The North is not pleased that the Middle East has taken center stage. Here we are! Over here! Remember us! You know the crazy lunatics that like to murder without repercussion. We're back!
Pyongyang has called the drills a preparation to invade North Korea, though South Korean and U.S. officials have repeatedly said the maneuvers are purely defensive and that they have no intention of attacking.
BULL @!$%#
they are giving the north the poker face and it will not work!
Ross-517902 The North is not pleased that the Middle East has taken center stage. Here we are! Over here! Remember us! You know the crazy lunatics that like to murder without repercussion. We're back!
You mean to tell me The Republicans are in North Korea?
Man oh Man! Start a campaign of dropping food, clothing (shirts with freedom written on them) and water. When the North Comes in and takes the Supplies away!
Hello?
I think what the middle east and our past has proven is you can't be given freedom you have to want it.
Yeah. North Korea's got some serious Napoleon complex goin' on. They're so silly. And, honestly, amusing. They're like a gnat threatening to take down an elephant, but they just don't understand their own smallness. Kinda tragic, if you think about it, but still funny.
When North Korea tried to run their own military drills to mirror those in South Korea, a number of their air crews crashed or flew their aircraft into the ground because the North Korean pilots get very scant opportunity to fly their aircraft. The North Korean pilots are totally unprepared and can be swept from the skies of Korea by superior pilots and superior aircraft of the the joint US/South Korean air forces. After the North Korean air forces are swept from the sky, then the North Korean ground forces are easy pickings for ground-attack aircraft. They will be strafed and bombed until they are also wiped out, without ever reaching the DMZ. They will goose-step their way into hell.
Kim Jong Il and his elite friends will take refuge in underground tunnels and wait as they hear the explosions of their ground forces being reduced to tangled bloody corpses. Then where will he go? His special armored train will be destroyed and he'll have no way to escape to China. So, he'll just be stuck under ground like the last days of Hitler.
Ever since last November I've found their threats to be quite commical. Like the article said, the drills are annual and they probably make threats every year. The only reason the media is covering it is because of the artillery shelling of Yeonpyong island last November.
North Korea won't do anything...they never do. Deep down Kim knows a war would end his regime. He's not quite ready to give up power. Now I wouldn't be surprised if he learned he was going to die and decided to go completely crazy. Hoping it doesn't happen, but wouldn't be surprised.
They are banging on a bit with the country that cried, 'we attack you.' If the Ils are trying for credibility for the new beloved leader, they really are going about it bass ackward.
Nightline Jan 14th 2002 outlines what war with N Korea would look like. Military experts ran a "simulation" of what that war would be like and it was NOT pretty. Here is the link if you don't care to click on it then go to Nightlines home page and look up by date. This episode will open your eyes.
Lil' kim had to be such a joy to raise; anytime anyone else in the home got the slightest bit of attention or notice, I'm certain he did this all the time..... 'you look at me now! Me! Me! Hey, you not notice me do this? ...'
That, the Schnauzer Syndrome, and his yearly bits about merciless firebombs and dragons and whatever when we and the South do our regular drills is getting old.... I wonder if even he can keep a straight face anymore.
The only problem is, he has been sick for some time and none know just how bad off he is. Couple that with an ego that's like Charlie Sheen's and Paris Hilton's together on an elephant's dosage of steriods?
He may, sometime, actually attempt to follow through with his threats and even if embarassingly botched will still cost too many lives.
One more thing, regarding the leaflets; isn't spazzing about them being dropped over the border akin to saying, 'Hey, you stop that now... if people see how life could be they won't lousy life I give them'. Any confidence in his regime and ruling being the better of the choices, he'd not feel threatened; drop leaflets in the South about how the North lives and propaganda about freedom... I'm sure the South Korean government will get all worried.
You can go with this, or you can get with that (those hamsters are cool, but have given me a weird dream or two....).
Didn't the article say North Korea does this EVERY TIME the South and the US have exercises? I would say much ado about nothing, but there is always the chance the North "would stupidly" follow thru with their threats. In the end, everyone would lose, but the North would lose the most.
Ross.... You're exactly right. The North wants another "payment" to be a good boy. They feel like the worlds attention is on more pressing issues in the Middle East and that this news is stealing their thunder.
It wouldn't surprise me more if N.K. threatened to nuke the Libyan rebels for getting all of their press.
Someone above said they are worried that this type of rebellion might take place in North Korea. It won't. For one reason, N.K. keeps tight control on what their "subjects" receive in the way of "news". Secondly the people that live their know that China is right next door, and the Red Chinese government would not allow a democracy being established next door to them without at least a big effort to crush it.
Perhaps North Koreans should keep careful attention to events in Egypt, and the response to these threats from the north, should be that the south develops software to break any intended Internet blocks so their neighbors to the north can see what's transpiring in the Middle East. What would be needed though, is states to put their own minds to a lil old fashioned hacking, and dispensing of tools to get around the blocks.... AKA what some in the US were proposing for Iran.
Let Kim Jong be even more nervious, if his people see what other demographic groups have chosen to do with their own autocratic leaders :p Forget his paranoia wrt invasion; the people could well wonder "why not us", if they see what's going on the world over.
Stesilaus..Are you North Korean?? Communist Chinese?? Communist?? You really think that Korea should be reunited under the Kims?? And why should they?? You are a tool if you think that....
And Scott, what do you mean?? Are you saying that the US and SK are doing this on purpose to goad NK into attacking??
Hurray! :-)) I knew Kim wouldn't let us down. The middle east has been getting entirely too much attention and Little Kimmy is making his play. I wonder if the people of the DPNK have heard about all the up-risings taking place?
Coming out of WW 2, the US Military was battle hardened, and readily able to go toe to toe with any foe (hey! That rhymes!) And North Korea fought us to a draw. Many of our soldiers died of dysentery and exposure. Now we are coming out of Iraq, and still involved in Afghanistan. Iran is also saber rattling and their ally, Russia, is prone to do just about anything, and is unreliable when it comes to the things that make for peace. I'm not convinced the US has the desire to engage North Korea in another war. And for what? Elimination of a faulty system of government? Elmination of a hazard to world peace? North Korea will be brought to heel, but it won't be by war with the US.
They may look like a gnat trying to take down an elephant, but I remember something called the Korean conflict that ended in a truce, not a victory. We had just gotten out of WWII and brought Germany and Japan to their knees and could not beat Korea. Just because you feel safe behind your computer screen, don't under estimate the Korean's. Their country was here long before America became populated by intruders from other countries. We thought we would kick Vietnam's butt into submission too and look what happened, we were sent packing from both countries. Asians seem to have a deeper resolve to see things through to the end than we do these days. Sadly, war doesn't seem to be as much about a clear victory as it does a way to keep the economy going at the cost of our best and brightest young men and women in our military.
keep politics out of it and we'll kick butt, vietnam was a jke.when your hands are tied, not much you can do.i know i was there,a shame all those good men dead because of pencil pushers in the states
Problem is, those pencil pushers are still with us, the differance now and then? The protesters shouted down the people in office (protesters also know as hippies, peaceniks and flower children). Now those same protestors are the politicians. How far do you think they are willing to go today? I was not a protestor just a high school dropout who enlisted during the draft.
Levi777.... BJK has it right. I have an uncle there that was awarded the silver star. He said that we were making such good progress that there was talk about being sent home by Christmas.
Then out of nowhere a million Chinese, that our intelligence people knew nothing about, appeared from behind the mountains and launched a full scale attack on the U.S. troops. They sent human waves against us. He said he his battalion was about to be surrounded and we were firing the guns so fast that the barrels were over heating and locking the guns up. In places the Chinese troops bodies were sacked up so high that the other troops had to climb over them to attack. He grabbed a bag of hand grenades and started running through the last opening in the Chinese lines. Several troops followed him through the gap as he threw grenades in both directions. He said he got the star for bravery, but it was just survival.
From there he said that we were driven back until we were finally able to establish a defensive position that could be held. MacArthur wanted to launch a full scale back at the Chinese, but because of the cold war development in Europe with the Soviets, Truman played it conservative and ordered MacArthur out because he refused to stand down on the issue.
The protesters you mentioned actually were very effeciently ignored by the administration. They were beaten and jailed when things seemed to start going their way. They were, however, able to set the stage and show how peaceful protests should be conducted. The protesters that finally broke the administration were not the unwashed draft dodgers and flower children. Want to guess who made the protest movement successful? It was when the grandmothers hit the streets. I thought it was hilarious, watching the cops trying to figure out how they could rough up the little old women while the cameras were rolling.
Yes, I know the Chinese came to the aid of the North Koreans. And if we do not think that they will do so again, we are most unwise. And then what? Chinese internment camps in Arizona? They own half of California!
Every exercise seems like an invasion to Kim . Ok , the way to stop this thought process is to make a peace treaty with S. Korea or at least try doing this . I don't know of any act of trying to make a peace from Kim ? This doesn't mean I am correct . It means I don't know of any acts of peace coming from Kim .
It's because Satan has fooled you all! Bwaa haa ha ha ha haaaaa!
No, seriously, think about all of the hate mongering and hypocrisy that runs rampant in Christian religion. When was the last time you saw a Christian post something on newsvine about Muslims that didn't include some untruthful remark or suggestion about wiping them all out? Or some sort of attack on atheists? I can count on one hand the number of times I have had disagreements with Christians which did not quickly devolve into angry remarks and insults aimed at me. Not very Christ-like at all. I think you've all been deceived.
Gandhi, who once even considered adopting the merits of Christianity, said, "I like your Christ, but I don't like your Christians." His words should be heeded by all of us professing to follow Christ.
But, just because some Christians are annoying, pushy, and over-zealous -- and don't walk the talk -- does not mean that there are not thousands of good Christians out there that are good examples of Christ-like behavior.
The nasty folks just squeak louder and make it difficult for the rest of us.
Not to put a buzzkill on your new blog, but you do realize that there have been saying that the "end times are here" for millennia. Mostly because the biblical prophecies have described things that always happen anyway, like wars and famine.
Take this line of discussion to Religious Doomsday Forum. This forum is about Korea and doesn't need fatalistic self-doubt and self-flagelation. Nor does this forum need fear mongering of the type preached by David Koresh, Jim Jones and other religious nuts who trigger mass suicides among fearful people.
Christian hypocrisy is as old as ancient Jerusalem. Jesus had to deal with the radical religious conservatives of His day.
As a gentle reminder to all followers of Jesus Christ, worldwide, on this vine:
We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:20 NKJV)
Jesus corrected the Pharisees of His day but was quick to defend the woman at the well. We are not assigned the task of pointing out sin and forcing unbelievers to repent--that's the Holy Spirit's job. We're here to live the intentional life before them and respond to others as Jesus did with compassion, gently showing them the right road to salvation by our own example.
You can live your life today knowing that others are watching--do your best to show them what it means to live intentionally for Christ..

Christian hypocrisy is as old as ancient Jerusalem
CORRECTION: Religious hypocrisy is as old as ancient Jerusalem, as techincally, people did not call themselves Christians till after Jesus rose from the dead. After Jesus left us on earth, He left His Holy Spirit to the men and women who had ministered with Him on earth. The first Christians were Jews and called their new faith in Jesus, "The Way." Jesus told His new Church," if you love me, you will obey me," and to go and spread the Gospel of salvation and mercy through Jesus Christ to all the nations.
I would discover Jesus on my own, through His Word, the Bible. I would find a good Bible teacher, like John MacArthur, and you can get his sermons online for free, just google, and I would spend time with Jesus, just being quiet and still. He will never, ever, ignore a heart that is looking for the Truth.
I would like to share this wise advice for you on your journey to find your faith:
If you look at yourself you get disgusted
If you look at others you get disappointed
If you look at Jesus, you will be delighted.
We are not perfect, no man or woman is. I would say that you need to address the "angry self-righteous" christians as Jesus did, with direct confrontation, and they may even curse at you. But in time, as His Holy Spirit directs you, as if He is walking beside you,(and He is, because He is alive,) you will sense who it is who is genuine for Jesus, but may stumble like the rest of us sinners. So, you pick them up with love, forgiveness and mercy. We all mess up, but in love, we encourage each other to keep running the race.
And to my atheist friends, I would suggest the writings from CS Lewis, especially, Mere Christianity. CS Lewis was a staunch atheist, until he met Jesus.
All of this information, free, and online, you can google CS Lewis.
@ Mike S. if Ghandi is rotting in Hell, then too, is Mother Teresa. And if that is the case, we all need to just bend over, Kiss our own A$$es good bye, and until the actual end day, Party like it's 1999..... I base this statement on the 10 Commandments, meaning, you do not have to be a Christian or even believe in God, but those 10 Commandments are a pretty good way to lead your life...In fact, Mother Teresa may be the actaul Last Ever Saint that this world may ever know.
I am a christian but have found it against what I am following to put others down or to try to force them to follow my ways. But with this being stated neither do I have to sit here and listen to disrespect because of my belief. I will give you the respect of having no belief and all that I ask is that you do the same.
I know some Christians can be over zealous and given the same power might respond in the same way that we see the radical Muslims reacting, but just because .1% of a group acts a certain way does not mean that everyone is that way. I have many atheist friends and have had respectful discussions about their lack of faith and me being a man of faith (and to you Christians that are out there attacking everyone that does not agree with you, you need to read the bible because we are taught to love, not to hate. We are taught to be long suffering, not forceful and intolerant).
My younger sister is a athiest and I will tell you the same thing I tell her. You have a right to your belief or lack thereof, and I will respect that and would never try to force you to change your belief system, and all that I ask is that you act the same way too.
As for your statement:
The fundament of Christianity and all religion is denial of reality and the responsibility that goes with reality.
What are you talking about? The true goal of Christianity is to love others and to teach a message of hope. As for the other faiths, I have studied them and most of them have similar teaching although a few are of a violent bend. But to make statements like this you are actually showing the same ignorance you are claiming these people have. My reality is in front of my eyes, I see the same things you do, the only difference is that I live with a hope and know the grace of salvation. You do not and this is your right, but quit forcing your faith on others (and yes atheism is a faith, it is a faith in a lack of faith, at least this is how our supreme court defined atheism.
The South would beat the North back 10-15 years. I hope the North fires any kind of attack. Then you would see another country get there arse handed to them!
Nukes - No -- but if they do start something again like the recent murders, just take out some of their military equipment with strategic strikes.. Radar facilities, missile launchers, and maybe a cruise non-nuke into Kim's palace.
A few UAV's armed with some ordinace could be fun for such a mission.
Terry G-2285568: Nuke Hell! We might blow our own ass off. Send Kim a case of good scotch wiskey and a carousing, "devil may care", good looking whore. He'll settle down for at least another month.
The plain truth is that we have not learned yet how to care for each other. For all the preaching of peace, we have not peace.
There will be no war with N. Korea without involving the Chinese. If it comes to war, expect nukes since three our of four principles have them. Nobody will "win" anything. Our species has a death wish.
Anyone who says....... "We'll kick the bejesus out of em'!" or "Nuke em'!" has never seen the face of war and should keep their opinions out of things involving war. When you have seen bodies so blown apart that the only thing recognizable is a ring on a finger, or so badly burned that the limbs fall off like cooked meat, THEN you have the right to voice an opinion.
War is always a huge loss for the innocent and those thrown into it by their leaders. When the smoke clears that fat-cats that have ran and hidden during the trouble come out and make fortunes off of the carnage like so many vultures, and it's business as usual again.
Yeah, it's rather disconcerting to see how many Americans are eager to see our civilian and military leaders in shackles in front of a Crimes Against Humanity tribunal...
Instead of invading Iraq we should have taken out "Kim" and his insane followers who have threatened South Korea, and have already waged war by bombing a border town, and sinking a naval vessle- killing, and wounding South Koreans.
It's only a matter of time when this lunatic starts lobbing more artillary shells. or firing upon other border communities. A total invasion is called for, and would put to rest the ongoing threats, and remove another brutal dictator from the planet. Â Â Â Â
The North always pulls something when attention is being distracted from them. Kim can't stand not being the center of attention. He is like a two year old. I wish someone would just tell him "Make my day" and fire on him!!
@RummyTub, what's wrong with this picture is, is that the leaflets didn't have mini bombs that explode upon opening.... was that wrong of me to type? hahahaha!!!
I think it is high time to put an end to this stupid sabre rattling and just see how far the North is prepared to go. South Korea is very prosperous and could easily pull the North out of the economic dumps in a matter of years (kind of like how West Germany pulled East Germany after the wall fell). China needs to stop protecting this lunatic since stability is in everyone's interest. The North would probably fall faster than Iraq. The US needs to set up a ton of Patriot missles near the border and on naval ships. If the world allows the insane North Korean regime to continue, they will be able to develope more nukes which they will gladly sell to our enemies. These madmen need to be stopped NOW!!!
Brian, those million men have never tasted a burst of fire from an A10 Warthog, or the path to hell paved by cluster bombs or a fusilade of MLRS and cruise missiles. Apache helicopters will tear their ranks apart and make them cry for their mothers.
I agree Joe, I would have to say the North would present a target rich enviroment. Although Seoul would have to be evacuated asap. Im sure the north could lauch enough artillery and missles against it to do heavy damage. But buildings can be rebuilt. Overall we know how this conflict would end - the only wildcard is China.
Yes they are desined to knock out missles. However the North has so much firepower targeted at Seoul - that city would be lost. I only hope it would be evacuated long before that barrage began. Once we eliminated their air force, the carlet bombing would begin. Incredible amounts of human life - much of it from the north - would be lost. I am sure the South would provide all the foot soldiers in this bloodbath. We would provide the aircover. As far as the N. Korean Sams go. They would have to resist not using them while our bombers ect... pounded them. If they wanted to take out A10s if they even know what an A10 is. We can handle their SAMs.
The US needs to set up a ton of Patriot missles near the border and on naval ships.
You have no idea what you are talking about. I live 120 miles from Pyongyang, the capital of the DPRK just up the coast from Dalian, China. China has more underground nuclear bases in that area than probably any place in the US. China fiercely protects that part of the country as it has a long extensive history of being taken over by other countries. The DPRK is fully aware of this and I know South Korea is aware of the same. China will not allow any form of nukes between south and north Korea. The US and South Korea continue to play war games in disputed territory as there has been no agreement of the DMZ line. We need to move our war games elsewhere. How would you like China planting war ships 50 miles off the coast of the US and engage in war games? I think not!!!! In all actuality, since South Korea and the DPRK never signed a treaty, they are still technically at war!!!
I have lived in South Korea for most of the last 3 years, and have many good and honest S. Korean friends. (Many professors, and business people, and some military students, including officers.) The general consensus I am getting is that:
1) While we thank all you old and new "wardogs" for your honorable service, -you need to SLOW DOWN before you talk about evacuating Seoul That act alone could case many accidental deaths and much direct and indirect harm to the South Korean people. Seoul has nearly as many people as New York City. And ...don't forget ...those are Korean people ...and it's their country and capital at risk, -not ours. They may not feel the CERTAIN risks of evacuation and war outweigh the risks to the rest of the world as regards any POSSIBLE nuclear terrorism. (And see #4 below)
2) While the South Koreans consider America to be a loyal ally and friend (and largely just "love Americans to death" , -I get at least 3 meal offers a week, -many from first time Korean 'friends'), -they always want to remind us that IT IS THEIR COUNTRY, ...AND THEIR DECISION TO MAKE ULTIMATELY ...on how far to go militarily. (And remember that they have stood beside "US" in every war since the 1950's ...VERY loyally ...so I don't think that's "too much" for us to hear from them.) They also have conscription and a standing army of about 350,000 ...and they don't expect Americans to do their front line fighting for them ...but do appreciate the technical, moral and air advanced support, -plus the presence of a nuclear air craft carrier (and nukes) ...which they don't have obviously. They often have more current "intel" on their troublesome neighbors than we do, -and understand them better culturally.
3) While most South Koreans talk about wanting to see "reunification" someday, -most are leery of trying anything abruptly or soon. Remember that they haven't even had that great an economy (or that democratic a government) for that long (about one generation; -if you don't believe this, search: Gwangju Uprising + 1980), -and most are not in a hurry to risk what they worked so hard to attain in the last 30-60 years, -either from all-out war ...or from getting 10 million 'poor cousins' coming south all in a few weeks time. (Whetherfrom war or a sudden regieme toppling). They would rather see gradual change over time...then possibly reunification.
4) South Korea has already demonstrated their willingness to assist the U.S. in interdicting any suspected carriers of weapons of mass destruction (or longer range missiles) with their navy as needed. Chinais likely (but not absolutely certain) to stop any transport of nuclear weapons across their border, due to the risks involved for them (including sanctions that could occur if they facilitated nuclear terrorism).
*FYI: China is a 'player' in the world game economically now, and stands to surpass the U.S. economy by 2050 anyway. They don't need to risk abetting nuclear terrorism (or getting some type of radioactive wasteland within or right on their border, - post retaliation or "nuclear accidents".) If they do anything, it would probably be more likely that they would provoke N.K. to do some more "shelling" so China can appear favorably on the world stage as the restraining "savior" for the U.S. and the rest of the world. In a"worst case" ...they might deviously provoke N.K. to set off a nuke in disputed territorial waters ...so China could then invade N.K. to "seize the weapons of mass destruction" like we purportedly did in Iraq, staying for 10+ years ...and then negotiating maximum economic concessions from S.K. to support eventual "reunification".
Better to let them "rattle the sabre" ...until the day comes when either the regime improves ...or North Korea's own people turn into "Egyptians" (no time soon)! There are worse things than dealing with one more source ofnuclear proliferation (don't forget those former USSR 'suitcase' nukes and Iran coming up). Such as all-out war in Korea again, GOD FORBID !
Thanks so much for giving us an inside view of this situation. I learned more from your post than most I have read in the past.
My parents met during the Korean war in the 50's while both were in the Air Force. I think they would agree that to encourage another conflict at this time would be unwise. Let Kim strut and boast, while we remain silent, alert, and ready.
Steve S-828431, why do you persist with the billion man army from China? China does not have a billion people that are able to or would fight in any war except to defend China. Not North Korea especially.
Thank you, Deepsea, for reminding the warmongers in the US that it's NOT our decision. My son currently lives in South Korea, and tells me that his Korean friends don't take North Korea's threats anywhere near as seriously as the US media does. It seems that any time the North wants to distract the world from its internal problems (they are currently having serious economic issues), they start up with the trash talk again. It's high time the US quits trying to police the rest of the world and starts to work seriously on the problems in our own country.
If China was our military ally and execises were conducted off California, it would be Mexico that would protest. We are off the coast of OUR ally which necessesarily puts us of the coast of N. Korea.
PS Don't I recall reading about Chinese ships off the coast some months or year back?
Why is this article even posted ??? The North and South have been spitting at each other for years...even before we joined in a war that was never really declared. Why does MSNBC continue to blow-up these spats as though they were serious articles of interest ???? I will be changing my home page to another news agency tonight....only because MSNBC is no longer reporting.....it is head-lining.....
One last item....I have been with this homepage for a couple of years.....never have I seen such childish responses that berates previous commenters with name calling, racism, slander and religious bashing. I can only hope that some of you will think first before you post. Have a better life.......
Yes, I'm really surprised too at the types of comments that are posted. I thought commenting on stories was supposed to be more constructive. And yet so many are so negative and what you said in your second paragraph. I agree.
This is a liberal mainsteam media site but I still come here to see what the other side is saying and remid myself of typical lib behaviour. I would also go to the Huffington Puff but I dont want my computer to get a virus.
OMG!! I can't believe all the hatred in these 5 posts right here alone. Incredible, disgusting, vile, filth. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Unbelievable. Now, I gotta have an Alcoholic beverage just to calm down, jeez.....
And this is just about N Korea. If Sarah Palin comes up as a topic or someone similar - WOW - you should see how ugly it gets. No logical disussion or polite exchange of thought or opinion.
MSNBC posts these stories because it draws attention from the trainwreck that is our current course of foriegn policy in the Middle East. KJI makes a lot of noise, rattles his saber and talks a lot of smack but it's easy to keep him contained because any truly foolish actions on his part will draw the ire of his nursemaid, mainland China. So, the Obamination administration does nothing, nothing truly consequential happens and he and his minions look like they actually know what the hell they're doing, which suits the mainstream media to a "T".
....I have been with this homepage for a couple of years.....never have I seen such childish responses that berates previous commenters with name calling, racism, slander and religious bashing. I can only hope that some of you will think first before you post. Have a better life.......
It really makes no difference where you go, it's all the same crap, different headlines (some which actually report something) but the same old bashing and sour grapes.
I come here because it beats the funny papers.
I am surprised you comment hasn't been collapsed, Cookie.
I feel like the the murderer coming back to his own crime scene....just had to check !!!! You are definitely right about the other news agencies....still....got to find something more intent on the guts of our world afairs.
Apotheos.....above was a good example of what I was talking about. One has to read an article/comment more than once to get the full idea of a writer. Over the FULL two years I have seen some terrible postings both ignorant and foul in content.
The article says there are 28,500 US soldiers that are in harms way, and considering what the North has done in the last year. I would think that makes this article relevant. Plus I have friends that have relatives over there, and they are always concerned with what that mad man will do next.
I do agree that some of these comments are childish, and need to be removed.
Hi Cookie. I'm glad there's actually a sane person from Polk County in here. And I'm with you..."never have I seen such childish responses that berates previous commenters with name calling, racism, slander and religious bashing. I can only hope that some of you will think first before you post." There's nothing related to the subject lines in these groups and I'm out for good. Thanks for posting! - Tim
(p.s. - bryan, I've already started my Tanqueray 'n tonic, but "it's 5:00 somewhere"!!!)
The importance of this article is not so much about Kim's saber rattling. It's what will happen if he quits rattling and actually takes action. Then it becomes important because of the wild card named China.
I'm not too sure anyone really knows how China will react if the war between North & South Korea heats up again. Will they sit back and watch? Will they support the North? Will they use their economic hold over the US to effectively shut us down?
I don't really think Kim will try to do anything, he's just looking for attention again, food supplies must be getting pretty low at the end of winter. So he rattles his saber and everyone rushes to buy him off with more food which he uses to supply his troops. It's worked for him before.
I think I'd be more worried if he kicked the bucket. He's pretty much a known blow hard, but what do we really know about his son? What will his son feel he needs to do to hold on to power?
China will never react, the may take a stance of pounding their chest, but nothing more, they are up to their ears in US bonds and treasury notes. Never in a million years would they risk their financial future by propping up NK during a shooting gig
As for Cookie and the. rest of the mood squad, do us a favor and jump ship, we really don't care and won't miss you for a second/ I suggest something like the BBC.com. It's a bit dry, but a bit more dogmatic in it's position. See ya ...Bye!!
If this were not reported everyone would say this crap is being covered up, or hidden from the public. Staying informed no matter how repetative is still a wise course for any news organization.
Our troops abroad practice war exercises where ever they are, every year, as well as some here in the USA with allied countries. I live close enough to hear the artillery several times a year, and hear gun fire at practice Landing Zones, and I also see these allied troops off base. And it has been so for very many years, I hope I still do for the rest of my life.
I have a hard time understanding what these complaints y'all post are really all about.
I do hope that we are forever aware of the threats that some countries are to our country, and are prepared for the worst.
Sully, you are on point and get the big picture. Most on these posters have never served a day in the military or been a place of harms way. I did two ups in the Navy and can assure you that the little yellow PRNK are trouble makers that take every opportunity to blow off a few rounds of ammo. They sunk a South Korean Frigate and no one responded so they shelled an island and then got shelled back. When south Korea fired back the North rolled it up in a tiny pack and beat feet. The North could never ever invade the South because they can't feed their army at home, let alone during an invasion. They might have a plan to live off the land, but, in general that only buy's you a week of time. The Chinese and Russians are in the identical position. They cannot afford to project power or move an army long distances. A shooting war with the North would be over in a week and frankly the South doesn't want to feed and take care of a defeated North Korea. Just like the Berlin wall, Germany suffered for 20 years after it's demise. they ended up with an uneducated, brainwashed and hungry populace that was very expensive to bring up to standard. To this day the Old Berliners are still about 25% unemployed because of age and education.
Pyongyang has called the drills a preparation to invade North Korea, though South Korean and U.S. officials have repeatedly said the maneuvers are purely defensive and that they have no intention of attacking.
BULL @!$%#
they are giving the north the poker face and it will not work!
sounds like the typical US trying to treat their enemies as if they were retarded.
The retarded one here would be you. These drills have taken place for decades but you wouldn't know anything about that because you're just an anti-US mouthpiece. Pull your ignorant head from your behind.
u should really see the video where Donald Rums field is shaking hand with Saddam long before the Iraq war. This @!$%# is not hard to figure out the difficulty is convincing people to stop lying to themselves!
just an FYI for ya Scott. Bush Sr. has been friends with the Royal Saudi's since the 1970's(including the Bin Ladens--it is a proven fact). And the Reagan Administration sold arms to both Iran and Iraq. At one time or another, both those countries were considered Allies, and we did our best to play them against one other. It doesn't take to much research to find the "truths" if one is so inclined to do so. I like to keep pushing this book: House of Bush, House of Saud. By Craig Unger... its a few years old now, but it is still very revealing. It is also unbiased.
yes i know! everything u mentioned i already knew it these dumb hillbilly @!$%#s that that keep voting for scumbags who are constantly using the Trojan horse tactic. It never ceases to amaze me how so many people do not notice this!
Scott, if you can find a copy of that book.... it is a very interesting read... copy right was 2004, but it is still very relevant. much of the problems we are now experiencing, were foretold(or foreshadowed I guess) in this book... House of Bush House of Saud. Craig Unger.
Excuse me! Hello! I've read at least a hundred headline articles on here today and disagreed with a few of them when they said it was a non-news item. Then this one comes up and no one's complaining. I never get to be first but this is a non-news item, N. Korea says this every day!!!!
It's called news because it is New information. Even if it is similar to the old information. Now, the question is whether it is news of relevance to us.
Here's the thing, since you like that term. Technically they are still at war and N and S are only under a ceasefire. This war has never ended. North Korea has done far more than threaten war and in the last year or so they have sunk an South Korean Navy vessle and fired upon a South Korean island killing many. Those are just the latest. Take it with a grain of salt? This is a delicate situation no doubt, but taking it with a grain of salt is ignorant.
The whole truth you will never know, but the lession is always the same War is a rotten, dirty, nasty thing that some need to taste to understand. the us has held south korea from tacking back the north only to please the china politics one of you thinks that seoul is 20 miles from the dmz get a map please and then get a damm clue, north korea gnp divides out 98% to military 2% food you know rice ect. not enough to feed them so we send in grain whitch stablies the north. with the kim geting older he needs to leave his sons power intact what better way than up the anty his rise to power was the same shoot down helo return crew then send a platoon of north koreans through jsa lossing all but two to tell the tale then claim they were farmers. or how about divers blown out the Imjim river right next to Freedom Bridge for a MANCHU this is just another day. 1/9th Inf 2nd Div. Camp Greaves DMZ South Korea p.s. the unit now at camp greaves 1bn506th Inf
North Korea has always threatened and actually attacked us and S. Korea. The N. Koreans captured a U.S. Navy Ship in 1968 and held the crew hostage for many months, we did nothing, why would they expect anything different.
There is nobody in world that really fears us. We have all the technology to be had, but it is worthless because we still line up in firing lines to be targets (we play the archaic rules). We have demonstrated our cut and run behavior seen 1953 (the going gets tuff tuck it and git).
If this continent was invaded, is there one person on this thread that really believes that the invaders would give a flip about innocent civilians. There are no innocent civilians in a warzone. In Viet Nam did the good guys wear black pajamas or white pajamas. The innocent are used as shills to disguise the movements of the bad guys, but wound or kill one and you are a baby killer. Yes Suzy Q most of the ememies we engage would blow your baby right out of your arms and not have a second thought about it. Think they care if you call them baby killers?
Unfortunately the threats from NK are now backed by a nuclear weapons capability. That can change the whole picture. Perhaps preemptive destruction from the South or from our off-shore military should be considered.
Is it just me, or does the US and South Korea do a hell of a lot of "military exercises?" Seems like there is one every other weekend there and that North Korea is all bent out of shape about it.... Anyone ever think that maybe they might be part of the problem?
Just for a thought firefighter, say you were the coach of a football team, but you weren't gonna play a game for say, 6 months. Does that mean that you do not practice and scrimmage? NO!! In fact, if you don't practice, how can you be prepared for the dumb ass things that Ole Kim Baby may do? Practice Makes Perfect. And you as a so called firefighter have to know that. Don't you do fire drills, carry heavy dead weight up flights of stairs, put out prepared fires, etc. etc..... think about it. Think Man, Think.... LOL
Scott, you sound like a typical idiot blogging on a subject you know absolutely nothing about. I was stationed in Korea back in the early 1980's, and we did the same sort of exercises back then. These exercises have been conducted annually since shortly after the Korean War. None of them have led to any invasion of North Korea. The only difference in recent months is that the North Korean government seems to be getting less and less stable. I think it is because they realize that their game is just about up. I just hope they fall out of power without triggering a war. If there is a war, it will be very bloody and very short.
If there is a war, it will be very bloody and very short.
WRONG! The people of this country would never allow that to happen. We (as always) will have to discern (as a bullet flies toward our head) is that a good guy or a bad guy that is shooting at me. Guess I will never know as I fall dead, but at least I can't be called a baby killer and I did follow the rules of engagement.
Here's the thing, the leaflets probably didn't reach any populated area, and even if they did, it's no secret any longer in the North that the South has a higher quality of life. The government cannot hide it any longer, and has admitted it. But we're dealing with a hyper-nationalist population, which prospers in good times and bad. Which means that they don't care about how much better off the South is.
toasty, it's not about what they think they already know. It is fuel for the fire, propaganda man, it's powerful stuff. It's Uber Advertising and it works. It isn't meant for the well-to-doers, it is meant for the ones who want to be well-to-doers......
No mention of the protests happening in North Korea? What a shame. Yes folks, there are currently small anti-government protests happening in North Korea. They may be crushed right now, or they may be growing, we don't know. It takes a lot to get information out of there.
But this show of force from North Korea may be a defense mechanism of theirs in order to create propaganda hoping to quell the protests. Why else would they say this when the regime was trying SO hard to not make South Korea mad again?
If you want to know whats going on in Korea, just go to: english.chosun.com and read the news. Its all there. You've just been cooped up too long in your college dorm smoking stinky stuff and you believe every left-wing college professor and their left-wing college rags called campus press.
the hell you say protesters is the south realy! you know that it's a whole different thing than you think . most protests are coll students and its like we go to the mall on friday meeting the rough boys out back .only their's has cs gas ,bottles, rocks and yes those bad rubber bullets you know the same ones the used at Kent State all those years ago this has been a tradision i was told to show the unity of spirt what ever that ment but it has be going on since the late 70's
Sorry to disappoint you, but I and all of my children have elevated IQs. One son got one question wrong on the SAT for a total score of 1590. He now works as a lawyer in the state prosecutor's office. I find long term college professors to be out of touch with the real world. But they can pretend to be oh-so-intelligent to their students barely out of high school. Liberal arts drones are the worst of the pack.
Perhaps they are more scared of the same happening up there:)
Ross-517902 The North is not pleased that the Middle East has taken center stage. Here we are! Over here! Remember us! You know the crazy lunatics that like to murder without repercussion. We're back!
You mean to tell me The Republicans are in North Korea?
Forget the drills and just attack them.
Rockne, try to not be so leftist wacky and inject republican democrat childlike banter into this. It belittles you.
It's long overdue that the two Koreas be reunited---under the Kims.
How much longer will the U.S. puppets in the South be permitted to subject the good people of the North to wanton military provocation?
Kim reminds me of a cartoon poster I saw with a mouse standing defiantly giving an approaching eagle the finger......
Talk about an egomaniac!
Jeesh, just invite the ding dong to the party.
Yep, figured we'd be hearing from the pudgy 4-eyed chihuahua any day now, it's been weeks since he had a headline.
Nightline Jan 14th 2002 outlines what war with N Korea would look like. Military experts ran a "simulation" of what that war would be like and it was NOT pretty. Here is the link if you don't care to click on it then go to Nightlines home page and look up by date. This episode will open your eyes.
Oh yeah... I love it!!
I really wonder, how long is the world going to tolerate this guy, Kim Jong?
He is preping his "son in waiting", to take over and keep all this up also!
I say, lets get it over............Next time he starts up with the artillery!
Are you saying that the US and SK are doing this on purpose to goad NK into attacking??
just do it already you fat little bastard. stop with the threats and just do it. It would be the last mistake you will ever make.
Good comments all. North Korea needs to be resolved. Will mankind be sitting here a 100 years from now dealing with Kim Il Boo!? End this tragedy now.
The world is full of "Fruits & Nuts!" ..
Hurray! :-)) I knew Kim wouldn't let us down. The middle east has been getting entirely too much attention and Little Kimmy is making his play. I wonder if the people of the DPNK have heard about all the up-risings taking place?
let's hope so. N Korea, what a bunch of jokers. You do drills, we attackie you.... hahaha dirt bags...
This N. Korea leader is getting old, personally I think he wants to go down in history for something.
I wish he'd get it going already... All I hear is a bunch of hot air...
"If you are going to shoot.... then shoot.... don't stand there and talk about it."
-Good, Bad, and Ugly Movie
Maybe best Western Movie Ever.....Waa-Wa-Wah....
Wrong.
The Chinese threw several million of their troops in to help North Korea.
Truman decided not to use nuclear weapons to end the Korean war, and Eisenhower settled for an armistice in 1953.
Left to fend for itself, North Korea would have been fallen to the US and its allies in 1951.
It's a shame that didn't happen.
L.J. Rhodes
We COULD have beaten North Korea, we just weren't willing to do what was necessary.
Tennessee..
Yep. Great mistake, too. Politics.
Ho hummm, another day in North Korea!
No kidding, Ed
Yes, I know the Chinese came to the aid of the North Koreans. And if we do not think that they will do so again, we are most unwise. And then what? Chinese internment camps in Arizona? They own half of California!
Every exercise seems like an invasion to Kim . Ok , the way to stop this thought process is to make a peace treaty with S. Korea or at least try doing this . I don't know of any act of trying to make a peace from Kim ? This doesn't mean I am correct . It means I don't know of any acts of peace coming from Kim .
The world is in shambles. The end is coming.
I'm inclined to agree- the end is near.
Apotheos,
You make a good point.
Nah. 1968. That was bad. This ain't jack poop.
I just started a blog addressing "World News in the Light of Bible Prophecy"
or find us on facebook group Our End Times
or twitter.com/ourendtimes
Not to put a buzzkill on your new blog, but you do realize that there have been saying that the "end times are here" for millennia. Mostly because the biblical prophecies have described things that always happen anyway, like wars and famine.
Take this line of discussion to Religious Doomsday Forum. This forum is about Korea and doesn't need fatalistic self-doubt and self-flagelation. Nor does this forum need fear mongering of the type preached by David Koresh, Jim Jones and other religious nuts who trigger mass suicides among fearful people.
I pray that everyone can set there eyes on Jesus and not men....
Read his teachings in the Bible and don't pick out flaws of other Christians.
God knows we can't be perfect, thats why he sent Jesus to save us...
Apotheos,
Christian hypocrisy is as old as ancient Jerusalem. Jesus had to deal with the radical religious conservatives of His day.
As a gentle reminder to all followers of Jesus Christ, worldwide, on this vine:
@ Silverton The sad thing about Gandhi is that a lot of Chrisitans probably believe he's rotting in hell right now.
We went from N. Korea to discussing Christianity ? You're all crazies IMO.
I wish it would come already...
@ Mike S. if Ghandi is rotting in Hell, then too, is Mother Teresa.
Jobe stated:
"As a Christian you do realize that Satan is th ruler of this world, dont you?"
As someone who is spiritual, no. The only thing ruling the world at this time, is human greed.
"It is clearly documented in the Bible."
As are all of the statements you make. Are you afraid to make any without the use of the bible?
"Politicians are also in bed with the prince of darkness.'
And you are a witness to this, and can prove it to be the "prince of darkness", and not just their choice of path in life?
Can we now get this back on track?
I'll believe the end times are nigh when and only when RobCo Pip-Boy units become available at Wal-Mart.
The fundament of Christianity and all religion is denial of reality and the responsibility that goes with reality.
Kedbob,
I am a christian but have found it against what I am following to put others down or to try to force them to follow my ways.
What are you talking about? The true goal of Christianity is to love others and to teach a message of hope. As for the other faiths, I have studied them and most of them have similar teaching although a few are of a violent bend. But to make statements like this you are actually showing the same ignorance you are claiming these people have. My reality is in front of my eyes, I see the same things you do, the only difference is that I live with a hope and know the grace of salvation. You do not and this is your right, but quit forcing your faith on others (and yes atheism is a faith, it is a faith in a lack of faith, at least this is how our supreme court defined atheism.
Now can we stop this link and go to the others that are actually discussing the situation that was posted.
The South would beat the North back 10-15 years. I hope the North fires any kind of attack. Then you would see another country get there arse handed to them!
have them fire a nuke, you make alot of sense.imagine the loss of life.1rst one is probally aimed at seoul.wake up
With a little applied diplomacy, perhaps China would annex North Korea and settle the issue.
They still can't deliver a nuke without a truck.
Heh, they'll have to push the nuke across the DMZ in a wheelbarrow.
Lets just get it over. Let North Korea start something and Nuke them. If China can't control them, well, too bad.
Nuke them? Really? Do you maybe have any ideas that don't entail mass murder?
Nukes - No -- but if they do start something again like the recent murders, just take out some of their military equipment with strategic strikes.. Radar facilities, missile launchers, and maybe a cruise non-nuke into Kim's palace.
A few UAV's armed with some ordinace could be fun for such a mission.
Terry G-2285568: Nuke Hell! We might blow our own ass off. Send Kim a case of good scotch wiskey and a carousing, "devil may care", good looking whore. He'll settle down for at least another month.
@ Remberash I agree. We could kick NK's ass without even putting a soldier on the ground.
@ Ben F. not a bad plan, but first we would have to send a months supply of Viagra... haha!!!
What if he nukes us first?
MOAB. Lots and lots of them~
The plain truth is that we have not learned yet how to care for each other. For all the preaching of peace, we have not peace.
There will be no war with N. Korea without involving the Chinese. If it comes to war, expect nukes since three our of four principles have them. Nobody will "win" anything. Our species has a death wish.
2012 the world ends in a ball of fire
Always has been, always will be.
Yeah, it's rather disconcerting to see how many Americans are eager to see our civilian and military leaders in shackles in front of a Crimes Against Humanity tribunal...
another war mongering republican heard from!!!!!
Yeah but North Korea doesn't have any oil for Halliburton and Texas Oil to steal.
hoiw about minding our own back-yard 1st plenty of @!$%# wrong here to worry about
@ robert-818426.... How could YOU? Speak the TRUTH, that is.
The North always pulls something when attention is being distracted from them. Kim can't stand not being the center of attention. He is like a two year old. I wish someone would just tell him "Make my day" and fire on him!!
Yeah, that sounds like a plan that will make everything all better... What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
absolutely nothing.......
So the south bombs the north with leaflets, and the north threatens to retailiate with real bombs.
What's wrong with this picture?
Sounds pretty consistent with about 150,000 years of human history to me.
Rummy Tub: Nothing.
@RummyTub, what's wrong with this picture is, is that the leaflets didn't have mini bombs that explode upon opening.... was that wrong of me to type? hahahaha!!!
You laugh at your own jokes. Now that's funny!
Try a billion screaming China men right after that...
Ok a few things...1) Aren't Patriots designed to shoot down enemy missiles, not target specific areas like cruise missiles
2) @Joe: Uh...the North does have SAMs. And can shoot down an A-10...
So give it a rest!
Deepsea,
Thanks so much for giving us an inside view of this situation.
What a goofy bunch of 'Patriots' you all are! Kill, kill, kill - then kill some more!! Ah, it so warms the heart...
Someone should given Kim a harsh spanking with a wooden spoon. Maybe then he would stop these antics.
RackNStack, who's to say he wouldn't like it? After all, he's a very sick man.
 Send out the balloons!Â
Let the party begin Kim
Pop,Pop bye bye Kimmy. About time already !
I thought those were giant condoms................
left over from the Singapore heist.
It's obvious that lil Kim's getting a little envious, now that Kadaffy seems to be getting all that attention.
On a serious note, this still sounds like very typical N. Korean rhetoric.
*Rolls eyes*
Well, How Rude!! ;-)
 10 Mi. from d.c
I get so tired of hearing your crap. Ive heard it for over 80 years...go away...
Gettin' a little long in the tooth, eh?
Damn, thas a long time boy-ee!!!
Nice Rant. I look forward to seeing you next week....
Yes, I'm really surprised too at the types of comments that are posted. I thought commenting on stories was supposed to be more constructive. And yet so many are so negative and what you said in your second paragraph. I agree.
Two years and the posts on here are the worst you've ever seen? I've been on here for two weeks and I've seen worse on other stories...
Have some Fritos to go with that Alcoholic beverage.. It'll make your gut churn less seeing all that Hatred.....;-)
And this is just about N Korea. If Sarah Palin comes up as a topic or someone similar - WOW - you should see how ugly it gets. No logical disussion or polite exchange of thought or opinion.
Heres a thought: introduce Kim and Sarah to each other.....
The TeaTards are multiplying like rats - there's your answer.
It really makes no difference where you go, it's all the same crap, different headlines (some which actually report something) but the same old bashing and sour grapes.
I come here because it beats the funny papers.
I am surprised you comment hasn't been collapsed, Cookie.
Paul....I have to agree with you....
Thanks for your post Paul !!!!
Cookie,
The article says there are 28,500 US soldiers that are in harms way, and considering what the North has done in the last year.
See ya ...Bye!!
here we go again. more n korea threats. more us and s korea concessions. where does it end?
And what would you propose that will make the situation better?
A few Tomahawk missiles up Kim's ass might shut him up.
The seahawks actually have fans? Wow!!! Now that is NEWS, you listening MSNBC? That is a NEWS Story right there....
Scott, I would love to see your list of scumbags, just to see which ones are omitted.
This could be the real headline here!
from what i have noticed about 90% of republicans Ron Paul excluded (the only republican i would ever vote for). plus a small number of democrats.
Excuse me! Hello! I've read at least a hundred headline articles on here today and disagreed with a few of them when they said it was a non-news item. Then this one comes up and no one's complaining. I never get to be first but this is a non-news item, N. Korea says this every day!!!!
Low-Life Lyndsey Lohan is a non-news item..... well, maybe this too.
It's called news because it is New information. Even if it is similar to the old information. Now, the question is whether it is news of relevance to us.
Although threatening war has all the North has done since 1953, so take it with a grain of salt.
An armistice is an armistice. I know TV documentaries like to use the soundbite "we're still technically at war," but it's not very accurate.
As for the attacks, you need to be reminded that they have been doing this for decades. The only difference this time is the presence of TV cameras.
Well clearly. I was mostly just trying to tone down the false excitement that some people have about these ridiculous leaflets.
N. Korea just needs another dose of international attention. Now that is has it again, all else will fade into the background like it has since '53.
I honestly find that VERY hard to believe.
Toasty,
If you want to know whats going on in Korea, just go to: english.chosun.com and read the news. Its all there. You've just been cooped up too long in your college dorm smoking stinky stuff and you believe every left-wing college professor and their left-wing college rags called campus press.
Pray tell, Joe, in all your expert knowledge of Korean culture, please enlighten us.
Joe is everyone who is intellectual a left leaning nut case? Then do you pride yourselves being with the dumb crowd?
the hell you say protesters is the south realy! you know that it's a whole different thing than you think . most protests are coll students and its like we go to the mall on friday meeting the rough boys out back .only their's has cs gas ,bottles, rocks and yes those bad rubber bullets you know the same ones the used at Kent State all those years ago this has been a tradision i was told to show the unity of spirt what ever that ment but it has be going on since the late 70's
Toasty and Vince:
Sorry to disappoint you, but I and all of my children have elevated IQs. One son got one question wrong on the SAT for a total score of 1590. He now works as a lawyer in the state prosecutor's office. I find long term college professors to be out of touch with the real world. But they can pretend to be oh-so-intelligent to their students barely out of high school. Liberal arts drones are the worst of the pack.
Nobody's calling your kids dumb, Joe. Just you.
Toasty, I'm betting your IQ is about the temperature of an ice cube.
