I get real tired of "Protest Areas" and "Free Speech Zones". Any public roadway is a protest area and a free speech zone. Sure, it's an inconvenience for others but I'd rather live in a country where people could protest peacefully anywhere instead of a police state.
What happens when you're trying to get to work, or visit friends/family, and you can't go anywhere because the road is blocked? Or worse, there's a medical or fire emergency and personnel are unable to get through?
Or, what if the SEIU'S Lerner's "peaceful protest" to take down J. P. Morgan Chase, Wall Street, and Capitalism was NOT SO PEACEFUL ?
On September 17, we want to see 20,000 people flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months.
…there is a very real danger that if we naively put our cards on the table and rally around the "overthrow of capitalism" or some equally outworn utopian slogan, then our Tahrir moment will quickly fizzle into another inconsequential ultra-lefty spectacle soon forgotten. But if we have the cunning to come up with a deceptively simple Trojan Horse demand …
Much smaller countries have million man protests and in this country we manage to get a 1000 to protest? Our corrupt officials are not scared of a 1000 man protest, we need millions out there.
"It's a worthy cause because people on Wall Street are blood-sucking warmongers," Bill Steyerd, 68, a Vietnam veteran from Queens, told the New York Daily News. "I'm here, and in spite of these dinky barricades, we're going to shut down Wall Street with people power."
The people are tired of being slaves to the rich and making nothing just barely to live on; Wall Street and Big Government, time to tear them all down and start anew.
After six policemen from the City of Fullerton, CA beat to death a mentally disturbed man, Kelly Thomas, to death, several dozen people staged protest around City Hall and Police Station. Citizens are outraged not only of the unlawful homicide but of the police department's attempt to conceal evidence and the filing of flagrant misleading police report that contradict several video of the incident.
For several months the family of Kelly Thomas and demonstrators carried picket signs that asked anyone who support the prosecution of the six policemen to honk their car horn. Apparently, the Fullerton City police force had heard one horn too many and began issuing traffic tickets alleging these drivers had disturbed the peace. Passing cars no longer honk their horns. The intimidation worked.
In the City of Fullerston, the powerful City Police has turn the Fullerton into a garrison town where First Amendment rights are secondary considerations to the primary interest of the omnipotent Police Force. To the Fullerton police, the killing of an innocent man must be covered-up or white-washed to protect the image of the department. The Fullerton Police must survive at any cost even if the those whom they sworn to protect and serve do not. As to First Amendment rights, anyone who support those who soil the reputation of the police must be silenced and punished.
Thugs could learn a few tactics from the Fullerton police force.
Participants tweeted pictures of a free food station loaded with jars of peanut butter to help sustain protesters.
i hope it was super extra crunchy too, lol. you can blame wallstreet... personally it isny just wallstreet... wallstreet is small potatoes compaired to what the government has raped the American people for. but then... try telling the crazy parrots that once, lol.
Ido, it is anything but treason, it is our civic duty.
When the government should become tyrannical, and oppressive, rebuking the representation of the people, it is the duty, of the people, to overthrow that government.
Treason is merely defined as giving aid and/ or comfort to the enemies of the United States.
I wish these people luck! Its about time someone stands up to the banksters. It looks like the people are finally "fed" up. If enough people show up to really make a difference the government will fight the people and side with the banks. If enough people show up to really make an impact on Wall Street Monday morning, the government will label their peaceful protest an act of terrorism or a national security issue. This could get real ugly real fast. Riots could break out. The government knew things could come to this eventually. The military has been training specifically to deal with social unrest on American soil because of the economy. Power to the people! Good luck and keep it peaceful.
"When the United States of America, which was meant to be a Utopia for all, was less than a century old, Noah Rosewater and a few men like him demonstrated the folly of the Founding Fathers in one respect: those sadly recent ancestors had not made it the law of the Utopia that the wealth of each citizen should be limited. This oversight was engendered by a weak-kneed sympathy for those who loved expensive things, and by the feeling that the continent was so vast and valuable, and the population so thin and enterprising, that no thief, no matter how fast he stole, could more than mildly inconvenience anyone.
Noah and few like him perceived that the continent was in fact finite, and that venal office-holders, legislators in particular, could be persuaded to toss up great hunks of it for grabs, and to toss them in such a way as to have them land where Noah and his kind were standing.
Thus did a handful of rapacious citizens come to control all that was worth controlling in America. Thus was the savage and stupid and entirely inappropriate and unnecessary and humorless American class system created. Honest, industrious, peaceful citizens were classed as bloodsuckers, if they asked to be paid a living wage. And they saw that praise was reserved henceforth for those who devised means of getting paid enormously for committing crimes against which no laws had been passed. Thus the American dream turned belly up, turned green, bobbed to the scummy surface of cupidity unlimited, filled with gas, went bang in the noonday sun."
macgruber-3736506....."When the government should become tyrannical, and oppressive, rebuking the representation of the people, it is the duty, of the people, to overthrow that government."
U.S. Constitution, Title 18, Part 1, Chapter 115:
Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government; or
Whoever, with intent to cause the overthrow or destruction of any such government, prints, publishes, edits, issues, circulates, sells, distributes, or publicly displays any written or printed matter advocating, advising, or teaching the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force or violence, or attempts to do so; or
Whoever organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or violence; or becomes or is a member of, or affiliates with, any such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes thereof—
Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction.
Yep, let's see what Mr. Lerner and his group does during this "peaceful demonstration" to "overthrow capitalism" and what this Administration and the DOJ's responses are.
Further, the DOJ might want to do an investigation on the California scholar.
Unhappy Americans need not seek the violent overthrow of the US America government. There's a better way: the ballot and formation of another political party.
Is the demonstration in WallSt the beginning of "American Spring?"
Why is it that you never hear of a successful, rich, business owner that protests for the little guy? Why do people that have succeeded in going to college, getting a good job, working hard never protest for the little guy? That's right, because they worked hard and did not expect someone to give them what they have worked hard in creating. Socialist are a bunch of losers that can't succeed themselves, so they figure that those that have should give it to them.
Treason is merely defined as giving aid and/ or comfort to the enemies of the United States
I would think, thereby, that our own government is guilty of treason. Surely building a plutocracy, concentrating wealth, gathering money from special interests, and bankrupting our government while failing to provide for the common good of our own citizens would be treason. Have you forgotten a more well known quotation: "Of the people, by the people, for the people?"
I lost all respect for these protesters when I read the bottom of the sign that says "socialist party usa." His sign bitches about his student loans and how he can't pay them back. Well duh, did you think a liberal arts degree will get you anything better than a job were you ask if "you want fries with that."
I LAUGH!!!! everytime I read a thread from all you USA Loving morons that America is a FREE COUNTRY and they HATE THE USA FOR IT'S FREEDOM. The United States of America is YESTERDAY'S NEW. FREEDOM no longer exist, you are not citizens of a country, you are SLAVES of CORPORATE AMERICA. The RICH will win this war, and the slaves will be just that SLAVES.
The real winners in all this are the 3000 plus US Teachers that have moved or are moving to the Middle East and other countries to teach (reported the other night by Brain Williams). They are moving to a country that appreicate the TEACHER. They told Nightly News they will get better wages, a house, better beneifits, better working conditions, then they ever had in the USA.
Yep, let's see what Mr. Lerner and his group does during this "peaceful demonstration" to "overthrow capitalism" and what this Administration and the DOJ's responses are.

The error: overthrowing capitalism is NOT overthrowing the government.
There is zero in the US constitution indicating that capitalism is to be the only possible economic structure.
Capitalism and Democracy (or a Representative Republic, if you prefer) are two different things, the first is an economic form, the latter political.
Hence overthrowing the current plutocratic economic regime is in no way politically treasonous.
Yes the teachers that have put America as one of the dumbest nations 14th of 34 oecd reading, 17th science, 25th math. Yeah for the teacher of the year. This is something that should absolutely be embarrassing to everyone living in the US.
With people losing their homes and Republicans trying their best to destroy the unions ... if you didn't see this coming ... your brain dead!!!
Never have belonged to a union I have never needed one to get a job or negotiate my pay.
That is why when by brother is not even done with College he is getting teaching offers.
Its not only time to start protesting Wall Street, but every city and town in this country need to start protesting the Republican & Teaparty for NOT raising taxes on the wealthest(the so called job makers, BS) they enjoyed 10yrs of Bush tax cuts, all the loop holes. The middle class is drained and we can't afford to give anymore.
The American people are fed up and the wealthest need to pay their fair share, and NOW!
When you have nothing you have nothing to lose....
It's about time something like this happened. I hope it's just a beginning. I was around in the 60's and early 70's and I had just about given up hope with this generation.
Although my feet may not be there on the ground my heart and soul are behind each and everyone one of you protesting! Power to the people!
GIVE THE WEALTHY RIGHT-WING CORPORATE SUITS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. WE KNOW WHERE THEY WORK AND IT WON'T TAKE MUCH TO FIND OUT WHERE THEY LIVE, EITHER.
After all, what are free speech zones for, anyway?
So is this that beginning of conspicuously open class warfare in 21st century America?
...You betcha!
This is what Warren Buffett and other analysts said would happen if the wealthy didn't start paying their fair share!
Finally, The Wall Street Spring has come. But "a protest area?" WTF?!! What happened to America the Mother of Freedom? I hope the US government apply the highest freedom standards when dealing with this situation. Not the standards the Arabs were asked to follow, the highest ones which, supposedly, resemble the "American values".
I hope America stops policing the world and get busy working on its internal problems instead of waging wars for oil and fun or whatever reasons they have in mind when they decide to go to war with defenseless, oil-rich countries in the name of freedom and fighting weapon of mass destruction and other make-up-as-you-go BS.
You do understand that the TEA in TEA Party stands for Taxed Enough Already don't you? And you do understand that the TEA Party is largely a middle class anti-tax movement don't you? And you do understand that the TEA party opposes raising taxes on anyone don't you?
Hopefully this will be the beginning of something to really change the path we are on to corporate plutocracy and total bankster rule. Margaret Mead, a cultural anthropologist, writer and speaker, 1901-1978, said it best: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughful, committed citizens can change this world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Power to the people. From a tiny acorn, grows the mighty oak tree.
Ido, Wall street has done more to destroy the American way of life than anyone. Threatening to destroy Wall St. is not treason, as Wall St. is not America. It may be your way of life, but the rest of us are free to choose our own way. That is America.
This has been some of the best conversation I have seen on here.
Good job to all!!
First I would like the look of shelving who we are, we are not American's, here in America we are for Me Italian-American, or Black-American, Hispanic-American and Asian-America, we have been over 200yrs, At what point do we call all of us "just American's" I hate labels, I am not talking about your heritage, we all came here from some were!
This I feel is part of the problem for us, we have to see each other as American's before we be come one country. We keep shooting our self's in the foot.
I am not upset with the protestor at wall street, I am more upset at the fact, I served My country for a free America, but what I see now, we are slowly loosing our rights, I't is happening at the state level, and seamed to be guided by what I see is the right thinking in this country. I have seen this happen over and over when when the right side, starts to take your right away. I would invite you to see what the Indiana S.C. have made ruling on.
I would also like to remind us the barelyold and you younger one's, nobody payed a lot of attention to the hippie's, and they moved a few mountains! There is a reason that Martin Luther, has been moralized. We are loosing the freedom.
We see our repts, sleeping with lobbyist, we can place a stop to that, did you Know, as a American we can send in our own Bill's!
And I am sorry to you that love the Constitution as if God himself made it. But it need to be tweaked, it was a great start, but that was over 200yrs, it needs to be updated.
One of the reason I like this conversation is you all have a conman goal we are tiered of this class war, doe it sound that all men/women are equal. Look at the Koch brother's the so hard working kids of what daddy left them, so the well the rich worked for, you are in deed Wrong! Most of you inherited you're Money, and greed, Why do I say greed, is because you stop caring about the folks that brought the wealth to them for slave labor, want to know why they hate union's? They remove this country from slave labor, and they are betting it up along with some none thinker, buy removing the union's you we be better off. "History lesson" you will read bad thing and then good thing, focus on the reason behind the action's.
You want a movement party against and fight for your freedom and regain you "as they would say, YOU GOD GIVEN RIGHTS". Obama is not our problem, wall street is our problem. This remind me of one of my favorite movie's Robing Hood, And even Zoro, they righted the wrong, but we don't need to steel, we need to make it fair again, we the people of America need to voice up, it is really time for the silent majority to wake up and start to grumble, this country is not the American dream, they are trying to work like China, anyone know what they make???? That is were we are headed if the head stay in the sand and it is some one else job, it is the American's job to insure the reps are getting fired.
Looking for some grass rout then become the the "it has to be fair for all stupid" We can call our self the "American Fair party". The AFP, someone should get on the logo right away!

I will leave with these wise word!
We need not a revaluation with lead but with vote's this is the American way. However!!
This is something that is misguided but is a great idea.
They should be protesting Capitol Hill. My father's pension that he needs to live, most all others that are retired, and anyone with a 401K, etc... saving for retirement depends on the Market. They work within the confines given them, and if they've gone astray..... take a wild guess who's to blame.
Capitol Hill is to blame for EVERYTHING. Protest the repeal of Glass Steagall and the enactment of GLB. Protest the treasonous 'free trade' agreements, NAFTA, CAFTA, it's ilk and the FURTHER proposed selling out of America under this administration..... talks are underway NOW to do so. Protest the laws that allow offshoring of America's Middle Class, that allow tax breaks to corporations that do so. Protest laws that govern banks, allowing the housing market to bubble and burst, and the lack of any legislation that helped deal with it meaningfully (HAMP, etc.... just smoke and mirror voluntary BS).
At least people are waking up and have the energy, the momentum to do something about America's sellout and perils, ..... but.... it's misguided. I want my American based company, a smaller machine shop, to do well. I don't want it taxed to death, I don't want my employer losing money by paying more.... he hires and works 100% within the confines of American soil, and the better he does the better all of us employees do. His stock value goes up, so does my nest egg as I'm invested in the company (though very lightly, still.... it's something).
The tea party is the brain child of the Koch brothers and they continue to fund it. Tea party members are, for the most part, weak minded easily led loud mouths. They don't even realize that they're fighting for the corporations that are taking advantage of them. They have brought the government to a standstill to the delight of most of those corporations, government by the people be damned.
This is a strong statement that is being made by our young people.
These young American citizens recognize that their future - and our country's future has been severely compromised by the insatiable Greed of the GOP/Tea Party and the Right!
With the stalemate over the budget deficit talks in July 2011, the GOP/Tea Party only highlighted their determination to greatly and permanently enhance the economic, social and political well-being of the wealthy elite - at the expense of the suffering middle class and the poor.
This demonstration should send a clear signal to Boehner, McConnell, Cantor and Ryan - that their devastating Reactionary agenda - will not be timidly accepted by our youth.
These college students are setting an example of what America is supposed to stand for - a land of opportunities for all Americans. They recognize that all of our people should should have right to advance in society - and that the middle-class and the poor should not become serfs for the elite.
Hopefully, these youth can bring about the positive change that America needs. For sure the obstinate Right and squabbling in Washington, D.C. has failed to accomplish much for the people.
It is ironic that we have seen these demonstrations in Egypt - now the rest of the world is watching America.
Boehner now has an unexpected "ripple" in his terrifying and UnDemocratic vision for the United States and her people.
When I first heard of the rising of the Tea party, I was a bit excited. People like me, that are sick to death of both current parties, were being told that there may be an option; smaller government, less government intrusion, lobbyism, pork, etc... may be out the door. Back to basics, doing for ourselves... maybe a step back in time to where things made more sense. It could've been a beginning.
Common sense dictated that in order to do so, many of the things I've listed in my post 1.39 would have to be done.... an American based economy with American wages and American companies remaining in America. Well, over time, I became more than just let down. Many predicted it, I prayed it wouldn't happen, but lo and behold.... they aligned themselves with one of the current parties.
I thought the Red was trying to align themselves with them, that the Tea party may fight it and kick them out to the curb and defended them. Well, that didn't happen either. Sometimes I still think there's time, but none of the ranking Tea partiers have come out and spoken against the alignment, once and for all clearly stating that they have NO affiliation with the Red or Blue.
The Red and Blue have clearly become one, as demonstrated by all that's happened over the decades.... again, referring to my post 1.39. Now the one viable party option outside of the Donkephant has become part of it.
This, to me, makes it clear as an azure sky of blue that those on the Hill are hell bent on not changing anything, ever. Blue, Red, or Tea.... they'll all continue along the same path, work together on their wealth and corporo government status of perpetual millionaire wellfare recipients, and try and convince Us that there somehow is a difference, that we need to support one over the other, and keep us divided while again...... they PRETEND to be but are really all the same.
With everything else going on in the world today, it's very pleasing to finally see a LARGE group of people taking on Wall Street. After an $800b bailout, that was suppose to encourage the banks to lend money, and the "Too Big Too Fail", mongers held onto that money, gained interest on that money and didn't do with the money what the bailout was suppose to do. Sorry, but I would like to have my $800b back now, please.
If not, this group on Monday is gonna take it our of your A$$!
Respectfully; how's the Blue end any different from the Red end?
Blue had control of dang near all for over a year, and for over a year they only concentrated on health care. How long would it have taken to re-enact Glass Steagall and put an end to much of the fractional corruptive banking practices? A week, maybe two at the most? Legislating towards tariffs for any American based business NOT hiring and working within at least a 75% margin in America, killing tax breaks for corps. that don't? Maybe a month?
Mixing Red and Blue makes the color purple, and from what I've been told, that color is associated with insanity ( well, actually from what I remember, crazy... kinda like green is with horny. Don't remember the others so well...).
Unhappy Americans need not seek the violent overthrow of the US America government. There's a better way: the ballot and formation of another political party.
That has been tried, and the truth is ALL our lovely politicians have been bought by special interest lobbyists. It is time for more drastic measures.
Blessings to all who are ready to stand up against the insane greed and coldblooded evil that is destroying America. I am 78 and independent with all I need; But ,I will support those who stand for change anyway I can.
It is obvious that banks, wall street and big corporations run America. They own our government, the media and the minds of too many. It is equally obvious that the pigs are pushing us into depression and chaos.
Hopefully this is the start of something that could force real change. We need ten or twenty million in the streets with good leadership and specific demands.
Force our public owned corporations to pay our minimum wages wherever the go. This would bring back jobs and show a little regard for workers. when the CEO of Disney made 600 million in salary and god knows what in bonuses he had Children in Haiti for 12 cents and hour. This is a perfect example of the evil that is taking us to depression and chaos.
All government guaranteed loans should be made directly for a small interest. This would reduce home buyer and students notes by half or more and leave trillions in the hands of our people instead of thieving banks.
Best regards to all who are ready to push for real change. We have the technical and natural resources for a great life and we are throwing all that potential away for the benefit of usurious pigs. Thank goodness for the good people of our country who have not given up every thing worth talking about.
The protestors, and most on the left, have it all wrong.
Capitalism is not the enemy, nor the cause of the problems in our country. Capitalism by its nature is self-regulating and does not allow abuse. In a truly free market, the consumer and the producer are on equal ground. One provides a good or service at a price the other is willing to pay to obtain the good or service. Pretty simple, really.
Enter the US government and the federal reserve who has corrupted the system. We are NOT a free market, capitalist economy. We are a government-regulated, federal reserve controlled economy. When you have a government supporting a system that can print its own money, control interest rates, and pick the winners and losers, you have a system that is bound to fail.
These protestors are being manipulated largely by union supporters (read the About Us sections on the websites). If you think the unions are helping the "working man" you are a fool. The unions have become big business themselves. They are in it for power and profit, but have run a great ad campaign to confuse the issues and win over followers. The unions support communism, socialism, and fascism where they can increase their power even more.
May I remind the supporters of socialism and communism of few things?
No matter the system, you will maintain the class system of haves and have nots. But when you have communism or socialism, you have a tighter control and more concentration of power at the top. The citizens are merely fed scraps, but since everyone is equally miserable, the people are kept in line.
Your hero Che...was a murderous thug who helped install communism in Cuba. Cuba's great, huh? Guess what, the ruler lives in a huge compound, wants for nothing because he controls the wealth of the entire country. How is that possible? Communism is for the people, right? Wrong, communism and socialism are for the communist and socialist, not the people.
The mentality that another person's money is the right of the lazy is exactly oposite of what the country was founded on. When people protest that they deserve more from the wealthy while carrying a cell phones and wearing the latest sun glasses, we have a problem in the country.
It is obvious that banks, wall street and big corporations run America. They own our government, the media and the minds of too many. It is equally obvious that the pigs are pushing us into depression and chaos.
For every banker out there trying to pull a string, there are 2 government hacks pulling it the other way.
Banks and corporations don't run America, an overgrown government with the power to use deadly force does.
People complain about corporations, but those corporations cannot kick your door down and take from you that which is yours.
Only the government has that power and government should be brought under control by these protesters.
After all, we don't HAVE to buy anything other than the daily necessities, and no corporation can punish you for not buying their products, but we do have to pay taxes and the government CAN AND WILL use deadly force to get what it wants.
Ayn Rand is no one to emulate.........she was for unbridled, dog eat dog, survival of the strongest and let the weak die.....more for me capitalism....aka GOP/TP
The American Spring? It is about time that intelligent people wake up and realize that our capitalist economy is a man made, man manipulated, mathematical land of Oz. For those who believe slavery has been done away with better sit up and realize the TRUTH. We now live in what is called economic slavery and our government exists to maintain status quo. People can only be suppressed for so long before the TRUTH calls for revolution.
There is zero in the US constitution indicating that capitalism is to be the only possible economic structure.
You're right. The constitution does not grant the authority of the government to control the economy, nor implement any economic system. By this very absence, the only economic system allowed therefore is capitalism.
Ayn Rand is no one to emulate.........she was for unbridled, dog eat dog, survival of the strongest and let the weak die.....more for me capitalism....aka GOP/TP
Yet she foretold of people stealing copper.......
Atlas Shrugged was written 60 years ago, and yet we see it becoming a reality today.
What was Obama's plan to get us out of his recession last year? High speed rail! LOL
How many new regulations went into effect on 1 Aug? 600!! All of them further regulating small businesses.
How many new jobs created in August? 0!!!
See the correlation between over regulation and job creation yet?
Ayn Rand is no one to emulate.........she was for unbridled, dog eat dog, survival of the strongest and let the weak die.....more for me capitalism....aka GOP/TP
So then, you are for the opposite, which would be...? Best I can gather is you favor a system where it is fair for those with ability, to provide through force to those who cannot or will not provide for themselves. Really now; which is more greedy? You demand rights by demanding that someone else has the responsibility to provide.
Very, very odd. I posted a comment that may have been controversial and it's gone...not collapsed but gone. Is MSNBC protecting me (people have mysteriously died trying to bring the truth to light) or censoring me? And I'm just an ordinary person who took the time to delve into past administrations in depth. YOU can do it too. Thanks to Bill Gates and the advent of the computer we can all learn the truth before "they" decide to censor what is and isn't available.
joemike404
Laura, Rico and Allie,
You do understand that the TEA in TEA Party stands for Taxed Enough Already don't you? And you do understand that the TEA Party is largely a middle class anti-tax movement don't you? And you do understand that the TEA party opposes raising taxes on anyone don't you
JoeMike if that were truly all the TP stood for it would be one thing. But they AREN'T. Unfortunately, most of the followers have good intentions but they are being steered and duped by forces much larger than themselves. All you need to do is follow the money..the big money. Koch, both Bush and Grover Norquist. All big in and the money behind the TP.
In all reality the TEA Party you support is not about you or any of the middle class people supporting them. They are about getting rid of unions so we can ALL live in poverty, about reducing/taking S.S. and medicare so the middle class loses whatever paltry say we have. Do you understand that if the states run insurance companies rather than the federal government there will be NO minimum standard of care. That would be the first step to no care.
This is sad and it's serious. I'm going to try and find a way to fund the protesters since I can't be there. I think it's VERY frightening that:
Further, the DOJ might want to do an investigation on the California scholar
We all need to keep our eyes open and watch that nothing "happens" to him.
“Nearly every day without fail…men stream to these [mining] operations looking for work in Walker County. They can’t pay their mortgage. They can’t pay their car note. They can’t feed their families. They don’t have health insurance. And as I stand here today, I just…you know…what’s the use? I got a permit to open up an underground coal mine that would employ probably 125 people. They’d be paid wages from $50,000 to $150,000 a year. We would consume probably $50 million to $60 million in consumables a year, putting more men to work. And my only idea today is to go home. What’s the use? I see these guys—I see them with tears in their eyes—looking for work. And if there’s so much opposition to these guys making a living, I feel like there’s no need in me putting out the effort to provide work for them. So…basically what I’ve decided is not to open the mine. I’m just quitting. Thank you.”
Oh wait, he quit and didn't open the mine because the people in the area were fighting the mine's opening because of environmental concerns. Now these 125 people looking for work have none. I foresee more people going Galt because of the demands from the government and the people screaming "it's not fair!" What then will you do? Have you won?
So then, you are for the opposite, which would be...?
It's called cooperation... which stems directly empathy, ie, recognition of the "other".
Ayn Rand was a scifi writer who was never meant to be taken literally. To do so is both puerile and sophomoric. On the other hand, "No man is an island" is not a metaphor, it's quite literal.
The basis for a healthy society, regardless of scale, is that it's members know how to balance competition and cooperation.
Atlas was a whiner caught up in his own self importance. You know, infantile.
Don't bother with Kathryn, she is a lost cause. She won't believe that the government has gone too far until they have regulated Birkenstock out of business..... LOL
Apparently you have not read the book. Liberal thought is always about "cooperation" and "feel good" policies.
This is why we have youth sports leagues where no score is kept and everyone gets a trophy for "participating."
When we teach kids that there are no winners or losers....they won't understand when others come along and knock them over the head and take their stuff.
So while you would rather live in a world bereft of competition, I chose to teach my kids that they should only depend on themselves and as family, each other.
Why are there only a few people in each picture? Was the protest miniscule in size or were the photo journalists incompetent?
They were very competent, a good photographer can compose a photo to make a small crowd look big and a big crowd look small , it just depends on which image the Editor decides to use, and obviously the Editor wanted to make this look like a small thing. Once again the Press manipulates what we see and hear.
There is zero in the US constitution indicating that capitalism is to be the only possible economic structure.
You're right. The constitution does not grant the authority of the government to control the economy, nor implement any economic system. By this very absence, the only economic system allowed therefore is capitalism.
Actually congress does have certain economic control mechanisms...but your last assertion that capitalism is the system by default makes no sense whatsoever. There is no default. Economic systems are just abstract trade structures constructed and deconstructed at will.
The US constitution says nothing about a preference for any particular economic form, including capitalism.
Ah, the unions. Those generous men who are only looking out for the "middle class."
Yeah, union thugs are who we need to be in charge alright. That's the ticket!
A "union" is nothing more than a tribe. Unionism is akin to tribalism. Electricians controlling this area, plumbers that. Don't cross tribal (union) lines unless you belong to that tribe (union.)
Wrong, communism and socialism are for the communist and socialist, not the people
What part of that statement isn't happening right here and right now? And it is NOT the unions. The unions are the only thing that has prevented all of us from living in abject poverty. Are they the be all, know all of the middle class....no. Could they use some tweaking? Yes.
I am NOT opposed to people having big money. I do object to people reaping those profits in a less than honorable way AND then not paying the taxes on it. It seems more CEO's are taking a dollar in salary and being actually paid in stock so they can cash in on the loopholes.
I really hope you and others...many, many others can see what's really going on in America today.
Actually congress does have certain economic control mechanisms...but your last assertion that capitalism is the system by default makes no sense whatsoever. There is no default. Economic systems are just abstract trade structures constructed and deconstructed at will.
It makes perfect sense.
Of the three economic systems, Capitalism, Communism and Fascism, Capitalism is the only one that is not imposed on society.
1. Capitalism allows for private ownership and private control of businesses.
2. Communism requires government ownership and control of businesses.
3. Fascism requires private ownership, but government control of businesses.
Therefore, unless the Constitution imposes a system, Capitalism wins by default.
Actually congress does have certain economic control mechanisms...but your last assertion that capitalism is the system by default makes no sense whatsoever. There is no default. Economic systems are just abstract trade structures constructed and deconstructed at will.
You're an intelligent individual; you should understand this. Socialism, communism, and fascism rely heavily on state ownership of the factors of production. The constitution makes no mention of state ownership of the factors of production; therefore eliminating all but capitalism. If you want to change it, change the constitution.
And the US constitution says nothing about a preference for any particular economic form, including capitalism.
Would this be one of those mines where people develop black lung disease and then don't have medical insurance to cover it?
This is not 1920, there is more government over site of the mining industry than any other.
Would it be one of those mines that collapse on the workers because safety issues aren't a concern of the owner?
Mining is a dangerous occupation, I doubt there are any miners that go to work not knowing this. Unless there is someone forcing miners into the mine at gunpoint, I am sure that they are intelligent and trained well enough to recognize safety problems.
Strip mining is infinitely safer, but the "environmentalists" have all but made that method illegal.
Not to worry, Obama has made it a point that he intends to put the coal industry out of business all together.....
Blame the system rather than our ability; that seems like the common mantra for today. The system is too hard. I cannot get a break. Rich people should give me half theirs after all they owe it to me. We need to get off our collective asses and be innovative, creative and hardworking. There is no difference from those at the top saying I am going to make as much as I can and those at the lower levels saying I am going to take as much as I can.
No one owes us @!$%#e! You want to get somewhere then throw away the flip-flops and put on some hiking boots and get-r-done.
What part of that statement isn't happening right here and right now? And it is NOT the unions. The unions are the only thing that has prevented all of us from living in abject poverty. Are they the be all, know all of the middle class....no. Could they use some tweaking? Yes.
The unions represent 12% of the workforce. The majority of which are government union members. How exactly are the unions keeping us from living in poverty? If businesses didn't pay wages agreeable to the worker, would the worker continue for work for that company? Likely not. Wages that are set to mutually agreeable levels of company and worker benefit everyone.
Unions are nothing more than big businesses themselves. Do you think they really care for you or are they merely selling you an idea to collect your monthly dues? It's actually one hell of a business model. I'll collude with the businesses to make you feel good all the while I'm taking your dues to the bank, sucka. Many times workers will unionize for a $2/hour increase in wages, not realizing that their dues are consuming more than the amount they receive. If you want to be unionized, fine. But should it be a mandatory condition of employment? If you truly want to organize, do it locally where you form a group of workers who will speak for the group but don't confiscate wages.
I do object to people reaping those profits in a less than honorable way AND then not paying the taxes on it. It seems more CEO's are taking a dollar in salary and being actually paid in stock so they can cash in on the loopholes.
Are they doing anything illegal? If so, prosecute and punish them. If they are simply taking advantage of the tax code within legal means, sobeit. The question you should be asking is, why are we taxed at such high levels? Does our federal government provide and pay for more than what is within its constitutional limits? Maybe if our government didn't spend so much money, didn't place such heavy regulations on industry, didn't pay farmers not to grow food, we would have a thriving economy where we could all easily afford to eat, we could all afford adequate health care, etc.
I really hope you and others...many, many others can see what's really going on in America today
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone. I was once a teamsters member, I was once a self-labeled liberal...now I have awaken.
No worries. There will be tens of thousands there on Monday. Of course, most of which will be people actually going to work; not camping in a park, unbathed.
BS protest on a Saturday???? more like a PR stunt, if it happened during the week perhaps this could be considered a story. not much trading on a Saturday, more like a walk n the park with 999 friends.
would not be surprised if most of the protesters were brokers simulating a protest <sarc>
Quit blaming the corporations. They're not the ones who allow the lobbying. Our government has set up the pay to play system. Ban and punish lobbying for the politicians and the lobbyists. Then corporatism fails and true capitalism succeeds.
Really you said the Corporations don't own the Government.LIKE HELL THEY DON'T!
These politicians are all bought and paid for High Priced Whores on both sides of the Aisle.
Where the hell have you been? Oh I know in never never land? The land where I don't have to face REALITY!
What is a corporation Gloria? It is PEOPLE. A corporation is nothing more than a group of people who create a company to produce a product or service.
Corporations do not "own" the government, nor do they control it. It is bigger than that.
If corporations did own the government, would they not be able to get rid of the endless regulations that are imposed on them?
I am not afraid of any corporation. If I don't like or want their product, they cannot force me to buy it. The government on the other hand seems of late to believe that it can force me to buy something that I might not want.
It's not teachers who are at fault for our education system, it is the boards of education - the national and the states. The curriculum has been so dumbed down. There is no challenge. Teachers would love to be able to teach what kids want to learn and need to learn, but all they are able to teach are those damned achievement tests. They have become the curriculum - test scores provide money to fund the schools. We should be embarrassed with our education system.

It is my belief that unions are no longer needed in this country. There are laws in place to protect the worker. Unions have helped to drive up the cost of insurance for the rest of us - whatever breaks they receive, we pay the difference in higher premiums. The cost of a new car, for example, is not materials. We are paying for the companies' overly inflated labor, low insurance, and pensions. Belonging to a union is really no better than being a congress person. I have applied to a few jobs where you had to join the union in order to hired - I refused.
This is just the beginning, go to "OCTOBER2011.ORG" then sign up to join us in the occupation of freedom square in wash dc.
Lets all quit pretending, get off of our well fed complacant behinds and put some effort into this job and take our country back from the special money interestes that have stolen it from average citizens through the use of our government.
The time is now! the entire worlds people are rising up, join us for the sake of our children and grandchildren. the current state of affairs came to pass on our watch (baby boomers) lets do something about it!
The same traders who cheated people at Enron were hired by Wall Street and continue to do the same thing without any consequences. This is great. People will resist as they get pushed into poverty by the Republican's good friends. Big business, banks, Wall Street, etc. These politicians running around crushing people's rights to bargain, closing down Planned Parenthood. They don't want big govenment interference yet it's fine for them to push their crazy religious beliefs on everyone and destroy people's rights. They are in for a big surprise. When people are pushed into a corner and into poverty as the rich get richer, look out. They may turn to violence at some point.

Yes, strap on your Birkenstocks, hit Starbucks on the way in for a pick me up, crank up some righteous tunes on your iPod and get out there and protest those evil corporations!!!
Then go back to your job.....funded by some evil corporation and reflect on just how much you contributed to the positive energy in "freedom" square.
The same traders who cheated people at Enron were hired by Wall Street and continue to do the same thing without any consequences. This is great. I don't even know where to begin on this one....LOL
Yes, "poverty" is coming to this country!!!! Unfortunately to those truly living in poverty, the word does not have the same meaning here.
In the US, "poverty" is driving a 10 year old car.
"Poverty" is owning a huge TV but not being able to pay your electric bill.
So yeah! Lets get out there and protest POVERTY!!!!
Geeesh....these intellectuals should travel to other countries before they are allowed to vote.
I BET if you ask any of the protesters if they have a plan as to what they would do differently that would change their life and the others around them you would...hear....CRICKETS. Fun to go protest with your iphones, androids and ipads, cool shades, designer jeans and $100 shoes, but give us something that resembles a solution. Oh wait, you'd have to actually think - much harder than walking around shouting for someone else to change things and give you more stuff. Yeah, I thought so!
No matter the system, you will maintain the class system of haves and have nots. But when you have communism or socialism, you have a tighter control and more concentration of power at the top. The citizens are merely fed scraps, but since everyone is equally miserable, the people are kept in line.
Like I asked...what part of this isn't happening today? Fancy footwork but you didn't answer the question. You do understand do you not that the top 10% of earners own 90% of America? Money talks, buys campaigns and makes the rules. That my friend is life. You make it sound like it's so easy to get rid of the lobbyist etc. and it's not! People have died trying. And this 90% wants to put THEIR tax burden on ME?? What's that all about?
The unions represent 12% of the workforce. The majority of which are government union members. How exactly are the unions keeping us from living in poverty? If businesses didn't pay wages agreeable to the worker, would the worker continue for work for that company?
Sadly I've read the 12% stats also. Unions helped people earn a higher wage than most companies are willing to pay. That's simple....look at all the companies who have gone overseas where they can pay a worker $12. a day. Were the unions bleeding these companies dry? Hell no...greed is what propelled these CEO's. Has the price of anything moved overseas gone down? Unions also gave workers health care they could afford. Very good health care tyvm. Now you tell me...which of these has the American peon worker not earned? And yes unfortunately people have to live and eat and some have to support a family...they will work at whatever job they can find. And all these jobs shouldn't be at Wal Mart.
Are they doing anything illegal?
ABSOLUTLEY I suggest that you google the name Danny Cassollaraand start there. What you know is the edited version of the truth.
Do I like that a union boss makes $100,000. a year? No but it's all we have for right now. When Universal health care and a $20. minimum wage is enacted we can get rid of the unions.
Like I said you've read and heard the edited part.
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a monied aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. The issuing power (of money) should be taken away from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs." -- Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President.
"It is well that the people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning." -- Henry Ford
"The Federal Reserve banks are one of the most corrupt institutions the world has ever seen. There is not a man within the sound of my voice who does not know that this nation is run by the International bankers." -- Congressman Louis T. McFadden (Rep. Pa)
Crazy parrots who feel they are entitled flock to wallstreet to roost....
Today on wallstreet, crazy parrots whe feel they are entitled to everything free, or above their means flocked in groves to wallstreet with ruffled feathers. They however could only repeat what they have been told over and over again "we are entitled!", and "give us what you have, for we are the lazy, the stupid, and the entitled!"
Meantime, working Americans across the nation, who appretiate the value of work, and didnt go to the talking parrots seminars that began during the last presidential election, sat back and had a good laugh.
Parrot seed being in shortage however, extra crunchy peanutbutter was handed out as a food suppliment. Exsperts guess you will be hearing the screams of the Crazy Parrots even louder, when the time of crying about Wallstreet ends, and the call of nature begins.
that is how i think at least part of the article should have read...
The Democrats & Liberals were part of the problem but at least they are telling it like it is now, UNLIKE the republicans, attempts to BS and distract. To attempt to BS to put Medicare & social security on the chopping block to help cover up the tipping-point debt that bank bailout caused is unconscionable.
whats the matter snake? feel you will no longer be entitled to sit and watch others work for you? libs and dems admitting now, after 4 years of commitee meetings and so on questioning their methods that have brought destitude to America, now willing to admit? little late dont you think?
meantime as i said earlier, SS is set to go belly up 2017 if something isnt done... that would mean the people capable of working will have to work. whats so bad about that? that means the people who have been putting in will recieve.... what part is so bad of all that? same goes for medicare/medicade.... you have something agaisnt the working class? or is it you feel those who work OWE you something so can can sit on your duff all day?
The banks in their infinite greed crashed the real estate market and then the economy. I lost my job and my home and the government did nothing to punish these crooks.
There were no tax breaks given for lost home equity, no unemployment insurance for the self employed.
There were no financial reforms put in place so this could not happen again. The idea that we can change anything at the ballot box is a joke. It takes millions of dollars to get elected, which ensures that every politician is bought and paid for before they get into office.
If the Republicans protected the people they way they protect the rich that would be something. I have no illusion who they work for, and it is not 'the people".
Campaign reform and term limits are required before the government will really represent the people.
Washington is never going to do a thing about this until the people rise up in masses and demand it. Everyone with the means to do so should join the protest this weekend.
Two Wars to protect whose interest? They forgive each debt's in addition now this new world of intermingled debt. No health plan as even The Peoples Republic of China has a national health plan yes it is true and their, the Chinese people, this man I heard give a long speech - Wow - he I forget his name the premier of THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA is on top of this game and can speak to any issue with no teleprompter with detailed intricate answers More to follow on this brilliant man. We have become "debt slaves" they give us money (print) and say OK now give us back but keep just enough that you need to keep coming back as they know the system of control yes nothing but control and discard.
Stop these TWO WARS NOW the massive corruption, abuse and rape of the American citizen. I asked myself what Jesus would do, although Jesus would be a terrorist with the words he spoke, he would knock the tables over all the desks and take away all the little expensive play toys they play games with our lives and waste them on phony wars only well oiled money machines and abuse the victims of 9-11.
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. The world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children....This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from an iron cross." DD Eisenhower 1952
He warned US of the greatest danger - Yes - he warned us - "I Like Ike"
Would this be one of those mines where people develop black lung disease and then don't have medical insurance to cover it?
This is not 1920, there is more government over site of the mining industry than any other.
Your answer is so funny Really. Is this the same government over site that you feel should be gotten rid of??
You are NOT making any sense. And my bet is that there are still people getting black lung disease. And mines keep collapsing and men have to have jobs. You see a circle going on here? Do you see where regulation IS needed?
the ones who plopped the economy were the ones like Freddie Mac/Fannie May. giving loans to all the morons who had no job. ACORN, for staging protests in banks, and trashing them, when the jobless were not given loans to get a free house. the banks were not the root, the ones who felt they were entitled for something they never worked a day in their life did. Those same people have been an achor on the taxpayer for too long, and THIS is the result of it.
Americans have got used to the "hand outs" not the "hand up", and its way past time this is changed.if you stopped giving to those who have never done anything, from free healthcare,(medicare/medicade), SSI, welfare, foodstamps, paid gas and electric and all the other goodies, how much do you think will be saved state and federal wise? billions? tens of billions? hundreds of billions? i'd be willing to bet if you total both on a state and federal sheet, it hits close to a trillion, if not over that.
give those that put in something, leve those who have done nothing out in the cold. work for your wants, not have someone else do it for you!
This is just a butch of Lazy people that think they can get little stoplight time. When if you research this it is put on by the UNIONS. They are after one thing get Boso re-elected that is the owny thing for this so call protest.
This is the root of the problem, not Wall Street. Many people agree that Washington is bought out. Our Reps are not Our Reps, but big money lapdogs.... and this does go for both sides. Without Glass Steagall, without regulations against fractional reserve banking, futures, options, etc... (that which REALLY got us into this mess, besides the big factor of allowing corporate sell out overseas to 3rd world wage interests, calling it a 'global economy') none can expect the business world to monitor themselves. Out of the goodness of their hearts?
Again, capitalism is barely contained greed.
Clowngress has not been doing their jobs then, have they? They've sold out decades ago. Therefore, I say again..... peoples anger is misdirected, and government corporotism is being confused with monitored, legislated parameterly capitalism.
March the Hill, protest Clowngress being millionaires, completely disenfranchised from being 'representatives' and volunteering time to be 'public servants' and NOT lifelong career wellfare recipients.
Look at the standings, see the number of career politicians. Heck, common sense was gone some time ago as there are political science degrees in colleges.... people actually seeking this status.... as a career!!! How does one need degreed to represent, for a BRIEF period of time (term limits, pleeeeassse) fellow Americans? Fellow Americans living just as you, suffering the same problems, involved in the same daily life style, bill paying, working and all else..... just as you?
The banks in their infinite greed crashed the real estate market and then the economy. I lost my job and my home and the government did nothing to punish these crooks.
The banks were pressured by the government to issue loans to people who were marginal at best, and inept at worst.
There were no tax breaks given for lost home equity, no unemployment insurance for the self employed.
So the public should cover you for the decisions you made? Only a liberal would think that success should be guaranteed.
Democrats could just as easily be inserted here.
Campaign reform and term limits are required before the government will really represent the people.
Governments have NEVER represented the "people."
Washington is never going to do a thing about this until the people rise up in masses and demand it. Everyone with the means to do so should join the protest this weekend.
No thanks, I am not much of a "joiner." Too independent I guess.
You do know, don't you, that many, many Americansare on SSI disability and medicaid are on it because it's the only healthcare they can get for their children? And many, many are on it because medical costs are so terribly high. So many people in this country are truly disabled - not all are visible disabilities. So many only have part-time jobs and those jobs do not offer insurance of any kind. It is not an easy thing to be accepted into SSI. Whether you believe it not, not all SSI recipients are indigent. Most who are not totally disabled, work at a job.
Universal healthcare would solve alot of our problems and you guys could quit bitching about the cost of your "so called entitlements"
There are regulations, and there are "regulations." The next time you are removing some paint in your home, you might want to research the "regulations" that cover that.
Don't remember the others so well...).#1.45- Sun Sep 18, 20117:51 AM EDT
ModerationInAllThings,
You asked me how are the Blue different from the Red?
Because of Blue/Democratic elected officials specific domestic policies have become law. These policies will benefit our senior citizens, the middle class and the poor.
I would like to start with history and a long-standing tradition.
I will start with FDR.
- FDR was a starkly different president that the Red Republican - Hoover.
- FDR's New Deal policies put America back to work and gave Americans the protection of Social Security - which despite GOP attempts to eliminate this program - still stands and enhances the well-being of many of our citizens today.
- In the 1960's under LBJ, we got Medicare and Medicaid - 2 more Vital programs - that despite GOP efforts to eliminate these 2 programs - still stands and provides medical care for many of our citizens today.
- Conversely, in 1980, Reagan made it clear to the wealthy - that personal and corporate Greed was good. This father of the recent Conservative movement put into motion the accelerated Greed that we are painfully struggling with today.
- By the year 2000, former Democratic President Clinton - lead America to a budget surplus.
- Under GOP/Red "leadership," we lost our financial surplus.
- Between the years 2000 and 2008 - there was a huge transfer of wealth - from the poor and middle class - to the wealthy. This wealth and income disparity has been sustained by GOP economic policies - and this disempowering wealth gap has increased exponentially.
Under President Obama:
- Americans did receive a small stimulus package.
- Health Care Reform has been enacted so that health insurance coverage would be available to all of our citizens.
- Funding for Food Nutrition Programs has been increased.
- Better Banking Regulations has become law.
- Home financing programs have been put in place to help struggling home owners try to retain their homes.
- Oftentimes, home ownership is the average citizen's greatest source of wealth.
- Educational Pell Grants will continue so that financially needy students can have access to higher education.
- Justice Sonia Sotomayor was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court.
- Justice Sotomayor has demonstrated that she is not a corporate judge. She has not sat on the bench and protected Big Corporations and the wealthy - through denial of the legal rights of the middle class and the poor.
- The Automobile Industry received a financial bailout.
I know that many of our citizens do not like the word "bailout."
- Nevertheless, the bailout of the automobile industry significantly strengthened America's industrial manufacturing sector. This bailout saved thousands of American jobs.
- The Payroll Tax-cut for the working class is being extended.
- Saving the Payroll Tax-cut only makes sense - as the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy was extended.
- The Bush era practice of "no-bid" defense contracts for the U.S. military was ended.
- The enforcement of equal pay for women was instituted.
- The Ryan White Act was extended - so that HIV/AIDS treatments can continue.
- Transportation programs have been funded so that our citizens do not have to envy China's railways.
That President Obama has accomplished the above significant Domestic Policies is a miracle.
Our president struggles and toils - under an obstinate GOP/Tea Party legion.
The GOP/Tea Party has shamelessly declared that their main goal - is to make sure that Obama fails at every policy effort - and to ensure that he is only a One-Term president.
ModerationInAllThings, I do agree with you that too many "Blue" politicians - have blurred the line between Blue and Red...concerning their true concern for the American populace.
Too many of our current-day Blue elected officials do not have the staunch regard for our populace...as previous Democratic statesman such as FDR and LBJ.
Importantly, though, I can assure you that if John McCain had won the 2008 presidential election - the sweeping decimation of seniors, the middle-class and the poor that the extreme Right Wing is seeking - would have met far less resistance under John McCain - than under our current president.
I do hope that President Obama holds "the line" and that he does not give the Right any additional compromises.
Facts - Principles - and Greed - GET RID OF THE RACE CARD that dog won't hunt
@ the idiots - Big government? Dumb nut there is less Federal workforce then at anytime in since WW2 look it up and stop talking from your neck get your facts straight - The Federal Government is shrinking not growing and not the problem.
$125,000,000,000 to $150,000,000,000 only for a phony war in Afghanistan, why are we there? (Billions)
Military $450,000,000,000 (BILLION) per year for what? The money in the involuntary contribution retirement system better have it and give my - operative word is BETTER HAVE MY MONEY AND PAY IT BACK TO ME AS AGREED - when I ask for it back as agreed.
400 people make more then 50,000,000 (fifty MILLION) working middle class Americans in aggregate dollars - You are the lazy ass not Us - You get you're lazy ass up and come out from behind your desk and work a real job and see life from a different perspective with no health insurance- can YOU stop these phony wars? OR do the people have to stop them for you?
STOP THESE PHONY FOR PROFIT WARS NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Note: This president has no one on his side not even his own party is it any wonder he has to fight everyday each and everyday and though he has made accommodations that is over back to the promise of a REAL CHANGE - ENOUGH
The working American is now hanging from an IRON CROSS, as it was stated Aristocracy and a Plutocracy including Facism would come to America draped in the flag and holding a Bible -
ABSOLUTE SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE - First Amendment
Get religion and money influence out of government !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reality is, though, that all are rich... red and blue.
All recieve over 220K a year salaries, lifelong retirements, bennies, etc.... .
All are career politicians.
All have done nothing about Glass Steagall being reinforced.
All have done nothing about bringing jobs back home, doing away with NAFTA and other treasonous treaties.
All have done a GOOD job at making subtle differences here or there for their supposed 'side' but the overall picture never changes.
Jobs sold out, financial institutions allowed to do what they will, ..... nothing of real importance that could save America is ever done because it hits BOTH sides where it hurts.... their career status and their wallets/pocketbooks.
And, all have had the chance at one or more times over the past decades to make meaningful changes. None have. So, I have to stand by my assertion that neither blue nor red has America's best interests at heart and are both part of corporo-government.
To say you're pro blue or pro red is really choosing the lesser of two evils depending on your circumstances but is not choosing any that have sound, common sense, America - First best interest, honest representation at heart.
Why is it that you never hear of a successful, rich, business owner that protests for the little guy?
Isn't that what Warren Buffet recently did when he wrote in the New York Times that congress should stop coddling the rich and tax billionaires at the same rate as the middle class?
The color purple represents: good judgement, peace of mind, higher self, wisdom, dignity, self respect, independence, and creativity. All traits that Americans could have if they would work together to make things better. Division helps no one.
That is why I'd said; there's no difference betwixt the two parties.... and they thrive moreso on divisiveness than ever before. Reading the Vine, people interject politics into every possible discussion, and are rabid with division.
"kitten found alive after 3 days lost in a well"..... and, some poster, "wonder what teabagger's behind that one? After all, that's where they want us all to be." Then another..."bet the libs spent all my tax dollars saving it."
The color purple could mean what you state, Pagan, if the 'parties' worked together. All they're doing is putting every ounce of energy into dividing the nation.... Red or Blue, us vs. them. That is why I revert back to the childhood definition of the color purple's meaning...... because so many are reverting back to childhood and buying into the extremism.
I agree. Both parties are to blame. The hate and misinformation that is spewed on this and other forums is truly disturbing to me. Your post made mention of the color thing, and I wanted to add more. I think we are on the "same page". :)
How many of you guys that support the tea party movement really, truly, know what is behind the movement? Watch The Billionaires Tea Party. It may open your eyes a bit. It's rather scary.
Apparently, MSNBC, FOX, and CNN only want you to be angry about what they "decide" you should be angry about.
"Fair and balanced" "Lean forward" "Keeping them honest"
These are the taglines they push in your face, knowing full well they don't even believe it themselves, while they sit in their studios ignoring whats happening right down the street.
Isn't that what Warren Buffet recently did when he wrote in the New York Times that congress should stop coddling the rich and tax billionaires at the same rate as the middle class?
Warren Buffet has for decades avoided paying taxes. Now at 80+ years old he comes out and demands that the government tax millionaires more?
Why?
When one of his companies owes millions in back taxes that he has avoided.
Typical liberal though, always worried about what someone else has or does.
Remember, it was the liberal "progressives" that gave us the income tax, prohibition and every other program designed to control our lives. They go against everything this country was founded to be.
You do know, don't you, that many, many Americansare on SSI disability and medicaid are on it because it's the only healthcare they can get for their children? And many, many are on it because medical costs are so terribly high. So many people in this country are truly disabled - not all are visible disabilities.
i have met as many if not MORE people who milk the system than not. whats that telling you? i know personally these types of people who collect SSI, and are more than capable of working. 3 who CLAIM they are too fat to do any job other than troll WalMart. 4 who claim chronic back problems, but yet i see these same people lift as much, if not more than i can, and with less pain. 5 who like to stay hopped up on pills, claiming they cant deal with stress. 1 who claims he has arthritis in his knees, but you should see him when he's outside playing with his kids. then about another 8 who collect, due to various reasons unknown to me, but you would almost think, if there is a reason for them not to work, you would obviously see it. then there are the few who as yes you describe, who NEED IT.
i think if anything if these very same people are not milking the system, then they are the biggest p*$$ies i have ever seen. i have 1 knee than might need sugury, i have to inverted disks in my back, and have had them since 91', neck pain, and other pains. Yet, i never used them as an excuse NOT TO WORK, much less even call into work. maybe after my insurance kicks in, i MIGHT look into getting my knee worked on, but i can still walk, not run, and going up and down stairs and ladders is trust me more than painful. yet i see it i still have more than a few good working years left in me, and i dont plan on spending it on my back, NOR on the taxpayers dime!
yet come 2017, when the SSI machine blows up, and all the rest of the stuff I, and OTHER TAXPAYERS put into is all gone, due to those who feel they are entitled, yet are not, me, as well as others can simply just chalk it up as what? we helped the system that was overburdend with dead beats? ya, right! i say put SSI, medicare, medicade on the chopping block, and dont stop till all the dead meat is cut off.... and keep it off!
Do you mean as those big liberals Eisenhower, Nixon and Reagan all raised taxes, not to mention Bush Sr.???????????????
Pay your share which maybe going up or move out of the country become a ciitizen of a different country take your choice, I have no problem with a measly 4% of taxable income over $500,000 (married filing jointly) this is my country you and those as you may leave ASAP. Please Leave
Megalodon - it is called greed an insatiable thirst for money
What planet do you live on? We are in this mess because of regulators and risk assessment manager and a host of other reasons (repeal of Glass-Steagall etc)and you point to chump change you really need to see life through a different set of blinders and talking points as you are totally under some sort of malevolent spell. Do you own a thinking cap?
Drone on you seem to be good at it...........and that only.........
I almost forgot to mention bought and paid politicians...Geez
Then, Megaladon, you need to report them. If they are abusing the system and you don't report them, then you are contributing to the problem. Out of a few those, some my actually be a real disability. Not all disabilities are debilitating 100% of the time. The docs and lawyers who file for these folks need to be found and prosecuted. The application process is not easy to do on one's own, but it can be done.
JUST BECAUSE YOU CANNOT SEE A DISABILITY DOES NOT MEAN IT DOES NOT EXIST. Many, many people in this country have debilitating illnesses you would not know they had when you meet them. Your attitude is archaic - outdated. Do some research into hidden disabilities. Good for you for not giving in to your problems, but don't berate others who cannot function as you do. My son is one of those people who have a hidden disability. He would give anything to not have his illness and to be able to live a normal life.
sry, but when i see people doing things that take as much physical effort as it takes me, or less, have no mental issues, nothing of the sort... i dint buy it they cant go out and get some sort of job. such as being too fat... the funniest of them all... what happens when one does next to nothing all day outside of pound down junkfood and sweets? calling it a disability that you put yourself into, that you can get out of is milking the system. claiming you have a back pain that prevents you from working, yet you do all sorts of physical type tasks...milikng it!
basically, if you can get off your azz move around on both legs without a crane or hover round... you can go out, and get a job! i have seen people with greater pain than me, mental disabilities, and what ever bs excuse you can come up for them, out in the working population.
no more excuses! no more pity the poor me jags! get a job! if you have a ailment such as lol, too fat, i would be glad to see a good tummy band, lose the weight go to work. enough milking the system, and yes! SSI is getting milked. FIX IT!
must be one of those crazy parrots that feel everyone is entitled to include yourself? SSI is your paycheck is it? one of those illnesses that only you can see problems? get a job.
Absolutely not, you hateful jerk. I take none of my son's SSI - it is his money . Out of what he receives, he pays for all doc visits - one of which is $125 per. Without it just one of his meds, actual cost, is $468 for 30 day supply. His illness is none your of your freakin' business, but I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. You are not immune from mental illness or other illnesses. Anything can happen at any time.
I agree that some do abuse it, but it is what it is. You cannot get SSI or SSDI without tons of documentation - docs actually fill out forms for documentation.
The uninformed and misinformed are running amok! You need to find out more about what your precious TP is spouting - you would be mighty surprised what is actually behind the movement. I am done with you now. I have no time to waste on the hateful of this world. Watch out what you say = it might come back and bite you in the ass!
Of the three economic systems, Capitalism, Communism and Fascism, Capitalism is the only one that is not imposed on society.
You are kidding, right? I guess capitalism wasn't be imposed on Chile when the US sponsored the overthrow of a democratically elected Allende by Pinochet, or Reagan's little attempted overthrow of Nicaragua or the entire anti-communism of McCarthyism of the 50's had nothing to do with capitalism being instituted by the capitalist power elites? What do you think the entire cold war was about except for capitalists trying to overthrow communism?
1. Capitalism allows for private ownership and private control of businesses.
So does socialism.
2. Communism requires government ownership and control of businesses.
So does capitalism in some respects (anti-trust rules and utility regulations)
3. Fascism requires private ownership, but government control of businesses.
Fascism is a political form not an economic one.
Therefore, unless the Constitution imposes a system, Capitalism wins by default.
It's still a nonsensical premise.
You are also avoiding the fact that there mixed economies.
1. Capitalism allows for private ownership and private control of businesses.
So does socialism.
No it doesn't The Government has full control don't believe me start a factory in china they will have their own people controlling it you are just the puppet.
Not for the ones remaining within economic chains.
Of the three economic systems, Capitalism, Communism and Fascism, Capitalism is the only one that is not imposed on society.
Of course it is imposed. Lack of money means you go hungry. Make a buck and how much of that is taken away from you? A glut of workers means less demand and lower salaries. Shall I go on?
1. Capitalism allows for private ownership and private control of businesses.
Within the framework handed down by the government.
2. Communism requires government ownership and control of businesses.
Agreed!
3. Fascism requires private ownership, but government control of businesses.
Agreed.
Therefore, unless the Constitution imposes a system, Capitalism wins by default.
Our Constitution may not impose an economic system, sort of. There is a greater framework which controls the Constitution. It is called the federal reserve which is an extremely unhealthy way of floating the elite of the elite. This is the worst part of capitalism which creates a system of utter GREED!

Wow, how you got this world view is beyond me. So we were the aggressors in the cold war? Maybe you should try telling that to the people of eastern Europe. Capitalism is not imposed, it is the natural state of business. Given a lack of government control, it is capitalism that forms, not communism or fascism. It is possible to have a communist government with a capitalism economy. Just because it has not been tried yet does not mean it won't work. China is moving in that direction, but has not gotten there yet.
1. Capitalism allows for private ownership and private control of businesses.
So does socialism.
No it doesn't. In the UK in the 50's to the 80's, all industries were nationalized, that's called socialism. Everyone worked for the government. It was Thatcher who privatized them and removed government control. I lived in the UK from 83-87 and saw the turmoil. I also saw companies that were government controlled take off and some go bust. Want to see a product made by a socialist system, buy a Jaguar made in the 70's to early 80's and see how long you drive it before it breaks down or catches fire. LOL
2. Communism requires government ownership and control of businesses.
So does capitalism in some respects (anti-trust rules and utility regulations)
Regulation does not equal ownership or control. Regulations may be environmental or financial, but they do not impose such control in that they do not limit what a company can produce or sell. Communism/Socialism requires ownership, Fascism requires control.
3. Fascism requires private ownership, but government control of businesses.
Fascism is a political form not an economic one.
Do some research.
Therefore, unless the Constitution imposes a system, Capitalism wins by default.
It's still a nonsensical premise.
No it isn't. Unless a system is imposed on a people, they are free to do as they please. ONLY in a capitalist system is someone such as you or I allowed to create a business, be it a pet store, a delivery service or just mowing lawns, and operate it as we please within whatever regulations are in place if any.
You are also avoiding the fact that there mixed economies.
Such as what China? That is the only system I am aware of that is transforming itself into a hybrid.
Not for the ones remaining within economic chains.
Those would be Communists and Fascists.
Is it imposed? Did the government dictate where you work, what you make, how you make it and how much you will be paid? No. You are free to open any type of business you want to and while there are some regulations in place for most industries, there are none that dictate what kind of business you can own nor how you operate it. Unless you own a chemical company and want to dump your waste into a river. There are regulations against that.
1. Capitalism allows for private ownership and private control of businesses.
Within the framework handed down by the government.
Really? So the government dictates what kind of business you can own and places controls over what you can and cannot do with it? So I cannot open a dog grooming/tax preparation business? I do believe that I can. So come on in and we will groom your dog while we do your taxes! Or maybe a hot dog stand combined with a septic tank service. I certainly could do either, but I would not recommend the chili. ;-)
Regulations do not equal control, although with today's regime, over regulation is a problem
No, our constitution does not impose anything on anyone. It guarantees our freedoms and places limits on what our government can do, not the other way around. Remember, Communism and Fascism are 20th century manifestations. Communism was created in 1917 with the Russian revolution and Fascism a few years later with Mussolini, Hitler and Franco. There are currently no Fascist governments left and Communism is on it's way out.
Capitalism has been around forever. When one person has something to trade and someone else trades for it, and there is no government, king, potentate or community organizer dictating what can be sold or how, that is capitalism.
Greed is a human frailty, and there have always been those who are greedy and always will be, even in Communist and Fascist states.

maybe if you went to college and wasn't lazy you could be wealthy. people who work on wall st. are hard working decent people who do work that no wants to do. go back to school or shut the hell up
managing peoples accounts ACTUALLY takes some skill..mathematics and accounting. people are stupid and need to grow up. stop labeling people who wake up early and work long hours as the culprits.
This has been advertised and promoted on all the socialist, anarchist, communist, Moveon, Code pink etc. sites for awhile now. While I don't like the idea of them pushing a socialist/anti-capitalist regime change, I have to agree with one salient point. The Big Banks, Insurance companies, the Goldamn Sachs and traders who got us into this financial mess, are walking off scott free, unpunished, and all set to do it all over again.
There is a need for banking regulations, even, fair and across the board regulations, rather like Glass-Steagall. I don't agree that communism or anarchy or violent overthrow of the system will solve anything but I do agree that some serious changes have to be made, first and foremost, no more bailouts, ever!
WallSt are full of FatCats who are so smart and college educated that they bankrupted LehmanB, Bearstearn, MerrillLynch, Citigroup, AIG, Fannie/Freddie, GM, Chrysler, and others. After these companies received taxpayer bailouts, their brilliant CEOs continue to draw six or even seven digit annual salary plus perks.
Bernie Madoff was colleged educated, too, as well as Bernie Ebber of Worldcom, Ken Lay of Enron, Kozlowshi of Tyco, Martha Stewart of OmniVision, Robert Vesco of Equity Funding, Regis of Aldelphi, Nachio of Qwest, and the hundreds of crooks still working (stealing) on WallSt.
Sciencenew, First off, there's a world of difference between self-made millionaires, and the stock swindlers on Wall Street. I
Isn't it just AWFUL, how those downtrodden Wall Street millionaires are being picked on by the the bullies. All these picked-on rich guys ever did was foist some plain simple credit default swaps on those smarmy poor slobs who just tried to earn an honest living.
Your support of corporate wealth during its hour of discomfort is ever so appreciated.
Mygirl - How about getting the money back that the Fed gave to foreign as well as U.S. banks. How about the Dept. of Justice bringing charges against the people that created the fraudulent schemes that almost brought down the world economy. How about those criminals go to jail. When is that going to happen?
maybe if you went to college and wasn't lazy you could be wealthy. people who work on wall st. are hard working decent people who do work that no wants to do. go back to school or shut the hell up
lmao here, you obviously don't get out much or read. tons of college students can't get a job because there are no jobs for them. So how do you propose they get rich when the rich have hoarded all the cash and businesses for themselves.
BofA is letting go of 30k people, and a CEO at on of their banks is going to get a 3.7 mil bonus at the end of this year on top of his 730k salary.
Some people need to open their effen eyes and see what's going on in America. The people are being robbed by the rich, church and religions, banks and Wall Street.
Barry: You'll notice that I brought up those very concerns in my post. As to when or how the money will come back? Ban the Fed. You do realize that the debt is from borrowed money, now some of that money comes from China and other countries who bought our treasuries. Who issues the treasuries? Essentially the Federal Reserve owns our debt and is making tons and trillions of dollars in interest.
I don't agree with Ron Paul's policies across the board but on the issue of the Federal Reserve he is spot on. We don't have capitalism, we have crony-capitalism, or plutocratic corporatism. Our politicians are part and parcel of that plutocracy. Until we get rid of crony capitalism and the politicans who are in the pockets of the banks and massive corporations we will not see any changes, or charges brought against the thieves on Wall Street/
Hard working? Yes, hardworking stealing our money and ripping us off. Decent? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.....No. These people on wall street care about nothing but lining their pockets, period. Watch the Wall Street episode of Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura and you will see several Wall Street bigwigs admitting that what they do rips off decent hardworking Americans and how its the Americans fault because we passed no laws to prevent it. You will also see how they have no remorse and pretty much say unless some laws are passed to stop them they will continue to do so. Scum, all of em, just like the US government.
What product does Wall Street produce that is of value? Do they farm the land? Do they actually manufacture a product that is useful?
No, they manipulate money, they raise the price of your gas, the grains that make your bread, the corn that goes into you corn flakes on something called 'speculation'. Yes, that's hard work all right.
seakat - actually thats not entirely true. Although futures prices fluctuate up and down the price of the actual commodity will react to demand and external forces such as weather and the supply being produced, shipped and distributed. Soybean futures index will rise and fall based on rumor and speculation but if you look at the actual price of soybeans it will react naturally to how much there is to distribute or how good a yield the crop actually has.
When the Hunt brothers tried to corner the silver market back in the 80s, they drove the price of silver futures through the roof (although much lower than it is now). The actual price of physical silver didnt rise enough to make it difficult for people to buy and sell jewelry and silverware sets because the futures price eventually settled back and everyone was happy.
Banking is necessary and as long as its done with some degree of morality it is a good job. If not, the actual price of goods with the possible exception of crude oil, will be at a fair level when its in the marketplace.
Banking is necessary and as long as its done with some degree of morality it is a good job. If not, the actual price of goods with the possible exception of crude oil, will be at a fair level when its in the marketplace.
First of all there is NO morality to money. None. Money is a mechanism not a creature. Overlaying morality on money is like expecting multiplication tables to operate on the basis of some morality.
Simple banking, deposits, lending, etc are a good and necessary function. But banks should never have been allowed to engage in speculation and derivatives gambling...in fact, no one should. Neither of things provides society at large with any advantages, rather they are inherently destructive except to those directly involved in siphoning off the wealth of actual producers
I wish more people would bother to watch "The Secret of OZ" documentary available on youtube (or at http://deeperwants.com/ratboys_anvil_2/2011/09/the-secret-of-oz.html) which thoroughly describes the how the plutocrats through history have used centralized banking to produce a debt-economy such as ours today to steal the wealth of nations.
Did you know that such centralized banks have been overthrown 4 times since the beginning of the US because the population got clued into the theft they represent?
Ask yourself this...why is it that private banks are allowed to be the sole issuers of US currency and not the government itself?
Why does the government have to borrow its own currency at interest charged by the private owners of the Federal Reserve and why is the Federal Reserve owned privately?
Watch the documentary and you will understand what is going on and how we got to this economic dilemma we are in.
How about the ones that went to school, and are still pushed around by the big banks?
That is what happens when you get into debt. you don't own a house until there is no mortgage you don't own a car if you have a car loan. all you are doing is renting to own.
NOW come on your college says you will make 1 million more then us so start working. I have no problems getting a job that will pay me 45K or more And I can get one any time any place. I love making 60K but you pay a lot in taxes.
Hey, David K..........Maybe if you went back to school you could learn how to write!!!
Some people never learn that school in not in sesion here. Do you think this is counted as a grade? or for a job interview? Most College kids use Office to correct grammar. Have you ever heard that the US English is a class 5 language? Perhaps you should go to school and learn how to comprehend.
I graduated High school with a third grade level in reading and spelling. I had a comprehension level of a sophomore in College. I have taught myself how to read. Spelling is harder. But I have never had any issue with getting a job or being in debt so bad I can't pay it. I can get a job any where any time in hours.
In all reality why would ANY employer WANT to hire these people??
mygirl - please define the terms capitalism, crony-capitalism, plutocracy and plutocratic corporatism. If you are unable to do so, please stop reading off the anarchists talking point sheet that some other radical handed you and begin to think for yourself.
We got along just fine without Wall Street in the beginning and capitalism worked when everyone actually worked........now capitalism is not working because Wall Street figured out how to make all their money off of our work.....maybe Wall street was not such a good idea after all?
Q.) How does the RIght wing get people like David to identify with Wall Street millionaires and billionaires?
A.) By feeding them a disgusting anti-Muslim, anti-gay, anti-science, anti-immigration, anti-flag burning, anti-Union gruel and convincing its filet mignon - and for dessert a piece of pie (in the sky, of course.)
There certainly are some people who gain money at the expense of others, but there's also thousands of self-made millionaires in this country. Why don't some of the protesters look at what those people did right, and try to become successful?
It's the same as the schoolyard bullies who always picked on the smart kids. Instead of figuring out how to bring up their own grades, they just picked on those who were more successful than they are.
Sciencenow, my posting at # 2.9 was supposed to be here in reply to your #3.
It is a dishonor to capitalist risk-takers to lump those hard-working self-made millionaires who risk capital to create useful goods and services in with the corporate money manipulators of Wall Street who create nothing of value and couldn't meet a payroll if it showed up on their spread sheets.
Sorry but you still have a lot to learn. After the first Depression regulations were put in place so that it would not happen again, they worked fine for about 40 years and then along came Reagan and those following him with deregulation, privatization stuff the courts, and appoint do nothing people to the agencies set up to protect the people, of yes and destroy the unions. So, that's where we are now AND it is about time some people waked up and protested in Wall Street and elsewhere. We are now a class society and we will remain a class society until the citizens of this country wake up to the fact that corporations, oil companies, and those who benefit from them, mostly the wealthy 1 percent. The fact that we are not generating jobs is because the trickle down theory simply does not work and they keep trying to sell it to us by saying taxing the wealthy and the corporations will destroy jobs, Bullpucky, that is what is destroying jobs. Additionally, we need to cut that enormous military budget and use the money to repair our failing infrastructure across this country--that will create jobs. Government is needed but ours has been, I fear, mostly bought by corporations, the military, and big agriculture subsidies.
If we had publicly funded elections we could regain our government and have it working for all the people not just the wealthy. We could get public funding state by state. Some states have it. It is very cheap compared to what we are paying through the nose.
I hope many will join the protest, and I mean many. There may be a few socialist strung among them, but I want to see many U.S. citizens out there taking back their government. Overturn the Americans United decision by the Supreme Court; that was a terrible decision by a loaded court. We deserve better and we are losing our democratic form of government. Stand up, Stand up, stand up, I want America to be a strong democracy, not a class society and a third world country. Some are trying hard to make us into just that.
College graduates can't get jobs because the jobs aren't out there. Some of you haven't awakened to the fact that this is a situation that has been created in some cases intentionally. In others, out of greed and ignorance to the real impact on society of what their greed produces. Study history people, you will learn a great deal.
There certainly are some people who gain money at the expense of others, but there's also thousands of self-made millionaires in this country. Why don't some of the protesters look at what those people did right, and try to become successful?
Believe it or not becoming a millionaire isn't the goal of every person out there. And believe it or not the title millionaire is nothing anymore when we have billionaires (400 of them...google it) becoming the new norm. Research and I mean really dig in and research them.
Money, beyond not having to worry about medical care, food on the table, a comfortable home in a safe neighborhood, being able to afford and pay for my utilities has never been my goal. And now the powers that have run this country for decades are taking the little bit I was happy with away.
Our society, OUR America has been seriously compromised and trampled on. Our elections are bought and paid for as are the candidates. Every candidate on the GOPTP platform with perhaps the exception of Bachman and Huntsman knows how the game is played. When you really start to research it's mind blowing to see what has and is going on. And somehow you end up dead should you try to bring the corruption to light.
Thank God for Bill Gates and the computer. Until "they" try to block our usage and information the whole ugly truth is there to see.
No, I'm not some kind of conspiracy nut. I'm just an average American who has woken up to some very ugly truths. God, please bless America!
The ones doing the investment purchases were taking calls from their clients who wanted to know what was going on and if they should be concerned. The response was probably "We don't know whats going on"
Same happened the day "after" Wall Street was bailed out, and the Wall Street gals were even smoking cigars and drinking cognac.
Similiar to GM's bailout.....after they received taxpayer money, videos surfaced of the Union workers drinking on their "break" time. Really want to buy that GM vehicle after one of these guys put it together ?
Are these the big corporations that obammy bailed out they are protesting??? Is this the wall street that is always getting special funding??? So what are you really protesting the special payoffs or the potus???
Still drinking the toxic juice I see. Is this your messiah that has cut the restrictions on the clean air and forced the epa to back off?? Is this the same messiah that is going ahead with the trans contential pipeline that all you tree huggers hate?? You are such a failure only worse than him because you still will follow blindly baa baa little sheep.
Chuck, employing 4th grade arithmatic the Mayor of New York would then need 1 million police officers for a 1000 person protest. Might I suggest Math for Dummies?
Bayonets affixed, the American right wing violently compels the middle class, the last sorry remnants of the long-dead Progressive dream, to vacate the relative security of the aged cattle cars. A fowl, acrid smoke fills the air with an unfamiliar and nauseating stench as the nation's producers are forcefully marched toward the camp. "Shnell, shell!" a guard shouts while prodding a once proud worker with the business end of his rifle. Blows are distributed liberally and at random amongst the defeated crowd lest they forget who is in charge. The battered and rag-tag mass passes through a wrought iron gate beneath a sign which declares with ominous finality "Welcome to Wall Street, Arbeit macht Frei"
Pathetic... from the pictures it loos like a "big" rally. Of course if they were conservatives they would be labeled Nazis. These pathetic losers should look for a job instead of a handout.
Hey.. did Michael Moore show up?
I guess this was the best MSNBC could pull up for a weekend.
No, this is the best that corporate owned media wants you to see.
This isn't a "rally". Its a full-blown protest, and there are TENS of thousands there. Not the "hundreds" that CNN reports, or the "thousand or so" that MSNBC is reporting in this "story".
Its pretty pathetic when Al Jazeera reportts it more accurately than the news outlets right down the street from where this is going on:
The above link has a live video feed since the MSM can't be bothered to cover a story right down the street from them. They don't want to interrupt the prison shows I guess LOL
I hate pathetic ploys to grab media attention and then have it trumped up as a big deal. They want to protest.. find.. knock you socks off. However, even to the most casual observer, that this looks like another "paid protest" from the left.
For the last three years we have had to endure the white House trying to incite class-warfare.. this is the best they could come up with? Looks like an Ed Crump event.
proudamerican...get a life and get off your judgmental without facts high horse. If you're sincerely proud of being an American, you would recognize that the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right of peaceful protest; including views with which others don't agree. And, your statement that someone is paying for these individuals to gather to protest is made without any foundation or proof. It is well known that right-wing groups are funded by the Koch brothers to engage in disruptive actions including their funding of the swift-boat attack upon a veteran who risked his life for America.
Certainly Alan, because Al Jazeera wouldn't have any interest in providing an anti-American bias to their reporting. It wouldn't at all be in their interest to portray Wall Street as being besieged by thousands of protesters. Why are you so willing to believe that American media outlets are biased but have not a thought that an Islamic media outlet might be biased?
joemike404 step outside the box, they are all biased. I watch Al-Jazeera and US news. Its rather interesting to see everyones take. I only watch FOX for the laugh factor however. They go beyond biased to outright fabrication.
I hate pathetic ploys to grab media attention and then have it trumped up as a big deal. They want to protest.. find.. knock you socks off. However, even to the most casual observer, that this looks like another "paid protest" from the left.
Umm, I hate to burst your bubble proudamericanjackass, but if you'd actually pay attention to what goes on around you, you'd realize politicians on BOTH sides of the political spectrum oppose protests, and use the police to clamp down on protesters. They're ALL part of the whole deal about "protest areas" and "free speech zones."
Why? Because they don't want to lose their "campaign contributions" and "lobbyist kickbacks." No one in government has a GD spine anymore. They can't see past the billions of dollars they get from Corporate America. (Hey, maybe THAT'S why the rich get away with not paying taxes.)
Actually, I take that back. Obama seems to be man enough to see past his own wallet. To even put a law in the books about taxes on the rich is a feat in itself. I've no doubt it will be struck down by the same people who own stock in the wealthiest corporations in America, but still, it's an effort.
Oh my. From Texas .. and a place with no local place to stand up, this action is so needed. Greedy folks on Wall Street lost up to 40% of "non-urban" Texans' retirement dreams. and about the same for everyone else in the country. You folks have a place to represent us all. Thanks... so much thanks... Mucho gracias.
Yes, and I hope you are going to go out there and join them, not just sit at home and let someone else do your job. I'm out there doing my job everyday and I'm 85 years old and I need some younger helpers. Protesting is very American and as long as it is peaceful and nonviolent it is democracy in action.
This is needed all across the country, and then maybe some of those legislators(?) might wake up and pay a little attention to their constituents instead of the stream of money from corporations, military contractors big agriculture after unneeded subsidies, and the promised jobs after the leave Congress working as lobbyists for those very corporations, military contractors, and big Agri.
And just where is Sarha palinwho's been denouncig "crony capitalism" left and right? She shoud be there shouting "Hell no" in the canyons of wall Street.
Theytalka great game but they won't go there. Tim Pawlentypromised to take his message to Wall Street , but when he did he went tothe Coumcil of Foreign relations to make a speech right inthe heart of the fianical district-but he couldn;t find the words to talkabout "designed tofail securities".
I am disabled (heart failure) and I have been planning on attending the October 6 demonstrations in D.C. It will be a real financial hardship but WE must do something to reclaim our government. One poster said that by protesting capitalism we are not protesting our (corporo-fascist) government. IMO, that is not true. The banksters own our government. This is the same as a D.C. protest. I wish that all of us were given advanced notice. The 1000 demonstrators are nothing compared to the majority of Americans who want to end this Feudalism. 400 "Americans" own more wealth than the bottom 1.5 million, that is not a bunch of losers wanting a hand-out. The wealthy are getting billion$ in handouts. They live obscenely indulgent lives while 10,000 Americans die each year from lack of health care. "We" are involved in wars all over the world (not just Iraq and Afghanistan) and "we" spend more money on "defense" (?) than all of the rest of the world COMBINED. We have the largest number and percentage of people in prisons than any other country (including China). Most of "our" prisons are privately owned and pay the politicians and judges to increase prison sentences. We are slaves. We do not have a Democracy (or Democratic Republic) we have capitalism, it is our system of government. I want my grandchildren to have a chance. I am no deadbeat or lazy. I am educated, as are my children. I retired from the Carpenters Union after suffering multiple heart-attacks trying to help after Katrina. America has become the pariah of the world.
There are so many people, who are unaware of the multidimensional nature of the corruption that this protest is spotlighting. I encourage the police to hear the claims of these protesters, and to start investigating this corporate greed firsthand instead of "policing" the good citizens who say enough is enough.(Remember who you serve.)
This is an acorn that's going to grow into an oak. Stay on this story. Finally the media is talking about the right thing: how banks and corporations are stealing the wealth we create.
Couldn't agree more, about this evolving in to something big. Something needs to be done before the middle class American no longer exists. The politicians only seem to care about what's best for their pocket book and not the people of this country that voted for them. The rules need to be changed. So, that corporations don't run this country. But, we the people. We need a strong middle class for a strong America. Wall street has forgotten that.
It's about time someone woke up to what has been going on for a very long time. Now vote all the Republicans, especially all the old ones out of office. Send the Tea Party with all their ignorant wisdom of condoning slavery back to Boston harbor and let the Congress get on with completing their work.
Yes independent let's send all the Republicans packing and I assume replace them with nice compliant Democrats. Obama would then be completely free to order the Congress to pass the 2 trillion dollar Stimulus 3. Then everything will be better. We will of course pay for Stimulus 3 by increasing the taxes on 0.3% of the American public.
When I found out that General Electric paid less taxes than I did last year and recently moved their entire xray division to China.... that was when I decided to become an activist!
The first step is to close all the loopholes that allows crap like this to happen! General Electric's CEO is one of Obama's biggest contributors and is actually on Obama's Committee for Job Creation!!! What's wrong with this picture?
No wonder Obama is liked so much in China, he's creating jobs there!!!
That is saying a lot. Since Reagan had THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE removed, the "news" ( which is owned by the wealthy corporations) does not report on what is happening to the real Americans. Reagan said, "the content of network news should be determined by the free market." Translation; the truth is now being sold to the highest bidder. It is amazing, our tee vee and educational system have been used to make our populace uninformed serfs. We do not have a free market. everything is monopolized, there is NO competition. FOX "news" was sued by it's own employees because they were forced (before they were fired) to report lies and omit facts. The FL courts said that "news programs have no obligation to be honest." When THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE was the rule, Americans were considered the best informed citizens in the world. Now we are the worst informed. If you want the truth, you have to watch foreign news or purposely obscured independent news sources like FREE SPEECH T.V.
You honeslty think youtube can be used as credible evidence regardless of the situation?
I see there is no mention of someone saying something about "second admendment remedies" or several other inflamatory remarks from the other side of the aisle. Why is that?
You can't pretend only one party slings mud. That would be dishonest. Wouldn't it?
Well it’s sounds like it went peaceful enough and that is what we need peaceful demonstrations until the government starts serving the people instead of being whores to the lobbyists. My fear is that they might send some agent provocateurs to cause trouble or trouble makers themselves will just take it as opportunity. This is the price of freedom we have been sleeping for so long that we going to now have to learn how to defend it, but it seems people all over the world are waking up, what happens next is anyone’s guess.
During the '60's and 70's "agent provocateurs' were employed by our government (state and federal) to create violence and blame it on the citizens. This allowed them to protect us from the terrorist citizens. We must be peaceful, "they" will become violent to protect the status quo (money and greed). "We" spend more money than all other nations COMBINED on weapons. If we allow this to devolve into a violent protest we will be killed. The R/W would love that. You usually must be a sociopath to become a CEO or a politician. We could save this country if people like Bernie Sanders (or Bernie himself) became our President.
You can focus on something all you want, but it accomplishes nothing. Do you really think any of the execs on wall street looked at this group standing around and even cared? If you care about an issue this serious, your actions should reflect that.

Actually, nothing scares the rich in our country or the politicians MORE than the thought of civil unrest....it has happened over & over again through the course of history, and can certainly happen here given the right conditions.
“Got your head in the sand have you. You have no idea what it may accomplish yet, it is not near over.”
I think we already know what it accomplished. Some Cops are going to get over time, some “radicals” will have more stories to tell about their march on Wall Street, Michael Moor or some other moron will make a documentary about it, the workers on Wall Street will barley hear about it and the “rich” who were the targets will be joking about it at the club.
If these idiot protesters devoted half the energy they spend on hating the “rich” to something productive they would be much better off. Perhaps learning a productive skill. There is very little money in being a professional protester and the retirement pay for protesters sucks.
BTW to the jerk with the sign saying “We are the People” well guess what I am the people too, so are the rich. The people are all of us and the majority of The People disagree with your protesting.
Read the polls John, the Majority of Americans do agree, that is why they elected President Obama, for change. That did not work out real well, he has a (D) behind his name but an (R) in his heart. He (at first) did get some legislation passed (parts of "Obamacare") that will eventually help people. It does away with "pre-existing conditions," allows young people to keep their parents health insurance longer, etc.. In the end it was for-profit insurance reform and even though it did not address our need for universal health care (like ALL of the other first world nations have) it is providing a little relief for Americans while maintaining huge profits for the insurance barons. Yes, the majority of Americans are tired of being put way behind profits and if the corporate owned polling industry is admitting that, then it is much larger than reported. Maybe the "heritage foundation" polls report different results, since they are founded, owned and controlled by the wealthy "conservatives" however even their polls show that Americans are fed up (by a lower margin, of course). John, you and your country club buddies are not the majority.
I've been wondering when this was going to start. Mayor Bloomberg has just announced that there would be riots in the streets...how astute! It is only a matter of time before it happens. It was reported today by CNN that student debt has risen 511% since 1999, just one of the sparks that can light the fire. The richest 2% in this country now own more than 150,000,000 of the rest of us combined. I wrote in a piece last year, "If they take all our jobs, take all our homes, and limit our educations, what kind of third-world country will we be in ten years?" Unfortunately, it's happening much faster than that! The march on Wall Street today may just be the beginning of our "American Spring"!

The corporatocracy era is at an end, it’s time to reestablish a true democracy...it’s time to create a country once again run by the People. This will be big.
How stupid are you ? Or have you forgotten payroll taxes like medicare and.ssi. What about property taxes which are paid indirectly thru rent? Or how about sales taxes, gas taxes and other regressive taxes that impact the poor and middle class. You sir are are complete moron..Please go FOX News for further whack job talking points!
Independent quit spouting Faux News - the 47% who pay no income taxes have no income to pay it on - however they pay sales tax - gasoline taxes - maybe property taxes - so please cut your crap and by the way - they do pay taxes on Social Security - if they have a job
I too am a veteran. Which party do the Bankers and Wallstreeters generally support?
Proud veteran, I am also confident that you are proud of the republican party offering consideration of legislation to end military retirement and to revert the military health care away from government and into the private.
Proud veteran. The new America is coming at you like a freight train under full steam and the tea folk locked the pressure bar down. Are you ready?
Thanks for your service. Look to the campaign contributions from Wall Street and big corporations before you give us your answer. Also look to the fact that GE, who shipped 18,000 jobs overseas last year paid no tax on a 14 billion dollar profit and in fact received 3.7 billion in a refund. Odd, since their CEO Jeffrey Immelt, is also Obama's Jobs Czar. Of course Obama's Energy Czar is also the CEO of Exxon Mobil, another corporate giant that escaped paying taxes.
Look to the fact that the three richest men in this country: Warren Buffet, George Soros, and Bill Gates are all big Onbama supporters and contributors.
Of course Soros also controls NBC, NYT, Media Matters, NPR, Move On.Org and Newsweek.
No Kochs-Coors-Murdochs-Hunts,Hearsts-Scaife and a hell of a lot more.
So you think Soros, Buffet, and Gates would be true patriots is they'd supported the War For Profit Folk? The deregulate more the banks crowd? The "Let the Markets be Markets" group? And I wanta drill everywhere so I can charge you more folk?
Ain't that been the deal for the past ten years at least?
And, I know the money moves. My concerns is why it moves where and for what reason.
Has it ever occurred to anyone that the ultra rich controls both parties like dancing puppets using divisive politics and propaganda to distract and confuse while they laugh all the way partying together.....
End the campaign bribery, lobbying, special interest, paid for politician system
I'm all over that! What an American dream that would be! Both parties may be controlled but at this moment in history we need to fight the most oppressive THEN we can look at where we are and carry on.
One week after JFK said he wanted to end the FED, he was assassinated. America is undoubtedly a criminal enterprise. The FED is a privately owned (by a very few people, some are American) bank that prints money and loans it to our government at a huge profit. "We" in turn, "loan" that money to the TBTF banks for no interest.
We NEED another FDR. Bernie Sanders fits those shoes. If he will not primary President Obama, we ned to organize a successful write-in campaign. Politicians willing to fight for the people and what is fair, are "scarce as hens teeth." His election could save a lot of bloodshed, American and foreign. I have been watching him for 20+ years. The only time he disappointed me was when he fell for President Obama's plea's during the insurance reform legislation. He really believed that he was helping Americans then also, he was mislead. That does not happen to him (once) he is a seasoned politician (I don't trust most politicians), like most Americans he fell for the promises of our President. I believe that affected him more than any of his votes. He is a TRUE AMERICAN.
The Banksters are laughing right now, because the presently own the government. It would appear that many of you posters don't realize what the Bansters have been doing. It is easy to pay yourself a $100,000,000 salary when you stole it from the retail investors and 401K holders. If one were to look at their 401 K, many would think they are doing okay. Unfortunately, what they don't realize is that it is based on stocks that have been sold over and over. Please look into short sales and the number of shares that have been shorted in some of your favorite companies. It somewhat scary. Now what happens when the banks that shorted the shares go belly up. Do you think cover? No... Those shares just continue to float around. Do you really think the shares shorted by Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers were ever covered.
Glass-Steagall should have never been overturned, and the big banks need to be broken up.
I hope that another 99,000 show up before Monday. Perhaps that will get someones attention.
Twenty years ago we had 17 banks that owned all of the other large banks. Now there are four. How long (at this rate) before there is one only? We do not have a "free market." When Glass-Steagal was overturned, monopolies became legal (among many other unfair practices). How can there be a "free-market" when there is no competition?
1,000 people showed up? Should have been 100 million. Every person who has taken a hit, lost their job, paid more for basic staples should have been there. You know, candy bars are a dollar since 911!
The nation as a whole should shut itself down until those who claim to be in charge tell us why a dolt on Wall Street or those Bankers deserve $100 + million a year but a police officer or firefighter, or teacher at $40-60 k a year is a burden on the society.
Besides. Supply Side Economics has made the Banks Too Big To Succeed! As Clint Eastwood said once, "The hell with those guys."
Those supposed "dolts" make a lot of money for others, who in turn keep other businesses going, which employ people, so that is why companies are willing to pay them those salaries. Simply put, they EARN them, as companies are willing to PAY them that for their services and expertise. Do you also begrudge athletes their pay? People get paid what the companies think their services are worth, and that's how the system works. Want to make more? GET THE RIGHT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE, and don't give up until you do!!
kraussk - who's feeding you your info? What businesses does Wall Street keep going name me one! And what are the right skills? I guess all of our scientists and teachers and nurses and doctors and whatever should become Wall Street Tycoons - with reasoning skills like yours we truly would be doomed - next time you need a Cat Scan call your favorite Hedge Fund Guy
kraussk, you know very well that when the market crashed in 08 the losses came out of the small investor and his 401K first..........the big guys who caused it got theirs out first.....wall street needs to be shunned and brought under controll.
barry barry....wa wa wa...should not eat candy bars anyways....that's what you liberals tell us in the public schools. I am surprised you don't support a candy bar tax.
anyone else think the paid trolls on here are getting nervous? Drill baby drill it's a good thing you don't get paid by the word or for making an intelligent comment 'cause you're just too lazy to do either.
Yeah kraussk, Your statement sounded so official. However, I know that you know that too often the crappola is the officialdom. You know, cut and cover.
Drill Baby Drill: Uh---------------------------yeah right. Don't let the moss cloud your way to the moss pile.
anyone else think the paid trolls on here are getting nervous?
They have been nervous for a long time, they know they are fighting a losing battle thats why they avoid the issues and just spew hate and childish insults. It`s impossible to take people like that seriously.I put them on ignore, because after seeing them spam the same nonsense over and over i know that they will never post anything of substance and they aren`t interested in discussing the issues.
What we need is Capitalism that works for all and not just a handful of connected people.
Make that happen and Capitalism can work for everyone and not just a handful.
Start with the Trucking industry, break up the Corporate Trucking Companies and make it easier for drivers to own their own trucks then move onto Walmarts, Banking etc...
The problem is the people that should be speaking out play along with the corruption. They try to make like everything just happens and nothing is planned or conspired.
I have felt for a long time this would happen' big corporations at wall st has helped drive gas prices up and many other commodietys and all at the same time they are pouring money into Washington politicians and the super committee to buy favoritism. It just is not right and there should be a law against it. Its blatenly rubbing poor peoples face in the dirt. In my view they are no better than a common thief.
Don, buddy, gas is priced as supply and demand dictates, and the ability of companies to make donations to those that will help their causes is part of the way this country works. If you don't like it here, try China or North Korea, or better yet, actuallt get involved in the political process and see what it takes to have laws changed if you don't like them.
No....gas is priced based on crude oil prices. Crude oil is a futures commodity. Futures markets have little to do with current supply and demand....they are highly based on speculation but can easlily be manipulated and falsely inflated. There was no gasoline shortage back in '07 and '08 when prices were as high as $4.50 per gal. Prices were obscenely inflated by the futures traders. This is why the markets need to be regulated.
PWD........proof? Look at the price of fuel.......as the barrel price drops the pump price stays the same. All kinds of excuses to wait for the next crisis to occur to raise them even more.........
oh the evil speculators! who are speculators anyway? People who trade futures (which is a zero sum game by the way) make money depending how they bet. They can bet up down or sideways. For every speculator that wins one loses. The idea that speculators "run up the prices" is nonsense. If they could, why wouldn't they "run down the prices" since they make money on volatility (up or down), not whether the commodity goes up or down. Speculator "bets" are a response to changes in the market, basically the anticipation of the future supply and demand curve. What kills me is the cry to "regulate Speculators"....exactly what would you regulate?
you can say the same for States, County's, Cities an school boards but it called Projection of Growth Raise taxes today to build tomorrow Infrastructure same thing as speculators on goods an oil Every state need a balance budget amendment along with the Federal government an have everyone of that state vote on risen taxes in that state, county, city or school board or the entire United State to vote on Federal taxes an spending, all those federal laws that were not voted in by the People of the United States are unconstitutional The Republic of the United States is a Government Of the People For the People By the People not are Professional career liberal or rhinos politicians .Good day
PWD, would proof change your mind? Hell no! just in case look it up, google or bing..whatever. Look up the results of Senate investigations leaked to media by Senator Bernie Sanders, 2 weeks ago. He had to "leak" it because "they" would not let it be made public. It is there to read. Why do all of "you neo-cons" have the inability to research or read?
I thought it was the libruls who were lazy. Some of it was even "reported" in the WSJ.
I love the people trying to downplay the size of this protest. CNN reported it in the hundres. MSNBC says thousands. Do you honestly expect the corporate owned news organizations to honestly report on this, or try to downplay it as much as possible? I would suggest anyone that actually wants information on this to look to foreign news agencies.
Man, if it weren't for me being poor/having classes, I would be there right along with them. To the protesters, know that there are 100 times more people who are with you in spirit!
So you're going to classes to get your degree, so you can graduate, get a job, and buy right into the same corrupt system that these people are protesting? Doesn't sound like you're with them in spirit at all, actually. If you were, you'd quit school and come up with some way to get to NYC and stand with them.
(I watched live feeds of this event earlier. A thousand is about right. WAY less once it got dark and people started discussing where they were going to spend the night.)
Let's all join together and take back our country, get rid of the corporate control of our government. Go to "OCTOBER2011.ORG" and then commit yourself to being part of the change. JOIN US in the effort to save this country and stop the wars!
The US military is the strong arm of world corporate interestes that care only about money and control. Wake up! Get involved! Do it for your children and grandchildren.
Sparky, being educated makes you a better person/citizen. Hopefully it enables to think and reason. At least it used to. I am a retired Union carpenter who holds 3 degrees unrelated to my occupation. I earned those decades ago and they have helped me in every way. Try it.
Just because they are pricing "higher education" out of the affordability of average Americans, if there is any way to get it, do so. It doesn't make you a "sell-out," even an MBA can open your eyes.
Where has the DOJ been on investigating Mr. Lerner and his associates ? To overthrow our way of life is TREASONOUS.
Wait a minute.....Mr. Obama's agenda is SEIU's agenda:
Much smaller countries have million man protests and in this country we manage to get a 1000 to protest? Our corrupt officials are not scared of a 1000 man protest, we need millions out there.
Question? Why did they do this on a Saturday? Nobody but the peons are down there................
i hope it was super extra crunchy too, lol. you can blame wallstreet... personally it isny just wallstreet... wallstreet is small potatoes compaired to what the government has raped the American people for. but then... try telling the crazy parrots that once, lol.
Yep, let's see what Mr. Lerner and his group does during this "peaceful demonstration" to "overthrow capitalism" and what this Administration and the DOJ's responses are.
Further, the DOJ might want to do an investigation on the California scholar.
Unhappy Americans need not seek the violent overthrow of the US America government. There's a better way: the ballot and formation of another political party.
Is the demonstration in WallSt the beginning of "American Spring?"
Last time I checked, the ENTIRE United States was a free speech zone...
Ido,
I would think, thereby, that our own government is guilty of treason.
Judging by the photo the protestors all live in mommy's basement and play vidio games when they are not protesting something.
With people losing their homes and Republicans trying their best to destroy the unions ... if you didn't see this coming ... your brain dead!!!
I LAUGH!!!! everytime I read a thread from all you USA Loving morons that America is a FREE COUNTRY and they HATE THE USA FOR IT'S FREEDOM.
Never have belonged to a union I have never needed one to get a job or negotiate my pay.
That is why when by brother is not even done with College he is getting teaching offers.
When their PSP battery runs down they can call mommy to bring battery's.
Why are there only a few people in each picture? Was the protest miniscule in size or were the photo journalists incompetent?
Its not only time to start protesting Wall Street, but every city and town in this country need to start protesting the Republican & Teaparty for NOT raising taxes on the wealthest(the so called job makers, BS) they enjoyed 10yrs of Bush tax cuts, all the loop holes. The middle class is drained and we can't afford to give anymore.
The American people are fed up and the wealthest need to pay their fair share, and NOW!
DO you want to loose the middle class tax cuts also?
When you have nothing you have nothing to lose....
It's about time something like this happened. I hope it's just a beginning. I was around in the 60's and early 70's and I had just about given up hope with this generation.
Although my feet may not be there on the ground my heart and soul are behind each and everyone one of you protesting! Power to the people!
Laura & rico, AMEN! The Tea Party's sure not going to like this! I'm hoping there will be many, many more protests like this.
Demonstrators in NYC,
GIVE THE WEALTHY RIGHT-WING CORPORATE SUITS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.
Laura, Rico and Allie,
You do understand that the TEA in TEA Party stands for Taxed Enough Already don't you? And you do understand that the TEA Party is largely a middle class anti-tax movement don't you? And you do understand that the TEA party opposes raising taxes on anyone don't you?
Hopefully this will be the beginning of something to really change the path we are on to corporate plutocracy and total bankster rule. Margaret Mead, a cultural anthropologist, writer and speaker, 1901-1978, said it best: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughful, committed citizens can change this world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Power to the people. From a tiny acorn, grows the mighty oak tree.
good luck with that.
Get a job instead. Hard working people succeed. Lazy people wanting MORE free stuff protest.

Take it to the Hill, not to the Street.
joemike404;
Why protest? Just close your 401K. Take the money and run!!!! That will show them who's boss!
lmao
@25walker;
That has been tried, and the truth is ALL our lovely politicians have been bought by special interest lobbyists. It is time for more drastic measures.
The protesters are probably rife with consumer goods, purchased from 'greedy' corporations.
It amazes me that the middle class willingly sacrifices their labor for the goods offered by 'greedy' corporations.
If they would work less and spend less, these middle class consumer protesters wouldn't have much to complain about.
Who's fault is it if I blow $800 (for which I had to earn $1200 at my job) on an Ipad?
Foolish consumer masses. Work yourselves to the bone and spend it all, then cry that corporations are taking money away from you.
That's what I see in those protesters.
Got my middle-class tax cut when I lost my middle-class job
How many iPods are in that crowd?
Who is wearing Nike shoes?
Levi's?
These protesters are funny. They decry "corporate greed" yet they are the reason for the corporate success they decry.
What they don't understand is that the "Arab Spring" had more to do with rising food prices than despotic rulers or oil.
AtlasWillShrug - Atlas not only shrugged, he left.
Very well said.
The mentality that another person's money is the right of the lazy is exactly oposite of what the country was founded on. When people protest that they deserve more from the wealthy while carrying a cell phones and wearing the latest sun glasses, we have a problem in the country.
Culheath-
You're right. The constitution does not grant the authority of the government to control the economy, nor implement any economic system. By this very absence, the only economic system allowed therefore is capitalism.
Kathryn Sullivan-
So then, you are for the opposite, which would be...?
We all need to keep our eyes open and watch that nothing "happens" to him.
Kathryn-
Here's a story of the evil greed.
Oh wait, he quit and didn't open the mine because the people in the area were fighting the mine's opening because of environmental concerns. Now these 125 people looking for work have none. I foresee more people going Galt because of the demands from the government and the people screaming "it's not fair!" What then will you do? Have you won?
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/right-out-of-atlas-shrugged-hear-an-exasperated-alabama-businessman-tell-the-feds-im-just-quitting/
LOL
They were very competent, a good photographer can compose a photo to make a small crowd look big and a big crowd look small , it just depends on which image the Editor decides to use, and obviously the Editor wanted to make this look like a small thing. Once again the Press manipulates what we see and hear.
@Atlas
Please.....
God bless these people! I hope a million show up!
@ Really
I read Atlas Shrugged and many of her other works 50 years ago, starting at about 12yrs. It's like something you get over, y'know.
Eventually you grow up and realize the world is not black and white and that there are other people in it.
You are so wrong Atlas will Shrug.
Culheath-
You're an intelligent individual; you should understand this. Socialism, communism, and fascism rely heavily on state ownership of the factors of production. The constitution makes no mention of state ownership of the factors of production; therefore eliminating all but capitalism. If you want to change it, change the constitution.
You repeated my point. See above.
Yes, and people tend to look after their own self interest first. Even liberals with their overabundance of "generosity" do this.
The Kennedy clan took great pains to ensure that they paid no taxes, yet they worked hard to ensure that the rest of us did.
Atlas will Shrug
Would this be one of those mines where people develop black lung disease and then don't have medical insurance to cover it?
Would it be one of those mines that collapse on the workers because safety issues aren't a concern of the owner?
Happens EVERY day around the world. This is not PROGRESS
This is not 1920, there is more government over site of the mining industry than any other.
OOOH, A THOUSAND PROTESTORS!
What was that, the day's entertainment?
Seriously, used to work on Wall Street. This is New York. You show up with 10 times that number or it isn't even news.
Fail.
rico12345-
The unions represent 12% of the workforce.
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone. I was once a teamsters member, I was once a self-labeled liberal...now I have awaken.
Really? you said the Corporations don't own the Government.LIKE HELL THEY DON'T!
These politicians are all bought and paid for High Priced Whores on both sides of the Aisle.
Where the hell have you been? Oh I know in never never land? The land where I don't have to face REALITY!
Oh and Derek,No that wasn't today's entertainment. That Derek is the Start of Something Big!Wakey,Wakey Derek, and the rest of You!
Derek-
The most ironic part of the protest against capitalism...
The food shops, coffee shops, etc are making a killing off these people. Bwaaahaaahaaa.
Gloria-
Quit blaming the corporations. They're not the ones who allow the lobbying. Our government has set up the pay to play system. Ban and punish lobbying for the politicians and the lobbyists. Then corporatism fails and true capitalism succeeds.
THAT should bother you more than anything!

Sorry AtlasWillShrug! No can do!I blame them all.
I am a middle of the road democrat. But, the "other side" has valid ideas as well, and I choose accordingly.
And it's going to get better.
THIS is "poverty" in the US.......
http://www.macon.com/2010/12/16/1379464/funding-cuts-leave-many-without.html
Look in the background of the picture of the woman complaining because she cannot get someone else to pay her electric bill.....LOL
That's what i'm talking about,,, a real protest where it counts.
Way to go you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wall street should just be turned into one big prison for all of the damage they have done to the world.
Way to go protesters!
oh sheeeesh....where to begin
Like I asked...what part of this isn't happening today? Fancy footwork but you didn't answer the question. You do understand do you not that the top 10% of earners own 90% of America? Money talks, buys campaigns and makes the rules. That my friend is life. You make it sound like it's so easy to get rid of the lobbyist etc. and it's not! People have died trying. And this 90% wants to put THEIR tax burden on ME?? What's that all about?
ABSOLUTLEY
I suggest that you google the name Danny Cassollara and start there.
President.
"It is well that the people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system,
for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning." -- Henry Ford
"The Federal Reserve banks are one of the most corrupt institutions the world has ever seen.
There is not a man within the sound of my voice who does not know that this nation is run by the International bankers." -- Congressman Louis T. McFadden (Rep. Pa)
the article should have started out....
Exsperts guess you will be hearing the screams of the Crazy Parrots even louder, when the time of crying about Wallstreet ends, and the call of nature begins.
that is how i think at least part of the article should have read...
whats the matter snake? feel you will no longer be entitled to sit and watch others work for you? libs and dems admitting now, after 4 years of commitee meetings and so on questioning their methods that have brought destitude to America, now willing to admit? little late dont you think?
meantime as i said earlier, SS is set to go belly up 2017 if something isnt done... that would mean the people capable of working will have to work. whats so bad about that? that means the people who have been putting in will recieve.... what part is so bad of all that? same goes for medicare/medicade.... you have something agaisnt the working class? or is it you feel those who work OWE you something so can can sit on your duff all day?
I Notice -
Two Wars to protect whose interest?
Big money and their lobbyists have too much influence on Congress.4 min. video

This is just a butch of Lazy people that think they can get little stoplight time. When if you research this it is put on by the UNIONS. They are after one thing get Boso re-elected that is the owny thing for this so call protest.
"Capitalism is barely contained greed"....
The banks were pressured by the government to issue loans to people who were marginal at best, and inept at worst.
So the public should cover you for the decisions you made? Only a liberal would think that success should be guaranteed.
Have you bee paying attention? It was Clinton who signed the repeal of the Glass-Steagall act. You might want to research it...... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass%E2%80%93Steagall_Act
Democrats could just as easily be inserted here.
Governments have NEVER represented the "people."
No thanks, I am not much of a "joiner." Too independent I guess.
Megaladon
There are regulations, and there are "regulations." The next time you are removing some paint in your home, you might want to research the "regulations" that cover that.
http://www.homeconstructionimprovement.com/new-lead-paint-law-effective-april-22-2010/
http://www.epa.gov/ttn/atw/area/paint_stripb.pdf
We are the MOST regulated society on earth. Some regulations are needed, but when you over regulate, you kill jobs and stifle innovation.
ENOUGH FULFILL ...."THE PROMISE"
@25Walker - Thank you for the Post #1.107
Don't buy into the misinformation that this is some "small group of dissenters".
It's MUCH bigger than that:

FOX, MSNBC, CNN, or any other media outlets won't be able to ignore this beyond tomorrow morning.
And for the history illiterates who can't seem to understand the significance of why this started on Saturday instead of during the work week:
Our constitution was signed on September 17, 1787. And so this date was chosen to begin these protests:
http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/us-constitution-signed
The basic premise of this movement is:
No more 'corporate personhood', and no more Wall Street money dictating 'winners and losers' at the expense of true democracy.
Isn't that what Warren Buffet recently did when he wrote in the New York Times that congress should stop coddling the rich and tax billionaires at the same rate as the middle class?
ModerationinAllThings
This is what "real America" is angry about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cG_TKAJyV6k
Apparently, MSNBC, FOX, and CNN only want you to be angry about what they "decide" you should be angry about.
"Fair and balanced"
"Lean forward"
"Keeping them honest"
These are the taglines they push in your face, knowing full well they don't even believe it themselves, while they sit in their studios ignoring whats happening right down the street.
They go against everything this country was founded to be.
paganbeliefs
i have met as many if not MORE people who milk the system than not. whats that telling you? i know personally these types of people who collect SSI, and are more than capable of working.

So does socialism.
So does capitalism in some respects (anti-trust rules and utility regulations)
Fascism is a political form not an economic one.
It's still a nonsensical premise.
You are also avoiding the fact that there mixed economies.
No it doesn't The Government has full control don't believe me start a factory in china they will have their own people controlling it you are just the puppet.
Try Sweden. There is a difference you know between communism and socialism.
Really?
Not for the ones remaining within economic chains.
Of course it is imposed. Lack of money means you go hungry. Make a buck and how much of that is taken away from you? A glut of workers means less demand and lower salaries. Shall I go on?
Within the framework handed down by the government.
Agreed!
Agreed.
Our Constitution may not impose an economic system, sort of. There is a greater framework which controls the Constitution. It is called the federal reserve which is an extremely unhealthy way of floating the elite of the elite. This is the worst part of capitalism which creates a system of utter GREED!
"Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes the laws."
- Mayer Amschel Rothschild
@Jacobs,
Thank you.
@culheath
Of the three economic systems, Capitalism, Communism and Fascism, Capitalism is the only one that is not imposed on society.
Regulation does not equal ownership or control. Regulations may be environmental or financial, but they do not impose such control in that they do not limit what a company can produce or sell. Communism/Socialism requires ownership, Fascism requires control.
3. Fascism requires private ownership, but government control of businesses.
Do some research.
Therefore, unless the Constitution imposes a system, Capitalism wins by default.
No it isn't. Unless a system is imposed on a people, they are free to do as they please. ONLY in a capitalist system is someone such as you or I allowed to create a business, be it a pet store, a delivery service or just mowing lawns, and operate it as we please within whatever regulations are in place if any.
Such as what China? That is the only system I am aware of that is transforming itself into a hybrid.
@Peter Jacobs
It makes perfect sense.
Those would be Communists and Fascists.
Of the three economic systems, Capitalism, Communism and Fascism, Capitalism is the only one that is not imposed on society.
2. Communism requires government ownership and control of businesses.
Agreed!
3. Fascism requires private ownership, but government control of businesses.
Agreed.
Therefore, unless the Constitution imposes a system, Capitalism wins by default.
"Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes the laws."

maybe if you went to college and wasn't lazy you could be wealthy. people who work on wall st. are hard working decent people who do work that no wants to do. go back to school or shut the hell up
How about the ones that went to school, and are still pushed around by the big banks?
No one wants to make a quarter mil a year shuffling papers?
managing peoples accounts ACTUALLY takes some skill..mathematics and accounting. people are stupid and need to grow up. stop labeling people who wake up early and work long hours as the culprits.
they stole, bribed, and manipulated...you idiot
Looks like you didn't go to college either.
david K:
Um Dave are you naive? A lot of them did go to College!Guess What Dave?THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY FREAKEN JOBS, um Dave!
Hey, David K..........Maybe if you went back to school you could learn how to write!!!
Mygirl - How about getting the money back that the Fed gave to foreign as well as U.S. banks. How about the Dept. of Justice bringing charges against the people that created the fraudulent schemes that almost brought down the world economy. How about those criminals go to jail. When is that going to happen?
david k-4069705
lmao here, you obviously don't get out much or read. tons of college students can't get a job because there are no jobs for them.
Good lord David K. You write as if you didn't graduate sixth grade. I certainly hope you do not include yourself as one of the entitled!
If that is the case there must not be much interest in the protest for the article said, I believe, only a thousand showed up.
EAT THE RICH!!!!!!!!
In all reality why would ANY employer WANT to hire these people??
That is the real question.
mygirl - please define the terms capitalism, crony-capitalism, plutocracy and plutocratic corporatism.
Instead of figuring out how to bring up their own grades, they just picked on those who were more successful than they are.
wow , hope they brought plenty of nooses, god bless and protect them
Sciencenow, my posting at # 2.9 was supposed to be here in reply to your #3.
Wall street employees were literally standing on their balconies sipping on champagne, looking down on and mocking the protesters.
#FvzMy
The ones doing the investment purchases were taking calls from their clients who wanted to know what was going on and if they should be concerned. The response was probably "We don't know whats going on"
Same happened the day "after" Wall Street was bailed out, and the Wall Street gals were even smoking cigars and drinking cognac.
Similiar to GM's bailout.....after they received taxpayer money, videos surfaced of the Union workers drinking on their "break" time. Really want to buy that GM vehicle after one of these guys put it together ?
Wall Street Employees don't have to worry. The Mayor will have a thousand of NYPD's finest out for each demonstrator to protect his investments.
Are these the big corporations that obammy bailed out they are protesting??? Is this the wall street that is always getting special funding??? So what are you really protesting the special payoffs or the potus???
car556, you are about the dumbest troll I've ever seen. You better stick to bailing out your boat that's sinking bud.....................
If your brother actually accepts a teaching position, my sincerest sympathies to him.
Know your enemy. The masters who keep us peasants, no matter how hard we work.
" Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Friday that the protesters have a right to be heard, as long as they do not interfere with others' rights. "
He stated this as he peeled off century notes from a wad deep from his pocket: "pizza for all."
Pathetic... from the pictures it loos like a "big" rally. Of course if they were conservatives they would be labeled Nazis. These pathetic losers should look for a job instead of a handout.
Hey.. did Michael Moore show up?
I guess this was the best MSNBC could pull up for a weekend.
You sit there and claim if they were Republicans, they would be labeled Nazis, and in your very next sentence you call the protesters pathetic losers.
Did you actually serve, or do you just hate the fact that people you don't agree with are exercising a Constitutional right?
No, this is the best that corporate owned media wants you to see.
This isn't a "rally". Its a full-blown protest, and there are TENS of thousands there. Not the "hundreds" that CNN reports, or the "thousand or so" that MSNBC is reporting in this "story".
Its pretty pathetic when Al Jazeera reportts it more accurately than the news outlets right down the street from where this is going on:
http://stream.aljazeera.com/story/us-protesters-rally-occupy-wall-street?utm_content=automateplus&utm_campaign=Trial6&utm_source=SocialFlow&utm_medium=MasterAccount&utm_term=tweets
This isn't going away. Its scheduled to last for at least two months.
https://occupywallst.org/
The above link has a live video feed since the MSM can't be bothered to cover a story right down the street from them. They don't want to interrupt the prison shows I guess LOL
I hate pathetic ploys to grab media attention and then have it trumped up as a big deal. They want to protest.. find.. knock you socks off. However, even to the most casual observer, that this looks like another "paid protest" from the left.
For the last three years we have had to endure the white House trying to incite class-warfare.. this is the best they could come up with? Looks like an Ed Crump event.
proudamericanveteran,
umm..... there was a "Conservative" group there that was singling the Star Spangled Banner LOL....
This isn't about "left or right".
Well I hope they weren't singing the Cindi Lauper version.
proudamerican...get a life and get off your judgmental without facts high horse.
If it were a thousand Tea Party supporters, Fixed News would be there with them to say how sweet the people are.
Even if it were 100 TP supporters, Fox would be out there claiming that it was 1000.
Loudamericaveteran's comment deserved to be collapsed. His corporate masters are proud of him, though. At least, that's what they tell him in public.
Stay on this story. This is an acorn that's going to grow into an oak. It's about time somebody had the courage to make something happen.
Bingo!
This is needed all across the country, and then maybe some of those legislators(?) might wake up and pay a little attention to their constituents instead of the stream of money from corporations, military contractors big agriculture after unneeded subsidies, and the promised jobs after the leave Congress working as lobbyists for those very corporations, military contractors, and big Agri.
serment du jeu de paume (1789)
Um, Wall Street was closed on Saturday........would'nt be too hard to "shut down". Lame. Weak. DOH!
Maybe you should re-read. They are gathering this weekend and plan on staying through to Monday morning to confront Wall Street. DOH
Pat-297145,
Do you seriously not know the significance of Saturday's date?
http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/us-constitution-signed
That is why Saturday was chosen as the first day.
Well I agree its a little nutty.
What's nutty is not doing anything.
Yes, I have no doubt that ACORN is involved.
Wall Street hasn't forgotten....they planned it this way!
Somehow this isn't surprising. Americans might finally be waking up and realizing what a mess we're in.
It's about time someone woke up to what has been going on for a very long time. Now vote all the Republicans, especially all the old ones out of office. Send the Tea Party with all their ignorant wisdom of condoning slavery back to Boston harbor and let the Congress get on with completing their work.
Congress complete their work? If that happens...we're all going down the drain when they flush.
More than a thousand?! That's it? Come on people you can do better than that.
Wait it gets better!Give it time!
I never mentioned the Tea Party. Why are you suggesting I was?
Last I checked though, all politicians use intimidation, fear and ignorance as tools of manipulation regardless what letter is after their names.
Oonline articles are saying 500,000 in the Wall St. area.
After that post, I hope you are out there yourself. I'm out there all the time.
Wooooooohooooooo Amy!!!!!!!!!
Go America GO!!!!!
As I told the Person above!Wait it gets better!
The problem with power is that it attracts the very people that shouldn't have it.
And this accomplished what exactly? I mean besides disrupting traffic.
To focus on the treasonous behavior that is going on Wall Street today
You can focus on something all you want, but it accomplishes nothing. Do you really think any of the execs on wall street looked at this group standing around and even cared? If you care about an issue this serious, your actions should reflect that.
Wait and see what happens next.
No, today was Saturday. I doubt many of them were even there.
Monday rolls around and they have to go back to school?
Got your head in the sand have you. You have no idea what it may accomplish yet, it is not near over.
No the majority doesn't disagree.....just maybe the top 10% who owns 90% of America.
Civil disobedience....the foundation upon which America was founded.

I have seen several re\posts before but never in the same comment. I think you need to work on your cut and paste skills.
I think it was worth posting twice.
The corporatocracy era is at an end, it’s time to reestablish a true democracy...it’s time to create a country once again run by the People. This will be big.
We can only hope.....and protest with them!
I wish the 47% who pay no federal income taxes would "pay their share."
They live in this country and get to vote. About time they step up to the plate and contribute.
A lot of them don't pay income tax because they live in poverty, they still pay sales tax.
I would pay it if my country needed me too. Would you? Or rather, will you?
And do you really think that's tea you're drinking?
you just need to fall through the cracks w/ the 47% and see what it's like to scrimp A..hole
Would be nice if those MILLIONAIRES who PAID NO INCOME TAX would pay something!!!!!
How stupid are you ? Or have you forgotten payroll taxes like medicare and.ssi. What about property taxes which are paid indirectly thru rent? Or how about sales taxes, gas taxes and other regressive taxes that impact the poor and middle class. You sir are are complete moron..Please go FOX News for further whack job talking points!
exactly!
I wonder how many of that 47% who pay no taxes are rich people who are exploiting loopholes in the tax laws to pay no taxes?
Independent quit spouting Faux News - the 47% who pay no income taxes have no income to pay it on - however they pay sales tax - gasoline taxes - maybe property taxes - so please cut your crap and by the way - they do pay taxes on Social Security - if they have a job
And the $ they got to pay sales etc. taxes came from????????
Tad,
They probably don't make enough money to have to pay Federal income tax, but everything they buy is taxed.
If they don't make enough to pay income tax they shouldn't be the target of your ridicule.
Read this and get enlightened.
This is why 47% of households owe no Federal Income tax and why it is just a misleading GOP/TP talking point.

LOL.. based on the 41 commets here we know who as at the "protest."
I would love to go but I can`t afford to, how`s that for irony?
Go protest locally friend. Organize one at you legislators door if they don't represent you.
This is NOT A LEFTIST AGENDA
It is a people over greed and the greedy agenda!
The stated two fold purpose of the protests are:
Break up the "too big to fail banks" and their cronies at the Fed
and
End the campaign bribery, lobbying, special interest, paid for politician system
Then you should have protested outside the White House.
Barry,
Thanks for your service.
Be careful who you call your "friends."
Destroy the rich. Destroy the right-wing.
What a brilliant, well-thought-out comment, Jerry. Typical leftist, Bozobama, class-envy crap that will get your bozo POTUS tossed in 2012.
Has it ever occurred to anyone that the ultra rich controls both parties like dancing puppets using divisive politics and propaganda to distract and confuse while they laugh all the way partying together.....
Thanks Tad...absolutely.
You're right on that one Tad!

Proof please to back the statement??
Don, buddy, gas is priced as supply and demand dictates, and the ability of companies to make donations to those that will help their causes is part of the way this country works. If you don't like it here, try China or North Korea, or better yet, actuallt get involved in the political process and see what it takes to have laws changed if you don't like them.
I'd say that's exactly what this protest is about.
kraussk
That is your opinion not proof,.
oh the evil speculators! who are speculators anyway?
If we want to save Capitalism it must be made to work again for everyone and not just a handful...
The president has said that over and over.
Please, we know what obama wants, as long as it doesn't touch his wallet
