When you try to have a conversation between well educated vs barely educated... it does not come out well. The Egyptian demonstrators attacked the Israeli embassy because Israeli soldiers "mistakenly" killed 5 Egyptian soldiers ... certainly tearing at the fabric of peace. One would think that Israel would be a bit more discerning considering Egypt has been its primary ally in the Middle East. US citizens have attacked and destroyed entire blocks for much, much less.

Television viewers and news readers need to be more circumspect and recognize that the news media focuses on one small aspect of reality ... it's not the entire reality.

The United States guarantees freedom of speech. Egyptians just won this right. Yes, some Egyptians are overly excited to exercise it. But how is that different from the US in the 1960s? It's easy to point the finger at someone else. What is that old saying ... do as I say, not as I do?

It has never failed to bite us in the behind when we try to "bring democracy" to anyplace there. We should stick to supporting our allie there and let the rest clean themselves out in the inevitable wars among people who can't even get along with others of another sect of their own religion.
The bad part for us is the increase in danger to us from these fanatics. Violence seems to run in the blood of some tribes and groups. Often it takes removal by several generations from the place of origin for this to change.
Libya will be no different and no one has said yet if they found the chemical weapons he had. Say what you want about Gadaffi, he had kept things quiet in his country for years now and had voluntarily given up this nuclear weapons. Now instead we will have chaos and who knows what in the end.
The attack on Afghanistan was in response to thier being the base for Osama Bin Laden. I can't say I totally understand the agression in Iraq, except that their leader had shown his bent toward aggression in trying to take over Quait. Bad intel, mistaken intents, who knows but those situations would have turned out better than this "Arab Spring" will especially for us.
I'm not really sure why this administration is so encouraging to the whole mess. Makes one wonder.

I recently had to cut off all contact with two friends whom I just couldn't listen to anymore. One was Jewish and the other was Muslim. Israel was formed after WWI by the League of Nations. And it was formed out of lands seized from the Ottoman Empire not Palestine.

Actually, Chef80, it was formed from lands bought from England. They were fighting the Steins ( the supposed Jewish "terrorist" group), and ran out of money post WW2. The land WAS actually Jordan, but the British had colonized it many, many years before. I think that all monotheist religions believe in the same Deity. That isn't just the "big three" but also includes the "Great Spirit" religions, a large section of Hinduism, Voodoo (believe it or not), The Way regardless of Tao or Dao, Buddhism, Germanic Paganism etc. In fact even the Greeks and by default the Romans were even Monotheists upon closer examination.

Almost all religions have at their core a belief that there is a singular and ultimate deity that has dominion over all creation. My contention has always been that the belief in an Deity is never the problem. It is a pretty universal theme. I am pretty much agnostic. I can not know God because his existence is beyond my ability to comprehend. I am bound by my physical existence and if there is a God, that physical existence is too narrow for any deity to exist within. I am finite and God is infinite by definition. It is up to me to make a choice to believe or not to believe.

So what is wrong with God if Gods exists? Not a damn thing! It isn't the fact that God exists or not that is the problem for our finite existance. The problem is all the crap we assume about God through our so called prophets. Prophets are the ones who tell us how to worship, teach us that we are the ones who are right and the others are wrong and generally cause a lot of trouble throughout history.

It isn't believing that is the problem, it's the "dogma" that finite human beings put in an infinite deity that is the problem. We are the problem with religion, not God. God doesn't need a religion to exist. God exists with or without religion.

1. Do you know the teachings of the Koran, Hadiths and Shar’ia Law? Have you read them? (Are you familiar with terms and concepts of Dar al Harb, Dar al Tadiyah, Dar al Hudna, Dar al Sulh, Dar al Salaam, Dar al Islam and how they differ?)
2. Do you denounce the teachings of Shar’ia Law regarding the treatment and rights of women, apostates, Jews and Christians (dhimmis), infidels and the compulsion of accepting Islam?
3. Do you denounce all forms of Jihad including cultural jihad and jihad that takes the lives of ordinary people?
4. Will you support laws to protect our State and Federal constitutions from any foreign laws including Shar’ia law?
