I'll make the first post......What, no Univ. of South Carolina in the top party schools? Cmon GameCocks. I loved that ranking as a student but now as a father of kids choosing colleges I don't want to se my kid's school on the list!!
Why would anyone want to glorify stupidity, substance abuse, and irresponsible behavior on our college campuses? No wonder we have become a second-rate nation. Who would want to hire any of them?
Over 20% of all student loans are in default right now and that number is expected to explode in the next 10 years as fall out from the recession were currently in. When I was in college three decades ago, I knew of many students who took out student loans in spite of their parents funding their education just so they could have 'party' money.
I have no doubt that the same abuses of the system is still happening today. However, instead of coming out with $10,000-$15,000 worth of debt in student loans, they are now coming out with $50,000-$100,000+ worth of debt in student loans. I have no problem with students having fun while their getting their degrees. I just hope it won't be at the taxpayers expense!
At UGA they have what is called the Hope Scholarship, it is given to any student coming out of a Georgia High School (ranked worst in the USA) with a 3.0. So these kids pay no tuition. They also have one of the worst grade inflation problems we have ever seen. These are upper class kids at UGA and they do nothing but party. All they have to do is squeak through to graduate and they will either get a job with daddies company, or get into Law or Medical School on a legacy program, it is shameful.
UGA also has a massive number of Chinese students here doing graduate work in the sciences, because they cannot get the kids from Georgia to go into any field were they actually have to do real work!
not by stereotypes- by the bragging of their grads; And i dunno- last time I checked The west coast had some pretty serious schools...I believe most of the potheads helped qualify the midwest.
hey MSU learn how to put a sentance together. The only thing MSU students have perfected is how to lose every big game in all of college sports...and then riot like morons. Way to go "proffesionals".
Very funny Captain - this same line was used many years ago in Playboy describing why the University of Wisconsin was not even listed but was the number one party school, professionals versus amateurs. At least come up with something original
...sounds like a little puke from Ann Arbor. Congrats at least on your Women's softball team now carrying all the weight regarding your athletics program.
"Since 2006 — when a student died of an overdose of alcohol, cocaine and heroin in his dorm room — university police have been hauling underage drinkers to jail rather than simply giving them a ticket. School administrators call a parents on the first offense and suspend a student for two semesters after the second alcohol violation."
That's how they handle underage drinking at the nation's "top party school" — yet another example of the failure of "get tough" policies. By trying for enforce these draconian remedies, they create a subculture of burying the behavior they are trying to discourage. The subculture makes the behavior appear much more cool, even as it becomes more difficult to detect.
I'm more curious how they can get away with calling someone's parents. If the student is over 18, do they have that right? I would think they do not...if I was 18,19, 20 and busted like this and they called my parents I would do what I could to sue. My parents wouldn't care but they need to realize that college students are adults and there is absolutely ZERO reason to call their parents. Ludicrous I tell you.....
So the kid dies of a cocaiane and heroine OD...i'm sure the alcohol really got him so they crack down on drinking? Ya know when you crack down on something it really makes kids not want to do it...
When the academic credentials are included, the University of Miami is among the top party schools. Their stringent academic standards of average GPA, SAT's and graduate salaries are among the top 20 universities in the U.S. but lesser institutions have more beer consumption!
Such stringent standards when you have idiots like Michael Irvin, Sean Taylor, Frank Gore etc. Especially after the ESPN 30 for 30 show. All the drug money that was handed out and the players doing robberies etc. Yah the my type of school.
"University of Georgia spokesman Tom Jackson said the list is not one the school wants to lead. He said he'd rather emphasize that the school made Princeton Review's top 50 "Best Values" list or the "Green Honor Roll" of the nation's top environmentally conscious campuses."
It is interesting that UGA spokesman doesn't want to be a top academic university but just a best values or environmentally conscious campus. Whatever happened to challenging the mind and learning? That is why young people should be going to college.
They never said they didn't want to be top in academics, obviously most schools strive to achieve better academics. They said they want to be known for their ranking on other achievements that have already been achieved.
Go Dawgs! Georgia just missed a top spot in Playboy Magazine's listing of top party schools back in the 1970's because Playboy categorized the school as a "24-Hour Nightclub."
Clearly Mitesh is one of the moron (big school, big moron pool) graduates, or at least a fan of, UF Gaytors. Sad, sad, inflated egos and delusional feelings of grandeur.
No slack....he was drunk when he applied....drunk when accepted ( along with the other drunks)....and stayed that way right through graduating ( assuming , of course)....so what does that tell you about how hard that is !
Clearly Mitesh is a moron when it takes timmy teabag 4 years to graduate with a degree in theology or was it parks and recreation. I think if you know what you were talking about you would find the FSU athletic program has 2 Rhodes scholarship winners within the last 4 years and FU has none at all. Also every doctor I have every meet who graduate from the med school was worthless and FU shands sucks. Biggest anti-American school next to UC.
Ohio university get's jobbed on again. Over the past 20 years Ohio University has been the most consistant party school in the Princeton ratings. If the amount of sex on campus were factored in I am sure Ohio University would rule. I can hope only the students this year try harder to achieve the number one spot. If they need any tutoring to achieve this goal I am available and can provide the skills and winning attitude to put them on top, Bromley Hall alum,...Steve Cross 73
uhhhhhh...no offense, but that would be the University of Wisconsin that contains the true professionals. We have been number one on this list for longer than anyone.
Ohio University is just going to have to work harder. We're No. 2 again. However, it must all be in the hometown names, UGA and OU are both in an Athens.
What a sad statement--so many great students suffering from this infamy.
Most of the students really work hard to get away from the party school image, but it hangs on like an albatross. When I graduated with a 3.98 GPA, all anyone could say was, "Wow, you all sure are bunch of drunks at OU." Job interviewers really looked down their noses at me, too. Although I didn't take part in the "party" school happenings, the onus of the title is still there. Who knew it would be such a negative thing?
Dawgs will out drink all of us until they can beat Florida and get to the SEC Championship. In my senior year UF was ranked #1 party school by Playboy and U of Houston as preseason football favorite, a year they both were scheduled to play each other in their season opener. John Reeves to Carlos Alvarez and the rest of the Gators beat Houston and then proceeded to live up to their well deserved party ranking. Frankly, Gators drink because life is wonderful, not because they are trying to forget how miserable their campus life actually is. :-)
1. Most of the faculty do not demand enough work from the students to keep them busy. By picking the right courses (from among a majority of 'right' courses), you can just attend 9 hours of class per week and stay drunk the rest of the time, and still stay in school. Grade inflation is incredible after the Hope scholarship program started (give them all 'B's and the tuition keeps rolling in).
2. There is a solid, unshakable pro-alcohol atmosphere in Athens, GA. It starts at the top - the local representative on the Board of Regents also owns one of the monopoly alcoholic beverage distributors for Athens (you will have to check Georgia alcohol laws to see how this crooked system actually works - you wont believe it).. He profits enormously from student drinking, and the university president owes him his job.
3. Downtown Athens has changed dramatically over the past ten years, becoming predominantly a continuous strip of sleazy bars, with a nighttime atmosphere similar to New Orleans. You might like that, but do you really want your children immersed in that atmosphere every night?
4. Although, as a previous comment pointed out, the local police love to bust the kids for underage drinking, they never, ever, bust the bars or bar owners for serving the kids in the first place. The police chief had this as a major priority when he was hired, but after busting half the bars in town someone yanked his chain, and there haven't been any charges for years now - it is well known throughout the state that Athens is wide open for underage drinking.
Just thought you might want some pointers to help your school reach the top....
I agree with waterdog49. Why glorify this? The subject line makes it sound like they're bragging about it. Like you said, no wonder we are a second rate nation. I would not hire anyone from UGA. All the folks saying, ' way to go' and 'we got robbed' are either unemployed or completely unaware of what's going on in this country. The poll could be completely fabricated as well. We know the media never makes up stories to sway the public. In a country where unemployment continues to be on the rise and Wall street & corporate america pretends that it's not, let's add this to your resume. Let us know how that works out for you.
When you say "I would not hire anyone from UGA" is probably based on you not making these decisions. And you truely do not know me and many of the other people commenting here. I really do not think you fully grasp the unemployment issues and who it is effecting. Many unemployed are college educated and been effected w layoffs from C-level to janitor. Much of the unemployed individuals counted in the +/- 10% we are seeing are people under educated or non-educated that worked in manf or like industries that fueled the hyper-consumerism the U.S. lived upon for a decade.
I graduated from a school often on this list and make comments (to myself when reading) similar to the ' way to go' and 'we got robbed' comments you mention. Guess what...I partied my but off and still have have a tech degree and worked in a tech field as a manager w/ over 150 employees that I hired on merit not by those what went to a school NOT on the 20 party list. Now I work in medical sales and make over $220K/year, always in the top 5 in the country, been Salesperson of the Year.....and still party w my friends at football tailgaiting, and BB get togethers with lots of alcohol. And give money back to my school for EDUCATION funds not sports.
My 16 y.o. son has Florida, UGA and other party schools on his 'wish list' and I hope he gets to go to one of them. His 3.2 GPA and repeat etterman in 2 sports won't hurt. If he does I'm sure he will get a good job from someone, unlike you, who job requirements are not getting the change correct and pushing the 'Super Size' meal!
SEC schools are considering putting a stop to intra-conference transfering. After years of research they have found that such transfers tend to lower the IQ average of both institutions.
Clearly parents need to go to the schools, or do some serious research before agreeing to pay tuition.
That or you need to raise responsible children. There's a difference between teaching your kids responsibility, and being so nosy and controlling that they go wild once they walk out the door for the next four years. The latter is easy to tdo, the former is not. The classical conditioning systems used by parents, religion and corporal punishment won't necessarily give you the former instead of the latter.
Poor Huey. I know it's hard being a left coast, tree-hugging hippy pothead, but you're just going to have to get used to it. There's no need for the jealousy.
Now Wifeee, a tree hugger, yes. Pot head. No. I am, however, in Chicago, where we know how to make elections come out just exactly the way we want them to. Just wait and see in 2012. Again. (Yes, I was a bit of a hippy. Oh, the stories I could tell.)
Please, none of your stories (they're are probably all lies)........ Certain individuals from Chicago who were elected via fraud are selling this country down the river!
No the Electoral Fraud you must be thinking about happened in 2000, when the Popular election and as it turned out the electoral college vote both went to GORE.

Work hard, play hard kids!! Life is soooo short!
A member of the UGA football team recently ran afoul of the law because he was unable to spell his own middle name.
Proud accomplishment for an institute of higher learning.
Why would anyone want to glorify stupidity, substance abuse, and irresponsible behavior on our college campuses? No wonder we have become a second-rate nation. Who would want to hire any of them?

What do you people know? Can't top MIT!!! These geeks get strung out on computers. Top that!!
Number 1 party school, eh? You can have it.
Alabama Crimson Tide: Thirteen college football national championships, including a follow-on championship this year to reach # 14.
All others are Number 2 or lower. Roll Tide!

"Fat, Drunk, and Stupid is no way to go through life, son."...Dean Vernon Wormer....Animal House
"They took the Bar...The whole FU%King Bar ...Bluto...Animal House
Maybe not, but it sure is a popular option, even so...
Speaking of Fat, Drunk and Stupid...where did Harvard Business School place?
Hey, I'm fat ,dumb and stupid, how come I missed out?
Michigan State was left off the list because it would unfair to include professionals on a list of amateurs.
Apparently fat, drunk and stupid is a way of life from the upper midwest down to the top of Florida! Good job- remind me to hire from the coasts...
well if ur gonna go with stereotypes you might as well say no west coast cause they're all potheads right?
Groan..that is SUCH an old joke! ;-)
not by stereotypes- by the bragging of their grads; And i dunno- last time I checked The west coast had some pretty serious schools...I believe most of the potheads helped qualify the midwest.

...sounds like a little puke from Ann Arbor. Congrats at least on your Women's softball team now carrying all the weight regarding your athletics program.
except Michigan State was #20.. so obviously not as great as you think.
GO STATE GO!!!!
Huh? What? youz college guys talk way over my head. Tweek, drink and be merry!
I like your attitude
Captain Knots
Michigan State was left off the list because it would unfair to include professionals on a list of amateurs.
Gee, never heard that douche line before.....what a tool.
Sewanee is in a league of its own. 14th with a 1600 enrollment, you do the math
I totally agree! I was frightened into total sobriety after watching Sewanee kids party!
Well they have to be #1 at something. They cant even spell dog properly. You know how you get a UGA grad off your front porch? Pay for the pizza.
awww, are you upset you cant run with the big dawgs?
Ok. Pizza joke funny.
If you have a car containing an Auburn wide receiver, linebacker, and a defensive back, who is driving the car?
A cop.
Poor thing must be jealous or something.
You know why the St. johns River runs north? Because Georgia SUCKS.
You know what a GATORS favorite Food is? DAWG!
No, the Saint John's river flows north because Florida BLOWS.

Hey so what? It's cheap to get admitted and they smoke alot of pot.
UGA needs to get rid of it's entire Administration they are horrible!
A Great read on the politics at UGA in "Behind the Hedges!"
Go Dawgs! Georgia just missed a top spot in Playboy Magazine's listing of top party schools back in the 1970's because Playboy categorized the school as a "24-Hour Nightclub."

sorry. But they can never top Florida State when they were number 1 and top 3 my years from 07-00
1907-2000?
Clearly no one tops Florida State in terms of graduating the most morons...

Disturbing.

What SEC school ranks # 1 in football players that get arrested?
Thursday night was the night even 35 years ago.
Dawgs will out drink all of us until they can beat Florida and get to the SEC Championship. Hey, you were there the same time I was...Sin City rules!!
Oh yeh! I sat in the stands, got knee crawling, commode hugging drunk. Crapped my pants and pee'd on a cheerleader. Top that!
Several good reasons for this signal honor:
1. Most of the faculty do not demand enough work from the students to keep them busy. By picking the right courses (from among a majority of 'right' courses), you can just attend 9 hours of class per week and stay drunk the rest of the time, and still stay in school.
