I hope Amanda Knox can write a book and earn a huge sum of money to help defray the legal burden she and her family have accumulated. What else can she do right now? Her unsolicited notoriety will follow her for a very long time making it impossible to get any other type of job.
They are already advertising for a book and movie deal, let alone the rounds on talk shows. Why do you think this article was written... to drum up sympathy and dollar$.
Personally, I think she knows exactly what happened that night. They were all high and in a state of ecstasy. Once the high wore off they realized that none of it was not a dream after all. Someone died here.... tantalizing stuff!!
I am not buying anything nor will have I watched any of the interviews since her fighting for her freedom...I am not shocked or surprised that she is free, I already new that was coming, but I cannot support those who have murdered someone senselessly. Don't get me wrong, I know the evidence could not prove her guilty, this does not mean she is innocent either...Age has and experience has given me an appreciation to understand the difference between being worldly guilty and truthfully guilty.
Innocent or not, I think the girl acted foolishly. Lying to police, smirking and doing cartwheels in court, showing no signs of trauma or upset over her roommate's horrible death, not to mention the drinking and drugging--these things really hurt her case and her reputation. So, truthfully, some of this ordeal she brought on herself.
Because of this, I am disgusted that she will come home now and become a celebrity. This girl needs some long, intense therapy and time alone to heal and sort through lessons learned. Money and celebrity will not heal her. Being more in the spotlight can only ruin her character more and lead to possibly more drinking and drugs in an effort to drown the past. Our society is so stupid and exploitive.
I am curious how f-ing stupid you people are who still accuse her of being guilty or knowing more then she has said. I mean are you legally retarded? IQ under 80 or what? Obviously you know nothing about the legal system. Its a highly stressing thing. I know for a fact the you people lie everyday about little things so adding stress to that makes things worse combine with a foreign system. I mean its pathetic that you'd even open your stupid f-ing mouth just shut it and keep it to yourself. You just make yourself look like a moron. I could have the cops arrest you show you "fake" evidence and get you to lie all over the place!
With your insane approach to making someone a celebrity to make money off of a murder is really out there. Did you remember the victim in this where she was forgotten all about. With your insane words I can see you dont really know a Truth but will believe it on her case. Guessing she should have been someone other then a white woman.. should it have been another one that is like maybe Chinese, Japanese, Mexican or even Black African American. They would have let them rot in jail. I say she should have never lied about it at all so she could have gotten a better sympathy from crying all over the media for money that she owes. I say let her pay her own bills. You can help out of the pocket.. I know I certainly will not contribute!
Chad, I would never address the ignorant as you just did, but I felt like it. Amazing how many ignorant people are out there. There is NOTHING to tie Amanda to the murder. Everything presented earlier in this case can be easily explained away. So many people just skimmed the salacious headlines etc and feed off each others lack of facts of the case. I wish Amanda nothing but the best. I have been in her corner for years due to the facts of the case presented. That is right FACTS. They, (the FACTS) are out there people.
Well, Chad, we know that first she said she was at the house and heard the victim's screams, and she implicated an innocent man, but later she changed her story. That would got you in trouble with the police in any country, including the United States.
I'm not saying she is a cold-blooded murderer, but I think she had something to do with Kercher's death.
Ms. Knox should be very careful. Her case is on appeal and it would appear in Italy, they can use anything you say or do against you. She was convicted of "slander" (not a crime in the USA) for accusing some bar owner of the murder and sentenced to 3 years but released on "time served". Clearly, she did not exactly have her nose in her text books that evening. She should count her lucky stars and say nothing or risk extradition and/or more time in an Italian jail.
You realize that these WERE THINGS the police said she said. She was interrogated for 48 hours IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE that she barely understood. Now give me 48 hours with your dumbass and I could get you to confess to the murders and say whatever. I mean obviously you know nothing about how these things and why idiots like yourself think she is guilty. But do the world a favor and google why police interrogation doesn't work and you will realize that an innocent person is NOT LIKELY TO ASK FOR A LAWYER OR HELP. That a guilty person is more likely to run which she could have done! again my IQ is over 130 moron
Chad, It is only the truly ignorant who cannot express themselves without using the f-word and other expletives. Do you not have a vocabulary other than the f-word? When you speak of ignorance... do not look too far... in fact look in the mirror. Then, when you are finished, pick up a dictionary and find some new words.
No again this is something stupid people say to make themselves feel better because they do not feel comfortable using the f word. It is sad that just because your dumbass doesn't like using the word you have to try and put other people down for it. Its really just sad and pathetic. Now I for one know for a fact that I have a better vocabulary then yourself and i don't have to put other people down for their CHOICE of words instead. I insult the stupid things they say with 0 FACTS to back them up. If you had half the brain I did you might understand but keep living in your little shell
People Amanda was interrogated for 24 hours straight without the presence of an Attorney, no interpreter, (with very little ability of the Italian language), no water, food etc. In fact the police/Prosecutor found a text to Amanda's boss, Lumbetta (sp) saying she would "see him later". In English "see you later" could mean a week or more. In Italian it meant that night which happened to be the night of the murder. The police zeroed in on that and suggested to Amanda during her interrogation that it was her and Lumbetta. Amanda caved in to the police and said FINE - anything to get the police to stop. The next morning with an Attorney she re-tracted the statement. Come on people! Amanda is not just not guilty she is INNOCENT!
The POLICE and Prosecutor were convinced that their concocted, ridiculous motive would be ideal for a conviction. Just saying it would do the trick for Italy. Let's see hmmmmm. Amanda and Rafaelle smoked a joint, ran in to a complete stranger, (Rudy Guede -convicted criminal), and decide they needed to have a violent sex orgy and therefore decided that Meredith did not want to participate, so they needed to all violently kill her. YOU ALL MUST BE KIDDING ME IF YOU BOUGHT THAT.
Over three years ago, I said to myself - no way. Then I made it a kind of hobby to look into this so called case. You should be ashamed of your selves - that is those who believe what that Crooked Prosecutor fed you.
Thank God Amanda and Raffaelle are free. The Italians finally did the right thing.
Hey darth, I am sorry that people talking @!$%# without proof pisses me. I feel sorry that you dont have a soul and wish to defend the innocent. but as for obnoxious your douchebag comment was more obnoxious then anything i have said.
An innocent girl incarcerated for four years with bogus evidence. Her family and friends do everything to help including bankrupting some. I think she has a right to cash in on a book on the horrendous experience. Amanda was innocent and her and Rafaellle were railroaded.... Four years ago she went into a Police station to help the police find the killer of Kercher never dreaming she would be the lead suspect, be arrested and convicted in a foreign country? huh? Yes book please. Glad to have Amanda back on US soil.
As regards those who insist Amanda told the Italian police investigators a changing story, I wonder how well they would understand the questions and comments of those investigators, who spoke very little English and questioned Amanda repeatedly in Italian, let alone how well the investigators would interpret their responses - as the investigators repeatedly and erroneously interpreted Amanda's responses. It is always easy to judge someone based on simple guidelines one has learned on CSI or Cold Case Files - "if they change their story, they are guilty", "if the victim was married, the spouse is the murderer", and other asinine theories. The comments here really go to show who has gotten all their information about this whole case from the media in the form of 30 or 60-second sound bytes instead of taking the time to read the wealth of information available online - including but not limited to, complete trial transcripts, transcripts of interrogations, and much more. Had they educated themselves, they would have come to an entirely different conclusion - in fact, they would conclude exactly as the appeals panel did - Amanda Knox is innocent.
Freedom is never free, and Amanda's parents and grandparents have paid a hefty price, but I am quite certain they will never regret the spending of a single penny of that money. Unfortunately, there are very few parents in America who would have gone to the same lengths to stand behind and believe in their child when all the world was against them. Her parents are to be commended, and Amanda should be eternally grateful for their fight to see justice for her.
Amen!!! to Dean A. Glenn. Finally, after all of the comments that I have read so far, he is the ONLY one that obviously has any education at all. He is the only one that has been able to write, spell and use proper words properly. On so many comments, I see the work "then" used where "than" should be used as well as many. many misspelled words and punctuation. Please people, go back to school!!! You are pathetic - one of the many reasons our society is in trouble!
Now - for the Amanda Knox situation - I guess time will tell. Knowing the history of brutality of foreign prisons, I would say she is innocent! The judge himself has been found guilty of criminal activity - so the news says - and he is her judge? Wow! Sounds like a very corrupt judicial system to me. Convicting innocent people of crimes they didn't commit to justify their own criminal activity - also pathetic. What a "screwed up" world we live in today. Feel so sorry for our children and grandchildren growing up in this "big mess".
Actually its called being honest. Something you would know nothing about. Nothing i have done is considered bullying moron. yeah i curse but i can actually see someone for who they are. Not who they are lying to make themselves out to be. BUt again keep being a stupid troll. I am sure troll like yourself has lots of "friends"
Did they prove she's innocent? She didn't appear innocent to me. I think America's public opinion and outrage causin she's American swayed global opinion.
I think this alone, pronounced her free. Italy was sick of America's moanin and groanin. They wanted to get rid of this entire fiasco.
Guilt or innocence wasn't the issue. American was outraged, and this was the sentence and the issue.
yeah they prove beyond reasonable doubt that she is Innocent. She was nowhere in the room. There is no evidence that places her anywhere near the room. They have the murderer who only implicated her AFTER the prosecutor offered him a deal to do so!!! Horrible people truly I hope the prosecutor gets what he deserves
Actually, skor, you cannot prove innocence. Can't prove a negative -- that someone did NOT do something (to quote one of my favorite Jon Stewart bits ever about Nancy Grace and her ridiculousness on the Duke Lacrosse case, "prove she wasn't out raping puppies last night"). This is why it is on the prosecutors (supposed to be, anyway) to prove **beyond a reasonable doubt** that any defendant is guilty. Because you CAN prove guilt.
And with regard to the Knox case, if anyone missed this part in their reading of the case, I'll just remind everyone -- there were four possible outcomes: (1) original conviction (and sentence) withheld; (2) original conviction withheld and (per the prosecution's request) original sentence *increased* to life in prison; (3) original conviction withheld and sentence reduced (this is what happened with the man who HAS admitted to being at the scene of the crime and whose DNA actually IS at the crime scene -- as well as on the victim); and (4) exoneration -- complete reversal of the original conviction.
As we all know, the court went with option 4. Not a partial reversal....a complete rejection of the original conviction. They ruled the evidence used to convict in the original trial was completely unreliable and did not indicate either of the defendants' presence at the crime scene that night.
Thank God that common sense finally prevailed, instead of pride and ego. It's just such a shame that it took four years for that to happen.
I think, to her at this point, it will be about getting her family out of debt first, not about how much money she can make off this. But at the very present moment, I'm sure she's just glad to be able to eat what she wants when she wants, sleep in her own bed and maybe even just go shopping when she wants.
"Her family has always said it would up to her. There will be no books or movies from anyone in the family. It's Amanda's choice, and if that’s what she wants to do, they’ll support her..."
No, actually, if that's what she want to do, she'll support them.
I'm still not confident she was entirely innocent. I'm not saying she did it, but I do believe she knows more than she is saying.
I say this because of all the twists and turns to her stories. The fact that she lied so much is enough for me to doubt her innocence. But, knowing the law and forensics, I do know that you need physical evidence to prove someone's guilt. This is something that is very haunting and does exist. Many people who are guilty are set free simply because there was not enough evidence to convict them.
At the same time, I would hate to see someone who is innocent serve unnecessary time behind bars.
Does anyone ever tell the whole truth when they go to court? No! Be that as it may, after the blunder of the Italian police department in gathering evidence, The prosecutor for making claims of witchcraft (wow, really? this day and age?), orgy's (no proof), and a drug user (OK, this i can believe, its Italy, need i say more?), and the judge, I find that she is innocent of murder. This kind of shoddy work speaks of the dark ages. I hope she makes a ton of money on her story to pay for the costs her family encored and to support her life afterwards.
Being further exploited and in the spotlight can only ruin her character more and lead to possibly more drinking and drugs in an effort to drown the past. Our society is so stupid and exploitive.
Yeah but you are just an idiot so please shut up and stop commenting! all 7 people who voted this up should just shut up and kill themselves the world would be better without you!
Chad - Are you listening to yourself? You spout off "stupid @!$%#" and then critisize others for doing what you just did. Also, you are in violation of the conduct code by threatening other posters with death. Not sure why some get away with it, but others don't.
I have not threatened anyone moron. I haven't spouted off anything stupid! AGAIN WHY DO YOU MORONS EVEN SPEAK WITHOUT EVIDENCE TO BACK IT UP!! seriously name one thing i've said that isn't true. Why do you trolls even speak how sad it is to be you
Chad-2204699 Yeah but you are just an idiot so please shut up and stop commenting! all 7 people who voted this up should just shut up and kill themselves the world would be better without you!
Chad-2204699 wow the only thing more pathetic then the idiots who spout off stupid @!$%# is the moron that defends them.
I am afraid I cannot have sympathy here as they will do fine with all the media scrambling for interviews, the talk shows, book deals, etc. I do agree with some that Amanda and her ex-boyfriend know more than they are saying.
If the money can be found to spring three knuckleheads screwing aroung on the iran border there should be some around for a totally innocent person. I'd just file bankruptcy and screw 'em. Wouldn't pay a dime.
Or, she can pay it off easily on the talk show circuit.
instead of the US giving china millions of dollars of aid each year for supposedly being a developing, when they steal american jobs, technology, and military secrets all along while flooding the economy with inferior and defective products...
a small portion of that wasted that money could help the knox family pay back their legal costs fighting her lynching in italian courts and the media.
and, why can't she sue the media there for slander or defamation of character?
berlesconi can get away with everything because he owns the media, and that's fair? seems prejudice and bias is the norm in italy.
i know in some countries in europe you can't sue, and probably especially the government, but one of these days, the media needs to be held accountable for their loose cannons and defamation just to sensationalize the news for ratings.
Amanda Knox's freedom leaves family shackled by debt
Drugs, kinky sex, and a fascination with kitchen knives comes with a price. They should be able to pay everything off when her new book, "If I Did It - Again", comes out.
nibor, did you actually look at the evidence that was called into serious question? Did you actually look at what the prosecution had? I don't think you did. Amanda didn't do it! Her DNA would've been all over the murder scene. And no, you can't eliminate your own DNA and leave someone else's.
If they were smart they would declare bankruptcy. It is sickening that a false accusation and bogus charges can ruin a family in an effort to defend against them. Proof that the court systems everywhere hold us all hostage. I truly hope Amanda writes a book and makes a million-plus. She has earned it.
Cbru, no it is not OK, but you need to understand the context in which she made the accusation. Her interrogators basically lead her into that conclusion. It wasn't something she just blurted out.
Innocent or not, I think the girl acted foolishly. Lying to police, smirking and doing cartwheels in court, showing no signs of trauma or upset over her roommate's horrible death, not to mention the drinking and drugging--these things really hurt her case and her reputation. I don't believe she was guilty but I do believe you are right Lisa about the whole fame thing and I hope she tries to stay out of the news from this point on.

I hate when stupid people open their dumbass mouths. Lisa please just kill yourself you are an idiot and the world would be a better place without you. Do the world a favor and google the stupidity of what you just said. Did your dumbass know that 40% of INNOCENT people confess to murder when interrogated. The number goes higher when you are talking about 48 hour interrogation. Also just because your dumbass falls down and cries at every little tragedy doesn't mean everyone does. People emote differently. I know this is impossible for you to understand being a legal retard but maybe google will help you educate yourself.
Chad, I think your profane post has made you look more like the "dumbass," I'm sorry. How about having an intelligent debate and allowing people to express an opinion that might be different than yours, but might--just might--has some valid points to consider--instead of all the junior high insults? And for the record, most normal people would show some sign of shock or trauma at the idea of a brutal murder of a friend, and then being accused for it---not do cartwheels and blow kisses.
Again list this is because you are retarded. I'd have an intelligent debate with you but you'd have to a slight degree of intelligence for that to happen. NOTHING you have said had the slightest evidence that you possess any intelligence. Obviously you nothing about humans and how they interact. I did put forward SEVERAL valid points that make you look like an idiot but because you are a moron. You ignored them and only acknowledged the insults. I honestly feel sorry for someone of your intelligence.
Oh and by the way. Your quote "opinion" is considered libel but because i am guessing you don't know what libel means. Its the written form of slander basically saying something that is not true.
Seriously shut the f up. The only one who needs to grow up and act like an adult is your dumbass. The most pathetic thing a person can do is act like saying a "swear" word is a bad thing. Its people like you that ruin america. Its a f-ing word! it sounds way better then talking "nice" and expresses the opinion that much better. I know this is lost on an idiot like you but good luck living life in a censor bubble.
And if you think words like idiot, moron are expletives then I really just feel sorry for your dumbass because none of the words I used would be censored.
I get it, Chad. You consider me unintelligent because I disagree with you. Actually Chad, slander is defamation, calumny, or a malicious false statement, such as what you have done to me by calling me stupid, moron, unintelligent, idiot, retarded. That is not intelligent conversation. I think I would be able to "hear" you more if you left the insults out. But I truly do think Amanda needs therapy and some quiet healing, and it's not defamation but rather a well-documented fact that drugs mess up a person's mind and judgment. She admitted to taking drugs. So.
BTW--I am a trained counselor so I am not as uninformed about people's psychology as you may like to think. Again, doing cartwheels and blowing kisses is not the normal reaction to a brutal murder and being on trial for your life.
Again you completely lose the point. I consider you unintelligent because you make basely claims about a person that you obviously know nothing about. Calling you a moron, idiot, retard are not false claims. They are true statements based upon your own statements. Stating she is guilty without FACTS is unintelligent. You have done this over and over again. OBviously you are not a trained counselor or you'd know that these are perfectly normal reactions. Its called going numb and acting like everything is fine. Lots of people do it in HIGHLY stressful situations to deal with the stress. DOn't you think a murderer WOULD BE TRYING TO ACT LIKE EVERYONE expects not how they'd normally react. She wasn't on trial at the time she wasn't even a suspect FYI
@Lisa, an intelligent debate usually implies more than simply repeatedly re-pasting the same comment. Unless you have also had someone brutally murdered in your home and then been subjected to intense questioning by the police (oh yeah, in a foreign country....in a language that is not your native language), then I really don't think you are qualified to judge what is "foolish" versus "normal" behavior. I know I have no idea how I would react in that situation -- I just can't imagine.
And she admitted to smoking marijuana, so you are implying what, exactly? That this means she's a murderer? Quite a leap, don't you think? That would mean (by your estimation) that a good chunk of experimenting college students are potential murderers, then. Wow. Doesn't seem very reasonable to me.
I agree that Amanda needs time to herself to heal and (most importantly) time with her family. Which they certainly seem to be doing, and that is nice to see. But she deserves any money she makes from the sale of her story and MORE. And anyone who disagrees, that's fine. But then I just wonder if you'd be singing the same tune after spending four years in an Italian prison for something you didn't do...with your family in incredible debt fighting for your freedom.
@Lisa, a one-size fits all counselor apparently. Hopefully, I never take my inappropriately behaving child to you. I think you might have him committed. Shortly after the news that Amanda was doing cartwheels at the police station her mother made the statement "That's just Amanda." Having a child of my own. My son will behave the way my son behaves whether it's considered appropriate for the occasion or not. No, it might not be normal, but it's a trait that does not indicate that he has or had murder in mind.
You people don't read. Even though I pasted it over and over! I never once said I considered her guilty. Not once. Read again, I said 'Innocent or not' the way she conducted herself in court did not help convince people of her innocence at first and probably caused this thing to drag out longer than it should have. And how "qualified" to you need to be to feel that doing cartwheels in court is inappropriate under the circumstance? The drugs probably contributed to the inappropriate behavior. Geez! Come on guys. Your zeal for her innocence is noble, but it doesn't mean she is without fault in how she conducted herself during the trial.
You say you dont know how you would be if your roommate was killed and you were blamed? I know how I would be--scared to death and shaking. Some people might be angry. But most are not doing cartwheels. And again, if I were her therapist, I would recommend withdrawing from the limelight for awhile and allowing all this to process and get sorted out. Murder, jail,--it's ugly, debilitating stuff. That's not going to happen in the limelight. If you really do care about her, that's what you would want for her, too. There are other ways to earn money and tell your story.
Interesting. Actually, I got the part where you stated you weren't saying she was guilty or innocent; however, for some reason it still came across as though you thought she was because of her behavior? I recognize Chad as having difficulty in expressing himself for his passion, but for some reason your post came across, I think, in a way you didn't intend. Hopefully, her parents who obviously care deeply, also have the sense necessary to help her to recover from her ordeal.
You know, I read my post over and over and for the life of me, I can't figure out how anyone could think that I thought she was necessarily guilty because of how she behaved in court. But if you can temper your zeal for this case, you would have to admit that Amanda's actions at the beginning (cartwheels, kisses, smirks, etc) could easily cause one to doubt or wonder. And that they certainly threw a lot of credence to the suspicions that were being thrown her way. Again, even though innocent, I still maintain that she strengthened the prosecutor's case by behaving badly at the beginning, and as a result made things much tougher on herself.
I hope her parents will have the sense to do what is necessary to help her heal, but too many people sadly are seduced by fame and money and it would be hard to turn down even if it was the best thing for her. But, hopefully they will prove me wrong. And, anyway, in the end it's up to Amanda.
Again, Lisa -- I think you need to read about this case a little more closely. Knox never did cartwheels in a courtroom. Ever. She DID do some stretching (she was into yoga at the time) in the police station after being stuck in a room for an extended length of time for police questioning. And if you read the reports later about what actually happened (not about what was blown out of proportion in the media to portray this girl in as negative of light as possible), she was stretching (in the police station), chatting with the female officers about yoga and various other things. Knox was happy for the distraction, talked about being a gymnast as a child, etc. And one of the officers asked if she could do the splits (she complied) as well as cartwheels (she complied). I would instead ask the appropriateness of an officer asking a young girl to do gymnastics in a place of business.
Yet another example of the media telling only half of the story to get people to believe what they want you to believe (instead of the actual facts of what happened). Remember all of the salacious headlines (and photos) about "Foxy Knoxy" buying lingerie a mere days after her roommate's brutal murder? Yeah, what they conveniently left out was (1) the store she was in was one similar to a Target or Wal-Mart; and (2) she had been locked out of her house for a week at that point and had no clothes....so she sort of needed underwear.
And sorry -- you have no idea how you would react until you're in the situation. Don't judge, that's all I'm saying. People are unique and react differently. No one is an authority on what is a "proper" way to act. Especially when it involves something as traumatic as a brutal murder.
And smoking marijuana....leading to inappropriate behavior in the police station several days later? Really??? Wow.
I just read some post that indicated our government should have gotten involved like they did in Iran. you hve to remember the Obama administration does not like success it thrives on failure and ill doings. the three moron's in Iran most likely were involved in something just no that kosher. Amanda was an innocent young lady framed by a foreign government that hates Americans. Not a chance of getting help from the US. I hope that she can sell Movie, TV and book rights to satisfy the date and help grandma with her retirement. It is good to see a family stick together and fight for what is right. this does not fit Obama family values either. It shows that people don't need the government to be successful.
The fact is there's still a murder that took place and life lost. I'm not sure this young lady is innocent either. I didn't follow the case but it was greatly sensationalized. If she was black this would not have been near the story it has become.
For some reason, we in America have a real tough time dealing with white women who kill and in a brutal manner. It's just so hard to accept in the minds of many. Had this been a guy, I think he would have been convicted.
I think Rob is on to something. I was pondering this today. Replace Amanda's "pretty" face with middle-aged hag, all other things being the same, do you really think the media would be all over it? Do you think there would be so much sympathy? My guess it would be biased the other way. If you're really honest about it.
did you read the case at all. the murderer was found. His name is Rudy Guede. His DNA was found on VICTIM. IN THE VICTIM. he also left BLOODY handprints everywhere. Now 0 Dna or fingerprints of Amandas were found and yet your dumbass thinks she was involved? Explain please? I bet you can't
Did you read the recent spate of articles? There is and has been the deep suspicion that there was more than one person involved in this. Rob's point is that if it wasn't a pretty white girl up there in court, none of us would know anything about this case or even care about it, because the media would not consider it something that would sell.
The prosecute ASSUMED there was more then one person involved because of how the body was found but doesn't know for sure. The facts are there was blood everywhere if someone else was there then they would have left a bloody print somewhere in the room. The facts are there wasn't any. Only idiot racists think this has anything to do with RACE. Nothing about this case is about race.
I believe my example was that of a middle aged ugly person, not a person of color. The idea is that anything but a pretty white college girl on trial (except maybe a celebrity) would not attract the media's attention, it would not be on TV and we would know nothing about it--or care. Sadly.
Obviously again you making baseless claims again. Do you know about this happening? how many stories have you heard about this happening to people and not getting in the news? I mean obviously common sense dictates that people don't care as much about ugly people but they still care.
If this had happened in the United States, the black guys would have been found guilty .... I find it very interesting that first a black guy was implicated and proven to be not guilty and then the blame fell on YET ANOTHER black guy. Now he may be guilty and he may be innocent but it sure seems like the USA pattern of commit a crime and then blame it on some random black guy, it works everytime here in the USA and apparently Italy to ....
Stop with this stupid race card stuff. The reason a black guy was arrested and convicted was because he did it. He admitted to being in the house at the time of the murder. His DNA was all over the crime scene including on and in the victim. His bloody foot print was found at the crime scene. He even left a dump in the toilet before he fled the country.
It's not "he may be guilty and he may be innocent". He was guilty, period.
I don't know if Amanda Knox is innocent or guilty since I haven't read enough to make that decision for myself. However, from reading some of the posts here, one thing seems apparent: A lot of you are quick to blame Italy's legal system for its incompetence in handing out that which you consider an equitable form of justice.
What makes their legal system any less competent then ours? We've committed innocent people to prison! We've no doubt even executed innocent people in the name of due process. I'm not criticizing our judicial system; I am just saying that we too have our faults. So who are we to so quickly blame the Italian legal system as inadequate and judge them to be less subjective then our own?
Let me play Devil's advocate here and ask this: What if Amanda Knox was tired and convicted of murder in an American court of law. Would there be this same outpouring of sentiment and conviction of injustice that we are now witness to? Or, would the commentary be turned toward a more favorable opinion of locking her away for life? If not, then consider this: O.J. Simpson (in a lot of minds) got away with double homicide, and what was the reaction to that? I am sure in Italy (and the rest of the world) we were viewed as judicially inadequate (my own personal opinion of course but none the less, it proves my point - yes!)
I'm just saying people... Think before you judge. The opinions seem boils down to the mere fact that an American was prosecuted in a foreign court of law which none of us can rightfully say we understand. So does that make the verdict any less correct?
At least in my post, I've opened up the provocotive and redical idea of OPINIONATION, and not rationalization. If the hang 'em up diatribe you spew forth that says we should "Sue the damn Italian Police and the Prosecutor..." is your idea of due justice; then maybe YOU should re-ready your earlier post and ask if that wasn't a one sided opinion that only made sense to the poster.
All I am saying is look at this with OPEN eyes. None of us know what happened, especially you BILL.
It bug the S#!t of me when someone is so closed minded.
Sorry I have relatives in Italy and have visited them. The legal system is not at all like ours. Women are stereotyped in a different way. I think you are forgetting this is a country where even if you bust your husband cheating and have proof if you go to divorce court and says he does not want a divorce, As a woman you have no rights, you are stuck and have to stay married to the man. I have a relative in Italy who has been trying to divorce her cheating husband for 15 years. He will not allow her to divorce him.
Also I know a woman who married as US military person, was in the America for 25 years but had not become a citizen. The husband divorced her by american law.
She held an italian passport and wanted to go back home after the divorce for a visit, no children involved all the children are over 21
The Italian Council in America told the woman she was not allowed to travel without permission from her husband. Because she still held an Italian citizenship, her divorce is not legal in Italy...Her ex husband already married another woman in America...So no Italian laws are not the same as American Laws..
If all the details of the case were the same, except that it was in the US I'd be twice as outraged because of the apparent apathy to all the corruption among the police investigators and prosecutors.
If I said I thought they did a shoddy job that would be a massive understatement. The stuff that went on here is the kind of thing i'd expect to hear about in a totalitarian state.
I also am not entirely sure of her innocence. However I think it will be truly disgusting if/when she profits from Meredith Kirchers death. And based on articles like this the press is already ramping her up, there is something SERIOUSLY wrong in THIS country when people can profit from the murder of an innocent .........
I couldn't agree with you more, Dr.Who. There are people all over the world who have to spend tons of money defending themselves in court. Shall we have them all write a book and give them a TV show? The book dealers and media are only interested in the profit they can make on her and the poor murdered girl. And we all buy into it. Sick.
hey moron. she is not profiting from someones death. She is profiting from her OWN tragedy when she was set up for a murder she did not commit by a prosecutor WHO HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY OF DOING THIS MULTIPLE TIMES!!
Lots of people throughout history have been falsely accused of a crime and then found innocent in court. It's a common occurrence in every justice system. The prosecutors may or may not do a good job, but it is their job to make a case against the person they are prosecuting. The system worked. Now let the girl go home and get her life back together in a tasteful way, out of respect for the family of Meredith Kercher--privately.
Again obviously lisa you know nothing about this case and the whole world would appreciate if you just shut up. This prosecutor released fake evidence hoping a moron like you would be on the jury and would see it in the papers. See in italy the jurors aren't sequestered meaning they can talk with whoever and see the news. The prosecutor knows this and releases media reports and fake evidence to make her appear guilty. This is called abuse of power and basically the biggest evil a prosecutor can commit. he is currently sentenced to 16 months in jail for doing this. He should have gotten 20 years because thats how many years he has stolen from people doing this. now while he was on trial for doing this! he was trying a case. Never in the US would this be allowed to happen.
How can anyone possibly say that the "system worked" when two innocent people spent four years of their lives in prison?? And their families are up to their eyeballs in debt? And no -- it is NOT the job of a prosecutor to "make a case against the person they are prosecuting". Not at all. I thought it was the job of the prosecutor to uncover the TRUTH and ensure that the GUILTY party is punished. I think that is the core of the problem - many times the prosecutor gets too wrapped up in proving "his case" and he forgets about looking at the case objectively (remember Nifong and the Duke Lacrosse case?). I'm not saying that all prosecutors are evil, but people are kidding themselves if they think this doesn't happen. And, per Chad's earlier point, this particular prosecutor was brought up on prosecutorial misconduct charges on the case that he tried immediately prior to this one. So he's got something to prove on this one. They were never able to establish a motive for Knox and her boyfriend killing Kercher....but there's certainly a motive for the prosecutor to "win" this case.
And the murder is a horrible tragedy that should not be overlooked. The Kercher family is still hurting and is still looking for answers, bc they have been told all along that multiple people were responsible for their daughter's death. And it is still unclear if that is the case or not.
MJM, I think it is you who have missed my point. Which is, that right or wrong it happens constantly, this business of being falsely accused--Amanda is not a special case. So why does she get a book and a movie out of it? Are the Duke boys getting a book or a movie?
How sad when someone who seems to have SOME intelligence cannot understand the facts of life and the workings of supply and demand on the decisions of publishers and producers. It's as if you think she automatically "gets a book and a movie out of it". Two factors determine what she will "get out of it", and fortunately for everyone else, neither of those factors is what Lisa-256867 thinks!! MARKET & PERSONAL CHOICE (AMANDA'S, NOT YOURS!) are the two factors.
Lisa, you aren't helping yourself here. With all due respect, as a counselor, you should fully know that not all people react the same to a situation. Furthermore, I suggest you review what you learned about how a person reacts when deprived of sleep, food and toilet facilities for an extended amount of time. A person under such stress is not in complete control of their reactions. And she was denied sleep for 55 hours.
It depends completely on the person. There have been people throughout history that were subjected to the most horrid torture imaginable for days, weeks and months on end who absolutely refused to confess to something they had nothing to do with out of principle alone and accepted that fate would see justice done. The spanish inquisition produced many such people,as well Italian fascism and The Nazi party to name just a few...and it goes on and on. This girl was terrified, confused and lacked the fortitude of mind and spirit to stand by her convictions and faltered...that certainly doesn't mean she is guilty and i doubt she is.
Its a toss of a coin as to what reaction you are going to get out of somebody under unrelenting duress and it certainly isn't condusive to getting to the truth.
Lisa, I think you're missing a lot of points. And honestly, I wish EVERYONE who was falsely accused could get book and movie deals to help pay for their legal fees....bc just think for a second -- you are seriously saying that someone who is falsely accused, spends their life savings (and more) defending themselves, have had their reputations ruined (just looking at this forum should be enough to see that this girl is going to have trouble getting a job bc plenty of people still think she's guilty....of SOMETHING)....you're saying that these people shouldn't be able to TRY to recoup SOME of that? The reputation is ruined, there's no recovering that. But financially....if there is some way to recoup some of that, then have at it. And it's really unfortunate that more cases of the falsely accused aren't publicized to this extent to allow that to happen. There's no recourse against prosecutors thanks to prosecutorial immunity. Police are allowed to do all kinds of semi-shady things to try to get answers. And slander cases are notoriously difficult to prove and win. So your point seems to be that NO ONE who is falsely accused should be allowed to try to recoup any of their losses? Please just think for a minute about that -- so if you were falsely accused (and don't even say it won't or can't happen bc completely innocent people have been surprised and railroaded into horrible charges) and trashed in the media....and rendered penniless defending yourself -- you'd be ok with having no means to re-build your life?
And if you haven't seen books on the Duke Lacrosse case, you haven't been looking very hard.
I don't think she would profit from Meredith Kercher's death. She will profit from the disaster they call the Italian legal system. If the Italian traffic cops didn't arrive at her house be for the Carbinari (the real police) the case would have been handled in a completely different fashion. I doubt she would have ever been indicted.
My opinion is that Amanda and her friend were victims of overly aggressive police tactics and an overly zealous prosecutor. Any contradictions in her story are a result of intense and grueling pressure from the police to say what they wanted to hear.
I would hope that, if she profits from telling her story, that once her immediate family debt is paid she would think of sharing any additional profit with the Kercher family. They too have been through hell and probably have large expenses to cover.
It makes me angry that this young woman has even been described by Dr. Drew as "naive," and that "she just got involved with people she shouldn't have been involved with." Dr. Drew is no more God than many other successful professionals, and he is capable of error. I'm sorry, but most people DO NOT go live in a very "posh-to-travel-in" nation, ever, let alone when they are only 20 years old. This whole thing smells, I just think Italy didn't have the stomach to keep Knox any longer. It would have meant much revenue lost for Italy, to keep a person like Knox. I definitely think she and her boyfriend were involved with serious crime that night several years ago. Today's college students are doing some strange things. My own kids are in their 20's and they are lots less naive than I am, and I am in my 50's. I am wiser in generalthan they are, but I do not have the worldly knowledge they have, and I think this Knox girl is most definitely no angel, and NOT naive. I think her parents and family are the naive ones. I know the feeling, because I have an adult child in jail right now who did things I have had a terrible time facing. I now know that people can do things that do not match what their closest kin know about them.
I feel sorry for the black man who will serve much hard time, that I think this spoiled young woman should be serving. I think she richly deserved to be in jail over there, for falsely accusing someone, and I think he should have been awarded much more by her, for her despicable accusation, to deflect attention from herself. She speaks Italian pretty well, she is NOT an "angel face," and I think the Kercher family has been done a terrible disservice. I see this young lady as self-indulgent, self-centered, and deserving of more punishment. But the truth will eventually come out. This young lady is NOT an innocent, poor little thing. I think she is in reality at least a few of the things the Italian prosecution called her, and I think she is capable of something heinous again in the future.
Bonnie, I think you are right that young people today are doing some incredibly unbelievable things---many things which people in our generation, loose as it was, could never even conceive of. Not to mention that drugs are almost always at the root of all kinds of crimes. People lose their marbles when they do drugs. I don't know if Amanda did the things they said she did, but it is not at all inconceivable to me that someone like her could have. During her first few days in court, she was remarkably nonchalant, sassy and seemingly unaffected about the brutal death of a roommate, especially after being accused herself of the murder. Something was not right there.
Bonnie I think you are a sad moron who knows nothing of the facts yet opens her dumb mouth. That "poor black guy" was found leaving the country because he knew he committed the murder. HIS DNA was IN THE VICTIM, ON the victim, along with bloody hand prints everywhere! Shoe prints in blood! please explain your idiotcy
Wow, Bonnie -- feel sorry for the black man who (1) admitted to being in the house that night; and (2) whose DNA was found in the room and ON the victim? Um, why?
And plenty of students these days do a year or a semester abroad, so I suggest you re-think the above. Even back when I was in college (which was more years ago than I care to say) it was not at all uncommon. And I do interviews of graduating seniors for my company, and it's extremely rare these days for a student to NOT have some sort of international experience. It makes them more marketable and, honestly, it's something they really should have, particularly in a competitive job market. It's not something that's "posh" or unusual. More often than not, it's included as part of regular tuition. In fact, in my case, it was actually *cheaper*....as I had to transfer to another university to do a study abroad program, which was a public school, and my regular school was private. So it was actually a nice little cost savings for a semester.
I think Bonnie and Lisa need to get out more. And to read a little more before speaking.
MJM--explain why you think I need to get out more. Did you read my post? I said nothing about travelling, but I did comment on how I agreed that many parents are in denial about the kinds of things young people are or could be doing when they are out and about! Which, by the way, you did not comment on.
FYI--I have lived in or travelled to Thailand, India, England, France, Romania, Switzerland both as a young person and as an adult, and lived in 5 different states, so I'm not exactly sitting at home in a cave.
Because you are ignorant and lack common sense in very basic subject matter. Such as in your interpretation of "getting out more". I would certainly not perceive you as a "worldly" person, let alone as an adult, based solely on your many posts here. You sound like an intelligent, but naive, teenager at most. And if you are in fact an adult, you really, really do need to get out more.
Bonnie and Lisa... Amanda was in Italy as part of her studies as a student at the University of Washington. It wasn't some spoiled rich girl lark.
Again, Lisa, read about what 55 hours without sleep can do to someone. And what 55 hours without sleep under intense scrutiny and being barraged with questions in a language you can't understand can do to you.
It's almost fascinating as to how many people have said that they think Knox and her boyfriend are guilty, and yet, they never say why they believe that, while others come up with nothing more than the fact she falsely accused the bartender.....after 55 hrs of extremely abusive interrogation.
Do some people actually think that their impressions and gut feelings are more valid than facts and reasoning?
Lisa, if you read my post (and I said "get out more" and READ a little more before speaking), I was addressing both your posts as well as Bonnie's, who had referenced travelling to foreign countries as something unusual or posh. Once again, you prove my original point of needing to read a little more carefully.
That's great that you have travelled. Good for you.
And I comment on the actual facts and evidence of this case. Something that you seem to know very little about (or just ignore, I'm not sure which).
Bonnie 131.... Clearly, you're not a worldly person. It's normal to travel to other countries to further one's education. To travel, meet people, vacation - hey, where do you vacation Bonnie-Olos? Ever met a foreign person? Ohhh, must be Halloween-scary for you!!! Amanda had an excellent opportunity to further her education in a foreign country and that country crushed her hopes and dreams with their legal system. How would you like to be put in foreign prison for something you didn't do at the age of 19 ? Hm? Bonnie-Olos? Anderson Coopers Ridiculist is where you at with that one.
Larry Flynt would pay her a bundle for some nekkid pitchers!
Geez, that says a lot about your IQ.
The real sad part is how you idiot racists think that race or her looks had anything to do with this case.
Hey Chad...were you born an obnoxious @!$%# or did you just pick that up somewhere along the way?
Hey darth, I am sorry that people talking @!$%# without proof pisses me. I feel sorry that you dont have a soul and wish to defend the innocent. but as for obnoxious your douchebag comment was more obnoxious then anything i have said.
Thank you Chad...I do my best.
"@Chad if you had half the brain I did you might understand"
Is that you Charlie Sheen?
Again here go the trolls and morons spouting off non-sense.
Cursing? Bullying? Good thing Chad was never called as a defense witness. Nothing he says suggests he can read anyone's character.
Chad-2204699 banned. Out of chances.
Hell she won't need a job, a book and movie deal will set her up fine.
I think, to her at this point, it will be about getting her family out of debt first, not about how much money she can make off this. But at the very present moment, I'm sure she's just glad to be able to eat what she wants when she wants, sleep in her own bed and maybe even just go shopping when she wants.
Heard they have a kitchen knife sale over at Target.
nibor - It is good to keep up the humor man. Also read your "If I do it again" comment. Instinct was to laugh. That's cruel though.
Cute, nibor... The murder weapon was never found. That kitchen knife wasn't it.
No, actually, if that's what she want to do, she'll support them.
I hope she makes a ton of money off her story. I'd spend the money on her movie or book. I wouldn't give a dime to Casey Anthony.
I'm glad she was set free. I believe she is innocent. She deserves to be a millionaire many times over for the hell she was put through.
Hey Chad...did your parents have any kids that actually lived?
wow the only thing more pathetic then the idiots who spout off stupid @!$%# is the moron that defends them.
Need I say more?
Oh yeah I'm cryin' myself a river, whatever.....
I am afraid I cannot have sympathy here as they will do fine with all the media scrambling for interviews, the talk shows, book deals, etc. I do agree with some that Amanda and her ex-boyfriend know more than they are saying.
Perhaps they used to hang out with Guede until a few days before the murder. Doesn't mean they aren't innocent though.
Just this morning all the highly rated comments were about how "justice" is only for rich people...Guess not.
She will be able to fix her families financial problems after he first book deal.
Sue the damn Italian Police and the Prosecutor that wanted to become another star at someone elses expense.
4 days of investigation and you are guilty, pretty sad justice system.
Aww my heart bleeds
I wont pay a dime for her book or movie.
Why would you when you're too dumb to read it.
Pay per view! Casey "Tot Mom" Anthony vs Amanda "She Devil" Knox -
Jello wrestling!
If they were smart they would declare bankruptcy. It is sickening that a false accusation and bogus charges can ruin a family in an effort to defend against them. Proof that the court systems everywhere hold us all hostage. I truly hope Amanda writes a book and makes a million-plus. She has earned it.
Oh, so it is perfectly okay for Amanda to falsely accuse her boss so he faces bogus charges!!!
Cbru, no it is not OK, but you need to understand the context in which she made the accusation. Her interrogators basically lead her into that conclusion. It wasn't something she just blurted out.
I couldn't disagree more.
Being further exploited and in the spotlight can only ruin her character more and lead to possibly more drinking and drugs in an effort to drown the past. Our society is so stupid and exploitive.
I don't believe she was guilty but I do believe you are right Lisa about the whole fame thing and I hope she tries to stay out of the news from this point on.
I hate when comments get posted twice....
How about three times?

I hate when stupid people open their dumbass mouths. Lisa please just kill yourself you are an idiot and the world would be a better place without you. Do the world a favor and google the stupidity of what you just said. Did your dumbass know that 40% of INNOCENT people confess to murder when interrogated. The number goes higher when you are talking about 48 hour interrogation. Also just because your dumbass falls down and cries at every little tragedy doesn't mean everyone does. People emote differently. I know this is impossible for you to understand being a legal retard but maybe google will help you educate yourself.
I agree Chad
Once again Chad... express yourself without using expletives. Grow up.
But then I just wonder if you'd be singing the same tune after spending four years in an Italian prison for something you didn't do...with your family in incredible debt fighting for your freedom.
yay!!!! to the voice of reason ^^^^^^
It shows that people don't need the government to be successful.
wacko what you said makes no sense but thats usual for your rants keep up the good ? work.
In Iran it is certainly not Kosher. Halal, yes... but certainly not Kosher.
Who really knows??
The fact is there's still a murder that took place and life lost. I'm not sure this young lady is innocent either. I didn't follow the case but it was greatly sensationalized. If she was black this would not have been near the story it has become.
For some reason, we in America have a real tough time dealing with white women who kill and in a brutal manner. It's just so hard to accept in the minds of many. Had this been a guy, I think he would have been convicted.
What?
Yep,
Thanks Lisa. An older lady, not very good looking, whatever you chose.
If this had happened in the United States, she would have probably note even have been arrested.
You dishonor to the name DrWho-2096937.
It's not racist if the evidence is actually there that proves he was the killer and the rapist.
Food for thought here...
So does that make the verdict any less correct?
cincode
4 days of investigation does not make a case. Be it in America or Italy. There is no real opinion of "bad foreign" justice, just bad justice.
And which verdict are you talking about? The first one or the second one?
It really does help if a post here makes some sort of sense other than to the poster.
Well, Bill from Oregon...
Italy treats women like possessions
If all the details of the case were the same, except that it was in the US I'd be twice as outraged because of the apparent apathy to all the corruption among the police investigators and prosecutors.
If I said I thought they did a shoddy job that would be a massive understatement. The stuff that went on here is the kind of thing i'd expect to hear about in a totalitarian state.
OPINIONATION???? Is that the mythical land where everyone cares about what everyone else has to say?
Tough one.
I wonder what Billy Hayes thinks about all of this?
Wiser? Really? It's kind of scary to consider how unwise you must have been before now.
