It's actually kind of funny when everybody is so afraid of fingerprinting! 35 years ago when I turned 21 was the first time that I was printed to do a backgrounf check to become a driving instructor. I was printed again a few years later to become a bonded driver for a large company. Later again I was printed when I became a dealer in Las Vegas and later again when I was a dealer at the Bicycle Club in Commerce. Guess what!!? The last law firm I worked for used a scan of your index finger which allowed you to enter the offices for security. I imagine more and more companies will go to this system (or an eye scan) as it is secure and there are very few ways to get around it. In time we will have a scan of most of the legal citizens in the US because of this trend, but the illegal aliens will not be on record so only they will be able to commit crimes such as identity theft. If we don't go to a system like this, I have to collectively ask: What are we thinking?

There are two different premises at work here. The immigration angle is to collect identifying data on the lawbreakers who come to the US outside of proper channels. This not only identifies repeat offenders but helps build a case against them if they're ever prosecuted.
Georgia's DOC is doing it to keep tabs on who comes to visit offenders and control who has access to the rapists, murderers, arsonists, and jaywalkers incarcerated there. It helps them keep track of who's visiting as well as giving them a chance to see if any suspects might be stupid enough to try to contact their friends on the inside. (That's a security measure designed to control the flow of contraband or instructions from imprisoned shot-callers to the outside.)

If congress enacted this law or what it is called why are the states/cities opting out and not using it. Is there a clause or something that says they can? What the hell is going on here and how long has this been on the books. I guess they wanted to keep it to themselves. The longer I live in this country, the more I cringe at all the stuff happening here! It is sad that any group out there would be against weeding out the criminals from our cities, but it is truly worrisome when law enforcement opposes this.

When I moved to this country, they took my fingerprints at JFK, handed me a green card and sent me on my way. Twenty some years later, my work required me to submit to a background check, drug screening and the feds fingerprinted me again. In all my years in this country, I never broke the law, so fingerprinting, showing my green card and proving my identity was no big deal!

I'm an immigrant, not a US citizen but a legal alien and have been working and paying my fair share of taxes since I got my Social Security card (about a month after I moved here) and never, ever claimed any gov't assistance of any kind - local, state or federal. For me, it's always been a matter of pride!

Another matter of pride was learning the language, being able to read it, write it and speak it properly! Why is it that I have to press 1 for English? Why do we have to have bilingual signs at Wal Mart, or anywhere for that matter? On second thought, why stop at spanish only? Why not make it easy for the Canadians and have these signs in French as well? How about Chinese? Or Polish, or German, or Swahili? Why are all these translations in Spanish only? Kind of unfair right? Or is it because all these other groups try hard to learn the language so they can get along? Hmmm...

And we should care about their complaint, someone give them a crying towel. If the Obama Administration has their way ICE will be providing Dance Lessons, Art Lessons and Bingo for the Little Darlings. Give Me A Break!!!!

If I commit a crime and am arrested, the department I'd be held in can run my fingerprints to check if I'm wanted for other crimes (from passing bad checks to murder), but someone who is here illegally does not get the same treatment? Regardless of whether being here illegally is a crime or not, without proper documentation (read: identification), how is anyone to know if the illegal immigrant in their custody is wanted for something worse than crossing a border and the minor infraction that got him/her arrested?

No state issued ID, multiple aliases, and a few different birthdays for a sngle person? I say run the prints and check to see what's out there, and if they're here illegally, ship them home to cause trouble there... until they cross again, that is.

That's what really gets me in all of this. The bill's already a federal law. AZ just adopted a copy of it on a state level. Immigration law is not working. The rules are in oppossition. It is not only pushing people in the US on the basis of "family" but letting the good workers out.

It is not a lie to say that every illegal's dream is to become legal. And I believe that a good person should be allowed to enter any part of this world, simply because the world is a human world, at least ideally.

If I am a good person comming to U.S. with the good intention to live and start a family and with the intention to follow any given US rules, the immigration laws will tell me right away that the only way to become legal is by finding a family relative, or an employer. Given that the potential employer does not speak my language, and I have no opportunity to work in U.S unless I come as a visitor, convince the employer to do my expensive paparwork, which cost thousands. My best hope, according to the great "Immigration laws" is to cross the border, get married with a legal person, but if it does not work, then I will have a child, wait until he is 21, and then, naturalize. No other forseable option. No wonder why we have this mess.

Maybe it is a dream to have an immigration system that simply is not based on family relatives, but in real intention of work or education. That way, only good people will be welcome to come to America as our ancestors did, in order to become Americans and have a better living.

The "Racial Profiling" phrase keeps coming up by those opposed to ENFORCING our laws. The cities, Towns and Villages that want to protect the illegal behavior of these illegal aliens. There was a term used by a Senator back in the 1950's. The term was "COMMUNIST". States rights do not include laws that supercede federal laws. If Arizona state government decides they do not support the war in Afghanistan, may they forbid their citizens from joining the U.S. Army? If Arizona state government decides the influx of homeless people from cold northern states (seeking a warmer climate) are an undue burden, can they demand a financial statement to enter their state borders? Of course not! That's why they can't have their own immigration laws despite the fact that our federal government has refused to enforce existing laws that threaten our society.

On the other hand, fingerprinting those arrested for criminal activity has been common practice for decades. This new federal program should be law across the land with no exceptions to assure no discrimination is possible. Mandatory fingerprinting for anything other than arrest, immigration or joining sensitive government organizations should be met with extreme caution. A government for the people and by the people serves the people, not the other way around.

Yet the sanctuary states are fine? Those states say they will not cooperate with the feds in assisting or finding illegals. They will not even ask. They will further help these people, who are breaking federal law, to get jobs. Yet these policies are not under attack. Why?

There is no good reason to challenge the Arizona law. Each State has the right to protect their citizens. Arizona is simply saying they will check on whether you are a legal citizen if the police stop you for violating a law - speeding for example. When I get pulled over I am asked for my Drivers license. Does that violate my constitutional rights? When my in-laws get pulled over they must show their green card - does that violate their rights? Why is it that illegal aliens are allowed to challenge any process that might disclose that they are illegal aliens? So they sneak into that county and because they did so we have to let them stay. I do not think so - send them back.

These laws can't distinguish between an American, a green card holder, and an undocumented person without first violating that person's rights and holding them to a different standard by asking for more ID than any one who does not resemble an illegal immigrant. Every state in the Union requires its residents to carry some form of ID, whether it be a state ID or driver's license. Usually that happens around age 16. State law for everyone, not just illegals or citizens. Okay?

Now, resident aliens are required by federal law to carry their alien IDs--their green cards--with them at all times. It's a condition of their immigration and there's nothing illegal or discriminatory about it. Asians, Africans, and Mexicans have to do it just the same as English, Russian, or German immigrants.

Police are allowed to stop you at any time and ask for ID. Links and explanations are found here. That's just a Terry stop and you're free to walk away if you like. (However, there's a catch. If you just refuse and walk off, you'll make the cop suspicious, giving him reasonable suspicion to believe something's up and the situation can deteriorate from there depending on how you act. This can lead to an arrest under Arizona's SB1070 if the cop has probable cause to bag you.)

However: Like most people, you haven't read SB1070. The cops can't question anyone's immigration status out of the blue. The suspects have to have first been stopped for something else, like a busted headlight or trespassing or something. Inquiry into immigration status follows only after that and only if the officer(s) have probable cause.

Bottom line: everyone has these same rules to follow, but nobody is held to any higher or lower standard due to ethnicity. I'm a citizen, born and raised. My wife's a legal alien. We both have to adhere to the laws and there's no discrimination there.

A drivers license or state ID is required for participating in age restricted or other official activities. You have to produce a driver's license in order to operate a motor vehicle, but that is to prove you know how. In most cases you aren't REQUIRED to carry ID, but you are strongly advised to do so. I don't think that a single intelligent American citizen doubts the harm to this nation from illegal Mexican aliens. Kick me, beat me or call me bad names. The "how" now required paying banditos hundreds or thousands of hard earned dollars to smuggle them across a guarded border that sometimes resulted in death by thirst or heat exhaustion.

The latest "when" is the turn of the 21st century. The "who" changes drastically. The banditos see ripe pickings. Drug smugglers and Mexican gangs cross our porous borders by the hundreds of thousands as they take over many communities with violence and crime. Our greed and selfishness that drove us to treat these hard working people as subhumans has come home to roost.

All of us know that we must take immediate action. The criminal American employers of illegal Mexican aliens fight us tooth and nail to keep their cheap labor. The politicians in their pockets feign concern as they do nothing but stall and place blame on each other. They even propose ridiculous solutions as fencing the entire border to buy time. We are all angry and fed up with years of our authorities stalling and refusing to solve this problem as they play politics with the issue. Carol -- This is the responsibility of the parents of the 19 year old. It is not America's fault that his/her parents didn't seek legal citizenship when they brought them here.
