Did you even read what you cut and pasted? She is a US citizen, not an illegal with two anchor babies. Multiple births can come with complications and US hospitals are better equipped to deal with them. That is probably why she chose to deliver here.

What you lose sight of is the fact that this woman is an American citizen. While I seriously question her choice in men, there is no indication that this woman has done anything illegal and there are no charges pending against her. The fact that an expat American chose to come back to the states for medical care does not really bother me. I am assuming that with her husbands money, the hospital bills were paid in full by her or her insurance. As despicable as her husband is, there is nothing to indicate that she has done anything illegal.

I am more concerned by the fact that a respected magazine like Forbes legitimizes criminals like Guzman by including them on it's list of most powerful people. To legitimize them and feed their egos in this way only serves to encourage their ruthless behavior. Forbes should be ashamed of themselves for their actions. I agree with you completely except one thing. I don't have a problem with the hospital treating her. She is an American citizen and since her children are born here they should be as well. I don't like it in this particular case, but I'm not willing to alter that law as a knee jerk reaction. Everything else though I could not agree more.

The one thing though that I have a HUGE problem with is this.

I've believed the Constitution was meant to be an everchanging governance. Ammendments provide for this. You are right; those babies are not anchor babies. They are U.S. citizens and their Mother is a U.S. citizen. Even if the babies were born in Mexico, the Mother, being a U.S. citizen can take their birth certificates to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico within 30 days of their birth and get American citizenship for them.

Laughable assertion. Of course you can deport someone just because they are not considered desirable. The status is called persona non grata, and guess what sport. Being a citizen does not protect said person from such an action.

Persona non grata status, as you're using it, applies only to diplomats from foreign countries. This woman is a US citizen and NOT a diplomat, so it doesn't apply.

Maybe she didn't commit any crimes but there is such a thing as being an accomplice. You can't tell me that with all the media,(newspapers, television and internet) she doesn't know what her husband does for a living. Also, her husband doesn't just sell drugs, he has people murdered. That alone is reason enough to detain her and question her on his whereabouts.

Knowing what your husband does for a living doesn't make you an accomplice. And I'm pretty sure the husband's whereabouts are well known, but there is no real authority in Mexico that's strong enough or even willing to take him down.

Under US tax laws, if one spouse is not reporting income, the other will be held responsible unless it can be proven they knew nothing about the activities of the other, so knowing about the profession will make you an accomplice to income tax evasion.

Which also got me to thinking, (of course, the US authorities have probably already though about and investigated that.) All US citizens have to file a tax return if they meet the filing requirements. Of course, if she has no income of her own, she can claim Married Filing Seperate, and would most likely not have been required to file.

That'd be great if her husband was a US citizen paying US taxes. But he's not.

MadTown, you too shouldn't try to practice law. If two spouses file seperately, they cannot be held responsible for the other person's tax return. If they file jointly and they both sign there names (required for filing jointly), they are both responsible for he veracity of the information submitted. *sigh* Really, you sign your name to a document you are responsible for what's in it..... Even if you don't have the income, you signed it.

differnet - I am very well aware of the subject I am talking about. In the first paragraph, I was talking about joint returns in which both spouses signed the return. I should have been more specific.

differnet: She's only obligated to file if she generated any type of income on her own. Being a housewife she is not require to file income because she's not making any. Now, idiotic as it may sound, Uncle Sam does not really care where you get your money as long as you give them their fair share. That drug lord can file income tax and put 'drug dealer' on the filing, and the IRS won't do anything about it. Of course they will relay the information to the pertinent authorities, but the IRS has only power to go after you if you failed to file your taxes or you evade them. They won't prosecute you for 'paying' them. (of course people is not going to be dumb enough to put in their declaration 'drug dealer' as a profession)

They're also citizens because their mother is a citizen. Or, perhaps parents shouldn't be allowed to pass on their citizenship, either?

You should read the article again man. It says the lady IS an American citizen who gave birth to twin girls in the U.S. I'm pretty sure they are legal because if they aren't then that means we should all hand in our American citizen status since being born in this country by at least one American parent don't make us Citizens *sarcasm*

Honestly, people, whether we like her husband or not, the woman has US citizenship. Therefore, she is perfectly entitled to return to this country to deliver her twins. End of story. If you want to froth at the mouth over it, by all means, enjoy yourselves, and keep a towel handy for cleaning up afterward. Frankly, I think we have real, actual, and much bigger problems to worry about.

The babies were both girls, so chances are they'll be raised to be privileged, spoiled brats, not "drug lords." If they were boys, different story, although it wouldn't change their citizenship status.

I live in a border state, first of all. My stepfather is also a tri-county task force officer who is involved in drug trafficking case loads, that's all he does. I cannot tell you how many children here wind up temporarily in children's homes or automatically deported because of the fact that their parents were using them, their own children, for the drug trafficking. I'm HOPING that doesn't happen to these children. I have been there to help sit with some of these kids who are IN TEARS and confused because they knew their parents were doing wrong and are either too little to understand the consequences or just old enough to know but didn't want or couldn't find the courage to fight back. Most of them are innocent of their parents' actions and don't deserve to be generalized in the sentence of "chop them up into little pieces the same way the Mexican drug lords do to innocent children in Mexico". I don't condone illegals coming into the US at all just as a lot of people don't. Yes, send them back, but even suggesting we do something like that is animalistic and absurd and disgusting. Be bigger than they are.

The government could just enforce our current immigration laws, punish businesses and individuals who hire undocumented workers, and bring our troops home to guard OUR borders, instead of everyone else's. They wouldn't even need to build a fence.

Of course, we'd have to pay for that with our taxes, which the Tea Party will never stand for, and given the fact that the GOP actually love illegal immigrants (cheap labor), and the Democrats see every illegal immigrant as another potential vote, neither party is going to make any real effort at reform.
