Decriminalize certain drugs to kill the profit motive and gang warfare, and revamp welfare to stop paying people to breed children in to this type of squalor as an alternative "career". It's disgraceful all around from the animals that did the killing to the women who kept those children in that filth.

I didn't see that this is the home in which the children were raised. The article said that the victims were from Lantham, MD and their bodies were found in Riverdale, MD. I would like to think their home was not this bad but an environment nonetheless that the kids should not have been in in the first place. Just so sad for those 2 kids - who could do that! And no, I think animals are a much kinder species than we humans.
Perhaps a kidnapping? Maybe the police have it wrong. They call drug dealers killing addicts PSM's anyway, and don't do a whole lot of digging. Maybe the children involved will get them to look a bit deeper.
I feel so bad for the children who just wanted a mother's love and didn't know anything different. With that said she was a low life drug addicted breeder. Stop with the welfare payments and she would have had to get a real job to support her habit. I really doubt she was the dealer living in squalor, just another junkie welfare mom who doesn't even try to make a living just survives off of government supplement.

The government has been fighting a war on drugs since the 1930's. Just exactly how long is it going take for someone in the front office to figure out that a different approach might be in order? As long as there are huge profits to be made from substances people use, there are going to be tragic stories such as this one and the continuing story at our southern border. How much more of watching failed policies eat up tax dollars are Americans willing to tolerate?

America can't legalize drugs. Legalizing drugs would make the prisons look like ghost towns and cost hundreds of thousands of local State and Federal jobs; not to mention the lost revenue to Fed, State and Local governments who chase the 'made-up' drug 'problem.'
When was the last time that you heard about anyone holding-up a liquor store and demanding a bottle of vodka, rather than the money, for drugs? Before there are 'drug stores' someone will stick-up a medical marijuana facility and they will demand the pot, AND the money.

If the three branches of government were doing their jobs as laid-out in the Constitution, the Constitution that they have each sworn to uphold; while they do their best to tear it apart, there wouldn't be much wrong with the country.
Pretty obvious: In American government, quality, is not job one; and responsibility, and accountability is unheard of! And like money, that lack of lack of quality, responsibility and accountability has had a major trickle-down effect into the every-day lives of children and adults; at home, on the street, at school and in the workplace.
Always, the druggies come out. Everytime there is a story like this, they come out in droves, telling us we MUST legalize their poison crap.
In my small town, I can't find ANY young men, (not working), that aren't on drugs. And I won't allow druggies to drive my trucks.
And you shouldn't. As the first responsibility you have is too yourself, not getting sued so your family can eat. Then to the public, trying not to get us killed by one of your drivers. But there are some privacy issues, and the argument that you wouldn't have a problem with the guy that works great from 9-5 then drinks his paycheck. So the morality issue too. There are also some problems under the equal protection clause in some instances. AND, you have people working for you now that use, you just don't know it. Prescription medication is still 'drugs', regardless of how you try to parse it. So if they are using something that alters their personality, then you should fire them. Be on the lookout for any non-prescription decongestant, or anti-depressant, or anti-anxiety drug. The last little part is I know some great responsible capable women that drive a truck every day, perhaps you should give some of them a try.
So, you can buy drugs but not afford to feed your children, have a clean house, or have running water so your children can go to the bathroom in a toilet instead of containers? This is why some people shouldn't have children...

The article never said if it was their residence, just where they were found, and what do toilets and running water have to do with how a person turns out in life. Mike N-366459, Your idea will not work. If drugs are decriminalized, criminals will just turn to something else. Note that after prohibition organized crime expanded more into other things, like prostitution and gambling. And the drugs will still have to be paid for, so robbery and muggings will increase as more people do drugs (legally) but suffer the normal problems that accompany drug use including poor working habits, causing loss of jobs. Its a no win situation, which is why we should NEVER legalize drugs. There are too many repercussions and domino affects that accompany drug use. Best thing is to continue education on drugs and increase the work to slow down drugs entering the country. But as long as people remain stupid about drugs the problem will continue. Get our kids SMART about drugs and we could eventually reduce the demand. I know my kids will know about the dangers.
I think you mean Effects. But that is the other side of the leagalize argument; not that any of the points are really valid. I'm not going to go over all the points but it's safe to say that there are many valid, logical rebuttals to all the points made above. Let's take the drug dealers themselves. They collectively run the second largest single market in the world. Knowing that the people that run the gangs and cartels also partake in the product destroys any economic argument, i.e. drugs make you lazy and stupid, that you may proffer. In addition, you are so big on education, then treatment should be in your thesis too, yet, sadly it's not. Adequate treatment programs for abusers would change the map. But we don't talk about that. Glue isn't a bad product untill you start huffing it, should we outlaw glue, or treat huffers? Mostly the arguments you present above are little more than a crackpot uninformed opinion of the drug war in total, relating only to your small, and I mean miniscule, piece of the whole. I can demonstrate...when alcohol became legal; did gangs continue their criminal activity related ot alcohol? According to you ...no. And you are correct. They did not, they shifted. The reason you present such a flawed argument is that you are equating success against criminal behavior with the current law. There will always be criminal behavior; but that does not justify banging away at a failed policy, failed laws, and failed ideas just because you want to stop gangs. You say, well keep the laws, at least it gives us something to prosecute gang members FOR, but I say no; Make the right laws and prosecute anyone who violates them. It is bad enough the children had to live in squalor, but to have such young, innocent lives taken because of the parents drug problem is even worse. Ive read so many comments in these forums about how there should be a permit or license for breeding and I have come to completely agree. Yeah, it sounds harsh but how many situations like this could be avoided if parents were found to be 'fit' before they bring children into the world? I am 30, I waited until after I finished college to have a child, one child, and no matter how cold it sounds, realistically I had to consider the 'budget' for having a child. We are happy unlike most families who have exceeded their 'budget' Birth control is practically free in this country so there is no excuse for unplanned pregnancies. If you don't believe in contraceptives then you probably shouldn't be having sex until you can afford an 'accident'. Seriously, a Permit to Reproduce is a better idea than most people will admit.

Birth control costs less than one a time time dose of the illegal drugs they find the money to buy ..More than likely if they are receiving a welfare payment , they also receive a medical card, no excuse to have more than "1" accident they can't pay for , they could get birth control at NO cost!!!!

I would agree, as the current rules governing sec8 housing says that any member of the household convicted of a drug related offense, gets the whole family barred from assistance. The courts already ruled that there is no reasonable expectation of privacy for anyone recieving Gov. Assistance, so your idea could work or be a deterent. Birth control is another matter, that is controled by state reproductive rights laws. Another problem you have with your argument is that you obviously have no idea how the system works, or how the money flows from federal to state to local coffers or how its tagged and used. Read up on welfare wic and subsidized housing and get back to us with a good idea. We sure could use some well researched ideas, as most of what I read on message boards in doing my research is trash.
Actually, fyi, I was raised by a single parent on welfare, in section 8 housing between 0 to 18 years. My sister, who has 5 children, has pretty much feed them all their lives with WIC assistance. I qualified for such assistance when having my child but declined it since I am not one who actually needs the assistance. I am not propositioning a welfare reform full of my own ideas - merely adding my 2 cents to a conversation. Don't imply I need to research state assistance programs - I grew up on them and experience is so much more than just research.
