I completely disagree with the notion that the trial will hinge on forensic evidence. If they can't effectively and logically explain the lies to the police and the party photos while her child was "missing", she's screwed. I'm sorry for her family, but this one's a loser all around. She'll need to take the stand, and that will be the final nail.
Legal experts believe she will take the stand. She is a liar and I doubt taking the stand under oath will make any difference.
I agree with you about forensics. I think her biggest hurdle is the fact that her child was 'missing' for 31 days and she told no one.
The evidence, or lack of, in this case are similar to Scott Peterson and you see what happened to him. Though, I don't believe she'll get the death penalty & I think that would be too good for her anyway. Guess we'll see what happens.
death penalty is a get out of jail free card for Ms. Anthony. why would we want to do that? and again, (and again) what sense does it make to say "you're bad and horrible and you killed someone so we are going to kill you!!" ridiculous.
first, she should @!$%# in prison for the rest of her miserable life having to think about what she did to her daughter.
second, who on earth is paying for all her "high powered defense experts"? didn't realize she or her parents had that kind of money.
as for THEM, i believe they are covering something up for her.
If the prosecution can get their expert to detail the chemicals of decomposition in the trunk, they should have their case made right there. It is a fact that decomposing humans give off different chemicals than decomposing garbage. Each animal is different and what is emitted from them is different. So if the witness can state that there was indeed a decomposing body in the trunk, I think there is nothing else to be said. I am not sure how many people here have been close up with a decomposing body, but you can rest assured it doesn't smell like the trash dump outside your apartment/house that has been baking in the sun for a week between pickups. Both do smell like hell though.
I think that whole family is messed up. A nurse and an ex cop. These people have coddled and covered up for their train wreck of a daughter long before she murdered Caylee which is exactly why she thought she could do something like this and get away with it.
@ Cassandra- you can understand her going to party if Caylee was killed accidentally? Jesus wept. What is wrong with you? So let's say she chloroformed Caylee "just to put her to sleep" so Casey could go out and party. Do you find anything in the previous sentence wrong? Personally, I find everything about Casey Anthony wrong. She has an ego that blows my mind and it is too bad she wasn't called on her crap before a child had to die. I guess you think that incident of her stealing from her grandparent was the first time she did that.
she has already been found guilty, her actions after the child went missing will be all the jury needs; Law is 90% common sense, her lawyers are just trying to prevent the death penalty, they have a tough job, she has State appointed lawyers, who are very good in death penalty cases .
Where does it say anything about Casey's parents covering for her? I read both the MSN and MSNBC article, which are exactly the same, and nothing is said about the parents except that they called the police and reported a suspicious smell in Casey's car. That certainly doesn't amount to lying for their daughter but rather pointing a finger at her.
I'm not exactly sure how we justify trying a mother for murdering a post-birth child
Mr.PheaNiques - what an idiotic statement. If anyone is suspected of murder, he or she will be put on trial for the crime. It's totally irrelevant if the accused murder is the mother of a murdered child. If that is the case, she deserves to be tried.
What mother of a two year old would leave their child with a baby sitter and they don't know nothing about them...even their name! She wanted to stay a party girl not a mother.
Call me whatever you want, but this case, to me, has been weird since the beginning. I'm not completely convinced Casey Anthony is guilty.
To me, there's doubt in my mind.
One of the things that causes the most doubt in my mind, is the grandmother. How does the woman know what a dead body smells like? It's pretty suspicious, to me, that she specifically says that the car smelled like there had been a dead body in it.
How does she know? Does she work in a morgue or in crime scenes? Is the old woman some sort of forensic expert, that she can actually identify the smell of a dead body? Think about it, you know? pretty suspicious, to me.
So, no, I'm not convinced Casey Anthony killed her own child.
I know there's not a lot of people out there that think like I do. And I know that Casey Anthony is.... more than a little odd. I get it, I've seen it. Since the beginning, she seems like an odd woman. But still, "odd" isn't enough to convince me. There's just not enough evidence against her, other than "weird circumstances" and "odd mental behavior".
Maybe the woman who smelled "a dead body in the damn car" should be under suspicion.
I believe that she is guilty.......but guilty of exactly what, I'm not sure. That's why we have a trial, people. Under our constitution, those accused of a crime are given the opportunity to defend themselves, and face their accusers, state their case, and ask for mercy.
If people (these people are the jury) can get the whole story, the FACTS, then they are better able to administer the proper punishment, that fits the actual crime. If she were my daughter, I would want all the FACTS to come out, so she could get a fair trial. So many times, crimes like this are tried in the media, and sensationalized above and beyond the facts. I will be watching to see how this story unfolds, and I will be hoping that the jurors listen carefully, abide by the judges instructions, and not allow their personal feelings and conclusions to taint what should be their unbiased conclusion.
I have read alot about this case because my daughter is around the same age as hers would be and I am as well a young mother. Unfortunately I recently found my father dead after committing suicide and not being found for 3 days. The smell of death is one you WILL NEVER forget. Garbage, mold, rotton milk, fruit, ect does smell but nothing compares to the smell of a decomposing body. Whos to say her mother has never smelt anything like that before. I do remember reading that she worked in a nursing home and death is a smell. The thing I have the hardest time wrapping my brain around is why she lied about her job, her babysitter, where she was etc....She says it was because she was conducting her own investigation....I dono about that. I do feel bad for her parents as they will always unconditionally love their daughter no matter what she has done and try to protect her from others and herself. Its just sad that a poor Innocent child's life is over for whatever reason.
I believe Cassey did kill her child, it could have been accidental from chloroform but that in itself is just wrong. There were several occasions where Cassey drugged Caylee so she could party and who knows Caylee may have died in her trunk while Cassey having fun partying with her friends. Either way you look at it she murdered her child.
Now onto Caylees mother, she is a nurse I am sure at some point she may have smelled a dead body if she works at a hospital. As for her covering up for her daughter, she did when she retracted her statement from when she called 911 to report the smell of a dead body.
Cassey's mother also stated that Cassey wanted to have an abortion but she would not let her, which is also a motive (in another article it stated that she wrote a letter to another cell mate calling Caylee a snot nosed brat and also saying that there was no babysitter).
This so called mother did murder her precious child and is trying to get away with it, I hope the jury sees right through it and puts her away for the rest of her life.
I agree, Johnluci, her own actions prove her guilt. What mother would wait a month to report their daughter missing? I would report my kid missing within 5 minutes if I had no idea where they were. The whole thing is just too obvious in my opinion. If she didn't kill her herself then she hired someone or knows the person who killed her. Just because she's crying now doesn't mean anything. She probably feels remorse after being confronted with the reality of what she did!
"I'm not exactly sure how we justify trying a mother for murdering a post-birth child"
Mr.PheaNiques - what an idiotic statement. If anyone is suspected of murder, he or she will be put on trial for the crime. It's totally irrelevant if the accused murder is the mother of a murdered child. If that is the case, she deserves to be tried.
I believe MrPheenix was trying to make a point about abortion, and that to him killing a baby after it is born is the same as killing one before its born.
I personally am on the fence about the whole abortion issue. I believe both sides are right, and both sides are equally wrong. You can't really separate the rights of the mother with the rights of the unborn child. Which is why I believe this argument will never be resolved.
Drane-Burdick asked jurors, between descriptions of how Casey Anthony spent her days shopping, visiting friends and hanging out with her boyfriend with no signs of her daughter, "Where is Caylee Marie Anthony?"
Who posting here would be engaged in such actions if your child was missing? Please tell me. Should have said shopping with stolen funds.
I completely disagree with the notion that the trial will hinge on forensic evidence. If they can't effectively and logically explain the lies to the police and the party photos while her child was "missing", she's screwed.
Party photos? Why do they need explaining. Just because you wouldn't party doesn't mean other wouldn't. Preconceived opinions and emotions should not convict anyone. Proof and solid evidence not conjecture and speculation.
A Florida mother charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter began crying Tuesday as a prosecutor gave her opening statements in her first-degree murder trial.
Act I, Scene I - Defendant cries...to be repeated ad nauseam
You're reasoning is a little skewed. You're basing your entire opinion (at least your entire post) on the fact that the grandmother said the car smelled like a dead body (which she later retracted & said it smelled like rotting pizza). I wouldn't call that suspicious.
What I think is way more suspicious is Casey had to be asked by her mother where her child was, why she hadn't been seen in a month & why had she not contacted the police. I cannot imagine for a second why her child was missing & she never reported it. Left her with a babysitter that ran off? I'm not a mother but I can tell you that every mother I know would be calling the cops ASAP. Not dicking around until someone asks them "Um, where's you kid?" a month later. I'd say her behavior is a lot more than "odd", more like suspect.
The partying thing would create suspicion with anyone, Nick. Maybe some would and some wouldn't party, every day in life, but when someone is missing a child, it's weird. A good parent (whether that parent enjoys a party or not) will worry about their missing child. So even if they were at the parties, I begin to wonder why she looks so happy? Her child is missing. I can understand throwing a party or bbq to make your friend feel better about her missing child. I do not understand why the mother seems so happy.
I think these comments are right on! Who cares about the legal process; she lied and didn't show remorse for her missing daughter, who, most people would conclude she didn't want to begin with. They should just lynch her based on Hear-say. If these comments represent my 'peers', then, I cringe at the thought of most of you sitting on a jury and deciding my fate.
Why are people surprised the parents are lying? Isn't there quite history of that in their backgrounds as well? They're all nuts, and obviously they created a sociopathic murderer. At least the parents are too old to breed again.
The partying thing would create suspicion with anyone, Nick. Maybe some would and some wouldn't party, every day in life, but when someone is missing a child, it's weird.
That's your opinion. We don't convict on opinion. Did you ever have someone that didn't like you and found everything you did wrong. Same here if it involves a child or veteran the person is automatically guilty.
Vicki 613 - Do you have kids? As a father of four grown kids, I couldn't image going anywhere but to the police department if one of mine were missing! When my kids were two year-olds, they would not have been left with anyone I did not know, trust and vetted. She went to parties? She waited 31 days to tell anyone her daughter was missing? Something smells other than her car.
As far as smelling something dead.... when you smell it, you know it... it's almost primal, like a genetic memory.
Just because mom is a nurse and dad is a cop does NOT mean either of them know the smell of a decaying body. Maybe dad, but why would a nurse know? Maybe she has smelled infection, but a dead body? I don't think so. Everyone knows the smell of rotting beef or chicken, the vast majority of people don't know the smell of a decaying human, so is it such a stretch to say that most people would think rotting meat and rotting human probably smell the same? Giving this sniff test to jurors is ridiculous. Unless they've actually smelled a rotting human before, they have no way of saying, "Yup, that's dead body, alright". It sounds like she's guilty, but if I was on that jury, you'd sure as hell have to show me something a little more concrete than having me smell some carpet and showing me results of a brand new forensic test. I'm not buying it.
I think it's interesting that Casey's mother ratted her out to the cops about the car that "smelled like a dead body" had been in it, when she didn't really suspect her of murder. Then when it looked like Casey actually did kill the child, her mother flip-flopped completely and denied even thinking such a thing. Makes me think that she wouldn't have reported her granddaughter missing in the first place if she'd truly suspected Casey killed Caylee. How messed up.
90% will be baesd off of forensic science. Just because the baby was missing from photos and was left with some random doesn't mean the mother killed the child. There has to be physical evidence of a murder to prove the suspect killed the deceased. Lawyers will work hard to discredit the "obvious", and ensure the jury deliberates on the proven facts.
The mother may be a scumbag, but will only be found guilty if murder is proven.
Something is wrong with Casey Anthony's story. From what I can piece together, she drugged her child to sleep so she could party. Did she put her child, drugged and asleep, in the trunk of her car while she partied? Maybe partied too hard, passed out or left with someone and forgot about the child, who dies from the drugs, being in the trunk too long in hot weather, thirst, hunger or something llke that. By the time Mom remembers, baby was dead so her mother buried her. Babysitter story is a cold, dead lie.
Joey, the jurors can find her guilty with whatever evidence they feel like using. I agree that there may not be any hard physical evidence of this woman murdering her child, but I really doubt that would stop the jury from finding her guilty.
USMC Vet, It isn't as uncommon as it may seem. There was a case in Fort Lauderdale, FL not long after they found the Anthony baby's remains where a woman showed up at the Police department with a child. Apparently, six months before, the mother had hired the women to baby-sit the child and never came back. The baby-sitter had no idea what to do and held on to the child for six months before going to the police. As is expected, the mother was partying it up and said she forgot she had dropped the child off. Some parent's are reluctant parent's and might actually look at a missing child as sort of a lucky break.
The situation you describe would best be described as Man-slaughter and child neglect. Not Murder. The most important being that they carry distinctly different punishments.
As nurse, the smell is something you don't forget, and certainly would never confused with rotting pizza. We had a patient who a part of his body was rotting, although he wasn't dead, yet. The smell permeates your clothes, hair, inside of your nostrils. When I used to get off the elevator to go to work, you smell the odor 8 units away. It's ghastly, and no matter how much I washed my uniform, my hair, etc. I could still detect the odor....I think it was in my sinuses.
If they let the jury take a whiff of it, the court better be ready for jurors either gagging or throwing up.
... One of the things that causes the most doubt in my mind, is the grandmother. How does the woman know what a dead body smells like? It's pretty suspicious, to me, that she specifically says that the car smelled like there had been a dead body in it.
I once caught a mouse and didn't notice the trap had been sprung. The smell alerted me. Once you smell it, you'll never forget it and could instantly recognize it again.
Actually admitting she drowned in a pool? And my 1st instinct after my 2-yr old drowns in a pool would be to wrap duct tape around her eyes and mouth. And who's pool? There's no pool at her house, so where did this happen and weren't there any other witnesses? Comon Defense, that's the best you got? You might as well just have her admit the whole truth and move right to sentencing and hope for leniency on the basis that she finally came clean. This is just complicating everything and making her look more guilty. But then, that's a good strategy if you ask me. I have to admit, if I was the defender in this case I would have a hard time trying to make it look like I was trying just enough, but not too hard to defend someone who committed a crime like this...
Whether she is found guilty or not, Casey Anthony should be given a hysterectomy. I don't agree w/ abortion but it is legal in this country. If you don't want to have kids you've got 4 choices:
1) abstain from sex
2) use very good contraception/protection
3) give the child up for adoption as soon as he/she is born
4) have an abortion or use morning after pills in conjunction w/ contraception
Neglecting, abusing or murdering your child is not an option. Most fit parents would go crazy if their child was missing, some might shut down and a few (like my husband) are capable of staying calm. But even if they remain calm (as my husband did and immediately became the polices suspect) they still do something about it. As I ran around crazed, my husband methodically searched and answered questions. Praise God our son was found w/ in 30 minutes but even if it had taken months, I can guarantee you as calm as he was and as crazed as I was, we would NEVER have been out partying having a good time. Oh and calm or crazed, the police were contacted immediately.
Talk about a 'holy shyte and fall back in it' moment...
Jose's implication that George routinely put his p.... in Casey's mouth when she was 8 was pretty shocking. But the admission that Caylee died in the family swimming pool in mid-June and that George not only discovered the body, but helped conceal her death was un-be-friggin'-lievable.
I'm not sure I believe it all, but HSAFBII still applies.
Let's see - she was devastated at her child's death so she put tape over her mouth then dumped the body; went and partied for a month; lied about where the child was; etc. Just what a good mother would do.
Even if the defense is correct, that Caylee drown in a pool, who hides the body? Or was it that Casey was too busy making party plans with her friends to notice her child in trouble in the water? She then hid the body, so no one finds out she wasn't watching her child? Give me a break!!
By the way, if it was in a pool, it doesn't have to be deep. It could be one of those kiddie pools that are only a few inches deep.
For those of you who state that you couldn't be a juror in this case because you know or believe that Casey Anthony is guilty, please consider how our court system works.
Your job as a juror is to decided whether the prosecution PROVED Casey's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. If the prosecution failed to present a near-ironclad case in court, then you have to vote "Not Guilty."
That doesn't mean that you think Casey is innocent, just that you believe that the prosecution didn't prove it in court. Yep, I think she's probably guilty, but my belief only comes from what's been reported in the press. That doesn't count in court.
What a bunch of garbage. It is indeed sad if her dad abused her but it is no excuse for killing your kid. Than you lie about the kid dying. My daughter fell in the pool and the 1st thing I did was call 911. She was still alive but if she weren't breathing I would still have called and prayed they could do mouth to mouth and save her. Bottom line, something happens to your kid you call 911.
Why duct tape the mouth if the kid drown. You duct tape a child's mouth to keep it from making noise. The whole thing is absurd.
"Vicki613 - Ok, sure....... still not convinced. Maybe she's mentally disturbed, doesn't make her a killer"
No parent would EVER let their child be missing for a month and NOT have called the police, period. This woman, and I call her that only in the most basic of terms, has repeatedly denied having anything to do with this whole situation. The claim about the pool drowning was only made in court in opening statements. She has NEVER admitted anything her involvement in this crime. There in nothing wrong with her except that she committed an unspeakable act of killing her daughter so she could go party instead of being a Mother. As far as the claim that she was supposedly molested when she was eight, I consider it an insult to true victims of molestation. Nothing excuses her actions.
Thank God there aren't that many people like you on juries or we'd be overrun with people like Ted Bundy walking the streets instead of pushing up daisies where they belong.
I am really tired of the argument as to whether or not Casey Anthony's parents know what a dead body smells like. THEY DO. THAT IS SETTLED. Can we stop that argument now?
I have followed this case from the beginning. After Casey's mother's comment about a dead body in the car when the grandmother reported her grandchild missing, THE PARENTS CLAMMED UP ABOUT CASEY. I DO NOT BLAME THEM. I DO NOT KNOW IF I COULD BE INVOLVED IN CONVICTING MY OWN DAUGHTER.
To be honest, I know that I would not help the authorities and I am a legal professional. Blood is thicker than water. I would let the authorities do their job and I would not thwart it.
That said, MOST OF YOU DID NOT READ THE ARTICLE. What a creative defense. I was waiting to see what her attorneys would say and now we know. I'll bet Ms. Anthony thought of this defense. Her father is an ex-cop. I expect that the child was found with water in her lungs which would be evidence of a drowning. Like I said - super creative.
My gut tells me she will be convicted of murder because no one can understand why she did not tell the police her child was missing. CASEY ANTHONY NEVER CONTACTED THE POLICE, HER MOTHER (THE CHILD'S GRANDMOTHER) CONTACTED THE POLICE. That fact alone points to her guilt as so many of us have said.
If the grandparents were in on it since the beginning then the grandmother would have never called 911 to report Caylee missing and the smell in her daughter's car in the first place. And Casey would of turned on her parents when this all started. I haven't heard what the grandparents reaction has been since she blamed them, interesting to see how they react now since they had been pretty supportive of her thus far.
KAREN- Chillax. MSNBC updates the article and adds info as we go, this morning the headline read something about forensic evidence and didn't have anything about the case going to the swimming pool defense until this afternoon.
Good point. I know they were never able to determine the actual cause of death. The official ruling was "homicide by undetermined means" or something like that. But it would be interesting to see if they could rule out any causes...like drowning.
o.m.g. she is more horrendous (if that is even possible) than i thought. if her father had been molesting her all those years, WHY wouldn't she have come forward?
i believed that the mother/father were covering up for her .. but to turn around and say this now?
all of this, whoever is responsible, all of them .. should be held accountable.
If so, how disgusting and how dare you speak to me like that. Who do you think you are?
What point exactly are you trying to make? You DID NOT succeed except in calling someone a name.
I was super tired of people reading the arguments talking about whether the parents know what a dead body smells like. How in the world does that relate to your comment?
o.m.g. she is more horrendous (if that is even possible) than i thought. if her father had been molesting her all those years, WHY wouldn't she have come forward?
i believed that the mother/father were covering up for her .. but to turn around and say this now?

Does Jose Baez really believe his own opening statement?
It is clear to me that Casey Anthony is a psychopath. Many of them are very convincing. Her assisting her defense included coming up with this cockamamie story. It probably does fit the evidence which they have been reviewing for at least a year.
Karen in LA - I believe CHILLAX is a combination of Chill and Relax.
I happen to agree with you that she is guilty, but sometimes you're zeal makes you a target from people that likes to screw with other people's emotions.
The more you give of yourself in a public forum, the more you open yourself up for abuse. I've learned that the hard way, several times.
Trust the jury. 99% of the time, they get the verdict right. Plus in this case a simple application of Occam Razor will most likely help them out. I find her defense as presented in this article to be far fetched. Her father was out to get her so much that he planted evidence? Really? But I'm not there listening to testimony, so I have to rely on 12 good men and women to apply common sense to what they will hear.
the mother is a nurse, so she knows what decomposing bodies smell like??? what ?? how many decomposing bodies do nurses usually smell ? my guess is none they walk into a room and theres a dead person . they call for a doctor. after the doc says theres a dead person , they call the morgue. end of story .
her mothers a nurse so she knows what decomposing bodies smell like is really a silly idea .
personally i think she guilty of murder but the above is only good for a laugh .
Joey, the jurors can find her guilty with whatever evidence they feel like using. I agree that there may not be any hard physical evidence of this woman murdering her child, but I really doubt that would stop the jury from finding her guilty.
Julia - exactly. this is not widely known, but juries can basically decide whatever they want.
I just want to know HOW her defense attorneys keep a straight face while they go about trying to defend this pathetic piece of trash? While I do not believe in the death penalty...even for a twisted p.o.s. who murdered her innocent little child. I hope they never let this creature loose in society again.
First she tries to say some woman had her child and she had been trying to find her. Now she says he daughter drowned in her parents pool. (was the duct tape on her mouth and nose supposed to keep her from drowning?) Then she throws her parents, who have stood by her, under the bus claiming they covered up the death and her Dad molested her. (Now he will end up on trial.) This sorry excuse for a woman is just plain evil.
I told my friends from the beginning that Caylee had drowned or died accidentally in some way. I thought first of the grandfather. Casey's erratic behavior spoke volumes to me. People that have been sexually abused as children often behave erratically. It is the damage the abuse caused in their emotional development and well being. My sense was that she had been sexually abused by her father. I thought either Caylee drowned accidently while in his care, or he drowned her because he was afraid she would tell what he had been doing. It was highly evident from the beginning that Casey was afraid to make a mistake. I picked up on her mother doting on her little granddaughter and not giving love to Casey.
Casey would be scapegoated quite a bit especially with her behavior. The grandparents then could escape their role and abusive behavior by making Casey out to be bad or a liar. That is exactly what they did in the beginning also. So the other scenario that fit to me was that Caylee drowned accidentally and Casey overwhelmed with grief and knowing that even though it was an accident her parents would blame her tried to hide it happened. Her behavior of partying was either to cover up what had happened by not arousing any suspicion or just an emotional breakdown of sorts.
I don't think at all the Casey intentionally harmed her daughter. The death was accidental. The crime was in its cover up.
Land, on what authority do you say people who have been sexually abused behave erratically. 1 out of every 4 girls are sexually abused, but the vast majority of them (myself included) live in society in a healthy, productive way. We also make good mothers, wives, friends and daughters (my abuser was not my parent or any immediate family member). This is a crock.
As the mother of a small child, SHE IS RESPONSIBLE for the safety of said child. I don't give a darn how the kid died, the mother is responsible. That said, I think she killed the child because she was too much trouble. And the parents are IDIOTS. I have watched them on interview after interview. They ENABLED their daughter for years. The whole bunch is a whack job.
BTW...The smell of a dead body is much like pornography. You may not be able to describe it, but you know it when you see (smell) it. It is one of those things that you just know. If anyone has ever smelled a dead carcass, you have a clue.
Second, let's wait and hear the evidence before we decide a person's guilt. She certainly has a lot to answer for--that is an understatement--but, it is up to the jury to determine guilt, not arm chair quarterbacks.
What’s wrong with the parents for NOT noticing she was missing for 30 days? I would have called the police on DAY 1!
Now wouldn’t you all feel bad if Casey is telling the truth and the parents tried to cover it up and it really was a drowning? When my nephew drowned in the pool when he was 14 mo old, he was only in the water for 5 minutes…he was not water logged. Luckily, we saved him with CPR but it took us 2 years to get over it.
Remember, her father attempted suicide right after it happened. Her father being a cop could have taped her up to make it look like a kidnapping. As a nurse, her mother doesn’t “smell death” from working..a fresh dead body doesn’t smell yet vs a decomposing body in a hot car for days…
I also never trusted the guys story that found the body
I will withhold judgment until ALL the facts are in!
@ Maureen...you are right the defense does not have to prove anything....that said...the defense has thrown some pretty ridiculous accusations out there and for them to create reasonable doubt they need some evidence, of even one of these fabricated stories taking place! It shall be interesting!
If they knew the child had drowned, did they not have an obligation to come forward with this??? They withheld evidence if this is true which I think is a bunch of garbage, she now has her defense team, telling stories that are not true, who do we believe????This has to be a joke......she is guilty whether it was an accident or not..................
I happen to agree with you that she is guilty, but sometimes you're zeal makes you a target from people that likes to screw with other people's emotions.
It's too bad you don't live in Florida. Casey Anthony's attorney would love you to be on the jury.
You don't know much of the facts of the case. Why would CASEY ANTHONY'S PARENTS CALL THE COPS IN THE FIRST PLACE? Casey Anthony's parents are the grandparents. Casey Anthony told her parents so many BS stories of NON TRUTHS that are too enumerous to discuss. I've been following the case.
The grandmother finally had enough when her daughter could not produce her grandchild and the grandparents said the car smelled like a dead body. Her parents would know - one's a nurse and the other is an ex cop.
With respect to the grandfather attempting suicide, I don't think it had anything to do with any guilt he had over him doing anything to his grandchild. How would YOU feel if YOU found out YOUR DAUGHTER MURDERED HER OWN CHILD?
u know what really bothers me is these attorneys who defend her. Someone asked how can she afford such lawyers well justice like education and healthcare has become a business they get the money afterwards from the case or they are doing to further their reputation for their ability to get the guilty off thus increasing their clientele
Post 1.13 might be the most telling post I've ever seen at Newsvine. People here gave that post 18 votes and the posts stated facts its self has already been proved to never have existed - that being the mystery babysitter. There was no babysitter - so how on earth did 18 of you agree with post 1.13.
Now I see how we get so many crack-pot posts at the vine - you people are to lazy to read the article and do research out side of your own tabloid mind. Do some of you have ancestors from Salem Mass?
I DO live in Florida, not far from the scene of the crime… and it has been all over the news here since this happened. I think I have heard more information than you have. The whole thing sounded fishy from the beginning. Unlike you, I will listen to ALL of the evidence before I convict. Everyone has convicted her before the trial even began. What happened to innocent until PROVEN guilty?
Prosecutors and a defense attorney for the Florida mother each presented new, vastly different theories of how the little girl died.
You can’t convict on a THEORY! There are no supposed witnesses.
An autopsy was never able to conclude a cause of death for Caylee.
…alongside an image of the little girl's skeletal remains. A meter reader discovered Caylee's remains, some as small as a pebble
No wonder Casey is screwed up in the head…talk about a dysfunctional family! How do YOU know she didn’t drown?
I’ve been a nurse for 29 years and can’t tell you what a decomposed dead body smells like.
Karen, the word chillax is a combination of to words, the poster was just saying to chill and to relax, has nothing to do with exlax nor was it name calling.
Many of you describe the smell of a rotting carcass, decomposing flesh, etc. A smell you never forget and so on. The issue was that supposedly there was garbage left in her car for 3 weeks, and the parents said it "smells like a damn body" in there. So HOW does one differentiate between the smell of rotting meat in garbage and the smell of decomposed human? My original point was that having the jurors smell some piece of carpet from the car is ridiculous in trying to get them to think a human body decomposed in there. I suppose the defense will come up with their own rotten concoction to have the jurors smell to show them there is no way to know if the smell was human or animal meat.
Land, I am also a victim of sexual abuse as a matter of fact it was exactily as cassey describes hers of being. I also live in society with no issues, I am a responsible person, I do not party. I unfortunatally can not have children but take care of a lot of peoples children and I would never harm a hair on their heads. My abuser was not a family member but was my mothers live in boyfriend. So this excuse she is using for the crimes that she commited are BS.
I don`t know anything about this case except for what i`ve read here in the comments and from glancing over the article . I rarely watch T.V and I NEVER watch the news.
Casey Anthony is a SOCIOPATH. She will deceive anyone and everyone, defraud and cast blame on others, and murder her own innocent child without a morsel of remorse or regret...any tears she sheds are for herself and that she got caught. She is a monster and her history of lies and false accusations will be her demise. I feel some sorrow for her parents...especially her dad, that she and her corrupt lawyers now choose to cast blame for the murder/cover-up on him, and claim a history of sex abuse. So heinous to continue to heap mental abuse on her parents...they may destroy her father, and if so, she (and her attorneys) should be charged with criminal activity in that, as well. Her lawyer, Jose Baez must also not have a conscience to be a part of this sick and twisted charade. I realize that this deviant monster client of his is legally guaranteed a right to a trial with a defense attorney, however Baez could have simply attempted a mental illness defense for this sociopath, rather than join in her continued quest of total destruction of her family.
Karen - Apologies if you didn't get my point. As others have pointed out - chillax is just a combo of chill out and relax, light-hearted pun that for some reason sent you into a rage. Sorry, I had no idea you had anger-management issues, which is quite obvious now. But the point was, you were criticizing people in this thread for not reading the entire article or addressing the "creative defense." The fact is all those posts were made in the morning before MSNBC had updated/added the development of the "drowning in pool defense" to the article and changed the headline yesterday afternoon, just trying to clue you into that. My advice is that you don't leap to rude assumptions and get some help for your anger issues. Good luck.
I agree; Casey is a sociopath. So many of us are trying to grasp the concept of how someone could do this to their own child...the fact that you even think that way means you have empathy…something Casey lacks. If you were born without a soul/a conscience, or the ability to empathize you would view others as disposable because your only concern would be to look out for #1.
Does anyone know if a mental health evaluation was done? I think this would have been a better defense then the one presented. Their client has no empathy or remorse for her actions and is a pathological liar. I think the jury will see right through this cover-up story because it’s a bunch of bs. Instead, Casey expects her parents/siblings loyalty while throwing them under the bus and I think she was betting on them going along with the defense strategy…until George’s testimony yesterday.
People seem to forget that she tried to toss her brother under the sexual abuse bus also. You think he might like to get up on the stand? Siblings tend not to have the loyalty of a parent, especially if their childhood relationship wasn't close. Trying to pin your brother with and incest stigma that will sit with him for the near future and effect him in every way... I have a feeling that he has quite a bit of insight on his "darling" sister.
I had no idea you had anger-management issues, which is quite obvious now.
To chillax is something totally out of her range of her capabilities. Leaping to rude assumptions is a style continuously demonstrated. I like it when others point that out here.
Like I said, it's too bad you are not on the jury.
My mind is made up on this one because the KEY evidence has already been disclosed:
CASEY ANTHONY DID NOT CALL THE AUTHORITIES TO REPORT HER CHILD WAS MISSING. SHE NEVER DID. IT WAS HER MOTHER (child's grandmother) WHO CALLED.
Casey Anthony's father is an ex-cop so Ms. Anthony must have known it was better to report her child's accidental death than to hide it if that is indeed what happened.
I don't care how this poor child died. Her mother is responsible. I've heard all the evidence I need to hear thanks to Nancy Grace and the media.
With respect to all of you who are bashing her defense attorneys - JUST REMEMBER that WE ALL HAVE A RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY AND WE HAVE A RIGHT TO A LAWYER.
We believe in fair fights in a court room. Even criminals need lawyers.
One of my friends is a public defender. He is a firm believer in due process of law. That concept separates the United States from the rest of the world.
Karen In LA, what's with all the anger and hostility? People are responding to you in a RESPECTFUL manner and you turn around and be extremely rude. (Yes, I know, you don't care what anyone thinks...that's obvious)
CalifGina was explaining to you that the earlier posts were based on the article BEFORE it was updated with the latest information (the swimming pool defense) but you totally ignored that bit of advice and basically told her to piss off!
What's up with that. If you are going to interact in a social setting, even if it's just the Internet, you DO need to care what other people think. Otherwise you might as well just write an article based on your opinions. Why even bother posting in a message board if you don't care what anyone else thinks?
Write an article, you can have your ego, your anger and no one else to argue with, unless of course you enjoy being confrontational, which also says a lot.
Every person deserves a fair trial and with a competent lawyer. The only thing that most of us ask is that lawyers act professionally enuff not to be sleazy and slander other people in order to give a criminal a fighting chance. Why do you think lawyers are universally hated?
Let's face it, the court system is flawed in general. They don't pick a jury of peers... they choose 12 people that don't know anything about nothing. This is well shown in most high profile cases. All of the information takes an intelligent person to process, and when you select the ones that just "don't know", wweeeellllllll... you get guilty people that walk because the jury doesn't understand DNA or some other technical piece of evidence. Why? Because the defense attorney confused them about what it means, even after an expert explains everything about it. Reasonable doubt is one thing... confusing a stupid person is another. All I have to say from the OJ trial is "If it doesn't fit, you must aquit."
Post 1.13 might be the most telling post I've ever seen at Newsvine. People here gave that post 18 votes and the posts stated facts its self has already been proved to never have existed - that being the mystery babysitter
I reread that after you posted this, and what I THINK people might be reading, and I know it is how I read it the first time, is that Casey Anthony's story of leaving her with a babysitter but having no info on the sitter is implausable because no good mother would do that. Hense, Casey probably didn't. I could be wrong, because I didn't get that after I reread it after you made your point.
Every person deserves a fair trial and with a competent lawyer. The only thing that most of us ask is that lawyers act professionally enuff not to be sleazy and slander other people in order to give a criminal a fighting chance.
I completely agree. That is what I said. But....
What makes you think that Anthony's defense lawyer is not professional? All I've seen is professionalism from him, not to mention a zealous defense.
This is a pretty creative one if you ask me and somehow it has to be based on reality because the defense lawyer, as an officer of the court, can not perpetuate a fraud on the court.
Think of it this way as well. If he doesn't do his job, it's called grounds for appeal. You wouldn't want that now would you?
What mother of a two year old would leave their child with a baby sitter and they don't know nothing about them...even their name! She wanted to stay a party girl not a mother. No doubt she is GUILTY!
The infamous post 1.13.
I don't know where you got your story, and if it is msnbc, wow, but as an fyi, this has proven to be one of Casey Anthony's lies anyway. She's pathological.
Originally, when the child was reported missing by the grandmother, Casey Anthony insisted that she left the child with this babysitter. She could not provide police with adequate information about this babysitter so that this alleged babysitter could be located.
Don't forget that she said this because she did not report her child missing for a month. That was the reason she did not report it - she said. She also said that she was using her own means to find the child to justify not calling the police.
Then, the child is found dead.
Then, we hear Casey Anthony's defense is that the child accidentally drowned.
Then why did she say she left the child with a babysitter? She also told police that she worked at Universal and even walked them on the lot so they could go to her office. SHE HAD BEEN FIRED MAYBE A YEAR BEFORE THAT.
I feel sorry for the jury. They have to listen to the web this psychopath wove.
There were too many false stories given, that I just can't bear to go through it again.
I am appalled at this Casey Anthony's behavior. I feel so sorry for her family, and most of all her dead child. May that child rest in heaven.
If you have ever smelled a dead animal or human - it is very easy to tell the difference between that and rotting garbage - many more fluids and acids in the body than there is in garbage. You can tolerate more than one whiff of rotting garbage - you will avoid a second whiff of a dead carcass at all costs.
The defense is pretty ridiculous - but after watching him present it, I can see where somebody might buy it -shout it loud and long enough and someone will believe it.
The defense lawyers are trying to portray Casey as the victim; when she is the one who victimized her child and now she is doing the same to her family! It is too bad it isn't a criminal offense for attorneys to throw out these kinds of accusations.
The FBI did a paternity test on her brother, because of her accusations. I would be surprised if her Dad is arrested, when the only evidence against him is the word of a proven liar! I will be glad when she is convicted and put away!
on what authority do you say people who have been sexually abused behave erratically
There are patterns of behavior common to sexually abused survivors and children. Different patterns often suggest the degree of abuse, the age at which the abuse occurred, the length of time the abuse continued, whether it was incest or a person outside of the family and how much support and love the victim received from those around her. So there is no one answer. I was sexually molested by incest in my family starting at 4 years of age and stopping sometime around 9 years old. I was also taken to a place where I was raped by other adults, experienced torture, and watched torture of another child. I picked up on the dysfunctional patterns of behavior in Casey's family from the start.
Land, my experience is not very different from yours, but I wouldn't act a thing like her. I've also seen Narcasistic Personality Disorder, and THAT'S what I see in Casey.
I don't act like Casey either. However, I can sense her pain, and, as one abused, I cannot judge her. I look for understanding of people's behavior. I know of the scapegoating dysfunctional families can do. I know how easy it for them to collude to present a picture that is not true at all. If Casey was abused, she has been through hell. Her behavior is erratic and she has been struggling. I picked up on the dysfunction way early on. Look for the truth. Complex post traumatic stress disorders can present on the surface as any number of different mental illnesses. Casey's partying was her way of surviving. She walled off the pain and hurt. And I think there is even more to the story here.
Land, I think it's an awesome thing that you are so empathic to the hurting in this world, we could use more people like you. However, I think you are, understandably, just taking Casey's word for being abused with no other evidence. And, as a survivor myself, I understand not wanting to not believe anyone who says they are abused, it happened to us and we know how bad it feels. However, some people do lie about abuse to excuse their actions. I'm not entirely, or honestly even remotely, convinced Casey is not one of these people.
One woman I know was abused sexually by her father and, like me, taken to where she was abused by others also. There was video of her father raping her which was used in court to send her father to prison. Jump ahead several years and the father gets out of jail. He approaches his daughter who thinks that he is going to apologize for what he did. It is not what happened. He told her he never abused her and that she ruined his life. Even though there was video showing him raping her, he still denied his guilt and still put the burden upon the daughter. Abuser rarely admit guilt.
Teenagers who have been sexually abused and remember it or have it ongoing often have behavioral issues. they may get involved with drugs, get in trouble with the law, lie and cause all sorts of chaos. The abusers then paint the teenager as a 'problem' child and the source of the family's dysfunction. However, the behavior of the teenager is not the problem, it is the result of the problem. Unless someone steps in there and starts protecting the teenager, listening and looking for the truth, the abusers will get away with not only raping their victim but destroying them emotionally.
Casey is now in a position where she can be protected from her parents. They will not like it at all. Their power to hurt her is on trial here also. I don't believe Casey killed her daughter. My gut feeling immediately was that Caylee died because of an accident. One is calling Casey 'a liar' because she did not tell the truth about what happened. She was afraid to tell the truth. She is no longer afraid. Let the truth come out. Parents are often believed over their child. And in incest cases, that is used to the hilt to keep the abuse secret and if the child tells, she is called a liar.
And you reason for believing Caycee's story of abuse is exactly what? That other people who were abused acted out as teens or remembered the abuse years later therefore it must be so for Caycee Anthony? So based on that generalization, you are concluding that Caycee is telling the truth now because she no longer has to be afraid of her alleged abuser?
The logic is faulty. By your standard, anyone who causes "chaos" could claim they were abused in the past and they remember it now so they should not be held fully responsible for their actions. That they may have lied before because they were afraid, but now they can tell the truth. This is illogical and promotes increased dysfunction as in not taking responsibility for one's actions. It is also why it is important to have EVIDENCE to support the allegations.
Ever hear of the Salem Witch Trials?...Based on your criteria for determining guilt, we could be back where the accuser only has to say something was so and it is believed.
Her father testified that he smelled what smelled like a dead body in the car and it concerned him.
So as a police officer, why didn’t he call the police????
As a nurse, her mother didn’t know she was 7 months pregnant???
As a nurse, she is also required to take the Florida mandated Domestic Violence Course every 2 years to renew her nursing license. Perhaps if she had paid attention to it, she would have seen the abuse Casey was suffering which would account for her behavior.

GREAT post! It’s no wonder that victims of rape and incest never come forward, as evidenced by all the posts above, the VICTIM is on trial, not the abuser!
Fedup; all victims have to stand up for them selves. I've been in a 10 year battle with Workers Compensation - they have no legal responsibility to do justice - their mandate is reject as many as possible. After 3 years I finally got the medical evidence needed to secure my rightful benefits (10 operations later and more needed). I was rejected by every lawyer I saw - but I listened to what they said I needed - and I was determined to get what legally qualified as evidence.
Most victims feel this is just more victimization - but it's the rules of the game. If Casey is innocent - then she will know where to point to to provide evidence that she is not guilty. If she can't provide that information that clears her - as far as the legalities go - she will most likely be found guilty. I think there are just too many things that would have all had to happened in order for Casey's story to be believable enough to clear her.
Liars go one step at a time - they don't make up the whole story - one step is meant to clear up the last lie, or make it bigger so it seems important. We have all looked back on things we did and thought and wondered how we ever though that what we were thinking was the best choice. It was the choice at the time - this is Casey's life story - living for the next 15 minutes. When all those 15 minutes are added up - it says the girl is guilty.
I live in Florida, and I would never have made the jury. I think she is guilty as hell, and has lied over and over, and would throw anybody over the cliff, her parents, her friends, her brother, and smile while she did it. I don't think she'll get the death penalty, which she deserves, but life in a Florida prison will be worse than death.
scales - the problem is, a death sentence actually costs more than life w/o parole. The special housing is more costly, the legal process involved in getting to an actual execusion is costly, etc. Sentencing her to death would cost the tax payers more.
Michelle if what she did is true I think her parents did not do a good job in raising her. As a side note: I'm not even a woman and that father gives me the creeps.
Greenwood, my mom says the same thing. She thinks he did it and Casey is too scared to tell anyone any different. To which I replied "Yeah RIGHT! Why would she not tell the cops? Sorry, mama instincts tell me that she would have told her lawyer, not lied, and OH YEAH, Mommy and Daddy would not have made the call like that, or let her daughter lie like that."
Dude is a cop. He knows better. He is creepy, but I don't think he is a killer.
Death penalty would cost more, but in this case, I think it will be the most painful for her. Many people say that its the easy way out, but a sociopath like her will make a new life (and probably an okay one) in prison and she'll do alright. It won't effect her like the death penalty. She's a self-centered spoiled little brat and she deserves to feel the fear of death. This woman will never feel the guilt or shame of killing her daughter, she doesn't have the heart. But, sitting on death row knowing that her precious party life, the boys, the drugs and alcohol, and the freedom have all been taken away, and she is going to be put to death...... that will consume her. And I pray that it happens.
Atascadero and Coalinga ARE Hospitals. Not jails. Jails and prisons are called hospitals because there's hardly any state hospital beds left, so most mentally ill offenders end up in correctional facilities.
The death penalty is very rarely swift. Usually it involves decades of appeals and often the inmate sentenced to death either gets their sentence commuted after 30 years of appealing or they die of natural causes. A few death sentences have been carried out relatively swiftly but I don't think this would be one of them, if she were given the sentence.
I am "mostly" against the death penalty but WOW, you make a really great point. Initially I thought life in prison would be better because she could sit in jail and maybe eventually feel some remorse. But, I think you're right - she would just rationalize herself into a content prison life. But the fact that it takes ages for a death penalty to be executed (pun intended) and that she could have that looming over her head while she had to wait it out would probably affect her more and that would kind of be the best of both worlds = long wait in prison followed by execution. Jeezer, I feel like a horrible person for thinking that but - it is what it is.
I believe she shoould died the same way that she killed her daughter. It would be alot more painful for her as an adult. I just don't understand how someone can look into your or anyones elses child and harm them in any way. I believe that when you kill someone, the way that you committed the act should be your punishment too. Maybe if that was start people might start to think about what they are doing and stop some of it.
Prison is definitely NOT a 5 star hotel at least in California. It's hell on earth, and unless they keep her totally confined to one cell alone, other prisoners do not take lightly those who harm children.
I personally would prefer the death penalty than life in a California State prison.
You have to remember that a child-killer typically doesn't last in prison, and I'd venture a mother who killed her child would be a short-term inmate in a woman's prison. She'd either get smart and find a way to live in solitary or she'll end up dead anyway
This woman is guilty as sin, any mother can tell you that. I was a single parent and raised both my children from the time my oldest was 6 and my youngest was 4. and If either one of them had went missing, I damn sure wouldn't have been out partying. but I would have moved heaven and hell to find them. what a sorry excuse for a mother. the death penalty would be to merciful for her
Me too! I would prefer the death penalty to life in prison! But especially if I were Casey. It is catching up with her of the horror of what she did. I am sure this trial will be torture for her and I am quite pleased to see it!
Californie Lawyer Magazine Coalinga State Hospital!!!
Trapped in the Treatment Mall For some California sex offenders, prison is just the start of their confinement.
Though parts of it look like a shopping mall, Coalinga State Hospital is a treatment facility for sex offenders who may never be freed.
September 2008 By Tom McNichol
Pause for a moment in the sun-dappled area they call The Mall at Coalinga State Hospital, and it looks for all the world like Anytown, U.S.A. Against the south wall is the barber shop ("Back at 3:30" announces a sign in the window), and close by is the post office and the Union Square Cafe. Other destinations are known by names that make the facility sound more like a California theme park than a hospital: the Cali-stoga Dental Office, the Moss Landing Lending Library, the Candlestick Park Visitor's Center. Everything is Disneyland spotless, down to the buffed tile floors.
That child didn't drown...why would the grandparents have been afraid to call the police if she had? Her dad was a police officer, he knew they had nothing to fear.... that defense makes no sense!
That self-centered little psychopath did this. And now that she thinks she is going to be punished, she wants to destroy her family members for not lying and trying to cover up for her. Who will she blame for the internet search for chloroform? Her Mom?
The death penalty being more expensive than life in prison might have been true at one time but I don`t believe that is true now.
Healthcare costs have gone up 400% in the last several years and prisoners tend to have a lot of "accidents". As they get older they require more health care just as all older people do. We can be sure that health care costs will continue to rise and in 35 years when she will be 60 years old health care costs will be very high and she will be needing a lot more health care at that age.
If the larynx went into spasm, there would be little or no evidence of the cause of death. If she were drugged and drowned--still no evidence--particularly if she were drowned in bath water. After decomp, if she were simply smothered there would be no evidence. Many deaths where a baby was rolled over on by a sleeping mother produce no evidence and are often called SIDS. I believe that Casey's mother and father are taking an unnecessary hit on this thread. There has been no evidence to point to their guilt and "creepy" just doesn't cut it. I believe they loved their granddaughter and are heart broken. They also love their daughter--which may prove to be miss placed loyalty. She appears to be quite willing to throw them under a bus.
If she did kill her child, perhaps accidentally, I could understand her going to a party as a way of trying to forget, if only for a little while. And she might have been using the chloroform as a way to keep her quiet, even if it led to the tragic accident.
I know...people will say she should have given up the baby for adoption. A friend did offer to adopt the child...but Casey's parents said they would disown her if she allowed it. And, of course, if she had had an abortion, no one would ever have heard of her and she would still be working at Universal Studios.
Say what?? You could understand her going to a party as a way of trying to forget that she killed her child, perhaps accidentally????
Please, please tell me you are kidding me! And if you aren't, please tell me that you (a) have no children of your own (b) have no access to other people's children and (c) have been kidnapped by aliens, who wrote that post for you.
Cassandra, if you really believe what you wrote, then our society is really in trouble!
Cassandra - its amazing you can "understand" her going to a party to temporarily forget her daughter dying. The type of person who can empathize with that, to me, is a very sick person (yes, you).
Which is why the prosecution will be allowed to introduce evidence of her partying the night away both before, and after her daughter's disappearance/murder. The partying/drinking was not a break in her pattern - she did it all the time. What was she trying to "forget" during the first 2 years of her daughter's life?
She didn't go partying to forget the murder. She murdered the child to go party, from the looks of it. Her lifestyle before Caylee's death was constant partying. She had no job. Caylee was the result of that party lifestyle. Casey was saddled with the baby because her parents - the ones supporting her partying - pressured her to keep the consequence of her actions. They seemed to think that the burden of parenthood would mature Casey and make her live more responsibly.
What happened instead was she overdosed her "burden" so she could keep living irresponsibly. Which she continued to do for a month after she knew her child was dead. She only stopped the party life when her parents reported her to the police and she got arrested. Look to the past to predict the future. If they hadn't reported Caylee missing, Casey would still be out there getting loaded and probably making more babies she didn't want.
If it were an accident, such as drowning, which is what she is saying now, why would there have been duct tape over her mouth when they found the body?
Cassandra, Evidently you are not a mother, or you would never say such a thing. I would never be able to eat, drink, or "party" if one of my kids OR grandkids were missing. This sorry excuse for a woman had a responsiblity to that child to keep her safe, I don't care if she didn't want her. Chloroforming her so she will stay quiet does not fall under that category. And missing for 31 days before notifying the police, extremely unbelievable!!! You sound like you've been partying too much! And this was not "a tragic accident", this was murder pure and simple.
That Cassandra is without a doubt - childless and young - it would not be possible for a normal parent, mother or father, to "party to forget". Just wouldn't happen.
It is murder, hopefully the prosecution can do its job.
"They don't have a confession. They don't have an eyewitness. They don't have direct evidence. They are relying on forensic science that is circumstantial, at best."
she has already been tried by the press and found guilty by the people on this board. isn't that enough? what more could they possibly need..........
I remember once in Iowa a jury foreman was asked why they had reached a verdict so soon and she replied "If he didn't do it why would they arrest him?". I have also heard a former juror say they found someone not liable in a lawsuit because "they just didn't think anybody needed that much money."
I pray never to be tried in front of a jury. I think the defendent's odds were better during the Inquisition.
ILZIMA your quote "What is odd to me is the idea that a mother is not permitted to kill her own child but is permitted to have a doctor kill the child as it comes out of the womb. It´s all the same as far as I am concerned. What? You folks are making the rules as you go along. That´s not the way that our government is suppose to work. Why is this woman on trial for murder when all she did was what Tiller was doing before he was shot? I find it funny how outraged people get when a women kills her own child and how equally outraged the same people get when an abortionist gets killed. Makes no sense whatsoever."
Your the reason females in the USA have the right to carry a child to term or have the option for an early abortion. People like you scare the hell out of the rest of us, because you justify cold blooded murder. If you don't like abortion, then don't have one. But, Tiller was within the LAW, your diatribe incits unlawful murder of others. You'd do well in the middle east. I think you need to marry a member of the Taliban, a match made in heaven. Your religious notions are just that, YOURS. Take you insane believe system with you, and don't let the door hit on the way out, nutcase.
i thought you all said earlier that this is off topic in this thread. so then WHY do you keep flaming the subject?? because you want to one up? because you want to show how intelligent you are? because you want to show that you have a better argument? really?
JCB, I must say I stand behind ILZIMA on this one. You totally took what they said out of context. "I think you need to marry a member of the Taliban, a match made in heaven." Seriously? All ILZIMA is trying to do is point out that abortion ends a beating heart, just like this woman ended the beating heart of her child. I know this article is not about abortion, so it is out of context. But never once did ILZIMA say that Caylee's (or the abortionists) murder was okay or justified. They were just stating it as just as ugly as abortion. I don't know how that has anything to do with being a good match for a taliban.
Chelsea06, If you don't like abortion then don't have one, simple as that, but it isn't. Why? because people like you want to dictate to others what is or is not proper. You want to control others, as simple as that. You want to be the decider for others. That is the most arrogant, selfish, self centered, self grandious attitute that one can have. This is America where despite people like you, their is "freedom of choice". Don't like it? tough, you will never outlaw aborton in this country, not now, not ever. So take your holyier than thou, I'm more saintly than you, and shove it.
The Taliban extols complete control over womans reproductive rights and their rights as a whole. Sister you are not far behind them in your desire for control over others. Just because YOU believe does not make the rest of us suckers, OK? And comparing the cold blooded murder of a citizen (Dr. Tiller + Caly)) to abortion shows how demented you truly are.
Oh JCB, how you LOVE to read between the lines. Did I ANYWHERE in that post of my response tell you that I was pro-life? I was just clarifying what the other person wrote because you were making pointless and stereotypical comments about where they belonged. If anyone has a "holier (not holyier, learn how to spell) than thou" attitude, it is you. You think YOU can pass judgements on those who ARE Pro-Life yet anyone who judges abortion to be wrong is bad? Judgements are bad. Period. So do not call me arrogant. Take a look in the mirror instead.
It's about time that this goes to trial. The United States Justice system is so slow. We need to adopt a system like so many other countries have. Trial within 6 months and let the punishment begin without TV, internet, etc. Never has seemed very fair to me that if you live in the US and you are a tax paying, law abiding citizen that you should have to help pay to house and feed criminals for years on end. I hope this is one woman that never gets the chance to play mommy again...
Capitol murder trials are always slow it is not because of the justice system...the justice system allows for a speedy trial. Capital murder lawyers will waive that right to have more time to prepare a defense. Which is the right of the accused.
Could not agree more with your post. The nutcases believe in murder if one happens to perform abortions, the law be damned.
As for Casey Anthony, I knew all I needed to know about that sick thing after finding out that she did not contact the police in regard to that baby. Any mother worth her salt ain't waiting to call the police if their child is missing. I speak from experience as years ago, my son did not come home when he was supposed to after playing with friends. After I could not locate him in our large apartment community, I did not hesitate to call the police who proceeded to go door to door in the complex until my son was located in the home of one of his friends. Hewas playing video games and forgot about the time. Took 10 years off of my life! Having to give a picture of your child to the police is just stomach turning and thankfully my son was fine but that is something I have never forgotten to this day and my son is now an adult. Casey Anthony cannot explain why she did not contact the police about her daughter and as such, has essentially hung herself. Oh, I forgot. She was conducting her own search for little Caylee. Guess she thought she would find her in a club having a drink. She's guilty. Ask any real mom.
When my son was 2 yrs old, he got out the house without me seeing him, scared me to death when i could not find him. I called the police immediately and they had to come out with thier dogs and track him. Thank God they found him and he was fine, so you can imagine what i was feeling when this beautiful little girl had been missing for a month and her mother did nothing. Total outrage! She didn't want to be bothered with the responsibility of taking care of her so she got rid of her. If she did not do this , she knows who did and did nothing to stop thwm. As far as i see it, she is just as guilty as the person or persons who did. She will not only answer to a court of law here on earth, she will also answer to God. Shame on her and her accomplises, whoever they may be. One more thing, has anyone thought her boyfriend could have done it and left while she disposed of her childs body? Something to think about.
if she didnt do it she knows who did. maybe it was her boyfriend and thats why he left. she could get rid of the body and he would honestly say he didnt know where she was if asked. i think she did it myself because no real mom wouldn't let it go for a month.
I agree Sandie. Your last comment spoke volumes and said it all. (Ask any Real Mom). It's true that our information comes from the media, that's the basis for most of our opinions. A commentor mentioned earlier that opinions don't convict. Opinions of the jurors, does convict. Ms. Anthony will have her trial. As each side presents their case, it will be in the hands of the jury. It doesn't matter what any of our thoughts or opinions are. As a mother of three and the bond I have with my children, I can't imagine or justify the choices Ms. Anthony, as a "mother" made. I believe she's guilty.
Yes, I also agree with Sandi ! I have a daughter and if anything ever happened to her, I sure as hell wouldn't be out clubbing and shopping with friends. How sick is that ? I'd be out of my mind if she ever went missing and on the phone immediately with the police. She is absolutely guilty !
Having known what an abusive home looks like from the inside and out I will be the first to say there are always two sides to every story. Do I believe she killed her daughter... sad to say it looks like she did. Is it within reasonable doubt... answer is yes until proven otherwise. Everyone wants to see justice done for this little girl, and IF her mother really did do these terrible things I hope she rots for eternity. That being said someone made a very valid point above... If her father was Abusive, and he had done something, when you are afraid for your own life it is hard to speak up... when you get to a point you are afraid to like/dislike or have an opinion on anything you simply know better than to speak in ANY negative manner against the abuser... I for one know I never had the nerve to call the cops on my abuser, even when his hand were tight around my neck- I also know if it were my child missing even he couldn't have kept me from getting help for them.
Am I saying she's innocent- Not even close, I am just saying that pictures, and phone messages and all other things mentioned could possibly fit another side of the story. Best case for her is she was just afraid to speak out... Even then lets hope she Never has more kids on account of a Mother is supposed to put her child first... ALWAYS!
Am I saying her father did it... NO... I am only saying that a Person is Innocent until PROVEN Guilty.
Lets all hope Justice is truly brought to this poor little girl.
AMEN AND PASS THE SALT!!!! I lost my little girl when she was 6 at an amusement park, she stopped to look at something without telling us....talk about PANIC!!!! I was instantly fear stricken and scared to death!! Fortunately she and we learned some good dang lessons about it, the hard way!! But no mother and i have 4 daughters who are mothers would go a half hour let alone a month without knowing where their child was!!! Shes a lying skank and needs the death penalty!
Right on Sandy I feel the exact same way you do! Why has it taken so long to get this woman before a judge? Because of her lies and false accusations, and this is just more of the same!! And if her mother is backing this, SHAME ON HER!!!!
Sandie - I agree, how can a parent NOT call the police if their child is missing. My sister used to wander away from the house on a regular basis and my parents called the police every single time. Luckily she was never hurt or taken, but if someone looked around the house and couldn't find her, the first thing we did was call the police, it's just common sense.
My 5 yr old son was missing 5 minutes and I was on the phone making calls. Thankfully he had fallen asleep on the bus and ended up making a long run but he was found almost immediately!
My other son went missing in the mall. took about 2 seconds to find a guard and have the mall dorrs locked down until he was spotted!
P.S. I was abused as a child.... that did not stop me from protecting my own! How absurd!
Guilty of child neglect...clearly. Guilty of being a spoiled brat...clearly. Guilty of lying to everyone, including police...clearly. Guilty of hiding her daughter's death...clearly. Guilty of actual murder...perhaps not. Trying to cover up an accidental death is just as plausible as trying to cover up a murder. Whether the grandparents are involved or not is irrelevant...only the TRUE cause of death is relevant to the murder vs accident determination.
I had a teen step-child who was a habitual liar on Casey's scale....took months to catch on to some of her scams, and only because I'm a lot smarter than her or her mother (my ex). Thank god she's no longer my responsibility.
why would Cindy do it and then call the cops?? Casey wanted to give Caylee up for adoption and Cindy told her she would disown her. If she (Cindy) wanted rid of Caylee that would have been her time. I think she knows what her daughter did and instead of lose two family members (one to death and the other to prison or death) she decided to start backing Casey. After all Caylee is gone and even if she told the truth that fact will never change.
Exactly, Caylee IS gone. Cindy and her husband know Casey did it and I can understand them not wanting to put the last nail in Casey's coffin, so to speak BUT this is exactly the type of behavior that put them all in spot where they are today. Covering up for their nutso daughter. There is zero chance that Casey will be returning to the bosom of her family and her "parents" need to be parents for once in their lives and do what is right for the truly innocent life that was lost here. Even now, it is all about Casey.
Nancy disGrace makes a lving off of other people's misery. When she's not applying her selective outrage, she's promoting her books or has a substitute host because she's on vacation every other week.
Cindy was not the one that murdered Caylee, Casey was. I do believe the parents are guilty for covering up the murder. I believe they knew long before Caylee was reported missing and here are my reasons.
Cassey and Caylee lived with them, did they not think it was odd Caylee was not home for all that time? Cindy said the car smelled like a dead body was in it then changed her story. Those two things alone would be probable cause for them to be an accomplice in my oppinion.
I am sorry but this is just a horrific story I could not imagine killing anyone let alone my own child. Its just not right, they all need to be in prison as far as I am concerned.
Casey and Caylee had moved out before Caylee went missing. But I agree that Casey's parents seem to be covering for her and have been since practically the beginning.
After watching the jury selection, I believe that Casey's defense is going to be that Casey Anthony found Caylee dead and then because of the abuse she sustained in her life from her parents both mentally and physically, she panicked.
OR,
They are going to try to accuse Kronk (the meter man that found Caylee)
Baez says that we will know what happened in the first minute of his opening statements.
If I was on trial for my life, I don't think Jose Baez would be my choice as the person representing me. Seems to me as time has passed, he realizes that his client is missing a few brain cells. Why just last week he told her she was acting like a two year old. I just hope this judge is on top of his game. I'll bet we won't know what happened in the first minute of his opening statement.
Baez is going to let us know what we already know. She might have pulled this murder off if she would have contacted the police within 24 hours of Caylee's disappearance and when the story broke you and I know that her parents know exactly what happened and now of course they are siding with their baby girl.
How ironic! I think she could have had a much better chance of getting away with it if she had called the police. She would have had to concoct a different story but hey, she's got a million of 'em.
Baez is the DEFENSE attorney. He is not going to tell what happened in his opening statement because he has to provide a defense for his client, not convict her!
Yeah Baby, this Party Animal of a girl is heading to the party of her life. No more ice cold Coronas and lap dances for her. Oh life is so much easier when you don't have children getting in the way of your social life. Those mamas in jail are going to love her when she arrives.
Bottom line is it is tragic and it is ours to own. You people shredding carcasses are lower than the sick people. You should know better and be better.
I don't think this woman (guilty or not) can get a "fair" trial in this country. Just look at all the people here who are convinced she is guilty based on what the media has told them. Not a single one of them has seen all the evidence--but their minds are made up. Based on what we have seen she looks guilty--note I said looks not is. I think the concept of innocent until PROVEN guilty is dead in this country, maybe that will get some scumbags off the streets but I fear it's going to get some innocent people caught up in our rush to judgement. Perhaps not in this case but all one has to do is look at the file of the Innocence Project, it's a relative few but the fact that there are innocent people in jail even as we speak bothers me and I wish it bothered more people. I hope what we get in this case is justice--and not a lynch mob by proxy. (And again I don't know if she is guilty--but I don't have all the evidence and not being involved in the case I never will simply saying " I have followed this case from the start" does not make me or anyone else an expert not does it mean we have all the facts).
So here is a question for the experts. I have a friend who's child disappeared and had never been found. When is too soon for a mother to go out after such a tragedy one month, one year, ten years, never? It looked way too soon in this case---but I'm curious what people would consider a reasonable period.
i would assume your friend CALLED THE POLICE to search for her missing child. Casey skipped that step and went straight to clubbing and drinking. the two cases are completely different.
UMM - When someone has a missing child, typically the first thing they do is call the police. In this case, she did not call authorities or even attempt to find her daughter before she started her partying. I think she has done a well enough job proving her own guilt. Theres not a mother in this world who would not report their child missing unless they had something to lose from reporting it.
Im sure your friend reported their child missing, and really, the time frame for when you can start partying after a child is missing really has nothing to do with this...its the fact that Casey Anthony was out partying while her daughter was missing and had told absolutely no one about it and was not even attempting to locate her.
Austinitey, truer words were never spoken...."Theres not a mother in this world who would not report their child missing unless they had something to lose from reporting it"
Seriously? Did your friend report the disappearance immediately? If so, there lies the difference. Did your friend lead police on a wild goose chase for a babysitter, or place of employment? If not, again, there's the difference.
It isn't a matter of when it's too soon to go 'out'. Parents report their children missing immediately...not a month later. Caylee wasn't a teenager who ran off, she was a toddler dependent upon her mother.
Just these few facts bother the general public - and they SHOULD be bothered.
As for the 'innocent until proven guilty' - that is exactly how the system works. Jurors cannot discuss anything until they are sequestered for the verdict at the end of the case by both the defense and prosecution. The system does work.
"Not a single one of them has seen all the evidence--but their minds are made up."
To take it a step further, nobody has seen any evidence yet, since the trial hasn't started. The jury can only consider the facts that are admitted into evidence during the trial's case-in-chief. They cannot consider anything they have seen, read or heard up until the trial begins.
I agree with the concept that it's impossible to find a jury of people that have heard nothing about the case. But what is the solution? The Judge brought in jurors from out of Orlando, which won't make much difference. Even jurors from another state would probably have heard something.
If we're going to limit the jury pool to people who have absolutely no clue about this case, we're talking about the most mentally disabled, ignorant, people in society. No offense, but those aren't the people that should be hearing the facts of a murder case.
I assume that in this case, as in most criminal cases, the jury will be allowed to decide, if they find that she killed her daughter, whether it was first degree, or second degree, or voluntary manslaughter, or involuntary manslaughter, etc. It seems to me, based on a very incomplete understanding of what the evidence may turn out to show, that this is going to be the real issue. (That is, if she locked the child in the trunk so she could party without getting a sitter, and the child suffocated, it would not be first degree if she didn't intend death, but sure would be at least manslaughter as well as child abuse etc.)
Do I think the jury will believe she killed her daughter? Yes, I can't imagine them coming to any other conclusion - although, again, none of us know what evidence will be presented to them. Leaving aside the behavior such as partying (which I guess she had done all along), and the pathetic and pathological lying about things that could be easily disproved (like her supposed job - that's just weird!), personally I can't get past the fact that not only did she not call the police when "the babysitter kidnapped her daughter," but she also did not even tell her parents that her daughter had disappeared - they apparently had to ask her where the child was because she had not been seen for so long.
I, like some above, am opposed to the death penalty on principle - I would not pull the switch myself, and I refuse to authorize the State do it in my name. On the other hand, I have no problem at all with "cruel and unusual punishment" in a case like this - the more cruel, the better - and if she is convicted, a life spent rotting in prison seems like an excellent revenge by society.
UMM-289921 - I am the mother of 5, grandmother of 8 and can tell youif one of my children turned up missing at the age of 2, I would immediately be totally frantic, calling family, the police, neighbors and friends to try to find the little one. When this story first broke, it was the fact that it was her MOTHER who called the police when Casey finally let them know the child had been missing for a MONTH that made me suspicious of any mother who would withhold those facts from FAMILY AND FROM THE POLICE!
I certainly don't have all the facts, or even any of them, but what could possibly possess a parent who would let a toddler go "missing" without telling their immediate world so everyone could be searching? A toddler can't take care of themselves without help from others.
I know I could never be on this jury because as a mother I know Casey Anthony is not and has not been telling the truth at any time during this whole case. Her credibility has been irretrievably damaged. Perhaps the true story will never be known, but we do know the child is dead and the mother's behavior has been abnormal throughout this whole case. I would have been a basket case with tears flowing constantly and would have asked for help. She was such a beautiful and loving child, she shouldn't have had to die as she did.
Once, on a nice summer day many years ago, one of my children didn't come in from playing after a few hours (she was probably 10 years old at the time). When it got to be dusk and the other kids came in from play, no one knew where she was. We had family who lived a few houses away and on checking with them she was not there. At that point I picked up the phone and called the police! She was found in a very short time (less than an hour), having taken a bicycle ride to the park without telling anyone. Someone found her and brought her and her bicycle home. I will never forget the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when I didn't know where she was. (This was waayyyyyy before cell phones.)
They've proven that Caylee was missing for over a month and that Casey never reported the child missing. Ever.
They've proven that she disposed of a car that had an odor in the trunk described by more than one person - including her own mother - as that of a dead body.
They've proven that Casey lied about having a babysitter (the house she claimed was the sitter's hadn't been occupied in far longer than the timeframe she gave). She lied about having a job. She's lied about many other aspects of this case.
They've proven that the things Caylee's body were found with were consistent with what was with her the last time she was seen with Casey.
There's lots of other incriminating evidence in this case as well that'd take up too much space to rehash. My question is: Just how much proof is needed to figure out someone's guilty of a covered-up murder?
There's a difference between keeping an open mind and ignoring what's blatantly obvious.
We are all broken people. Realize that and make changes. Many of you make comments that make murder look like a walk. Your vicarious visciousness is more of a problem. This will never get better until we realize we are all sick one way or another. Murderers aren't always monsters, but monsters are. There are a lot of us in here. Lots of rocks thrown.
Wow. Alot of people are broken. That has nothing to do with the fact that this "thing of a mother" killed her daughter and is now throwing her father under the bus. Sorry - you are entitled to your opinion, just like the rest of us. If you kill someone, you are a monster. NEWSFLASH: It's against the law to kill someone. I'm just wondering who is sicker - Casey or Jose? How on earth could he even come up with this insane theory after 3 years that her Dad did it? And he expects 12 people to buy this story? I find the jurors amazing. The only way you could not have heard of this trial is if you were in a COMA or living on another planet.
No one has seen the evidence because there is very little, photos of Caylee's little skeleton, and some items found where the body was dumped. There will be very little forensic evidence, no water in the lungs because there was no lungs or any other soft tissues, just some hair attached to duct tape.
For those that doubt that Cindy and George can identify the smell of decomposition, a similar smell can be found along any roadside in Florida, it's either animal or human, could be one or the other down here since so many people are dumped by the side of the roads here.
I was sexually and physically abused child for many years, and while I can identify with not saying anything about the abuse as a child, you bet I said something later, which didn't go well with my family, but I never abused or killed my children, if anything I was over protective. I still am with my grandchildren.
This drowning defense...is just to cause reasonable doubt in the minds of the jurors, it doesn't explain the duct tape. Also, if that were true, Casey or her father should have called 911, he denied it.
If Casey doesn't get the death penalty at trial, but is convicted of murder, she will still pay for it in prison, and lethal injection will be like a day at the beach in comparison.
I don't know what in hell you are talking about. Many people have problems. They don't go about killing their children to solve them. You sir, do sound like YOU are broken. Here's hoping you can get fixed.
If you know anything about psychopaths, then it is clear that Casey Anthony is one. I have no doubt that she killed her daughter and is probably manipulating her parents somehow into covering for her. Seriously.
Well then, psychosis removes the responsibility for one's actions. Even if she murdered her child there can be mitigating circumstances unknown to any here. We're all involved in the problem. Some show symptoms more than others.
Thank you for the link. I would love to see what I missed today. I do feel she is guilty. I don't know that I buy the drowning and George helping her dispose of the body because "your mother will never forgive you for this" as Jose stated. I mean an accident is just that. However if it had been me the pool is the first place that I would have looked, not all around the house first. We will never know what really happened. The girl lies about everything. How you go 31 days with a missing child and not contacting police is way out of reality for the rest of the world. No parent I know anyway. I can understand that they want to believe in their daughter. She is their child and they love her. That being said, I can't believe that they can actually "like" her. I don't think that George Anthony could have known all about it and kept it together all those months. If she had been abused by her father you would think that the first thing that she would have done would be to get her daughter out of her father's home to protect her. Seems like common sense to me but then I guess that common sense just isn't that common any more. I used to be a very strong proponent for the death penalty. Now that there is DNA I have softened my stance considerably. I also have begun to feel that the needle in ones arm is really the easy way out. Back up the line one poster commented that he felt that with lwop would be a way that Casey could just get comfortable in her circumstances and live with it and all that. I don't recall his exact wording but basically she would just settle in and be comfortable. I don't want her to settle in and be comfortable. I do want her to feel the axe over her head every day of the rest of her life. That beautiful little girl that we have seen in all of the pictures and videos, I can hear her musical little laugh, see her beautiful smile and those gorgeous eyes. Caylee Anthony should still be here, laughing and happy, going to school, learning and living and just being that happy child her grandparents loved so much. In her room it looks like a full length mirror on the back of the door. Grandma won't even dust it as she is afraid she will erase Caylee's little fingerprints that are on there. I agree that George and Cindy are in denial but I do feel for them. They lost their beautiful granddaughter and also are losing their daughter. Cindy tried to see her awhile back and Casey refused. They haven't talked in well over 2 years. That has to hurt. The main focus now is Caylee. Justice for Caylee!
I got ticked off today when Jose asked George if itwas pretty easy for Caylee to get out of the house by herslef and he smiled and said yes...as if...ain't she cute...Well some cop..what about safety, if you knew she was opening doors and you had a pool in the back yard why not put extra locks on the doors and gate around the pool? Dumbass!
ya know everyone keeps raggin on Casey but nothing is ever said about George and Cindy...they claim to have cared for their grandaughter 90% of the time, so how in the world can they go an entire month without seeing her and not report it untill after the car was found "smelling like death"? I think they are hiding something as well, I think they knew what happened to that child and they let it go as well to protect whoever did actually kill her. Remember George is a retired police officer, he knows how long it takes for a body to decompose beyond the point of anyone being able to perform an autopsy, he knew this would come down to "forensic" evidence...wonder why it is he wanted to commit suicide? Guilty conscience?
Raven...you don't think she should be put to death??? You wonder who's paying for her defense??? This is a stepping stone for Baez...Career inducer if you would...Who do you think will be paying for her to be incarcerated for a lifetime??? Oh that's right...the law abiding tax paying citizens of the good ole USA...some of us don't want her vacationing on our dime thanks!!
whatever happened to just feeding inmates water and bread? they watch tv, send emails, have exercise time etc. Jail should be actual punishment. At least with the chain gangs they were working. We owe these inmates nothing. My father used to say that if worse came to worse he'd just get himself in jail. At least you get to watch tv and get 3 meals a day. Obviously my father is a real winner. Seems to me the death penalty would be better for this child-killer.
Totally agree!! She's probably banging the guards anyway so she has 3 squares, roof over her head, play dates, social time with TV and internet, men at her disposal. What more could a killer ask for???
Justice should be served in her case. She is guilty as sin. It's obvious she did it, just by her own statements and non-action in trying to find her child. Who does that? She wanted her FREEDOM, plain and simple. She wanted to party and booze it up, not spend her money on raising a child and babysitters.
@ B Young-3519104: I hope the guards are smarter than that. And "playdates"? I think that the inmates have already tried and convicted her and are waiting to carry out the sentencing!
@ B Young-3519104: I hope the guards are smarter than that. And "playdates"? I think that the inmates have already tried and convicted her and are waiting to carry out the sentencing!
Well, in Montana the Director was not smarter than that. He took Becky Richards, convicted of murdering her husband because he found out she was embezelling $ from their company, out to dinner at the Red Lobster! Things like this cause a media circus but nothing much is done to stop it.
I cant believe she have the nerve to plea "not guilty". She is guilty 100% and deserve what's coming to her. How could you mistreat an innocent child like Kaylee and go party your butt off like nthing happened? Blaming it on an non-exixtent babysitter...how convenient!!!!
Cindy had time to work on him. For a while after his suicide attempt, he looked like he may have been medicated. Didn't seem as alert as he usually looked. Also just could have been worn down from everything that was going on. I think he wanted to do the right thing but his wife persuaded him to do otherwise. Also, what about the brother. Haven't heard anything about him lately except the rumor that Casey was going to blame him and the dad for molesting her. I think if that lying POS Casey would have talked to anyone, it would have been her brother.
The parents appear to have real problems with speaking the truth themselves. Sad for the little girl, but she was most likely doomed the minute this family chose to not put her up for adoption.
I think there is something very "wrong" about her but, just so we are clear, all a "not guilty" plea means in a criminal case is that the defendant has said to the State, "prove it" (which, in this case, I think they will be able to do if half of what I read is true). Similarly, of course, a verdict of "not guilty" is by no means the same as "innocent" but means only that the jury finds that the State did not prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
So much has been made of the pictures of Casey A partying in the 31-day period. In order for the defense to counter those pictures, I would be interested in seeing/knowing if there were similar pictures of Casey PRIOR to that time. If not, that would give some credibility to the contention that she was reacting in a traumatic way and to some extent "explain" her actions during that time period.
I imagine there were photos of Casey partying prior to Caylee missing. Which would only further explain why she wanted to get rid of Caylee. Partying was a lot more fun than caring for a 2 year old.
If your 2 yr old child is missing or kidnapped as you claim, what kind of traumatic reaction is hitting the clubs? She wasn't just there having a drink to calm her nerves, she was the center of the party. She was having a blast because she was finally free!
Oh, the fallacy of speaking from conviction. There could be a number of explanations for her behavior, trauma being one of them. In any case, I suspect your judgement and reasoning ability. Oh, you're still here? Go figure.
She named a babysitter who did not know her or little Caylee. Just one of her initial lies. Was trying to throw police off her own tail in their investigation.
I'm not exactly sure how we justify trying a mother for murdering a post-birth child
And all this time we thought that we were a nation of laws when we´re actually a nation of caprice.
She deserves to rot in hell. A disgusting, monster of a person. And her parents to revert to outright lying is beyond pathetic.
Actually, the defense doesn't have to prove anything. It all rests on the prosecution to make their case. I hope they do.
Maureen-2162031
precisely,
JBC
My feelings exactly! Put her to death the same way she killed her 2 year old daughter.
And those parents-they need to be jailed for multiple reasons (pick one.)
They make you sick-when thinking about it.
death penalty is a get out of jail free card for Ms. Anthony. why would we want to do that? and again, (and again) what sense does it make to say "you're bad and horrible and you killed someone so we are going to kill you!!" ridiculous.
first, she should @!$%# in prison for the rest of her miserable life having to think about what she did to her daughter.
second, who on earth is paying for all her "high powered defense experts"? didn't realize she or her parents had that kind of money.
as for THEM, i believe they are covering something up for her.
No doubt she is GUILTY!
Mother is a nurse, father a retired cop. Both would know what a dead body smells like, ergo mother's statement during 911 call.
Because she is a nurse.
Ok, sure....... still not convinced. Maybe she's mentally disturbed, doesn't make her a killer.
This from the article update.....
Party photos? Why do they need explaining. Just because you wouldn't party doesn't mean other wouldn't. Preconceived opinions and emotions should not convict anyone. Proof and solid evidence not conjecture and speculation.
Act I, Scene I - Defendant cries...to be repeated ad nauseam
@Vicky613
Defense up at 1:10 PM. Baez and Anthony looking a little ill after prosecution's opening statement.
PheaNiques is one of those who
I think these comments are right on! Who cares about the legal process; she lied and didn't show remorse for her missing daughter, who, most people would conclude she didn't want to begin with. They should just lynch her based on Hear-say. If these comments represent my 'peers', then, I cringe at the thought of most of you sitting on a jury and deciding my fate.
say it ;;zanny the nanny.......hmmmmm.....
Why are people surprised the parents are lying? Isn't there quite history of that in their backgrounds as well? They're all nuts, and obviously they created a sociopathic murderer. At least the parents are too old to breed again.
WildinAustin,
The situation you describe would best be described as Man-slaughter and child neglect. Not Murder. The most important being that they carry distinctly different punishments.
The odor of death is not the odor of decomposition. Generally people are not left to rot in hospitals.
Julie,
As nurse, the smell is something you don't forget, and certainly would never confused with rotting pizza.
I once caught a mouse and didn't notice the trap had been sprung. The smell alerted me. Once you smell it, you'll never forget it and could instantly recognize it again.
Whoa - headline change....
Julie-1468472
A police dog also detected the smell of a decaying body in the trunk of the car. Those dogs are trained for that.
If she drowned in pool wouldn't there be evidence in the body?
If the grandparents were in on it since the beginning then the grandmother would have never called 911 to report Caylee missing and the smell in her daughter's car in the first place. And Casey would of turned on her parents when this all started. I haven't heard what the grandparents reaction has been since she blamed them, interesting to see how they react now since they had been pretty supportive of her thus far.
KAREN- Chillax. MSNBC updates the article and adds info as we go, this morning the headline read something about forensic evidence and didn't have anything about the case going to the swimming pool defense until this afternoon.
Terri -
Good point. I know they were never able to determine the actual cause of death. The official ruling was "homicide by undetermined means" or something like that. But it would be interesting to see if they could rule out any causes...like drowning.
Does Jose Baez really believe his own opening statement?
There was no body to autopsy, there was only a skeleton with some hair on the skull. Impossible to tell the cause of death if no bones were broken.
o.m.g. she is more horrendous (if that is even possible) than i thought. if her father had been molesting her all those years, WHY wouldn't she have come forward?
i believed that the mother/father were covering up for her .. but to turn around and say this now?
all of this, whoever is responsible, all of them .. should be held accountable.
What is CHILLAX? Is that like ExLAX?
If so, how disgusting and how dare you speak to me like that. Who do you think you are?
What point exactly are you trying to make? You DID NOT succeed except in calling someone a name.
I was super tired of people reading the arguments talking about whether the parents know what a dead body smells like. How in the world does that relate to your comment?
It does not. That is called non-sequitir.
It is clear to me that Casey Anthony is a psychopath. Many of them are very convincing. Her assisting her defense included coming up with this cockamamie story. It probably does fit the evidence which they have been reviewing for at least a year.
This whacked out family deserves each other, crazy parents spawn crazy daughter. That little girl had no chance of surviving.
You have to be mentally ill to think such a thing with all the lies she has told.
What? and Who Cares?
FedupwithFed
It would not be easy for me.
u know what really bothers me is these attorneys who defend her.
Karen in Los Angeles
I DO live in Florida, not far from the scene of the crime… and it has been all over the news here since this happened. I think I have heard more information than you have. The whole thing sounded fishy from the beginning. Unlike you, I will listen to ALL of the evidence before I convict. Everyone has convicted her before the trial even began. What happened to innocent until PROVEN guilty?
You can’t convict on a THEORY! There are no supposed witnesses.
No wonder Casey is screwed up in the head…talk about a dysfunctional family! How do YOU know she didn’t drown?
I’ve been a nurse for 29 years and can’t tell you what a decomposed dead body smells like.
And cops never do anything illegal...

I suppose the defense will come up with their own rotten concoction to have the jurors smell to show them there is no way to know if the smell was human or animal meat.
lol, They won`t make the jury smell the carpet that would just be ridiculously silly and completely worthless.
Actually, NBForest, they are ACTUALLY making the jury smell carpet pieces FROM HER CAR!! Or, didn't you see that part?
LOL, wow thats crazy.
To chillax is something totally out of her range of her capabilities. Leaping to rude assumptions is a style continuously demonstrated. I like it when others point that out here.
fredup
Like I said, it's too bad you are not on the jury.
My mind is made up on this one because the KEY evidence has already been disclosed:
I don't care how this poor child died. Her mother is responsible. I've heard all the evidence I need to hear thanks to Nancy Grace and the media.
CAgina
I could care less what you think if it is not obvious to you yet.
Most legal professionals let the system work. Nancy Grace is a drama queen...and caters to the hysterical.
Why do people say they "could" care less...when they "couldn't" ?
Most legal professionals abhor litigation by media...
Contradict much?
You must work in a dental office because this is ludicrous to me.
Good luck.
DevAvo: Well said...it's her way...all over the vine...
Fortunately she doesn't respond to me...but I get my points across.
ALL THE YELLING UNDER THE GUISE THAT THIS IS HOW LEGAL PROFESSIONALS PUT EMPHASIS TO THEIR POINTS.
She doesn't care at all how it makes her posts appear...it's amazing.
Karen,
Every person deserves a fair trial and with a competent lawyer.
I know I would not.
Kinko
I think the jury in Nevada did a good job when they put OJ Simpson away for - 20 years was it?
The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed.
I`ve smelled a living body that had gangrene, thats a smell you dont want to ever want to smell again.
Tam
Tam,
I don't act like Casey either.
Her father testified that he smelled what smelled like a dead body in the car and it concerned him.
I don't think she'll get the death penalty, which she deserves, but life in a Florida prison will be worse than death.
as it should be in all.
Life in prison would be horrible, but why should the taxpayer be burdened with supporting her for another 60-70 years?
scales - the problem is, a death sentence actually costs more than life w/o parole.
By father I mean this casey girl's father. I just remember seeing him some years ago when this happened. Seemed like a creepy dude.
""but life in a Florida prison will be worse than death."""
Not in Cali, they call Jail's Hospitals now!
Atascadero State Hospital
Coalinga State Hospital
Gotta love this country, cuz you can't like it!
bedbug007-
Atascadero and Coalinga ARE Hospitals.
Sorry, I can't help but believe it's for reallocation of tha $$$$$$$$$! Somebodies pet project, period!
I have also read many articals and each home page, 5 star hotel/hospital/jail for convicted rapist.
IT"S WRONG!!!
Camgie,
I am "mostly" against the death penalty but WOW, you make a really great point.
I was a single parent and raised both my children from the time my oldest was 6 and my youngest was 4. and If either one of them had went missing, I damn sure wouldn't have been out partying. but I would have moved heaven and hell to find them. what a sorry excuse for a mother. the death penalty would be to merciful for her
Rescue Dogs,
Me too! I would prefer the death penalty to life in prison! But especially if I were Casey. It is catching up with her of the horror of what she did. I am sure this trial will be torture for her and I am quite pleased to see it!
Google
Californie Lawyer Magazine Coalinga State Hospital!!!
Trapped in the Treatment Mall For some California sex offenders, prison is just the start of their confinement.
Though parts of it look like a shopping mall, Coalinga State Hospital is a treatment facility for sex offenders who may never be freed.
September 2008
By Tom McNichol
We can be sure that health care costs will continue to rise and in 35 years when she will be 60 years old health care costs will be very high and she will be needing a lot more health care at that age.
.
exactly what most people on here actually KNOW to be a fact.
i know a little and i can guess the rest...i rest my case...well 19 bottle's of it anyway...stay drunk my friends...
Comment # 5 deleted. Abortion derail.
If the defense attorney is claiming that Caylee drowned, wouldn't that be evident in an autopsy, even with decomposition?
Seems odd.
PJ....I think the child was skeletonized mostly.
Except that she did not actually have a job at Universal Studios and lied to police about that too.
@Cassandra
Which is why the prosecution will be allowed to introduce evidence of her partying the night away both before, and after her daughter's disappearance/murder. The partying/drinking was not a break in her pattern - she did it all the time. What was she trying to "forget" during the first 2 years of her daughter's life?
Cassandra, what's just as sad as your post is the fact that 3 people supposedly liked it.
cassandra view in a song;;she went to the wild party... to remanience with her old friends..but it's all right now... she learned her lesson well...
Cassandra - please don't breed.
If they hadn't reported Caylee missing, Casey would still be out there getting loaded and probably making more babies she didn't want.
what planet are you from. nothing you said made any sense. i hope that you don't have any children.
Party after a death? How unthinkable... unless you call it a wake.
It would be understandable to want to forget a death, or even celebrate a life and even people who murder sometimes feel regret and want to forget.
I'm not defending the skank, just sayin....
she has already been tried by the press and found guilty by the people on this board. isn't that enough? what more could they possibly need..........
I agree..why waste the tax payers money on a trial...after all with a trial you never know the outcome until its over.
I agree, I would never want a jury trial. At least a judge has an education and experience in the courtroom, I would want him to decide my fate.
Take you insane believe system with you, and don't let the door hit on the way out, nutcase.
well put
Took the words right out of my mouth, thank you.
Very true, but for some people fear mongering is the same as fact.
i thought you all said earlier that this is off topic in this thread. so then WHY do you keep flaming the subject?? because you want to one up? because you want to show how intelligent you are? because you want to show that you have a better argument?
To JCB: You're totally right, this person belongs with the Taliban! Send her there!
@ JCB: ILZIMA is a complete idiot....But sending her to the Taliban? That's just as stupid as comparing abortion to murdering a 2 year old child.
Get a life. This case does not hinge on abortion rights and should not be used as a platform to discuss social issues.
Please get back on topic
Oh JCB, how you LOVE to read between the lines. Did I ANYWHERE in that post of my response tell you that I was pro-life? I was just clarifying what the other person wrote because you were making pointless and stereotypical comments about where they belonged. If anyone has a "holier (not holyier, learn how to spell) than thou" attitude, it is you. You think YOU can pass judgements on those who ARE Pro-Life yet anyone who judges abortion to be wrong is bad? Judgements are bad. Period. So do not call me arrogant. Take a look in the mirror instead.
DNFTT
Someone should have put you down when you were born.
I think there should be cameras in every courtroom, just to keep everyone honest and on the up and up, so to speak.
@JCB
Nusa: "Trying to cover up an accidental death is just as plausible as trying to cover up a murder."
Under what accidental death circumstances would the deceased be found with masking tape over his/her mouth and nose?
It's obvious that Cindy did it. I've been wathching this whole case since it started. Nancy Grace cuts off anyone who does not agree with her opinion.
why would Cindy do it and then call the cops??
AGREE!!
Well said, Sandie.
She couldn't call the police because they would ask her why the duct tape was over her nose and mouth.
Those mamas in jail are going to love her when she arrives.
exactly
What do you mean by "going out"? Partying?
i would assume your friend CALLED THE POLICE to search for her missing child.
There it is in a nutshell.....
Innocent till proven guilty.
Kedbob7
BS
Dee,
Exactly!
For anyone interested in watching here is the link to the trial online http://www.wesh.com/casey-anthony-extended-coverage/interactive.html
This is great, thank you! I was wondering if there was live coverage
They are trying to protect their POS daughter. They are lying trash too.
Try mental hygiene.
Binky ... i was thinking the same thing!
I am sure on some level they knew she was gone within the first week.
It's not your dime, you cheapskate.

The FACT IS... SHE KILLED HER LITTLE GIRL!!
Lillie,
the ALLEGATION is that she killed her little girl. The facts are not established.
whatever happened to just feeding inmates water and bread? they watch tv, send emails, have exercise time etc.
Things like this cause a media circus but nothing much is done to stop it.
to SCOOTER TRAMP
the FACT is she killed her little girl!!
I heard Joran Van der sloot wants to date Casey
Match made in bloody hell!!
Is it wrong to wish he had met her?
Both of them like to party and both of them like to dispose of anyone who gets in the way of their social life
They deserve each other.
I cant believe she have the nerve to plea "not guilty". She is guilty 100% and deserve what's coming to her. How could you mistreat an innocent child like Kaylee and go party your butt off like nthing happened? Blaming it on an non-exixtent babysitter...how convenient!!!!
Well I am surprised that her parents are supporting her. For awhile there it looked like her dad was ready to throw her under the bus.
I believe the prosecution will be able to prove motive and oppurtunity, maybe even method.
Go figure.
Thank you for your opinion, but thank god you aren't on the jury! She would never get her just due!
Really??? The babysitter she cannot name or find???
Maybe the baby sitter came from one of those temp agencies famous for exploiting illegals and of course the temp agency lost all of the records
She named a babysitter who did not know her or little Caylee. Just one of her initial lies. Was trying to throw police off her own tail in their investigation.
So, you bring the marshmallows, Ill bring the chocolate and graham crackers. S'mores anyone? I thing the word roast sounds a little better than fry...
