I have a little story about illegals and if this doesn't frost your cookies, nothing will.

Last year I was involved in a very minor auto accident, very little damage to either vehicle (small scratch on my bumper) and, at the time no known injuries. Nobody received a ticket as the responding officer determined we were both at fault.

A few months pass by and next thing I know the other driver and passenger have an attorney and have filed suit against me. According to the suit they were both seriously injured and have had multiple surgeries, treatments, pain management, etc.

Anyway, as the wheels of justice turn, we must have depositions. While the passenger is being deposed it's discovered she does not have a social security number. Neither does the driver. Why? Because they have entered this country illegally from Guatemala. They have lived here comfortably for the past 5 years. They haven't paid taxes. They work under the table for cash. One of them has managed to have breast enhancement surgery, as well as a couple of other plastic surgeries.

Are you f'ing kidding me?? Their attorney knows they're illegals, in fact he advertises that you can get money even if you are not a US citizen.

A call to INS was met with 'we'll check into it'. Total Bullsh*t. Someone needs to start paying attention to what's going on in this country.

Why does everyone assume that the government places tracking bracelets on people from other countries. Most often those that are here illegally entered the U.S. by some legal means. For example, most enter the country with a student visa or a tourist visa and as long as they aren't international fugitives or suspected terrorist the U.S. has no real reason to refuse them.

Once they've gotten in all they really have to do is go about life as though they really do live here. Most often they go to large population centers and find others of shared ethnicity where they blend in and are usually protected by their peers. From there it's nothing to create an usable identity. And once you get it established (get a job, rent an apartment, buy a car etc.) you can pretty much pick up and go where ever you want in the U.S. and because the citizenry here is just about militant about their freedoms and privacy they can ride on the coat-tails of that.

Actually, Reagan signed an "Amnesty" bill in 1986, after the Democrats in Congress promised to make the hiring of illegal workers a crime with stiff penalties. Of course, the subsequent administrations and Congresses simply decided not to enforce that part of the law - which is still on the books. Now the Democrats are calling for another 'Amnesty Law" to allow millions more to stay, and I'm sure there will be another 'promise' to seal the borders and crack down on illegal immigrants - which will also just be ignored to avoid 'offending' the hispanic voters.

1. They stated in their depositions that they have never paid taxes while living in the US. So, it's not BS, nor was I pretending to know something I didn't.

2. I never said they didn't carry insurance, you did. In fact, they did carry insurance through one of the bigger well known companies. And I never said they didn't have a driver's license - you assumed they did not. In reality, one of them did have a valid license.

3. And you'll please excuse me if I incorrectly named the US Government Agency as the INS. I believe it's now Homeland Security / US Citizenship & Immigration.

Its simply not valid as a process to breed better humans - starting with how one would define that and ending with the inability of a breeding program to obtain the desired traits without unintended calamitous consequences.

We also know that the reduction of variation is not healthy for us as a species. It increases the probability that we can be destroyed by a specific pathogen or virus. I can go on, but it makes the point already. Eugenics as a forward program, as opposed to a preventative program, is simply a bad choice for the human race.

Do you think a background check is perfect? A background check would report what crimes that person had been charged with in the US, probably where they were born and when they came to this country. Probably a few other insignificant things like address and phone number and whatnot. It's not the end-all to finding out things about someone. There is no box someone forgot to check that was labeled "Committed War Crimes".

I saw nothing in the article to indicate her employer did or not do a background check. Can you help me understand how you were able to draw that conclusion ? Assuming they did do a check and she entered the country legally, the war crimes stuff wouldn't have been there anyway. Background check could have shown her as perfectly clean.

Had you bothered to read the article, you would have realized that the woman in question was serving in the predominantly Catholic Croatian Army. In general, the war crimes in the Balkans were perpetrated by the Croats and the Orthodox Christian Serbs, however the Bosnians were also responsible for a fair number of atrocities.

Please stop trying to pretend that Christians have any less inclination to violence than other religious groups. Unfortunately, a tendency to violence seems to be a part of the human condition, and there is no religious group that I can think of that has never been party to institutional violence.

All of you do realize that the United Nations, while often an ineffectual body, had troops in the Former Yugoslavia. The majority, as usual, were from the US, UK and France. In fact, once President Clinton brokered the peace deal, most, if not all UN troops simply took off the blue berets and started representing their own nation.

We seem to find it a convenient excuse to blame the US for not getting involved and allowing disasters to occur yet on the other hand we get upset when we do get involved. Interfering in other nations inevitably requires a long term committment and extensive resources. We still have personnel in the the Former Yugoslavia 16 yrs after the Dayton Peace Accord was signed.

I guess I'm not to be trusted either--I was a USAF flight nurse in Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. We didn't pick and choose our patients or discriminate in our medical treatment when they came to the aircraft. One of the toughest missions I flew involved 4 patients of 4 different nationalities (no Americans) and all civilians. (They probably didn't get the memo r/t evil G.I.'s because they didn't seem too worried or scared of us.) They trusted us with their health and well-being. Might want to keep your eyes open and your hand on your wallet since you can't always tell which doctor, nurse, lawyer or airline pilot "actively participated in a war" and therefore are not to be trusted either.

I can only second all the comments currently posted here, the very reason that you are able to freely post such stupidities is because of the people who have given their lives in wars to ensure the "right" of free speech, none of these people chose to die, they unselfishly did it and are still doing it as a duty to all of us.

I'm not going to share my thoughts on the rightness of past and current wars, but -

Most of the people I've known who've joined the military did so because it was that or homelessness due to poverty (several were VERY young parents.) And many of them developed a strong sense of duty/discipline and a stronger sense of what it is to take a human life. During my 7 years in the nursing field, my coworkers with military backgrounds were least likely to call in sick, cut corners or disrespect or abuse patients. They were also the ones I trusted the most.

Again, "most", not all. But please don't paint all former and current members of the military with the same brush. If I, who grew up in a family that hated the military, can say this, then so can any other Americans.

Take a look at every single taped message since the 1st (in which a jaundiced, extremely sickly Osama stated that he was in Pakistan, and that the laws of Pakistan do not allow such activities) - none of those men look alike. One of them is black, for god's sake.

Now, I'm sure Osama knew exactly what his name was being used for as regarded 9/11. He was CIA asset "Tim Osman", so he was almost certainly privy to all American plans. And once he was dead and buried in an unmarked grave (Wahhabi tradition), US officials were free to use him as a boogeyman whenever public support for the wars waned.

I think this woman's capture is a way to try to regain public confidence in our government's terrorist tracking skills, but what a load. She wasn't an asset to us - that's why she's been hunted down.
