We'll see. So far they haven't blown up two civilian airliners or bombed any discos in Germany, nor have they attempted to build a nuclear bomb, like Qaddafi did.
The rebel leadership contacted their masters in the U.S., "We've located Gadhafi. His capture is certain."
Hillary replied, "I will arrive immediately to discuss it with you".
Hillary arrives "unexpectedly" in Libya.
Her discussion with the rebel leaders: "We want Gadhafi killed **immediately**. Do you understand? Immediately! If you do not understand, we will order NATO to 'accidentally' bomb your people a few times more."
Sharia law declaration raises concerns in new Libya
By Simon Martelli | AFP – 21 hrs ago
The announcement that Islamic sharia law will be the basis of legislation in newly liberated Libya has raised concerns, especially among women, despite Islamists insisting moderation will prevail.
Interim leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil said on Sunday, during his speech to the nation in Benghazi to formally declare the country's liberation from the ousted regime of Moammer Kadhafi, that sharia would be Libya's principal law.
"Any law that violates sharia is null and void legally," he said, citing as an example the law on marriage passed during the slain dictator's 42-year tenure that imposed restrictions on polygamy, which is permitted in Islam.
"The law of divorce and marriage... This law is contrary to sharia and it is stopped," Abdel Jalil said.
His comments have provoked criticism and calls for restraint both in Libya and in Europe, amid fears that the Arab Spring may give rise to a potentially intolerant Islamist resurgence.
Many Libyans awaiting Sunday's historic speech expressed surprise at the decision by the National Transitional Council leader to mention the role of sharia law in the new country before addressing such important issues as security and education.
"It's shocking and insulting to state, after thousands of Libyans have paid for freedom with their lives, that the priority of the new leadership is to allow men to marry in secret," said Rim, 40, a Libyan feminist who requested anonymity.
"We did not slay Goliath so that we now live under the Inquisition," she told AFP.
In his speech, Abdel Jalil also announced the introduction of Islamic banking in Libya in keeping with sharia which prohibits the earning of interest, or riba in Arabic, that is considered a form of usury.
Adelrahman al-Shatr, one of the founders of the centre-right Party of National Solidarity, launched just last week, said it was premature for the NTC leader to speak about the policies of the new state.
"It is a subject that should be discussed with the different political groups and with the Libyan people," he said.
"These declarations create feelings of pain and bitterness among women who sacrificed so many martyrs," in the eight-month battle against Kadhafi loyalists, he added.
"By abolishing the marriage law, women lose the right to keep the family home if they divorce. It is a disaster for Libyan women."
Western leaders also responded swiftly to Abdel Jalil's comments, with EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton saying on Monday Libya's introduction of sharia law must respect human rights and democratic principles.
Abdel Jalil, a respected former justice minister of Kadhafi who distanced himself from the old regime, is seen as a pious man and a Sufi follower of Islam who is at odds with extremism.
He has already said that the new Libya would not adopt any extremist ideology, and sought to reassure the international community by stating on Monday that Libyans were moderate Muslims.
Nevertheless, Libya's Islamists are a rising force in the country's political arena, some of whom, such as Abdelhakim Belhaj, the founder of the Al-Qaeda linked but now-disbanded Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), are expected to hold prominent positions...
Study the history of revolutions and see how they turn out when former leaders are disposed of like this, and then multiply it by 2 because it's in the Muslim/Islamist/Arab world.
The people who think Gadhafi was illegally mistreated and shouldn't have been killed should read this article. These people went through hell and these liberal types are poking their noses where they shouldn't. I am glad the Libyans took care of this.
Contrary to the lies in this article, the Libyan army did not indiscriminately shell Misrata, but attacked the rebel-held areas in a legal and justifed effort to retore control. NATO involvement prevented the army from overcoming the rebels while their foreign backers (Saudi, Qatar, UAE etc) poured weapons and mercenary fighters into the city. The majoity of Misratas population do do support these islamic revolutionaries, but they dare no speak up else they will find their throat cut and homes torched.
Gazza - reality just does not jive with your opinion. Gadhafi is a war criminal. His soldiers and loyalists are war criminals. UN, NATO and allies & anti-Gadhafi forces represent the force of good and justice in this conflict. This is how the history books will be written. This is how American school children will remember this conflict.
You can not with any legitimacy create your own narrative simply because you don't like the outcome that your warmonger/war criminal hero Gadhafi has been defeated and killed. You can believe whatever 'truth' you desire within the confines of your mind, but reality is what it is - and you can't change that.
No Anthony, you are the one who is wrong, and utterly so, though it may take awhile before the truth filters through.
Ghadaffi is bitterly hated by these people not because he is a brutal greedy tyrant (which he isn't) but because he refused to allow Sharia law or allow the religious conservatives influence in government. The Jamahriya was a socialist and secular state, and islamic activists and militants had tried to use force of arms on several occassions to introduce Sharia. Each time, the government fought them and oprevailed and the West looked on approvingly.
As for American school children, they are still taught that the atomic bombings of japan were justified and saved 1 million lives. That is of course sheer propaganda, but i guess you belive it too?
I suppose you believe that the US desruction of Fallujah was justified, and taht noone except "terrorists" were killed?
Looks like we have allied ourselves with the usually bunch of fanatics and thugs.
The types that collaborate with empires in the exploitation of their country are usually not the kind of people you would invite over to the house for dinner.
(unless you had a trap door with an alligator pit under their chair)
Gaza. Children being taught about the ending of WW2 with nukes are actually very correct in lives they saved. My grandfather fought through the Europeon campaign and was being retrained for a land invasion of Japan after. And they armed every last civilian who was willing to die then be captured. Your making opinions and not basing anything off fact which you are passing it off as
Also funny we did not lose anyone in this but another Murderer of Americans is killed and people are mad about it. Not mad at the guy giving a plane bomber a parade but mad hes dead and things changed there
No tw1sted, you are utterly wrong on every score. Japan was secretly suing for peace and looking for a face-saving deal that would allow them to keep the Emperor. The US rebuffed and ignored the overtures while they prepared the nukes, and dropped them to intimidate the Soviets with their new wonder weapon.
Fact - WWII in the pacific could have been ended months before, and without deliberate the slaughter of 200,000 civilians. The nuke attack was unnecessary and entirely an action of choice.
Finally tw1sted, Libya had NOTHING to do with Lockerbie. The evidence presented at the trial was asham and had been fabricated by US/UK intelligence agencies. the chief witness was shown pictures of the accused prior to the line-ups, and was paid millions of dollars and given a new identity for his "cooperation". One of the original trial judges has admitted publicy that the conviction was wrong, and an enquiry concluded that a miscarrage of justice may have occurred and an appeal had been granted. Megrahi was forced to abandon his appeal as part of his release on humanitarian grounds, so that he could not clear his name.
tw1sted, you certaibly live up to your name. This man was innocent, but stupid Americans are so full of hatred that they ignore what is in front of them and happily allow the true criminals to escape justice while an innocent man is pilloried and his life ruined. Just pathetic.
Until a few months ago Gaddafi was in good terms with the West, he shook hands with George Bush and Obama, Western business and investments in Libya were booming, but now he was a war criminal.
Anyway, playing with dead bodies is still disgusting, barbaric and against any religious beliefs, kill the guy and buried him as soon as possible.

If I am understanding the reference of this article, it seems to be stating that the Misratains are justified in their harsh stance against town of Tawergha because the Misratians had a hard several months of fighting? Is that correct? They are justifing in completely destroying the town of Tawergha?
Assuming small numbers for a town as being 10,000+ citizen. Are we to believe that 100% of the those 10,000+ citizen were involved in the seige of Misrata? All of the citizens of Tawergha have to lose their homes and possessions because Misrata was seiged?
Gazza may be a bit harsh on is wording, but he may have a point in that it just does not seem right to assume just because Misrata had a hard time, it is justified that ALL of the citizen of another town must lose their houses and possessions. Didn't the Misratain's get enough new TVs and carpets from looting Sirte?
Anthony Seta, you are ignorant, misinformed moron who needs to drink his coo laid. Shut up and get high with your cool aid. Hope, God curse Misrata City like Gomorra; change them and their little ones into apes. People in Misrata are no Muslims, they are disgusting jackal.
More propaganda from islamic radicals, brought to your livings rooms courtesy of corporate media... truly pathetic.
These wahabbist scum are rascists and murders. Tawergha was targetted because the people who lived there were black, and for no other reason. Corporate media has distributed the Rats lies about "mercenaries" when the reality is that they were mostly foreign guest workers. Many Ghadaffi supporters are black libyans, immigrants from the countries southern areas, whom Ghadaffi had encouraged to integrate as part of his pan-africanism ideas. The Rats summarily murdered and abused all the blacks they could find, included public executions and hacking off victims heads. Simply appalling, yet Western media ignored the horror and kept up the lies. Contrast the differing reactions between the Libyan jihadists murders and the beheading of Daniel Perle by AQ. Indifference on one hand, outrage on the other.
First of all, Gadaffi was offered a situation where he could leave Libya and go live in another country in retirement. He refused and started killing anyone who opposed his rule. I have no problem with how Gadaffi met his fate! He chose his path to stand and kill innocent people and he got what he deserved.
What do you expect when you have paid killers brought into Libya to fight for Gadaffi? These soldiers should know better than to get mixed up in a civil war. It's to bad for them that they want to risk their life for a Mass Murderer and maniac like Gadaffi.
Alan, so much wrong with your post, I dont even know where to start...
First, ghadaffi was indicted by the ICC (a politicals tich-up) so that negated any exile deal, even assuming he didn't intend to defend his country
Second, innocent people were not being killed. The Libyan army was fighting against armed insurrectionists led by LIFG and other radical groups. people armed with kalashnikovs, RPGs and heavy machine guns are not democracy demonstrators...
Thirdly, the claims of government killing peaceful demonstrators are bogus. They were claims the rebels used to encourage NATO support and have since been shown by HR groups as being false. Remember the claims about "viagra fuelled rapes?"
Finally, the loyalists are not mercenaries but Libyan citizens. Being an African country, Libya has a significant black population, and Ghaddaffi policies were to encourage black development and integration, and this had earned him the loyalty of many. Libyas oil wealth also meant that it could secure foreign guest workers (as do all other rich oil producing nations), mostly from black sub-saharan African nations. The wahabbist arabs despise the blacks for racial reasons, and accused them of being "mercenaries" and western media accepted these claims without qualm. The subsequent murder spree clearly shows the comtempt the jihadists have for people of darker skin.
Alan, your views are boiler-plate propaganda rhetoric driven by political prejudice and media bias. Its not your fault, but I suggest that you read more and diverisfy your sources of information beyond corporate media.
Gazza
there were many women, children and old people were killed. from both side's. watching the Rebel's running with heightened vigor into the range of fire was astonishing to say the least. I applaud their voice for wanting freedom. perhaps this will take the way's of civil people to have more freedom. especially the female's. Gad, the thought of wearing what they had to in public, didn't have the civil use of driving or show their face. No, I don't expect to see any anywhere with nothing but a pasti on their boobs but when men start wearing their belts at their cracks they have then lost.
For now, I wish them all well on the start of a grand country.
Those "rebels" were probably friends, comrades, or even the same people running with heightened vigor(Jihad) at NATO establishments in Afghanistan, though I suspect you will have a different opinion because of the location change.
You got it backwards, if you think females are going to get more freedom, then you need to read up on Shariah Law, which the "rebels" are going to implement and enforce with less than peaceful means.
You'd have thought they would have gone a more diplomatic approach, always going to force, where no one wins. Try sitting down at the table, discussing needs, and goals, and really try working together, much better outcomes will come.
The citizens of Misrata are the true heroes of the 21st century battlefield. The overpowering and ultimately defeating the medieval Gadhafi siege engine places these fighters on the same pedestal as the Russian soldiers, sailors and civilians that defended Stalingrad in 1942-43. Absolutely amazing!! I'm awe inspired by these men and women who fought back against the aggressor Gadhafi forces and smashed them.
Gadhafi got what he earned. I would have liked to see him stand trial, but this outcome is actually better since it lets the liberated Libya move forward without the shadow of the regime dominating news from the Hague or from a Tripolitanian courtroom. Anyway, the number one son and other regime hardliners have been captured and will stand trial. It will be a second rate reality show without papa Gadhafi, but a Nuremberg-like trial nonetheless which should keep things interesting.
You really are deluded. The wahabbists that have been funded and organised by Saudi/Qatar etc will remain the true power in Libya, and they will not accept a democratic system that denies them power. An islamic Libyan republic is their goal, and they will not be denied.
This entire affair is a tragedy ofmonumental proportions. A modern developing nation with the highest human development index in Africa has been destroyed and handed over to the snarling radical mob with guns. The nations black population (both native and foreign guest workers) has been systematically terrorised by racist religious goons, and West simply averts its collective eyes.
As for your Stalingrad analogy, that must surely be a jest? NATO fighter jets, cruise missiles and drones attacked the Libyan army and its supply lines, while saudi/Qatari-funded mercenaries and NATO special forces infiltrated via the port (this is the truth, deny all you wish, but it doesn't change facts).
Anthony, you fail on all accounts. I feel pity for close minded people whio cannot tell when they are being lied to.
I'd say the 20,000 Afghan locals keeping 250,000 NATO/ US gov't forces and mercs in a stalemate now 10+ years deserve the 21st Century fighting award. No one helps them, and the techno armies with their whiz-bangs and zip wowees can't beat them.
Only becausde the rules of engagment are so tight. If civilian causalties were not a concern, such in WWII, they be no war now. Maybe not many people either, but no war. The population would have been completely starved by now. Do you realize after WWII ended people were starvin for about 2 years WITH US aid?
Mac-101 I'm not so sure, the terrain dictates the engagement, we can't use 90% of our superior weaponry in mountains and we don't want to climb and fight them without air support, even less in winter, so again not so sure, more like an unproven theory.
It's hard as h3ll to hide thermal imaging ALL the time, only cross over times. The mountains are so denuded ya stick out like a sore thumb. Also, it's easy to disrupt the food supply, that's why in even peace, they all come out of the mountains and hole up till spring. If ya wanted to starve the populace, like we did in WWII, it would be over in a year.
However, I say give it and Pakistan to the Red Chinese. They will control it like N Korea in 5 to 10 years anyhow. Afghanistan is full of capped natural gas wells from the Soviets, copper ore and rare earths.
Citizens of Misrata are morons worse than people Gomorra, and must be converted into apes and jackals. They have no place in a civilized world. They don't know what Sharia law is; Sharia law protects weak, vulnerable, captives and prisoners of wars. But they only want that part of Sharai law that allows them to subjugate women, and marry underage girls. Disgusting creatures, and should not even be interviewed by U. S. journalists.
Gadhafi failed in his attempt to keep Libya on a gold and silver barter system ... now the new rulers will sell Libyan oil for US fiat dollars and the standard of living will fall. Look for more confusion and turmoil in the coming months and as usual the media will not report on the coming poverty that will overcome these people. Now the real pain will begin ... and Libya will be ripe for another strong man to come along, but this time it might be a real Islamic leader which will unite all Islamics under the caliphat.
That's the plan, ain't goin to be pretty. The New World Order wants the ME to be eaten by da Majic Mushroom so they can move in after it's depopulated and rebuild Jerusalem and Solomons Temple for the head of the One World Gov, Finance and religion, probably Baha'i.
Gazza: Unfortunately, the whole of the Middle East is - to use your own words - "a failure of monumental proportions" largely for the reason you gave; Whahabbists, and other reasons too numerous to mention, such as being trapped in a Medeival time warp. How else would an Arab country ruled by an oppressiver dictator oust the man, by going to the voting stations. It's true what Bill Clinton once said in an oped addressed to the Arab world in general and Palestine in partcular: ...we make microchips and you make potato chips".
By the way, having the "highest human develpoment index" in Africa does not leave much of an impression on me, we are talking about Africa, places like Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Chad and the list goes on. Too bad more Lybians didn't benefit from MK's benevolence, he would still be alive and in power, a Noble Prize winner and Man of the Year several times over. Instead, he murdered his way through power, amassed a personal fortune estimatd in the billions, oppressed and tyranized many of the people outide his tribe and circle of supporters - only he died a humiliating, excruciating death. Good!! And good riddance.
Are you thinking of Syria? I don't have the popularity figures for the rulers of Jordan right at my fingertips, but I believe they have a pretty stable and pro-western government and aren't having a revolution at the moment.
Now they have their freedom and what do they do but make Sharia Law their governing voice. Some freedom and the women will get a real taste of freedom now.
Egypt and Saudi Arabia as well as good allies like Kuwait and UAE are all Sharia law. It a matter of a taliban style or a UAE style. I doubt the younger generation will deal will with the Taliban style considering thats the majority of the population and is very westernized
Yeah like Egypt was suppose to be so westernized? LOL Egypt has a ninety percentile range for female genital mutilations. In Dubai the wives are trying to get sex slavery legalized and in Egypt it exists and is commonly accepted. Forced conversions forced marriages acts of revenge rape within marriage is acceptable under Sharia and the list goes on.
Explain UAE? Been their myself when I was with the Army. Sharia law their to. And can you provide some links of 90% of Egyptian women being mutilated. I am not saying I agree with the principles. But their are different versions of it
You're daft. Of course Lybia will have Sharia Law, its a moslem country.
Sharia Law is not bad. How it is applied can be, depending upon who is enforcing it.
But Lybians will have secular law right alongside Sharia, and when Sharia does not cover a particular problem, secular law will.
Lybians have been civilized for more than two thousand years. They aren't savages, and they aren't stupid.
And you're seriously mistaken of you think that half of their population will put up with being second-class citizens under Islam. Not gonna happen, Lybian women aren't that dumb.
Twisted you can google it with female genital mutilation in egypt. To the rest of you Muslim men out there God is watching and you shall surely pay for your Taqiyya and your cruelty to women.
Chaos so I suppose you support that there is no rape in marriage because that is the position in Sharia Law. Once a woman is paid for her body belongs to her husband and she does not have the right to say no. What kind of man are you? Obviously a Muslim one.
Local fury is why Bush and Cheney never spent the night in Baghdad, and why Obama will not either. When you kill folks' children, deny them a way to earn a living, and pollute the landscape with military waste, you might get drawn and quartered if caught.
The sort of rage you espouse won't help Libya one bit. It would be far better for you to try to devise something more productive.
On a wider scale, the "hatred" that consumes these fighters represents exactly the kind of chaotic hysteria that prevents the Middle East from developing rational governing bodies.
Now that Gadhaffi is gone, Obama has killed yet another guy that killed lots of Americans.
So, will Bush and Cheney be next on the list? Afterall, they are responsible for sending nearly 5,000 of our servicemen to their deaths, 50,000 tramatically injured, and also destroyed the United States in the process.
Ghadaffi has never killed lots of Americans. Libya was not responsible for Lockerbie, or it seems the Berlin disco bombing (signs are that teh intercepted signals were Mossad fabrication).
Maybe you are aware of some Libyan actions that the rest of the world is unaware of?
Gazza is the worst jackass I have ever seen in print. And he lies like a dog!
Matador the second is next to Gazza. Neither of you know a thing about what you are talking about. I'm quite old & have seen war. Some of it isn't always perfect. WWII had to be won, but there were parts that were not very good to know or see. But if it wasn't done then our country would have been under "Gazza".
Let's give those in Libya a chance to get it better. They've been through good & bad, & they have a good chance to work it out. Especially since they have the oil money to use for every one & not how Ghadaffi, his family, & his friends used it. They can rebuild the damaged areas. They can have money for what they need. And it will be figuring it out as to what it is & what it is not. Schooling will help I'm sure. (Some of those idiots in the US say that we have helped them just so they could get our oil.)
(1) Thank God they didn't hurt his daughter, Alesha. Boy, is she hot!
(2) How can a guy with billions of dollars to spend not be able to get his a$$ out of the oven when the temperature got too hot?
(3) Is something like this ever going to happen in the USA or do people still remember Waco & Ruby Ridge and what happens to those who fight the system?
(4) Where are these rebels getting all the guns & ammo? Is Mexico selling them the stuff they're getting from the US?
(5) Is the new boss going to distribute the wealth down to the people or hog it like the old boss did?
I think it's fair to say Gadhafi had a good run. Don't forget, he exposed a lot of people and organisations for what they really are. How can we not be reminded it's always been about the oil.
Egypt has a mix of Sharia law and French law - you don't see people there oppressed. Some American laws are based on Christian principles - I see nothing wrong with that. Libyan legislators when they begin to draft laws they will have to borrow ideas from the French or Italian laws and may base some parts on Sharia law (same as Egypt). As to Gaddafi he deserves what he got. Those who benefited from his rule see him as a savior - after all they have been taught in school to equate him to God (God, Muammer, Libya in that order). This person stole Libya's wealth for himself and his children. He was an embarrassment to most Libyans. Maybe that is alright to some, but your opinion of him will be different if a brother or parent or relative was murdered by his henchmen under his order or if your sister or mother was raped by his men. Remember the university kids he hanged shortly after he took power. Their only sin was requesting a constitution for Libya. So he hanged them and enforced the green book and idea of jamaheryah on everybody. Good riddance to such an evil human.
"This person stole Libya's wealth for himself and his children"
That is a lie. While Ghadaffi was undoubtedly wealthy (all national leaders are btw) he lived a lifestyle that was compartively frugal compred to the leaders of oher oil-rich ME states - consider the vulgar displays of wealth by the Saudi, Kuwait, Qatari, UAE royalty, skeiks etc etc
The "billions" that people speak of are NOT Ghadaffis funds but the national soveriegn wealth fund. To say that this was his 'stolen money" is quite frankly absurd and clearly demonstrates your ignorance.
The Libyan government (not Ghadaffi) invested the proceeds from oil in foreign (mostly Western) fainancial systems, and repatriated the money as and when infrastruture projects and social needs dictated. The wealth fund was the governments way of saving for the future - Libya had about 200 billion in cash and ZERO debt. It had the highest human development index in Africa, and a standard of living ranked above Portugal.
As for the rest of your post, it is lies and propaganda, unsubstantiated rumour without details or context. I prefer facts over speculation and prejudice.
Gazza - oh please one of his sons had a $16 Million apartment in England, most of his sons were educated in England and for you to say he lived a frugal life is pure
BS - look at his trappings and look at his people - why the hell did you think they had an uprising? I guess because they were well fed - had good jobs and had a voice in the outcome of their country - you are spouting garbage - happy people don't uprise - especially think if your leader called you a cockroach!
Strike that that's what the Republicans are calling you, maybe in not those words , but in their actions - Screw America - let's get Obama - and get on with our thievery
Gazza: In one of your earlier messages you called someone "narrow-minded". Boy, does that shoe fit your foot. You need to read more, but first, commit yourself to being open-minded to other views, articles and opinions. The gap in your narrow mind is so narrow that an atom wouldn't have enough distance to make a quantum leap!
Barbara, have you any idea how much a decent apartment in London or new York costs? You think a 16M apartment (that was most likely State owned rather than his private property) is in anyway comparable to the golden palaces of the Saudi kings or Kuwaiti princes? While gadhaffi family lived well, they simply didnt aspire to the vulgar excesses of other ME hereditary leaders. Why do you even bother to deny this?
Nuff said. Corporate media has poisoned peoples minds in the USA so its useless to try to reason with you. Its amazing that even after the lies and propaganda of the US invasion of Iraq and war-crimes committed in the name of 911 and "democracy" that people like you can still put your faith in these souless pressitutes.
Egyptian laws are working out real well for the Copts. How many got run over by military vehicles, and the others shot? Don't have to worry about any of those NEW ugly Christian Churches in Egypt. LOL!
Yes MSNBC this story of yours sure justifies us in becoming just like Qaddafi or the Miserata Islamic hoodlums. I am sure that you and Mr. Obama will use this line to justify cold blooded Murder of a Human being. When we justify the end of rule of law and reasoned justice to murderers we become them and are no different. Qaddafi was a cold blooded killer that is not in doubt. He was not reformable that is not in doubt. He deserves to die that is not in doubt. But once we deny rule of law, trial by jury of peers or old subjects, like the US has done with Bin laden (Murdered in his Bedroom at night without resisting). Alwaki a US citizen (blown up from above) and now Qaddafi, then we negate everything that Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Ben Franklin, George Washington, Nathan Hale, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock built in your great land. God save America becuase it is becoming just like many of the other misguided lost lands.
when governments and criminals team up to destroy thier people like the US government and it's masters ...they deserve to be killed in the streets with all the shame due them....soon it will happen here....they earned it...they'll get it
Sorry pal, but these things most definately ARE in doubt. I would dispute each one of your assertations as they are nothing but your own prejudices and those of self-confirmed Ghaddafi enemies.
jj- Canada - I guess when they drawn and quartered Mussollini - you were OK with that - most dictators - know their fate, especially when they gave no thought to their countryman
jj-canada: Your message has some good "food for thought" and, as an objective, loyal and proud American, I can accept your criticism. Just one thing though; this is how brtual dictators usually end up. If we can bring them to trial, we will. However, getting MK away from the Lybians and getting our hands on him was probably never in the cards. I wonder how our founding fathers would have handled this.
Gadhafi got just what he screamed at the rebels. That they were rats, he was in a hole. That he would turn the streets red with their blood. He bled out driving through the streets. Words are powerful reminders of how vulnerable the human is.
This is prelude for things to come. Obama adm.+CIA trained, armed, financed and helped with NATO fire power and Predators and booits on the ground to take out Quaddafi with the help of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Firce (LIFG) an affiliate of al Queda and terrorist killers of Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan. US could easily have detained Quaddafi and hauled him to Hague- the change no one can believe in- is the Obama motto for Libya- fundamentalist Islamic theocracy in the making- no wonder they burned both women's salons and advanced school labs and books. Massacring, executing, detaining w/o accounting for innocent civilians that Obama prevaricated as a reason to interfere in Libya- looting, burning, fleeing civilians never to be allowed to return (Obama's resettlemnt policy); warlords blossoming in the aftermath-since Obama never insisted of arms being returned (the missing missiles- who got them- tell us Obama-who do you think got them?)War crimes -executions of detainees-prisoners of war- there was a warrant out for Quaddafi- yet everybody can see that he was slaughtered/butchered- is Obama aware of Geneva Conventions- you paid for these savage thugs). Would you please tell the American people President Obama why you spent overtly $1.5 billion and triply that covertly to ousr Quaddafi and doom the citizens of Libya to the yoke of fundamentalist, terrorist, warlord/theocracy ? WHY? Are Americans really that brainwashed not to see the thumbprint of Cain on the wall?
These rabble are so much better than their predecessor. Hope Hillary and O'muslim like what they created. Their bo mbs didn't just k i ll military.
We'll see. So far they haven't blown up two civilian airliners or bombed any discos in Germany, nor have they attempted to build a nuclear bomb, like Qaddafi did.
Here's the short-term scenario that I believe:
The rebel leadership contacted their masters in the U.S., "We've located Gadhafi. His capture is certain."
Hillary replied, "I will arrive immediately to discuss it with you".
Hillary arrives "unexpectedly" in Libya.
Her discussion with the rebel leaders: "We want Gadhafi killed **immediately**. Do you understand? Immediately! If you do not understand, we will order NATO to 'accidentally' bomb your people a few times more."
Remember Vince Foster!!!
The Truth and Nothing but the Truth - you are one sick puppy!
The truth scares me. It's inconvenient and disturbing at the same time.

Comment # 1 restored for clarity.
Study the history of revolutions and see how they turn out when former leaders are disposed of like this, and then multiply it by 2 because it's in the Muslim/Islamist/Arab world.
I hope I am wrong. I fear I am right.
You truly are deluded.

Ther are NO good guys in the ME. Let the killin begin, or should I say continue.
Gazza
there were many women, children and old people were killed. from both side's. watching the Rebel's running with heightened vigor into the range of fire was astonishing to say the least.
You got it backwards, if you think females are going to get more freedom, then you need to read up on Shariah Law, which the "rebels" are going to implement and enforce with less than peaceful means.
bottom dog in the pile always rises leaving no prisoners in their wake. should not be a surprise to anybody.
You'd have thought they would have gone a more diplomatic approach, always going to force, where no one wins. Try sitting down at the table, discussing needs, and goals, and really try working together, much better outcomes will come.
Kind of like the war drunk US political thugs in suits with their lies about Iraq pre-invasion and the threats against militarily inferior Iran now.
Gazza's 100% correct.
That country are not broke, all the oil surplus will gather them billion's and to hope there is no interfighting amongt them.
Hope the same fate awaits the king of Jordan and his family, wherever they flee after their revolution.
Are you thinking of Syria? I don't have the popularity figures for the rulers of Jordan right at my fingertips, but I believe they have a pretty stable and pro-western government and aren't having a revolution at the moment.
Dictators and politicians the world over should take note of the violence that they can be rewarded with for their misdeeds.
So... is Bush & Cheney getting punished for destroying our country any time soon?
coming soon to the US...the blood of the rich, will be the wine of the poor
ROFL, not to negate Bush's misdeeds but this current president has really done so much more to destroy this great country. What a joke!
Wow. It took no time for the winners of the war to pick a new group of people to hate. Humans are such funny animals.
Now they have their freedom and what do they do but make Sharia Law their governing voice. Some freedom and the women will get a real taste of freedom now.
You don't know anything about life in Libya before 2011 nor now.
When you kill folks' children, deny them a way to earn a living, and pollute the landscape with military waste, you might get drawn and quartered if caught.
should be blockhead
Oh Man! I thought that was a B also not a G.
I will start wearing my glasses!
Bury this piece of excrement with he entrails of slaughtered pigs!
Legal Immigrant 66:
The sort of rage you espouse won't help Libya one bit. It would be far better for you to try to devise something more productive.
On a wider scale, the "hatred" that consumes these fighters represents exactly the kind of chaotic hysteria that prevents the Middle East from developing rational governing bodies.
Justice for Libyans by Libyans
^ Right. Good luck with that!!
Some of the comments I overheard at work today:
Just sayin'....
I think it's fair to say Gadhafi had a good run. Don't forget, he exposed a lot of people and organisations for what they really are. How can we not be reminded it's always been about the oil.
This whole ghastly affair doesn't do much for the image of so called "semitic" people.
Are you really going to sell your racism here? All races have done their share of evil, Hitler was caucassion.
LOL!
One brutal dictator down, now Libya can rebuild, hopefully start with a better leader.
I wonder how our founding fathers would have handled this.
sure wish i could get my hands on some of our govcorp traitors
