Why did Bush let Osama Bin Laden get away? He was cornered in Afghanistan yet the entire American military machine FAILED to get him. Bush let Osama get away because he was trying to maintain good relations with Pakistan. Bush might not be very good at foreign policy (e.g. Iraq) but he knew not to piss off a potential ally in the Middle East by invading their country. At the time, we had two options: 1. Let Osama get away and hopefully kill him later, while keeping Pakistan happy. 2. Invade Pakistan to kill Osama, then piss off a nuclear armed nation in the power keg of the Middle East. And not just the Middle East. If Pakistan were to get jumpy, so would India, all of Asia, and the entire world. Things aren't so black and white.

I'm not an Obama supporter (in fact I plan to vote against him in the next election- I hate his economic policies), but what he did in taking out OBL took real courage. Why?

I can't remember, somebody help me out) to try to rescue them. The mission failed horribly, and just as much as the terrible economy and inability to bring the hostages home, the image of the smouldering helecopter in Iran was a big part in sinking the hopes of Jimmy Carter having a second term.

That is not true. Majority of Americans don't care about skintone nor do they care about airport policies. We want to be safe not just feel safe but be safe. I want a president that represents the nation as a whole and I don't see it. His speeches are meaningless and they seem it is all about him. I care less about his skintone. I want a strong leader. I want a president that sees the dangers that we are in and/or may encounter and not passify Americans to what he or whatever President wants us to believe.

Americans do care about airport policies, and they're costing the airlines plenty of customers. I can actually drive to San Diego (300 miles) faster than I can drive to the airport, arriving two hours early to jump through all the stupid hoops. I'd be halfway to San Diego before that over-regulated paranoid plane ever gets off the runway.

It's made short-hop trips impractical and it's killing the airline industry as a result, which is exactly what Al Qaeda wanted to do when they hijacked the airliners. The airport policies are doing a better job than Al Qaeda ever did.

I want a sensible leader who doesn't overreact. One shoe bomber on an international flight and now we all have to take off our shoes to get on an airplane? If short hops are impractical, why is Southwest flying with full planes? They are the most profitable carrier, and short hops is almost their entire bag. I'll grant you that there is a bit of hassle involved in air travel and that some of it is an overreaction. Nevertheless, it is nowhere near as bad as you make it out to be. For the record, I fly twice a week every week and have been doing so for a dozen years.

A plane can't be used as a weapon of mass destruction anymore because no matter what, no hijacker is ever going to be getting into a pilots seat on a jet again. The doors are inaccessible so there's no point in even trying to repeat the 9-11 scenario. The best terrorists can hope for is to blow a plane out of the air and that's never happened in the USA.

Full planes on short hops are connecting flights. The passengers aren't going short distances, the planes are. It's difficult to even find a carrier which doesn't involve a connecting flight.

When was the last time that an El AL plane was Hijacked or bombed? I believe that they have been doing something right for 40 or so years now. Do they have pat downs? Do they have Full Body Scanners? Do they have planes turn around because a note is found in the bathroom?

In some ways I am main stream America, in some ways not. I have traveled abroad several times and gone through check points and security many times. Security and inspections in China are no different than those here in America. I do not object to having my bags searched if will make others feel safer. I have been scanned and searched many times. It only takes a few minutes and if you do not get lippy with the security people you have no problems what ever. I have been treated courteously at every inspection and search. I am polite to the security personnel and have found them to be very helpful many times when I have had to get directions or have questions answered. People who bitch about the security procedures at airports would bitch if they were hung with a new rope.
