Will President Obama's suggestion on 1967 borders move the Israelis and Palestinians closer to a two-state agreement?
President Barack Obama delivered a major speech on the Middle East on Thursday and in a key portion said that Israel should agree to revert to the 1967 borders to achieve a two-state solution with the Palestinians. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected any withdrawal to what he called "indefensible" 1967 borders.

I think Israel should do it because we all know that the scum bags that would get their own area would still attack Israel. The palis getting what they want wont change a thing because Israel will still be there. At least this way though, Israel will prove their point and could move forward as necessary afterward. Otherwise it will continue to fall on the Jews for not being cooperative.
It's just a very bad situation created by the Allies after WWII. I don't see a good solution, and I don't think going back to the 1967 borders will make much of a difference - other than to make it easier to attack Israel.
Obama is a fool is he thinks he can dictate mid-east peace and all he has really done is give the Islamic terrorist ammunition to blow up more Israelis.
The big eared jug headed idiot thinks he knows what's best for the Arabs and the Jews. Where was he after Israel gave up the West Bank? Where was he after they gave up Gaza? What happened after Israel gave up these lands? The Arabs still wanted them dead. The Arabs don't want peace with Israel they want the Jews driven into the sea. This guy is he biggest moron I've seen come down the pike in a long time.
So Dick,
As I understand it, your rational is the arabs are not even worth attempting to work with because they are stubborn and irrational. However, I'd point out the very survival of Israel depends upon peaceful relations with its neighbors, because otherwise it is a nation doomed to fail eventually.
They MUST figure out a way to work with those around them. Their enemies are only going to get better and better weapons until eventually Israel won't be able to defend itself. It may not be now, or in the next ten years, but it will happen.
If land reparations are the first step in the process, so be it. I don't think it will make the arabs their friends overnight, but without these steps all future peace negotiations are predestined to fail.
This conflict has been going on for decades before President Obama was born. What makes him think he can wave a wand over a map and everyone will be amazed and say "Why didn't we think of that?"
To be fair, nobody's plan would ever work. These people have been screaming at each other for eons and neither side will ever be able to compromise.
It sucks. If only people would just learn to get along...
I will still give the man some credit for trying. Really - every president has done something along the same lines.
EngEsq,
LOL! Yes my rational is that the Arabs are irrational. Thanks for putting it so succinctly. When have the Arabs proven they can be rational when it comes to Israel. I would caution about referencing Egypt and Sadat. That appears to be unraveling and Obama's speech didn't help matters.
Israel already tried land reparations. It didn't work. Where have you been?
In a word ARROGANCE.
Where was he when Israel stole Jerusalem. oh he wasn't president yet. Obama will go down as one of the greatest president that ever lived. I wouldn't be surprised if he was elected world president in 2020. As for Obama not instantly fixing everything, well he's not god --------------------------- yet.
There is now no doubt where Barack HUSSEIN Obama's loyalties lie. He is pro-Arab and anti-Israel and no friend of the Jews. We all know or should know that President Obama is NOT, repeat: NOT a Muslim, but his father was Muslim, his middle name is Hussein and he spent his formative years in a Muslim country. Therefore, Islam is very much a part of his heritage and his identity as a man, and his Islamic heritage is dictating his foreign policy agenda. This is something that President Obama and his supporters have just not been open and honest about with themselves and the public.
As for Israel returning to the 1967 borders and giving more of its rightful land away to the Evil Religion, remember the old saying "If you give a rat a piece of cheese he'll want a cracker with it." The Evil Religion will not be satisfied until Israel is entirely within Evil Religion control and the last Jew has been exiled or killed. If Israel were to fall into Evil Religion hands, there WILL be genocide, you can bet your life on it. The question would be come not if, but when the killing of non-Muslims will begin.
If Israel was to agree, and they won't, then Jerusalem would end up like many of the other Holy places destroyed by Islam. Christian churches are being burned in Egypt right now. Hindu Temples were destroyed by the Muslims. The tomb of Joseph was destroyed by the Palestinians. Muslims built a mosque in nearly every single one of these holy places as a victory mosque.
Key point as a Christian try to visit Bethlehem. Not a chance unless you want to be a martyr.
C'mon everybody... Let's just acknowledge that the middle east is just one big community in need of a professional community organizer. And we've got JUST the man for the job!
Dick,
I have no love for islam or the middle east, but just because large political groups may be unworkable does not mean that Israel should just stop trying and bomb the hell out of there neighbors whenever there is provocation.
I know land reparations haven't worked in the past, but any peace strategy without it is doomed to fail. No matter what. Israelis need to understand this.
The best thing that ever happened for the Muslim thugs in the Mid-East is Obama. He will continue to favor the enemies of human rights over the Israelis. As said above, the Muslims surrounding Israel have one paramount goal, the death and destruction of the Jews. Just read the Koran, Hadith and Sira of Muhammad. They will never live in peace with non-Muslims.
God have mercy on the United States of America. We are turning our backs on Israel and we will be held accountable. Why the blindness? The palestinians don't want Israeli lands--They want the entire Jewish race annihilated. Pick up some history books folks...why don't their Arab brothers give them land??? This is so much bigger than it appears. Wake Up!
Yesm EngEsq,
However, Obama went way beyond land reparations with this ill-considered speech. Why does Israel have the Golan Heights? I'll give you a clue, there is a very good reason.
So... let me get this straight, Mabel. If Obama doesn't support Israel, he must sympathize with "Arabs"? I guess we should just ignore that Israel has turned parts of Palestine into literal ghettos with no running water and very poor conditions. That's perfectly acceptable.
Now, before you accuse me of siding with the "Arabs" because I disagree with you, let's make one thing clear. The Palestinians share plenty of blame. Attacking Israel for years and years is not conductive to peace at all. However, before Israel was created, many Jews lived in Palestine in peace. That's a fact.
By the way, where do you get the idea that the land Israel has taken since its creation is rightfully theirs? If the international community decided tomorrow to take Maryland and give it to an ethnic Chinese minority as an independent sovereign nation, and then over the next twenty years expanded into Delaware through military aggression, would you say that is their rightful land?
Mabel and a WHOLE lot of POSTERS here,
know ABSOLUTELY nothing about the History between Israel and
Palestine, nor FOREIGN POLICY.
What Obama proposed today was MASTERFUL and BRILLIANT!
Kudos to the President.
Go back even further in your history, not just the last 100 years. God gave that land to Israel and anyone who defends Israel, God will defend. Anyone who curses Israel, God will curse. You can choose to believe it or not, but at the end of the day the truth will be known to all. I find it interesting that the United States is on the verge of ruin (We have been turning our backs on Israel) and yet people still refuse to believe God.
So if Bush would have suggested this, then all you righties would avhe been for it !
Israel has no support for their land grab. Not even the US. They have been lying to the world since 1948. It's time that the world told them what to do and make them do it. Enough BS.
Let me guess??? Youre all for the ovens again?
jmc,
Have you stopped to think that the leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the PLO want to keep them that way? Arafat embezzled approximately $3 billion dollars meant for the Palestinian people. What's more sympathetic, well fed, clean, and happy Palestinians or Palestinians kept in squalor to pressure the Israelis? Why don't the Jordanians or Egyptians take in their "Palestinian" brothers and sisters and save them from this poverty? They won't because they know the "Palestinians" are a burr under the blanket of the Israelis.
Wow this thread grew fast.
zoroaster, Golan Heights is a major source of water for Israel, as well as agriculture. I believe its a little less than 20% of their water in fact. Strategically it is a huge deal. And that is also why their neighbors want that region back.
It would behoove Israel to increase their desalination abilities. That way they can devalue that land's strategic importance for them, but it will remain highly valuable to their neighbors.
Israel accept the boarders the United Nation assigned to them in 1948.
The next day when Israel called it'self Israel, they were attacked by: Egypt. Syria. Iraq and Lebanon....Arab/ Muslim Nations.
The Arabs started the strife that is continuing to this day. The Arabs/Muslims gave Israel the excuse they have been using to this day.
That is Why and How America became involved with Israel. The Muslims called this crap on them selves. They ARE the real TROUBLE MAKERS!
The basis for the 6 day war. Has anyone here ever gone to school?
Dick, you it the nail on the head there. Although we disagree generally here, we agree that both sides are to blame for the condition of the palis. What you should also realize is that Israel really should seek to improve the living conditions in these areas because there would be a whole lot less support for hamas that way.
I think this is all a big misunderstanding. Obama was in campaign Obama mode and thought he was at a fundraiser for C.A.I.R.. It's been a while since he's been in Presidential mode so you'll have to understand and forgive him.
It is in the interest of the other "arab" nations to have this dicord continue. There was never a country called "Palestine". Further, the so called "arab" brothers of the "refugees" refused their brothers entrance to their countries.. (see Syria, Lebanon and Egypt) and did thier part to create the "refugee" mentality.
It's very hard to solve something when the combatants ask each other if it was your opponnent's brother who killed your brother...
No matter how many "concessions" Isreal makes it will never be enough for them.. As for pre 1967 borders.... what he really wants is for Isreal to give up Jerusalem... The Golan Hieghts and the Sinai were already "Given back".
Why is the US Kow-towing to the Arabs now... the same people who support terrorists, supression of democracy, oppression of their citizens and treat women like chattel....
Sincerely,
Disgusted with the White House
jmc,
"If the international community decided tomorrow to take Maryland and give it to an ethnic Chinese minority as an independent sovereign nation, and then over the next twenty years expanded into Delaware through military aggression, would you say that is their rightful land?"
Well, if that deal to give the Chinese Maryland was part of giving Delaware and New Jersey to an ethnic Serbian majority. And, those Serbians decided that they wanted Maryland also. And the aggression you speak of was the Serbians trying to take back Maryland. And, the result was that the Chinese beat back the Serbians and wanted to keep Delaware as a buffer between them and the Aggressive Serbians in New Jersey....yes.
The thing about going to the '67 borders is that it takes the border issue back a generation. My guess is that there really aren't that many Palestinians around who really remember 1967. One can argue that those pre-'67 borders were inappropriate, but they were world recognized. Israel started the six day war claiming a defensive need. Maybe that was completely accurate at the time, but does that justify continuing to occupy that territory 40+ years later? Has that occupation provided Israel with better security? Do the "threats" of 40 years ago still apply today? Did it justify colonizing the area they occupied for the purpose of their security? Was it really about pre-emptive security or was it about taking someone else's territory? I don't think there really is that many people who really remember it clearly today. To the Palestinians of today, this will seem like an enormous step forward. It will to many at least seem like a positive move.
This may not stop the Palestinian radicals from wanting to destroy Israel and it potentially makes it easier for them to arm themselves. At the same time, it will justify, to a much larger degree, any retribution that Israel delivers against the new Palestinian State, should they continue their attacks on Israelis. That would likely change world view considerably. It's hardly a cure all, but it would set the table for a better start. Right now you basically have "prisoner" uprisings. That always leads to second guessing what is an appropriate response to suppress that uprising. If you give the Palestinians a nation State, they need to take the responsibility of a nation. It changes the expectations and it changes the rules.
There is no easy solution to solving a problem that is based on, to a large part, a very long history, but most people really live in today's world. People may carry grudges and biases for generations, but are more motivated by current events than ancient history. Most of the Palestinian fighters against Israel today are fighting against things that happened very recently as opposed to hundreds or thousands of years ago. They may use it as justification, but it isn't in itself what causes them to act. In this way, it gives you an opportunity for a "clean start". It won't convince everyone, but it will have a positive effect on many.
The fact of the matter is that the Muslims want to kill the Jews. Hamas is a terrorist organization. Obama opened his mouth to change feet. Listen to a video interview of Hamas cleric and MP Yumis Al-Astal where he states that Israel requires 'the Great Massacre' to rid humanity of their evil.

Yeah right mygirl - what a "credible source"
Not.
Try again honey.
I am thoroughly appalled at my Commander in Chief I mean WTF is he thinking obviously he is not fit to be President of our Country but I already new this & so do millions of other Americans.
Jerusalem will always be the Capitol of Israel and the Jews would never ever give that up.....Unbelievable and what Arrogance to say something like this 8( I was surprised that the Prime Minister didn't outright say are you out of your mind and that's putting it nicely.
BJ: Oh, sorry. Media Matters and Chris Matthews should be the preferred source of information, right? Then again, if it doesn't fit into your worldview, regardless of the credibility or factuality, then it doesn't count. Why aren't we surprised...sweetie.
While your at it Obama can the Native Americans go back to pre 1776 borders? I am sure that is the proper thing to do since we are going back in time to "fix" things.
It's pretty simple, really. Our president's heart is with the muslims. We suspected it when we elected it and he is now removing all doubt.
President Obama just lost several million American Jewish voters with this policy speech.
Really? Are you saying that American Jewish voters would place the desire of some Israelis to annex the remaining fraction of Palestine above all other concerns? Above the American economy, above the environment, above women's rights, above health care and education? I think that American Jewish voters are more patritotic than that.
He also lost votes of many others besides American Jews.
This is a grave error by President Obama. It is not Israel that needs to change. Hamas needs to renounce violence and guarantee Israel's right to exist within the current borders.
Giving away land has never worked for the Israelis. Hopefully, Prime Minister Netanyahu will stick to his guns on this one.
Yes, that's exactly what will happen. American Jewish voters care very deeply about Israel. Obama doesn't understand and/or doesn't care.
Obama seems to think that this middle east conflict is more important then the American Economy, the Environment, Womans Rights, Health Care and Education.
You're right. The economy alone is enough not to vote for him.
SERIII,
What does your statement have to do with going back to the pre-1967 borders? Do you even know?
Yes, that's exactly what will happen. American Jewish voters care very deeply about Israel. Obama doesn't understand and/or doesn't care.
True, he only cares about the Latino vote.
Fact is, that holy land is tainted by blood history. One religious group moves in, attacks and forces out or attacks and kills, the entire occupying religious group, then it happens again, and again, and again.
If there is a God, whomever it may be, may very well not be welcoming those murderers or warmongers into heaven.
How should I care for either side's arguement, reasoning, justification, or anything else alike. I will care for you because you are alive, you are the embodiment of life and I would sacrifice my own life to save yours, along with every other living thing, of my own will, but do not ask or demand me to pick a side when both sides are killing eachother for the same reason, both sides have the same arguement, and both sides are doing the same thing. Current occupies, and took said occupation from past, following suit of past before past, now future comes to take occupation from current, with full intent to continue said occupation, following suit of current.
No.
The Palestinians will NEVER in 1 million years EVER concede that they need to change.
I doubt most American Jews are going to vote solely on this issue alone.
Frankly - The USofA needs to stop pandering to Israel without regard of its effects on Israel's neighbors. At the same time, we do need to ensure that Israel will not be wiped off the map by its neighbors. It's a fine line to walk on and trying to please everyone will ensure no one is happy.
Religion is the curse of mankind. All this is because of religion. Feh.
Sadly, this won't be the case. The vast majority of American Jews are staunchly liberal Democrat and will vote for Barack Hussein Obama in 2012 no matter how anti-Israel he is.
This particular Jew is a Republican and did not vote for President Obama last time, and will most certainly not this time.
Also to SERIII's comment that "he/she thinks that American Jewish voters are more patriotic than that..." so does not voting for the President currently in office to be re-elected make someone less patriotic?
Not to mention forgiving Egypt of a lot of debt, and then giving them more money (than we were already giving them) while Americans here are unemployed and gasoline prices are out of control... and we're supposed to reduce spending?
Yes, poor Obama will not be re-elected because of this, and his failure on the economy, and his failure on the environment, and because he is the warmongering peace prize winner... the biggest flip flopper in US history.
"True, he only cares about the Latino vote." Correct! That's why he ignores OUR borders and instead meddles in border matters of other countries. This inept, arrogant buffoon's days of ruining this country are numbered. In 2012, it's Anyone But Obama. He's SO One and Done! He thought he took a 'shellacking' in 2010; just wait until 2012! It will make his narcisstic head spin.
You're crazy. Obama will absolutely be re-elected, whether you want to admit that or not. Cleaning up after Bush's economic disaster was a monumental task, and I see an economy that's recovering extremely well. I'll agree that he should do more to help the environment, but that'll come in the 2nd term. Helping the environment doesn't win elections unfortunately, so he'll do it when he doesn't have to worry about that ever again.
And calling him a war monger is just plain foolish. Do you even remember who came before him?? Maybe you're just confused because literally everything you said would be true if you stuck "Bush" in place of "Obama".
Just because you CAN use a keyboard doesn't mean you SHOULD.
And yet ANOTHER liberal socialist telling someone they should or should not have their opinion heard. Patty.. we are not shutting up ANYMORE!
Neither are we antisocialist (do you even know what the word socialist means?)
LOL
Yeah, I love the way these simpletons toss around words like "liberal" (as if being open-minded and free-thinking is a BAD thing!) and socialist...because their conservative buddies toss it around and then it starts to stick in their head. "Yeah...them liberals are a bunch of socialists!"
Can any of you even try to look below the very surface layer of what Obama's doing to understand that what he's doing is brilliant. Israel's not going to accept the border change (he knows that), but he looks like a peacemaker to the Arab world...at the same time that we ship massive amounts of planes and arms to Israel. C'mon, people...can we try to think a little deeper?? Or is it just easier to throw around boring "insults" toward us liberals?
Conservative (adj.) - "holding to traditional values and attitudes; cautious about change or innovation"
Liberal (adj) - "open to new behavior or opinions; favorable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms"
Wow....tell me again how calling someone "liberal" is a cut down? You can call me that all day long!! Would take that over being "conservative" any day! :)
President Obama called for a pull back out of Israeli occupied territory, which Israel will of course be against, but he also came out against the recognition of a Palestinian Virtual State by the United nations which is something Israel was very much hoping he come out against. All off you saying President Obama has turned his back on Israel don't really know all of the things that are important to Israel or what was even in the speech apparentlly. He gave them a balance that was pretty pragmatic.
Thank you! And thank god Obama is a liberal thinker, because just doing the same old thing with regards to this region has never worked & will not work now. Don't fear an intelligent President who's actually willing to try new strategies to make the world safer. He promised something different & that's what we have (thank god).
Beware the peacemaker!
The pro Obama posters you all have absolutely no idea what your talking about The ARABS HATE THE JEWS & will only be satisfied when they have driven them into the SEA.
HISTORY
read it learn it then post..
The comment that the majority of Jews are Liberal Democrats is completely false lol I about @!$%# myself LOL on that one.
He took a shellacking in 2010 why do you think that happened hmm did you forget that ass kicking your messiah took just wait till 2012 8) Moderates and Independents have had absolutely enough of this guy.
Economy Stinks
Gas Prices Stink
Food Prices Stink
Taxes are to damn High
SPEND SPEND SPEND is what I see and guess what the Spending is going to other countries.
This is the worst approach ever to solve the problem Israel-Palestine. Even Carter one of the worst presidents in foreign policy did better. 2012 is cumming , the media never question Obama position about middle east and always deny his Muslims faith , mistake or not he said so, we elect a president without knowing him, big mistake it won't append again.
What the enemies of Israel are whining over is a couple slivers of land that were annexed to help Israel better defend itself from the nations who hate it and have attacked it.
The Arabs have plenty of territory. Israel is smaller than New Jersy yet one of the most prosperous states in the ME, and the most prosperous without oil.
Obama made a huge mistake with his position on this matter and watch his ratings fall because of it.
To those of you who are with Obama on this, who would you rather trust in the ME as an ally? Leave the hype and hate out of your responses and present logic.
I am part native America, but only consider myself American. Would you be willing to consider the same thing in America, returning all of the lands taken by Europeans from those who were here first? Of course you wouldn't. You will claim that is different. Do tell how it is different.
Well, Bob, one way is that another nation is not spending a fortune helping us hang onto that land while bearing the entire region's hatred for doing so. We give Israel an awful lot in foreign aid, but how does it help the USA? What does it do for our national security? The reason it is different from America's land grab is that by taking a great deal of money from us, Israel has involved us in their situation.
If we helping Israel because it is the moral thing to do, how is it moral to watch Israel "settle" more and more land that belongs to the Palestinians? Don't get me wrong -- I do want Israel to exist. I'm just not convinced that sending settlers into Palestinian territories to illegally annex Palestinian land is a way towards peace. Are we just supposed to shut up and give Israel an endless amount of money while sitting by and watching them take more and more land from the Palestinians? Palestinians need somewhere to live, too.
As far as going back to pre-1967 boundaries -- I suspect that is just a starting point for negotiations. But Israel needs to start taking these negotiations seriously instead of doing what they are currently doing, which is anything but conducive towards peace. So do the Palestinians. Whether the Palestinians will step up to the table remains to be seen as well -- but they really could not have a viable country under what was being proposed before-- a crazy quilt of little slivers of land, chopped up and riddled with checkpoints made to protect Israeli settlements that should never have been there in the first place.
I guess what I'm saying is, there needs to be a new paradigm about the peace process. Because the old one sure was not working.
The only way Obama gets elected again is if the Liberal media is not confronted continuously. Their continuous omission of facts and lap dog attitude toward this horrific President would be laughable if it were not as destructive as it is.
Obama was never properly vetted as a candidate. As all the other lives that were turned inside out and upside down. Including their childrens... Obama had "Fluff Pieces" being run about his great struggle (HA, great struggle?). Bet your boots calling people a "Racist" or a "Hate Monger" for looking deep into his afairs and practices will not be enough this time... But last time it was. Had we been told about Obama's relationships with pro-Communist terror couple William (Bill) Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohm both of whom are unrepentant for their records of violent activities in the 60's and 70's and who escaped prison on a technicality. Had it been know about Obama having written many times about his adoration of Frank Marshall Davis work (an admitted Comunist and anti-American) who Obama even tries hiding his refferences to in his book. Had we know of Van Jones, another admitted Comunist who Obama actually allowed to occupy in the office of Czar in his administration and who has spoken repeatedly about the need to redistribute American wealth to African and other Nations based on his ridiculously extremist Leftist views.
Why were we not informed about Alice Palmer. I 1980's Moscow mouthpiece who was right there side by side with Obama in Chicago while doing his "Community Organizing"... We were never told about Obama's relationship with Alice... NO WAY! This women wore a hammer and sickle on her clothing. When she tried to reclaim her Senate position THAT OBAMA CAMPAIGNED FOR to begin with, Obama moved to have her removed from the ballot. She is now a Hillary Clinton supporter.
Had the media not shoved the Rev. Wright relationship of 20 years under the carpet, it would have been interesting to know just how much Obama was all about Wrights view of "GOD DAMN AMERICA" instead of God Bless America. Obama Say's it was no biggie... 20years???? No Biggie???? Really??? If a Marriage last 20 years in this Country it is something to write home about... but for someone to stay in a Church for 20 years and say they do not share the same views as the pastor is just one more lie to add to the rest.
What about "Transparent Government"???.... Lie!
What about Closing Gitmo?........ Lie!
What about out of Afghanistan???...... Lie!
What about Bailout are good???....... Lie!
What about "Green Jobs" falling out of the sky???...... Lie!
What about EVERYTHING OBAMA???......... A LIE!!!
What about turning the economy around??? Obama never even addressed the economy until he shoved an unpopular Health Care debacle down our throats in the middle of the night. And that was after he had already blown through 3/4 of a Trillion dollars to fix the economy with his famous... "stimulate the liberal war chest" plan!
What about all the bailouts? I hear all you lefty leftist talking on and on about how "Big Business is wrong and the Republican are owned by them" What a joke.... Your "BOY" bailed out the 3rd largest corporation in the USA. WITH OUR FRIGGEN CASH!!!!!
No... the only way Obama makes another 4 years is if the joke played upon us is propagated. I have already seen the future in just 2 GOP possibles. The media could not WAIT to start tearing them apart at the seams... Yet Obama stands unhindered in his destruction of our economy and his dereliction of our allies.
Obama is and always will be know as the "Great Joke" played on the US by the media.... And many of you let them get away with it because they told you if you did not like him, or you disagreed with him.... It was because you were a racist.... THAT, my friends... Is the damned truth of Obama and Co.!
Pray for Peace!
That's true. Since Obama is doing such a FANTASTIC job with the economy, he's practically a shoe in for re-election. Unemployment is practically non existent now, thanks to his policies. The debt is shrinking unbelievably. Everyone is hiring new workers. Foreclosures have stopped and property values are rising across the country. Soooo many reasons to be thrilled about the direction we are headed going into the 2012 election. :o)
Kayner pretty much summed it up! Israel will be attacked until they are Muslim, and that aint a gonna happen.....
Sadly, I think you are right. Obamas problem is that he does not understand the root of this problem. The root of the problem goes back 5,000 years. It is litterally a blood fued that is almost as old as religion it'self.
Unfortunately, Obama doesn't understand many problems. That is why we are still in a recession. I know the numbers don't show it, but tell that to all who are unemployed and will remain unemployed until the government makes a decision to encourage corporations to stay and hire. Everything this administration has done has had the opposite effect.
His ME policy will only hurry up a ME meltdown and will do nothing to benefit anyone, except insiders like him.
I think too many do not give obama enough credit. I think he is very smart and knows exactly what he is doing. It has been his plan all along to seek retribution for his father, to bring America to her knees and turn us into a nanny state.
Obama in fact is quite aware of what he's doing and the freedom loving Americans are waking up to his crap. He wipes his azz with the constitution and his liberal sheep cheer him on for it.
Obama foregin policy has even the muslims laughing. Lybians refer to him as a joke.
Pray for peace!
As a Jew, I have been waiting a long time for a President with the guts to stand up to the mindless, knee-jerk pro-Israel at-any-cost "Jewish Postion." The whole world depends on a common-sense resolution over there, not one that is dictated by Israel. I'm all for this.
I, also Jewish, agree! Mazel Tov Obama.
Sorry Lawrence, common sense is not in the Palestinians vocabulary. Mindless rocket and bomb attacks against Israel will continue no matter how much Israel meets "common-sense" demands.
I couldn't disagree more. Israel should of course be dictating policy when half of the other side's government has a charter that calls for the annhilation of Israel.
Lawrence,
Self-hating Jews always confuse me. They can say these things from the comfort of their US homes. They can feel like they are easing their conscience, for what reasons I don't know, by siding with the so-called "Palestinians". Never learning the lesson that the Arabs don't want peace. The Arabs want the Jews dead.
Yep, Dick, sounds like Lawrence needs to trade his pitcher of political koolaid for a good history book.
Rummy
While I agree that many Palestinians are unworkable it is imperative to Israel that they develop better relations. Otherwise their national security will be in jeopardy forever.
Over time the old guard retires and a new generation will step in. If the newer generation feels that Israel is a bully (even if its justified) there will be no change in sentiment. However, if support can be won within the evolving demographic, peace is attainable. However, it requires tireless determination and concessions that may be unpopular.
Hard-line stances like yours will be the undoing of Israel.
Barack Hussein Obama is fiddling while the Holy Land burns. He cares nothing about the safety and welfare of the Jews in Israel. His loyalties lie with the Evil Religion.
It really doesn't matter what we think. The Palestinians haven't given a crap about what we think for decades. The middle east is not filled with reasonable people, it is populated with warring factions.
Nothing that we do or say makes any difference, and I wish our dear President would shut his pie hole and go to work on making it easier for US companies to do business, so that more private sector jobs can be found. A strong economy is our best defense, and right now Obama's policies have us circling the drain.
To Lawrence and Valerie. American Jewish me would have to disagree with you. If common sense was so common... more people would have it. Hamas has made its "Israel Position" pretty clear. Fatah says somethings in Arabic but completely different things in English.
For the British Mandate for Palestine (which the brits screwed up royally) 2 nations were to be made... one Arab, one Jewish. Over 70 percent of the partition was used to create the nation "Trans-Jordan." The remaining 20 something percent went to create Israel. And yet, there are no calls to carve a palestinian state from the Jordanian portion of the mandate. (who until recently the palestinians had Jordanian citizenship)
And the 67 "borders" werent borders. It was an armistice line.
Israel stole land that was never given or intended for them. Therefore Palestinians will forever be the victims of Israel's illigitimate land-grab. There is nothing Israel can ever do or say, to regain legitimacy in the eyes of the rest of the world until they return what they stole ..... and until they discontinue their stealing of Palestinian property by spreading illegal settlements. It's sad that Israel values the possession & acquisition of land, over peaceful relations with Palestinians.
Diane, the US never stole land from anyone? Should we give it back? Why are we telling another country what to do?
Tony, when we supply the other country with billions in aid and weapons reserved for only our closest allies we gain some ability to suggest to them what they do. They can also ignore us, but that may mean being weened off the US tit.
The flip side is that Israels enemies, which oddly amount to our enemies, are watching this and know they can now push Israels buttons through the US. Why would we be in full support of another country, only to openly take the side of their enemy? Are we telling England to get out of Northern Ireland?
While this move may seem an ok idea for today, in the long run the Arab neighbors of Israel will grow stronger, and eventually become a problem we will have to fix. We need to stop trying to appease people that are angry over who has the most power.
DianeML,
What did Israel steal? You mean the land that the Arab states retreated from when the Israelis defended themselves from the attacking Arab states? That land?
Tony, I see your concern. However, I also believe that blind and unerring support for Israel also gives the wrong message.
The way I see it, Israel and the Arabs will never get along. That puts us in a spot where we will have to take a stand for one side or the other. On the one hand we need oil, so we look to keep the Arabs appeased. On the other hand Israel is our launching ground for information and operations in the middle east. If we only supported the Arabs, Israel would quickly seize to exist. If we only support Israel, the arabs call us infedels. Playing middle ground gets us no where. Yes Israel can show us gratitude for the support we provide in protection from its enemies, but to go as far as to tell them to give up land is too much. Concessions for peace, yes. But not land.
Hye Diane - how do you "steal" something when you are the defender and not the agressor????? go read your history books, if you can read..
It's a no-win situation Tony.
Nobody can make anyone happy over there. Nobody.
OOOOOH - Mabel used Obama's middle name in order to make him seem more "Arab", thereby confirming her own racism. And what religion do you practice, Racist Mabel? Is your religion the "right" one & every other religion somehow got it wrong? You sure of that? - 'cause you're outnumbered, so maybe THEY'RE right. Ever thought of that? Ever considered that your religion is a big book of myths and fairy tales designed to appease weak minded folks like yourself? Does it make you feel better to think that your Racist soul is going to some absurd heaven in the clouds, while the "Evil Religion" folks go to your mythical, absurd Hell? And you get to go to heaven, why? Because you're such a good and loving person? Of course....
Patty: You support Obama, think he's brilliant and have much hero worship. That is apparent. If you would look beyond your beloved's words and pay attention to his actions you would see something entirely different.
I don't "have much hero worship" - although I love much the way you assemble your words into odd sentences. ALL I look at is actions & Obama's are all sincerely focused on improving Bush's near economic disaster and making the world a more peaceful place. I would never "worship" any politician because there are too many other great people on this planet who'd get it first, BUT....Obama is an intelligent man who's doing some brilliant things for this country.
Patty,
So obama is doing some really brilliant things for this country? Like what? Cap and trade? Moratorium on off-shore drilling? Expanding our war-front to Afghanistan? Cash for clunkers? Huge expansion of national debt? Wanting to regulate the internet? The list of things can certainly go on.
Ah save it Patty - it'll simply go over the head of "mygirl1" anyway.
So she hates Obama. Boo hoo. Breaks my heart.
I'll bet she's one who thinks Ron Paul will save the planet.
Whooeee - people have the nerve to think we consider the "messiah" and they blather on and on about Ron Paul! LOL! Whatever.
Nothing Obama can do will make these haters happy. I just sit back and laugh at them tie themselves into knots over him.
Ok Jado - you had to ask.

2010 Shellacking just wait for 2012 he will get another one from Moderates and Independents like myself.
Expanding the Government is not the answer
Shrinking it is.
Government is not the Solution to the Problem.
Government IS the PROBLEM
Ronald Reagan
Obamas View Government is the Solution for all the problems
2012 Moderates and Independents will not vote for him like they did when he was elected.
Patty, you nailed it! I'm a good and loving person :-)
The point I'm trying to make, which must have gone over your head, is that although we all know or should know that President Obama is not (repeat: NOT) a Muslim, his middle name is Hussein, his father was Muslim and he spent his childhood in a Muslim country. Islam is therefore very much a part of his heritage and identity as a man and his Muslim heritage influences his foreign policy agenda. It causes him to sympathize with Islamic Fundamentalists who want to kill infidels. This is a fact that President Obama has never been up front and honest with the public about.
In the face of our new Egyptian friends brokering a deal between Hamas and Fatah and getting ready to declare statehood, this is the best we could do, tell Israel to accept the 1967 borders? If territorial retreat would buy peace, then Gaza would sure have turned out different. Instead every time Israel gives up land, it just brings the rocket launchers closer to Tel Aviv.
All of the uprisings in the ME will do nothing but further alienate the ME with the rest of the world. Israel just wants to exist. It is one of the smallest states in the world. If the ME joins forces against it, Israel will have no choice but to send them back to the 7th century. While it will surely be destroyed in the process, so will the ME.
Why can't the ME just let them be? The Arab states cover 8.6 million sq miles. Israel covers less than 6000 sq miles. Why don't the Arab states make room for their brothers? Because they don't care about them? Or just because they hate Israel? The Aram world is a huge place yet they can stand a small nation that is covers less than 1/10% of the entire area?
Those who are anti Isreal love to throw around the NAZI banner at those who lean right, but it was the NAZI's who hated jews. Hated all they represent. Where does that put you?
They have more Nobel peace prizes as a tiny nation than nearly any country in the world. How many peace prizes has the entire Arab world? Very few, because they are not about peace. They are about assimilation. Yet there seems to be a small minority in America that backs them. Ignorance is the only reason I can think of.
The minority hates Christians, hates jews, yet wants to embrace the religion that wants to enslave them. What is up with that? OH ya. they voted for Obama the trouble maker.
While we are at it, let's return America to the Native Americans. there is more validity in that, since it was taken from them, then in asking Israel to return land won after defeating an aggressor!
On this issue - the fact that Israel took that land after fighting a war STARTED by the Muslims - why the hell should they return it?
Don't start the war, you won't lose the land when you get your asses kicked.
Pretty simple to me.
We gave back Japan. They are now one of our strongest allies. We gave back Germany and the same can be said there. On the other hand USSR held onto many eastern European countries, and see how well that worked out.
"to the victor goes the spoils" but sometimes giving it back makes you the hero.
Eng - the problem is that they want all of Israel, and many of their neighbors are only holding back at invading Israel because of the US.
You give from a position of strength, not weakness. Israel would have to disappear to satisfy their enemies.
The Indians sold most of their lands.
lol dan.
i could get you to sell me your car for 5 bucks if i shoved a .44 under your chin and said 'sell me your car for 5 bucks, or i splatter your brains all over your driveway'.
almost positive.
Paul, I don't see it as a clear distinction. Israel owns this land and could easily take over a lot more if they so choose. They are, militarily speaking, the biggest force in the middle east. Their neighbors don't attack them because Israel would dropkick their asses back to Mesopotamia.
They are in a position of power. If we had occupied Japan the same way we would be dealing with the same insurrection. Same with Germany's occupation of France during the war. Occupation breeds dissent and revolt. It is unstable in the long run (unless the population is not a cohesive group).
>Really? Are you saying that American Jewish voters would place the desire of some Israelis to annex the remaining fraction of Palestine above all other concerns?<
Considering that my grandmother and her 5-year old daughter were murdered (in the heart of "civilized" Europe) merely for being Jews only 65 years ago, I'd say that I have every right to be concerned about Israel -- even if I don't live there. Now go crawl back under the rock you slithered out under.

You are talking about a sliver of land surrounded by those who will never accept their existence. Germany, unconditional surrender. Japan, unconditional surrender. Arab world, kill the infidels.
Waht part of that don't you understand?
Totally ill advised! Mr. President, you have failed us again. Sounds naive, shows complete lack of knowledge of history and total ignorance of that parties involved. There is not denying the facts...While Israel has turned desert sand into gold, the Arab countries surrounding have destroyed societies, peoples rights let along encouraged terrorism. I honestly thought that after such a bold and courageous decision to go after UBL (not to be confused with OBO), Mr. President did have the guts to take a stance...He does not, and in doing so, has bolted to a people that will have no problem in back stabbing us, them and all who stand in their way. Shame on you Mr. President...Fortunately, we have less then 32 months with you at the helm...So long...
If you want to turn back to previous borders, then go back to the original ones. the ones God gave to Abraham
Then I suppose we could give it to the Assyrians, Romans, Babylonians, Egyptians, Turks, British, French and everyone else who conquered that land.
This was an idea that didn't consider the repurcutions to follow.
The best way for Palestine to exist in our modern society is to be monitored by the only two people that seem to get along with each other and that is Jordan and Israel.
In my opinion Palestien would have a better future if they existed where Judea used to be or similar to it. From South West Juruselum extending south along the Jordan River in order to have a sea port for economic potential.
>>Then I suppose we could give it to the Assyrians, Romans, Babylonians, Egyptians, Turks, British, French and everyone else who conquered that land.<<
Nate: Stop being a fool. The very fact that the Jews came back (after 17 different nations and empires had control of the land) and, despite incredible odds, have managed to hang in despite all the hatred and overpowering numbers and also made the desert bloom is PROOF POSITIVE that they are SUPPOSED to be there.
Don't like that? Then take it up with the Big Boss.
"The best way for Palestine to exist in our modern society is to be monitored by the only two people that seem to get along with each other and that is Jordan and Israel."
That won't work because the ruling people in Jordan are about to get screwed by those who hate the jews too. The ME is in total meltdown. Anyone in the western world that is supporting that meltdown will regret it in the not to distant future. The will probably blame the republicans for their own ignorance. Then wonder why they are enslaved and who will save them.
I am too old to help them but will offer my guns so they can fight for their freedom. Of course they won't take me up on the offer because they think others will protect them. Hate guns. Hate self defense. Hate jews, Christians and anyone with faith. But will stand by the Arabs who want to enslave them. Good luck with that.
OMG - I can't believe what I am hearing - this guy is looking more and more like the real anti-Christ than ever before. Long live Israel and God's chosen people - God help our country and what is about to happen to it. Jesus come soon PLEASE.....
give me a break. The chosen people aren't waiting for Jesus, FYI. I am SO TIRED of fundamentalists Christian Americans thinking they have the right to decide what happens in Israel! To everyone reading this.... American Jews want PEACE for their Israel brothers/sisters/cousins.... the strongest Zionist lobby in the USA these days isn't even Jewish.
AMEN!!!!
Gee valerie, yet another "progressive" declaring which American have rights and which don't.
spider - pot meet kettle.
If anybody understood what the anti-Christ would be - Obama ain't it folks.
Read up on it - really.
Obama may or may not be the Anti-Christ. Only time will tell! But Obama is currently in first place and heading for the checkered flag! He is a lair and a demon! Plus a Muslim lover. When he enters victory lane, you'll know he is in cahoots with Satan!
Spider, American Fundamentalist Christians have just as many rights as American Jews....IN AMERICA. Jews worldwide actually DO have some rights in Israel .... by Israel law. Not getting into how deserved those rights are or not. My point is, Fundamentalist Christians are free to exercise whatever rights they want, but PLEASE STOP taking positions in the NAME OF JUDAISM. And PS, I am not a self-hating Jew, I LOVE my religion and am active in my synagogue, but I don't think God loves me any more than any one else. Not all Jews believe the "chosen" line. We know too many other good people of other faiths. .... proud to be a Jew, but am not a fundamentalist, and frankly sick of fundamentalists of all strips.
LMAO Bill! You wouldn't know a demon if it spit you in the face!
Admit it! You hate Obama! Ok! We get it!
It's. Just. Your. Opinion.
That is all it is. Deal with it.
Wowsa. I didn't like George Bush II but I didn't HATE the guy. You really need help. Hate is a horrible thing. Jesus Christ is shaking his head in sorrow at you.
Apathy is better for you.
If Jesus coming means that you fu**ing, ridiculous "Christians" (a term to be used loosely when you compare what it's supposed to mean and the way you people really behave) will drop off the face of the @!$%#ing earth then I can't wait for it either. Morons...
To many of my Christian brethren.....
There is no such term or phrase as 'anti-Christ' in the Book of Revelation. Instead of repeating the garbage that uneducated preachers spew, read your Bible.

"give me a break. The chosen people aren't waiting for Jesus, FYI. I am SO TIRED of fundamentalists Christian Americans thinking they have the right to decide what happens in Israel!"
At one time I was like you. Fortunately I have changed. Be tired. Your choice. Think that you have the answers but don't research them. You are in the minority and always will be. I know that most who claim to be Christian have no idea what that really means, and those who hate Christians don't know squat.
Read the bible of the Christians and Jews. The answers are there but won't be apparent to those who go into it with denial.
Obama is always on the side of the Arabs. Wish we could transplant him to Syria he would feel more at home
Oh now now now... If he had spoken up for Israel, you'd be dissing him about being Pro-Israel blah blah blah.
>I LOVE my religion and am active in my synagogue, but I don't think God loves me any more than any one else.<
Well the next time you step into your synagogue, you can do worse than to open the Bible in front of you and see the many dozens of times the Land of Israel is PROMISED as an ETERNAL INHERITANCE to the JEWISH people.
(And Islam and Christianity, by their own admission, agree that God gave the land to the Jews!)
I hate to be the one that informs you, but you won't find a Bible in a synagogue!
Duh.....
>I hate to be the one that informs you, but you won't find a Bible in a synagogue!<
What in the world are you talking about? True, you won't find the NT, but of course you'll find the Torah (the 'OT')
Oh really? Tell that to Osama Bin Laden.
He is a terrorist and needed to die and Obama does favor the Arabs his actions show this.

"I hate to be the one that informs you, but you won't find a Bible in a synagogue!"
Are you serious? The Jews wrote the Old Testament. Too bad they ignored the prophesy of Christ. But that is ok. It is much worse to deny God.
no israel should not go back and obama has reneged on yet another promise, you can trust obama as much as '' hudna'' no deal counts that islam makes with an infidel.
I really don't see how this ever gets resolved. Israel is surrounded, their government pushes back at every provocation because they can't afford not to. Yet with every push back they further distance themselves from the peoples of every country surrounding them. Israel is afraid of what the Arab Spring will bring, and does not want to do anything that might weaken them in the face of that uncertainty.
Reliant, very well spoken. There needs to be a shift in attitude for Israel to survive. They must appear harsh yet just, and still compassionate and foregiving. It is an extremely hard line to walk, and they haven't done a great job at it. The whole situation sucks.
Maybe we should just have them all come here. 2 million new people isn't that many, they have a lot of smart people and great tech companies, and the middle east might calm down a bit. Plus great bagels.
I have been to Israel and know several Israelis, they have as profound a love of country as anybody. Leaving would not be an option for them.
The only think I can imagine bringing about a lasting peace, would be a grass roots development involving significant segments of the the Israeli and Palestinian People comming together. After the birth of a couple of generations of mistrust, I just can't see how that gets a foot hold.
Reliant, it was intended as a joke. I know a few Israelis, and they wouldn't leave come hell or high water. I just think it would be simpler even if unrealistic.
I love the idea of a grass roots effort, and really its the only solution that will even bring sustainable peace to that region. The problem is hard-liners on both sides who won't give an inch. Until there are mutual concessions there won't be any moves forward.
I agree, the U.S. would be the safest place for the Jews. This disagreement has been going on since Abraham, Sarah and Hagar (Genesis) and nothing is going to change. God, Himself, would have to come down here to settle it, which might happen sooner than later.
Peaches: A great idea...can you imagine the religious right welcoming those orthodox jews? Although they are not people of color, those curls and black clothing would really be food for their venom. The only people who deserve to be sin this country (according to them) are white, fundamentalists who believe exactly as they do. How we ever got through the civil rights movement in this country is beyond me. By the way, if you all missed the pbs special, Freedom Riders, I suggest you go online and download it. The majority of people who attacked the freedom riders were the "fine christians of the south". It made me feel so sad for our country having to have this as part of our histroy.
Islam countries could end this if they wanted to, but assimilation is all they understand - like the Borg. They possess most of the ME, yet want to possess the world. Israel is a blip on the map but has the power to destroy the ME if pushed too far. Israel just wants to exist, where it started. Islam wants to dominate everyone. Those who don't understand that fact are complicite with them and won't understand their position until they are enslaved. And Islam is the largest slave organization in the world.
I find it difficult to accept the president's speech as progressing any harmony between Israel and the Palestinians.
Muslim suicide bombers will continue their barbaric murders against innocents no matter what Israel agrees to.
Sorry Mr. President, but your remarks are just not credible.
Luckily for the American people and our Jewish friends in Israel this President no longer speaks for the majority in the USA. He's pretty much just ended any chance he had of being reelected.
Honey, that's just one opinion.
Really - some folks will never ever be happy with anything Obama ever does.
Had he spoken "Pro-Israel" you cons would be screaming for his head anyway.
Calm Down. Jesus...
He maybe 1 voice but I as well will not vote for him come 2012 as a Independent voter.
The Shellacking he got in 2010 should have been a stark reminder but I guess he didn't listen so we will have to do it again.
I think at this point any other candidate is better.
I still cant believe his comments about the pre 67 lines lol he just keeps screwing up over and over hehehhhee
Well Big Al, the last I checked, you don't speak for all moderates and independents.
So there.
I just signed the Impeach Obama petition outside the US Post Office.
Sign me up for his impeachment too! Didn't vote for him in '08, would not even consider giving another bite at the apple.
list his impeachable offenses please.
if you come up with one, ill sign it too.
Flashypaws
"list his impeachable offenses please.
if you come up with one, ill sign it too."
Just one? Ha! I can think of at least 14Trillion!
fine.
list one.
Obamanation Care! Pelosi must agree with that.. don't cha think?
>list one.<
I'll bite. What about giving aid and comfort to our mortal enemies (i.e. Moslems)?
Anti-Socialist - you must think the current health system is just peachy huh?
Just what laws did Obama break?
You guys couldn't think of one - what you're spewing is opinion, not fact.
Do you mean the borders before they were attacked in 1967? Israel has been giving "land for peace" for years...they've given the land, but still have no peace. So the least qualified man in any room he occupies has a 'new plan'. I think the old-fashioned way of letting them fight it out might've cost fewer lives in the long run...solving this dispute by 'peaceful' means has been a failure and a bloodbath for more years than an all-out war.
While Obama is at it, he should announce the return of America to the Native Americans from whom it was taken. That would have more validity then to ask Israel to return to land won in defeating aggressors and which is vital to national defense. The only thing returning land will do is provide a shorter distance for attacks and over which the "neighbors" need to push Israel into the Mediterranean.
Jerusalem belongs to the Jews! It should NEVER be divided. The Palestinan people didn't even want any part of Israel until AFTER the Jews took back what was theirs and the land began to prosper. Now the Palestinian people want it. Israel should NEVER part with what is rightfully theirs.
Bravo
Jerusalem will always be the heartland of Israel and the day they lose it is the day hell freezes over.
President Obama's disconnect from the facts on the ground in the Middle East is obvious. News reports show that the Hamas terrorist group has "not given Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas permission to negotiate with Israel," and now he all but abandons Israel in favor of giving in to the demands of terrorists.
Even members of President Obama's own party have recognized that we cannot support the Palestinian Authority now that the terrorist organization, Hamas, has joined the "Unity Government." Twenty-seven Democratic Senators have sent a letter urging President Obama to defund the new terrorist-run government.
Hamas continues to refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist, emphatically stating that it will stick with its "plan of resistance and not negotiations." How can President Obama demand that Israel negotiate with an organization that continues to utilize terrorism against it? It's absurd.
He ignores it because it does not fit his agenda of pandering to every dictator in the world in order to get his face on television.
For someone who is supposedly educated, Obama is completely oblivious to what his pie-in-the-sky nonsense is doing to this country. Can not wait to vote him out.
henry-X.... So glad to see that you get your information on world matters from YouTube. You sir, could be classified as a real idiot with those kinds of posts.
Obama seems to pander to terrorists, human smugglers, mass murderers and drug cartels.
since 1947, this has been an issue. this is the first time that an USA sitting President has made a proposal that is worth considering now that the Muslim nations have amassed such wealth and stronger economic position in the world. to continue down the same ignorant road is stupid. thank you President Obama for making statements that the far right conservatives will rant against and many in the Jewish population will hate. your words give all people an opportunity to stand up and realize that freedom and opportunity are available for all, not just the selected chosen few... Thank You...
More like the 1st President to openly screw up really bad like heh Not even Carter stepped into that steaming pile..
He lost Votes from just about every Jew simple as that in the US with his lame ass speech.
