Gil, don't count on it. I remember several things that happened when I was two including getting a dog in a neighboring city. I remember what the room looked like and how my dad asked me which dog I wanted then we got that dog. I don't remember this because of what someone told me because the only other family member who has discussed this with me remembers it slightly differently and we used to argue about it until I realized that she obviously would have had a different perspective and thus a different memory-ie, she likely missed what my dad said to me. I also remember having books put into my crib to keep me occupied looking at the pictures. If you are counting on trauma to cause her to block it out, then that is likely unless she is interviewed extensively-though that can be blocked out as well-but traumatic memories can resurface, despite some claims to the contrary. (Some traumatic memories that have resurfaced have been proven in a court of law.) I do hope you are right, though, and that the poor girl never does remember unless there is some reason why she needs to for HER sake. Being a survivor of severe trauma, I know that sometimes a person does need to remember something horrible for their own sake.

Unfortunately, our U.S. Supreme Court ruled putting monsters like this to death, unconstitutional. It is somehow cruel and unusual punishment.

Let me add that just b/c I had to remember horrible things does not mean that I hope this poor girl ever has to. However, it was necessary for me to enable me to break out of coping mechanisms I had develped for the trauma that were not working any more now that the trauma was over. (And, for you doubters, a good bit of my trauma happened when I was a young girl-AND I have been able to confirm quite a bit of it objectively.)

This is sickening. I can't express my horror and disgust. I do, however, find some of the comments unsettling. While I agree with hoping that his punishment befits the crime and that he never be allowed, through whatever means, to be out in society where this could happen again, some of the graphic suggestions about what people would like to see done to him makes me wonder about their mental state as well.

Do you go to an amusement park with someone you don't know? They knew him well enough to spend the day with him. They knew him well enough to leave a little girl with him. wade - They thought they had proper supervision they didnt leave the kid alone. They left the kid with someone that they came to the park with. Probably specifically so that they can still ride some rides. My parents left me and brother (and later on my sister) with another adult specifically so they could ride rides also. They all took turns watching us. There is nothing wrong with this and people do it all the time. Unfortunately the person this couple chose wasnt as trustworthy as they thought.

The article really needs to be more clear about where this guy came from. Was he with them or not? Because while it does not change the completely and totally horrible nature of what happened. Or the fact his man is a monster it does change the perspective. If hes a friend of the family it raises the question is this the first time hes done this to the girl or just the first time he got caught. If hes just some random stranger it brings into the question how much of a responsible parent her mother is and whether she should be charged or not.

People like this guy make it very hard on everyone else in the world. Once I was in a store and this little girl got lost and is quietly crying for her mom. And the first instinct you have is ok take her over to customer service and have her parents paged. The second thought is ok what if they pop out from around the corner and assume the worst and i end up in trouble. If you do nothing and just walk away whats to say someone isn't gonna kidnap her? So I ended up having to try and keep an eye on her while looking for the closest employee I could find hoping she didn't wander out of my sight.

Every time these bizarre events occur the public screams out in outrage. Everyone yells about having the offender shot, hung, burnt, etc. and I agree. I don't think this is enough though. Surely there is something seriously out of whack with any person above puberty (especially a grown up) who finds a child sexually desireable. Are behavioralists studing and/or researching this very unnatural and awful behavior? There must be something common among such people to the extent they could be identified and reported to authorities as possible offenders of that type. I hope this will happen some day soon. You cannot rehabilitate these people. They serve their time and they are released back into society because the bleeding hearts can't deal with them effectively. Our sheriff's departments are stuck with the responsiblity of keeping up with them, and there are plenty of websites out there that tracks where they live. If we are not going to execute the scum of society then we should at least put a warning label on them before we turn them loose.. Put a tattoo on their forehead that shows what they are. Monitor them to make sure it does not get removed. But it should be very easy to identify them in public for all to see.

There are some occasions when a mother might have to leave her chid in the care of someone she knows and BELIEVES she can trust. The sad thing is that crimes of this nature are most often committed by people we BELIEVE we know. Alas, we never really know what anyone is really capable of doing. So, in that regard, I'd be hard pressed to EVER leave my child with anyone regardless of relationship. Sad commentary on the state of our putrid society these days!

I worked in the accounting department of a Mental Health Clinic when I was younger and we were encouraged to attend the monthly in-services held. One such occasion was presented by two highly trained and respected Psychiatrists who stated unequivocally that there is NO rehabilitating these types of sexual offenders. Those in their care were being treated with medical castration. There were just as many running around that were not being treated at all. If allowed they will find a way to repeat their offenses.

These types of predators will find a way, even in a crowded park, to enact their crimes. There is no understanding their minds...I wouldn't want to, having lived through it myself all I can think of is how can a child ever defend themselves from something so horrific? They can't, this monster needs to have his life ended....period. I get physically sick every time I hear of another sexual predator who was released and re-offended. ENOUGH!

First of all let me say that this was an atrocity. Yes I think the guy should get fried. In fact, I think that all murders and rapist should be put to death for what they have done. I see it way too much, parents act like it's a hassle to have a kid. Then why have the child in the first place? Kids are having kids these days. If you have a child it's your responsiblity to watch them and take care of them. It's not everyone else's responsiblity.

There are times when, as a parent, you do leave your child with others. It may be family, neighbors, or the babysitter. To say that a mother should never let her child out of her sight is ridiculous. And leaving with family members isn't all that great an idea all the time either. My grandfather molested me and my cousins. My grandmother beat me with power cords and burned my feet. Yes you do make sacrifices. Believe me Ive made alot. But it is unreasonable to think that someone will not ever have someone watch their kid for even a few minutes. Most mothers would only do so with someone they trust. Sometimes that trust is shattered. But the parents of the kid can just as easily do something to him (and to often does) Im not going to never ride a rollercoaster again because my child cant go on it. I bring trusted friends to the park with me and we take turns watching the kids and riding rides. My parents did the same thing. I remember my parents would go do their own thing while their friends watched me and my brother. And then my parents would watch us while the friends rode the rides they wanted to ride. Its the same thing, but she unfortunately trusted the wrong person. It could just as easily be a family member that breaks that trust, but the parents may have never thought that the family member was "iffy".

It is a small population (though admittedly to many) that would do such a thing. Sometimes people trust the wrong person. It happens but that doesnt mean you should never trust anyone be it family or close friends or strangers. It is unreasonable to always be in the same room as your kid 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 18yrs. Even for 5 yrs. You may ask your spouse (or the parent of the kid if not married) to watch your kid for 15minutes so you can shower. You don't know what is going to happen in that 15 minutes. So do you take the kid in the shower with you because you dont want the kid to be out of sight?

I personally wouldn't leave my dog with that guy, you can tell he's slow or something just by looking at him. I for one do not want to pay to keep this guy in prison or to feed him. He should just be raped and then shot. I would do it myself if I could. I am a survivor of the same thing, but mi went on from the time I was 5 till I was 14 when it finally ended. when he went to a mental hospital. She will have to carry around scars for the rest of her life. She might not be able to have children because of what he did to her. Which is a life sentence. It is not at all about sex as some people think. It is about control. When people can't control adults, they can control children.

Doctors consider a pedophile anyone who goes after PRE-pubescent kids. But lots of the general public use the label "pedophile" for anyone who goes after anyone younger than what they personally find comfortable. Whether that's 14 or 24.

When it comes to pedophiles you need to back up what you are saying Phydeux. It has been proven in study after study by numerous professionals that pedophiles can not be rehabilitated and unless under the strictest enforcement, they will re-offend. Yes, there are those that are innocent or lumped under the term pedophile that maybe shouldn't be - such as the 18 yr. old that slept with his 16 yr. old girlfriend and the parents got him convicted. That's one even I think should be labeled differently - but those that attack the youngest in our society and have the evidence right in their slimy little hands to prove their guilt need to be put down like the mad dogs they truly are.

Other articles say he came with them. But, the statement you just quoted does not. From that statement, they could have met early on at the park and hung out.

Earlier on, this article stated that he worked with the woman. It still states that the 4 of them were at the park together.
