There was a time when no matter what happened, FEMA got funding for emergencies. Because they were emergencies. You can only cut so much waste and fraud before you have to tackle the actual emergency. Fact is, the US government operates nothing like a household budget.

The model of FEMA is not unsustainable, nor should it be required to offset emergency spending with cuts elsewhere. It's been a rough year, anyone will tell you that. People of all walks of life and almost every region of the country have been impacted by some natural disaster.

Let me put it another way: War is often considered emergency spending and I doubt many politicians have the spine the demand spending offsets when the nation is at war. You spend, get the job done, and pay it back later when you can. Natural disasters are much cheaper than wars.

So, if you look at the current budget, we've spent a lot because of three major emergencies and a lot of minor emergencies. Two wars and the worst financial crisis in 80 years. Our budget is exactly where it should be in response to these emergencies. Two of them are winding down. The deficit will decrease. (The national debt is another issue all together. It is the prime example of why the government does not run a household budget.)

Life that 1300 mi long border is the feds responsibility not Perry"s unless we suceed from the union. Than it becomes ours and we can patrol it.

Life2, Not all the raping that goes on is done by Priests. Check every neighborhood in America for registered child rapists and you will be shocked to find several in your own neighborhood. I couldn't believe it when I pulled up the list in my city in Texas. They are everywhere and that is just the ones that register. You are right, the Catholic Church has a real problem and I think it is because Priests can never marry or have sex as Father's at other church's that can. You have to ask yourself, what kind of man ( or woman for that matter) can go without sex for all his life. I think most Priests are gay from the beginning and the boys are easy prey. It should be stopped. I am Episcopalian and that doesn't happen in our faith, that I know of. The Pope Benedict himself was involved in a case about molesting boys before he was made Pope. It was swept under the table and he was still made Pope. Our faith doesn't honor the Pope. Just wanted to add my 2 cents on the subject.

Other states are being hit with storms, hurricanes, floods and California always gets it's share of fires. We just happen to be having a major dry spell. At least we don't get huge snow storms in the winter that shut down the state until people can be dug out. (1/2" of ice shuts down our state, lol) It's called Mother Nature and everyone gets their share. Pray for the families in need.
