Absolutely, when police are faced with deadly force they will respond with deadly force themselves. I am not a cop, but I am pretty sure police are trained to aim for the "center of mass", which for a human is the upper torso. I suspect the leg hit was not entirely intentional on the part of police, and the intention was the chest.

I should note that I am not criticizing the police. They exhibited intent to use deadly force and the police are right to respond in kind. It is the duty of police in our justice system to see that the accused are seen before a judge and jury, but I do not expect the police to assume extreme risks to accomplish this.

so, cops are trained to shoot center mass... they are also trained to point thier weapon on target as soon as its out of the holster. so a leg shot probably means the cop fired before he had his weapon at eye level. especially since the asailant had an assult rifle, pointed in his direction... not even at him mabye, but in his direction which is intent to kill. especially if it was an actual AK 47. you couldn't hit a lake if you were standing on the bottom with one of those.

I don't know about your shooting skills, but I can hit within a three inch circle at 100 yards all day with my AK, I use it for hunting, no problem....

Studies show that time and time again, black cops and white cops are more likely to arrest black suspects than white suspects. In addition, Black cops (and judges) are often harsher on black suspects and defendants because they don't want to be accused of giving preferential treatment. This is documented. So it really doesn't matter what color the cop is, the clear pattern is that if yo you are black, particularly male, you are going to be treated worse than a similarly situated white. When was the last time an unarmed white guy got shot up reaching for his wallet??

2nd amendment was about states having the right to have militias in order to stand up against a Federal government that was too powerful, not about individual citizens taking up arms against things the disagree with. Read the war powers clause, section 8 I believe, that basically makes state militias unconstitutional and gives the US military, under The Congress, sole military power. This proceeded the 2nd Amendment. It's why states have "National" guards. It's important not to make the symptoms fit the diagnosis, especially when interpreting The Constitution.

Maybe we'd be a little more sympathetic to your positions if any of you knew what you were talking about, but you seem to think that a Ruger 10/22 with a plastic, 15 round magazine is an "assault rifle" rather than a squirrel gun. You regularly use the term "automatic" when you really mean "semi-automatic", or "sniper rifle" for anything with a scope on it, and "machine gun" when you really mean any weapon the appearance of which scares you.

That may seem pettifogging, but it makes communication with the anti-gunners rather difficult, because they haven't a clue about anything they are talking about and therefore get tweaked out by appearances rather than capacities. It also suggests that much of their antipathy toward guns is a consequence of ignorance, rather than reflection. By the time you get to any meaningful issues, the parties are so far apart, just on the basics, that no legitimate discussion can even hope to proceed.

oldefarte, Amen. I remember recently, a politician was lobbying for stronger anti-gun measures stating a person can buy "heat seeking" bullets, when she was clearly misinformed. It is true, you can buy incendiary ammunition, but heat seeking? Well heck, I need some of that for when I go hunting.

Also, it is nigh impossible to own a real AK-47. I personally own an AK-clone, the AKM semi-automatic PM-63 variant, imported from Romania. I am not a criminal, and have intent on ever being involved in a criminal act, but I do enjoy going to the range and firing at targets and gongs. People that cry out against guns fail to recognize that the 2nd Amendment is the single most important, as it allows protection of the remainder. Free speech is nothing if you do not have the means by which to enforce and protect it.

I recall watching a lightweight boxing match a few years ago. A young black boxer came in and was introduced and got up in the ring and was waiting. Then some young hispanic kid came out and the music was blaring and he was introduced as "El Diablo"! Well the match started and 'ol "El Diablo" just barely made it to round two. Mindie is correct, they shot AT the officer in Florida over 20 times (during a high speed, occasionally exceeding 100 mph, pursuit) disabling his car. During the bank robbery in Georgia they fired their weapons into the ceiling. In Colorado the girl was pointing her weapon at police (but not firing) as she attempted to flee.

No matter how you slice it they are loking at life in prison, and they are luckier than they deserve that they din't hurt anyone (that we know of yet) and facing the death penalty.

Trying to shoot out of a moving vehicle at another vehicle behind you is much harder in real life than in the movies. If they hadn't lost control of their vehicle and rolled, it probably would have been much much worse. The 2 AKs would have probably ripped right through any body armor worn by the police.

@m-i agree. kudos to those officers! we read of kids being shot for pointing a cell phone at an officer. these guys had serious guns fired at them. amazing. i'm so proud of these officers for handling the situation the way they did. these stupid young people could all be dead right now. lucky for the them, they met up with these officers.

an officer always has the option of shooting to disable someone rather than unload a mag of bullets on someone who moves. you don't know the entire story of the kid i mentioned and you should hope that if was your child, they would shoot without killing him. officers are supposed to be trained to do so. hopefully, you won't find yourself or your child facing a trigger happy officer. instead of attacking me for my opinions, perhaps you should be congratulating the officers for a job well done.

Well, they get attempted murder of a police officer in FL, Bank robbery in GA, and various "minor" felonies in Colorado. I don't see any of them leaving prison outside of a pine box.

With budget cuts and good behavior, they'll probably get paroled at some point, unfortunately.

bank robbery is a federal crime and you don`t get parole in the federal system, if you get a 20 year sentence then you do all 20 years, the feds don`t parole folks.

Attempted murder of a police officer in Florida can get a life sentence. The bank robbery in Georgia carries 25 to Life (25 minimum, discharging firearms during the course of a felony carries a max of life). In Colorado they are each being charged with 4 counts of a mandatory 10+ year sentence crime (before adjustment for a crime against a LEO).

If run consecutively, they are each looking at 100+ years on just their minimum sentences for only their "top counts". The only way they are leaving prison is in a pine box. If they are actually guilty, they have no chance of an acquittal either because they left ballistic evidence in all 3 states.

They are looking at a maximum penalty of Life in both Florida and Georgia, possibly Colorado also, I couldn't the penalty for 1st degree against a LEO, but it is a 10 year minimum (25 max) against a civillian from what all I have been able to find (4 counts get you 40 - 100 years if sentenced for consecutive).

I do know people who live in Colorado and they are quiet nice people and not judgemental at all. You judging a whole based on a piece is, however, ignorant.
