Although I totally agree that Castro should be discussing Cuba's internal problems rather than nuclear war, I agree with him as to the probability of Israel starting a nuclear attack. I also agree with him that it's pretty much up to president Obama to prevent such a tragedy from happening. Like always Castro skirts the issues that are important to his country.
What he needs to address is the devastating effects of his dictatorship,
which has ruined a beautiful country in multiple ways.Since taking power
there is no freedom of speech ,no free enterprise,lack of daily needs( ie. food).
He has made slaves of the people of his country and directly because of his actions
thousands have been killed.Still after 51 yrs the world does not seem to realize this.
Castro suffers from a bad case of "paranoia". On top of that, he clearly thinks he will be listened to by Obama. Neither Obama or anyone else in the world takes his words seriously, not because he is old, but because he is nuts. Even Chavez gets more attention in the world than he does.
The worst thing is that it seems that no one in the Cuban govt. has the guts to tell him to sit down and shut up.
Cuba is a mess and Castro should be addressing their problems. My take is that Castro is senile. No one is going to start a nuclear war. And who is going to nuke us and for what reason?
god bless fidel and the cuban people. i wish that he could live another 100 years to help his people and the people of africa, caribbean and the americas. he has lived as a good christian should-- helping to educate children, and offering health care to all.( there are cuban doctors,nurses and educators, throught those areas). , instead of killing as many people in the world like the USA does. there are U.S. students going to medical school in cuba now at no cost because the USA would prefer to send them somewhere to kill people rather then finance their medical education.

As an American that fled Cuba, my opinion is that you are extremely naive or just a plain Communist. Coreen, talk is cheap. If your conviction regarding Fidel Castro is so strong, no one is holding you back, move to Cuba. Get a taste of what living in Cuba under Castro really is. Given the chance, all cuban citizens would rush at the chance of escaping his oppresive regime. The United States is the best country in the world. Millions of people around the world benefit from the goodness and generosity of United States' citizens and this has been the case throughout our history. Peoples of other countries would literally die to enter this wonderful nation. Open your eye and look at our immigration mess. People are not trying to leave the U.S., they are dying to enter. There has never been and will never be a country like this where peoples of all races and walks of life can coexist in relative peace and harmony.
Hey Orestes, America is OK, but I have lived in other places namely EU and if possible I would prefer to live there! America has it's problems too, this is not Paradise, there are lots of poor people struggling to make ends meet and who do not have medical care and the government does not care. And Anrkist Michael Moore has said a lot of truth in his movie about healthcare. I know because I have seen both sides of the spectrum. But in the US we prefer to look the other way, football is more fun to watch then reality.

Far be it from my job to point this out, but as a loyal Communist Fidel Castro would be kinda ticked at you connecting him with God... Communists are atheists. Castro has set himself up as deity for Cuba for the last fifty tears...
As for taking such good care of his subjects, I don't think so. Maybe a cup of rice a day or whatever is good enough for you as long as you don't have to stress making actual decisions but for the rest of us real live adults that's not good enough.
Maybe fifty year old cars and shell homes with no services and few opportunities for cultural improvement are good enough for you, not so for the rest of us, okay?
And don't forget that there have been hundreds of thousands of 'Lucky' Cubans murdered by these fine humanitarians... Read something besides loonmedia like HuffPo and Move On crap and learn something new, okay?
All that said, there's nothing wrong with Cuba that couldn/t be fixed with the death of Castro, the end of Communist rule there and the introduction of capitalism... as it was prior to Castro's ascension to power all those years ago.
I do not know much about Cuba, how bad it is and so forth. But I have heard that you can go anyplace in the country and the people will not try to steal from you and that you have virtually complete personal safety. Like I say, I have heard this and do not know how true it is. But just maybe there are some good things happening there as well.
As for Castro, well, it is amazing that he has lasted through all the efforts to remove him from power, and most of the US figures that were involved in trying to do that have long since retired or kicked the bucket! He sure has staying power!
To me it is not a good sign at all that his brother is "chosen" to succeed him. Is he compentent simply because this is his brother? This very much signals a dictatorship type of government.
In our country, it is also not a good sign that Bushe was able to run for president and win, considering his father was president as well - and Bushe had "machine" support. Although I think President Bush Sr. was a fully competent president, and I supported his presidency in mind and spirit even though I did not agree with his the majority of his policies, Bushe was simply laughable.
While it is great to point the finger at other countries, it is also great to continue examing our own. We must make our democracy work. It will be made to work by electing competent people to office. If we expect "they" to take care of us - well, look at how "they" take good care of Cuba.

Obama inherited a really screwed up mess from Bush and said during his campaign to become president it could take years to make economy strong again and end the mess in iraq and afghanistan. he has been in office less than 2 years. Economy is starting to grow again and by the end of this month all combat troops will be out of iraq with the rest to follow within a yr. Taliban are actually losing in afghanistan. we are using lesson learned from Vietnam. Have patience and you will win.

Both parties have a hand in the economic distress we are experiencing!! None of the administration's policies have done more than put a band aid on the many issues left from years of pro-corporation/anti small business policies that administration of both parties have pursued!
As much as I don't have an issue with returning individual tax rates to Clinton levels, if that is done without tax relief for small businesses and small business owners, not only will the economy not grow, we will lapse into a full blown depression.
The reason there was economic growth during the Clinton era was a combination of reasonable tax policies with sensible business policies until late in his term. While Bush gave tax cuts it was offset with poor business policies that reward corporate and business debt and even failure not that previous administrations haven't just that "W" raised it to a fever pitch!!
Of course compared to the oppression the people of Cuba have experienced, our troubles are minor!!

How can you make such a statement? If Castro ishelping his people why are so many of them willing to die trying to leave that country? and yes not all of them are willing to make that 90 mile journey to the US on anything that floats. They will migrate to any country that will take them Peru, Colombia,Mexico,Panama, ect.

Well, first I don;t assume anybody is religious or not especially as it relates to thier political affiliations. I pay particular attention to those who have been close to death and or someone who is 80+ years old esp. if that person is concerned about humanity, global holocaust etc. Sure, I don't trust Castro's motives because of his past but I can cautiously share a concern for humanity, can't you? Honestly, I think Coreen is in another world. She doesn't know anything about Cuba, Fidel, or the Cuban people. I am also a Cuban-American here because of the Castro government. Fidel is a murderer, thief, paranoid, obsessed that Cuba is constantly going to be invaded by the U.S. (for 40 years now--no invasion yet), he doesn't care about his people at all. I have just seen some slides from the "real" Cuba that most American don't know about. They are deplorable slides about the real condion in Cuba. No food, no medicine, no real education, no proper housing, no human rights whatsoever. They throw in jail anyone for any reason, and if they don't have one they make one up. Conditions in hospitals were deplorable as depicted in these slides. Three dead mental health patients that were dead on a gurney because they had not been fed for a couple of weeks and were found dead. Patients in hospitals with roaches and flies all over them. Children crying. Mother's crying. The Cuban people don't like Fidel any better now. They are just to hungry, to tired, to disilusioned to fight. But Cubans have a resilient spirit. There is always hope that Cuba will become a democracy one day. If you think Fidel is so great, pack and move to Cuba and good luck to you. I am proud to be an American but here is where I am free. I may not have a lot of money but I have basic human rights and freedom. Fidel is not a Christian. Communists do not believe in God, don't you know, and certainly do not believe in a personal relationship with Christ. You must be crazy.

I do not like Fidel. I'm not a communist, nor even liberal in many views, but he is no fool and doesn't seem suffering from dementia. I think some of his warnings are valid. If North Korea were to attack South Korea, even with the limited nuclear arsenal it may posses. No one wants to envision that scenario...and where it may lead...(for instance the reactions or involvement of Japan or China) or the planning of what to do if it would occur (I'm sure there are plans)..as I said I don't like Fidel, but feel as though the warning may have merit. I've never really felt that nuclear world war would occur as a large scale surprise attack by major powers, but rather as an escalation and evolution of a regional conflict.

I can't believe all of those that have posted good things about Cuba. You need to go to Cuba, spend a year there, live in the real Cuba not the one that is portrayed to the tourists and the media. At the end of the year, living among the real Cuban people, tell me what you think of Castro's government. No one, I don't care how educated you are, can say anything about what is like living in Cuba unless you have experienced it first hand, like I have and all of my family has. Wear someone's elses shoes well and long before making comments about things you know nothing about. I totally agree with jasperark. He had a clear idea of what is living conditions under Cuba.

I challenge anyone who praises it's policies to explain why thousands of people every year risk their lives trying to get out by sailing in rafts to Florida, while risking engaging Cuban Patrol boats, American Coast guard, sharks, and the unpredictable weather off the Florida coast. Fidel Castro has murdered countless Cubans in his bloody rise and his reign. He is a crazy man who claims the U.S. is going to nuke Iran. As for Cuba's health care, you get sick and you die (unless you have connections with the rich or politicians), i certaintly hope that Americas new health care system works better...

Untold numbers of Cubans have defected here through the years. I'm curious of how many of those "defectees' may have been loyal Party Members sent by Castro to see what they can learn about USA's motives in world affairs? So contrary to what some of you think, I'm afraid more of the world will listen to Castro's paranoid ravings than you think. I don't agree with him nor admire him, but you are deluded if you think no one else will listen to what he has to say.
