Before the religious nutjobs chime in, how about the Indians complaining as the New Settlers from England used bio-warfare and mass murder to kill them. How about the Mayans complaining as they were killed by the Spanish Christians. How about complaints about the Arabs complaining as it was the Jews who wanted the State of Israel as they forced out the Arabs who lived on that land for hundreds of years... The mosque should continue as planned. To date, almost 9 years after 9/11/01, NO one other than this muslim community has even suggested doing ANYTHING in memory of those who died on 9/11. It is planned as a cultural center to promote diverity and understanding amongst all different groups within their community as well as a mosque and a tribute to those who died in that heinous attack.
The actual 9/11 GZ site is just deep holes in the ground - forgotten by most Americans and with not even a task force to explore what to do to commemorate those who died and those who responded in the 9/11/01 attack on the USA.
So far, America has said they deserve NOTHING ... there are more important issues than dealing with or even discussing a memorial tribute to those dead and wounded from 9/11/01.
Well a group of Americans, the first Americans who even thought of it, are doing something. They dont need our permission, they dont need to move their site, but they do deserve our apologies for acting like selfish, irresponsible bigots in a country that takes pride in its cultural and religious diversity and until the past decade, was a shining example of freedom to the world.
We have set the example for Freedom and the concept of inalienable rights; we have set the example for educating ALL citizens, not just the elite; we have set the example for ingenuity and industry although we have tended to give that away this past decade or 2; we have set the standards for equality of women through the world and we have lead the world to achieve what alittle over 200 years ago was the unachievable. This is NOT the time to lead the world in hypocracy and bigotry, but to march forward as one nation, indivisible (regardless of our sibling squabbles) and undefeatable from enemies within as well as enemies without.
GARRISON-2010, it is all true. Hopefully one day you choose to read history books and learn about the past of America and that of other countries. You may be amazed how religion has been used as a very militant force to murder others. i realize some countries do not provide a good quality education from grades 1 to 12, so if you are over 19 years old you will continue to seek knowledge through various forms of learning.
How is this any different than the national day of prayer that you all protested, or cheered for the judge that said that it violated the separation of church and state.
This is an outrage, and will be a major part of the tidal wave of TEA coming to clean out Washington DC in November and then again in 2012, your radical Islamic president will only see on term.

Regardless of the religous freedoms in this country, this mosque and its planned site is a slap in the face to all that died in and around the twin towers on 9/11. Don't even try and tell me that the leaders of this mosque did not know the uproar this would casue. To me, it proves that they could care less about this country.
Imagine the uproar if we wanted to build a christian church in saudi arabia somewhere

Could it be possibly culture has evolved a tad for EVERYONE and now the American muslims, being assimilated more into western cultures than those muslims still in the Mid-East need to keep the religious portions of their culture while changing other aspects of it that those in the "old country" do not understand without explanation?

The level of non-intelligence exhibited by those opposing this community center (not "mosque at Ground Zero"; it's 2 blocks away and not visible from the site) is astounding. You're willing to trash constitutional freedom of religion and rational thought and cave in to the most fear-driven and hateful instincts of humanity. I hear no end to the squawking that 'we're a Christian nation here.' Great. We're Christians. Christians forgive. Christians love. Christians turn the other cheek, and decline to seek retribution even when they could. Christians are NOT PROVOKED to anger, even if that is the intent of their opponents. I agree that they have the right to build it there......but I question the logic behind it.....especially now with all of the uproar over it. Do they have the right to build it there? Yes. Should they expect some kind of repurcussion from it once it is up? Yes. I don't support that idea......but I find it highly likely that those voicing opposition now......some of them will likely take action later. That also makes me wonder if that is not exactly what they want. They gain the upper hand if someone that takes such insult to it.....does something to it.

Christians do all of those things too, Gary. I'm a prosecutor, I've charged lots of Christians with lots of crimes. BO did show his birth cert, and Hawaii said it was authentic. White House staff say the guy consults with Christian pastors frequently and prays daily. If you don't believe it, I've got lots of other ludicrous conspiracy theories I'm sure you'd be happy to believe. I don't like him either, I didn't vote for him, but harping on the birther and Muslim arguments is truly stupid, childish, and irrelevant.
Gary I don't buy it that he is a muslim either. With where his parents were on the political spectrum and brought him up to be....I would have to think if he is truly anything he is an athiest. Personally I think the whole Christian angle is a front......but it truly doesn't make any difference.

I am not a fan of obama. His domestic policy is ruinous at best. I am an independent who leans conservative. I didn't vote for obama last time......and I would vote the box "anybody other than obama" this time after seeing his plans in action.
I agree with the iman 100% and the greatest source of extremism comes from radical Islam. Until the majority of Muslim leaders and followers conclusively separate themselves from the nut jobs that want to impose a 5th century way of life the world, then the most dangerous source of extremism is right under this guys nose. Over and over again we have learned that mosques around the world are a breeding ground for extremists that want to impose their radical interpretation of Islam on the rest of the world and are committed to killing ANYONE that resist. Why should a reasonably intelligent person, i.e. not a liberal, believe that will not happen at this mosque under the guise of a community center?
The US Government is picking up all expenses for this assh&&&e to take the trip.Hillary C authorized payment to him as a salary of 16 Grand What Kick in the head to Us Taxpayers . He is to spread good will to all he sees. No way this trip is basicly a way to fund this mosque. Who is checking on what he says overseas? I hope that all of the construction companies and workers refuse to have anything to do with this place, and what ever company agrees to build it I hope it is the last thing they ever build.

If Islam truly is a religion of love, peace, and compassion, then why do they not show some of that compassion, by building the mosque in a place less sensitive to the victims, victims family and most of New York not to mention all of America.

The Constitution of the United States of America guarantees freedom of religion for all Americans. That is the beginning and the end of the debate. Everything else is just noise. Millions of Americans have sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution, so if you think that somehow you are going to be able to impose your will on someone else's freedom of religion, you are wrong. Don't believe that you are some part of a huge group of people, because you are not. The vast majority of Americans, the courts, the laws, the Congress and the President support the Constitution.
Where is the ACLu on this one? The Federal Government spending my tax dollars to promote religious causes. If this was Bush sending Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell on an outreach mission the "Progressives" and the ACLU would have been in court the moment they heard about it. Why is this any different? I don't want my tax dollars being used to promote any religious causes. Let the religious people fund themselves. I prefer my tax dollars to be used for creating private sector jobs, not religious outreach by a controversial Imam or Christian preracher with an agenda to promote.

To try and compare it the the Church at the site is an insult, the Church has not been repaired even though the funds are the to repair it because the Leftest have keep it stopped through dirty tactics.
