This cop definitely crossed the line and as a minimum should lose his badge. A cop can not just walk into a persons home and handcuff them unless that person represents a threat to the officer or others, which this kid obviously did not. It is a violation of the 4th amendment. The cop is guilty of, among other things, unlawful imprisonment. This crime is even more serious in that it was done, to use the legal term, 'under the color of authority'. This off duty cop put on his uniform and came into someone else's home with the sole purpose of terrorizing this teen. they are being charged with Underage Sex, not statutory rape. There is a huge difference. Second of all with the nature of this case, nither would see a stain on their record past the age of 18 without a Federal Supreme court order unless they were tried as adults. I can't tell from the article but I am willing to bet that the parents of both kids to be absent from their lives. Should have been able to prevent this situation had they developed better familiar relationships with their children. Even the cop is dealing with the situation, as best he can, after the fact. Parents should develop close relationships with their children in such a manner that they can discuss ANYTHING and EVERYTHING within a safe, close, friendly environment. Also most of your points are invalid, if a Drunk accidentally ran into you kids car, or the person was on the phone, Texting, messing with the radio. He is legally to blame, same with the underage sex charges(which both children were charged with) Any father is going to understand that the psyche of the situation, and apply himself at the boys age to the equation.

I know at 15 I was a horny little S*** I know most of my friends were horny little S***s as well. so it's not that much of a stretch to assume the boy instigated the act. Theres always the Extreme options, Encourage your daughter to be a lesbian, or only allow various forms of sodomy until she's married. When you take a gun to somebody's home " With paper work and a permit," so the right to bare arms and all that crap, doesn't mean anything. Look... last time I checked the whole scenario of a man coming on privet property(someones home) with a gun, without drawing the gun(holstered and on his side) with no authority is considered an intent to scare, even if the gun was in plain sight and if the person being confronted feels threatened or scared in anyway, It becomes a Felony and its IN ALL FIFTY STATES! Even if they invited him in, but they invited him in without knowing the intentions of him confronting the other individual. Noone does it b/c in the end without a police officer present it's X's word against Y's word and the person claiming to make the arrest is likely to get it thrown back at them as assault, you HAVE to have an officer involved. Yes, I will talk with her. I will also talk with her before she even starts dating b/c I do not believe that she should learn everything from the school, her "friends", or pop culture. I would prefer for her to abstain for as long as possible. But if not, use protection! I care about her safety first and foremost and she is not even born yet. I look at this from my perspective and what I went through when I was these kids' age. I lost my virginity at 13 b/c I thought that the guy and I were truly in love. If I could back, I would have never done that. After that, I dated 1 guy for 4 1/2 years (freshman year of high school through 1/2 of the freshman year of college) and we had sex---but then, we thought we would be together FOREVER (stupid teenage thought). Honestly, if my parents knew at that time (and we have talked about this since then), they would have stepped in and would have laid down the law---not necessarily by physical force, but maybe the guilt trip royale and the "think about what would happen if you did become pregnant or contact an STD."

I have had friends who have had kids while they attended high school and I know what they had to sacrifice in keeping the child and what anguish they went through when they decided to not keep the child. I even condoned a couple of them by way of, "what the hell were you thinking going to the party, getting drunk, sleeping with some random guy with no protection, waking up in a bath tub, and wondering why you are late!?!?!?"

Looking at this situation with the cop, the only thing that I see happening is that the actions that occurred will define these kids/the families. Kids have a hard enough time dealing with cliques and social issues and the parents will have a difficult time dealing with how their kids will handle how their children are dealing with the aftermath (if they truly care about their kids).

When the ability to punish our children was taken away the children took over. The ability to punish as we saw fit was ripped away because of a few abusive parents. Did the officer overextend his power? Yes, and the father of the boy also over reacted. The cop should have gone in plain clothes, the boys father should have asked the Cop to step outside and discuss the issue like men before he spoke to his son. But now we have two minors who will never live this down (as if high school wasn't hard enough) will be the constant talk of ignorant adults and a cop who could lose his job.

All over an issue as small as sex(which by the way I don't recall any description of the sexual acts so it might just be a case of Oral fixation) That as far as we know was consensual (if you'll recall the age of accountability used to be 13) did not lead to any STD's or the good ol' 10 month waddle. you guys do realize there is no registration for underage sex citations. These children are not going to be registered sexual offenders they will be slapped on the wrist, if they don't have the money to pay the fine they will get time added to Probation(if they get that) and community service to pay for the trouble.

Sex with a minor is different than underage sex. Sex with minor implies one party was of/over age and the other was not. Last time I checked there was no minimum required age to have sex, only a minimum required age to beconsidered an adult as opposed to a minor. some states even wave this if you can prove the underage party has previously had sex with someone other than yourself. (ie: open Rape Case, Prostitution charges, baby, pregnancy etc) which make the issue a morally grey thing

I don't see any reason to charge either child as a sex offender. The only person in this whole thing I find offensive is the officer. while I'll admit many fathers are prone to act without thought when they find their daughter is having sex he still should not have ruined the childrens lives. Please note that I don't condone the laws I mentioned, I think there should still be some reasonablity within that law because the loophole would allow a person to mollest a extremely young person just because it had happened previously (loopholes in this case suck) but they also serve in certian cases server to protect people whom might be 18 and have a 16-17 year old GF/BF from being classed as a SO when they aren't much over the age themselves and the girl was in complete consent but her parents choose to pursue legal action.

I have four daughters and I have faced this situation in the past. When it happened, it was my daughters failure that caused the act to occur. Boys can/will say all the things they like, it was up to my daughter to simply say no. She did not and I jumped on her not him (although I wanted to). My daughter ignored my teachings and the boy only did what she allowed and wanted him to do.

I agree, unfortunatly these days, there would be like 2 - 3 kids that really started the trouble on the bus, the driver wouldn't care and would punish everyone, including the quiet kids getting crap thrown at them by the 2 - 3 bad kids. They would show up on Saturday, but only 1 of the 2-3 bad kids would actually be there and would just spend the day harassing the same kids he was harassing on the bus.

So under your thinking, it would be entirely appropriate for the parents of the boy to go to the girls home scare her straight, and handcuff her against her will in her own home? I think the problem is that he was actually handcuffing/arresting the kid. If it was just a lecture, to both kids, this wouldn't have been a story.

@Jessica: How do you "know" all of the boys you dated wanted just one thing? How do you assume that this boys parents are "parents like these?" What does that mean, parents like what? There is no indication that the boys parents encouraged their sons behavior. With all of those kids having kids, that means that there are an equal amount of girls with "parents like that" relative to boys with parents like that. ugh such hypocrisy? seriously although you are bringing up good topics for conversation in your mini paragraph here it is all contradictory. "we have enough major issues in life to face than waste time calling names and chastising others." and yet your speach there was chastising everyone on here? granted you did make a few good remarks about issues america faces now but lets keep consistent with it. yes there are more serious problems to deal with but this minor incident links to one of those serious problems which is america's ever growing underage preggies. Just be thankful one cop decided he would stand up and make a difference even if only to two children.

Vegaswolf2000, I totally agree with you. Good points! Lotidex, I don't get what you're saying...the comments don't seem hypocritical to me or to be chastising anyone. I agree with you too, though, I think the cop (father) did the right thing! Heaven forbid you stand for something nowadays in regards to your kids, right? :) At least articles like this get us thinking.

wow, give me a break...thank goodness someone cares enough about their daughter to step in instead of dealing with pregnancy later. The boy can walk away from a baby, the girl not so much. Both kids are at fault and should be severely punished. They're not ignorant to what they're doing, but prefer to be disobedient and stupid. And if they have a child, who pays for raising it??? I bet you the parents will, if the boy's father doesn't blow all his money on a lawyer.

@Sokowa: You are right, they are not ignorant, they do know what they are doing. Girls know they can not walk away from a baby but are willingly having sex anyway. That is why the onus is on the girls to say no. There may be pressure, but it is still ultimately up to them to say no. That is why the cop/father failed in his attempt at stepping in. His attention was pointed at the boy who "did something" to his little girl's honor. His little girl did something to herself by not following his rules/advice. Girls must require themselves to behave honorably before someone can treat them with or uphold their honor. Both kids dishonored themselves by not listening to their parents and doing something they are not mentally equipped to handle yet.

That's exactly true and I also don't see why some can't get it. Ahh too much going on and everyone likes to claim their rights but no one is willing to take responsibility.This is legal that is illegal, this is constitutional that is unconstitutional- whats the matter with common sense. If someone does, he is tagged as illegal. I am tired and off now....
