There are two kinds of Christians. One by birth and one by faith. The former will follow the earthly trend such as your comments above. The latter will follow the Bible to the letter and truly believe what God tells them to do.

By law in my state we have to offer prisoners a variety of foods containing a total calorie content of 3000. That does not mean they need 3000 calories per day. It means it is available by means of salad bar, deserts, etc. We had one prisoner who succeeded in starving himself to death in a maximum security prison. He was always given his food tray, he returned his tray emptied, and kept losing weight. No one in charge took this to court to get an order to force feed him. He died. It made headlines and news shows. Lawsuits are still pending to my knowledge. Now if one prisoner died and it made such a stink when he chose not to eat how could we legally change any of their other rights. TV and cable are paid for by the prisoners. We as citizens do not pay for a penny of this. It keeps them busy, entertained, and in touch with the world. It kept them from fighting, assaulting staff, and sometimes kept them from pumping iron which makes them more of a danger to staff to subdue. Take a walk through a prison sometime. Most things are there for a purpose.

It certainly was interesting and most of the time fun. You develop a certain kind of sense of humor to survive the terrible things you see. Tours are given to the public on occasion, and given to college students in CJ, and upon request to those who have a career in law enforcement and corrections.

I went to the Home Depot and spent 20 minutes trying to find some quality drill bits MADE in AMERICA. After I found some, I went to the manager and suggested that he make an ailse for just products MADE in AMERICA. I told him that there are many people that would go to that aisle first to try and find what they want to purchase. In the US we have our TV programming censored, school systems have the right to censor books, local and state governments dictate what food ingredients are allowed, where to smoke, and what should be put into a "Happy Meal". Our laws are one sided, pot dealers get life and murderers get 25 years. We are told what to do and think by our politicians on a daily basis, but it is acceptable because we are Americans and this is American, the greatest country on Earth. While I agree with some of what you said, you also fail to acknowledge the other side of the coin. While it is true that Americans judge other countries and peoples based on their own beliefs and moral values, as well as what they see on tv and hear in the news, is it not also true that other nations and peoples do exactly the same thing in regards to America?

Having travelled extensively myself, I know that they do. I have had multiple conversations with people from other countries who are truly surprised that many of the things that they believed were true about America simply are not. China is just as guilty of a "superiority complex" as America is, if not more so. They've been around a lot longer than we have so they've had more time for it to become ingrained. Most, if not all, of the other nations of the world believe they are superior as well. That's just human nature.

As for the Chinese people having a much greater love and respect for their country than Americans do is only your opinion and has no basis in fact. To say that our current discord proves it is a false analogy. I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of Americans in this country love and respect it. To question one's government and the decisions they make is not the same as disliking or disrespecting your country.

Considering the fact that China's government IS more oppressive in regards to its control of its people, I would also find it difficult to believe that the Chinese people would not prefer it if their government allowed them the same freedoms there that Americans have here.

Actually you are one of the more objective persons in this vine who have been traveled abroad and know the mentality of other cultures. I found it amusing that some here have never even set their feet outside the US and opened their mouth as if they know everything about China with the pompous claim that "we are definitely holier than them" attitude. The fact is that when I traveled to China last year, I was humbled by their airports, highways, their transportation system in their major cities. Given this rate, in 10 years they will surpassing in basic infrastructures.

Unlike western people, Chinese civilizations were most in dynasties and ruled by kings and some of them are rather ruthless to say the least. They have thus developed a sense of compromise with the regime that rules them.

I don't know if China can really adopt the western style freedom and democracy, if they do, I am sure some unexpected hiccups may happen, just as we tried to graft our democracy in Iraq. Just imaging a country with 4 times the population any problems that we have will be magnified several times there.

Then they have to travel to other prisons to help out there because they cannot find enough psychs to work in the prison setting. It all stinks, and when they hang up they blame the officers who make their rounds and are expected to save them before they die.
