mo'Neeq (yes, you may laugh now) was the most blatant about her demands for free stuff, which was odd given that just minutes before she agreed that people should be more responsible for themselves. What she meant, as it turns out, is that people with money that they've earned should be more responsible to give money to people who do nothing to earn it.
Isn't this the way Communism got its start? People wanting to redistribute the wealth of the labors of others? Hand it over for the government to control? How'd that work out?
The wealth of the labors of others has already been distributed... to Wall Street...
Did you support the largest collective voice in opposition to the bailouts? It was the Tea Party. Or are you more aligned with the Occupiers who claim they are upset about the bailouts, but only because they feel they didn't get free stuff for themselves in the deal? One, the Tea Partiers, want to stop the massive theft from our unborn heirs that continues even today, and the other, the Occupiers, are complacent with this large scale theft if, and only if, they are able to get free stuff for themselves.
The "occupiers" are mostly young, and becoming aware of how they got shafted by "banksters" and "Wall Street" bull. In addition, with the Social Security kitty raided by our esteemed morons in government, they are looking at 2-1 workers to retiree ratios....which of course is asinine and NOT workable. So "someone" is getting caught holding the bag - yeah, the young. I'd be po'd too - more than my kids are, because they are still college students and don't "get" - yet - just how raw a deal this could snowball in to.
My kids are well aware of what our generation has done to them, but they don't blame corporations, or the wealthy. And they certainly know that SS has a soon-to-be 2 to 1 ratio because of something entirely different than surplus funds being invested in treasuries. SS was designed to provide an extra revenue stream for the government as much as anything, else why would it have had a benefit distribution age that nicely paralleled the average lifespan in 1939?
No, SS is in trouble because it is now, and was always, a bad idea, not because it holds trillions in treasury notes. I know, I really do know, the mantra that it helps old people, but there are far better ways to help old people without helping to enlarge the government, or helping to create an entitlement mentality among the people, or stealing billions from minorities and bluer collar whites to give to asians and whiter collar whites.
Whatever you decide to do, please, really, don't blame the failure that is SS on anything being done today. The failure is explicit, if you know economics or actuarial tables, in the 1935 Act itself.
Rich - Just because "ignorance is bliss" doesn't make the scenario for today's students any more acceptable. As Americans, we actually have a RIGHT to assemble and protest as we see fit.
Social Security was NOT supposed to be one's sole retirement, and it will have to be modified to reflect today's realities. If you want to disband SS, then please do SEND ME A CHECK for what I paid in, what my husband paid in (he is at max, fyi, but taxpayers will still be ahead of the game if they just pay him off).
Had to come back to see some responses - so here are links to some of the photos I saw
I'm sure our close friends the Iranians want to see the U.S. succeed
No Communists? Right.
No Socialism, Right?
Sorry, my links didn't post. Suffice it to say the Iranians are burning the American Flag in photo 1 in support of OWS
The Communist party is decrying capitalism and profits at OWS in New York in photo 2 and photo 3 is the Socialists marching in OWS New York. All came from the Bing search Occupy Walstreet Photos. Yes there were loys of photos that said they didn't like corporate welfare as well.
Lovely. So basically this entire thread is brainwashed into thinking that Greed is Good, and that you can break all the rules set to stop from taking advantage of people to earn that extra amount of money, because somehow Capitalist = Only the highest earners are right no matter what they do. I'm under the assumption former Enron cronies are flooding these threads lately, that or descendants of Benedict Arnold.
I'm getting a little sick of seeing this forum flood up with people patting the 1% on the back, acting like the people lording over us all are right, and that these protesters are wrong. At least they have the gumption to TRY and change things, where for some reason you try to defend the very people trying to strip all your rights and protections away so they can get cheap, unregulated SLAVE LABOR.
Then again, the South/Confederacy fought for the highest earning folks so they wouldn't have to pay a poor white man to do what a slave black man would do for free. I stopped expecting any sort of IQ from you folks a long time ago.
The move to create a campus off-shoot of the Occupy Wall Street camps around the country came after hundreds of students, teachers and Berkeley residents rallied on campus before marching peacefully to a Bank of America branch.
This is the best idea yet since tuition hikes at most Colleges is so high that most students have to borrow money, and student loan defaults are expected to be the next financial collapse to happen.
"The university supports the efforts of any group to speak out freely, but everyone is expected to follow campus policies, the law, and respect the rights of others to go to class, to teach, to do their work," campus spokeswoman Janet Gilmore said.
How ironic that a lot of Universites are the birth place of student movements yet do not want the protests to happen in their own back yards. Well, what is good for the Goose, is good for the Gander! This will really be something if what the Universities promotes is what comes back to haunt them.
I worked my way through college. It was easy. No debt upon graduation made it even better. And costs for college continue to rise because government helps to distort the market. Without easy student loans and grants for many students Universities would be compelled to reduce prices since fewer students would attend.
For many people college is a bad deal anyhow. Four years, if they are lucky or fast, and many thousands in debt while not earning much for those four years, and they are unlikely to ever recover the cost of attending. We could do so much better, but we first have to confront this idea that everyone ought to go to college, and second we have to get the government out of the tuition inflation business.
In 1980, my tuition for a private Methodist university in Ohio was a whopping $1400 a semester. Switching to a state school mid way through - it was a few hundred bucks a quarter. Now, the privates are more like $20k plus (Duke is about $45k, as I recall, and Stanford around $42k - before room and board), and Cal State is cheap at about $3500 tuition for a semester.
Not everyone has a grandpa who started a 529 for them. Sure, a kid can work, but there is NO way a full time college student is affording a $20k tuition bill - plus books, etc. No wonder the middle class feels like they are getting shafted - we are lucky in CA that state colleges are "cheap" compared to a number of other states', taxpayer subsidy - Cali has always been forward thinking.
Cassandra, I doubt you have ever held a job - I graduated from college in 1983 after working, grants and loans, got out, took an entry level position (imagine that) and worked off my debt.
The economy in 1983 was terrible and it took a while to get a job...but since I'd had one since I was 11, flipping burgers and working summers in the families traveling carnival (no joke), I was used to hard work.
So, take the nanny-nipple outta yo' mouth, get a job, pay for your education and contribute to society.
PS: no one ever said everyone has to go to an Ivy league school, Duke or any other overly priced school. But if that is your choice - then accept the responsibility to pay....
Dave, for a college boy, you are rather rough. Oh well, I paid off my loan easily, it was only $75 a month - my husband's was $95. We paid our dues, and are fairly traditional people - I was glad to stay at home with my kids, and we could well afford that.
You got me beat at 11, my first job was at 14. But, no one should have to become an embittered adult after forced to work at age 11. Life is not always fair, true - my family was extremely well to do, and my dad was in what was then a 70% tax bracket. Not all of the 99% is at the bottom. NOT only the rich go Ivy League - certainly not me - but if a kid qualifies - society should help them succeed. The "I got mine screw you" mindset will turn America into 3rd world.
I qualified for a couple hundred in Pell Grants, the rest had to come from me. We were working class, no savings, no college fund, no inheritances - so I took work study and loans. The work study was less than minimum wage, so I got myself two part time jobs. I did not have any option of living at home, so I barely made ends meet. So MAW-1297690, I did work my way through. And Rich-281385 it was NOT easy for me and I still have debt I am trying to pay off. And that is not easy either. I DO have a full time job, but money is still tight. Everyone does not have the same experience when it comes to paying for college, so please don't trivialize others or try to make me feel bad because your experience was so much 'easier' than mine.
In both wars the Military industrial complex made/stole billions of dollars and our Veterns who protect the 1% interest come home to a home with no jobs nor syatems to handle the homeless Veterans many of which are being lost! Thank You America!
When your out there fighting for this Nation making huge sacrifices for this Nation and one comes home to No Job and nothing to do the emotional scares begin to fester.
It is a sad state of affairs that the Richest Nation in the World can't take care of the ones whom have made the biggest sacrifices of their generation receive some benefits that our Elected Politician s Vote for themselves then cut from Veteran Admin.
Very few if any Politicians make the sacrifices our Veterans have. But yet Politicians get base pay retirement for the rest of their lives and I think it should be the same for our greatest of the greatest citizens of this Nation!
No money left for them! when we are paying for all the dead beat loosers on food stamps and welfare "people who could work but get hand outs from the gov!.. do you know how much fraud is going on in this country with welfare, disablility..etc!!
We may be paying for some welfare deadbeats, but that is chump change compared to what every man, woman & child will be paying for 2 Tarp bailouts after Wall Street and our banking system shoveled out trillions. Wall Street is the Welfare King - where else can management lose billions of dollars, but still get a frickin' bonus.
try fannie an freddie mac you moron, they are who screw it up your buddies barney frank an chris dodd. look at the millions they are asking for there CO's an then wanting to get billions from the tax payers for there failed bull@!$%#t. an i am a vietnam vet so dont play the vet bull. semper fi vietnam 68-69
In Cali, 2008 and before, there were pizza boys making $20k - a month - peddling mortgages. There were no stops. Deregulation was rampant. Not just with Fannie/Freddie small potatoes houses, multi-million dollar digs were going "zero down" too. All that paperwork, all those bad mortgages packaged and sold - blew up. Then this year, foreclosures came to a screeching halt as "robo-signers" were cranking out improper paperwork - including those notarized!!
Goldman Sacs just agreed to pay back millions of dollars to customers they sold securities to - while they shorted the same stuff out the back door, screwing their own customers!! They agreed to settle the suit to avoid an investigation. Meanwhile, back at the farm, Bank of America is skating a possible dip in their stock price BELOW $5. Citi took a 10-1 REVERSE stock split this year. They were "too big to fail" - the first TARP payout isn't even all accounted for. FYI - BoA has offshore accounts, per Forbes. A LOT of people are feeling betrayed.
Cassandra it was Clintons dem govt that decided everyone should own a home. They forced banks to make bad loans which then became a shuffle game. Everyone was trying to cover their loans and someone came up with the bundle plan which became a giant Ponzi scheme. Once again it was the govt involving themselves in private business that caused the problem. Get govt out of business and allow the market to right itself.
Those ows protesters need to march on DC if they want to change anything. Get their camping gear out of the public parks so families can use the parks again and then they can spend some time in a history class taught by a WWII veteran who will explain the "isms" to them and what happens to countries who adapt them.
what a great country we encourage protest's in other country's but brutalize our on people duing peaceful protest's that have the guts to stand up against the 1% makes me so proud not occupy everthing take a stand make a stand our goverment has abandoned us to wallstreet in the name of the dollar.!!!
The problem is, Wall Street isn't the problem. The White House and the Democratic Congress is the root of the problem. They weren't doing anything illegal, just profiting from what Congress said they could...
They should be camped out across the street from the White House but I don't think Obama would be quite as happy with them as he is about them in NY...
well bro I was in during nam (69-72)got out was spit on got a job worked 40+years and now retired but I don't see the same atvantages for my young friends that want a job because of the greed run wild protest is a right as long as it is peaseful but when goon's inforce the rule of the few on the will of the many all I see is anouther KENT STATE or are you to young to remember O.W.S and anything else that is wrong or evil.!!and to you pappadave i guess bush had nothing to do with it I still say tax the 1%
mikeI am retired and you need to do for yourself. No one but yourself has abandoned anyone. It isn't the governments job to take care of you. The 1 % has what they have because they are smarter than the other 99%. That is the American way , if you want something else then go some where else.
Bush tried many, many times to put the brakes on. Nobody would listen to him, especially after the Democrats took control of Congress. Even before that, the Dems were the overseers of Fannie and Freddie and they kept telling everyone everything was just great...
Remember, Barny Franks bosom (or otherwise) buddy was a big wig in one of them...
bull@!$%# I fought for this country but not to have most of it sold out from under our feet by wallstreet and the nutbag rightwing money grubbers don't get me wrong the left isn't lily white either!
Does no one else find it funny that Harvard students, member almost all of the 1%, are protesting that Harvard gives them the tools to remain in that 1%? If they really wanted to protest they should all drop out of school and lower the number of those in that top 1%.
Harvard has a 5 BILLION dollar endowment fund, and it goes to many middle class or lower kids, of tremendous potential. If those kids are protesting, they should be paid attention to - they ARE the brightest bulbs in the pack.
The irony : Harvard University students protesting wealth disparity. Last I checked, an education at Harvard cost more than most of the 99% make in a year.
Exactly, just like the NYC protesters live in gentrified Brooklyn and Manhattan apartments with astrinomical rents. These people are over priveleged hypocrites.
Most people, not just vets, never ask for help. But it is very common for someone to make the statement, "I am going to kill myself!" or something similar to that in front of people they know. It may even come out as a joke - but it's not - it's usually their final plea for help.
The "story" was about a guy who tried, but apparently didn't succeed in killing himself but they rambled on about all the other Occupy Sites... Must get paid by the inch without any editorial oversight...
The question wasn't about your relatives, douchebag - The question was have YOU served? Judging by your lack of an answer one can infer that the answer is nope. Typical republican bully; worthless white trash - no better that the jackoffs in the republican guard.
Toni, he was a wacko with a gun in a protest for the liberals. If this were a tea party protest you and the media would call him militia right wing christian nut bag but he is a liberal wack job
I think most compassionate people, repub or democrat, wouldn't disparage a troubled veteran. What is your true motivation to celebrate the death of a veteran?
Your comment are not only untoward but you should be embarassed by your ignorance.
The 'Occupy' "movement" (like bowel movement) is a joke. People illegally taking over our parks & schools to protest what, exactly? Wall Street greed? As they greedily take over themselves? Attacking innocent bystanders & cops? Is this going to stop the Corporate greed? Of course not - just another excuse to break the law & get away with it. And now a vet kills himself- while the 'Occupy' people say he "obviously needed more help than we could give him". WTH??
Instead of being Sheeple, I really wish this country would go back to the basics about what is Right & Wrong. We're a little too old for "Follow the Leader".
Oh wait- there IS no adequate leader. Not of this MOVEMENT, not of our STATE, not of our NATION. Pathetic.
Very true - but it's (as always) OUR tax dollars paying the hundreds of thousands of $$ it's costing for these idiots. And that includes the Lap Dogs! :)
If they are following the laws, then let them stay. If they aren't, use rubber bullets. For the uninformed wtfwtf, by your logic, since the DOJ and SEC "broke the law" then everyone can break it according to you...yeah, that will get your point across. I was actually rooting for "OWS" until they started acting like self-entitled children. When they started prohibiting people from going to work, they lost my respect. Hypocrisy is alive and well within "OWS". Blaming the banks for all of this is hypocrisy. The reason this crisis happened is because too many 20 somethings decided that they could buy a 3200 square foot house because they wouldn't really have to pay anything for a few years. Guess what happened? They basically screwed those of us who actually bought a house we could afford. The ones who I feel sorry for are those that did buy homes within their means, and lost them because of the self-entitled idiots who believe that credit is a right. Spend more time studying and less time complaining and maybe you'll be able to make a difference.
Man you are so far off the mark. Debt is all of our problems. This mess is not because of some kids it is because of all the Crony Capitalism. @ wars for oi and poppy Fields.
The lastest World news is this is a world Wide problem not because of a few thousand protesters.
FYI the IMF and the Central Bank said Rich Nations have to pick up the bill!
LOLOLOL...Oh please! Yeah, they sure listened at Teanennman Square...or during Prague Spring, or to those who tried to flee East Germany running through the barbed wire before and after the wall was completed...AND no, I'm NOT a right wing rethuglican...
So what exactly does graveley wounded himself mean? I noticed his "friend" referred to him in the past tense, but does this actually mean that he will likely die?
I find it ironic that the "We are the 99%" movement is encountering most all of its resistance from primarily those that belong in the 99%. The police, city council officials, sheriff department deputies, security guards etc.
These protesters certainly do not represent 99% of the people of this country. They are just hippie wannabe's drugging and drinking just like their grandparents and possibly some parents. The police are finding needles, marijuana, and broken bottles throughout the "camps". So these protesters are well on their way to ruining their livers, building up some great cancer cells, and possibly other incurable diseases while still young. I hear today that some cities have set deadlines to shut down the "camps" and kick these communists out of town.
Federal Reserve is where. Well FYI the Federal reserve is the problem. They are not a part of our Government but they are passing trillions of dollars of debt on you and I right now. The IMF and the Central bank said the rich nations needs to pay the bill for underfunded retirement funds and bank capital. Your paying for it but it is not coming from Washington! NYC!!!!
Hey ProudAmerican Vet... do you like having Uncle Sam sodomize you?
Really? Debt is my problem? Debt is your problem?
I mean, I don't remember the part where I started using non-existant derivatives and robbing Social Security, or the part where I blew through trillions of dollars of taxpayers' hard earned money on military budgets or the EPA or my own buddies. I don't remember selling my soul to the Federal Reserve.
So the debt is not my problem. I have my own debts. I will not pay someone else's debt.
I owe this Nation NOTHING since it will not even provide for a feeling of security, let alone a means of employment, the right to shelter myself, or the right to hunt and gather in order to feed myself. It just wants my money and blood without giving me the right to defend myself as a Man made in God's image.
You need to get rid of your liberal arts degree and go back to high school so you can get some education if you pay attention this time.
The IMF needs to worry about Europe and stay out of our business. Besides China is the only country that can still be considered rich and they sure as hell aren't going to spend a dime for the IMF
Hey Occupiers, I don't know what planet your from, but you are the 1%. Ya'all go shoot yourselves, but do it right. You just may get your wish. Imagine the USA as a third world country. Dictator Obamination takes care of his and the rest of you dumb asses starve. There is only so much of someone elses money you can steal. The rich will go elsewhere and you can suck dirt.
Yes PLEASE reinstate the draft so all these protesters can be used as cannon fodder. 2 problems solved in one fell swoop, useless liberal art degree holders go first, then all the minimum credit degrees. Only Dr's, Engineers and other degrees that actually make people use their brains are exempt.
Tomorrow is Veteran's Day, and it is sad that one of our veterans took his life. We, as a nation, failed him. May he rest in peace. I encourage everyone on this vine to pray for our brave men and women who currently serve in the military to protect our constitutional rights and to honor all our war veterans. And if nothing else, please learn to be respectful and kind to others; some of the posts here are hateful and mean-spirited. God bless the USA.
Nascar, you missed my point completely. What I was saying is this country (including the government) does not do enough to help our troops coming home from deployment and those who are injured in war. I see homeless veterans all the time and that is a shame -- they should have a place to live, food to eat, medical care, and education/assistance to get a job if they are not disabled.
You should learn how to be tactful, polite, and respectful to those whose who post on the vine.
People should be tactful and polite, but unfortunately they buy into the propaganda that has divided them. We are not Democrats vs. Republicans, protesters vs. sheep, etc... we are a mass of Humans, a unique creation capable of compassion and thought. We are not animals, we are creators. The very fact that we are capable of creation is the proof that we are the progeny of a Creator. We need to rise above the forces of Destruction, the ideas that hold us down as a species, and embrace compassion... the only thing that will save us. Perhaps this is why the poor vet felt so hopeless, because we have come so far as a people to have created amazing innovations, but have not embraced the one Revolutionary idea that would make even 15 billion people sustainable upon this earth... LOVE.
I am a boomer whose prime directive was to wage the war of love...
However, this planet CANNOT sustain 10 billion - let alone 15 billion people...no matter how much 'love' there is...Love will not create more water
News Alert;
The mayor in St. Louis has ordered those in Occupy St. Louis to abandon the park in the city they now occupy by Friday or else the police will be called in to make arrests...
Sorry Benjamin, but there are people who contribute more than they consume - and then there are the rest of the nimrods who insist on "being heard" by deliberately preventing others from expressing themselves at venues reserved for that explicit purpose.
This is so sad. It was an act of suicide. I don't know if the young man had depression and was not able to get meds, or if he just gave up, which is how I feel sometimes. 3 years unemployed, but I have spouse who earns an income. Maybe this young man did not have anyone.
It must look pretty desperate and hopeless for the young people.
Don't give up hope. There is always help for you. People, always be ready to share and help.
A 35-year-old military veteran has died at a hospital after shooting himself Thursday in an Occupy Wall Street encampment in Vermont's largest city, a spokesman said.
It was not an accident as the article states, "after shooting himself."
Welcome to Obamaville'
who needs jobs when we can just live in shanty towns,
thanks for the 1 Million Jobs you promised us.
And you believed him? I knew he wasn't able to deliver on his false promises given his questionable background.
I'm part of the 99%, but through dedication and hard work I hope one day to be in the 1%.
Is that so bad, to want the American Dream?
I'm fed up with OWS: Obama's War on Success!
BANG !
D'OH !
Guns and bums don't mix
Only an stupid OWS can shoot himself, liberals make a big deal about an Tea Party showing a gun in a pro gun rally , "Princess Pelosi" call TP terrorist and now what we got. Police must start searching for guns and weapons to all OWS. Michelle Bakckman have to be carefully he can be shoot by the OWS mob.
@spider,jim,oskar You are not offending anyone, but yourselves and your parents. You are only exposing yourselves and your parents as worthless scum.
No, this is not about a veteran , this is about the real irresponsable OWS carrying guns during their rallies of protest, who goes to a pacific protest with a loaded gun if he is not going to use it, who could be his target, what where their intentions , I think it was better he soot himself and not other people.
oskar, Clearly English is not your first language. Go back to school.
These catcalls from the majority of Republicans, and the fact Wall Street will never pay for their evils have pretty much doomed them all... and us.
nevada-brett,
What a refreshing post.
And reading your post should I assume that ALL democrats will use the actions and statements of a few to demonize an entire group of people? No, of course not, doing something like that would make me seem like an idiot.
You can hope all you want, but in the end only 1% of people become the 1%
To those who are posting negative, hateful comments: Did you bother to read the article?
This man is a veteran. So he serves our country and some of you all make comments like those above? He served our country to protect our freedoms (regardless of where he served and under what circumstances). That goes for your freedom to sit on your butts with your computers and make derogatory comments about his death.
Have we really come to this?
Yet it is perfectly acceptable for Republicans to use the actions and statements of a few (OWS protestors) to demonize an entire group of people.
How deliciously hypocritical of you.
Oskar...#1.6...... So those guns and automatic weapons that the teabaggers were parading about at their rallies were just pretend/toy guns huh... Really?... really? ... wow!
Who knew? ... Well....Smack me silly and call me Dancing Spider, Nevada and or Jim....
......Bachmann, Cain, Perry, Romney, Boehner, Ryan, McConnell, Cantor.....
Nuance, nuance, nuance.......
Nevada-Bret
Coming from the guy who does not understand the word "Socialist" and what it really means... that hurts, really.
At least some of the more intelligent Republicans have been able to admit that the term "Socialist" is completely incorrect, and a different word would be more accurate. Of course, you would not fall into that group.
Did you really expect anything else from the Republican party? This is what they do... This is who they are.
ThaMonkeh
This is because said Republicans don't actually send their own into the warzone. Most of the people they hate are the ones that are protecting their freedoms and taking bullets for them. They rode the "love the military! Support the Government! PAAAATRIOTISM!" train for so many years, now it's shown thanks to them they can't even get health care, keep their homes while away over seas, feed their families... you get the idea.

BZe1
Steve - 2081387
Your arrogance is unacceptable...People w/Masters degrees aren't finding jobs and for the rest of the 99% there are 4-8 people for every job opening, for what little openings there are...
I'm sure you agree w/mr. cain's self serving, snotty comment; ..."If you're out of work and not wealthy then it's your own fault"
I heard a new name for the OWS. They are now called the flea baggers.
Tha Monkeh, what, "oops on the keyboard?"
Hey LIBS I don't recall anyone from the tea party shooting themselfs'
BZe1
THE BEST PERSON TO EVER LIVE ON EARTH!, you're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Deb-663949
So according to you, then only republicans work and own homes and businesses and the rest of us you put in a class with the illegals and think we are robbing you blind...
The truth being that you truly are blind to the plights of this nation. Thats why this nation is stagnated. The majority of you republicans believe the garbage you just wrote. They think they will be immune from the garbage your regressive party is attempting to push this nation into. I like that you people actually believe that. The more you spread it and the louder you voice it, the more you will be heard. It will work wonders for you in the Nov 2012 elections.
Egilman,...#1.42.... I do not understand what you are trying to say with your opening statement of .......
and then to note in your last paragraph.......
BZe1
The story was about the guy who shot himself... Try to stay on topic! The FEDS didn't have anything to do with THAT...
Which park is your tent in? Just sayin"
It's your guy Obama who is doing this.
Pappadave..#3.1.... the guy that shot himself appears to be a troubled Vet.
Isn't it sad that we send our people off to war in foreign lands, then when they return we do not care or want to care for them or their needs?
these aren't peaceful protesters in Portland, this is nothing but a big bum camp, get out the tear gas !!!
Hey wtfwtf,
Explain to us all, please, your brilliant logic in wanting to give the people you think are there to protect you more duties given you conclude they are corrupt.
Man-woman up...the worst is yet to come.
Rich, Rich, Rich...
Cassandra, who new?
You don't get out much do you? There is no such thing as a peaceful protest, because there are ALWAYS individuals in the crowd who think that they can do whatever they want to. The technique of hitting members of a mob in the stomach with the baton is a technique used by officers as a form of riot control, and it is very effective, don't you agree? Oh my! There is violence in America, oh my, whatever shall we do?
D'oh (with apologies to H.J. Simpson) !! Just sayin'
jw:
Woodstock was 500,000 young people at totally peaceful 3-day concert.
Ido:
A veteran shot himself, the day before Veteran's Day. There is something so sad about that.
Happy Veteran's Day, Jim.
Happy veteran's day Jim...I appreciate your service!
Jim... from one vet to another.
Have a SAFE and family happy Veterans Day.
Enjoy yourself and forget all the BS posted on here from ALL sides.
Tell Congress - get off their fence and PASS the jobs bill for Vets.
Thank you for mentioning the military veteran in the article who DIED. God bless that guy.
Oakland police have put two Iraq vets in the hospital---both gravely wounded----
And, your comment has "what" to do about the guy who SHOT HIMSELF?
Victims of unprovoked attacks I would assume.
pretty sure the guy who shot himself was not a victim of an unprovoked attack, unless he was provoked to attack himself...just saying.
Newsflash liar, they were injured by OWS people.
Dirk--you are full of crap
didn't this "veteran" have any firearms training ? like don't point it at yourself !!!
I say free drugs and hand guns to all protestors!!!
Gravely my arse!!
The Vet in Oakland that was bleeding on the news was assaulted by POLICE.
As I recall the "ONE" vet who was supposed to have been hit in the head by a tear gas canister was participating in a RIOT!
Just because he served his country overseas in a combat zone does not give him the right to come home and turn Oakland into "little Baghdad."
Break the law, suffer the consequences, vet or not. Grow up!!!!
Cassandra - you need to take a TRUTH and reality pill.
Doesn't look like the meak will inherent the earth anytime soon, and survival of the fittest continues.
And when was it ever not the survival of the fittest? We are no exception to nature's laws. She doesn't evenly distribute.
The "meak"? Really dude? Nor will the stupid. Lets pray for a VERY harsh, early winter to send these losers home.
...I'll give an A-men to that e-dog!!
They're not losers. The losers are the American public who have to live with the crimes of the Wall Streeters.
here is the fundamental difference between the OWS (1%) and the rest of our society (99%) - the OWS believes profits are evil and that businesses and banks should just give everything away for free.
Sorry I got the wrong impression of OWS after seeing the photos of signs saying
"No More Profits"
Wake up you fools! NOBODY is advocating for communism either! What's with you people and one track minds?
jay,
I'm pretty sure that wasn't the only sign you saw! As we all know the chances of there being one fool present in a crowd of thousands are pretty good. With the comments I am seeing on here it appears there is a large concentration of fools on this one site!
Hi Priority,
Funny you say these things given that I was listening to Radio Pacifica the other day and the host had three guests on his show from Occupy Oakland, all of which wanted some form of socialism or communism, and each of which demanded plenty of free stuff.
So who are you listening too again?
@ Priority $ or Health?
Oh, really? Maybe you're the one who needs to wake up. Watch it, I dare you!
http://www.breitbart.tv/former-soviet-citizen-confronts-socialists-at-occupy-wall-street/
The wealth of the labors of others has already been distributed... to Wall Street...
Hey gb,
Did you support the largest collective voice in opposition to the bailouts? It was the Tea Party. Or are you more aligned with the Occupiers who claim they are upset about the bailouts, but only because they feel they didn't get free stuff for themselves in the deal? One, the Tea Partiers, want to stop the massive theft from our unborn heirs that continues even today, and the other, the Occupiers, are complacent with this large scale theft if, and only if, they are able to get free stuff for themselves.
So, where do you stand?
The "occupiers" are mostly young, and becoming aware of how they got shafted by "banksters" and "Wall Street" bull. In addition, with the Social Security kitty raided by our esteemed morons in government, they are looking at 2-1 workers to retiree ratios....which of course is asinine and NOT workable. So "someone" is getting caught holding the bag - yeah, the young. I'd be po'd too - more than my kids are, because they are still college students and don't "get" - yet - just how raw a deal this could snowball in to.
Hey Cassandra,
My kids are well aware of what our generation has done to them, but they don't blame corporations, or the wealthy.
Well said ThaMonkeh!!
This is the best idea yet since tuition hikes at most Colleges is so high that most students have to borrow money, and student loan defaults are expected to be the next financial collapse to happen.
How ironic that a lot of Universites are the birth place of student movements yet do not want the protests to happen in their own back yards. Well, what is good for the Goose, is good for the Gander! This will really be something if what the Universities promotes is what comes back to haunt them.
Most Universities are liberal and most protests are pretty left wing...
However, your point is well taken... They don't want their pristine images marred by unruly protesters...
You echo my thoughts exactly as I read the article.
How about working your way through college?
Amen to that!
Fine - I'm sure that there are lots of OWS folks who'd be happy to take YOUR job...but unfortunately scrubbing toilets doesn't pay very well.
Too late..
And I couldn't even get a job in my field after graduation!!!
More returning vets have died at their own hands now than have been KIA in either of the war "theaters."
Something both sad and telling about this.
Weeble you need to check your stats again...You are nuts.
Good one Mike Peaceful protest, I too am a vet, the only difference is i looked and found a job knowing that the govt. doesn't take care of me I do
mike the vet:
That is the American way , if you want something else then go some where else.
mike the vet:
But of course. If it didn't, how could they afford to pay a Coach a million dollars a year?
Exactly, just like the NYC protesters live in gentrified Brooklyn and Manhattan apartments with astrinomical rents. These people are over priveleged hypocrites.
Why am I not surprised that an uneducated conservative can't spell astronomical? Get back to doing what you're qualified to do: scrubbing toilets.
Hope he uses your face scumbag!
A True American Martyr. At least he did not blow himself up.
No martyr ,just a troubled vet. There are plenty of places to go for help. You can't help if you don't ask.
Most people, not just vets, never ask for help. But it is very common for someone to make the statement, "I am going to kill myself!" or something similar to that in front of people they know. It may even come out as a joke - but it's not - it's usually their final plea for help.
And the Pubs want to cut Veterans benefits...........sad
It is shameful what the Obama Adinistration has done to this Country
The "story" was about a guy who tried, but apparently didn't succeed in killing himself but they rambled on about all the other Occupy Sites... Must get paid by the inch without any editorial oversight...
Another liberal wacko. Now he will ask for free healthcare to take care of him. Rockaby baby if we are lucky.
The man was a war vet, tell me, have you served any time? What a horrible thing to say.....
just because he was war vet doesn't mean he can't be an idoit I have plenty of relatives in the armed forces so don't use that dumb excuse on me
The question wasn't about your relatives, douchebag - The question was have YOU served? Judging by your lack of an answer one can infer that the answer is nope. Typical republican bully; worthless white trash - no better that the jackoffs in the republican guard.
Toni, he was a wacko with a gun in a protest for the liberals. If this were a tea party protest you and the media would call him militia right wing christian nut bag but he is a liberal wack job
gray,
I think most compassionate people, repub or democrat, wouldn't disparage a troubled veteran.
Pathetic.
They are the ones who voted for him... And, his lap dog Congress...
Very true - but it's (as always) OUR tax dollars paying the hundreds of thousands of $$ it's costing for these idiots. And that includes the Lap Dogs! :)
What f#cking world do you people live in? Come back to REALITY! PLEASE!
Hurray, now if we can only get the others to follow suit and spread this action to every camp across the nation, we will have solved the problem!
you're disgusting.
Gibberish...no just hopeful.
Brutis Bear:
Wonder who that will be? Can't be us... We're broke!
Can anyone see China from their back porch?
They are asking China but the PEOPLE told the Red Party no so they are not! The commies listen to their people better than our Congress does!
Brutus Bear...
LOLOLOL...Oh please! Yeah, they sure listened at Teanennman Square...or during Prague Spring, or to those who tried to flee East Germany running through the barbed wire before and after the wall was completed...AND no, I'm NOT a right wing rethuglican...
Brutis Bear you are living in some dream land if you think a communist govt listens to the people.
Have you ever read about Stalin and how he controlled Russia??
Doubtful, otherwise you and the other liberals would find that is not a very good way of life for anyone except the dictator in charge.
All I need to know about Stalin I did when i was young and this is the most profound thing that man said!
America will hang its self and that rope will be made in a communist country!
So what exactly does graveley wounded himself mean? I noticed his "friend" referred to him in the past tense, but does this actually mean that he will likely die?
It means, extremely bad, serious, or severe. Hope that helps.
doubtful he will live is the usual definition
Come on people -- the guy's a vet. Some of you should be ashamed of yourself for some of these comments.
just because he was war vet doesn't mean he can't be an idoit I have plenty of relatives in the armed forces so don't use that dumb excuse on me
Figures, leave it to Berkeley, the bastion of American Haters....
I find it ironic that the "We are the 99%" movement is encountering most all of its resistance from primarily those that belong in the 99%. The police, city council officials, sheriff department deputies, security guards etc.
That's all!
Ah no...I do NOT think the 99% was intended to include those on the lower levels of the power structure designed to enforce the rule of the 1%...
I hear today that some cities have set deadlines to shut down the "camps" and kick these communists out of town.
well I hope the best for him.
All these people should be protesting at the capitol, at least they will pretend to listen to them. That is usually where all the problems began.
NYC!!!!
LOL...Oh, you're one of THOSE...now I get it
Debt is all of our problems.
Are you Rick Perry's speech writer?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa a
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa no no no the party of no!
Brutis Bear
You need to get rid of your liberal arts degree and go back to high school so you can get some education if you pay attention this time.
The IMF needs to worry about Europe and stay out of our business. Besides China is the only country that can still be considered rich and they sure as hell aren't going to spend a dime for the IMF
Deb art mimicks life and in this case you are not very artful!
Besides you do not know me!
You do not know who the IMF is either! You need to just go to school for a little while!
Trust me little bear I have read more & traveled more than 85% of the people on this vine.
Art only imitates life in pictures and IMF stands for International Monetary Fund.
It is very much like the UN in that it wants to be in charge. If govt stays out of businesses things would right themselves as they always have.
Oh and I am glad that I don't know you since everyone of your posts shows how you just follow the liberal agenda
Danto
Have some respect your a non Veteran! Someone who is either too scared to serve too fat or have a criminal record. Please reinstate the DRAFT!
just because he was war vet doesn't mean he can't be an idoit I have plenty of relatives in the armed forces so don't use that dumb excuse on me
Yes PLEASE reinstate the draft so all these protesters can be used as cannon fodder. 2 problems solved in one fell swoop, useless liberal art degree holders go first, then all the minimum credit degrees. Only Dr's, Engineers and other degrees that actually make people use their brains are exempt.
Create an Olympic Javelin Catching Team out of them.
"We as a nation" failed him? Seriously?
I didn't. I honor our troops. Have for years. And thank every one of them whenever I get the chance.
Do you? When was the last time you paid for the dinner of a vet that was a complete stranger?
Yeah, that's what I thought. This nation did not fail thisa veteran - the Occupiers did.
LOVE.
What a wonderful post, Benjamin. Keep the sweet spirit, we need a lot more of that in this tired old world.
Dear Master Benjamin...
I am a boomer whose prime directive was to wage the war of love...
However, this planet CANNOT sustain 10 billion - let alone 15 billion people...no matter how much 'love' there is...Love will not create more water
News Alert;
How do you know it was a suicide? The story doesn't say that.
They are surmising that it was suicide according to the people around him at the time of the incident, but they are still investigating.
It was not an accident as the article states, "after shooting himself."
You can shoot yourself while cleaning a gun, moron. You really are full of yourself with your silly assumptions.
You are reported for your lack of civility. What is wrong with you?! Seriously?!
