He knew damn well how upsetting the location would be. I just returned from ground zero and New Yorkers do NOT want this mosque. There was graffiti all over the front of the building and chalk all over the sidewalk in front. Tourists are there to take pictures and they don’t agree with it either.

First of all the IMAM does not own the property. It is owned by SOHO Properties that is owned by Sharif el Gamal.

The Imam has only shown that extremist Muslims around the world are counting on this mosque being built at this particular spot and with the name the Cordoba house. What the Imam really should be calling for is a America house being built in Mecca or in any major city in a Muslim country. This house would show our beliefs in religious freedoms to the Muslims but you know what that will never happen because the people that tried to work on it would be massacred by the Muslims. I certainly wish the Egyptian real estate mogul, who by all estimates quadrupled his investment in the real estate at Ground Zero, would sell it to the highest bidder and it could be turned into a very pricey NYC parking lot!

While I believe the actions of the Florida pastor are way over the edge, and I'm not opposed to the building of a mosque (or any other house of worship at Ground Zero for that matter!), we've been warned that should both action(s) materialize, there will be reprisals --- or more aptly put, 'Hell to pay' for our warriors and Americans around the world.

As an American, we're allowed to speak freely. As an American, I will not be threatened with nuances or veiled threats that 'the other shoe is about to drop.' There are several things going on here specific to this Muslim Community Center, the Plan to burn the Koran, and the general threats of terrorism against Americans..

1). The Imam is not a stupid man...he knew that the plan to build this center so close to a site that represented a violent act by radical Muslims against the US (Which IMO constituted an act of war) would insight a negative view by all Americans. Although, technically, it is within his right to build this facility or any other for that matter anywhere in NYC or elsewhere. My criticism surrounds his intent. If you want to extend a hand of peace by the Muslim community to those Americans affected by 9/11, you don't do it in this manner. IMO, he's playing a game...On one hand, he knows what the response would be by building this center so close to Ground 0 and knowing this, he can have the Radical Muslim community to spin this to make a case for other Muslims that America hates Muslims.

2). Regarding the pastor who wants to burn the Koran. In this case it get's complicated. He is within his right, by the Constitution, to express his view towards the Muslim community. And the Muslim Community is within their right to protest his view...This is the fundamental right of every American. If was going to burn the Bible or Tora, I'm sure it would not have such an impact to National security. Whether its towards an individual or religion, it should not matter. There is no differentiator. IMO, this is not a case of religious persecution, just one man's view. I do not condone what is being proposed as his action can only provoke aggression against other Americans. This bigger issue is the threats being publicized by these Muslim groups are impacting our fundamental freedoms...There cannot be any deviation from our freedoms or it compromises the very reason for the Constitution.

3). Bottom line, there are radical groups, Muslim and others, around the world that want to go to war and are just looking for a reason to do so.

Sorry, that is just BS! I just returned from NYC and spent 2 days at ground zero and in front of the mosque. New Yorkers and visitors do NOT want the mosque! There was also an Australian News station there interviewing those who came to take pictures of the mosque.

There are over 8 million people living in NYC, plus the nearby population of Conneticut and Northern New Jersey who commute to our city everyday. The number of people actually down there protesting is so small in contrast to the Greater New York Metro area it wouldn't register on our radar if the media trucks were not there. Don't exaggerate.
