Yes. He should not have expressed such opinions to a news organization. Doing so may have undermined the mission in Afghanistan.

No. Peter Fuller spoke the truth about what's happening to our soldiers and our money over there.

Not sure. Maybe it would have been better to wait a little bit before acting on his comments.

Obama needs to explain to Americans why he diverts millions to fight Lybia for NATO butcan't give the same respects to our forces in the Middle East.
Why was he fired, the truth hurt. They are a bunch of neurotic two faced liars over there. We need to leave and let them kill each other off. Bad Bad Bad Obama
I think that is the dumbest comment I have ever read, Mitchell.
Steve Thompson
This is pure rediculousness. A Major General is fired over these little comments?! Give me a break.
What part of this statement isn't true. We live in a society of entitlements. Although a lot of people gripe because they can't afford a Mercedes, filet mignon, or designer clothes, we still have affordable food and clothing. Many of our soldiers have fought and paid the ultimate sacrafice. Our job isn't to make a stable Afghanistan. Our job was to give the Taliban and Al-Qaeda a black eye and make sure that they know that attacking our Soil will not be tolerated without severe retaliation. Lets get out of Afghanistan and let those jerks figure out how to build their own country without our tax dollars.
This guy deserved a promotion--as opposed to being fired.
Nothing will get you fired faster than telling the truth. That's the basis of American politics.
This pretty much sums it up!
Mitchell;
Obama had nothing to do with the firing, except possibly to approve it. Did you just want to swing at him in you patriotic fervor?
Fuller should be getting a medal and a promotion, not relieved of duty! What a bunch of scumbags his superiors and the Afgan leaders are! Total BS!
Fire him? Make him president! The guy knows what he's talking about and he's not afraid to say it.
Wonder why Hilary or Biden have neven said anything to Karzai? He expects us to just keep paying money? Cut off the flow and see what happens.
By the way who fired him? Was it Obama?
Sir,I have nothing but respect for a commander who states the truth. You are a General who's soldiers would stand behind.....Kinda sounds like what Patton said about his opinion of Russia.....He was right too....Nice to see an officer with balls to say what should be said without clearing everything through public-affairs (the military's spin doctors)....ever consider running for president?????..............U.S.Army Disabled Veteran
I don't think Obama needs to explain anything. But, I would have just transferred the less than diplomatic General back to the states and bought him a beer. He should not be forced to retire but perhaps he shouldn't be assigned to politically sensitive areas.
Ok, First, General, I salute you. I was demoted for speaking the truth. Very different topic, but, very same manner. You were relieved of duty because you didnt use political correctness. Which, personally, I think is a bunch of BS. It's for people that cant handle the truth. People that couldnt swat at a fly that was annoying them because it would be cruel. I dont know who, (specifically) was in charge of firing you, but, THEY should be fired!!!
Second, Diplomatic relations..... seriously? with Pakistan and Afghanistan? I can only imagine your thoughts and emotions when confronted with such ignorance from people who you are expected to teach how to govern a country. We are there spending the money of people in our country to build theirs, and WE have to be politically correct with them?!?! WE have to try to build public relations and diplomatic relations?! BULL!! If they don't like the way we talk..... then they can F off! Because I'm sure that our Joe's would be more than happy to come home and never go back to those countries ever again!!!!!
IF they want our help then they can cowboy the hell up and accept the fact that they might not be as educated as we are in Democratic policies. If they want our help they probably shouldn't insult us. If it were up to me.... I'd bring our troops home, and let the Afghanies and Iraqies kill each other off! then, maybe we'd have less of a problem.
I think RVGranpa is a little over the hill in his thinking. He said all Obama did was Approve the firing. DUH and Double DUH. He should have given the General a medal for telling the Truth. I think it's time to vote Obama, Hillary, and the rest of them out of office. It get's worse every day. Firing somone for telling the truth. If that isn't the Last straw I don't know what is.
Why does everything always come back to Obama? He is not an omnipotent puppet master who controls every aspect of government and the country. Obama does not have say in every action that occurs or any mishandling of funds or whatever else you'd like to blame on him. Also Obama does support the Afghan war, but more people seem to want to end the war due to costs and stagnation, and so he took that position. The afghans don't want us there either.
Like a repeat of what happened to general McChrystal when he spoke the truth about the "win their hearts and minds" strategy to Rolling Stone.
Afghanistan says they will side with Pakistan against the U.S...... shows that McChrystal knew what he was talking about and Fuller obviously does too.
Ceodo, how is it that you know that Obama had nothing to do with the firing of a major General? Major General is one of the highest posotion a soldier can reach in the United States. I'd bet my left nut that he knew about it and had a hand in it. Think about it.
I don't care what this man's political persuasion is. He simply spoke the truth which is something neither political party will do in relation to Afghanistan. My plea to General Fuller is to get out of the military quickly and help guide the American people to get out of this stupid war. Maybe you will have to seek a leadership post for this to happen. I for one am with you.
ceodo: how politicly naive can you get. a 2 star general serves under the coamder and chief, in a dumshell- obama. if the boss can't stop a fireing who the hell can? that also means he can order anyone under his command to do his dirty work for him! he then stay's clean and out of the press.
Yeah he could stop/reverse it and possibly have directly ordered it, but my point was Obama does not control everything that happens in this country, not just in this scenario. They were talking about how Obama abandoned Afghanistan or something like that up there.
Hey look, it is not our money that our politicians are sending over there, it is China's money that we continue to borrow! It is not just our less fortunate citizens who are all tied-up in the payday loan places. It appears as tho they have learned it from Washington!
General Fuller this disabled Veteran salutes you sir! Please throw your hat in the ring sir and after being elected President fire the incompetent who so undeservingly executed an illustrious military career. God bless you.
Being Right and Politics have NOTHING to do with this, as a member of the U.S. Military his public comments violated the Uniform Code of Military Justice. That was why he was relieved of his position and his military career is at an end.
I would like to think he thought long and hard before he made those remarks because given his rank, experience and education he had to know what the outcome would be as did McChrystal. I am sure the comments made by both individuals were out of pure frustration of a Military Commander hog tied by the political agenda. Use of the military to enforce a political agenda is and has always been a bad idea, too bad out leaders fail to learn from history.
But the bottom line is the General crossed the line and the military had no choice but to relieve him of duty.
Heaven forbid we say anything against the muslims with obumbo around.
K9 would you care to explain HOW exactly his comments were against the UCMJ? the3 General didnt say anything harrassing, or derogatory. If you would care to enlighten me as to which section of the UCMJ he violated i will then cast a vote for your comment. if not, I will be ignoring you.
Major General Fuller was right. It's a pity he's being penalized for saying the truth. I guess the military is like corporate America. They all want you to kiss butt or keep quiet.
Perhaps not but he wants to be the omnipotent puppet master and he is the commander in chief of the armed forces so he can over-rule any decision by those under him.
No offense, but anyone that thinks a 2 star General was relieved of duty, and it wasn't run by the White House first, knows so little about the politics of the Army that they should just keep their opinions to themselves.................
Anyone who has ever served in the military knows the guidlines and rules. They're the same for everyone.
This idiot had it coming. He joins a long list of idiots that forgot the tail doesn't wag the dog.
@AZPADDY
Sorry my man, I have to disagree with you. Anyone who has served in the military notices real quick the rules ARE NOT the same for everyone. That whole "equality" thought process is delusional at best. If you intend to refute this, I need to know how many E-4's youve seen with 20 member staffs, personal jets, and limousines.
This decorated war hero spoke his mind with a camera present. No different than the multitude of other Generals and Admirals who have preceded him. If speaking your mind in front of a camera were idiotic, then Odierno, Petreus, Mullen,Powell, Schwarzkopf, none of these guys would have been able to keep their jobs. His crime is disagreeing with administration policy in public. Lets not forget though, he IS a very high ranking officer, and a highly educated and vastly experienced soldier who just might know what the hell he's talking about.
Calling a fellow soldier an idiot,(especially one like General Fuller) reflects poorly on you. Do you really think this man was smart enough to obtain that rank, yet stupid enough to let his mouth get carried away in front of a camera? Just like General McChrystal, he made a calculated move to pave the way for his golden parachute exit from a situation he no longer wanted to participate in.
I'm absolutely certain society will reward him with book deals and fellowship positions that will far exceed any amount of money the Army ever paid him, and this my friend, is what represents the difference between him, and whatever "private Joe Schmoe" you're trying to compare him to. Once they put that star on your shoulder, you MAKE the rules.
Usama Bin Laden is DEAD.
1. Bring the troops home.
2. Cut off all funding to this country.
3. I think that the general was right in what he was saying and was so frustrated that he wanted out. I have a lot of respect for any veteran.
G.I. Joe
Sorry my man....When you're a high ranking officer in a combat theater, and see fit to shoot your mouth off re things above your pay rank, then you can expect a quick reprimand and/or being demoted.
He is an idiot for doing that.
This general's statements were absolutely correct and factual. And his statements reflect what many Americans feel. I am angry that the Army would fire him for these comments but I am not surprised as America must play this game of being politically correct and not 'offend' another country even when that country offends the United States with a statement that it would side with Pakistan (a supposed ally which is a joke, when the money and weapons stop going there they are done with us) if an armed conflict were to happen between the US and Pakistan.
The General's statements were right on the money and I applaud him for stating them. This is a man that should run for president of the US as he would have my vote. It is time for America to withdrawal our troops from Afganistan. Afganistan obviously has no interest in America's help and our way of living and they are certainly ungrateful for the sacrifice the US has made to attempt to stablize that nation. The precious lives lost and the billions of dollars. Afganistan would 'stab us in the back' at any given time. Time to get out. And when we announce we are leaving we will warn any terrorist group that believes that this is their victory that we will strike back with excessive force if another attack on America were to occur and the next time we wont play the politically correct way that has hindered America in this war. This is the only nation on earth that attempts to fight a war 'humainely' while our enemy hides behind innocents and does not even wear a uniform. The US has the power to annialte countries like Afganistan but we choose to be humaine. Afganistan should be grateful. Firing this General angers me because he spoke the truth and spoke it factually without a personal tone. Enough said.
halseyjr61
So what? It's still wrong for a military man to do what he did, and he knew it.
I'd rather see a military man demoted for breaking the well known rules than to see him get away with it, regardless of what the topic was.
In other words, who in the hell does he think he is? His commander had no other choice.
AZPADDY
Perhaps you were so engrossed in your own view point that you failed to comprehend GI Joe's point.
The General was most certainly well aware making these public comments would produce this result. Therefore the comments were most likely presented with premeditation, to present him with a well calculated exit from the war arena was assigned. This departure will allow him to further solidify the financial well being of his family with lucrative book deals etc. If this was indeed the case then the General would be considered anything but an idiot.
GI Joe please correct me if I misinterpreted the meaning of your post.
As for myself, although I understand the nuances of political agendas and military codes of conduct; I can't help but find it ironic that the very people who have dedicated their lives to the principles of our constitution, who put themselves into harms way to serve our country, are unable to exercise one of the very rights they work so hard to preserve..freedom of speech.
You forget one very important point of being in the military, you do not have the right to pick and choose what orders you follow. General Fuller had one advantage over Joe Blow GI, he had time in grade sufficient to resign his commission, get out of the military and lambast anyone he choose. Most GI's have a term to serve and cannot get out until they have served that time. I served my two years of active duty, two years in the reserve and two years of inactive reserve, I hated every minute of it but I wouldn't trade those years for all the tea in China. I learned that as a soldier you follow orders, good orders, bad orders and indifferent orders, you go through the chain of command to complain. Most of the time it didn't change one twit but it was a system I learned to respect, When we screwed up as a unit, the officer in charge caught the flack, that was also part of the system. This was General Fuller's army the same as it was mine when I served, he knew the rules and he made his bed, let him lay in it the same as I would have had to if I had screwed up.
You do not say anything like that to the media your words get twisted and turned to make it sound best he should have known better. Just like the media saying he was fired he wasn't fired he was relieved from his position and more than likely now has another one. We are trying to work with the Afgan government to hopefully one day be able to survive independently and General Fuller wants to basically @!$%# on them. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Hey were the Afgan government don't worry say whatever you want to about us and will be completely cooperative with you.
As a truthteller, you can bet this Major General will be the first pick for military advisers if/when ron Paul is elected POTUS. It's well beyond time to bring ALL of our troops home, they aren't doing anything over there to "secure our freedoms". Our freedoms are secured right here at home, and the sooner our troops are home, the sooner they can stop stepping on other country's toes, and everyone can get back to their daily lives.
Ron Paul 2012!
Just another product of a Politically Correct country. We wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings would we? The world is full of hypersensitive cry-babies that are isolated from reality.
100 % correct jc. This country has become such a wussy. I know of no other country that is so afraid to speak the truth than we are
In as much as we have the most advanced military, we can not play that card in foreign affairs, and that is where the American Citizen is not well formed. We have also played the diplomatic card in a simple and generous way. We have to set perimeters, limits and guidelines with those that we help build democracies without rubbing our culture in their faces. That's how you build good relationships beyond our borders.
This is quite true. Unfortunately he is not at liberty to speak the whole truth in such an undiplomatic way.
But, he certainly shouldn't be fired for it either, maybe just abruptly moved out of the situation.
JoeV4365970: Baloney. They should be kissing OUR ass'es not the other way around. Or men are being Murdered over there and you are worried about hurting that Rat Ass Karzai's feeling's??
We invaded them. They didn't invite us in. We will leave sooner or later, just like every other nation with the hubris to think they could change this region.
We weren't supporting a revolution as in Libya. And as for PC, remember in 2001 when US citizens saying that invading Afghanistan wasn't just wrong and immoral...it was stupid...and were denounced as troop hating traitors?
This guy is a career military man. He needs to shut up and know his role or quit. Not pop off like a child-killing bitch.
In a political system, it's dangerous to speak the truth. On the other hand, you do have to be careful not to undermine the mission of your agency and the best interests of the country, which, unfortunately, are sometimes best served by remaining quiet.
undermine, hell's bell's the muslims are doing good enough on their own. They're all idiots. I think that desert heat has baked their brains.
To David L. and others.....What about what the General said is undermining the best interests of our country? I'm sick and tired, and I'm sure I'm not alone, of paying off the rest of the world while THEY hate us and do everything they can to undermine US! We need to be giving all that money that now goes to Arab countries to Israel.....they truly ARE our friends and Obama is doing everything he can to undermine them and our relationship with them. Maybe it's time for another 6 Day War so they can wipe the Arab countries off the face of the earth! Few people seem to care that God said that those who don't stand with Israel are doomed! (My paraphrase) Jews are still God's people. He's been very good to us, too, but with the way Americans act toward God and Israel, He's surely pretty fed up with us. Just remember that God can end our favored status in a snap.
Pretty sad that this man got the boot for speaking the truth that most thinking Americans outside the White House already know!
Lets spend the money at home.
Well spoken General fuller ,I as an old WW 2 soldier saluut you, we should get out of Afghanistan ASAP ,we are fighting a ghost war and a corrupt country, the General is right on,a waist of money and lives,I hope you will make a run for President real soon,my vote you have already.
Harry
Did you support the invasion of Iraq??
Probably.
Don't like how the Afghanis treat you Mr. General? Don't invade their country you stupid man.
Peter Fuller should be promoted to President of the United States. He is one who is willing to speak the truth and not cowtow to the politically correct establishment who is afraid to step on any toes.
If he puts his name in the race I would love to see him win the nomination and then the presidency. Then he could really weed out military politicians.
That is not the role of the military, all through history Military Men have gotten themselves in trouble by speaking out forgetting that they excute policy and do not dervie policy by their comments while they are in uniform. Patton, McArthur, McChrytal all forgot this. Maybe they all needed to reread the US Constituiton
The Constitution says nothing about turning off your brain. It also says nothing about not speaking the truth. Gen Fuller was not making policy by telling the truth and frankly stating the obvious. DLC, perhaps you sir should reread the Constitution of these United States.
i will be the first one draft him to run for president. at least he served our country, but BHObama needs to be deported or put in the slammer for allowing more killing in Af 's war. there is no commander-in-chief as far as I concern. BHO is not and never our chief, only brainless dung in the white house.
Fuller is a simpleton. Gee...the country we invaded...where we rigged elections to get US-friendly politicians in power....doesn't "appreciate" what we've done?
LOL! I remember when it wasn't PC to question the wisdom of invading the Graveyard of Empires and you hated the troops if you though invading Iraq was amoral.
fire obama keep the general.
robert dodd i agree 100 percent with you. in fact this general needs to gain some more rank and given a higher position
Obama's wars win...see Libya. Even with 10 years these generals (And don't forget the 8 that Bush fired!) can't handle Afghanistan. They should be fired for going along with the original amoral invasion.
The job of the military is to kill people and break things, as the president orders. The military should not be involved in expressing political opinions to news outlets, even if they are honest and accurate. That's part of the president's job, or those to whom he delegates such tasks.
The President has made it clear that his Job is to blame Republicans for all his failures and to go out and campaign for a job he won't keep.
He's raised $86 million for his 2012 campaign so far. All tax free by the way. Hypocrit. Not too mention he spends UNGODLY amounts of tax dollars everytime he travels to go on one of his taxpayer funded campaign trips.
You ever find it odd that social organizations, non for profits, and other tax exempt companies are allowed to donate to the liberals campaigns and then when a liberal is elected more and more taxpayer money goes to these organizations?
Obama has spent lots of money and time on vacations, lavish dinners. The left were angry that Bush spend more time at his ranch than in the white house. It is because he worked out of the ranch. It is his ranch after all He golfs and rubs elbows with the hollywood elite while the middle class suffers. The left got mad that Bush golfed during the war, so he stopped.
Ah the left must be the gander and the right the goose. Because what's good for the goose is NOT good for the gander.
Sadly, it's the truth.
wrong that is not the role of the military, the military is actually the last resort after diplomacy has failed.
People do not start wars. POLITICIANS do.
The General is not required by oath to NOT speak his mind. He is by oath required to be loyal and serve etc.; but please tell us shamus who actually decided on the action?
Was it the baggy Pant Suit lady ? Was it Panetta? Was it the new dude in the Pentagon?
It wasn't me ... or you right? Another socialist decision on behalf of the mullato in the Oval Office?
That is correct. I dont thimk he shoulf ne fired for speaking truth, BUT it is not his job to express such opinions, at least not publically. As a former Army officer, I realize that while I may have an opinion. my job is to serve at the pleasure of the President without passion or predjudice. When you speak out of school, you damage the chain of command, and that is not acceptable, under any circumsrtance
larry, i take it you never served in military. i did and spoke to my commander how i feel about his task when I served. have you ever spoke out your opinion? we live in free speech society and you ought thank me for giving my years in military to defend your right to mouth off your opinion. i suppose you are one of BHOabama cronies mobsters???
Pete Fuller is expressing the views that I have shared for years! This whole Afganistan effort has only aided the war profiteers in this country! I'm happy to hear that the Administration is moving up their date for leaving Afganistan. It is utterly stupid to stay there, and spend all of our treasure when our own country is going down rapidly! I say give Pete Fuller a medal for his comments, and candor!
MacAuther was fired, and he had 5 stars
MacArthur was fired for his strong stance on using nukes on the chinese in the korean war.
and he should have nuked the bastards into tofu hell
And Mac Arthur he was right also, when he mentioned lets cross the Yellow river when China was sending troops to fight in North Korea, let us cross that river and knock these bastards of the planet, he was right also and was called back to the States in a hurry and was fired. How well I remember, and what about Patton???
Freedom of speech? Ha! It no longer exists in the USA. Your freedoms are under attack America, and not from a foreign invader, but from our own government! How's that for "Change you can believe in"? Believe this, we are headed for a socialist state sooner than you think.
What's wrong with a socialist state? It's the goons that run and ruin it like Stalin. Goons can ruin a capitalist state also, as is occuring now.
For your information Freedom of Speech does not exist in the Military because of the role of the military.
I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."
For the support of all US troops I say get out of that thankless area and bring our troops home. I am a combat veteran.
And put back all of those things the Soviets had put there (with Hinds helicopters) and we cleaned up.
I agree. Bring our troop home and if Obumma want to fight another useless war, put our troop on the Mexican border and keep those bastards out. Screw Afgan.....
My son is there now and tells me things that are going on and it is disgusting. It's about time someone spoke the truth. I applaud him. We are wasting American lives and wasting money by continuously being there. Time to get the hell out. Bring our military home now.
My son got back a couple of months ago and I agree 100%.
I know first hand what happens when you "stand up for what you believe is the truth"! It's a sad day when we relieve decorated, brave and honorable men from their duty and look away. There is unrest in our own country, people living in squalor, we are supporting too many people with social programs and allowing too many people in our country compounding the issue! There is something to be said about 'keeping your enemy closer". Meanwhile our President tries to polish up his image and run a campaign. Just think what all those millions of dollars spent could do for schools, veterans, our soldiers, and seniors. What a mess!
Couldn't have said it better myself. Obuthead want the illegal vote to suck four more years out of what is left of America.
Oh come on. Every election there is fundraising Democrat and Republican. How is it that suddenly its Obama's fault that campaign contributions are not being spent on schools, veterans, soldiers and seniors. The Republican presidential donations 90m, Democratic 86m, not alot of difference.
As for the much needed social programs, if the gap between rich and poor did not increase each year and if the financial status of the poor didn't decrease each year due to inequitable monetary, regulation and tax policies there wouldn't be a need for supporting more people on social programs.
There will always be a segment of the population that suffers financially and contrary to Republican opinion they are not less fortunate by choice. Most people that "make it" will tell you they got a break at some point in their lives that made a huge difference. That same break does not and cannot happen to every single person.
Just because some people have, through an unfortunate series of events (not always within their control) not received the same break as those that have "made it", does not mean they are lazy or less hard working than others although they often work 2 or 3 jobs just to stay afloat. It simply means they need some help from those that have had a good go of it.
So many people view poverty as a choice, don't get me wrong, oh I do know there are people who play the system and that should be stopped. Career welfare should stop, there are ways to do that. Monthly income reporting rather than every 6 months, real proof of job seeking, drug testing, mandatory career counseling and training. Just please don't make the assumption that all poor are unworthy of social assistance and are lazy.
The sad part of the General being relieved is that no one wants to hear the truth. He expressed what a lot of people have been thinking or saying in private for quite a few years now and oh by the way, The comment about Karzai saying he would side with pakistan against us in a war is true. Our news networks of course would never show it because they are too busy with the latest breaking news of whatever spoiled brat of a star is in troulble again. I saw Karzai on televsion making the statement in front of the Pakistan press as well as others. All I can say is , we had better start asking questions about what we are really doing over there before it is too late and we find ourselves surrounded by our so called allies.
I'm with the General. Vet- 1st Lt AMSC.
More of Obama mishandeling everything his administration touches. A major general, in theatre, telling it like he sees it and how it really is should have been given a medal. The quicker we throw this admionistration out on the street the quicker our country can start a recovery if the Obamafil4es havent FUBAR'D it before January 2013.
He should be promoted, not fired. He is the only one with the guts to speak the truth. The politicos can't stand truth. He is risking his life to defend the right to speak his mind as our constitution allows. Give the man a medal!
Let's dust off some nukes Got to be a lot cheaper !
^5 brother... definitely cheaper and by gosh, we'd be reducing our nuclear weapons stockpile, that ought to make the tree-hugging hippies dance with pot-induced joy!
not only no but Hell NO those people over there really dont really know what reality is> If our president had a spine he would tell them the same damn thing im sick and tired of sending my tax doolar to countrys that want to kill all american let em stand on thier own two feet get a clue!
Wonder if the folks on the hill are gonna take a look at this poll. They must be guessing by now that their time on the money go round is almost over.
They couldn't care less what the people think. If we had a Real Democracy in this country they would have listened to the people a long time ago and we would have been out of there. I say General Peter Fuller for President. Pass it on.
Bin Laden said it WE DON't WANT YOU HERE---GET OUT!
Put another way, they don't want us so why stay and why keep taking money that could feed many US children and those in need to support this war that no one wants. We are hurting ourselves to help them and they don;t want us there only our money! STUPID
Obviously they don't care what we are doing to help, so why keep wasting funds a lost cause! Only alcoholic grandiosity thought we could change a mindframe centuries old as a way to help----10 years later dept higher than ever---get US out of there. THIS GENERAL WAS CORRECT, only egos get undermined.
They are using us THE US, will they learn--how to use weapons of destruction yes anything else a few will learn that peace is possible if you really want it.
