I read somewhere that Obama in his third year of his presidency has already given more speeches than both Bushes and Clinton combined. If true and it seems so, it’s no wonder people are tired of seeing his face virtually every time they turn on the TV. I suppose he craves attention.

It seems John 1.19 who claims republicans and tea party types are loosers, whatever that is. It's a good thing they're not losers like he is.

I'm more disappointed with what he doesn't say then what he does say. For instance he said:

What he neglected to mention was that the Irish's longing for freedom doesn't count. He promises military and economic assistance to protesters who have been demonstrating for almost an entire spring in Libya and the Middle East yet fails to recognize the struggle for Irish independence that has lasted for hundreds of years. He states that English colonies and religious persecution are a thing of the past and yet "Northern Ireland" remains.

No matter your political stance on the English occupation of "Northern Ireland" the president's decision to put so much emphasis on overcoming oppression and tyranny while speaking from both Ireland and England without even a mention of the Troubles is hypocritical and insulting.

He is praised by the media for being tough on Israel the state surrounded by enemies with few friends worldwide but can't seem to muster the courage to criticize England. I think that it is obviously easier politically to pick on someone like Israel compared to England and I never really expected him to have the courage to call out England but at least have enough sensitivity to hold off on the together we are champions of freedom rhetoric until you get home. By then the Irish won't be listening because they will be back to their daily lives of economic and religious oppression suffered at the hands of the English.

The one thing that Obama has clearly shown is that he has no clue what the word "leadership" means. I'm surprised he can even use it in a sentence!

Within the last year and a half I've been to England, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Canada and Mexico. Almost everybody I talked to is happy with Obama and can't understand why half of our country hates him so much.

It seems you only associate yourself with like minded people.

I suggest you try to find a more diverse group of friends and associates. Who knows maybe you will learn that you are not that politically far apart after all...

In fact really England really is nothing more than a name - our country is called the United Kingdom - which contains England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Great Britain did once "occupy" Ireland when it was part of our empire - any idea why most of it became independent, but Northern Ireland didn't? Because in Northern Ireland, the majority of the population wanted to remain British. If the majority wanted to join Ireland, then I can assure you that they would do so.

Do you think the English actually want Northern Ireland? It costs us a fortune, the IRA bomb us in terrorist attacks (with mainly funded by deluded Americans like mike - thanks guys) and really it has no value to us at all. But what we do believe in is democracy and the rule of law. Which is why Northern Ireland is still part of the UK.

Interesting interpretation of history however I feel obligated to shine some light on your selective and creative commentary. In the early 1600s England began to colonize Northern Ireland and as a result it was flooded by English and Scottish settlers which began to outnumber the natives who were pushed South or killed . Similar to when the English colonized America and drove the Native Americans to the West or killed them. When the native Irish revolted they were crushed in the Battle of Boyne and Siege of Derry. The Siege of Derry is still celebrated in August every year in Ireland and is so controversial that in the very recent past Americans have had to donate money to bring young catholic Irish children to the states so that they are not exposed to or harmed by the violence. Imagine a parade in the US that commemorated the slaughter of Native Americans...

Since the forceful acquisition of Northern Ireland the Unionist majority has disenfranchised, oppressed and even murdered Nationalists to maintain control. The Ballast investigation is just one example of how English forces and the RUC collaborate with Unionist paramilitary groups to obstruct and kill the Nationalists. Just as a reminder to this investigation was undertaken in the late 1990s not the 1800s or some long lost decade. It should be noted that the RUC and British forces who assist terrorists like the UVF are funded by the British Government. The provisional IRA has also officially decommissioned all weapons where as the Unionist paramilitary groups have not but thats probably because they are not being pressured by the British to do so. The threat of violence and unjust persecution is just one of the tools used to oppress the Nationalists. It wasn't until 1998 that the government of Northern Ireland was forced to share power with the Nationalist members. I guess democracy just made it to the island must've been a slow ship.

So yes current polls show a majority do not support uniting Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland as a free state but to say its because that's what the people of Northern Ireland want is ignorant at best. It would be completely ignoring the hundreds of years of oppression, disenfranchisement and murder. Not to mention that the population shift was by force not by voluntary conversion. Also consider that if the poll was opened to include both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland the numbers would probably be drastically different. I think that paramilitary actions on both sides are inexcusable but whats more unacceptable is labeling one side as terrorists without recognizing the same of the other side which includes the government of the Britain.

You have an obsession with the English - it was a Dutch Prince (who yes became King of England) that settled Ireland and the VAST majority of settlers were from Scotland - not England. In fact very few English ever settled there because its actually pretty nice living in England!

You do realize that Obama is basically damned no matter what action he may take. During previous natural disasters, Obama flew down to the sites of the tragedies. For these actions, many in the American public accused Obama of political grandstanding and wasting the tax payers' money for some publicity handshakes. Now during this most recent natural disaster, Obama sent in FEMA and continued with his scheduled plans of strengthening the bonds between the USA and other nations. In pure irony, some of the public is now angry with Obama for "doing his job" and not coming down to the disaster sites to "waste money" while he tries to get some good PR.

No matter how you cut it, Obama can't win. So what else do you want him to do? If he drops everything and rushes over to these disaster areas, then he'll be accused of wasting money and not making presidential decisons on behalf of the country. Or if Obama continues to fullfill his presidential schedule and just sends in the usual government agencies to handle the disaster, people accuse him of not caring about Americans. The President has taken time to visit with damaged areas in the county and he is full aware of the devastation across the continent. He also knows there are many 'reliable' individuals already at work to do all they can to help everyone as much as possible.

It isn't always easy for anyone to balance 'family' with 'business', but there must be a mid-compromise at some point.

Rather than bad-mouth another, load up a vehicle yourselves and drive on over to help out. If I were in the position, it's just what I'd be doing atm.

When was the last time NATO acted as it has recently to this extent? If Libya wouldn't be dealt with, then MG would crush any revolts and prove he is the most powerful person across northern Africa.
