Boy, what a hypocrite! I remember Gaddafi calling for the revolt of Palestinians against Israel. He also called for Jihad against Switzerland. Instead HE is being ousted. Ahmadinejad should worry about the stability of his own country since THEY already tried to revolt against him.

There could be some upheaval in the US, but it won't be because of the reasons he is talking about. American issues will arise out of two parties with fundamentally different platforms and no real areas of compromise between the two. It is a game of all or nothing in Washington and the public is left frustrated in the middle. Growing frustration could become a problem if bipartisan solutions to immigration, budget deficits, taxes, unions, etc. are not found. The public wants solutions and each party views the public's angst as a validation of their platform over the other - and the cycle continues.
The public gets the government that it deserves. If primary voters stopped electing extremists as their nominees, there might be a chance for compromise. If the public at large would stop voting the party line, and voted for an independent, there might be a chance for compromise. If people actually VOTED, there might be a chance for compromise. Instead, we have the mess that we have because that's what the majority of the VOTING public wants. They'd rather have "Joe the Plumber" and a sounde-bite than someone with 30 years of experience who actually understands economics, the principles of constitutional government and the intricacies of foreign affairs, even if all these things can't be explained in 5-second catch phrase.
And guys like Glen Puke, Rush Lardball and the rest continue to throw gas on the fire......AND LINING THEIR POCKETS WITH MILLIONS IN CASH FROM FOOLS!
Dave, the success of our country is built on gridlock. Gridlock helps to promote the most popular laws while preventing extreme laws from being enacted. I would say America's problems stem from too much Springer, Survivor, and Jersey Shore where the behavior of the dregs of Society are put on display and idolized. Actually, I was watching CSPAN the other day and couldn't figure out why Snookie wasn't in that particular episode.

zoroaster - I understand your post and actually agree with a lot of what you are saying. The system we have was built to slow things down. This slow down, creates problems when coupled with today's 24-hour news cycle and the attitude of it's my way or the highway (reality TV). It is our new reality and a lot of people don't realize its full impact on politics. There is no room for compromise because votes might be lost - you have to keep your base happy. People want action and expect it. Congress can't deliver because of political liabilities which they are not willing to face. It creates an atmosphere of animosity and the news feeds on it - adding fuel to the fire. Unless we relearn the art of compromise, there will be trouble in the future.
Our politicians better learn fast or it will be a liability that they do not start doing something that's in a forward moving direction. All the right wingers do is gridlock or move backwards, waste time. they talk a big game but when it comes down to it they are for large money interests only not for the good of all.

Well many people in the middle east can't comprehend the fact that some people actually LIKE their government. We may have our problems and arguments, but we can settle them with debates and elections. That's what separates us from them. Unfortunately, all these new civil uprisings over there will just lead to more of the same. Without a well thought-out constitution in place BEFORE their new government is established, they are doomed to end up with the same old totalitarian regime.

Ahmadinejad is possibly more prescient than he realizes. What he clearly doesn't realize is that in the 'popular uprisings' around the world each reveals the unique circumstances of the society that gives rise to it. Technology in general and the wide-spread growth of instant news and communication via the Internet, etc., weaken the strangle-hold of despotic regimes. Yet it also reflects the cultural orientation of each nation. Thus, an uprising in one country that may result in an Islamist takeover does not mean that a neighboring country's unrest won't result in something much more open and democratic. Similarly, other than people in the streets it is clear that the protests in Madison are different than those in Cairo in significant ways. History may prove Ahmadinejad prophetic in making statements that presage his own governments downfall.

What a shameless attempt to spin a story. The Iranian President uses his Basij to repress his people, rigs elections, and now gets up and says this unrest is coming to Europe and America. Not likely, we don't rig elections, we don't use hired thugs to beat our people in the streets. Shamless.

Most days I think this guy is a crack head - but other times he makes statements that have a peculiarly stark and sharp hint of truthfulness. For now, the upheaval is in the middle east. And I do believe it will spread to Europe - and even here to the US. And I wonder if this upheaval will become the class and religious war we've all been warned about?
A good amount of the upheaval is about taking down those who live much too well off the people's backs. The inequality seems to have finally reached the boiling point. But, after the de-throwning, those left lack the education and/or experience to govern masses of people. In most cases, the only thing they will have left is religious leaders who will shackle new found freedoms with religious doctrine. And the upheaval will turn to holy wars.
You can bet US security is very busy feeling the pulse of the homeland. We have hundreds of thousands - if not millions - who are disenchanted with politicians, corporate greed, welfare/unions/cartels, and again, religious factions who wage political dominance.
I probably don't have all the parts and pieces exactly correct - there are just too many variables. But, this WILL be a very interesting time for the history/future of our planet and will undoubtedly set the stage for the next couple thousand years.
