Well, I would say that we shouldn't be investigating anybody unless we have evidence they are guilty of something. You mention Israel -- they use security measures that would be unthinkable here in the US and it STILL doesn't stop terrorism. You stop terrorism by understanding its source and addressing the root cause. Trying to put the whole country in lockdown and starting McCarthyism all over again isn't the solution.
The goal of the hearings, the first of which is being held Thursday, is "to establish and show the American people that there is a real threat of al-Qaida recruiting and of homegrown terrorists being self-radicalized within the Muslim community," according to Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., the new chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.
Any time I hear someone scheduling a hearing just to try to prove what he already believes, I get skeptical. Shouldn't the conclusion come AFTER the evidence has been presented and not before?
"But many Muslims, as well as leaders of other religious and legal advocates, reject the premise of the discussion — that Islam can be singled out as more prone to engender radicalization and violent extremism than other religions."
Yeah. We need to hold hearings on the possible radicalization of the Amish and Mennonites too, right? And look at all of the Jewish suicide bombers.
Give us a break, and stop trying to deny reality in the name of 'Political Correctness'.
McGin, very much agree. This fool King is demonstrating his new powers to perpetuate his xenophobic beliefs. The worst part is that rather than doing any actual good, the main and obvious reason for this hearing is for political gain and to scare everybody about radical Islam while simultaneously bringing a whole lot of innocent, good American people under suspicion. I'm not Muslim, and I'm not opposed to reasonable measures of profiling, but when you do it in such a blatant manner as King, you lower the public image of this country and provide yet another great recruiting tool for terrorists worldwide. I'll bet Osama bin Laden is very happy about these hearings.
Well, since 9-11 it has been MORE difficult for the extremist muslim terrorists to gain entry into the US, and there are numerous terrorist attacks or attempts coming from WITHIN the US, so how else would you explain?
Eric Holder, Obama and Janet Napolitano acknowledge the attacks have increased.
This is not a ''hornets nest'' it is a ''mob of angry muslims'' please investigate interrogate and spy on evey mosque in america! SORRY call me names I do not trust them!
Can you look at a person or a photo of a Muslim, Christian, Black, White , Jewish, Hispanic, Asian person and tell me if they are extremist or violent?
I CANT TELL.
THIS IS WHY WE NEED TO HAVE THESE HEARINGS long overdue!
FOR THE SAFE FREEDOM OF THIS COUNTRY THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN AND IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE YEARS AGO.
Well, let's look at major terrorist attacks and see where Islamic radicalism was behind it. First World Trade Center bombing? Foreign recruited Islamic radicals. 9-11? foreign recruited Islamic Radicals. Oklahoma City Bombing? Home-grown Christian Radical. Unibomber? Home-grown, just plain radical. Hmmm. It would seem that Congress might be a little better served examining how to deal with home-grown radicals in general rather than focusing on any one religion. And, as an observation, all those evil Jewish and Catholic radicals need to step up their game.
I don't buy into the argument that the premise of the discussion is invalid. Christians, Jews, Buddists, and other religious orders of faith aren't encouraging their followers to decapitate the innocent in a live video that is later shown on the Web. MUSLIMS are doing that. They decapitated over 400 Russians in their campaign of violence in Chechnya and have "executed" women who attempted to promote a "Kumbaya Moment" in a bid for peace.
It is very proper and very right for this Congressman to conduct these hearings. If he did not, he would be violating MY right to equal protection under the law.
McGinn........ You and the others are fools! Simple enough for you???
If you want to prevent a crime of any sort, you need to start with what the criminals of a specific type of crime have in common. It just so happens that this type of crime, this specific crime, has a commonality. Now investigate as to why...
The larger question is what will be done with the results... will the answers find their way into security patterns, or find their way under the rug, right next to the investigation into the financial meltdown...
Its always best to put the shoe on the other foot and look at the situation to gain a common sense perspective. Just suppose (for a second) there were a small block of radical westerners, living in muslim countries who were targeting muslims with terrorist attacks...for whatever reason. Don't you think a responcible government of whatever given country would try to root out the bad guys??? And if they didn't, they would be shirking their duty to the safety and security of their citizens. And for the citizens to NOT be aware and observant is rediculously irresponcible.
Remember people, radical islam kills muslims too. If the GOOD folks don't all work together to solve the problem, the problem will grow. Moderate, western muslims MUST stand with law abiding majority of this country, and others, against the radicals, otherwise YES, they are ALL suspect. Too bad.
If there is indeed a trend within American Islam, then the government needs to be aware of it to try and head off any terrorism. Even so, the civil rights of all still need to be protected, otherwise this could turn into a witch hunt.
As for racial and religious profiling.....we need a think tank to come up with better methods of detecting covert criminal planning. This type of profiling is not only presumptious, but it could actually be a waste of time.
i am an avid obama hater. but lets look at history. 9/11 terrorist attacks: it comes ouot that the government had a"idea"that it was going to happen, the country went nutz blaming Bush! why didnt he stop it!!!!
this is exactly why!! we are under attack by terrorist and look at how mad people are going thru security at the airport! King wants to hold a hearing about RADICAL MUSLIMS and look how pissed people are! he isnt talking about going WW2 japanese americans, he wants to let people know that there are home grown terrorist in america.
Fort Hood anybody?!!! a major in the US army?!! yes i call that homegrown!!
Jihad Jane, blond hair blue eyes?!!! yea very home grown.
even muslims that are against terrorism dont do enough. i want every Muslim group to speak out AGAINST terrorism! i want TV commercials, radio Ad's, awareness groups!! THEY NEED TO PROVE TO ME THAT THEY HATE TERRORISM AS MUCH AS I DO!! but so far its been a soft whisper coming from them. until i see a bigger presence from them voicing to stop terrorism, then i dont believe it. the one or 2 that do something are great, cause they arent going against terrorism, but against their religion. and i say that because terrorist have ingrained islam into terrorism, not because islam breeds terrorist. and if you go against the religion, you must die. "kill the infidales"
yea thats in there!
so obama is taking great steps by having one of these hearings, and not stopping it cause it might hurt feelings. political correctness is over rated.
PS i know obama isnt having the hearing personally, but he hasnt come out and totally bashed it either.
This is a hearing. It does not hurt to ask questions and create a report. Oh yeah, before I forget, can we have a hearing investigating bankers and wall street over my tax dollars (bailout) and also their complicity in the madoff Ponzi scheme. Oh and investigate yourselves for having known about it and not protecting Americans from this disaster. Don't just try to protect Americans from physical terrorism. Protect Americans from economic terrorism as well.
OMG, HATRED is a poison which shouldn't be ingested.
even muslims that are against terrorism dont do enough.
i want every Muslim group to speak out AGAINST terrorism!
i want TV commercials, radio Ad's, awareness groups!!
THEY NEED TO PROVE TO ME THAT THEY HATE TERRORISM AS MUCH AS I DO!!
Funny but I dont see the catholic church making TV commercials, radio ad's or forming awareness groups to address the didling of little boys... do you? Actaully - now that you mention it I dont see them condemning radical islam either - does that mean they support it?
The first paragraph is right, all these investigations in Congress and nothing. We take a little peek under the curtain about the ever increasing number of homegrown attacks from only one religious group and all he77 breaks loose. This religion of peace, riots when a cartoon is drawn, kills people when they look the wrong way at them, still indulges themselves with stoneing, genital mutilations, beheadings and honor killings and we have to worry that we're singleing them out? They have singled themselves out with this ever increasing radicalism and we should just shut up about it!
"You stop terrorism by understanding its source and addressing the root cause." I'm in exact agreement. But, how do you suppose they accomplish that without meetings of this nature?
This is the kind of reaction that creates distrust among many Americans about Islam. Instead of siding with us and supporting investigation and action against RADICAL Islam, we get protesting.
I can assure you of this, moderates may be protesting, but so are the extremists. You will not see extremists supporting a panel like this.
Until an American citizens rights have been stepped on by this panel... I fully support it.
He also charges that Muslim Americans are not doing enough to discourage extremists in their midst.
Can anyone tell me which family member or fellow mosque member turned in the underwear bomber? The Fort Hood Massacre? The attempted Times Square Car Bombing? The shoe bomber? Are we expected to believe that these men acted ALONE and had no assistance and no one else had knowledge of their plans?
Proof positive that your sympathy and political correctness does NOTHING to stop them. At least Mr. King is ATTEMPTING to! It’s just fine, until one of YOUR family members is killed in a muslim terrorist attack.
And he notes that of the terror plots that were disrupted, one-third to one-half of the tips to authorities came from others in the Muslim community.
If this were true, don’t you think it would make headlines???
Sounds like McCarty to me. I think the exclusions are unfair to an "unbiased" hearing. Further it looks like more waste of taxpayer money. The article says there are 100, or so, hearings a year. How many of those have you seen that accomplished anything more than allowing each committee member to get on a soap box and expound on his or her position on the subject. The members talk, or should I say lecture, more than the witnesses.
What is these hearing going to produce. Are they going to strenghten the Patriot Act and take more of our rights away? I doubt that they could get away with that. Let's not waste the time and money. There are better things to do!
Perhaps if the "moderate" Muslims would stand up openly and condemn terrorist organizations, such as Hamas and al-Qa'ida, they would be taken more seriously as loyal Americans.
Until that happens, I don't see how they can be trusted.
Following the succession of tens of thousands of vile internet insults leveled against Muslims:
1. Have these "hearings" and their tone already insulted many Americans who are Muslim (as part of 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide) who may be (and have been) in a position to provide valuable information?
2. If a policy goal is to promote unity and understanding between Americans with Mulsims of good will worldwide--and thus isolate and inhibit the growth of extremists or radicals--do these "hearings" and their tone already undermined that policy?
3. Will these "hearings" and their tone accomplish insult and hurt for Al-Queda to exploit, what Al-Queda by itself could not create?
3. If 1 or more of 1, 2 and 3 accurate, do these "hearings" promote or undermine the national security of the United States?
PS. If you were a loyal American who was also Muslim, how would you feel right now: Appreciated? Respected? Valued? Comfortable in your solemn religious observance?
King and Muslims in his Long Island district say the congressman used to be a champion of the Muslim community, visiting mosques and attending their weddings and dinners. He was also one of a handful of Republicans who supported efforts to protect Muslims in the Balkans from aggression by Serbian Orthodox Christians.
But the congressman says he became bitterly disillusioned after 9-11, when some of the local imams rejected the idea that Muslims were behind the devastating attacks.
Why can’t they just ADMIT that muslims were responsible for 9-11 instead of antagonizing? Non muslims don’t yell allah akbar!
I understand that Muslims and arabs dont want to be discriminated against. It is the same as any other religious group. They constantly declare that they are not all terrorists (and I believe it, I have friends that are muslims and they arent going to blow me up.)
What I dont get is why they wont get out of the way and let us hunt the people that want to terrorize this country. This should be their war and we are fighting it for them, so the least they can do is let us fight. The facts are simple, there is a small minority of Muslim extremists that want to kill everybody, so get out of the way and let us hunt them down. If that means you have to go through an extra metal detector at the air port then get over it (and why dont you thank the agents that check you through for possibly saving your life while your at it).
Rep Peter King-- Support for the IRA
In the 1980s, King frequently traveled to Northern Ireland to meet with IRA members.[12] In 1982, speaking at a pro-IRA rally in Nassau County, New York, King said: "We must pledge ourselves to support those brave men and women who this very moment are carrying forth the struggle against British imperialism in the streets of Belfast and Derry."[12][18] "In 1985, he convened a press conference before the start of New York City's St. Patrick's Day parade (for which he was Grand Marshal), and offered a defiant defense of the IRA: 'As we march up the avenue and share all the joy,' he declared, 'let us never forget the men and women who are suffering and, most of all, the men and women who are fighting.'"[19] Regarding the 30 years of violence during which the IRA killed over 1700 people, including over 600 civilians, King said, ""If civilians are killed in an attack on a military installation, it is certainly regrettable, but I will not morally blame the IRA for it". King compared IRA leader Gerry Adams to George Washington and asserted that the "British government is a murder machine"."
Like any youth group in America they'll find away to develop a counter culture. Do you think for a moment that women born in the U.S. are going to give up their civil liberties in the name of a religion that's half way around the globe.
In time they'll go through a reformation just like the protestants did to the catholics. FYI, most of our founding fathers were protestants.
On another note, let Saudi Arabia be for the time being, if those people have an up rising then gas will really effect our economy in the worst way.
McGin, hasn't the evidence ALREADY been presented? 29 "home grown" terrorists, ALL Muslim, recruited from their mosques and communities, radicalized, who attempted, some successful, terrorist acts. That's neither racism or profiling, it's a fact. If they were Hindu, Christian, Jewish, Scientologists, etc. etc. who were commiting terrorists acts and being recruited through their church or community, then they should be and would be investigated also.
I would think the peaceful Muslims would welcome any attempt to weed out the radicals and those who try to recruit them from their own communities. Young is doing them a favor. The radical recruiters will poison the minds of their children, send their recruits to their deaths, and they will kill the peaceful Muslims also who do not follow their ideas of Jihad along with the non-Muslims.
As they say, It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it!
Enough with the p.c. crap. Our very lives and freedoms are at stake, and the same fact holds for the peaceful Muslims as well.
As far as the article saying that Muslims are being singled out, jeered, threatened.....there are Muslims in every store where I shop, working there, shopping, wearing their traditional garb, and I have NEVER EVER heard anyone be rude or threatening or even unfriendly to them. I think that's a lot of hyperbole when they say how ALL the Muslims are victimized.
Rep Peter King-- Support for the IRA In the 1980s, King frequently traveled to Northern Ireland to meet with IRA members.[12] In 1982, speaking at a pro-IRA rally in Nassau County, New York, King said: "We must pledge ourselves to support those brave men and women who this very moment are carrying forth the struggle against British imperialism in the streets of Belfast and Derry."[12][18] "In 1985, he convened a press conference before the start of New York City's St. Patrick's Day parade (for which he was Grand Marshal), and offered a defiant defense of the IRA: 'As we march up the avenue and share all the joy,' he declared, 'let us never forget the men and women who are suffering and, most of all, the men and women who are fighting.'"[19] Regarding the 30 years of violence during which the IRA killed over 1700 people, including over 600 civilians, King said, ""If civilians are killed in an attack on a military installation, it is certainly regrettable, but I will not morally blame the IRA for it". sandtrich... Well gee, are you upset with Obama then? Please site your INCORRECT sources!
I have no issues with Islam. I DO have problems with the FACT that the majority of terrorism in the last 50 years has come from Muslims. If you people refuse to acknowledge that fact then well, we're doomed.
Fed Up----Washington Post, NY Times, Live footage interviews with King & Wiki. There's tons of information on the subject and he funded IRA terrorists. You can actually listen to the interviews if you can't read.
JAy, the moderateMuslims-which are the vast majority of Muslims in this country - HAVE and STILL DO condemn terrorism since 9/11. But the media never covers that.
Everyone wants to point out stuff like FMG which is a practice predating Islam and also practiced by Christians and Animists in sub-Saharan Africa, or other abuses and violations of the tenets of Islam by some uneducated Muslims living in places barely out of the Stone Age but no one ants to admit the good things about Islam, such as preservation and translation of ancient texts from around the Mediterrenean during Europe's Dark Ages, the invention of Algebra, the camera (yes, it's an Arabic word), surgical tools STILL used today, and public education for both genders. During the Inquisitions, Jews and many "heretical" sects of Christians fled to Muslim countries to escape persecution and were welcomed and protected with rights of full citizenship.
If you actually took the time to get to know your Muslim neighbors and co-workers you'd find them to be honest, hard-working, genuinely good folks who love their kids and want a better life for them, who worry about jobs, education, fair taxes, and all the same stuff you worry about including terrorism. It isn't fair or just to blame all of them forthe actions of a few.
Right now there's a legislator in the State of Georgia who wants to make having a miscarriage a felony punishable by life in prison or even death if the woman can't prove that it wasn't caused by "human intervention". This same man tried to get laws changed to reassign "victims"of rape and domestic violence to "accusers" and stripping legal protections from them (like the right to get a restraining order against an abusive spouse), and is part of a growing movement among conservative evangelical Christians to subject women to lesser status than men...you know, putting us in our place as defined by their view of their religion. Why isn't anyone calling that terrorism?
Our Constitutional rights are being stripped away from us right along with our nation's economic security by our own elected leaders from BOTH sides of the aisle, leaving us at great risk of being mired in poverty and without the rights to determine our own destiny. Why isn't anyone calling that terrorism?
Islamic radicals invented the practice of violent 'Jihad' where they blow up themselves and as many people around them as possible because they think it will ensure that they'll get to heaven.
A poll was done recently and around 60% of muslims support this kind of jihad or contribute to that cause.
It's about time that this country did something to stop the radicalization of our country's Muslim population.
When the Muslims protest, just remember that their Koran teaches them and they believe that they must force non-believers of Islam to either convert or be killed. This isn't speculation, their actions indicate this is how their religion grew so quickly.
Convert or die! Take your choice.
Whining about profiling and doing cumbuya won't change these facts.
How quickly we forget Timothy McVeigh, the Unabomber, etc. Why must we pick on the Muslims? Or the Hispanics? This country is based on illegal immigrants - just look on the reservations! And it was a terriosts invasion when the British came to this country. You don't have to be Muslim to be a terriost. The KKK are listed as a terriorist faction - and yes they do still exist! Quit being judgemental and racist and try to be part of the answer by reaching out to all people of all races and religions. I always find it funny to hear someone claim to be a Christian and a racist at the same time....
Mixman34, how would you know that? In the past 50 years I have heard of Puerto Rican nationalist, the IRA, The Weather Underground, a multitude of African-American groups, the Basque Separatists in Spain, the Animal Liberation Front, all manner of Maoist groups throughout the world, to name but a few, but you are scared to death because of a particularly ghastly act of terrorism on September 11th, 2001. Out of a religion that numbers nearly two billion people worldwide, nineteen hijacked airplanes and crashed them into buildings with thousands of people inside. It was horrific and it was done on behalf of a particularly brutal and bizarre form of Islam. From that horrible act, you have branded an entire religion, a religion that many believe brought the world out of the dark ages, and projected us in the modern era with its study of science, math and history, as a terrorists cult. I believe many of us should investigate ourselves.
Do love to see our radical liberal lunatic fringe is out in force today.
Perhaps the real focus of a Congressional investigation should be expanded to include the radicalization of the Liberal movement in the United States and their role as apologists for every terrorist group in the World and their well-known xenohobia.
Your the same folks that were screaming that 9/11 and the bombing of Pan AM Flight 103 were justifed attacks on the United States because of US support for Israel, the release of poison in the London Subway system and the slaughter of train passengers in Spain were all justified because of Iraq, the bombings in Bali and the destruction of 2 US Embassies in Africa with the loss of hundreds of lives were simply the justifed acts of poor muslim acting to protect their religion from evil Christians.
What is obvious is that you do constitute the 5th column in the United States and our War on Terrorism.
There have always been a few anti-Americans in our midst. But this group encourages the stoning of woment and have no respect for women's civil rights. They are trying for force Shariah law.
Ternan and wheatfield are examples of those who simply cannot think for themselves and believe whatever horrible thing they have been told, without any sort of reasonable understanding. The world is a terrible place it is all 'their fault.'
Wag: Actually if you take off your rose tinted glasses and come out of your drug enduced stupor in fantasyland then you might experience something called reality.
Ah but that would be so cruel to find out your simply a puppet to those that shape your thoughts, your views and your life. Reality is simplpy too much for some folks.
The average American should take a lesson from the Muslims on how to stand up for your rights in this country, it seems we have all forgotten how and that is why Large corporations and Wall street OWN this country!
So hearings are what is stiring the hornet's nest this time?
Here's a deal. We should agree to allow the government to investigate, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and Wicans. Feel better? Now after the government finds no evidence of an organized terrorist network, community of sympathizers, or covert support of Jihad and of terrorism, the investigations directed at these religions will end. Islam will be held to the same standard. If you Muslims have nothiing to hide you will agree to this.
What I find hilarious is Liberal/Progressive wack jobs aren't against terrorism unless it's terrorism against policies they support. You can fly planes into buildings and America asked for it. One person kills an abortion doctor and it's terrorism. That's just one example.
Fed Up---To get that idiot out of the US. Note : China's ambassador as well. I'm giving you proof that King is a Terrorists and you want to ask silly questions. Your kind of blindness--a service dog can't help.
The Right in this nation are some sorry excuses for Americans. They whine incessantly about upholding the Constitution in less of course it doesn't suit there purposes. They natter endlessly about government in their lives and fund libertarian and anarchistic politicians and causes. Almost any criticism of wackos like Dobson or Robertson is an assault on Christianity, it's OK to join a militia and create weapons dumps for an upcoming race war, it's OK to murder a doctor in his church but heaven forbid you build a mosque in NYC. It's just peachy to rant about taking back America and then not having the gonads to explain who it i your taking it back from. Intellectuals like Palin, Beck, Limbaugh, Christine ODonnell, Bachman,Angle and Demint lead your movement while you move to defund education and research and development. Peter King who defended and raised money for the Irish terrorist IRA now wants people investigated for their religion an investigation of Irish Catholics or Fundamentalist Preachers would never see the light of day. Most offensive to me perhaps is the constant rewriting of US history from the beliefs of the Founders through the history of US economic systems. Redistribution of wealth is OK as long as it only moves upwards and its OK to balance budgets on the backs of the middle class and less fortunate but touching entitlements for corporations and billionaires is downright UnAmerican.
You people disguising yourselves as the keepers of American values while ripping down all those which matter truely disgust me.
Number one! I am an American Muslim! Number two! Some of the comments here are making want to seriously puke!
We DO stand up and denounce terrorism, but trying to find a popular news outlet (that, you know, people actually watch) to cover our rallies is like pulling teeth. I guess "good Muslims" just aren't cool enough for the media.
Yes we are beautiful women, that's why we cover up. We're people with hearts, personalities, and intellects aside from our beauty, which is reserved for our husbands. We're not out to "bait" other men thank you very much!
And no we're NOT dangerous! Get your heads out of the FOX "news" hole, and try thinking for yourselves for a change! Out of the billions upon billions of us in the world, only a handful have decided to forgo all rationality, and go the way of the bozo! The only one I've ever been dangerous to is myself, and that was before I converted! I haven't EVER been homicidal, and could never hurt a fly!
Stop making yourselves look stupid! Some of the people here probably also believe that the world is gonna end in 2012!
Thank you for proving the point that a good amount of people are either that ignorant or fail to recognize the threat of Islamic terrorism to Americans and American interests. I didn't say there have never been any other terrorist groups.
I guess maybe I can't recall as an American being threatened by by Maoists and Basque Separatists (sarcasm). HA! Open your eyes.
Rep King equals Joe McCarthy. Who needs the government to hold hearings when you people have condemned all Muslims? Do you people understand that the entire premise of going after a particular religion is against the Constitution? There's nothing more dangerous and murderous that a white Christian male of European descent.
When Israel sunk a US Navy ship, spied repeatedly on the US--they remained on good terms with the US. Our funneling of cash to Israel and support of their Apartheid rule over the Palestinians fuels unrest and ant-west sentiments.
True Islam and the Western Culture don't mix. It's like water and oil. How can you practice Shariah Law, and then come to the United States, where we have things like Freedom Of Religion, and Women's Rights, and expect to not have a conflict? Shariah Law and Western Culture are polar opposites.
Allow me to quote some verses from the Koran:
Sura 9, Verse 5 "Fight and slay the unbelievers wherever ye find them, and lie in wait for them in every statagem of war. But if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them..."
Sura 9, verse 29 "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of truth, even if they are of the 40 people of the Book, until they pay the jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."
Sura 5, verse 28 "Oh ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors; they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them for friendship is of them. Verily, Allah guideth not the unjust."
Sura 3, verse 28 describes the doctrine of taqiyya, which explains that believers should not be friends with infidels, except as deception, always with the end goal of converting, subduing, or destroying them.
Now, I realize I'm cherry-picking verses, but these are the things that bring radicals to strap bombs to themselves. Not every Muslim is a suicide bomber, but most suicide bombers are Muslim, and we would be foolish to not properly evaluate this threat.
One last thing; an excerpt from a document obtained during the 2007 Holy Land Trial investigating terrorist funding. It is a Muslim Brotherhood Strategic Memorandum on North American Affairs and was approved by the Shura Council and the Organizational Conference in 1987. Among other things, it says this:
The process of settlement is a "Civilization-Jihadist Process" with all the means. The Ikhwan [the Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and Allah's religion is made victorious over all other religions. Without this level of understanding, we are not up to this challenge and have not prepared ourselves for Jihad yet. It is a Muslim's destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes...
It looks like Rep. King has learned the hard way what many of us did: Islam is a terrorist cult.
The college professor experts can be dismissed out of hand --is there anybody MORE out of touch than a college professor?
I like the references to "McCarthyism" - people seem to forget that McCarthy was right- there WAS a communist plot to take over the U.S., The Rosenbergs WERE guilty. The Commies DID support the American Communist Party. The government WAS shot through with communist supporters. Libs ignore that.
One thing that really bothers me about liberals is that history is never learned from. They ignore it, to this countrys peril.
If "moderate anti-Islamic radicalization" Muslim really exist, they should get out there and make a little more noise against the Islamists, and do a LOT more to stop terrorism. Their whispering about it while sitting in their living rooms isn't doing much good.
Go get 'em Rep King. Good luck with the libs. They'll support anything.
Hey Sven....VERY good idea!!! This should end their whining for sure!
So hearings are what is stiring the hornet's nest this time?
Here's a deal. We should agree to allow the government to investigate, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and Wicans. Feel better? Jim: your a typical liberal member of the lunatic fringe of politics in the United States. You mistake converatives as radicals when conservative american thought has dominated US politics since its inception. Bottom line the conservative movement has changed over time but they have remained true to their primary mission - a strict adherence to the Constitution and the Bill of rights and a strict interpretation of the same. Its liberals that are trying to change the moral fabric of our people and our nation to meet their own personal agenda.
You're over-generalizing about all religions. Just exactly how do you plan on effectively abolishing all religion in the U.S. anyway? Not even the Soviet Union was able to do that. It just goes underground when it becomes illegal, and there are too few outsiders that are willing to blow the whistle, because they can see when an activity isn't hurting anything.
Just out of curiosity where exactly is the hard evidence that ALL American Muslims WANT Sharia' law here? Just what the media says huh? yeah thought so. Let me clarify, NO we don't! Sharia' law is a specific set of principles which govern how a Muslims lives their life. Being modest, shunning mind altering substances, devotion to God, and living your life with constant humility in the presence of our creator. Aside from that the United States Constitution works just fine and dandy for 99% of us. The other 1% just needs a serious reality check!
We should allow this hearing to be conducted .....& while were at it let look into all other forms of religions in the US. People have for too long used religion for there own personal agenda.
East Harlem you make a very valid point! I never claimed that ALL Muslims (or rather people calling themselves Muslims) were good. Radicals in this country are down right spooky. But we also have to take into account that Islam isn't the only religion with idiots! My Mother (a devout Christian) shakes her head all of the time at people claiming to be prophets of Jesus.
And just to dispel those of you on this comment board who will claim that she couldn't be a good Christian if she let her daughter become Muslim. True Chritstians don't hate others because they're different! He who is without sin may cast the first stone!
You might want to ask Imam Rauf…so is he the 1% that needs a serious reality check? Were you against the ground zero mosque?
"It also would not be a violation of church-state separationto have a subsidiary entity within the judiciary that employs religious jurists from diverse religious backgrounds to comment on the compliance of certain decisions with their religious views and to provide guidance to their religious communities on how kosher or Shariah compliant these decisions are. '
- Feisal Abdul Rauf
Rauf concluded in the Washington Post, shortly after President Obama's June 2009 Cairo speech, that he'd challenged Muslims to "Live up to the tenets of our religion, embrace Shariah law as conceived by the Prophet, and see what happens."
Rauf seeks more U.S. legal "leeway" for sharia --- to put Muslims above the law --- by
"[Inviting] voices of all religions to join the dialogue in shaping the nation's practical life, [and allowing] religious communities ... to judge ...according to their own laws.
On Dec. 9, 2007, Rauf said in Arabic to Sa'da Abdul Maksoud of the Hadi-el-Islam website, that current, unjust governments, "do not follow Islamic laws." He advocates establishing sharia
"in more [ways than one] ... through a kingdom or a democracy, [so long as the] fundamentals of Shariah [exist, with standards of Muslim scholars] required to govern. ...to organize ... relationships between government ... and the governed."17
In March 2010, also in Arabic, Rauf stridently denounced interfaith discussions. "I don't believe in interfaith dialogue," he said in an article that highlighted his statement in its headline. 18
a very (overly) dramatic statement sir, but your argument is predicated on the idea that our government is "out to get us", which is rather obtuse.
A democratic government against its people is against itself. No matter how well it grabs headlines, our elected officials are not hell bent on enslaving the american populace.
Funny you should mention 3 groups that are bent on the destruction of the American System. Multiculturalism doesn't work. Europe has admitted it. Assimilate or leave.
Are you and C Sheen sharing?? What a foolish thing to say... Here, in this country, we the people are THEY!!! So, bottom line get involved, get off your azz, do something positive!
I guess you do not recognize that my comment was a paraphrasing of the famous statement by Martin Niemoller about the failure of German Society to resist the rise of Nazism. Just replace Muslim with Jew and you get an exact quote.
The point I was trying to make is that singling out one group of people and then demonising them is a very dangerous game.
I wonder if Rep. Peter King would have supported Congressional hearings into the Irish American communities support for the IRA? I doubt he would since he used to personally raise money for that Terrorist organization.
your very wrong here, they are out to destroy the middle class, and work9ng poor.
The unions are next on their list. All this crap about the economy, and jobs, etc etc all smoke screens.
Where are the jobs Bonner
The investigation is into the causeation of the crime... Is it the air they breathe, is it the water theey drink? Is it a concept they hold dear??
We are talking about a crime which would fit widely held standards here in the USA.
As for the Irish... Others did investigate those issues... Many were held accountable and a few saw jail time... Money laundering! Study what really happened in the past, don't just read a quote and believe it fit's your ideas..
Apply this to Islam as it exists in certain Islamic nations:
"First they came for the non-Muslims,
and I didn't speak out.
Then they came for those who didn't dress properly, or who flirted, or who championed human rights, or who wanted democracy
and I didn't speak out.
Then they came for the gays and lesbians,
and I didn't speak out.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me."
SOME Muslims are terrorists, not all certainly, but Islam as a whole is intertwined with social laws that punish and kill people for religious infractions. Left wing, PC folks have no problem decrying "attacks" on Islam, but say little or nothing about Islamic law - which would clap them all in jail too - because to do so would be to "criticize someone's religion". I am a life long liberal, but I hate this feel good left wing crap as much as I detest right wing nonsense. ALL religions have issues, but Islam - unlike Christianity in the west - is still firmly rooted in the 6th century, not only in religious teachings (no problem there) but in how those teachings translate to the structure of Islamic society and the enforcement of its rules. It is anti-western in this regard, and most certainly bears scrutiny.
"He's not going after mainstream Muslims," said Steve Emerson, executive director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism, who has long warned about the danger posed by home-grown terrorists. "He's going after radicals."
America is a melting pot of all kinds of people. Americans are all peoples, religions and beliefs. The best and the brightest came here from across the seas for freedom and liberty, but a small determined group of radicals is out to undermine the freedom of all. This group still believes in honor killings, stoneings, beheadings, genital mutilations and that the rest of us are infidels. They have participated and/or assisted in 22 separate acts of terrorism here in the US. Why are you defending the protests against this one investigation out of thousands? Maybe you too feel these acts should be allowed to continue against our fellow Americans. I am not!
You are funny! Do you honestly think Boehner and Obama are any different except their ideology? They both want the same thing. They want the status quo for their respective parties so they can continue to keep us arguing amongst ourselves while they continue to reap personal gain from which ever special interest that wants their bidding done.
Kamp is one of the few who sees the biggest picture. America was supposed to pride itself on temporance, tolerance and do best with assimilation. But, the truth is America has always been xenophobic, bigoted and self consumed.
To expand on Kamps value moment, it is our duty to bring people forward, and assimilate them. (Ostracizing)Two sides....one leads to hate and revenge. (Poverty) The other leads to out-breeding and overthrow. The best choice, the third side of the triangle is to bring a balance, a peace and understanding. Muslims will try, and we must also. the other two choices lead greater more costly problems. As the Middle East now realizes. Us too.
"The investigation is into the causeation of the crime... Is it the air they breathe, is it the water theey drink? Is it a concept they hold dear??"
I doubt it has much to do with air or water.
I think if you are really serious about looking at what causes radicalization then you should give a serious look at misguided aspects of US Foreign Policy that serve to create a sense of injustice and provides oxygen for those who seek to exploit a sense of grievance.
Such as why 490 members of Congress felt it necessary to urge President Obama to Veto the latest Security Council statement against Israeli's illegal settlements.
From an outsiders perspective, Islamic Radicalization is largely a by product of US Middle East Policy.
"Gee Kamp, then why would Obama offer him the Ambassadorship to Ireland?"
Because maybe the Irish see his support for the IRA as a good thing, since a large portion of the Republic of Ireland supported the IRA's aims even if they disagreed with the methods.
I guess the people we should be looking at is the little old white ladies, trying to get to the grand kids house, for Turkey day...HUH?
It's like all the talk about "illegal immigrants", 90% (or better) are of Hispanic origin, but you can't check out Mexican Americans, because it is NOT politically correct! OMG, you racist PIG, that would be "Racial Profiling"!!!
If these Muslims are not doing anything wrong and they love our country, you would think they would work with the authorities, rather than being upset over this? Most every time I read the news, there is ANOTHER MUSLIM COUNTRY, threatening America! Now no matter the reason, America has the right to defend itself, from the INSIDE and the OUT side.....
There's always some "Group" screaming about something.....Get over it and HELP us catch these people that are a threat to America and lets go on with our lives!
Actually, if you really think about the statement you're paraphrasing, it's about groups coming together to fight against a single opressive group, before that opressive group gets to the others individually. Seems much more a warning for christians, daoists, buddists and atheists, etc., to stop islam now before there's no one left to speak up for you. It wasn't that the Nazi's singled out the Jews. In fact exactly the opposite in the long run. It was about how the other groups failed to band together to stop the intolerant one before it was too late. Stop islam now.
Yo Kamp: If you check history you will find there were several Congressional hearings on the role of the Irish americans and their support of the IRA. This did result in criminal investigations of several US Irish front charities and US citizens for their financial support and recruting campaign for the IRA terrorist organization. The investigations did result in prosecutions.
We did the same against Germans during WWI and WWII and the and Japanese during WWII. So the US muslim community is experiencing nothing unusual - they hate the scrutiny because they do have been actively engaged in providing materiel support to world-wide muslim erxtremism.
Markc, I think what Martin Niemoller was saying is that everybody who loves freedom needs to be constantly on guard against those in power who would seek to divide us into groups and then crush us one by one.
When did the IRA fly planes into the World Trade Center. Sit and wait and then the problem will be out of control. Someone out there needs to go to war with whoever the extremist are that are threatening the world. Any country, any State or province, any city, town or district, anywhere, are talking about the same thing. Muslim extremist threatening their quality of life and culture. Get with it, they are trying to take over the world. Good Muslim people with no ties to these radicals and anyone for that matter who associates with the Muslim community and has no ties to radical extremism should have nothing to worry about. The people of the world want to be free of this threat so how do you suppose they should go about doing it. By ignoring them? Get real! If you have an argument against exploring a global threat maybe you should be looked at as well.
And torrorism was reduced by 99.9% and people throughout the world could go to a market with their children and go about their daily lives without fear of being blown to pieces.
You all (Hans especially) seem to forget about an unfortunate branch of culture called "wahabism". Look up the definition! A couple of rather hostile mid-eastern countries are run by it. It oppresses the crap out of it's people, and has VERY LITTLE to do with Islam itself. You may want to do some research before making generalizations about a religion.
If Muslims weren't killing and raping people all of you liberals would hate them; you do realize that they are conservative, religious zealots, don't you?
Wake up: Oh so ALL of the women and children in American shelters were attacked by Muslims huh?! Yeah, right, try to sell me something else bud! Consevative religious zealots huh? Right I'll believe I'm a conservative religious zealot! I really feel sorry for you! I work full time, am in control of my life, my home, and my thoughts and ideas. My husband and I ask each other before any decisions are made. He is NOT my "master" nor is he my "captor". you need help!
Sharia law is already being practiced by some Muslims here in the US, and Europe is already shocked by what Muslims have done to their culture; they are a real threat to our society and principles.
In other news, a Muslim father hits his daughter with his car and kills her for being "too Westernized". You see Mariam it isn't just "unfortunate" that radical Muslims kill innocent people and treat women like possessions, it is an affront to all humanity; and your complicity contributes to the situation.
Europe shouldn't be shocked by what has happened to their culture. The writing was on the wall and most people refused to read what it said. This didn't happen over night in Europe and it isn't happening over night here. It just takes people with half a brain to see what is going on and if you dont like what it's doing to your country then stand up and say so. It's not too late for Europe and it's definitely not too late for the US. A little common sense goes a long way.
Wake up, the guy wasn't practicing Islam correctly. NO WHERE IN THE QURAN DOES ISLAM GIVE PERMISSION TO KILL YOUR FAMILY!!!!! "Light beatings" are permitted. Do you know what a light beating is???!!! A spanking! The guy was practicing wahabism. And NEWS FLASH! wahabism is only three hundred years old! Islam is 1400 years old!
Maryam, I feel bad your even on here thinking you have anything to defend. A good person is a good person. The commission wants to find the not so good people. They do exist and they did destroy half the infrastructure of Manhattan and they are supported by many Muslim people who do not actively participate in the actual crimes against humanity. In Europe it is a daily ongoing investigation into the Muslim radical cells. In Germany arrests are made very often and sometimes without concrete evidence. If the possibility exist people are arrested and questioned. If they have committed no crime but it can be proven they were supporting the radical belief, they are released but usually deported. That's how they keep their people safe. Their people are the German citizens that believe in their country and it's culture regardless of their religion. Sorry, nobody wants a golden capped Mosque next to their 600 year old Courthouse!
Tiger, I am defending my religion because too many people in this country (and on this comment board) look for ANY reason to demonize Islam. The population of Muslims in this country is so small that there wouldn't even BE a chance for Sharia' law to be implemented. America is a country in which people are free to believe and practice their beliefs with absolute freedom inside the letter of U.S. Constitutional Law! Yes, I do believe that radicalization of U.S. Muslims needs to be addressed, but the problem is how the gov is going about addressing it. If King was being objective about it, it wouldn't seem like the inquisition it's turning into!
I will agree with you, if it turns into some kind of inquisition or peoples rights are being abused then that would be terrible but something has to be done and what is going on in today's world will unfortunately have an effect on how your religion is perceived. That's life. I'm Roman catholic and all I ever read in these post when there is a story about my religion is how all priests are child molesters and how the Pope lets them do it. I don't even open a dialog with these people. In fact in two years this is the first time I even stated my religion outside of being christian...and then of course I have to hear stories about the medieval inquisition. Lets not mention all the people who want to tell me I might as well believe in Santa Clause still rather than have any faith in Christ! So hold your head up and live a good life, don't let these losers get to you.
Oh Mariam, "Light beatings" huh? thanks for that. A spanking? wow. My husband tried to give me a "light beating" and he would be trying to find HIS head because I might have to knock his block off!! I have a feeling you are a convert to Islam. And that is something I will never understand, especially as an American woman. It just goes against almost everything I believe in.
That's because you were never meant to be Muslim. And by the way If my husband ever laid a hostile hand toward me there would be blood... from him. Just because the Quran says you can, doesn't mean it's done. I don't know of any husband personally who has ever hit his wife. And also, I was refering to spanking kids, not wives.
Weren't Republicans going to focus on getting Americans back to work? I don't remember "Islamic radicalization" in the U.S. being a campaign issue in the last elections.
Weren't Republicans going to focus on getting Americans back to work? I don't remember "Islamic radicalization" in the U.S. being a campaign issue in the last elections.
They did say that, but that was before they realized that their mindless budget cuts would cost 700,000 jobs. Once they figured that out, the GOP just said "To heck with jobs! We don't care".
There are many things that happen in government everyday that no one pays any attention to and occurs while the bigger issues are being addressed. This is just one of them. Even as the article stated the only reason you are hearing about it is because the muslims are upset about it and the media spins it. My question is what muslims not upset about at any given time?
I think it's possible for those in government to focus on more than one thing at a time. I think Republicans are focused on cutting the budget. And I'm glad that someone is finally focused on these radical producing "peaceful religion" hypocrites. I hope we expel them all from the country! Do I seem intolerant? damn right I am.
Chuck, your hate for Republicans is showing. The House of Republicans, Democrats and Independants voted to cut Government's out of control spending. The Senate of Democrats, Republicans and Independents is working now to pass those cuts also. These cuts should reduce the Government's role in Business and leave more $$$ in the hands of people, to hire and create more jobs for you. In other words, they are doing what we sent them there to do! This little investigation into the killing of innocent Fellow Americans, does not take those challenges away nor detract Congress from their goal, since taking the oath of office less than 7 weeks ago. Geeze, get over it!
Why aren't there, Mike416? Because despite it's faults, the Church no longer wields medieval power, intertwined with civil power, that enables it to punish, beat, imprison, torture, or kill people for not following "the Faith". Islam - in Islamic countries - still HAS this power and USES IT. Islamic terrorism in part is shaped BY Islamic law, which places "the will of God" over individual rights, human rights, and subsequently, human worth. Easy to become a fanatic under such conditions.
Long before he became an outspoken voice in Congress about the threat from terrorism, he was a fervent supporter of a terrorist group, the Irish Republican Army.
If the terrorist is white, it's alright. If they're Christian it's all right. King also was a friend of Gadafi.
Weren't Republicans going to focus on getting Americans back to work? I don't remember "Islamic radicalization" in the U.S. being a campaign issue in the last elections.
Well, since the Dems are ignoring this issue the same way they are ignoring our southern border issue, Repubs had to do something.
Anthony, while you're busy throwing people out because of their religious beliefs - keeping in mind that 35%+ of US Muslims are native-born citizens and 35% of those converts - why don't we start throwing people out based on their ethnicity since that seems to cause a lot of strife as well? As far as I'm concerned, anyone who isn't Native American can go back to wherever it is your ancestors came from and take all your issues, attitudes, and problems with you. Oh, and the "my great-grandmother was an Indian princess" card isn't going to be accepted. Unless you are a member of a tribe or Native community, you're out.
And make sure you put your money where your mouth is and assimilate into the mainstream culture as quickly as possible.
The Republicans in Congress and the Senate can actually work on more than one issue at a time and do it effectively. They do not suffer from the malady prevelant within the liberal / democratic party camp of being serial processors and doing that poorly.
Allison: I do love when the liberal lunatic fringe play the Native American race card. I realize it does take a little effort and actually some thought and reasoning (never liberal strongsuits) but have you ever asked yourself where those so-called Native Americans came from? Did you think there was some kind of spontasneous combustion and voila there they were?
If you do a little study you will find those so-called native americans were simply one more migratory group - they were the next to last group actually with the Europeans the last. They, as all, largew migratory group subjugated those that were here before them, the "real" natives were assimilated or slaughtered until they literally diappeared.
Facininating how the truth and reality outweigh the drama of your race card. Also highlights the hypocrisy of almost all liberals. You are ever so typical, no lie too big, no law to sacred that it can not be violated by liberals in pursuit of their goals and agenda.. Wow kind of like revisiting Nazi Germany that used the Jews as a rally point, liberals use Republicans for the same purpose.
I agree. Let's start with the Catholics (remember all those pedophile priests?) and then move on to Southern Baptists (I know it's been a few years, but they haven't paid an appropriate price for all those lynchings).
Berney, you must be quite an idiot if you believe that pedophilia only concerns the Catholic Church. Actually, the Catholics were the only courageous enough to speak out against priests.
There are at least as many Imams concerned about this. But when a religion accepts different wifes, and under age marriage, what is illegal to priests is the norm to other religious groups! Even their prophet is a pedo.
Whether these hearings are good, bad or irrelevant, it's idiotic comments like this I just can't stand:
"I agree. Let's start with the Catholics (remember all those pedophile priests?) and then move on to Southern Baptists (I know it's been a few years, but they haven't paid an appropriate price for all those lynchings)."
Geez, Barney - think much?
The pedophile priests did not commit their pedophilia in the name of Catholicism, but because they were pedophiles plain and simple - just like any other pedophile of any other religious persuasion. The "Southern Baptists" did not commit lynchings in the name of their God, but at the altar of their own ignorance and evil.
Violent attacks by radical Islamists (what we're talking about here) are carried out in the name of their God and for their God - some even claim it is the will of their God and the desire of their God to spill the blood of the "infidel."
Not that conservatives have any better ideas, but liberals are fond of saying "we have to treat the root cause of the problem." Well, they are exactly correct in this case - and the root cause of what we've come to term "Radical Islam" is found in the teachings and philosophy of certain leaders that - though the majority of Muslims find these teachings reprehensible - are still out there spewing hate and fomenting violence.
Ahhh, a world without religion, now that would save many innocent lives, save many innocent children from a life of guilt, and free the minds of people to rely on themselves, instead of some magic flying spirit in the sky.
Religion is a death sentence to society in the long run. It was invented to explain simple things in nature that we now understand. It's time to let religion go, it's time is over. ALL religion is a menace.
ALL religions have killed, will kill, or are killing, right now. Christians aren't any better, remember the crusades? Massive murder, robbery, plundering, all in the name of god.
Berney, you must be quite an idiot if you believe that pedophilia only concerns the Catholic Church.
Thats not what he said. The problem is that these "people of god" exploit these children - who are only there in order to find god. I put them on the same level as suicide bombing terrorists.
Actually, the Catholics were the only courageous enough to speak out against priests.
When? After they got caught? LOL! They let this go on for nigh half a century and speak out only after it all comes to fruition.
The last heinous lynching was in 1998 - not too long ago. James Byrd.
This hearing is just a ploy to get the American public overly scared and worried about a religion. There will always be a few crazies in every religion, it's complete BS that people try to constantly single out Islam.
Bad humans. Human kind as a whole is more kind than evil and is why we still exist. To live in America the one true (for now) still free society is a gift. It is those who exploit the many for the riches for the few. Fear is natural, exploiting and capatilizing on fear is evil.
Fear is why these muslims dont speak up about the extremist, as the will to live is far stronger than the will to speak and condemn...especially when they are a part of misunderstood religion and culture where extremism is woven in.
Elvoid, those lynchings were indeed done by white folks using the Lord's name to condone torturing and murdering their victims. Check your history or talk to any white supremacist.
And the Southern Baptists and many Pentecostals think its perfectly fine for a man to beat or mistreat his wife if she isn't being submissive enough. They call that being a good and godly husband.
That throughout the course of world and US history only Baptists have conducted lynchings?
That religions are the real root of all evil in the world
That only atheists offer a truly enlighted path forward based upon their long history of benevolence.
Do the follwing names mean anything to you? They are all atheists and were leaders in their country's over the last 65 yearsep truly benevolent are those that claim to be atheists.
Pol Pot - slaughtered between 2,000,000 - 3,000,000 cambodians
Stalin - Slaughtered between 45,000,000 -65,000,000 Soviet citizens
Mao Zedung - slaughtered between 35,000,000 - 72,000,000 Chinese, etc
Kim II sung - responsible for the slaughter and starvation of 3,000,000- 5,000,000 North Koreans
dclady, point taken, the last heinous lynching was 1998. The last suicide bombing in a public place was when? 1998? Has there only been a few? There are reports of them almost daily!
Stop acting like Muslims are the only ones guilty of terrorism. Google "christian terrorism" and you'll get hits about examples of Christians doing horrific deeds. Every religion is guilty of doing terrible things in the name of their deity - stop singling out a single religion and trying to say it's more guilty and more evil than all the other religions.
Ternan----Pol Pot used Buddist warriors, (his most potent weapon)---count him out. Those numbers---you're using Stalin's WWII war dead that occurred during his alliance with the US against Hitler. Kim is his own god, etc. Those numbers--please give us a link to a reliable source. Mao took a starving country with the promise of a bowl of rice a day. Post WWII, after the Japanese can killed, plundered, and raped everything that was a mammal--what does that have to do with atheists? Thomas Jefferson was not a man of god--nor Ben Franklin--many of our founding fathers didn't believe in 'the pie in the sky".
If you can't or won't do what the American people sent you to congress to do, then create a smoke screen diversion to keep their minds occupied. They're stupid and won't know the difference.
Don: So true democrats and liberals have been doing that for at least 4 years - the Republicans come in kick some butt, push budget cuts to restore our economy and bring some fiscal responsibility back to GVT, but since they do not suffer the malady of liberals and the democratic party of being serial processors - the Republicans can actually address several issues effectively at once. No smoke screens necessary - we do not need to take over liberal / democratic party tastics.
So how is that closing of Guantanamo working out for you? Was it not supposed to be closed for 2 years by now?
Hmm I beleive I read that Obama is restarting those military tribunals again - interesting did he not promise to end those immeidately upon assuming the Presidency?
What happened to all of those terrorists being tried in civilisan courts?
I'm still waiting for Congress to hold hearings on the most significant threat of terrorism within the US -- the threat posed by extremist Christian militias.
They HAVE had a hearing on radical christian militias though, regular christians were not up in arms about it because they did not care for them either. Just because you are ignorant does not mean it did not happen.
Yeah, worry about the spider in the corner of your basement when a bear is knocking down your door. Liberals are brain dead.
Poor metahpor (not that you even knew what you were doing here). The problem is not all bears will be knocking on our door. In fact - proportionally - its probably only what 5-10% of islam is radical? So thats what? A paw? I know you people want to invade, destroy and occupy every country in the world thats not USA Lite - but give it a rest already.
And I love it when an undecuated hillbilly calls people brain dead. Amusing at the least.
Mike, have you done the math?? 5 - 10% of 1.5 billion means that there are 75,000,000 to 150,000,000 radical Muslims? I sure hope the percentage is much, much smaller.
Never the less, if there is just one, that one is like a splinter - it festers until it is pulled out.
The problem is not all bears will be knocking on our door. In fact - proportionally - its probably only what 5-10% of islam is radical?
You are correct, a majority of Islamic people are not radical Muslims. So how do we find the ones that are? Do we just assume they're all okay until one of them attacks?
This hearing is about weeding out those that are radical Muslims. It's not about assuming all Muslims are radical.
BeaumontVegasBill..( #6.7 )....BINGO, Bill....5-10% of a huge number is a BIG number....
$1.5 Billion dollars is a lot of money.....I could get by on 5-10%
And if the same numbers hold even close to true in America...There are about 2.5 million Muslims in America.....and we'll use the lower 5%....it still means that 125,000 may be terrorist inclined.
You know I'm getting sick of people using the terms liberal and conservative as insults. Steve and Sam, do either of you actually know anyone who is liberal or are you just pissing in the dark and hoping you hit someone?
If you are capable of it, how about looking these terms up in the dictionary, internalizing them, and then looking at people objectively rather than engaging in name-calling...especially when you're insulting millions of your fellow Americans whom you don't know. MOST people are political and social moderates, some leaning more one way on some issues and the other way on other issues, but by and large the vast majority of us stand on common ground. Quit trying to polarize us further - we're already in enough trouble as it is, fighting each other when we have elected leaders who are selling us down the river as fast as the contributions from the financial elite, Big Oil, and Big Business come in.
Christian militia is my favorate oxymoron. Just what do they intend? Walk out on the battlefield and turn the other cheek? Talk about a blasphemous use of Christ's name! There are ZERO true christians in christian militias.
Allison Shaw is spot on. Get a sense of what is right and wrong and stop calling people you don't know names. Name calling is a waste of time, most often inaccurrate.
These hearings can be used constructively. many Americans are ignorant about all forms of Islam just as many Muslims may be ignorant about our country. What better way could there be of clearing the air between cultures on a national stage? The sooner both sides come to an understanding, the sooner many muslims could smoothly assimilate into America. We must be upfront with our expectations and the must also be forthcoming with their knowledge of their culture. Hiding information will only create more distrust.
mike: If it is true that only 10% of all muslims are radical extremists that still constitutes 150,000,000 folks - nothing to sneeze at.
Also the United States is not interested in invading the world - quite the opposite in fact - we do not want 95% of those people or their individual country's.
We take military action based upon our CIVILIAN elected officials from the Republican AND DEMOCRATIC party deciding that we have a strategic interest or a country or group represent a clear and present danger to the United States or our interests .
Don't like it - then elect better officials that are more representative of your own personal views. positions and personal interests.
I am so scaired that our country is being taken away from us by Obama and his muslim plotters. I hope these hearings get to the bottom of why our country is going in the dangerous directions that we do not want.
yep and liberals want you to remain in a drug enduced stupor watching the world through rose tinted glasses as they shove their agenda down your throat - you know that agenda that was overwhelmingly rejected by the LEGAL United States citizens in elections conducted in November 2010.
And how is that NOT offensive? What about those who are native-born US citizens? As for those who are naturalized citizens, I'm willing to bet that having had to earn their citizenship they know more about this country and the US Constitution than you do.
Christianity isn't native here and has been used for 518 years to terrorize, exploit, subjugate, and exterminate the Native peoples. How about we ship all Christians out too?
What is it with you people and Christians? Why in earth would you people think that it's the "Christians" who are so fed up with Islam? It's just people, plain old simple people, a huge amount of them with no real religious affiliation at all that have had it up to their eyeballs with the insanity that Islam incites. Talk about deflection!
What if a bunch of young adult while males started @!$%# in Saudi Arabia or something? you dont think local govt would kinda sorta maybe look into it a bit? I think so..
I guess you don't know much about other people's held beliefs...
In any of the countries these people come from, to disagree is met met with death! "local govt look into it a bit"....? Are you kidding? The only looked into is your coffin!
In the US, we have a freedom of speech, in the Middle East you have a freedom to be made dead!
Far left historically is closer to modern day republicans. Lincoln, although a repub, wanted more government and the dem's wanted less gov and more states rights.
Yes yes we all know our history. Stop making ridiculous assertions based on the fact that none of the idiots on this board will know you're making it up.
The Left get to define what a True American is??? That's the only way you can win an argument. You define the rules, definitions and outcome. If you really had to debate, you'd be screwwed ricky!
My people have been here in this land for thousands of years, have fought in several wars for a country in which we weren't allowed to be citizens until 1924 and even then Congress argued as to whether we were actually human beings or not, has continued to treat us like dirt despite the fact that per capita Native Americans serve in the Armed Forces in higher ratios than any other group including whites, and nealry every male in my family has or is serving in the military. I am educated (BS in US History/Ed. Studies), law-abiding, have voted in every election since the day I got my voter registration card at age 18 (I'm 50), and have taken great care to always educate myself completely as to the candidates and issues before voting, and vote according to what I feel to be the greatest benefit for the public good.
Yet there are plenty of people out there who will call my citizenship or patriotism into question because I'm Native American or because my political beliefs don't exactly toe their line. True American? Grow up, folks.
Who, exactly would call your citizenship or patriotism into question?? I have never in my life heard anyone ever say anything derogatory about a native american, you seem to have done very well for yourself and you should be proud, why so bitter and angry?
Let's not forget the Christian wack jobs who attack abortion clinics, or for that matter, anyone who places laws from their invisible man in the sky above the law of the land.
Again Mark, the Christian faith doesn't teach them to do that. The people who do that are "wack jobs". There is another faith though that teaches beheadings, honor killings, genital mutilations and that you are an infidel that can be lied to and killed with the blessings of God. Do you think our Government should not protect you from them?
I think that both of you should take classes on Christianity and Islam so you know what is and isn't taught as part of either faith. Personally I never take anything on what someone else says it is because way too many people run their mouths on full throttle without any actual knowledge whatsoever to back it up.
ashok, it is an indian name right? Well let me tell you something my friend, you will never be accepted fully in America just because of you looks. So your can be a sell out, curse Muslims all you want you still be considered a foreigner. Actually you may even been seen as a Muslim, but it would be to much of a priviledge for you...
Sam, how dare you insult someone who is most likely a fellow American like that? this has always been a land of diverse cultures. Just exactly what the hell DOES an American look like? Is there such a thing as an American name? And why are you assuming that Ashok is a Muslim? It's a common name in India where there are Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs.
As a native-born American who is also Native American, let me invite you to either start treating your fellow Americans with more respect or take your bigoted self back to where ever it is your ancestors came from (and that's the ancestors who's ethnicity you identify yourself by).
IF, as muslims insist, they are loyal Americans and really WANT to be disassociated with extremists they should be the very ones clammoring for this hearing. Their reactions instead prove that their rhetoric is disingenuous. Muslims simply cannot be trusted.
This said it best. They should be the ones cheering the inquiry, so that we non-"God Is Great" nonviolent folks will know they are to be trusted in spite of what appears to be a crackpot belief system originating in the Middle Ages, and which has generated many, yes many, savage murderious attacks against Americans in the past ten years, unless the news articles are false...Perhaps the news left out all the violent attacks against Americans by the Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, and the others, committed against infidels, or perhaps I missed the news on those days.
Trust, but verify -- something any prudent person does. In full disclosure here in this comments section, I do admit that I am prejudiced against any religion that says that if you leave it, then you should be put to death (apostasy). That would be a religion for savages, wouldn't it?
Steve... A very true statement.. Way back in our American History, we had a dastardly evil doer... One Martin Luther King.... While he espoused a radical idea, that shocked white people to their core... Many white people stood in line with him... They were right!!
Now, where is that champion of the mainstream Muslims that want this terrorism to stop, and their name degraded? Do any of them have the courage to take a stand, or do they find it more simple to hide in the sand? Where are those that want to be right??
Yeah, don't hold your breath waiting for that guy to ever show up!!
If there was a hearing on the extreme views of straight, white males, would you be "clamoring" for it? Why should they have to defend their beliefs? We don't group all white gun-owning males into the crazy Timothy McVeigh category - why do we do it for Muslims? If you google "anti-radical Muslims" you get millions of hits - because there are millions of people who are condemning the radicals. If they really wanted to do any good, they'd have it as an informational and educational session, instead of the witch hunt that it seems to be morphing into.
@MisterNiceGuy - "they are to be trusted in spite of what appears to be a crackpot belief system originating in the Middle Ages". The same statement can be applied to Christianity - but you don't see hearings over that do you?
Not sure if you heard this shocking bit of news dclady, but , Timothy McVeigh is dead! Yeah, he was actually caught! and executed! wow. Now that that scary terrorist is out of the way can we deal with the ones that are left?
Also if you hear of any terrorist attacks planned by straight, white males be sure and turn them in to the proper authorities. Now wasnt that simple?
2) There has been no rash of anti-Moslem violence in the US.
3) If hearings were to be held concerning Christian ministers fomenting acts of violence there would be none of this trumped up outrage.
4) Moslems are the loudest in crying out against even the mildest criticism of Islam or the actions of anyone related to the Moslem community.
5) One would think Moslems would be happy to have hearings that would provide a platform to demonstrate their beliefs, practices and teachings, thus showing the world the truth of who they are.
I would think they are upset because the hearings would point out the true hidden dangers of this religion and all it stands for. You are correct in all your statements. There is no more violence, probably even less than is committed against Jews, Christians, or any other religion for that matter.
priusguy52, I gather from your name you have a Prius, your a guy and I am guessing your 52 years old. Wow you sound like one pissed of lib! I see you guys driving around in your little cars pissed off that you can't make everyone do what you want. So you know nobody cares what you think!! And your stupid little car is not going to save the planet! Ha Ha Ha Ha!
The fact that you are spelling Muslim " Moslim" is a clear indication of your understanding of the issues. If you had read the article in it's first sentence you would know how to spell the word correct.
This is the same bigotry and prejudism Muslims are facing everyday in this country.
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world and it is on the rise so, that being said wake up America. If we don't start making friends somewhere with this sector of society then the troubles will continue. Muslims that I have had the pleasure of knowing in my life are all very sweet loving people. They have much higher moral standards than the non-Muslim people I have had in my life.
People that are radicalized in any thought process need to be evaluated and talked about. I agree that similar hearings about other sectors of society have and will continue to take place and are needed.
Correction, there most certainly have been acts of violence against Muslims or those mistaken for Muslims. In 2003, two fifth-grade boys attacked and killed a second-grade Muslim girl in the bathroom of their school and bragged that they had avenged 9/11. Here in Nashville an Egyptian store owner who was a Coptic Christian was shot and killed by a man who called him a raghead and terrorist. Mosques have been vandalized with bigoted slogans and burned. We have a state legistlator trying to pass a bill ostensibly to outlaw Sharia but which is so vaguely worded that it could be used to outlaw the practice of Islam itself. There have been episodes of this kind of thing across the US since 9/11 and the perpetrators have admitted to targeting Muslims or people they perceive to be Muslims.
Muslims have every right to be worried and "up in arms" as many put it since no matter how hard they try to prove that the vast majority are decent, law-abiding citizens they are going to get tarred and feathered for the actions of a very slim fringe of hate-filled idiots.
William-781512 and all those who condemn speaking out against radical Islam:
In #15 Correction said:
5) One would think Moslems would be happy to have hearings that would provide a platform to demonstrate their beliefs, practices and teachings, thus showing the world the truth of who they are.
William, You actually used the incorrect spelling yourself by claiming that Correction had used the word "Moslim" and you responded that:
The fact that you are spelling Muslim " Moslim" (sic) is a clear indication of your understanding of the issues. If you had read the article in it's first sentence you would know how to spell the word correct.
This is the same bigotry and prejudism (sic) Muslims are facing everyday in this country.
Journalists switched to Muslim from Moslem in recent years under pressure from Islamic groups. But the use of the word Moslem has not entirely ceased. Established institutions which used the older form of the name have been reluctant to change. The American Moslem Foundation is still the American Moslem Foundation (much as the NAACP is still the NAACP--the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). The journal The Moslem World--published by the Hartford Seminary in Connecticut--is still The Moslem World.
But the real problem William is not spelling or the use of Moslem or Muslim. The issue is that you do not want to rationally look at what Correction and others are actually saying. What Correction said is NOT BASED on "prejudice" at all.
Instead William, (and all those responding to this Article defending and protecting the violent killers who use Islam as a pretext to commit mass murder); you want to protect the violent sick individuals who ALSO want to kill the Muslims that you say you have "had the pleasure of knowing" and they [Muslim's you know] are "all very sweet loving people." I am absolutely sure that fact is true.
Unfortunately, the Radical Islamists(who also live and hide in the US) will plot against and kill anyone who does not agree with their twisted belief system. These Radical Islamists will also kill your "very sweet loving" Muslim friends and anyone else who does not accept their perverted view of the World. Just take a look at Iran if you want a glimpse into what is in store for the United States and the World if we do not have the Courage to stand up to and stop these insane fanatics NOW.
Here is what the cost of continuing to put your head in the sand is, a glimpseof what is in store for us from the fanatical Islamist Dictatorship in Iran:
Prominent human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh has been sentenced to eleven years in prison, and banned from practicing law and traveling for twenty years. The judge sentenced her to five years in prison on a charge of “acting against national security,” another five years for “not wearing hejab (Islamic dress for women) during a videotaped message,” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” Nasrin Sotoudeh has been detained since her arrest on 4 September and has spent most of her time in solitary confinement with limited access to her family. She is reportedly very weak from undertaking three hunger strikes to protest the conditions of her confinement.
Ms Sotoudeh, a mother of two children, has defended Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi and other human rights activists, as well as juvenile offenders sentenced to death. Her conviction is based solely on her peaceful work representing her clients. The persecution of Nasrin Sotoudeh is just one example of the Iranian government’s pernicious campaign against human rights attorneys who struggle to carry out their work in a deeply flawed legal system. Several prominent human rights lawyers such as Shirin Ebadi, Shadi Sadr and Mohammad Mostafaei have been hounded into exile, while others such as Mohammad Seifzadeh have been sentenced to long prison terms; still others such as Abdolfattah Soltani await trial.
Here is more:
Student leader Majid Tavakkoli, a member of the Islamic Students Association, is serving a prison sentence of eight and a half years, imposed after an unfair trial in a Revolutionary Court. He started a hunger strike to protest the unjust sentence and his detention in solitary confinement around May 22, 2010. His brother and others reported that he has lost the ability to speak, and is suffering from a respiratory condition and internal bleeding. Amnesty International is concerned that he may not be receiving the medical attention he needs.
Majid Tavakkoli was arrested on 7 December 2009 after he gave a speech at a demonstration at Amir Kabir University of Technology in Tehran, marking Student Day. He was reportedly beaten during his arrest. The day after his arrest, in an apparent attempt to humiliate him, the Fars News Agency, linked to the Iranian government, published a photo of Majid Tavakkoli wearing women’s clothing, and claimed he had been wearing the clothes at the time of his arrest. However, in a massive show of solidarity, about 450 men posted photos of themselves wearing women’s clothing-some holding signs saying “We are Majid” on Facebook and other sites on the internet.
His trial was held in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran in January 2010. His lawyer was not permitted to attend. He was convicted of several offenses and reportedly received a five year sentence for “participating in an illegal gathering,” one year for “propaganda against the system,” two more years for “insulting the Supreme Leader” and six months for “insulting the president.” He was also given a five-year ban on any involvement in political activities and on leaving the country. He is serving his sentence in Evin Prison in Tehran.
Check out United4Iran.org if you want to see the TRUTH about where radical Islam IS taking us.
Instead of fussing about the proposed "Islamic Radicalization" Hearings in Congress which just might bring out the TRUTH and shed the light of day on the murders and atrocities taking place throughout the world; do some real research and stand up for the tortured and murdered victims!
Insane Radical Islamists have murdered scores of innocent people including young children (the radical Islamists plan to bring this nightmare to your neighborhood, friends and family):
OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE REAL THREAT TO WORLD PEACE!!
THE THREAT IS RADICAL ISLAM!!! DON'T BE SILENCED by MisGuided Political Correctness!! STAND-UP AND SPEAK OUT!!!
Wait a minute...you mean being a radical Islamic terrorist might be a BAD thing? Who knew? But since it's not polically correct, maybe we should target the Baptists...especially those old blue haired ladies. Never know when one of them is going to turn violently anti-American.
I think we'll probably keep denying the threat they pose until we wake up in a Moslim country and are forced to pray to Allah five times a day.
You wont find any who come here to comment, ever condemn an act of violence from any where in the world either. But they will start bleating about the injustices and violence of christianity, even if they have to drag out the dust covered crusades from a thousand years ago.
Why bother MS? There has been plenty of Christian based violence in the last years. Bush called Iraq a Crusade. The BlackWater exec Eric Prince thinks of himself as a crusader. There have been abortion doctor killings and other violence from the Right. Nearly all of these folks would call themselves "believers."
Religionist jihadists are the problem whether Christian or Muslim. Both are enemies of civilized society. Tolerate NEITHER.
For all you Progressive Liberal Muslim Lovers call major airline today and buy a one way ticket back to Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, or whereever your from. Buy you a camel and ride around like Mohammad killing, raping and destroying everything in sight. Yes thats the prophet mohammad way killing, destroying everything in sight.
For all you Progressive Liberal Muslim Lovers call major airline today and buy a one way ticket back to Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, or whereever your from.
Ah yes, the old love it or leave it - the staple for any repub rant. Apparently this country only belongs to gun toting hillbillies because these people keep telling me to leave.
How about all of you get the hell out of MY People's land, go back to wherever it is your ancestors came from, and take all your politics, religions, greed, pollution, non-Native cultures, languages, and the rest of your attitudes, issues, and problems with you? Either that or grow up and learn how to get along with one another.
The radicals are here. The genie is out of the bottle. No meeting is going to stop the growth and only until radicals are blowing themself up at the malls will people pull their heads out of their backsides and demand someone do something. At this point it is already to late.
Now PC, stick your head back up your azz and ignore the facts.
I would too just to see if it exists. And if so where? I eat news for breakfast and I haven't heard of christians going overseas, learning how to make bombs, or strAp on bombs then return by divine demand to kill non christian people because Jesus will give them a reward of some sort for KILLING.
As a Christian- the most radical thing that I have ever seen fellow Christian do is spread the word of Jesus Christ through helping the poor and impoverished, fellowship with friends and family and through church outreach programs. If they never accepted Jesus we have cut off no ones head, killed their family, blown up their buildings or rioted in the street. I think the hearings on Christianity would be very boring to say the least and quick since there is nothing to talk about.

Not in about 11 years, do you guys not remember too long ago when "white christian men were hanging and torturing people of color?
I guess the 9 Million people burned and tortured over the last 4 centuries for witchcraft and heresy isn't extreme Christianity at work either?
I agree. I think we should change the Bill of Rights. The idea should be "Freedom from Religion" not "Freedom of Religion". I think the common complaint here is religion is dangerous. Then, lets get rid of it.
That's sarcasm for those of you that are less intelligent than others.
This is just a group of meetings. There is nothing being done. They are just talking. RELAX!!!
Even if your statement is true, does that make muslim radicals reeking havoc in public forums acceptable? The present topic is about muslim radicals and I don't care how much you try to bash Christians, it still does not justify the killings by MUSLIMS in the name of religion!
So we should sleep at the wheel until a radical idiot kills a hundred thousand? This is prudent because the danger is real. If congress doesn't at least address this real threat, then when a hundred thousand does die at the hand of one of these radical haters of all other then their own can you imagine the backlash. Can you hear it? Why didn't Washington do something? Washington is the reason this happened! So let's spare the victims of terror later by keeping this clear and present danger on the radar now.
All extremists should be investigated. We currently are investigating the radical "Christian" groups like the Klan(which isn't the Christianity that I practice, again the extremist). Do you see the Christians protesting thaqt we as a whole are being picked on? no. Make no mistake, the muslims are out to dominate the world. If you don't believe this, read the koran. It specifically tells them to give the infidel a chance to convert and if they don't, it is the muslims duty to kill them. So much for a peaceful religion
There are four forms of government in the world. The only country that has not experienced all four is this country (the US). The only form of government this country has not experienced is Communism. We are headed straight for a collision course with form of government. For those who do not believe this, I have two words for you... Homeland Security.
More BS politcal theater from the GOP. No, jobs yet, but a good ration of BS. I truely hope the teabaggers and Kock bros are happy about what they've done to our country.
Yeah, the GOP has had 3 whole months to create these jobs. What they are doing is cleaning up the mess the Dems left them... Tell me specifically, what were the Dems doing last year that took up soo much time that they could not pass one appropriations bill.. with an overwhelming majority in both the Senate and House, as well as Pres Obama? Why specifically did they not pass one bill? Why wasn't it on MSNBC?
As far as the Koch brothers, what about George Soros or the SEIU or AFSME?
Mork,it's not their job to create jobs. it's their job to reduce wasting money on lazy people that don't want to work, so those of us who create jobs and do what we do better. of course you have no idea what it takes to create a job or else you wouldn't make a stupid comment like you did.
Last year they were passing legislation that caused my barely affordable health insurance to become un-affordable.
Insurance that I pay the entire tab for, So I had a choice I could either pay more for my health insurance and pay less into my retirement savings, I chose the retirement savings, I reduced my insurance coverage.
Last year they were passing legislation that caused my barely affordable health insurance to become un-affordable.
People seem completely outraged about "un-affordable" insurance but they don't raise a finger or wimper about fixing the previous "barely" affordable costs. Sure gives the whole debate a rather political overtone rather than a logical search for solutions. Just more AWM if you ask me
WASTE of time and money! The US is in economic peril. American people are in real trouble financially. How does this activity relate to the public good? These hearings never amount to anything but grandstanding and hot air. Why create more division in this country? This is the last thing we need.
these hearings won't necessarily create more division, unless there isn't full disclosure.
No, these hearings are not a waste of time. The more we know about their culture, the better the chance for a smooth assimilation into America. the more muslims feel trusted, the more they will contribute to our economic repair.
maybe we should investigate crippled old white people like we do at the airport. Israel does it right profile!!
Apples and tires!!
McGin--Excellent post. It was what I was going to say, but better expressed.
Its about damn time.
The title of the article should read, "Media stirs hornet's nest."
9/11 terrorist attacks:
it comes ouot that the government had a"idea"that it was going to happen, the country went nutz blaming Bush!
why didnt he stop it!!!!
this is exactly why!!
we are under attack by terrorist and look at how mad people are going thru security at the airport!
PS
i know obama isnt having the hearing personally, but he hasnt come out and totally bashed it either.
@ McGin
"You stop terrorism by understanding its source and addressing the root cause." I'm in exact agreement. But, how do you suppose they accomplish that without meetings of this nature?
This is the kind of reaction that creates distrust among many Americans about Islam. Instead of siding with us and supporting investigation and action against RADICAL Islam, we get protesting.
I can assure you of this, moderates may be protesting, but so are the extremists. You will not see extremists supporting a panel like this.
Until an American citizens rights have been stepped on by this panel... I fully support it.
Why can’t they just ADMIT that muslims were responsible for 9-11 instead of antagonizing? Non muslims don’t yell allah akbar!
Abolish all religion in the US. Problem solved.
Rep Peter King--
Support for the IRA
Muslims must blend with Western civ.
Muslims lend order, Western Civ lends freedom
The women are stunningly beautiful
Like any youth group in America they'll find away to develop a counter culture. Do you think for a moment that women born in the U.S. are going to give up their civil liberties in the name of a religion that's half way around the globe.
In time they'll go through a reformation just like the protestants did to the catholics. FYI, most of our founding fathers were protestants.
On another note, let Saudi Arabia be for the time being, if those people have an up rising then gas will really effect our economy in the worst way.
Seems some posting here need to watch this video, happening right here in the good-ole US of A, and then spend a few moments in reflection:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEPod-hxD7g
I think that's a lot of hyperbole when they say how ALL the Muslims are victimized.
sandtrich... Well gee, are you upset with Obama then? Please site your INCORRECT sources!
GOP's Peter King Offered Ireland Ambassadorship By Obama
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/16/gops-peter-king-offered-i_n_216141.html
A glimpse of America's future....results of an ultra-liberal England...
Mohammed is now the most popular name for baby boys ahead of Jack and Harry in England
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1324194/Mohammed-popular-baby-boys-ahead-Jack-Harry.html
The world is a terrible place it is all 'their fault.'
ban all religions....
It is a Known Fact that not All Muslims are terrorist, But It Is Also A Known Fact That Almost All Terrorist are Muslim.
ok, so then why did Obama offer him the ambassadorship to Ireland?
Why should we not find out why?
But than again if you read the Koran you pretty much will know WHY!!!!!!
JKH
PULEEZE!
.
@ wag-889018
Sura 9, Verse 5
"Fight and slay the unbelievers wherever ye find them, and lie in wait for them in every statagem of war. But if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them..."
Sura 9, verse 29
"Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of truth, even if they are of the 40 people of the Book, until they pay the jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."
Sura 5, verse 28
"Oh ye who believe!
Ritdog....this is SO true!!! Always have been paid with public dollars so can afford to be as radical as they please!!
Well said kg14051 !!!
Ternan
This is SO true!
Howdy,
You're over-generalizing about all religions. Just exactly how do you plan on effectively abolishing all religion in the U.S. anyway? Not even the Soviet Union was able to do that. It just goes underground when it becomes illegal, and there are too few outsiders that are willing to blow the whistle, because they can see when an activity isn't hurting anything.
warprofiteer,
Have to agree, particularly the Persian women.
Muslim moderates condemning radical Islam is not enough.
Words whisper, actions thunder.
The other 1% just needs a serious reality check!
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/muslim_doc_hits_us_imams_tHLv4HgySMyM6G195piURJ
Mariam Thank you
Religion isn't a bad thing, the people that use & twist religion for there own misguided views are the problem.
East Harlem.....this statement is in your link....
The root cause of radicalization is an inability of some Muslim youth to identify with Western society. They don't view it as Islamic or righteous."

They came here knowing this is a free Western society.
If our culture is offensive, go back where yours is embraced......
Why must you insist and practice your Shariah law in America?
I was born in America Wheatfield!
You might want to ask Imam Rauf…so is he the 1% that needs a serious reality check? Were you against the ground zero mosque?
"It also would not be a violation of church-state separation to have a subsidiary entity within the judiciary that employs religious jurists from diverse religious backgrounds to comment on the compliance of certain decisions with their religious views and to provide guidance to their religious communities on how kosher or Shariah compliant these decisions are. '
- Feisal Abdul Rauf
Rauf concluded in the Washington Post, shortly after President Obama's June 2009 Cairo speech, that he'd challenged Muslims to "Live up to the tenets of our religion, embrace Shariah law as conceived by the Prophet, and see what happens."
http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/panelists/feisal_abdul_rauf/2009/06/obamas_challenge_to_the_muslim_world.html
"in more [ways than one] ... through a kingdom or a democracy, [so long as the] fundamentals of Shariah [exist, with standards of Muslim scholars] required to
govern. ...to organize ... relationships between government ... and the governed." 17
In March 2010, also in Arabic, Rauf stridently denounced interfaith discussions. "I don't believe in interfaith dialogue," he said in an article that highlighted his statement in its headline. 18

“All that is necessary for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing” – (attributed to) Edmund Burke
Wheatfield2
Yea I remember it.......not sure why your pointing it out to me but I do recall reading it. Religion has to be looked into not just Islam period.
First they came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Muslims,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Muslim.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
a very (overly) dramatic statement sir, but your argument is predicated on the idea that our government is "out to get us", which is rather obtuse.
A democratic government against its people is against itself. No matter how well it grabs headlines, our elected officials are not hell bent on enslaving the american populace.
Kamp...
Funny you should mention 3 groups that are bent on the destruction of the American System. Multiculturalism doesn't work. Europe has admitted it. Assimilate or leave.
Hey, Kamp....
Kamp...
You miss the point of your own statements...
I am not!
Youkilis,
You are funny!
Us too.
Gee Kamp, then why would Obama offer him the Ambassadorship to Ireland?

I doubt it has much to do with air or water.
I think if you are really serious about looking at what causes radicalization then you should give a serious look at misguided aspects of US Foreign Policy that serve to create a sense of injustice and provides oxygen for those who seek to exploit a sense of grievance.
Such as why 490 members of Congress felt it necessary to urge President Obama to Veto the latest Security Council statement against Israeli's illegal settlements.
From an outsiders perspective, Islamic Radicalization is largely a by product of US Middle East Policy.
I really like this! Thanks
Fedupwithfed said:
"Gee Kamp, then why would Obama offer him the Ambassadorship to Ireland?"
Because maybe the Irish see his support for the IRA as a good thing, since a large portion of the Republic of Ireland supported the IRA's aims even if they disagreed with the methods.
I've seen this posted before KAMP.
Kampung,
And torrorism was reduced by 99.9% and people throughout the world could go to a market with their children and go about their daily lives without fear of being blown to pieces.
What religion preaches intolerance and world domination, and advocates murder and mutilation? I think we have a bingo!
Signed, a PEACEFUL, AND HAPPY AMERICAN MUSLIM!
He is NOT my "master" nor is he my "captor". you need help!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=favzluXtznM
Sharia law is already being practiced by some Muslims here in the US, and Europe is already shocked by what Muslims have done to their culture; they are a real threat to our society and principles.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhoDK2xfXsw
No one has to demonize islam, muslims and the quran do a mighty fine job of that already.
Weren't Republicans going to focus on getting Americans back to work? I don't remember "Islamic radicalization" in the U.S. being a campaign issue in the last elections.
blah blah blah. You are an ideeeeOT.
(no offense)
If there where hearings against Catholics or some other Christian group, the left would be on here cheering and defending it.
Why arent there?
Peter King's background is not without shame:
Long before he became an outspoken voice in Congress about the threat from terrorism, he was a fervent supporter of a terrorist group, the Irish Republican Army.
If the terrorist is white, it's alright. If they're Christian it's all right. King also was a friend of Gadafi.
Then why would Obama offer him the Ambassadorship to Ireland?
GOP's Peter King Offered Ireland Ambassadorship By Obama
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/16/gops-peter-king-offered-i_n_216141.html
Wow kind of like revisiting Nazi Germany that used the Jews as a rally point, liberals use Republicans for the same purpose.
you fell for that ? !!
Incredible that anyone would compare what these radical Muslim extremist are doing to the global community to anything or anybody!
Global warming is on the way, you can believe that.
What religion preaches intolerance and world domination, and advocates murder and mutilation? I think we have a bingo!
Christianity does.
ANY radical form of religion is anathema to civilisation. It's time to clean house of all of them.
I agree. Let's start with the Catholics (remember all those pedophile priests?) and then move on to Southern Baptists (I know it's been a few years, but they haven't paid an appropriate price for all those lynchings).
When was the last time one of those lynchings occured? Let's address the present danger and there is a present danger.
Imagine no religion, what a wonderful place.
So really, your comment was useless.
Massive murder, robbery, plundering, all in the name of god.
chris: ''Berney, you must be quite an idiot'' agreed.
Hey Gonzo.....
Wake up!! "Imagine no religion".... My friend, that IS a religion!!
The Supreme Court has established that a 'religion' could possibly be your bowling team....
Now, get out there and bowl, and get those tax deductions!! Hurry!
Thats not what he said. The problem is that these "people of god" exploit these children - who are only there in order to find god. I put them on the same level as suicide bombing terrorists.
When? After they got caught? LOL! They let this go on for nigh half a century and speak out only after it all comes to fruition.
Let's not pretend like Catholic priests invented pedophilia though.
It's become just another in a long list of stereotypes. It's how humans file away people into simple, easy to manage groups.
Yeah, damn religions. Thank goodness we've had Stalin and Mao and Hitler to try to make things right. Not.
ALL human institutions have brought misery to humans, not just religious ones.
Humans have brought misery to humans, not the institutions. Institutions simply fall under the control of humans.
Everything, including communism, looks great on paper til you add humans into it.
@PlutoIsAPlanet-3101621
Barney is right. Pedophilia is worse IMO than terrorism.
Thank you dclady!
Barney and the Great Gonzo:
So you contend that only Catholics are pedophils?
Once again, good point. Stop terrorist activities by any person or group! The present topic of discussion is muslim terrorism.
Yep now those were smoke screens
I'm still waiting for Congress to hold hearings on the most significant threat of terrorism within the US -- the threat posed by extremist Christian militias.
Saying something doesn't make it true. Back up your assertion, or it really is merely "Barney's Opinion."
Yeah, worry about the spider in the corner of your basement when a bear is knocking down your door. Liberals are brain dead.
Steve,
Bingo! Hit the nail on the head. Liberals are BD
They HAVE had a hearing on radical christian militias though, regular christians were not up in arms about it because they did not care for them either. Just because you are ignorant does not mean it did not happen.
Typical of a Liberal to call others (not guilty) of the crimes they themselves commit.
Mike:
What religion preaches intolerance and world domination, and advocates murder and mutilation? I think we have a bingo!
It must be full disclosure because if it's felt anything's been held back, there will indeed be a further erosion of trust.
mike: If it is true that only 10% of all muslims are radical extremists that still constitutes 150,000,000 folks - nothing to sneeze at.
Typical of a Liberal to call others (not guilty) of the crimes they themselves commit.
Better to be a Newt Gingrich, Larry Craig, Rush Limbaugh, Ted Haggard, Sarah Palin type of hypocrite right?
I am so scaired that our country is being taken away from us by Obama and his muslim plotters. I hope these hearings get to the bottom of why our country is going in the dangerous directions that we do not want.
The GOP wants you scared.
LOL. Sacasm, right?
"I'm scaired two" - but for another reason
Me, too. The grammatical and spelling errors in these posts are enough to make me scream.
yep and liberals want you to remain in a drug enduced stupor watching the world through rose tinted glasses as they shove their agenda down your throat - you know that agenda that was overwhelmingly rejected by the LEGAL United States citizens in elections conducted in November 2010.
yes, it's time to do some checking, I'll feel better.
The muzzes should leave.
(no offense)
And how is that NOT offensive? What about those who are native-born US citizens? As for those who are naturalized citizens, I'm willing to bet that having had to earn their citizenship they know more about this country and the US Constitution than you do.
Christianity isn't native here and has been used for 518 years to terrorize, exploit, subjugate, and exterminate the Native peoples. How about we ship all Christians out too?
What religion preaches intolerance and world domination, and advocates murder and mutilation? I think we have a bingo!
Wake up, you are starting to sound like a broken record man.
Switch roles...
What if a bunch of young adult while males started @!$%# in Saudi Arabia or something? you dont think local govt would kinda sorta maybe look into it a bit? I think so..
What if a bunch of white.....
What religion preaches intolerance and world domination, and advocates murder and mutilation? I think we have a bingo!
Speaking of idiots, Dean...
There is no group more un-American than the far right.
that could quite possibly be the most idiotic statement I have ever read.
a pathetic juvenile statement.
Or the far left. Study your history.
Do you think our Government should not protect you from them?
another religious feature: how about farts in the mosque..when bending over so much and someone's nose in back of your bum?????
I think that both of you should take classes on Christianity and Islam so you know what is and isn't taught as part of either faith. Personally I never take anything on what someone else says it is because way too many people run their mouths on full throttle without any actual knowledge whatsoever to back it up.
Hey, the truth hurts...and "mainstream" Muslims still don't want to hear it. Props to King to bringing this to light.
Exactly. What is wrong with having an educated meeting? This is still the United States, right?
ashok, it is an indian name right?
First you totally got the name wrong and second, that is definitely not the way to win people over to your Islamic side.
(or woman!!)
1) There is no anti-Moslem hysteria in the US.
Learn to spell!
I would think they are upset because the hearings would point out the true hidden dangers of this religion and all it stands for. You are correct in all your statements. There is no more violence, probably even less than is committed against Jews, Christians, or any other religion for that matter.
Prius:
My spelling was precise and correct.
priusguy52, I gather from your name you have a Prius, your a guy and I am guessing your 52 years old.
@William-781512
You can't make up a word (prejudism) and expect people to take you seriously. Just saying!
from about.com
Alternate Spellings: Moslem -- but "Muslim" is preferred and renders a pronunciation more faithful to the Arabic word.
Correction did not spell it incorrectly
William-781512 and all those who condemn speaking out against radical Islam:
In #15 Correction said:
5) One would think Moslems would be happy to have hearings that would provide a platform to demonstrate their beliefs, practices and teachings, thus showing the world the truth of who they are.
William, You actually used the incorrect spelling yourself by claiming that Correction had used the word "Moslim" and you responded that:
Moslum and Muslim are both correct spellings:
http://hnn.us/articles/524.html

Most Muslims I work with >30 do not condemn radical Islam. They immediately defend any Muslim at all cost. Strange, disturbing and dangerous.
And typical.
I remeber in the 60's guys like you, only back the the used the word @!$%# instead of muslim.
Garion, you are ignorant. WHy dont you buy a plane ticket back to where you are from and shut the h3ll up
JimD, learn to spell and don't repeat words. Otherwise you show that you are a
1D10T!
Ah yes, the old love it or leave it - the staple for any repub rant. Apparently this country only belongs to gun toting hillbillies because these people keep telling me to leave.
wow, you are a classic example of a typical 'city folk" barking moon bat liberal .
but i gotta hand it to you , you are amusing
As a Christian minister, I would like to see a parallel article on radical Christianity and how it affects our culture.
I would too just to see if it exists. And if so where? I eat news for breakfast and I haven't heard of christians going overseas, learning how to make bombs, or strAp on bombs then return by divine demand to kill non christian people because Jesus will give them a reward of some sort for KILLING.
Rev, have you heard of a suicide Christian bomber blowing up a public square lately?
As a Christian- the most radical thing that I have ever seen fellow Christian do is spread the word of Jesus Christ through helping the poor and impoverished, fellowship with friends and family and through church outreach programs. If they never accepted Jesus we have cut off no ones head, killed their family, blown up their buildings or rioted in the street. I think the hearings on Christianity would be very boring to say the least and quick since there is nothing to talk about.
Scott Roeder
Not in about 11 years, do you guys not remember too long ago when "white christian men were hanging and torturing people of color?
I guess the 9 Million people burned and tortured over the last 4 centuries for witchcraft and heresy isn't extreme Christianity at work either?
Get your facts straight!
RELAX!!!
Rev, have you heard of a suicide Christian bomber blowing up a public square lately?
They prefer to bomb abortion clinics or go on shooting rampages instead; in the name of Jesus of course.
Even if your statement is true, does that make muslim radicals reeking havoc in public forums acceptable? The present topic is about muslim radicals and I don't care how much you try to bash Christians, it still does not justify the killings by MUSLIMS in the name of religion!
I'm an atheist and frankly sick of ALL religionist jihadists.
As far as the Koch brothers, what about George Soros or the SEIU or AFSME?
jcook140:
Last year, they were helping me get some affordable health insurance. Next.
Actually they were forcing you to buy insurance (under penalty of law) from a private company. The insurance companies are grateful.
Mork,it's not their job to create jobs. it's their job to reduce wasting money on lazy people that don't want to work, so those of us who create jobs and do what we do better. of course you have no idea what it takes to create a job or else you wouldn't make a stupid comment like you did.
Mark1949
Last year they were passing legislation that caused my barely affordable health insurance to become un-affordable.
Insurance that I pay the entire tab for, So I had a choice I could either pay more for my health insurance and pay less into my retirement savings, I chose the retirement savings, I reduced my insurance coverage.
People seem completely outraged about "un-affordable" insurance but they don't raise a finger or wimper about fixing the previous "barely" affordable costs. Sure gives the whole debate a rather political overtone rather than a logical search for solutions. Just more AWM if you ask me
Ok I am asking you...what is AWM?
Being barely affordable is not great but it sure beats un-affordable.
If it wasn't their job to create jobs, why run on that platform? Because they are liars perhaps?
NO Hearings
WASTE of time and money! The US is in economic peril. American people are in real trouble financially. How does this activity relate to the public good? These hearings never amount to anything but grandstanding and hot air. Why create more division in this country? This is the last thing we need.
these hearings won't necessarily create more division, unless there isn't full disclosure.
No, these hearings are not a waste of time. The more we know about their culture, the better the chance for a smooth assimilation into America. the more muslims feel trusted, the more they will contribute to our economic repair.
