As an American citizen I am sorely displeased with our US policies in such a case. I believe that diplomats (especially if they are from nations that are not on our terorists list) should be treated with more courtesy and dignity. I really think that our governemnt is invading the priivacy of all the world in the name of security. There are far better ways to deal with security than body scanners and physical pat downs. In my travels to India and other nations I am treated with more respect than in my own country, USA. It is time we use our brains and our hearts and some good old common sense and stop being so paranoid about everybody. It is obvious who the terrrorists are and where they come from.... call it profiling.... if we get smart we can be a more civil nation.
The Indian Ambassador and Government of India (GOI) owes an apology to all the affected Non Resident Indians and Americans of Indian origin many times over!!! She was only patted down. But NRIs have lost their hard earned money and have not been able to attend family events including funerals due to the ridiculous requirements that GOI has come up with and the corrupt, incompetent and lazy consulate staff. The Indian Ambassador should be held directly accountable for causing so much loss and grief to the Indian community in USA.
I have heard stories where a US citizen visited India and had to go back within one week as his father died from a massive heart attack. Per new GOI regulations, “There should be a gap of at least 2 months between two separate visits to India on a Tourist visa.” He was harassed at the airport in India by immigration officials and they only allowed him to attend his father's funeral after extracting a bribe of 25000 Indian rupees. Such incidents are a national shame on India. These government officials create meaningless bureaucratic regulations and then use them to harass professional non resident Indians to extract bribe from them. In this case the Indian government officials showed complete lack of humanity.
The Indian officials are so corrupt that they need to be patted down twice. They cannot be trusted to uphold the responsibilities of their position.
I'm a white european, who speaks english and wears western style cloths so if I did travel to the U.S I don't think I would get a pat down, however being a forginer I have to ask this question. On the off chance I will get a pat down what is the normal response of Americans to this? I mean do i give the TSA guy money so he doesn't feel like I don't care? Or will he buy me lunch so I don't feel used?
So many cry babies about TSA doing their job (protecting your butts). These people do make flying safer. Sure its not perfect or the total answer. Also, why should we show "Diplomats" special consideration? Everyone goes thru the screening process or they do not fly!
You bleeding hearts do not understand that these terrorists are trying to kill us any way they can. Tsa should give those who object a travel packet with directions to the Bus, Train stations and cruise lines. I personally don't want them on any plane I am on!
Good to know TSA doesn't engage in profiling, lol. Seriously, though, those goons couldn't find their posteriors if they sat on both hands. Talk about lack of judgment and critical thinking skills; if US dignitaries of a certain type of rank or position are exempt from the groping, why not foreign dignitaries of equivalent rank or position?
Why do they regret patting down an ambassador and not a toddler? Maybe because a government can cause more trouble than a father?
The 4th Amendment is being trampled on every day...and they're looking in the wrong place. Try sending TSA agents to Dubai or Qatar and see how far you get with pat-downs, especially women in burqas. Nonetheless. how many attempted hijackers/bombers have boarded planes in the US since 9/11? None. Why is the TSA violating the rights of travelers in the US when the problems originate elsewhere?
If they're gonna trample our rights, why not start with profiling? Might as well stomp on as many "rights" as possible...ans stand a better chance of getting a bad guy.
When I next fly, I'll strip down to my sweat pants and nothing else. That otta give 'em something to pat down...a nearly naked, crippled old man.
What a shame that we in the USA treat diplomats from friendly nations in such a humiliating way! I sometimes marvel at the folly of our so called intelligent people. It is obvious to most ppeople in the world who the threats to the USA are. Everybody knows the nations that are our enemies... but our offiicials follow law blindly. I think every American dipomat, including our Senators and other governemnt officials should be treated in the same humiliating way in every nation. In my travels to India I have been treated with respect and shown dignity and I am not a diplomat.
So the U.S. "regrets" the pat down? Who gives a damn what the U.S. regrets? Isn't the pat down necessary for the security of the U.S. and its citizens? If the pat down isn't necessary, then stop the frickin things for everyone.
Once India is exempt, then every diplomat is exempt, and there goes the security factor. What a joke.
whether it is an ambassador or pm, security is essential so why make so much fuss - in india going to a shrine for the prayers , the security checks all devotee
The government is teaching you to accept what ever they want to do in the name of security. So, why has the TSA never caught a terrorist? The have been making life miserable for us for 9 years now, don’t you think that is enough?
The TSA has now been authorized to set up check points in many other places. Just wait coming to a public building near you soon.
you people make me laugh.......the majority of you complain just to complain. it is amazing. are you really that unhappy? take a walk, get some air, let go of your negativity or at least spare the rest of us. & smile for Christ' sake.
What ignorant comment on this page? Diplomats get exemptions all over the world. It is a part of reciprocal international agreements between governments. When was the last time one of Napolitano's goons caught someone? If they are going to profile, at least get it right - what Arab country wears a Sari? Can't even get that right.
Yes, the luaghter you hear is from the Middle East - they have won and know the high school(maybe) education agents is all the USA can offer for security!
Seriously. Until someone outside of the middle east hijacks, or blows up a plane can we get some profiling? Political correctness is going to kill us all.
I hope President Obama is finally "proud of his country" because I think this garbage is incredibly embarrassing to America. Maybe that's their intention.
US is not apologizing for anything, get a grip people. What US said is the standard non-apology, "We are sorry you feel offended(we couldn't help it that you are so thin skined and a pussy)" :P
Until someone who is Black, Asian, Hispanic, White or Purple decides they will fly a plane into a building let them pass the frisky TSA agent and let me through the damn line! I will take my chances.
If this law is intended for the safety of ALL, then ALL citizens -- whether ambassadors or not -- should be subject to the same protocol. Apologies be damned!!!

I've been patted down, and why is she any different than anybody else? They didn't regret patting me down!

That means the Obamas' diplomatic immunity will not prevent them from being felt up when entering other countries.
Why should diplomats get special treatment. As the story says they are subject to the same basic security procedures as regular passengers.......
My oh my.....I wonder how many "waivers" will be given for skirting the pat down ?
Mandated Universal Health Care Reform legislation with 222 companies, and counting, ring a bell ?
Why do they regret patting down an ambassador and not a toddler? Maybe because a government can cause more trouble than a father?

It has been said that he who sacrifices freedom for security has neither. This is a prime example of that. The terrorists have won.

If I, a US citizen gets singled out for a tsa grope does the state department regret that too?
Doubt it.

Okay Sheeple, time to get mad about this stuff.
I want to know if anyone has seen any Muslim at all .... any Muslim man, woman, or child... being patted down or having a full body scan.
you people make me laugh.......the majority of you complain just to complain. it is amazing. are you really that unhappy? take a walk, get some air, let go of your negativity or at least spare the rest of us. & smile for Christ' sake.
