Would that be last Wednesday, or is this two paragraph article written by Nostradamus and foreshadowing tomorrows news? Today would be Tuesday not Wednesday.
I too had to double check my phone to find out if it was Wed. If it had been Wed. my boss would have been pissed, cuz I have a report due for him Wed morning.
This is precisely why you can't believe everything you read. The darn day of the week is wrong, Mr Editor. If the editor can't get that fact correct by just looking at his cell phone or on his/her computer then how professional is he/she at getting the other facts correct before sending it out to the world.
what's an editor? today's 'journalists' are interns who spend all day on facebook.
msn is circling the bowl. the only way they can get anyone to use bing is to con them by having fake headlines (the stories are real but you have to 1st go to bing to find them) filling half the news section.
People have been shot. Why all the joking and snarky comments just because the article says Wednesday instead of Tuesday?
Because it goes to the credibility of the news story. We see time and again the media posting news stories that are filled with assumptions which defy the actual facts. If you can't tell me the correct day of the week then your going to have a hard time selling me news! Yes, people it appears have been shot and that is always a tragedy, but it doesn't prevent editors from doing their jobs correctly!
According to the axiom, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" there is no such thing as an "accidental" (no matter what day of the week it is) shooting. Saying so is about as stupid as saying the pencil makes a spelling mistake, not the person using it. Under such a premise Cheney must have intended to shoot his friend. If he hadn't, he wouldn't have been holding the shotgun to begin with. Sometimes it is hard to tell which is more frightening, the morons who believe such arguments, or the fact that most of them have guns.
sniffle & 42, because most of us don't wet our pants over this sort of thing and we like a little thing called facts in our news. it's goes to credibility. speaking of, the number keeps changing, 1st it was 3, then 2, now back to 3. get with it msn!
For those who find the day of the week perplexing, how about a back pack was dropped, causing a gun to fire, and either the gun fired one bullet that hit three people or the gun fired three times and was on target each of the shots? Now if you can believe those details, maybe it really is Wednesday.
PHEW !!!...LaRaza is breathing a sigh of relief...it was reported it was a regular black american .....and not an illegal alien or undocumented student or whatever you call them these days....and 2 different reports....3 students shot----shooter in custody....AND..... 2 students accidentaly wounded (one in the head) by one bullet as gun in dropped bookbag goes off.....nothing like reporting the FACTS !!!
PlutoIsAPlanet...I read your post after I posted mine...great take on the bookbag-Wednesday connection !!!
Looks like this story was pieced together from several sources and not read prior to posting by a copyreader/editor. Happens often when the news organization is rushing to get a piece up.
Gardena's a pretty tough area with serious gang problems. It's illegal for kids to bring guns to school in LA, but it happens more often than we think. Many of the schools in the LA basin have metal detectors at main entrances to spot weapons - would certainly have been a good idea at this school.
Two students were shot accidentally at a Los Angeles high school on Tuesday morning when a student dropped a backpack containing a gun...
No way, no how. Maybe they were shot at the same time the backpack was dropped but firing when dropped inside a backpack, and then hitting two people. Nope.
Apparently it's a class where they inform the students that the Mexican-American War either did not happen or that the Mexicans won and; therefore, California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico still belong to Mexico. Oh, and that the Gladsen purchase did not happen either.
What the hell is a Mexican-American social studies class?
Brainwashing! They teach the kids that Mexico played an intricate role in modern culture and prosperity of America! Also, they raise the issue that Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Southern California really belongs to Mexico and was "stolen".
In 1821 the Spanish empire fairly compensated the indigenous people with unicorns and big fluffy white clouds in a purchase that was to become the western united states. In 1848 a mean and evil United states forced the sale of this property when it was clear that Mexico had called a time-out AND the sun was in their eyes.
Mexican-American Social Studies, what the hell is that? Is there Swedish-American Social Studies or Russian-American Social Studies, the list can go on and on.
A school with a gang reputation and no medal detectors....okay!
Stricter gun laws for the law abiding citizens, what are they going to do about the gang bangers and the crooks. They will always be able to get guns illegally.
It happened today. Tune into Cable News and get the real story.
Guns and kids, including the obnoxious Loughner with that silly grin on his face, while in Court doing his dirty deed in Tucson. Gangs; their wildness reigns..
More guns, and more guns in irresponsible hands. Doesn't matter if there is a Gun Law. These jerks will find a weapon anywhere; including stealing it from a person who has a valid license to own one.
There's no stopping selling guns. Walmart has a huge selection. Just saw it, Rifles, and guns. Couldn't believe it.
My question is: WHY did he have the gun with him? what did he plan to do with it if he had not dropped the backpack and the gun discharged? (I don't carry my Bersa .380 loaded...it can discharge just by slapping the butt or bumping the grip when there is a round in the chamber. The safety is very weak on this gun. We didn't know that until after we bought it.)
Was the kid being bullied and he was going to settle the score? Was he after a Teacher who gave him a bad grade? Was he a gang banger seeking to take out a rival gang member? Lot of unanswered questions.
The "We need STRONG gun control" people are going to hold this up to us pro-2nd Amendment folks as an example of how evil guns are.
How is this really considered an accident. I get that the gun fired off "accidentally", the trigger wasn't pulled. But if some kid brought it to school, do you really think that an accident was about to take place? More like and intention, why would the kid have brought a gun to school if he did not intend to use it. I may almost be a blessing in disguise that the gun accidentally went off. It is very sad that anyone had to get hurt and I do hope that both victims are and will be ok, but with a gun in school the tragedy could have been far worse.
Parents lock up your guns, teach your kids and pay attention to their behavior. Take an active role in their lives and care about their feelings, however trivial they may seem to you. If you think they might need help get it for them. I dont know the exact situation, but if a kid brought a gun to school there was a reason for it, and parents should be more proactive. Look at the shooting in Arizona, had dudes parents taken the advice from his college to get him a psych eval, maybe, just maybe those people wouldnt be dead today. Think people, think.
Marchant #1.3, A friend of mine moved from Seattle to Utah. When he got there he payed a couple of guys on the street to help him unload the truck. Two days later he noticed two of his licensed guns missing but not the cases. As a result of a police report he was told that the both of them had records and were gang affiliated. You never know what you're going to get when you hire someone off the street.
"...but it wasn't not clear if the person was a suspect in the case."
I had to read this twice it is so garbled. And whoever wrote it even got the date wrong. This one kid broke the law (concealed carry) and the school rule of zero tolerance, but the anti-gun activists will pounce on it and add it to the Tucson tragedy as proof -- in their tiny heads -- that we should confiscate all legally owned guns. Ho hum...zzzzz......
I don't and have never under stood why Mexicans want to be called Latinos. Imagine the difference it would have made if John Wayne would have said at the Alamo "Santa Anna is coming here with 5000 Latinos instead of SANTA ANNA IS CHARGING ON US WITH FIVE THOUSAND MEXICANS!!!" He would then have said"We don't need a hundred men to fight,we should be fine with fifty!! L.O.L.
Another typical day in America why even put this stuff on the news. It’s a common occurrence in American daily life if it's not a psycho, criminal or terrorist who got a weapon either legally or illegally it's an accidential shooting. It’s the daily shooting, and you are right guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Guns just make it easy to kill people because any IDIOT can pull a trigger. So get use to the carnage this is the good old USA what what’s the big deal
This is headlines because it was accidental... It isn't news worthy for the intentional shootings because they happen every day here in the LA Basin...
just another punk wannabe gang banger with a gun. the military needs to go out and take out all the gangs so they cant influence children to become something worthless and dangerous.
American Dream, please do us both a favor and get that Bersa to a good gunsmith, before I end up reading about you having a round pried out of some delicate part of your anatomy. In its present state, it sounds like its more dangerous to you than a bad guy. No quality firearm should be so sensitive in this day and age. Mine has safeties out the wazoo, in addition to which it stays in its case or holstered until needed. My children were taught gun safety at an early age, as were my friends' children. they learned, as well, the consequences of firing one, since the people of whom I speak were soldiers, cops, or both. Our children would have known better than to be carrying a handgun at all, much less in a pack. The fact that this kid was carrying a loaded weapon into a school in a backpack suggests much concerning his intentions.
No quality firearm should be so sensitive in this day and age
Without being told just what it was, it could have been a rather vintage model of handgun. It could also have been tampered with in one way or another...for instance, someone attempting to lighten the trigger pull by polishing metal from the sear. It could also have been a lesser quality handgun (there used to be all kinds of them back when you could mail-order guns, which ended in 1968) that had reached the point where it wore out, which didn't take long for some of them!
People questioning the odds of this happening...let me tell you, it's pretty darn good. It was obviously a gun that was 'cocked and locked' with a cartridge in front of the firing pin. Old time revolvers without a transfer bar safety were notorious for firing if dropped hammer-first, and those were usually carried with five loaded chambers and the empty sixth beneath the hammer. When a round is fired, in a crowded school, any number of directions you look you'll see multiple people standing behind others.
"Intelligent Soul" - Your argument seems well founded until you realize that all of these incidents of guns hurting or killing people still results from the inappropriate and STUPID handling of a gun by the possessor. For instance, if you are carrying a gun concealed in any way, don't have a round in the chamber! This ensures that no round can possibly come into contact with the firing pin by accident (you have to chamber a round and then fire which is a process not easily accomplished inside a backpack). If there is a round in the chamber however, it doesn't take much for the weapon to be cocked and then the trigger pulled. If there are no additional safety features, the round goes off. This happens more often than you think to STUPID people (think Plaxico Burress).
People are still the ones killing people, but they can do it by sheer stupidity instead of voilent intent.
Thank you for a most interesting story. This is real life. None of us can ignore or put blinders on, and think that just because guns are banned, they will not reappear in someone elses hand; stolen---gangs, mass murderers, etc., know how to get the job done, just like the Extreme Terrorists.
People are capable of making their own personal guns. It is true. If not guns, it's grenades, small bombs, homemade weapons.
Mike : "MelBel..." I may almost be a blessing in disguise that the gun accidentally went off."
Except not so much of a blessing if your the kid that got shot in the head."
I understand that there were still 2 children injured seriously. My statement was to say that it could have been far worse. There could have been many children and teachers injured or killed if this kid had decided to open fire on a classroom full of people. I am sorry (like I said) that anyone was hurt and I think this kid should be held fully accountable (regardless of his reasons for bringing the gun to school), however I am thankful that it was not as bad as it could have been and I stand by that statement. My heart felt condolences go out to the families of the children who were shot, but I just cant help but think how many more could have been hurt. This kid didn't bring this gun to school without the intentions of using it, so if it had not gone off "accidentally" then it would have gone off intentionally. But if you read the article, just because he said "I'm sorry" after it fired doesn't make it an accident anyway.
Arnold's not gone for long and the whole place just goes to pot,oh yeah that didn't pass-nevermind!They need to simplify those 'no-guns' signs so school kids can understand them!
"I've never heard of anything like this before," said Thomas Hill, whose 16-year-old and 18-year-old children attend the school. "You're going to have confrontations between kids but never this."
I guess this guy also had his head under a rock for the past 20 years or so too and has never heard of Columbine or Santana (just to name a couple)
Fascinating that from the news article's description, it seems that one would be required to carry a firearm to that school just to assure that you would get out alive.
If I had been required to go to that school, I would have stayed home and home schooled myself, refusing to go for fear of my life.
He either had it because he wanted to show off or rival gangbangers were hassling him. OR he might have been planning to sell it or it was a loaner for a job. Even kindergarteners nowadays bring them to class (usually it's momma's boyfriend's piece).
When I was that age, thinking of this happening at my school was zip.
According to LA Times, student population of Gardena High is predominately Latino and Black. Gardena High's SAT and California API scores are embarrassingly low. That's putting it mildly. Like most of its high school students, Gardena is a low achiever going nowhere. It's not always been so dismal for Gardena, a small city within LA County. About five decades ago, Gardena, a suburb of LA City, was a hardworking, blue-collar middle class community populated by mostly Japanese Americans, Whites and a mixture of other minorities.
Today, the demographic and economic are very different. Previous amnesty program and the continuous illegal immigration have flooded LA County with Mexicans driving out the Blacks from Compton, Inglewood and even some part of South Central LA. As for the Whites, they have long fled to the Santa Monica Mountains and beyond. Stagnation, decay, devolution, and hopelessness are apt nouns that may substitute for Gardena, today.
Under the weight of a million illegal immigrants, Southern California is sinking into the abyss or turning into another Tijuana, Mexico, by the same people who fled Mexico for a life of vice or virtue. Violent crimes, gangsters, high drop-out rate, illiteracy, and drug related vices parallel that of Northern Mexico with the exception of beheading, public execution, assassination, and shoot-outs that are synonymous with Juarez, Mexico. But it's coming just a matter of time.
For middle America, Southern California may sound real far from Kansas but like the advertiser says, it's coming real soon to a neighborhood near you.
You are right John. After all we are talking the land of Maxine Waters, as well as all the other LA hoodlums, welfare mama's, gangs, and illegal aliens. In other words prime Democratic voting stock. I wouldn't last thirty seconds there either.
You're right Caye! It's obviously the fault of a conservative, especially Sarah Palin! Aren't these liberals so wonderful, they claim to be so open minded and support all women but when one doesn't walk in lockstep with the feminist gestapo leaders, they're savagely attacked and accused of causing the death of innocent people. Just goes to show what hateful kooks they really are, and what lengths they will go to to retain or regain political power.
I know, LA needs to import the Liberal Code Pink Crew from Berkeley to picket all the EVIL military requiters and the military bases in the area and run them out of town. They can also picket the Police Recruiters as well, the Police kill people with guns. That way when there are no more cops, or military bases and recruiters there will be no corruption of violence of their children there. And we can turn the whole mess over the Mexican Drug Cartels and walk away. Let them kill off each other and we move back in and mop up the remainders.
IN the meantime, while the battle of the turf is on going in the streets of LA, California saves un montón de dinero ( lot of money) by not paying for Cops and National Guardsmen. The jails will have reduced populations to give three hots and a cot to as bad guys would have never make it as far as jail because a rival gang member killed them. Its a win -win.
Found this story on a small sub-link. Ten years ago this news item would be the lead story. It's frightening to think that as a society we are apparently becoming de-sensitized to this type of violence. Can't be a good sign. My thoughts and prayers to the victims of yet another senseless act.
Susan - Since when is the accidental dropping of a backpack an act of violence? I guess this means that a death or injury caused by an auto accident is also an act of violence.
Yes, I feel bad for those affected, but emotions are NOT facts.
Susan, I have to agree with Darthdon on this one. A tragic accident but not an act of violence, per se...although one has to wonder what a 10th grader was doing with a gun in his backpack in the first place. Certainly the idea of committing an act of violence was in his mind somewhere, and perhaps that's the most tragic aspect of all.
To get to the point of your post Susan, you are exactly right. Not only de-sensitized,
but also to the point of some thinking it's a joke. I would have to think that the funny people were born into this and do not know that there was a time when this type of thing was a rare exception in our society.
Before the incident of 2 kids being shot happened who knows what was going to happen that day! It is an act of violence to carry a gun, and to a school. Is a gun like packing your homework for school? Do you have your homework? 'yes', do you have your gun? 'oopz nearly forgot thanks mum!!!! Its sad to see that when kids have problems they resort to using guns, and how can we blame them, its been so commercialised in movies etc and for parents to have a gun clearly in reach and eye shot of kids/teenagers is absolutely ridiculous!!! If you ever find the need to shoot someone else for your own selfish unjust reasons start with yourself!
one has to wonder what a 10th grader was doing with a gun in his backpack
He probably put it in there, but it is always possible somebody else put it in there to frame him or just to get it out of their possession so they didn't get caught with it.
Given the fact that he apologized immediately and ran off, I think that's prima facie evidence he knew it was in there. Otherwise, he'd have been as surprised as anyone else and wondering what the hell was going on, trying to figure it out instead of apologizing and running off.
Andrea Tibbs, who described herself as a “good friend” of the student, told the Los Angeles Times that he started bringing the gun to campus to protect himself after he had been in a fight outside of school.
Was it a fight with one other kid or something that could have put him against an entire gang? It's not uncommon for kids in that much fear not to tell their parents of a problem but to try and handle it themselves thinking their parents may make the problem even worse. We really don't have enough details. We don't know if he was in a gang or not himself. As the Tigor said, he ran out of the room apologizing I'm sorry!! Sounds like he was some what desperate in the situation.
I am not condoning his decision at all to bring the gun to school, but trying to understand his position as he saw it may help with a remedy to some of the problems that cause kids to do this. There have been quite a few cases of kids bringing guns strictly for protection as they saw it in their minds. Some of the fighting in the schools is definitely a big part of the problem. About the only solution to that as of yet is the zero tolerance solution which does not seem to work because a lot of the time good kids end up being penalized while the real problem kids walk away laughing because they know how to use the system. The system needs to take more time figuring out the true cause of the problem and put the blame where it belongs. If they can do that you can eliminate good kids becoming this desperate and getting into trouble needlessly. While not a total cure at least it would properly address a big portion of the problem which could catch some of the gang action and bully action.
I raised 2 boys and saw first hand the problem of zero tolerance backfiring and leaving the wrong kids penalized. Not just my own but others which I knew the details of the fighting. Suspending good kids backed against a wall definitely makes them desperate. Desperation causes good kids to make bad decisions. The school systems need to address this as a start.
LOS ANGELES — A gun in a 10th-grader's backpack accidentally discharged when he dropped the bag, wounding two students Tuesday at a Los Angeles high school, officials said.
We're hearing about this because it happened at a school. We wouldn't have heard a thing about it if it had been 10 dead in a back alley after a crack deal gone bad. It's whatever can be sensationalized to sell a news paper or advertising. It also depends on the agenda of the writer, editor, or organization they work for.
Yeah, lets give all the students guns. That would make them all much safer. Make sure they are armed when they enter the building. If they don't have a gun, provide them with one. It's the only solution - for everyone to have a gun. Right?
True story. 10th grade chemsitry class we all brought in our guns and our parents guns and were instructed through the rebluing process. Kinda poked fun at the few kids that didnt have one. But they didnt come back to class angry and with a gun. They had to write a "theme" paper. My how times have changed.
Yes thats it.. I was also in a Gun Club in High School. I still know all of the people that were in that Gun Club. none of them have Used a Gun Illegally that i am aware of.. Guess Teaching kids at a Young Age how to properly use and Store a Weapon is Wrong.
The US HAS NO STRICT GUN LAWS ANYWHERE. There are 90 guns per every one hundred people in the US. Your gun culture is everywhere. If you want to see what real gun restrictions are go England.
Criminals will always have access to whatever they want regardless of laws. That's why they are criminals!
Most gun criminals don't become criminals until they use it. Up until then, they were perfectly in their right to own one.
I actually took my 22 and shotgun to high school and left them in principals office so we could go dove hunting after school..and this was in the late 80's...oh..how this country has lost its way..and it starts with all you people who want to take responsibility out of the equation..
So, you think people should still be able to take their shotgun to high school?
I am a liberal in California that owns guns, and I have many friends who are NRA instructors with CC permits. California is not as strict as you think.
But every time I hear someone preach about the value of guns, I ask to see their own gun. They never have it on them. So all their preaching is pointless because when a dangerous situation comes around, very few people are actually armed at that time (Arizona is the perfect example). And the very few that are armed never react fast enough.
What a moronic statement by Steven B. Three kids get shot and you joke about it? Maybe someday you can have a child and he or she will be a victim of a crime. Bet you won't be joking then idiot!!!
There is a huge difference between rifles/shotguns (which have a legitimate purpose of hunting and sport shooting trap and skeet) and handguns which are designed for shooting people.
This kid was toting a gun in a backpack. Loaded. Safety off. I used to be in a gun class at school, and this is NOT a legitimate reason or safe way to transport a gun.
We have 9 guns for every 10 people. This is not a failure of gun control so much as it wake up call to dramaticaly tighten gun control.
I think we'll find that this kid probably took his dad's gun to school. Dumb-ass dad keeps guns around the house unsecured for "protection" and the next thing you know they are out of the house, three kids shot, and an entire school unsettled. Good job on protecting yourself there dad....
Apparently not all parents keep their guns responsibly locked up, apparently not all young people are taught that a gun should never be taken off safety unless you are going to fire it. Apparently some gun "rights" people are sarcastic. Do you really believe this kid was a criminal or maybe he was just scared.
Good point to be remembered Gil. My old man told me, "I am your father, not your friend." This did not cause physcological damage to my libido, ego, superego, or self-esteem. Friends are a dime a dozen. You only have one father.
I'll say it again, Steven B is right on. Fully automatic weapons are not allowed in any state for any private citizen for any reason and yet there are so many that go out to any remote shooting area in the California desert and you will almost always find at least one being fired off. Know any cops? I do and a couple of them have fully automatic weapons.
And Rudy, I don't know what social group you belong to but your statement "Most gun criminals don't become criminals until they use it. Up until then, they were perfectly in their right to own one". Just isn't true! Most of the criminal types I know started with petty theft and minor alcohol and drug abuse at an early age in middle school then progressivly moved up.
Just because we have strong anti hard drug laws has never even slowed the easy availability for those who want it. You really think stronger anti gun laws will work any better?
Steven, in New Jersey, the anti-gun state, from 2000 to 2009, the population increased by 3% while the murder rate jumped 11% !!
Like Mister M said, "Some people just never get it." In China, where guns are totally outlawed, even the local police are not allowed to have them, but the criminals and the mafia certainly do...and they use them on whomever they wish.
Mister M - You are wrong. Owning a fully automatic weapon IS legal if you get the Federal License, ($200.00, last I checked). It is limited to 50 cal or less tho...
Law against guns was proven many years ago always increases the crime caused by them. The law does prevent protection by someone who will obey the law, but it increases the cost of getting one, which means higher profits and more are sold to those who feel safer to commit crimes if they have one.
The same function applies to drugs. If we abolished all the laws, yes a few will continue to be addicted and kill themselves. But the profits will drop so far that cartels will find another way to make money.
I cannot believe how little the obvious and proven are believed!
But this case was not the same. It was the result of stupidity.
if you believe the story about the gun going off and hitting two people you are not smart enough to own a gun. So liberals should turn in all their guns and they will be perfectly safe from accidental kills. of course they will still have to worry about people intentionally killing them and if they try and take guns away from conservatives they will have a reason to worry.
They do? So does NY, but you should see the individuals destroying each other over little things here. And we do have those annoying things at our school entrances.
AZPaddy: Your Huff. article was written on the day of the Giffords shooting when credible reporting went out the window. Regardless, it doesn't mention anything about a Tea Party member, so why inflame the situation with false accusations? Stop listening to Sheriff Dipstick and tune into the president's new mantra: "Civility."
AZPaddy: What are you talking about: "attack the source and not the info..." I read the article you posted (post #7.35); there was no mention of the Tea Party. Regarding the latter, you should take your own advice: Everytime you slur "Tea Baggers" you elevate their stature. Case in point: The November elections.
The November elections where Sharon 2nd. amendment remedies Angle, Christine I'm not a witch O'Donnell, The airheaded guy in Alaska, and other Tea Baggers were shown the door?
If the students come back and say they did for something they heard on tv then yes I would blame her. By the way if her map was so unoffensive and not to blame than why did she take down the map with cross hairs and names tied to them.
The targets of the Democratic National Committee have been on a map since 2004. Just took them down TWO days after Palin removed hers. And the there is the Democrat candidate who put cross hairs on the Picture of her opponent's face. Where was the outrage then? Oh yeah, it was a Democrat - that means it's ok.
I 'm pretty sure that these students, unlike some in this chat, don't hang on every word of S.P. They most likely barely know who she is.
Folks, let the politicians in D.C. make the hair-brain comments
Since the name of the gun owner has not even been released it pretty ridiculous to assume why the kid had a gun in the first place. So lets look at the possible reasons with out assuming any of them.
1. The kid is a gangster and it's his life style to have a gun.
2. The kid has been the target of bullying and is getting tired of it.
3. He/ she is a drug dealer who needs to protect him/herself.
4. Perhaps the gun belongs to his Dad and the kid was just showing it off.
5. There was going to be a prearranged fight after school and the kid wanted to be prepared.
6. The kid had plans to get pay back and he was gonna kill someone.
7. Maybe it was gonna be another Columbine but since the gun went off prematurely the plot was foiled.
8. Perhaps it was brought to school to be sold.
A little side note; There was a prearranged fight in my little city last week. A 15 year old stabbed to death the 17 year old that had been bullying him.
I am going to pray that all the families involved in this tragedy make it through these upcoming hard times.
If the students come back and say they did for something they heard on tv then yes I would blame her. By the way if her map was so unoffensive and not to blame than why did she take down the map with cross hairs and names tied to them.
What if he says "Obama said if they bring a knife we bring a gun?"
A little food for thought for all you lefties that think Palins map was sooo horrible.
9. The kid was frightened at the kind of school that he was required to go to and brought it as assurance that at least he might survive if he was armed.
I'm an anti-gun nut......what do you need? I also think Palin is a pimple on the azz of America (just thought I'd get that out there.......just in case)
I wish the "gun enthusists" would offer reasonable suggestions about reducing the deaths in the USA due to hand-guns. Our murder rate is 10 times that of Canada and the last time I was in Calagry I found a lot of hunters with high powered rifles. Handguns have but one purpose, to kill other humans.
How about enforcing the laws on the books? Instead of pot smokers in prison, save room for the low life's that attempt to kill people. Be it with a handgun, a baseball bat or tire iron...
We need harsh, mandatory sentancing guidelines that cannot be overturned by the 9th circuit.
Not that it will make any difference to someone like swamprat, but 97% of the murders committed with hand guns are done with illegally owned hand guns. Might also be interesting to know that in the history of the United States, there has never been a crime committed with a legally owned automatic rifle.
Sounds like the same way my neighbors rationalize things. Its not our fault they throw trash over the fence into your backyard, kids are just kids. What a bunch of scumbags.
OLDMAN > Is that a fact. I am guessing the illegal guns were legal at some point, how about locking them up for starters. Never in the history of the USA has a crime been committed by a legally owned "automatic rifle"? you can't be serious.
As there were no bans or (B)ATF yet...Bonnie and Clyde legally obtained, carried and used BARS, John Dillinger, Machine Gun Kelly, and Babyface Nelson were partial to Thompson Subs...these are facts. And no, I am not a gun grabber, however, as a former member of the NRA I recognize the thread-bare talking points when I hear them.
"I want to know where are all the gun carrying Americans are when we need them, hell, isn't this why your fighting for gun rights!
I Guess 2nd amendment is a — fail."
Fortydeuce, schools along with post offices, and court houses, are gun free zones! The law abiding are not allowed to protect themselves or others there.
Bonnie and Clyde legally obtained, carried and used BARS, John Dillinger, Machine Gun Kelly, and Babyface Nelson were partial to Thompson Subs
You're talking about a few people and many years of history, not a murder every 4 hours and not knowing if you'll ever see your kid again every morning when he goes to school.
Swamprat...a guillotine is made with the purpose only to kill a human, the electric chair was made with the purpose only to kill a human, a handgun like many tools can be used to kill a human. But it can also be used to scare away a predator rather than kill it. It can be used to humanely dispatch an animal that was injured(think deer hit by a car). And believe it or not...I have gone hunting with a pistol.
And now your telling me Ive been using it wrong all this time?
I wish the "gun enthusists" would offer reasonable suggestions about reducing the deaths in the USA due to hand-guns. Our murder rate is 10 times that of Canada and the last time I was in Calagry I found a lot of hunters with high powered rifles. Handguns have but one purpose, to kill other humans.
We do exist, its just hard to hear us over the nutters yelling about stockpiling for the coming war against the UN. Personally I think there are many steps we could take to reduce gun crime in America that would a very reasonable compromise.
For instance, we could allow civilians to use the NICS background check system for private sales. Currently, gun shops are the only places allowed to use that system. Why? I don't know.
We should also expand the amount of crimes that would prohibit you from passing a background check. Repeat DUI's, serious drug offences, and assault should definitely be on there.
We also need better communication between law enforcement, mental health institutions, and the NICS criminal background check system.
I personally own several handguns, but have no interest in killing people with them, or even keeping them for self defense. I own them because target shooting is a fun and challenging hobby, and handguns are especially fun and challenging. If I was convicted of a violent crime though, they certainly should be taken away from me.
I did a quick search cause I didn't think airports are "Gun Free Zones", turns out you can fly with your handgun.
"You must declare your gun by filling out the proper paperwork. The gun must be secured in a hard sided case and locked. It can be stored in your suitcase after that."
Guns become illegal when they are stolen, or purchased by a girlfriend and given to a convicted felon, or any other numerous ways.
According to the ATF and FBI, no crime has ever been committed by a legally owned automatic rifle. I know that hurts your anti-gun soul, but learn to accept the truth. It will set you free.
Why is everyone going on about the parenting issue? I'm just speculating that the Kid probably don't know who his daddy is and if momma works and does anything to support her family, she works two jobs. Basically this kid doesn't see a parent. The bad thing is that this is what America is coming to. Current trends according to the media is that the marriage is a thing of the past, and withou that commitment there is going to be lots of kids who don't know who their daddy is. Momma will therefore be on welfare or foodstamps or will work two jobs. The kid probably has learned everything he knows about life from playing Grand Theft Auto, or hangin' with the Crypts or VL's or whatever turf he stays in.
NPR was so giddy all over themselves because they were the first to hit the airwaves and the web with " Congresswoman Giffords shot dead" Ooops..."not quite dead yet" Ooops...But she will be soon...Oooops....she's getting better....
Somehow I doubt you're N.P.R. listeners. I listen daily if possible, and don't recall N.P.R. being the "first to hit the airwaves" that Gabrielle Giffords had died.
As for " its still sarahs fault.", I believe no one has said that - except Onepoker, but she does indeed have hardly clean hands when it comes to violence committed against Democratic politicians. The same dirt on her hands is the same dirt that Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity, Malkin and the rest of the bottom feeders of the right have on their hands, and they make millions selling the hate and fear to folks like you.
You seem surprised that a news organization would admit a mistake. I guess that you would, if you were a FOX news fan. Seeing how they lie on a daily basis, yet never retract anything.
Imagine...."NPR even admits it."!! LOL!!
So...during a very confusing morning of conflicting information, NPR radio erroniously reports the death of one of the shooting victims, and later in the day, reports they were wrong.
It will take a lot more than wishing NPR gone to get it done, Mike. They've faced funding shortages before, and their listeners will always step up to help them stay on the air. Even your "2nd. amendment remedies" won't do away with N.P.R.
N.P.R. sets the standard for journalistic ethics and investigation. We are lucky they're on the air.
Here's something from your link you've left out, ala FOX News:
"While NPR made a significant mistake that dinged its credibility, it should be commended for quickly apologizing and being transparent. Rather than hurting NPR’s credibility, taking responsibility for the mistake should enhance it.
Unfortunately, however, many people will remember the mistake and not the correction" END QUOTE
I believe that last sentence in the quote applies double for you.
I think most people knew who Swamprat was talking about, but thanks for proofing his post. The editor needs someone like you so they would not post tomorrows news, today...
Outlawing anything only keeps it out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Criminals will still have means to acquire such things illegally. You'd really accomplish nothing by outlawing handguns other than putting law abiding citizens at more risk.
JC-893726, the Mafia was/is a gang too. This is unfortunately what the poor do. Form gangs to do illegal activity with the thinking that they will get ahead. Not saying it is right. But Black and Latinos did not form the first gangs in this country.
Man, I just don't get it. Gardena is right down the street from me, it's really not that gang-infested. I don't know where all these comments of gangs in Gardena are coming from.
Yeah, lets make em use Muskets and Blunderbuses and spray shot in a wide pattern, maime and cause carnage to everything in their range. I have a better idea, lets ship all the gangbangers to Europe and Canada since they cant get guns there they will have to adapt. Yup, that will fix it!
Dam only if they had scanners and security guards at schools like they do at Airports there would not been a down airplane..I mean Students...But all the nuts are in Calf...So who cares about a wacked out state? Calf..Is a Big Joke..
I think that the only thing wacked out is your comment. These brainwashed right wing comments are getting to be a drag. It is a free country so rant on.
In the 1800's, my great-grandfather came to California to found a church on the coast. The family stayed and subsequent generations went into farming. Each generation has proudly served the country in the military. They are hard-working, responsible people. And you want to write us all off, as if our children being shot doesn't matter, by virtue of geography? So much for the "United" States. Your bigoted attitude is unhelpful, to say the least.
Careful what you say to Smead. Logic and reason do not work. He hates you calypso and that is all there is to it. Just pray you aren't there when he snaps.
He doesn't represent the United States in any way either. This is a great country with freedom for all. No matter how many names they call you, they are just names.
Look at the nukes hanging over your head...Moron...Education did this..You build to destroy each other..What Tim V did is a pimple compare to nukes..Or shall we say Nuclear, Biological, Chemical warfare..
How do gun laws work for the criminals? That doesn't make sense. The gun laws do not encourage murder....or do you know something that no one else knows? Stupid post....by another slanted lunatic trying desperately to have guns everywhere.
Here's how; They have them(being criminals they flaunt our laws, go figure). We dont have them or soon wont, whichever!?! so therefore, it could make me a victim to them (said Criminals). Example; If Im a criminal, and i live in lets say Arizona. I may think twice about a breaking and entering/Robery/ or Rape, if i believe everyone is armed. But in Cali I might think unarmed residence equals a jolly ole time. Is that helpful??? You simpering ninny.
stspecialk, aren't you a brilliant individual. Let's just go back in time and un-invent the firearm. Guns are available to criminals whether you want to believe it or not. Even if legetimate manufacturers stop producing them, there are still plenty available and organized crime would start manufacturing them if there isn't enough available. Just like illegal drugs, there is a market for illegal guns and someone will satisfy that demand just like criminals satisfy the demand for narcotics.
My motto for years has been "the only thing wrong with the school system is that other people have children there..."...i'm sure they say the same about mine too....
I don't blame you Wolf.....keep them out if you can!
Sure, good idea, keep your kids away from mine. Oh but when they can't assimilate to society don't blame anyone but yourself. Maybe if you teach your children respect and how to obey rules you won't have to worry. Keeping them home is no way to raise them as contributing members of society. If you don't like what is going on in your local schools you can always join the school board. Pulling away from society won't solve anything.
there's absolutely nothing wrong with homeschooling. The few teenagers I've met that were homeschooled were very well mannered and friendly. In fact I'd say they were better adjusted than the average highschool student.
Our public schools are horrible here and I would love to be able to take my kids out of them. However, I have to work and have neither the time or the ability to teach them all that they need to learn to be productive members of this society. I'd love it if the government got out of the business of teaching so that maybe our kids could learn some respect and discipline, actually I'd like the other students to learn these things as I have taught them to my own kids.
Maybe the problem lies in the fact that there are 3000 kids in 9th through 12th grade? At least one of the many problems of this story.
In all likelihood this child has no father at home, probably in jail for some drug offense. He (child) is probably in some gang and either needs the gun to appear tough, really is tough and planned on using the gun, or is scared that someone will hurt him if he isn't protected. Whatever the reason for having the gun, guns and the laws that govern them are not the problem. Parenting, overcrowded schools and teachers who are afraid to take control of the class because they are told they can't or simply don't care anymore, are the problems. Writing more laws will not solve this problem.
The 2nd Amendment doesn't give anyone the right to enter a school and shoot people. I am certain you know that, but are trying to pick a fight about what you think is a gross mistake in the Constitution.
Seeing as how it is Calif. it was probably a stolen gun. So, no, they were not excersizing their rights, they were breaking 3 or 4 laws(Possession of a gun on school grounds(Federal offense), Possession of a stolen gun(FO), Receiving or stealing property, and assault with a deadly weapon.)
He definitely broke several laws in acquiring this weapon. California has extremely strict drop safety tests, to insure that a firearm does not discharge when dropped. Nearly every single quality modern handgun will pass this test with flying colors. Hell I saw a test where a guy literally dropped a Glock out of an airplane. Not only did it not go off, but it didn't even break. If a gun doesn't pass the drop test, its banned in CA, so the origins of this weapon, or how he got are most definitely illegal.
Really people? We all noticed the date error and if you could read you would see the other 100 postings about it, but all that aside what's the big deal? I suppose you have never made a typo?
Well actually Israel had a terrible time with shootings and hostage situations in their schools. It's now stopped.
How you might wonder?
They armed the teachers and allowed the students to bring their guns to school.
In EVERY local that has allowed citizens to carry concealed weapons the crime rate has gone down.
Since Canada outlawed handguns the number of crimes committed with handguns has soared. Same in Great Britain. In fact, when crime rates are adjusted for population and reporting methodology both Canada and Great Britain have higher crime rates than the US.
Well if we are going to let kids carry guns to school at least teach them a few things like oh, I don't know, keep the safety on unless you intend to fire? That usually helps prevent accidental discharges. Stupid kid.
Would that be last Wednesday, or is this two paragraph article written by Nostradamus and foreshadowing tomorrows news? Today would be Tuesday not Wednesday.
Oh thank God; I thought my way-back machine had malfunctioned.
does anyone have tonight's Lotto numbers...?
I thought I was cracking up for a minute. I was absolutely sure today was Tuesday.
If this happened last Wednesday why is it breaking news?
I too had to double check my phone to find out if it was Wed. If it had been Wed. my boss would have been pissed, cuz I have a report due for him Wed morning.
Having the place and time beforehand should make this one preventable. We will see tomorrow.
This is precisely why you can't believe everything you read. The darn day of the week is wrong, Mr Editor. If the editor can't get that fact correct by just looking at his cell phone or on his/her computer then how professional is he/she at getting the other facts correct before sending it out to the world.
I had to check my comp to see the day because man if today was Wednesday I missed my son's basketball game last night
what's an editor? today's 'journalists' are interns who spend all day on facebook.
msn is circling the bowl. the only way they can get anyone to use bing is to con them by having fake headlines (the stories are real but you have to 1st go to bing to find them) filling half the news section.
People have been shot. Why all the joking and snarky comments just because the article says Wednesday instead of Tuesday?
Pathetic, 3 kids are shot and you concern yourself with a typo, which i am sure was obvious to everyone that today is not Wednesday, move along.
My thoughts too; maybe California has migrated to a 12hr time zone East!!
Hell, lets stop and have a national day of mourning
sniffle & 42, because most of us don't wet our pants over this sort of thing and we like a little thing called facts in our news. it's goes to credibility. speaking of, the number keeps changing, 1st it was 3, then 2, now back to 3. get with it msn!
PlutoIsAPlanet...I read your post after I posted mine...great take on the bookbag-Wednesday connection !!!
the article I read stated tuesday.
I was there and saw Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh push the kid before the gun went off.
No way, no how. Maybe they were shot at the same time the backpack was dropped but firing when dropped inside a backpack, and then hitting two people. Nope.
"Cynthia Cano, 15, said she was in a Mexican-American social studies class when an announcement was made that the school was in lockdown. "
What the hell is a Mexican-American social studies class?
It does seem very improbable, Test hamster.
Apparently it's a class where they inform the students that the Mexican-American War either did not happen or that the Mexicans won and; therefore, California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico still belong to Mexico. Oh, and that the Gladsen purchase did not happen either.
Brainwashing! They teach the kids that Mexico played an intricate role in modern culture and prosperity of America! Also, they raise the issue that Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Southern California really belongs to Mexico and was "stolen".
Geee, no howling for more guns laws!!?? You liberals are slipping!!
Lol, everytime I hear the term Mexican-American, I think about the Cheech and Chong song...
MSNBC today is Tuesday January 18th 2011. Just so you know!
LOL texas, mexican americans like their..........................................
The date isn't wrong. The story was just outsourced to a country with a different timezone, a timezone where it is now Wednesday :P
Bush sold the kid the gun.
American Dreams...."My question is: WHY did he have the gun with him?"
Detectives gave him some Michelle approved fruit juice and comfy chair to sit in. He's telling them everything.
It ain't my gun, it ain't my backpack and I don't know how it got in there....somebody musta put it in there......Case Closed.
MelBel..." I may almost be a blessing in disguise that the gun accidentally went off."
Except not so much of a blessing if your the kid that got shot in the head.
Q. Are you smarter than a fifth grader? A. Only if you have a more powerful weapon than he does!!!
If the Arizona legislature reacts the same way it did after the Tuscon murders, they will pass a law allowing kids to take guns to school.
This is headlines because it was accidental... It isn't news worthy for the intentional shootings because they happen every day here in the LA Basin...
Puddleduck what color is the sky on your planet?
just another punk wannabe gang banger with a gun. the military needs to go out and take out all the gangs so they cant influence children to become something worthless and dangerous.
It's no accident when a punk has a gun in a backpack at school.
It's an inevitability.
myownwords:
Exactly why we have the Right To Bear Arms. Just in case something like that happens.
Why make the military go through the pain and anguish of shooting American citizens. It's your hair-brained scheme....you do it!
I'm sure they would eventually find your body.
It was two students shot, not three.
I believe half of what I see, and NOTHING of what I read on the internet.
Virgil:
Thank you for a most interesting story. This is real life. None of us can ignore or put blinders on, and think that just because guns are banned, they will not reappear in someone elses hand; stolen---gangs, mass murderers, etc., know how to get the job done, just like the Extreme Terrorists.
People are capable of making their own personal guns. It is true. If not guns, it's grenades, small bombs, homemade weapons.
Pleased to hear from you.
Isn't that just normal behavior there?
Arnold's not gone for long and the whole place just goes to pot,oh yeah that didn't pass-nevermind!They need to simplify those 'no-guns' signs so school kids can understand them!
Third period drive-by training. Right after nutrition break.
There? Try everywhere. Get your head out of the sand. This is NOT a California thing....do you read the news?
"Third period drive-by training. Right after nutrition break"
LOL - that was good.
I guess this guy also had his head under a rock for the past 20 years or so too and has never heard of Columbine or Santana (just to name a couple)
You're thinking of Texas and Arizona...
Fascinating that from the news article's description, it seems that one would be required to carry a firearm to that school just to assure that you would get out alive.
If I had been required to go to that school, I would have stayed home and home schooled myself, refusing to go for fear of my life.
This is NOT a California thing
Thank you for that Kevin.
For middle America, Southern California may sound real far from Kansas but like the advertiser says, it's coming real soon to a neighborhood near you.
why doesn't someone call the Pima County Sheriff to ask him why this happened? No need to wait for facts or an investigation.
Without a doubt it's Palin's fault!!!! All the Libs on newsvine know that.
Yup, those "No Guns" signs and rules are doing wonders...
Hmm The Gun Free Zone sign should have worked WTF 8p
Sarah who?
She wouldn't last 30 seconds in the neighborhood around this school.
You are right John. After all we are talking the land of Maxine Waters, as well as all the other LA hoodlums, welfare mama's, gangs, and illegal aliens. In other words prime Democratic voting stock. I wouldn't last thirty seconds there either.
Who the heck would want to live in California period?!
I see LOL and the other dimwits are out in force today.
LOL at Jon,
"welfare mama's"
Is that something like Grizzly Mamas but with the emphasis on their welfare checks and not their children?
Navy : The problem with the "No Guns" signs is... that the kids can't read them in the first place.
LOL at Jon:
Great comments; just look at how many snarky replies you elicited from the "no-hateful rhetoric" libs!
ooohhh give it a rest already.
Navy Doc,
I hear the Marines are looking for a Few Good men. but its been Said they already have them. They are known as Navy Corpsmen...
Sounds like a plan to me.....
Crystall, you are from where?
Found this story on a small sub-link. Ten years ago this news item would be the lead story. It's frightening to think that as a society we are apparently becoming de-sensitized to this type of violence. Can't be a good sign. My thoughts and prayers to the victims of yet another senseless act.
Small Sub-link??? It's at the top of msnbc.com with a huge headline and photos.
I thought the same thing. It's a sublink for my MSN page too.
Susan - Since when is the accidental dropping of a backpack an act of violence? I guess this means that a death or injury caused by an auto accident is also an act of violence.
Yes, I feel bad for those affected, but emotions are NOT facts.
It is the top story the darn picture is a 6x10 with a headliner.
From the description of the school, carrying a firearm is a requirement for finishing school alive.
From the article
Wednesday morning? This is Tuesday...
the story was written from australia.
LOS ANGELES — A gun in a 10th-grader's backpack accidentally discharged when he dropped the bag, wounding two students Tuesday at a Los Angeles high school, officials said.
what is going on with the world??? People just feel they can kill others...argggg
People kill each other all the time. Now we just happen to have 24 hour news coverage of it all. You can taste the brain matter in high def.
Actually, people can kill others, not a thought, a fact. Not saying there isn't consequences for it.
Loulea,
"what is going on with the world??? People just feel they can kill others...argggg"
So why aren't you running around screaming about all the people killed in auto accidents. Same difference here.
"People just feel they can kill others..."
Someone wasnt' paying attention in History class?
We're hearing about this because it happened at a school. We wouldn't have heard a thing about it if it had been 10 dead in a back alley after a crack deal gone bad. It's whatever can be sensationalized to sell a news paper or advertising. It also depends on the agenda of the writer, editor, or organization they work for.
This can't be true.
California has very strict gun laws!
And you have to be 18 to get a gun (21 for handguns)!
Does this mean that criminals won't obey gun laws? That's crazy talk!
Yeah, lets give all the students guns. That would make them all much safer. Make sure they are armed when they enter the building. If they don't have a gun, provide them with one. It's the only solution - for everyone to have a gun. Right?
At one time high schools had rifle clubs.
Before your time, I'm quite sure.
But, I did enjoy the emotional, fact-less rhetoric!!
Well said Steven B.
Some people will never get it. Criminals will always have access to whatever they want regardless of laws. That's why they are criminals!
"Rifle Clubs"-"Street Gangs"....same thing.
True story. 10th grade chemsitry class we all brought in our guns and our parents guns and were instructed through the rebluing process. Kinda poked fun at the few kids that didnt have one. But they didnt come back to class angry and with a gun. They had to write a "theme" paper. My how times have changed.
Mikesac,,
Yes thats it.. I was also in a Gun Club in High School. I still know all of the people that were in that Gun Club. none of them have Used a Gun Illegally that i am aware of.. Guess Teaching kids at a Young Age how to properly use and Store a Weapon is Wrong.
"Rifle Clubs"-"Street Gangs"....same thing."
Wow...another koolaide drinking, non educated liberal who enjoys his freedom off the back and hard work of others.
The US HAS NO STRICT GUN LAWS ANYWHERE. There are 90 guns per every one hundred people in the US. Your gun culture is everywhere. If you want to see what real gun restrictions are go England.
Most gun criminals don't become criminals until they use it. Up until then, they were perfectly in their right to own one.
So, you think people should still be able to take their shotgun to high school?
Steven -
I am a liberal in California that owns guns, and I have many friends who are NRA instructors with CC permits.
Steven B. (post #7): Too right, and too funny!
"Does this mean that criminals won't obey gun laws? That's crazy talk!"
Actually, he probably will. People who think its funny when someone is shot don't become normal human beings just because they procreate.
If all the kids in the school were packing heat they'd all be safe.
It is limited to 50 cal or less tho...
so i take it the lesson YOU take from this is that if every student was armed, this wouldn't happen?? Unbelievable.....
It was the result of stupidity.
marvin
Its Being Reported by both the School and Police that this was an Accident.
Was it an Accident that the Gun was in the Backpack in the First Place
What was the Kids Intent of having it in the First place.?
ahahhaah thanks Steven for the laugh!
if you believe the story about the gun going off and hitting two people you are not smart enough to own a gun.
Nowhere in the states do we have strict gun laws.
If you are counting on laws to fix it ask Moses if it worked for his people.

The UK embarked on your UNARMED Utopia a decade or so ago. They are now registering long knives...
Unfortunately the UK has also become the MOST VIOLENT Modern Society in the World. see http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1196941/The-violent-country-Europe-Britain-worse-South-Africa-U-S.html
Liberals say that handing out guns is a bad move, it may promote violence. Handing out condoms however should be required.

". So liberals should turn in all their guns and they will be perfectly safe"
You mean safe from Tea Party activists who drop pistols from their pockets when they show up to yell at Gabrielle Giffords?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/10/gabrielle-giffords-town-h_n_255656.html
I guess it's just coincidence she gets shot by a total stranger later, huh?
AZPADDY - it's funny how you know nothing about the shooter. Keep trying, though.
Oh...attack the source, and not the info., huh?
OK. Here's another one. Make sure to read the comment from the person who was there re bussed in Tea Baggers, and their racial slurs.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x141332
As for your slur at Sheriff Dupnik, everytime you attack him. it elevates his stature.
AZPaddy: What are you talking about: "attack the source and not the info..."
I read the article you posted (post #7.35); there was no mention of the Tea Party. Regarding the latter, you should take your own advice: Everytime you slur "Tea Baggers" you elevate their stature. Case in point: The November elections.
MAS1997, you are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
The November elections where Sharon 2nd. amendment remedies Angle, Christine I'm not a witch O'Donnell, The airheaded guy in Alaska, and other Tea Baggers were shown the door?
That election??
It's all Justin Bieber's fault. He clearly incited it. Are we all going to be subjected to two weeks of anti-Bieber commentary?
Condolences to the families of the victims.
I hear water bottles work well as a repellent against the Bieber.
ROGLMFAO!!!!
Pulled that one out of the "Recent" archives....
They can be made in to great silencers, too.
Lloyd
I thought only street thugs and drug dealers knew that. I saw that on "The first 48".
How did you know that?
.
The New York Times is probably certain that someone kinda saw Sarah Palin either running or walking from the building - maybe.
May have been, they say the students are democrates.
maybe half are republicanes.
went4it-
Love it! I would say I'm an independente, but................
independents just aren't smart enough to pick a side. :)
onepoker
You did notice that went4it, and in return I, was using sarcasm for the "e" in "democrats" in the previous post, right?
3 students are shot. How long 'til the Lefties blame this on Sarah Palin?
its her fault tho
What an intelligent comment.
If the students come back and say they did for something they heard on tv then yes I would blame her. By the way if her map was so unoffensive and not to blame than why did she take down the map with cross hairs and names tied to them.
Why shouldn't they Dan-O-? I just seen two posts in a row poking and prodding them to do so. #9 and #10
If you don't want to hear it, why are you and others taunting the left?
If you want to debate or argue the merits or discredits of Sarah Palin, then ask. Why make sarcastic gestures to reach the same end?
or she'll use it to get in the spot light... she doesn't give a crap about gun rights or the victims of idiots that use them to get revenge.
Agreed Dan-O. The libtards are truly mentally deficient.
Have a good day everybody
Michele W L

What if he says "Obama said if they bring a knife we bring a gun?"
A little food for thought for all you lefties that think Palins map was sooo horrible.

9. The kid was frightened at the kind of school that he was required to go to and brought it as assurance that at least he might survive if he was armed.
Where are the anti-gun nuts?
I'm an anti-gun nut......what do you need? I also think Palin is a pimple on the azz of America (just thought I'd get that out there.......just in case)
Scruples -
Have you had your hemorrhoids fixed?
I want to know where are all the gun carrying Americans are when we need them, hell, isn't this why your fighting for gun rights!
I Guess 2nd amendment is a — fail.
swamprat, how about we teach our children some morality for a change instead of making them politically correct?
Not that it will make any difference to someone like swamprat, but 97% of the murders committed with hand guns are done with illegally owned hand guns. Might also be interesting to know that in the history of the United States, there has never been a crime committed with a legally owned automatic rifle.
Of course, facts mean nothing to some people.
You Fail.
You're talking about a few people and many years of history, not a murder every 4 hours and not knowing if you'll ever see your kid again every morning when he goes to school.
Get real.
The Nasty Swamprat,
"I wish the "gun enthusists" would offer reasonable suggestions about reducing the deaths in the USA due to hand-guns."
I got one. Require all kids 10 years old and up to take a mandatory gun safety and proper handling and use class for an entire semester.
O, I fail ok Marthos, don't forget airports. Bush passed that by the way ( gun free zones)
Wow, you guys are out there.
Yup and airports, keep forgetting that one cause I don't like to fly.
Thanks!
My suggestion - move to Canada, I hear it's nice this time of year.
Talk about breaking news... it doesn't even happen until tomorrow morning!
rofl!
That is how good these news services have become. Impressive.
Do not read my comment until tomorrow.
NPR was so giddy all over themselves because they were the first to hit the airwaves and the web with " Congresswoman Giffords shot dead" Ooops..."not quite dead yet" Ooops...But she will be soon...Oooops....she's getting better....
but its still sarahs fault.
Mike in Delrey/Onepoker
AZPADDY...The big red headline banner on MSN read
" NPR reports Congresswoman Giffords DEAD"
I had the TV on at the time....I scanned the news channels....nothing for about 5 more minutes. Then they were reporting " According to NPR ......."
So, yeah, after the Juan Williams Debacle, NPR was desperate to Look relevant in light of their funding being in jeopardy...
Update for AZPADDY.... NPR even admits it.
http://www.npr.org/blogs/ombudsman/2011/01/11/132812196/nprs-giffords-mistake-re-learning-the-lesson-of-checking-sources
Mike in Delray
Mike in Delray
Here's something from your link you've left out, ala FOX News:
"While NPR made a significant mistake that dinged its credibility, it should be commended for quickly apologizing and being transparent. Rather than hurting NPR’s credibility, taking responsibility for the mistake should enhance it.
Unfortunately, however, many people will remember the mistake and not the correction" END QUOTE
I believe that last sentence in the quote applies double for you.
Big time gang bangers in Gardena. I would venture to guess that this is a gang related shooting, probably NS-13 Hispanic gang and a rival.
Time to abolish all firearms which were invented/developed after 1787. Flintlocks and muzzle loaders only folks.
Its MS-13 not NS
I think most people knew who Swamprat was talking about, but thanks for proofing his post. The editor needs someone like you so they would not post tomorrows news, today...
What happened to the good ol' days when mexicans carried only knives?
President Obama told them not to bring a knife to a gun fight.
Not dissing on the President, by the way...
I hope not. That jerk needs to be spoken of in a civil manner. Otherwise you'll be one of his enemies that needs to be "punished".
Outlawing anything only keeps it out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Criminals will still have means to acquire such things illegally. You'd really accomplish nothing by outlawing handguns other than putting law abiding citizens at more risk.
Oh my what a racsist comment,we all know blacks and latino's don't join gangs.
So let's give every citizen in the US machine guns!
JC-893726, the Mafia was/is a gang too. This is unfortunately what the poor do. Form gangs to do illegal activity with the thinking that they will get ahead. Not saying it is right. But Black and Latinos did not form the first gangs in this country.
let's do it. We need some population control.
Man, I just don't get it. Gardena is right down the street from me, it's really not that gang-infested. I don't know where all these comments of gangs in Gardena are coming from.
Nasty, I think it's more like PMS-13 since those gang bangers tend to act like a bunch of continuously menstruating teen age girls...
Why thanks Joe.I expect this from a inbred like you..
Joe B, Don't you mean freedom for all illegals? What happened to the freedom and rights of American citizens?
Smead - You've got all wrong! Conservatives are inbred, Liberals are the ones with superior breeding.*
*Caution, statement may contain sarcasm.
Southern CA stats:
1. 40% of all waterborn trade goes through our ports
2. 2nd largest producer of crude oil in the US
3. 65% of all winter vegetables
4. largest manufacturing center in the US
5. . . .
How can the shooting be happening on a Wednesday...when today is Tuesday?
I do hope that things work out though. Schools are a place everyone should feel safe at...not worry about being shot.
Haha this is where Education gets people..You learn how to destroy society..Want proof? Look at your Government...
Education? Read about Timothy McVeigh and you will get an exact copy of this guy Smead. Check it out on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_McVeigh
These lunatics are all around.
Joe...
Look at the nukes hanging over your head...Moron...Education did this..You build to destroy each other..What Tim V did is a pimple compare to nukes..Or shall we say Nuclear, Biological, Chemical warfare..
Wow. You actually sound like McVeigh word for word. I would suggest therapy....but you will say I am a moron for defying your genius.
How sad that CA's strict gun laws don't seem to work on but rather they work for criminals.
Poor kids and poor families---
Perhaps this won't happen since it seems to be "pre" news.
If you don't build them in the first place, then no one has them.
I agree with you... But... This is the human race. It will never happen. The only world peace this planet will have is when we're extinct.
stspecialk, aren't you a brilliant individual.
The credibility of "Breaking News" is not enhanced when the day is incorrect!
It's annoying how many typos and mistakes online news people make!
All too hurried to "break" the story. No time to check for errors.
Sort of like all of these posts that have spelling and grammatical mistakes. No time to check for errors I guess.
The main difference is that not one of the posters here work for a world wide media outlet.
Home schooling now seems appropriate...
I agree...
Yet another reason my 4 y.o. will never attend public school.
My motto for years has been "the only thing wrong with the school system is that other people have children there..."...i'm sure they say the same about mine too....
I don't blame you Wolf.....keep them out if you can!
Then in order for your children to get the complete public education experience, siblings will have to shoot one another.
Hey, the gunmen were only exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.....
The 2nd Amendment doesn't give anyone the right to enter a school and shoot people. I am certain you know that, but are trying to pick a fight about what you think is a gross mistake in the Constitution.
No, they were exercising their rights to be psychotic.
It says the guns went off by mistake in the back pack. Read the story!
If you can't shoot anyone, then what good is the 2nd Amendment?
He definitely broke several laws in acquiring this weapon. California has extremely strict drop safety tests, to insure that a firearm does not discharge when dropped. Nearly every single quality modern handgun will pass this test with flying colors. Hell I saw a test where a guy literally dropped a Glock out of an airplane. Not only did it not go off, but it didn't even break. If a gun doesn't pass the drop test, its banned in CA, so the origins of this weapon, or how he got are most definitely illegal.
Accidential discharge after the weapon was dropped?
It wasn`t Ca approved, it didn`t pass the drop test.
They must have a typo. Today is Tuesday
Another reason school sucks!
I thought the gunman shot students? Like....he was against school.
Re: the Wed. vs Tue., perhaps MSNBC knows something that we don't...
I think you, Alfreen and I are the only ones who noticed. Just don't send your kids to school tomorrow and they'll be all right.
Back to the future part 4..
Really people? We all noticed the date error and if you could read you would see the other 100 postings about it, but all that aside what's the big deal? I suppose you have never made a typo?
if we armed all the high school students something like this would never happen.
Ha. I am laughing....and then thinking that some lunatics will think that is really a good idea.
I am waiting for the liberal left to say this event was somehow Palin's fault!! They have the "blame game" down pat...
They already have in one of the first stupid remarks made here.
Well if we are going to let kids carry guns to school at least teach them a few things like oh, I don't know, keep the safety on unless you intend to fire? That usually helps prevent accidental discharges. Stupid kid.
And not keeping a round in the firing chamber.
If we all handed out condoms.... uuhhhh, nevermind.
Wow, I just looked that Israeli thing up, it is reported as a very large success. Terrorist attacks against schools have nearly stopped completely.
Why didn't they just put up 'No Guns' signs around the school?
Today is Tuesday, how could it have happen Wednesday?
