The White House forces the lady out and the NAACP slams her all before Fox even runs the story. At least Beck did a fair analysis and said the lady did not deserve to be forced out.
Both the NAACP and our dear President has again shown their complete lack of leadership. Knee-jerk describes these clowns to a T.
Andrew is correct - this tape showed just how racist the NAACP crowd was - just listen to what they responded to, and how they responded. Truly disgusting.
Frankly, who gives a $hit??...Perhaps this is important for some pathetic individual who searches for racism in their every day life....
Just like any other individual who speaks publicly, they are subjected to a sub-standard press who possess no ethics...There fact and not truth approach to reporting is a clear example of this....
Lesson of the day: If Andrew Breitbart says something, it's a bald faced lie.
Funny, I would have said the lesson from this story is not make a judgement without knowing most of the facts and that generalizations are generally suspect.
If the people of this country don't come together as Americans as one, regardless of skin-color, we are doomed as a nation. Hating and blaming each other while our enemies laugh and plot our demise. When we all bleed, it's the color red.
Once again a Republican comes up with some off of the wall non truths to throw the country off of it's course of correcting itself. But, then again their is a number of lessons with this situation.
1. Check the facts before jumping to conclusions especially with sound bites.
2. Everyone makes mistakes.
3. People will skew the truth in order to get what they want.
4. THE BIGGEST LESSON - (Republicans will lie constantly to take this country and anyone it down)
Look at Bush, cheaney, Fox News, Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh (Totally out of touch with society and look to lead the mindless sheep) think before you become Republican because we all think that they think with their wallets and not their brains!!!!!
Funny, I would have said the lesson from this story is not make a judgement without knowing most of the facts and that generalizations are generally suspect.
well, that too. But if my lesson were learned first, this "story" wouldn't even be an issue because people would have ignored Breitbart.
I base my lesson on what we learned about Breitbart during the ACORN non-scandal...
lito315...Spare me the political rhetoric...this happens all the time with the press...so why is it when it happens to a person who happens to be a DEM it becomes a right wing conspiracy..
Your overreaching political attitude is a classic sign of the times which needs to cease ASAP..
why is it when it happens to a person who happens to be a DEM it becomes a right wing conspiracy..
I guess in this case it is because the right is so willing to make things up. And everybody else is eager to take what they say at face value. Not a lot of winners in this case. I do hope everyone is more careful taking anything they hear with a grain of salt until it is fact checked.
Being a Black person is racist. Being a white person is racist. Being an American is all you should be. Anytime something is prefaced by a color, it is useless to me. I have no wish to read "black authors" Or "white authors".
Gary-302710 "The White House forces the lady out and the NAACP slams her all before Fox even runs the story. At least Beck did a fair analysis and said the lady did not deserve to be forced out."
I didn't watch Beck, but I heard two other coverages by Fox, and they seemed to support the lady's position.
It seems that Fox was the only media that reported the issue in a "fair and balanced" way.
Perhaps the NAACP and White House should have watched Fox first before jumping to conclusions and "throwing her under the bus".
Uh, no. The right-wing problems with facts has become so prevalent that it is now detrimental to democracy. This is not hyperbole. In a democracy, the press is supposed to play the role of Watch Dog and to provide facts to citizens so they can be informed voters. Hate Radio, FAUX Noise and the assorted websites of that ilk are the greatest threat to this nation.
As for the conservative agenda, this is part and parcel. Republicans, and in particular Teabaggers are trying to protect the status quo. Look up the definition of "conservative." They fear and resist progress, thus the Party of No.
That includes being anti-civil rights, and not just in regard to race but gender. They don't want affirmative action even though women's pay has dropped back down to 64% of what men earn. No doubt this is worse for a black woman. They are anti-labor, anti-regulation of Big Business, anti-academia, and on and on. They are against the common people.
So the "elements" of racism among Teabaggers--some who admitted they wouldn't vote for Obama because he is black--does not refer to the use of the 'N' word or other obvious racist behavior. There are only white people at their protests. There aren't even tanned people there (unless Boehner decided to speak). Where are the Asians, Hispanics, Indians, etc.? Only a certain "element" of our society attends the Tea Party protests, and it is they who need to pause and contemplate why this is. The rest of us already know.

Both the NAACP and our dear President has again shown their complete lack of leadership. Knee-jerk describes these clowns to a T.
Damn if you don't, damn if you do. No matter what this administration do, you people will still criticize. I bet if the Obama Admistration did nothing, you will criticize for lack of leadership and being lax on punishment.
Same goes for the oil spill. Criticizing them for taking the time to evaluate the situation and waiting for the facts. (BTW BP were withholding facts). IF they jumped the guns on this one, they will be criticized for government hostile takeover on private company and knee-jerk reaction.
Good one, however, he didn't say anything. He showed a video clip of blacks at a NAACP meeting laughing on how a white person was discriminated against.
what is amazing to me is the redistribution of power that is going on because of the internet!!!| Now that everything is out in the open on line we as individuals are being provided with more power but, what seems to worry me (not at all really is the post by CT-dad!!!
Now this is my opinion: After my posting above I received an email from loanwolf that seems a little threatening as well as the email from CTdad!!!!
Now my question to the two of you is are you threatening me???? If so what is your wepon of choice??? I require no weapon that is my choice!!! I am 100% man & will be fair in the competition that you choose!!!!
write back and don't be afraid because if you can't say it in front of others then shut the H up!!!
Tired of silly....What is it about a word(s) that defines a person view...IMO actions speak much louder than any word(s) spoken...
This whole walking on rice paper attitude with minorities is truly pathetic and cowardly....Bottom line, if you tick me off, despite your color, I'm going to say something to you (as an individual ONLY) that gets your attention...
Pragmatic people (Those possessing common sense) deal with actions...Everyone else are nothing more than critics...
Good one, however, he didn't say anything. He showed a video clip of blacks at a NAACP meeting laughing on how a white person was discriminated against.
Your comment now Einstein?
Get a clue
no, he showed a snippet of a video taken out of context. Par for the course for Breitbart and Fox News. Or don't you remember the manufactured Acorn non-scandal?!?
Breitbart is a liar, plain and simple. He's so full of @!$%# his eyes are brown...
Look at how fast the black "leaders" reacted to hang the Duke Lacrosse players. Another white dude done been raping our sweet innocent sistah! So called "black leaders" like the poverty pimps Jesse Jackson are the Olympic Gold Medalists when it comes to jumping to concusion without the facts. I never ever saw any appology or restitution made to those poor white guys for the HELL they went through due to claim of rape and racism" In the end she turned out to be another low-life, sleaze-bag.
Black men like Bill Cosby gave a very in your face speech at Howard University in front of NCAAP leaders and other black leaders. He was raked over the coals for daring to speak the truth. Theodore Shaw, the lawyer for the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund, took the podium afterwards. He pointed out that most folks are not on welfare are not black. But he failed to mention that blacks whihc at the time were 11% of the US population have the largest precetnage of the population on welfare. He went as far as to lie to the assembed, left-wing, extremist audience that the problems of the black community weren't self-inflected and that directly conflicted with the truths Dr. Bill Cosby just spoke.
Harry Belafonte slammed then Secretary of State, Colin L. Powell. During a radio interview, Belafonte compared Powell with a "house slave"Colin Powell.
Posters like Jazzman are called everything but a Child of God by posters on Newsvine.
And it's a crying shame - their words are logical, humane and they put the words of Rev King into action - Judged a person by their character, not their skin. I'd be proud to have them as neighbors or family members anytime. I guess people are too lazy to learn the other person's character so they hit on the easiest thing to spot - the color of their skin.
Not sure what redistribution of power has to do with you getting a few nutjobs sending you an email is, but ok. You sound like the liberals who want to shutdown the Internet when it isn't a means to YOUR end.
Also lito315, you comment above that all republicans are sheep and think with their wallets and how we can't take it with us. You are correct, we can't. You have spend all the money, there is no more to take anywhere else.
Please don't call people sheep when you obviously are too busy sucking the teet of your welfare friendly president so hard his teet is bleeding. Give it a break.
The NAACP had the full tape all along, before they made any statements. Why didn't they view the tape before they called for Shirley's ouster? They look really stupid now, and just want to blame somebody for their foolishness. Besides, the fact that Shirley realized her mistake and deserves her job back, does not excuse the knowing laughter heard at the NAACP when she spoke of not wanting to help the white man, and doing just enough to not be reported. You can spin it any way you want, but that is the story that is news. The NAACP ends up looking really really bad - dare I say they have a double standard?
"I guess in this case it is because the right is so willing to make things up. And everybody else is eager to take what they say at face value."
And the Democrats aren't guilty of making things up? Get real! Talk about taking things at face value...what about all you Kool-Aid drinkers who believed that the current administration was going to be a "transparent" administration? One of the first things Obama did was prohibit access to the list of White House visitors. Then there was the hiring of multiple individuals - not just one - but multiple individuals to cabinet and other advisory posts who "forgot" to pay their federal income taxes. The list goes on and on. There is nothing that any Republican has done of which the Democrats are not equally guilty.
Its funny that according to some people, only democrats are allowed to make mistakes. Had this been a white person that would have been executed by now. No one would ever believe that the person had evolved over time
Blaming the victim is one of the most blatant form of racism. Period.
But calling the NAACP "racist" is nonsense. The NAACP has, and always has had, a large Caucasian membership. I am a southern white male and I was a member for around 20 years (until they got into their "wandering in the desert years" in the 1990's. The organization, for example has always received a huge amount of support from both Jewish and Catholic organizations since it was founded in the days when Jews and Catholics were the victims of discrimination similar to, but somewhat less than, African-Americans.
This accusation of racism fails two logic tests:
1) There is the "redhead" discrimination test. Discrimination, that is taking note of differences, is not bad, but rather a good thing. If you say, "That person was a redhead ..." it is just a way of identifying the person by a obvious characteristic and not something to fear. But if you say, "All redheads have fiery tempers" you have made a generalization that is both false and discriminatory in a bad way.
2) And it is okay to discriminate against certain groups. For example, bank robbers. There is only an insignificant number of people who would say that a bank taking anti-robbery steps such as installing cameras, is anti-bank robber discrimination.
3) The easy place to draw the ethical line is whether or not there is a victim. If the NAACP wants to advance an agenda of improving the lot of Blacks and other racial groups, that is not discriminatory since there is no victim. In this case Breitbart crossed the ethical line because he created a victim --- the white farmer and his wife --- where the lady had actually been doing the opposite and helping the same people.
Creating a victim where there is none leave Breitberg to be liable for both libel and slander charges along with civil "damaging the person and character" charges. And because he caused her resignation to be asked for, there are real damages. I'll bet that her e-mail is full of lawyers volunteering to take her case pro bono. This sounds like a major screw-up by the GOP satrap that will result in some serious comeuppance.
But, in my opinion, the public should be clamoring for Vilsack's resignation. I can forgive the NAACP for being duped. They are very unfocused at this point in time and kind of a chaotic leadership. But I cannot but believe that Sec. Vilsack would have the lack of grace and management ability to do something better than demand her resignation without credible evidence or her side of the story --- and by e-mail at that! For just being a dumbass alone, Vilsack should resign. But more because he saw this a racial issue and acted on it as a racial issue with no credible evidence, and his own personal assumptions betrayed his as a racist by action. And there is a world of difference in racism issues between writing something racist with no intent of action and actually having someone fired because of race. Racism is an ugly thing and clouds reason when it should not have.
"some who admitted they wouldn't vote for Obama because he is black"
and yet some wouldn't vote for mccain because he was white. you can't even tell me this wasn't true. i am a conservative going to an extremely liberal college. i made my decision of the president by WHAT the candidates said, and yet, on election night, i heard MULTIPLE people saying that they didn't pay attention to the candidates but the voted for Obama because he was black and they were tired of having white men run the country. so don't you dare say that white people wouldn't vote for Obama because he was black and not give the other side. truth is, the color of skin played a HUGE role in the election. i would like to ask every single person who voted if they really payed attention to the cadidates or simply checked a name because of the color of skin.
Patrick I can't even respond to your comment because it lacks substance and you are not stating your position. I do admit that I am wrong when I make generalizations about the entire party because I don't beleive all Republicans are like that. But, if I look at the Republican Party as a whole i stand strong on what I wrote previously!!!
I suspect your skin is too thin to participate on this site. If you think you can post a statement like 'all Republicans are liars' and every one will just nod their heads in agreement and marvel at your wisdom and wit, you need a big reality check. I, and the other regulars on this site, regularly take our lumps from those who disagree with us. It's called debate.....
Why do republicans feel the need to make stuff up in order to make their points?
Are their points not otherwise valid?
And they wonder why nobody but fanboys ever take them seriously?
This incident, or the ACORN thing, or the lookin at her azz thing, or "mistakenly" changing an R to a D - If y'all still take what they're feeding you at face value, well, then y'all must simply be OK with being used.
Can we venture a guess that 80-95% of right wing "snippets" are being shown out of context? But none of y'all EVER ask any questions? Why?
It's all just hear and obey and President Obama is the devil...
If the video is under 3 minutes, cuts into the guts of the matter and then cuts away, y'all better go searching for the other 27...or suffer further damage to y'alls credibility...
Why do republicans feel the need to make stuff up in order to make their points?
because often, without making stuff up, they don't even HAVE a point.
If you think you can post a statement like 'all Republicans are liars' and every one will just nod their heads in agreement and marvel at your wisdom and wit, you need a big reality check.
Well, if the Republican party and their mouthpiece (Fox News) want to dispel the notion that they are bald-faced liars then they should cast out the proven liars among them (in this case, Breitbart).
Instead they champion these folks, and as such, it is only safe to assume that they condone these lies. Therefore, generalization likes "Republicans are liars" catch on and have more truth to them than you'd care to admit.
CNN is going to show Ms Sherrod's speach in it's entirety. I realize there are those of you that will never publically change your mind, but at least keep an open mind as you listen.
Fair and Balanced? You have got to be kidding. This is the typical kind of deception in which the right wing nutcases who run Fox and the tea party movement, not to mention conservative talk radio, constantly engages: half truths, quoting comments entirely out of context, and blatant misrepresentation. All of it is designed to inflame the true believers. Wake up, sleepyheads! Don't you see that big money Republican dirty tricks are making fools of all of you? The GOP depends on this for election turnout in November.

this matter was turned into a firestorm by Faux News and no amount of wing-nut bull @!$%# can change that for anyone who isn't totally nuts.
here, i'll spell it out for the impaired. Faux wasn't looking for the full tape... just another obscure story to churn up more misinformation and lies.
Faux at it's best here folks!!
what comedy to watch all the wingers work overtime to rationalize their way out of this...
I'm a Democrat and I've go to say, wet your pants, turn red and twist yourselves into knots people, but don't try and tell me that I saw anything other that ugly racism on that video in it's most blatant unsophisticated form. Now you can let politics stand in the way of you being a decent person with sound judgment if you want to but I'm going to take the high road.
CrazyHorse, I am not twisting anything, but I think you are out of your mind if after watching as much as possible of the video, that you saw "ugly racism" on that video.
I just watched the first part and thought my mother, who is 7 years older than Ms. Sherrod, and also grew up picking cotton and dreaming of a better life. My mother grew up in California and not the deep south, but was orignally from Monroe, LA. My mother doesn't like to talk about why they left, and I won't do so here, but there is so much more to Ms Sherrod story then Faux News and Brietbart led everyone to believe. To have gone through what she did and a child, and credit God for teaching her that helping people goes beyond race, says so much for this woman as a person, and shows that the people at Faux News have no heart. No heart at all!
Andrew Brietbart. I may not be spelling the last name properly, but google will help you out. Look up this man and his tack ticks. Remember who he is, and call him out for being the scum that he so very clearly is!
It's nice to see that people are bending over backwards to hire this lady back, make excuses and all the other nonsense that's going on, yet if the shoe's on the other foot....banishment.
Racism is the true "trump card" of the NAACP and the media loves swimming around in it as the high profile "mouth pieces" that want their 5 minutes of air time and sound bytes.....
It would seem to me that the biggest racists on the planet today are people like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP, Obama and his henchmen as well as Obama himself and the "victims" of this racisism are white people....
On a whole though, it's a political tool....I don't believe it exists to the extent the media and liberals would have you believe, and I find it very interesting that the ones that are always in front of it have an agenda.
Keep one thing in mind liberal lemmings you can't legislate equality on any level and this "chaos" is on the same level as prayer in schools and abortion.......political nonsense and nothing anyone says on this board is going to make one iota of difference......nor is any legislation going to do anything but pave the way for more hand outs, more lawsuits and enable people to still not go find a job and take responsibility for their own lives......."blame slavery"! Or Blame Bush, either way it's both their faults!
Next, CNN is asserting that it was Bill O'Reilly who first pushed this story forward, after it was posted on Faux News.com. I am hoping, hoping that someone is going to be able to prove that Andrew Brietbart is a paid Faux News operative. Until then, it is time for the talking heads there to apologize to Shirley Sherrod. It is time!
Crazyhorse, you must not know what TRUE racism is. THE WOMEN HELPED THE FARMERS!
57chero, from your logic there would be thousands of white workers fired all over the Country everyday. If you think the days of institutionalized racism are gone, your nuts. THE WOMEN HELPED THE FARMERS, people filled with hate have THICK HEADS.
Zaphod, there's no such thing as balanced news anywhere. Regardless of political bias EVERY "news" website was running the same story yesterday: Fox, MSNBC, CNN, etc And just like the NAACP, The WH, every single one had thrown this lady under the bus. There is no such thing these days in the "have-to-know-it-now" environment of an investigated and accurately reported story. Sadly people believe everything they read as soon as a story surfaces. Nobody waits for both sides to appear before forming an opinion.
And all that said, I truly admire Ms Sherrod for being as cool, calm and collected as she has been. I honestly do not think I would react in the same fashion she has.
Before we shoot the MSM - Breitbart is not part of the MSM but a blogger. As his intent was to defame, Shirley, the NAACP, etc, need to sue the pants of this clown!!!!
CAN YOU ALL DROP THE SUBJECT OF WHO IS RACIST AND WHO IS NOT?
I doubt it... Did you see the tea bagger response to the allegation that they are tolerant of some of the racist and racism within their movement?
They do not challenge it factually... why? THEY KNOW IT IS TRUE!
Their reply is to edit videos to attack the NAACP as racist too! Which is noting more than the equivalent of a politician calling another politician a liar, and the response being to call the first politician a hypocrite!
I know I'm a liar, but so are you!
We know we are racist, but so are you!
that is all the hypocrite card is, in this scenario...
What's the difference bewteen Fox and Msnbc? They both have and agenda. One is right leaning and one is left leaning.I used to think that Fox was way to the right. Now I tend to think that the rest of the media is so far to the left that any thing close to the center seems way right. Why not listen to both and pull together the facts and form your own opinion? We are in trouble as a country. Our preisdent needs to listen to his own speches. He is preisdent of all Amercians.Listen to both sides and take ideas from both and make a educated decision.Stop driving wedges by party or race.
The Black man is falling from grace more often than most these days as much as the white man because when you start to abuse your power that is what happens. look at Tiger and many others.. you don't have to show off and tell your tales of what you COULD have done to a white man just keep those things to your self. NAACP and Sherrod are all guilty when you start behaving all proud after God has given you a blessing and a position of power dont abuse it. because those are the results. in God eyes there is no color just people so just do the right thing. these days everything is racist we are all guilty of racist one time or another and most use it to get ahead and then fall from grace anyway because you got it the wrong way. live and learn.
Andy is liar! This guy is exactlly what you'll get if you vote republican in Nov. He is working hard to divide us and keep us fighting for political gain.
Well patr-idiot there are black people in the tea party movement. Ever been to one? in fact one was beat up by union thugs who are not being prosecuted. so get the facts together commy your not and never will be a patriot only an idiot!
To Zaphod, bsbfankaren, Get The Point, Chris Eidam, DrowningGrover, and all of the rest of you libtards on this site. You must never watch Fox News or any of the Fox programs you all rant about. If you had you would know they make an honest effort to show both sides of a story.
Any news outlet that tolerates the likes of Alan Combs, Juan Williams, Kirsten Powers, John Podesta, James Carville, and Bob Beckel has to be called "fair and balanced". Of course, you probably have never heard of any of these people...since they are democratic strategists that are featured regularly on FOX. Do some research FFS!
By the way, Shirley Sherrod is the subject of a report right now on Fox, Tom Vilsack (Secretary of Agriculture) has offered her a job maybe not the same one, but she will be fine. Amazing! Vilsack is calling it a "teachable moment...
You must never watch Fox News or any of the Fox programs you all rant about. If you had you would know they make an honest effort to show both sides of a story.
See but therein lies the problem. Too many people these days want the news to conform to how they wish to interpret it. Too many couldn't care less about the truth as long as it endorses their viewpoint. Fox doesn't get a global pass on representing both sides. No USA news site does. That's why I tend to try and find articles from international reporters who don't have a dog in the fight.
I will readily admit I rarely watch Fox News and usually only do so when a story like the one surrounding Ms Sherrod breaks. And I do so usually to watch how they step all over their male appendages making fools of themselves. I will also readily admit that I was astonished yesterday to find that Fox News was indeed the only one I found that was actually cautioning for some reservation until all facts had been cleared up.
However, like I said, one good news report doesn't make up for their normal routine which is just as divisive as some of the liberal press reports.
Regardless of what Brietbart's intention with this video was it shows two things....
1) That someone who judges someone else on race can learn from their mistakes and grow as Ms. Sherrod did. She did not deserve to be singled out like she was.
2) You cannot deny that their is some form of racist element within the NAACP based on some of the audiences reaction to her statements. Like it or not, there are racist elements in that organization just as there are racist elements in the Tea Party.
Drowning Grover... You want to come on here day after day and berrate those that disagree with you. Our views and interpretations are our right and we have the right to express them, just like you have the right to express yours. That being said, however, I'm getting tired of reading your attacks and when you are called out you simply ignore it or deflect the subject. Fox news this morning was supporting her getting her job back for heaven's sake. As am I. However, you have faild to address what many on here are saying and that is the reactions of those in the crowd. While Brietbart's intent may have been to throw her under th bus, it also highlighted those in the crowd that have not learned to accept others based on race. That you cannot deny so please stop trying. This fact is clear regardless of if you watch 2 minutes of the speech or the entire thing!
She said "it is about white and black" but she also had her eyes opened to poor people. The quoted part is not past tense. It doesn't sound like she's entirely over her race issues, but is now at least aware of them, along with poor vs rich issues. You're not a racist when it's not about white and black.
Drowning Grover... You want to come on here day after day and berrate those that disagree with you.
I'm not the only one. Also, I'm not really berating anyone so much as calling Andrew Breitbart a liar (and with correct spelling and grammar to boot!)
I have conceded a fair number of arguments on this vine and I do try and listen/read others posts. But I will not stand for stupid, and will call out BS when I see it. I see no reason to play nice on the intertubes when faced with the slander and outright lies often used by the other side. Isn't anonymity great?
Fox news this morning was supporting her getting her job back for heaven's sake.
too late, damage done. Right out of the Acorn/Van Jones playbook. I'd cede you this point is we hadn't seen this script before.
However, you have faild to address what many on here are saying and that is the reactions of those in the crowd.
So what, small potatoes. When a community shares cultural and historical perspective with one another, I would expect them to react with empathy/support. Many of the people in that room have probably felt racism first hand (at least the older ones) and probably had the same gut, emotional response as Sherrod. It's not right, but I'm not shocked by it.
The bottomline however is that Sherrod made the proper moral choice and DID help the white farmer succeed. And I would hope the crowd also identified and supported that choice as well. Given their overall reaction to the speech, I think they did.
Seriously, has our political discourse devolved into "so-and-so gave a speech and the crowd clapped loudly here, but not somewhere else." It's a 42 minute speech, who really gives a damn about the 3 minute snippet Breitbart the snake picked out. The man is a proven liar.
This is Sotomayor "wise latina" all over again. We've seen this script before!
I am choosing you here for a reason, so please bear with me. I have now watched the Shirley Sherrod video in it's entirety, and watched the shortened version that was on Faux News, and there is something that stood out to me. I thought I was sure, but I waited until I heard someone else say it, because I became certain.
You said that the people "nodding" were racist on the video, yet the camera was focused on Ms. Sherrod, so you couldn't really see people in agreement, however you could hear people seemingly agreeing with the racist type of statement Ms. Sherrod made, when she stated that she did as little as possible for the White farmer, initially. However, when I watched the entire video on CNN, I didn't hear the same sort of agreement. I actually heard mostly silence as she recounted that portion of her story, although there were a few, a very few who seemingly understood what she was talking about.
Is there anyway, anyway at all, that perhaps the sound from another part of the video, the part where Ms Sherrod is talking about her father and his want for a son, could that have been cut and pasted to make it sound like there was some sort of big agreement in the room? Is it not possible that the cut and paste job was of the audio as well as the video?
Just wanted to put that out there as a possibility. This has actually taken more out of me today then I would have thought, especially since I am still waiting for Obama to stand up and clearly state that what happened to this woman, who's husband as it happens was a big part of the civil rights movement, was wrong and should never have happened. Saddly the longer it takes, the less likely it is to happen, and that truly bothers me.
You said that the people "nodding" were racist on the video, yet the camera was focused on Ms. Sherrod, so you couldn't really see people in agreement, however you could hear people seemingly agreeing with the racist type of statement Ms. Sherrod made, when she stated that she did as little as possible for the White far
That's not true. The camera panned the audience for a second. And even if I only heard the audience's agreement, kindly note that SOUND IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF A MOTION PICTURE.
Sound conveys emotion and creates atmopshere among other functions in a moving picture. Sound creates tension and helps seque between scenes. I can "hear" agreement. Audiences always have a murmur when a speaker is making a presentation.
I wrote my piece (posted on the first blog) right after watching that video and hearing Ms. Sherrod's interview on CNN. I am not going to watch the video again. I believe what I saw or heard. In fact, that nodding of the agreement is something that really hit me. It could be the expressions on the faces too.
As an explanation of what I'm trying to say - on my very first day in my very first "introductory" class to get my masters in tv/radio/film, our professor paused a videotape of the Today Show - then starring Bryant Gumbel. It was a freeze frame of Bryant Gumbel and he asked us what does the picture say. Of course, I understood immediately. I'm used to analyzing video.
Younger people often have no clue of what black people and other minorities have gone through. You do not have any right to judge her persona.
Her father was murdered by a white man and she lived in GEORGIA which is not exactly known for being racially tolerant. At least not like the eastern seaboard states.
A brave woman...she recognized the struggle she had when didn't do everything she could have done to help the white farmer. The end of the story is so empowering...The farmer's family defended her support that saved them.
FOX=="Full Of Xenophobes" and racists puppets and incendiary spit machine. The teabeggers and repugnites love to" lick" the ocean of spit they mixed with neocons excrements...
by the way...I'm veryyyy white, as color of skin...but I have a good functional brain, you "faux " addicts are missing...
bsbfankaren - because I happen to be watching the news, our evening news showed the video of Ms. Sherrod talking about her personal realization about race.
The frame of the video had the upper torso of many audience members.
I'm certain the video I first saw (the negative one) had at least their torsos too and heads are quite visible. In fact, the heads were facing Ms. Sherrod not my TV screen, but it does not mean I can not see their heads and the heads' actions.
lito315...WTF are you talking about...I sent no email...in fact, I'm blocked by a Security policy to access personal email account..
The irony with your statement is that YOU are lying...
I'm an IND and am tired of left and right BS....This is simply a story that exhibits our media's inability of distinguishing truth from fact...The media are the King of half-truths...That's my point..
I've been posting on this board for several years and never changed my screen name. For those of you who've been posting some time, you know this to be true....
It's pathetic that you would lie to attempt to minimize my view...This is a board to express your views, as mature adults, and not to use it as a platform for personal attacks...
To Zaphod, bsbfankaren, Get The Point, Chris Eidam, DrowningGrover, and all of the rest of you libtards on this site. You must never watch Fox News or any of the Fox programs you all rant about. If you had you would know they make an honest effort to show both sides of a story.
Name calling... Impressive.
Since you included me, I'll respond! Now why would you call names, and not bother to show what I've said to be inaccurate, or wrong, and anyway?
WHY would you be MAD enough to stoop to name calling, and never even offer a factual challenge to anything I've said?
Could it be you do not have a factual challenge to offer? Wouldn't that mean you know what I've said is... THE TRUTH!? Why would my speaking the truth, make you mad enough to call me a name? I've heard that TRUTH is biased against the liars, is that why it makes you mad enough to call names like a 4th grader on a school playground?
Any news outlet that tolerates the likes of Alan Combs, Juan Williams, Kirsten Powers, John Podesta, James Carville, and Bob Beckel has to be called "fair and balanced". Of course, you probably have never heard of any of these people...since they are democratic strategists that are featured regularly on FOX. Do some research FFS!
There is an insult, tossed on top of assumptions. Is that what passes for intellect in your family? If it is, exactly how linear is that tree?
By the way, Shirley Sherrod is the subject of a report right now on Fox, Tom Vilsack (Secretary of Agriculture) has offered her a job maybe not the same one, but she will be fine. Amazing! Vilsack is calling it a "teachable moment...
That doesn't disprove ANYTHING I've said... While you are predicting the future, mind telling us who will win the 2010 super bowl?
ctdad - I do recognize your moniker and I agree with your post 1.77. I've been saying that for years. I'm trying to remember when reporters became pr reps instead of journalists.
bsbfankaren - Some of the attendees of that meeting were on CNN this morning. They say they are not racists and I will acknowledge that they are not.
Karen, I appreciate your time and attention here. Please rest assured that I was not trying to tell you that you didn't see what you saw. What I was doing was, having watched the entire video on CNN then gaining some much needed feedback from someone a woman who is a Professor at Princeton that contributes to MSNBC who I very much admire, was trying to add some prospective based on what I saw as well. People saying they are not racist after the fact means very little to a lot of people and I know that, I was just trying to point out something that I saw and heard.
ctdad - you are quite welcome. I always recognize your moniker because I think of Connecticut and I used to live there for a couple of years. I hope that's what the CT is for.
My sister married her high school sweetheart and lived in CT for many more years.
My sister says that most CT people are independent voters. I think that is great.
I became an independent voter in 2008. Prior to then, I kept trying out the parties and neither one ever worked for me.
Karen in Los Angeles....Your sister is correct, there are a lot of INDs in CT. My Mom is a diehard DEM and it always gets heated when we talk politics...Sometimes we purposely take a hard line just to tease her..
Aside from the above, personally, I'm sick and tired of the ideological diatribe which continue to spew from some posters. I'm of the belief that you cannot promote any change unless you are willing to compromise. No one knows everything....It's unfortunate that those in power believe they do and are unwilling to entertain ideas other than their own..
The US vs THEM attitude is wearing thin...everytime someone insults and point the finger of blame at REPs or DEMs...you insult the fellow Americans who voted for them...whether you agree or disagree, you have to at the very least extend some respect. IMO, this is an example of immaturity, which appears to be commonplace today.
Despite this, it's refreshing to know there are others, like yourself, who seem to see and feel the same frustration as myself...
You are welcome and thank you for reading mine too. Racism, reverse racism, discrimination and reverse discrimination are my biggest pet peeves. I grew up during the 60's. I really try to be colorblind.#1.81
Kathy - Despite our different opinion on the marijuana issue you and I are very much alike.
Andrew Breitbart is the lowest of the low. He represents the new Republican Party and I am so completely offended by him and all of those like him. He is beyond dispicable.
Sharon, he just made the White House and the NAACP look foolish by playing their own tape. Since the NAACP has the tape they could have looked it before they reacted. They chose to leap before they looked ,and now they just look foolish. The rest of the media that ran with the story demonstrated poor investigative journalism.
I have to agree with Sharon, though Gary is correct too. Breitbart is a douche bag of the highest caliber, and the no nothing nimrods of the NAACP and unfortunately the Obama White House (I voted for the guy) took the bait hook, line and sinker.
Gary you are so on spot with the rest of the media, they wouldn't know real journalism it if bit them in the hiney. The real journalists are all retired or dead. Sad is the day when I turn the news on and the big story of the day is Lindsey Lohan going to jail, why is this news over the real issues of the day? That's my gripe, thank you for listening. I feel much better now.
You can look at this video all day...the facts speak for themselves. When she spoke of not helping and taking him to one of his own...and the audience raves...Folks, here is a point of education...This is Racism!!! Like it or not. Fired or not. it is what it is. Brightbart just showed you something that would have started a war if this was a white person. Wake up and get your mind right. You are being lied to
The REAL story is how short fused this country has gotten by the lackluster use of the word Racism or Racist.
We have stooped to using the racism card so frequent, and without recourse or proof, that you can be fired before your due process was even thought of. Innocent until proven guilty? Not anymore! Now you have to prove you are NOT a racist.
Now THAT should offend not only you, but all Americans.
As a White person, I feel sorry for those who known what racism really was.
The term 'racist' is now a political weapon more often than not. Sad really...
Breitbart is just another Tea Party extremist who intentionally edited the tape to mislead anyone who heard it. It was deliberate and he intended it to create the havoc it did. He has only reinforced the stupidity of the Tea Party.
Mike, I guess you have walked on water for so long you have forgot or never experienced the story of change a person shares about themselves. This story she shared happen in 1986, she was talking about how she changed to see things different.
As for the media , naacp and white house (just like with the acorn BS). the emotional knee jerk reaction is crap. They all need to grow up and stop feeding the emotionally crippled group that eat this stuff up and demands more on t.v. news.
If you are talking about fucfaux so called news tape, like acorns tape, totally cuted up to "look" like something totally different than it was than facts are something that needs to be in your so call watching.
It is the watchers of fucfaux that are being sooooo lied to., but don't tell them that. It would up-set the emotional balance they think they have.
You only have to prove that you are not a racist if you are white. You have to remember that. Because all of us white people are responsible for what happened hundreds of years ago even though we weren't here or involved at all.
Or one could take a look at the last 50 years of history....We had a pocket of people who could not sit on a bus anywhere they wanted, drink out of a water fountain, attend school with each other, etc...
It is a tiresome argument on both sides of the fence to always say this climate is due to slavery, etc, etc. It is not. Many of our (Black) mothers, fathers, grandparents lived this this tumultous time. Unfortunately, their scars have been passed down to us (their children) right or wrong....
If we are all honest, we ALL have prejudices against one another, for one thing or another. The trick is to not allow those prejudices to mistreat another Human Being...
It is strange how the left think that only liberals can change. If David Dukes repudiated his past, the left would never believe.
This lady was a racist. It seems that she does not have those feeling, only God and she knows. The audience showed that they are still racist. It need to stop.
The NAACP started the latest flare up, they should start to take steps to prevent it.
I guess you folks missed how FOX NEWS played the tape all day long!!!
Yes, the Obama Admin acted hastily, but in their defense, look at the climate of people who say they don't act quickly and they are defending "Blacks"!! And that's not okay, but what this Yahoo was trying to do was worse!!
I think it represents how low the TEA PARTY will sink in order to legitimize their own racism. If nothing else this just proves beyond a shadow of doubt that the TEA PARTY is racist!!
It is sad that I have become so callused towards racial stories that I have finally gotten to the point that I do not give them much meritany more. I guess this is what happens when people and the news has used this card for political gain too many times.
As for the Obama, his administration, and the NAACP all reacted with a knee jerk reaction. Soon you will find that both sides will wear this out until no one reacts to racism at all. Maybe if people would quite using this as an attack against someone who does not agree with them personally or is at odds with their political persuasion then this would again have the power that it deserves.
Rick, the key word in your post is WAS. She showed how she changed. How have those who are prejudiced against her now changed? How have those who are spreading lies about her changed?
There was nothing misleading about the tape. It was about the NAACP audience's reaction. They were practically cheering her for her racially bias thoughts BEFORE she spoke about how she had changed those thoughts. Up to that point in the tape, all the audience knew was she was relating a story where she was going to discriminate against a white farmer, and they applauded. It was NEVER about her. It was to show the racist attitude of the NAACP members in the crowd.
His only mistake was not hiding the speaker's identity. If he had done that, then maybe people would be focusing more on the crowd's reaction.
I had to sit in the back of a bus in Norfolk VA. when I was 6 years old. About 50 years ago. Jim Crow (examples...
Nurses No person or corporation shall require any white female nurse to nurse in wards or rooms in hospitals, either public or private, in which negro men are placed. Alabama
Buses All passenger stations in this state operated by any motor transportation company shall have separate waiting rooms or space and separate ticket windows for the white and colored races. Alabama
Railroads The conductor of each passenger train is authorized and required to assign each passenger to the car or the division of the car, when it is divided by a partition, designated for the race to which such passenger belongs. Alabama
Restaurants It shall be unlawful to conduct a restaurant or other place for the serving of food in the city, at which white and colored people are served in the same room, unless such white and colored persons are effectually separated by a solid partition extending from the floor upward to a distance of seven feet or higher, and unless a separate entrance from the street is provided for each compartment. Alabama
) in the South was outlawed in the late 60's and in someplaces never really ended, to this day. Besides, the issue is who holds the cards and has power. Black Americans do not hold power legislatively, in media, socially or any other way. We're barely 10% of the population. Sometimes its our fault that we don't have more power. But there's no denying White America holds 90% of the chips. But people like Breitbart want to play the victim card for the most powerful in this country. It's treacherous and dishonest . He should be ashamed of himself.
Un-freaking-believable! The knuckle-dragging Breitbart intentionally misconstrues Sherrod's comments, KNOWINGLY sets her up in a heated political climate as a scapegoat, and the Right deflects, deflects, deflects away from his lies! AND they continue to call her a racist (since personal growth is so alien to their ideology). Only someone totally dishonest could possibly defend Breitbart's actions. And to say "it's all about the NAACP" is just outright deceit. Had they and the Obama Administration NOT condemned Sherrod given the "evidence" Breitbart put out there as "real," then the right's argument would be the same thing ... "it's proof of racism." this was a no-win setup from the beginning, conceived of in Breitbart's sewer of a mind and perpetuated by his lemming lackeys. This is absolutely NOT about anything more than Breitbart et al's hateful agenda and their willingness to do ANYTHING to further it. Sadly, the right really has been taken over by the lowest of the low in this country. Once upon a time, there was honor and integrity on the right, but apparently those days are gone. THAT is the lesson the rest of us should take away from this ... NEVER, EVER trust the New Right to be fair or honest. NO MATTER what reaction to the altered video had been, these cretins would still be adhering to their agenda of divisiveness. It really is for them all about making the left look bad no matter the consequences for the country.
Then one would hope you are equally offended by the Dems and the NAACP. They have continually fired the racist charge at the Tea Party and Republicans with no supporting evidence.
In this case, they finally found out what it feels like to have some of those charges fired back at them... with supporting evidence. Yes, the ooohing and ahhhing of the audience speaks volumes about the mind set of the people in the room.
Long story short, if the Dept. of Agriculture had not asked for and accepted her resignation, you people would be screaming about letting a racist work for the Administration.
There is nothing Obama can do to please/appease a lot of you, so he should just stop trying.
Michael-267231 - You are correct. I used the word "was" based on her comments, since what she said was in the past and she says she has changed.
But the response from the NAACP crowd was not past tense. That was in March, I doubt they have changed. Those are the ones who might be racists. We will never know what they have in their hearts, we can only guess based on actions.
Sharon and all others :Please note that this clown choose to ignore the rest of the tape as it wouldn't do what he wanted which was to cause a stink and inflame those who don't look beyond the head lines
I guess most forgot about Cambridge police department or Sergeant Crowley. He was acting on the department's policy and got in trouble over it also due to people jumping to conclusions.
Forget about racism...this is about that zero tolerance crap!!!
A person in power should always take the time to get all of the facts before making a decision no matter how much pressure is on them
Breitbart is the lowest of the low. I saw him interviewed this morning. He is disingenuous at best, but more likely pathological. Why didn't George Stephanopoulos call him on his obvious attempt to revise and distort reality? He lied and fast talked his way out of his responsibility for this destructive anti-American propaganda. Reminiscent of other forces in history. Why are we not picketing NEWS CORP? Fox has to feel the wrath of Americans who have had enough and are offended by their dangerous attempt at polluting "the minds" of the low information viewers. This pathetic demographic is ripe, vulnerable and easily influenced to behave primitively without obtaining the truth. Whatever happened to peaceful demonstrations? Who are the sponsors of Fox News? Please advise. Boycotts work!
57CHERO, you are insane with hate of your fellow human being. Like you truly know the heart and soul of this women. If you got as upset at TRUE acts of racism, as you do this miconstruded act, you would be the greatest civil rights leaders since MLK. But we know that's not gonna happen, HUH?
I am a conservative independent. I have never felt ashamed of what I am, but it is people that are making statements and living by the standards you have mentioned that has given conservatives a bad name.
Mike, I guess you have walked on water for so long you have forgot or never experienced the story of change a person shares about themselves. This story she shared happen in 1986, she was talking about how she changed to see things different.
You clrearly didn't read or understand Mike's post. He wasn't speaking ill of her or her ability to change. He was speaking about the audiences reaction and their laughs and cheers regarding her story to not help a white person. Mike did not call her a racist. He pointed out the racism in the audience. Pay attention next time otherwise your no more a fool than those that jumped to the conclusion based only on the clip!
NAACP was "snookered", what a bunch of bulls###. Why can't they just admit they didn't take the time to find out at ALL the facts and just jumped on the bandwagon and threw this lady to the wolves. Typical of the leadership of this organization, have to blame someone else for their own ineptitude. I am NOT a supporter of the NAACP or the Obama Administration, but I did take the time to see the whole video and its apparent that she is not guilty of what they were charging her of. Thought I do wonder if roles were reversed, would people be backtracking like they are now, doubt it....
Here's the BS, that this guy would claim he was aiming at the NAACP and 'they' made this about this poor worker. Mrs. Sherrod did not work for the NAACP, we don't know if she was ever even a member of the NAACP so why is he back-pedaling and claiming that someone other then him took aim at Mrs. Sherrod ? HE, w/malice intended edited a sound bit of a speech , took it totally out of context and put it on the web. Now that he's been found out, he's trying to blame 'others' and the NAACP??
MariahH - Have you seen the video? Have you heard the reaction of the NAACP members she was talking to? That is not BS, it is the way of some who are members of the NAACP. The only people back-pedaling are the NAACP and the Obama administration.
Puh-lease. The NAACP was snookered. Ms. Sherrod was piled on by a bunch of individuals (representating various organizations) who didn't bother to check the facts or listen to her side of the story before they villified her. The NAACP could have done due diligence just as the others could have: she deserved this from everyone. No one gets a pass on this--not the media, not the NAACP, not her bosses, not the White House, not a solitary soul who rushed to judgment. Racism continues to be a problem in this country. Sadly, also, so does the media's interest in feeding the 24-hour news cycle with must-see TV that will catch the interest of a public accustomed to reality TV. Ms. Sherrod deserves a public apology from all who piled on her, her job back with an increase in salary, and a paid vacation of at least a month. How much stress and public humiliation should a person have to endure because they were candid about their personal growth at a meeting?
How do you know the audience wasn't reacting to things they too have felt? Since the end result is one of an epiphany on race, and they were there listening, you really can't pass judgment on what they were thinking either. Especially on something that happened that long ago, you don't know what blacks were going through then.
In the FULL VIDEO - you know, the one that Breitbart cut bits and pieces out of and that you don't want to see because it might not support your talking points - the clapping is in response to Sherrod saying God led her away from her preconceived notions ... yeah, that's racist, alright. Must mean ALL Evangelical Christians are racist, too, huh??? ....
lib50 - Racism is racism, when you generalize and say 'well they are white/black/asian/hispanic, they deserve what they get' it's all equally stupid and offensive in my eyes.
briegburg is proved to be a lying sack of sh** for editing the video to deliberatley convey a false picture. he's the demon in this case. Brieburg. And to whatever extent Fox news repeated the lies without checking the facts, they're guilty too. I hope Brieburg gets sued or better yet prosecuted for libel.
It's a joke that all these white people are so appalled at black racism. If I were black and had been treated by white people the way black people have been and still are, why would I have any warm fuzzy feelings toward white people? The truth is, our black brethren are to be admired for their ability to look at people as individuals and not as members of a class of people whose behavior toward them has been utterly appalling. All you poor poor white people who have been subjected to racist behavior by black people (and there might be one or two), please take a minute to stand in the shoes of your fellow citizens and understand the basis for their negative feelings toward us. And then shut the hell up.
Wow - Isn't it Ironic that now the shoe is on the other foot and Blacks have to walk on glass and be afraid of being accused of Racism? I guess they have arrived. Welcome to our world - Where every thing has to be politically correct!
Louee, Get a job and get off welfare, If you worked as hard at a job as you do protecting the lazy, the working class would all have more money in our pockets.
Breitbart said he was surprised by how the media “misconstrued” the tapes of Sherrod and that he did not expect that the White House “would throw her under the bus.”
HUH? This White House throw somebody under the bus? NO!!!!! They've only been throwing the American people under the bus since day one.
The scariest part of this whole thing is that if this White House had such a knee jerk reaction to this, God forbid Breitbart posts an old clip of the Soviet Union testing one of their nuclear warheads!
Barrack will be running around the White House in his mom jeans looking for the RED BUTTON to push.
IndyGbb...the biggest bigots always try to prove how inferior the black race is. It's the reason they are eating their shorts with a half black president. I mean...how dare he aspire with all of his education and brains to dare succeed to the White House meant only for the richest, laziest Republican rich boys, right?
Wrong. And, this guy Breitbart is such a worm that he is now proving beyond a doubt that No right winger ever takes responsibility for what they do. He's blaming the press? He opens mouth. Sticks silver foot in and then it's everyone's fault but his...good going Von Breitbart.
As long as there are the Jesse Jackson's, Al Sharptons, Rush L, Hannity's in this world. This insanity will never stop. These are the people that incite racism. They do it for themselves, the money and the ratings. It is a very sad day when the people who have lived through this in the 1960's and have overcome it, have to see it's ugly head raised up as a weapon (and I am speaking of all sides, not just black and white, but of Native American Indian, Asian, etc). I am saddened by this whole affair and many that have happened in the past. We are human beings, that have brains. Let's use them for the good, the right reasons and quit being Sheeple that follow these pot stirrers. I will remove myself from my soapbox now.
...interesting how everyone is backing Breitbart on his effort to expose racism in the NAACP, but should it have been at the cost of this woman losing her job? She is a victim in this situation. Yeah, the members at the conference laughed at her comment (which is awful), but her lesson was to overcome such hateful and discriminatory mind-sets. I'm sure there is other media that Brietbart could've gained access to to prove his point of hypocricy within the NAACP that didn't involve an innocent American woman trying to teach unity. Sherron might not have been Breitbart's target, but she IS the one paying for his negligence, which now makes her the main point in this story. Let's face it, all extremist groups will victimize anyone just to sell their agenda- no matter the cost.
Prejudices reside in ALL ethnic groups- pointing the finger to another race doesn't erase your own prejudices, so this blame game over whether whites or blacks are "more racist" is just a waste of time. All it does is give those "closet bigots" the opportunity to spread their hate while hiding behind a monitor and a screen name.
Well, well well. Lets blame everyone who believed the video. Why just blame Washington for believing it. If what anyone wants is to be fooled twice then by all means believe Beittbarts excuse.
Anyone wonder why no one thought the video was about anyone but the woman who was wronged? Anyone wonder why a writer would not make it clear that she was making a case stating racism against black or white is wrong?
Don't ever take another drink out of a pool the owner made into his outhouse - or we can blame the president, and take another sip from the pool.
If you want to sue him for libel and slander wouldn't you then also believe that the editors for ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN should be sued on a daily basis for the crap they feed us everyday on what we call "The News".
"If I were black and had been treated by white people the way black people have been and still are, why would I have any warm fuzzy feelings toward white people?"
You know, this is exactly the thing that causes racisim these days. People always wanting someone to feel sorry for what happened in the beginning of our country. What happened was absolutely horrible, but there is no one alive who lived through those experiences and no one alive who did those horrible things. I am not saying we should forget about it because looking back on history is how we learn for the future. BUT to say that we should admire a certain race over another is complet bull. You want to be equal then by god treat both races equal. I do not wish to stand in the shoes of people who were poorly treated years ago, and i bet black people today wouldn't want to stand in those shoes either. why can't people move on? my generation is different than my grandparents, so if people just relax and know that change is happening, then the whole world would be better off.
a man came to my college. he was one of the students who integrated little rock high school in the south. he said that slavery lasted 200 years and we have been out of slavery for not even half that time. he said that there is still much to be done to make things equal but there has been a lot done.
why can't people look at the progress that has been made for equality? why do people have to look solely on the negative?
The difference in the NAACP and the right-wing Fox News blogger , Briebart, is that they admitted they made a mistake in judging the lady without all the facts and corrected it. Briebart is still trying to justify his unfair and blatantly racist BS.
Do not make this a black or white issue but a logic vs. nonlogic. Because all people show favoritism towards their own and we need to break this cycle so that the right people can have the right opportunities.
Remember the refrain, "yes you are, so what am I"! This juvenile - no... puerile childish strategy is the retreat of the insecure and the ineffectual and seems to be the only spin left available to Briebart and FOX. This is payback plain and simple for the NAACP calling out the Tea Party for racism. Now that they have been found out - they default to this childish taunt like the bullies and yes... the racist they are!
The Fact is What this Lady did 24 Years Ago was a RACIST ACT. She didnt help the White man as much as she could BECAUSE he was white. Whether it was 24 years ago. OR today it was Still Racist, The fact that her statements were 4 months ago at a NAACP meeting. and they were Clapping that she didnt help him, shows just how biased the NAACP is. when she explained to them that she Learned it wasnt a BLACK ,, White ISSUE. the stopped Clapping and responding in an Affirmative way... they just listened. This woman should not have been fired, she was Explaining how she used RACE and had an AHAA Moment and realized what she was doing was Wrong.
It is really sad that prejudice is alive and well, no matter what color skin we have. Americans are so divided between race, political party and religion that I really fear for this nation. Who would have thought that a mixed race president would have brought all this hatred to the fore front of America. God in heaven have mercy on all of us sinners.
Oh, so now white racism is the NAACP's fault??? The legacy of Hate, Racism, Bigotry, Discrimination, Segragation, Jim Crow, Slavery, the genocide of the Natives in this Country land right where it should, at the feet of white America. They are the ones who have benifitted from 400 years of white supremisy. Now, SOME whites have the nerve to think this culture of racism in America is the NAACP's fault. Pleez!!! The NAACP has never Lynched, Beat, Terrorized, Burnt, Bombed, Mudered, Dragged behind a truck any white person in history!! Nor have they discriminated aginst one! You people are just stupid!
You know, this is exactly the thing that causes racisim these days. People always wanting someone to feel sorry for what happened in the beginning of our country. What happened was absolutely horrible, but there is no one alive who lived through those experiences and no one alive who did those horrible things.
and it looks like someone else needs a history lesson.
The Fact is What this Lady did 24 Years Ago was a RACIST ACT. She didnt help the White man as much as she could BECAUSE he was white
uh oh. Looks like someone doesn't know the full story and is just talking out their a$$...
You stole my thoughts. lol. I read it and thought I was seeing things. Apparently the poster didn't realise the farmer she absolutely helped is standing up for her. The couple credit her for saving their farm as you know.
I'd like to know who gave him a checkmark for not being informed. lol
he said that there is still much to be done to make things equal but there has been a lot done.
why can't people look at the progress that has been made for equality? why do people have to look solely on the negative?
What is wrong is this - there was a whole lot of negative for a long time, as you write. And a lot of bitter and bloody struggle just for the country to realize the need to bring it to zero. And after all that, to say that now you're legally equal to us, but make us feel good about ourselves now that we're making progress at treating you as equals is ridiculous. It should be a one time thing to accept what was done wrong and to not make those wrongs - not enough to slowly make it right. People don't want to see 'progress' for another century, it should have been done right then and it would still not be something to gloat about.
And unfortunately, it is not that easy to forget the dead fathers and grand fathers and all the sufferings they went through - it will only take a slight viral infection to aggravate the still healing wound. Attempts like this blogger's to pick on some private speech to point finger at NAACP, as he unabashedly announces, only proves that the likes of him want to think of equality as something whites gave to the blacks, rather than correcting an injustice. I know, if a white spoke that way, it would be condemned; but you have remember that the whites did a lot worse than just giving speeches.
Just the fact that you think that it should be a progress yells out that 'I can do wrong in an instance, but making it right takes me time' - time that was never there ran out before you even thought about it.
Maybe because she was speaking at an NAACP conference and when she mentions she didnt help the white farmer, the audience claps and cheers?
That my friend, no matter how you spin it, is racsim in the NAACP.
Guess its ok to cheer right? Bravo White House. You took our bait hook line and sinker. LOL
Wow, and some of you are seeking to add further insult to injury? If the audience was cheering how she allegedly mistreated white people then why were they in-step with her epiphany that it was about being poor and not race? Why didn't they boo her out of the meeting? It's because they all knew the story well.
Perhaps not in detail but everyone of the elders in that audience had to learn how to humour bigotry. Some of you forget that there are people living who witnessed the murder of their family members and were left fatherless or motherless to figure things out with absolutely no involvement or protection from law enforcement or the justice system. Just the burial of their loved one in these great United States.
Any mature person would know that they laughed at her innocent naivete at the age of 17 and knew full well that her message was not going to end up with hating white people. They were not at a "hate white people convention" as some of you would like to portray the event. They were there to testify... to promote and support racial healing. A place that does not exist in mainstream media and apparently not on Newsvine.
That's the purpose of those meetings; to share how they are active in promoting harmony in their works and beliefs. To further the agenda and belief of racial tolerance. It is the basis of the NAACP. By the way... the NAACP was primarily created by whites, not blacks.
The story was about enduring vile racism and the anniversary of her father's killing by white men who have never been brought to justice. She was sharing her anger as a 17 year old woman who was at the crossroads of redemption for her own life... to decide which road she would take.
It was about understanding that perpetuating racism was not only wrong but an injustice to her father's memory and furthermore... an injustice to her life that she was only beginning. She made a promise based on the loss of her father that some people are now grasping at straws to inflict guilt on the NAACP for calling out the Tea Party. What better forum would you suggest she tell this kind of story? Where would it be more appropriate?
Plan and simple, Breitbart knew what he was doing... he saw the whole story but chose evil over good. Much like what Mrs. Sherrod was speaking towards. That at Breitbart's encounter at the crossroads; unlike Mrs. Sherrod, he chose evil.
God has a funny way of teaching us and He taught me that despite the story being about redemption and tolerance, it showed the hypocrisy of being innocent until proven guilty. It showed me that now matter how hard you work throughout your life to support good, someone with any ole kind of story can wipe you out based on rumor, speculation and innuendo. It showed me that we have two kinds of workers fighting for the destiny of this country; those that want to change and others that want us polarized. It showed me that we have incredible amounts of resources ready willing and able to villanize anyone (black or white) without having heard anything remotely close to the truth. It also showed me that the news can be manipulated to any agenda without the good for all of us.
It showed me that Fox News should no longer be considered a serious news publication or journalistic business; it is the devil's lair... waiting for the next story, regardless of integrity, who it harms or how they go about handling a situation.
That hannity and o'reilly are pawns that work for an australian boss who has his hands in two pots for money. On Fox News, it's about race baiting and partisan entertainment while australian Sky News... owned by the same person is using the media to shape the hearts of people in australia against Americans.
It's time we as a people stop falling for the petty bickering and realize that we are losing our jobs and economy because it's clear to others looking in that we have no unity. That lack of unity will cause this great nation to fall if we continue to be induced into slumber everytime someone makes an accusation for selfish reason.
We need to stop having people pull our strings or push our buttons at will.
The NAACP should not have accused an honest organization with valid concerns of racism while it has its own serious problems of racism within its membership. The video, whether you leftists out there like it or not, provides conclusive evidence that there are those within the NAACP who laugh and jeer at the prospect of a white man being subject to the racist whims of black woman back in the 80s. Maybe it was a story of redemption and realization, but that does not negate the fact that the crowd seemed to take delight in the farmer's predicament. I'm a white guy who was born in the 80s, please, for those that wish me to suffer because of the sins of people who shared my skin color back in the 50s and 60s, can I maybe have a time table or something so I know how long I should feel guilty for those pre-birth sins? I wouldn't want to offend anyone for not displaying the suitable, USDA approved feeling of guilt. The point is racism is prevalent on all sides and needs to go away. Who cares what skin color you have. Stop promoting diversity (what makes us different) and start promoting unity (how we are the same).
JQ, if you think the tea party does not have a hatefilled racist elliment in it, your brainwashed. just like the people who supported bushcheney for eight years, as they raped and pilledge our entire Nation. Then walked away scott free. We are the same numb nuts, were AMERICANS!!
Oh um... well since you say so, that must make it so... the thing is though... whereas there is a video showing audience members during this NAACP speech laughing about a white persons misfortune, there is no such thing showing similar behavior of tea party members gloating over misfortunes suffered by minorities. As a matter of fact I have yet to see any evidence of racism, just the accusations of a politically-motivated congressman whose claims are still uncorroborated with video evidence despite the sea of video and news cameras present at the scene of the alleged racism. The tea party has nothing to do with race and everything to do with fighting tyranny. Is there a possibility that some racists are also tea party members? Sure, I don't believe there is a scientific test to screen for the degree of racism a particular individual might harbor. However, the Tea Party constantly condemns the notion that it is a racist organization while the NAACP laughs at the struggles of white people. Just because I say the sky is green doesn't make it so.
To the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. If you want to advance the colored people stop with your racist bull crap. Teach those in the African American community to think beyond black and white. If you can change the minds and attitudes of at least 90% of those in the African American community to change their biased views, I would almost guarantee that 90% of the non African Americans would also change their views. It is time for people to stop teaching hate and division and reach across the aisle and say "Hello, I would like to be your friend. Will you help me to do that." The problem in America there are too many organizations the propagate racism and hatred that things will never change until they are eliminated. ACLU, NAACP, black panthers on one side, KKK minute men groups and Neo-Nazi groups on the other. If they can't or aren't willing to change get an old rope and hang them all. Some how we have to eliminate the hatred.
Apparently the White House and the NAACP are being led by a group of bumbling idiots that react without thought or reason. They didn't even investigate before they reacted.
Yes, the WH bumbled by accepting what Mr. Breitbart put out there as all the facts. But Mr. Breitbart is the one who purposely put this edited version out there to mislead. This is the SOP of the extreme right.
Hopefully the WH and the legitimate media will learn from this and not be so quick to accept "news" from the extreme right. Maybe sensible Americans from all walks of life will stop paying attention to these right-wingers who only want to stir up trouble, like juveniles vandalizing property.
Conservatives are a good part of the reason you can post drivel like this in the first place. Take them away and you'll have all of the hope and chance you an eat
I don't even watch Fox or listen to Rush or whomever. I listen to Dan Patrick, Mike and Mike, PMS etc.. All that being said last night I decided to watch O'Reily and some guy on CNN flipping back and forth, from what OReilly said (and I can understand why plenty don't like his smugness) I believe this from fox is centered around their belief that the media is blacking out stories and burying them in order to paint the administration in a certain light, even the guy on CNN addressed the issue to a certain extend which I believe might hold water. I get most of my news here, the edited version I saw was on this site and this site only. Do I agree with the editing no, but I do agree that the point of the person that offered up the clip was to show the reaction of the crowd. I feel bad for her though she got the shaft, clearly.
Hello Liberals. Now we will talk about hate. By saying that all conservatives are liars, and that we hate everone. You might want to look in the mirror. The only hate is coming from you! What are you three? You can't have a conversation without pre-judging someone?!!! Now who is out of touch with reality!?!
Tim, the left can get angry too, and after being dumped on by the right (and most of the hate is on the right, sorry, but it is) who can blame them? But this particular story has damned everyone, including all the media, the administration, the blogger and the public. I hope from now on stories are fact checked before they see the light of day. And we should all be more careful before believing everything you see, especially when they are edited so deviously (much like the pimp/acorn story was).
Neither party is a victim in this type of game. The left dumps on the right and vice versa. To say that one party has more hate than the other is naive. Both sides have people who are racist, that hate others for their political views, ethnic backgrounds, etc, etc.
Neither party is free of guilt about twisting things their own way for their benefit.
I have to say that I am utterly surprised that Lib50 would contend Libs are less hateful than conservatives. Who would have ever thought that someone going by Lib50 would be biased towards Libs? Is it odd that Lib50 likes LibS?
Doing that "get along" thing would deprive a whole lot of people a whole lot of subject matter to whine about. And the gov't would have to find other things to place their no-account committees on besides why we can't get along. And, what would happen to the NAACP? And rev. Jesse, or rev Al? Heck, if we got along, then they'd have nothing to scream about and they wouldn't have a way to get their names and faces in the paper every chance they get.........And, we just can't have that!!!!
CF, what about rush, hanity, beck, ingrim, and all the other right wing racist nut jobs putting their name om tv and in the papers. Their are why America is down the tubes right now!
well, here we go into the past again!!! if you didn't have a "race problem" jessie jackson and his ilk will give you one. the worst part of this is the perpetration of a scheme on unsuspecting blacks being used as a pawn by their own leadership. no less pathetic than whites being duped, just more ironic that blacks are being "enslaved" again in a not so different way, by their own people. shameful! there kids will ask them...where were you, what did you do that was right? is this really the hope and change you hoped for...back to the 50's led there by people who should know better...?
Mike...My neighbor is black, a college professor and my other black neighbor is a man who has worked hard all his life and they fit into my multi-cultural neighborhood just fine. People like you need their heads examined as to why you feel race has anything to do with brains.
And, as my southern ex-husband would tell you, a lot of white, white men took full advantage of black females pre-Civil war. So..who's the greater evil in this world?
Mike if you think you live in a RACIAL EUTOPIA you need to put down the crack/meth pipe and re-enter the real world. You are being used by your own leadership, rush, bushcheney, beck, hanity, ingrim, and the rest of the right wing racist nut jobs......
Who cares what Breitbart thinks ? He's a liar and a fraud. Why can't you report the fncking truth instead turning everything into a he said / she said nontroversy ?
Tainting the tea party movement with the charge of racism is proving to be an effective strategy for Democrats. There is no evidence that tea party adherents are any more racist than other Republicans, and indeed many other Americans. But getting them to spend their time purging their ranks and having candidates distance themselves should help Democrats win in November. Having one’s opponent rebut charges of racism is far better than discussing joblessness. - Mary Frances Berry
Now you are getting way too upset. Calm down and have a discussion without blowing your topp! I guess that you are liberal? That is fine, but don't call a guy a liar if you don't plan to back that up! Once you go down that road things can become blurry! If you have all this bent up anger, then maybe you should see a pyscologist? You don't have to yell or talk badly about people to get your point accross. I am finding myself wondering where are country is going with all this race hate? Obama was suppose to bridge the gap?!! I am affraid all the white house is doing is hiring destructo's! You know people who like to demolish things and then rebuild them from the ashes. That is a deadly course of action. God Bless America!!
Jimbo - Who gives a flying @#$ if the Democrats win in November? You really think that Democratic/Republican candidate gives a damn about you? Don't make me laugh! How about focusing on which candidate is actually willing to be a public servant and do what their constituents want instead of what their freaking party wants?
Once more we are given the fact that it is alright to be racist if you are a person of color. And I must be a racist because I did not and never will vote for a Communist cockroach like Obama just because he is a black one. The woman did not do her job because the applicant for assistance was white. Can her and make it stick and expose the NAACP for the racist dung heap that it is.
BrokinArrow - you put your finger right on the true problem. By the time almost any elected official gets that high in government, they have, whether knowingly or not, been compromised by the very process of getting that high in office. I am a Democrat, notice I did not say liberal bleeding heart, and my husband is a Republican, notice I did not say Conservative nut job, the two of us have been waiting all of our voting life to vote for a person, not the lesser of two evils. We are still waiting. We don't always agree on whom to vote for, but we almost always agree that we are voting against someone rather than for someone.
Was what this woman did 24 years ago racist? Probably. But she also states in the same breath that she made the realization that it wasn't about skin it was about the haves vs the have nots while working with this couple. Should she be fired in 2010 for something she did in 1986...if so, God help me, I was 18 in 1986 and said/did some truly stupid things. I hope I never get fired for something that I did or said 24 years ago. Especially if it led to me being a better person today. I haven't seen the entire video yet, therefore, I will refrain from making comments about what is/is not racist about the NAACP. Hmm...there's a thought... waiting for righteous indignation and absolute belief that you can't be wrong to give way to rational thought. That's something many people in this country need to give a fair shake.
Who cares what Breitbart thinks ? He's a liar and a fraud. Why can't you report the fncking truth instead turning everything into a he said / she said nontroversy ?
Of course it is a lie. It is a lie because he wanted to show the clip as something different than what it really was, which was an epiphany, or a story of redemption, the total opposite of what he tried to portray it as. That is a lie, much like the pimp/acorn story.
Among other common lies, we have the silent lie -- the deception which one conveys by simply keeping still and concealing the truth. Many obstinate truth-mongers indulge in this dissipation, imagining that if they speak no lie, they lie not at all.
That means that the media lies everyday as does Congress and the White House (All administrations) Just look at the healthcare bill, they did not tell us what was in it. They omitted things that they knew would create problems for passage.
A lie is something that you say that you knew was not true that the time you said it. The snippit was not a lie.
Unbelievable...Gee I'd almost forgotten how Nixon ordered those Watergate tapes altered. Thanks for reminding me. Or, were you referring to the tapes of that secret White House meeting in 2001 with the Big Energy CEOs Cheney held?
Wait...You must mean the secret tapes destroyed to the tune of 100,000 tons at Enron some of which would have clearly and obviously proven Bush was a lot more than just Kenny Boy's old buddy.
Rick-531980

So if you know the truth about something yet intentionally omit information to suit your agenda which directly contradicts the actual situation- thats not a lie?
How time flies and we forget so fast. No conservatives didn't do these things, It was the liberals who did these things to make the conservatives look bad........
Unbelievable...There may be people who will allow you to distort the truth. But, not me. It was Nixon, a conservative Republican who altered the Watergate tapes. It was Bush and Cheney who made certain that the records of emails were destroyed or altered because it was "executive privilege". Executive privilege? When it pertains to a government we pay for?
It was not as you lied in your post, the liberals who altered those tapes. Nixon, Bush and Cheney and Bush I made certain no taxpaying American would ever get their hands on government records they had no right to destroy. You can stop posting lies now.
He is saying that he was not trying to show that the woman in the video was racist but that the NAACP was racist in how they were reacting to her comments.
If this was some Tea Party meeting and someone was talking about how they did stuff to black people earlier in life and people were cheering, and then later in the speech they said that they realized that it was wrong, the story would not be about the person who changed his mind about black people, it would be about how all the white people were cheering when the person was describing what they did to black people. That is where the story should be in this case.
Although by the way that she told her story, I still find it racist in the way she referrs to "them" and "one of their own kind". Thinking like that does not belong in government service, whether black or white.
"All I know is that racism was not a word ever mentioned while Bush, Clinton or Big Daddah were in the White House."
Didn't have to, it was a practice, not a word.
In Bush's campaign for nomination they spread a lie that McCain had a black baby outside of his marriage. The heads started imploding. They knew where the racists were, right in their own party.
Or did you forget Voter Caging practiced in Reagans, Both Bush's elections?....and the RNC got caught each time.
What about the large amounts of off site meetings Obama's staff is having with lobbiests. This way he can still say he's being transperent witht he White House vistor's log. MSNBC ran that story not too long ago. What Nixon did was wrong. Executive privilege is used by all administrations, not just the Republicans. Or did you forget that Obama used that to seal his private records. I'm sure Clinton never lied to use or omitted telling us things he did (oops he did!). If you want to point fingers, you need to point it at both parties. I'm a stauch conservative but I'm not naieve enough to believe that the Republicans don't lie. When they do I my same reaction is to that as when the Dems lie. You seem to only want to believe the left never lies, only the right. You need to wake up!
Epic Fail is an understatement. This was an unacceptable act. The President fell for FOX's lie AGAIN, and there is NO excuse for that. We've seen this happen before, and instead of learning their lesson from ACORN, the white house made the exact same mistake and helped Breitbart get an INNOCENT woman fired. It's not an epic fail, it's disgusting.
Maybe this is what was needed to stop the seemingly endless misrepresentations coming from the right without fact checking and calling out the lies. That would make it worthwhile in the end.
Reminds me of the whole issue with Obama's friend getting arrested for being uncooperative with that police officer. Did that officer and their department ever get an apology btw?
Apology? Why? Forget about it. I'm not saying the officer was totally in the wrong, but he didn't help. The parties agreed that both made mistakes. Why can't you? Let me guess....
Baron Von Breitbart is the bigot's version of David Koresh. All bully control freak on the outside, liar and bigot on the inside and whipped cream where brains should be. This puff pants boy needs Mommy to tan his tender little hide.
AND THERE IT IS. Tony has finally "spoken" the real purpose of the Obama Administration, to 'ban" conservative points of view, to control the MSM (main stream media) and create a true socialistic society where you can only have one ideology.
The problem with this video is not what is said, it is the reaction of the crowd, NAACP members, when she said she did not do all she that could have done for this "white man", the crowd applauded. THAT, Tony, is RACISM.
I agree, the Obama Administrationa, the AG Secretary and the NAACP owe this woman an apology and her job back. We conservatives owe her nothing. The video proported to be an example of NAACP racism and it is just that. The NAACP decided to make her the scapegoat.
How do you know they weren't agreeing with having the feelings the woman had at the beginning, and the redemption at the end too?
The good news is (hopefully) that any story will be thoroughly scrutinized and called out on lies instead of taken at face value. That might not be good news for the republicans, who are good at making things up to suit their propaganda.
You're a sick little puppy, aren't you? "Ban" conservative points of view? Where've you been living. We have conservative points of view stuffed down our throats 24/7. I don't see any movement on the left to stop their speech. We're spending all our time batting down their willful lies. Please explain your support for these jerks.
Patricia Paulson...If conservatism has grown boring take a good look at who represents you people. Limbaugh? Hannity? Coulter? Malkin? Beck? These are the kinds of people your ideology most adores? Honey child, if that's the sum total of the brains in your ideology, you need to go back to school and tell those cheapo legislations who stinted on your education to put more money into your schools and less into the military industries. The only war with ideology is in the dumbasses who fall for it.
paulsen, britefart's video is a lie. it's edited to be a lie. watch the real video from the NAACP conference, the whole thing. Sherrod's an honest woman who learned a lesson about overcoming racism and wanted to share it. Listen to 2 farmers whom she helped. Britefart manipulated it, twisting the truth into a lie...
The problem with tea partiers is that they're not smart enough to know when they're being lied to.
The problem with this video is not what is said, it is the reaction of the crowd, NAACP members, when she said she did not do all she that could have done for this "white man", the crowd applauded. THAT, Tony, is RACISM.
Yes, it's racism… Did it not occur to you that she may have been telling this story to that crowd for a reason? It seems clear that she felt it was the type of crowd that could benefit from what she learned. What do you think it proves? That all African Americans are racist? If that's the case than since a handful of idiots in the Tea Party are clearly bigots, they must all be right?
Joe: how can you say this video is a lie? Sherrod admitted to saying it....but the audience clapped, laughed and cheered as she made racist remarks. they did NOT know how her speech was going to end. They thought it was funny since the remarks and comments by Sherrod were directed to a white man. The rest of the tape didn't really have any significance at that point. Point being: Blacks can be racists too. The problem is the Obama administration did not bother to check out the facts, nor give Sherrod an opportunity to explain the video. Typcial. So, don't talk about who is "smart"....
What about Britebart? What about FOX News ShuggarBear? They jumped the gun faster than anyone and then have the hypocrisy to disparage the Obama Administration for doing what they did first. I agree that the OA jumped the gun, and what's sad is that they would assume for a second that anything that came from either Britebart or FOX could have any veracity whatsoever.
"blacks can be racist too" Your distasteful tone is so obvious, and your rush to disparage the Obama Administration for something, anything is what robs you and people like you from any degree of credibility in mainstream society.
I'm gonna' go ahead and call BS on this statement that it was really about the NAACP. Why cut the video? It may have in part been. But nothing this man is doing is helping race relations in this country by "reporting" as he has done.
So you're saying, that when she claimed she denied the white farmer the aid she could have given him, all the cheering from the NAACP members is not racsim. This is where the NAACP is wrong. They are racist. And you are just an idiot for dismissing it.
You think this is all the videos we have at the tea party?? HAHAHA Just wait till it gets closer to November.
Why post a video to demonstrate the NAACP is racist when the video (the whole video) shows just the opposite?
because, just like in the ACORN "pimp/prostitute" story, the damage is already done and the retraction will be on page 47.
Breitbart and Fox know exactly what they are doing. Everyone only cares about the story for one day anyway, so smear with lies on day one, and who cares what happens after that.
Lesson of the day: If Andrew Breitbart says something, it's a bald faced lie.
You're angry because the NAACP asked the tea party to repudiate racist factions in their ranks. Racist factions who speak out publicly. Racists factions who are showing emotions they don't even realize are racists and full of anger sometimes. Racists factions who know exactly what they are saying other times. Its one thing to say, "Hey Tea Party can you tell your members and leaders to stop saying slavery was good for 'coloured' people?" It's another thing to take an event and a speech out of context and ENCOURAGE anger and hate through the public's reaction. That's all this tape did.
There are racists of every creed and color. It's never okay. The way this man brought it up, with a cut/edited tape of a woman who was talking about how she learned a valuable lesson about race is NOT way to do it. It was to bring out more anger and hate, not to being to have a valuable dialog about the problem. If you think revelation "for the good of this country" was his purpose, then you should not call others idiots.
How do you know they weren't agreeing with the feelings she had at first? You can't just pick the first part of their reaction, and since the story is the opposite of what was first portrayed, I'll assume they also agreed with the last part of redemption.
Awed and Amazed - Well said, I am somewhat of an 'on the fence' tea party member. I like the ideas of getting the government to stick with the constitution, and definitely agree that our current political system is becoming more and more broken every year. However, the local site I was participating in had a couple of pretty radical people that always felt the need to post their far out ideas and act as though the whole Tea Party supported them. I chose to stop associating with that site as I have no desire to be grouped in with their type.
This whole "clapped and applauded" argument is so typical. This must be the latest talking point on Hannity's website, am I right? I think the right stinks like yesterday's garbage.
rugby, don't you know anything about editing??? britefart overlaid some of Sherrod's comments with the sounds of clapping from other parts of the speech. If you want the truth, watch the entire speech. If you want to believe in lies, just watch britefart's hack job. you're just being fooled by video editing because you like the lie better than the truth.
Awed and Amazed...And if the small narrow minds of the right wing neoconservatives are this militant, imagine what they'd have done if Hillary or any woman won the election in 2008? I can just see it now. Neocons jumping on board to dash to pieces any legislation that prevents restraining orders against predators and wife batterers...led of course by that wizard of the skirt chasing world...Newt Gingrich and helped along by Pretty Pants Lindsay Graham.
It was hysterical last night listening to a news broadcast with Newtie Babes ranting about Obama when he himself has more sins than there are stones to throw. A man who leaves his wife while she has cancer is a cancer.
I'm sorry to have to say this, but you are both an idiot and a poster child for birth control. You persistently ignore the fact that this tape was a gross distortion of what occurred and still seize on this scene of people clapping. Do we have to draw you little diagrams with stick figures on them? My dog has more intelligence.
Cute ewent...
Nice try at trying to create the next great disenfranchised group.
I'm never going to understand the mentality of those who get ahead by touting victimhood as virtue!
PS: you're an idiot (in case you haven't figured it out yet)
nonjko...Nice try Nonny. But, the slaves brought to this country to accommodate cheapass plantation owners were not disenfranchised.
You are the ignorant right wing mentality that actually believes anyone sees you as valid in this human race. As for idiot, you should have my brains pallie. Maybe, you wouldn't have such a fathead bully attitude.
Shawn...How many centuries passed before black people were allowed to walk through the same doors you do? To my knowledge, it has only been approximately 40 years. I was in Tampa Florida in 1964 and was appalled to see the signs above those college doors "Whites Only" "Blacks Only". So don't you dare try to imply that this is ancient history.
You have had certain rights as a white person blacks have not had. It was in the 60's that the then governor of MS stood at the head of the crowd that barred the door to a school to keep segregation in place. People like you are despicable. You only want to retain supremacy over others so you can insure that your insecurities remain as unstable and hidden from view as possible.
Shawn: agree! have you ever heard of an "all white school"? OMG yet, The Black Panthers can threaten white people and that's ok? NAACP needs new leadership or something.....and the Black Panthers should be held accountable, but they weren't...but yet the white people are racist??????
Also, is it just me, or is everyone sick of hearing how the Blacks were mistreated "back when"??? Agreed, That was a terrible time! Slavery was wrong, but a lot of white people fought and died to change things! A lot of blood was shed for the black's freedom from slavery! The whites of today didn't do it, and the blacks of today didn't go through it! Everyone wants "equality" then EVERYONE needs to have to follow the same rules.....
Ewent: i do remember those times, and I agree with you...that was totally WRONG. But progress has been made...look at who we have as our President today! Just because things "use" to be bad doesn't mean that blacks shouldn't be treated, judged, and held responsible just the same as white people. A lot of people have been persecuted, either by race, gender or religion. I think it is time the "race card" was put to rest.
shuggarbear...I'd normally agree with that and do when it is appropriate but I read this attack by Breitbart as a setup to frame the presidency as a failure simply to prove black inferiority. Take a look at Breitbarts pasty face and tell me he isn't a son of the old brutal Aryan supremacists.
OMG you called me "fathead"! It's so kindergarten for someone so allegedly wise and aged. You speculated of what might happen had Hillary been elected. Though not overt, your connotation was that "even if Obama is black, the white man is still more accepting of a black male president than a white female one." It's subtle. You can deny it. But that's what you meant. You can deny this too but you were in fact trying to put women in the lunch line right behind the Sharptons and New Black Panthers as the next group to undertake "the struggle". It's not race baiting, it's gender baiting. I can see your pathos from here! (yes, you can take a sec and google it wiseguy)
You are proof that with age does not necessarily come wisdom. Too bad the internet provides you with the kind of anonymity that allows you to inflate who you really are since you cannot stand on your ideas and words alone. Given your juvenile use of speech, reasoning and vernacular, my guess is you are really an unemployed twentysomething pseudollectual who "hopes that change" comes on my taxpaying dollar and rouses to any cause that your pot smoking barrista friend mentions to you while beating a drum on Earth Day. (there's something hateful for you to whine about)
BTW, don't presume to give orders here. Anyone here can imply any damn thing they want. You certainly don't have any hangups about making implications yourself. Suck it up and drive on. If you don't like it, offer reasoned thought not faux indignation, self-righteous martyrdom or baseless appeal to unsubstantiated authority.Otherwise, stay at the shallow end of the kiddie pool junior.
ewent: hmmm i don't know. so, you think breitbart knew that the Obama admin would automatically fire this lady without even checking out the facts? why would you think that type of action would be taken? i would have never thought of that.
well, let's just say you are right about breitbart, but that still doesn't say a lot for Obama's staff, does it? i think (especially since this video came from Fox) that the Obama staff would have checked it out first, and would have at least given the lady an opportunity to defend herself before pressuring her to resign. "Act first and get the facts later" kind of thing doesn't make me feel too good about decisions being made that will effect us all. Surely you will agree with me that if our President is that easily swayed or set up, that couldn't be a good sign! (by the way, thanks for your conversation on this, as i said, i am new to all of this!) :)
Right on! He intentionally distorted the video to make her sound like a racist and fit his agenda. His excuse is totally lame, no more honest than his original ploy.
The NAACP caught out playing it's own game. Sounds fair to me.
Now POTUS looks fairly ill-informed again by 'shooting the messenger' instead of asking 'why did Ms. Sherrod make that commentary to that audience at that time, and how did they (NAACP) respond then? Surely Ms. Sherrod also played ot her audience at the time, but she seems to have been the baby thrown out with the bathwater.
Those 'involved' (not the same as committed: ask the pig) may grant 'the Revered Dr.' Jesse jJckson and apology when he apologizes for his behavior in substantive ways. Until then, I remain disaffected with nearly all political entities and special interest groups who see only (choose your minority status) as the basis for political action.
All men and women are created equal. Nuff said. We need a re-run of September 1814.
The NAACP caught out playing it's own game. Sounds fair to me.
Ding. Ding. The NAACP takes a few bad apples and tries to paint the entire Tea Party as a racist organization last week.
The tape clearly shows the NAACP crowd applauding/cheering when they thought the part of her story about denying the white farmer his due was true.
Pot - meet kettle. Bad apples on both sides. Nothing new to see here except this woman get screwed over by the blogger, the NAACP, and the Obama Administration.
Did they disagree with the latter part of the story, you know, the REAL part? The epiphany part? I didn't think so. They were probably agreeing with her FEELINGS at first AND her redemption at the end.
If the crowd was just relating to her feelings as you suggested, they were still relating to racism. The point is, they agreed and cheered about the racial bias BEFORE they knew where the story was heading. Wether or not they agreed with the redemption portion is moot.
TEDD1975...Does it ever occur to you that this only makes high minded Americans more ashamed that we live among the world's worst racists? Does it ever enter your mind that what really happened here was that Von Breitbart tried to make a fool of our president and now he's looking like the jerk he really is?
Fact...Von Breitbart is a fool. He didn't win in his game to make the president look stupid. All he did was prove what we all know about right wing neocons...they are bred in the bone racists.
Why do you assume they didn't know where the story was going? Did you hear them boo at the end of the story? See, the kind of assumptions you are making tell a story too. Bottom line, you and everyone else have NO IDEA what the audience was thinking. I just gave you an alternative.
Great post- the problem that I see with this whole incident- we were not the slave generation, nor the "owner"generation.Everyone needs to stop looking at people in colors. No ones skin determines what they can become, or who they are.
And less conversation about "those people" would make us all better people. Some of my best friends, and business associates are people of color.Never once have I thought about their color, but the goodness of their hearts.
Wish that people, no matter where they come from would learn to think not of color, but of value
shuggar...If not all conservatives are racists, why are none of the conservative spokespeople out there standingon the courage of their convictions that this guy Breitbart is nothing more than a racist?
He dug and dug until he found the most selective piece he could from 24 years ago. Then, his right wing defenders say that's the correct thing to do when they can't even bear to look at what their president did to innocent Iraqis and his own military not 3 years ago.
It's beyond the pale to ask us to place significance on something 24 years old when they won't reciprocate by doing the same for something that's barely 3 years old.
ewent: i cannot honestly disagree with you about Breitbart since i have not done my research on him. i just take offense to the remark that all conservatives are racists. From what i do know about this particular incident I do believe that Breitbart was wanting information to show that blacks can also make racist remarks, and that it isn't always white people that are racists. i think the incident with the Black Panthers, as well as the constant remarks about the Tea Party struck a nerve...a lot of people are passionate about what they believe. I don't think Brietbart was trying to ruin the lady or anything other than making a point about racists. Fox news did show the entire report, saying there was more to the video. I didn't feel they misled me in any way. I think she should have at least been given the chance to explain and defend herself before being forced to quit her job though. I think that was handled poorly by the Obama admin. That is just the way i see things.....
Really, Tyler? You suspend someone for calling someon else a left wingnut socialist lover but do seem to mind when people on here call other right wing nut jobs, jerks, methheads, and myriad of other posts that attack conservatives posting on here. Give me a break! I'm not condoning those that break the rules here but at least enforce them equally for both sides!
STLMILE, I agree with you 100% Tyler you are wrong and you have to be fair here. But, I guess if you suspend everyone for name calling for a day There would not be hardly anyone left huh? Be FAIR PLEASE
In my humble opinion, this blogger knew what he did was wrong. The media did not misconstrue anything...The public reacted to the 'limited' information/soundbite the blogger presented. Shame on him and the NAACP for the actions and reaction of both. Shame on the public for not putting the entire piece into context...Truly, this situation has shown that we are far from being over our prejudices..not just black/white, but a people prejudice....
Praying...I have a prejudice...right wing ideology. I detest it with a passion because it has more than any other element divided this country. I detest it because it allows people like Limbaugh to incite the most impressionable, least educated Americans to levels of militancy that borders on another Civil War and all because we voted for a man who happens to have a different color skin. How stupid are these bigots anyway?
They walk around with chests puffed out, fat jelly bellies and big butts with mouths as big as some cow's butt and then expect all of us to just take what they dish out. These are the most insecure bunch of big babies and overindulged cretons to come out of daycare.
snoozer...This president has been put in the most awful position of having to avoid appearing to take sides simply because he is half black. I see him as a president far more deserving of credit than many before him. I thought Clinton was a genius. But Obama is far more intelligent. He has to stop worrying about the right wing media. Loss of their votes is no loss at all. And, he'd never have gotten their votes anyway.
When you consider that they've thus far voted into office 4 puppets starting with Reagan, you can see the mentality and level of president they want: someone they can push around. To me, Obama is the perfect combination of brains, diplomacy and a team player.
I had to laugh when i read your post for Snoozer. You honestly do not think Obama is a puppet? that is too funny.....do some research (Does Sorocco ring a bell?)
A team player does not proceed to pass bills that the majority of the Americans do NOT want, nor agree with. A true diplomat defends and protects his country and the states within! A true diplomat places value and pride on his military. I do agree with one thing you said: Obama is intelligent. He knows exactly what he is doing. If you do not know what side he is on by now, then i will not ruin the surprise by telling you!
shuggarbear..I know for certain Obama is not a puppet. He makes his own decisions. That's the gripe you right wingers all have with him. That he can make decisions without having to consult with partisans. You want us to forget that Obama DID offer Republicans the bi-partisan olive branch in January 2009 only to have it thrown back in his face? You know what I do with people like that? They cease to exist. Obama doesn't have that luxury. So don't tell me he's a puppet.
He was elected by the people, for the people and of the people. Not for Big Oil, By Big Oil And Of Big Oil like Bush. Arbusto Oil remember?
Ewent: who said i was a right winger? maybe i am just an American and call it like i see it?
I have never been into politics much, and am learning a lot now, but i am not blind. i know that Obama supposedly came from a poor family yet attended the most expensive colleges in the US. I know that he had his finger in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pie...I know that he promotes the Muslim faith and is trying to erase God from our country and our lives. I know that he doesn't respect our flag, nor our military. I know that he is suppose to be our Defender and Chief, yet will not protect our own states from harm. And I do know that so far it seems that he is not really focused on what is best for us as Americans, since he continues to pass bills/laws that the majority of America does NOT want. But, like I said: I really don't know a lot about politics, I am just learning.....
Are we really supposed to take this seriously? The comments were out of context? How? Let's be honest, there are likely minor elements of any organization that have racist tendencies including the Tea Party and NAACP, but that doesn't make either organization racist. It's wrong for the NAACP to call the Tea party racist because they have no facts to back that up. This video provides footage of a speech that has racial overtones. I don't see how the comments can be sugar-coated with some additional context. That said, I don't believe there is evidence that the NAACP is a racist organization.
The NAACP didn't say that the tea party was a racist organization, they said they have racist elements within the organization and they should do more to discourage them. Sherrod's comments have not been sugar-coated. If you read the articles, they clearly say that she told a story to show how you can overcome prejudice. The white farmers have clearly come forward and testified to how tirelessly she worked for them and they credit her with saving their farm.
You know, I think McBob brings up a better point. We all knew that after FOX lied and mislead its viewers to unfairly destroy ACORN, that they'd do it again, and the question was only "who?" Isn't it a funny coincidence that just a few days after the tea party movement takes a massive hit for its tolerance of racists, that out of nowhere another secret, edited tape pops up that they thought would make the NAACP look racist? They obviously found their next target, and the question is whether people, most specifically the white house, actually learn the lessons of the past and stop believing FOX News. They LIE. It's what they DO. Time to stop falling for their crap.
McBob, the title of NAACP is racist in nature. Why should an organization use race in their title, as evidenced by "colored people". The NCAAP, I am sure does some things for people that aren't black(or colored), but why doesn't the NAACP uppdate their title to the 20 or 21st century? Because they remain racist is the answer.
Dasvet...Not only are your posts ignorant but they prove you have a very convenient memory. Are we all supposed to forget how we up north allowed the crud in the south to treat other human beings and get away with it?
Are we supposed to just bury the 4 girls killed in that MS church because Harley that good ole boy and other racists before him believed they were so superior a race that murder was condoned?
If you have to ask why the NAACP was formed, you are either pretending ignorance or you're Rip Van Winkle and slept through 200 years of southern slavery.
The administratuion should reinstate Mrs Sherrod immediatly. The review of what took place should focus on who in the administration requested/demanded her resignation. That individual along with any official supporting such rapid action without allowing Mrs Sherrod to respond or...validate the information is not fit to administer a hot dog stand let alone any high office. I voted for the current administration..but if this isnt rectified as quickly as she was dismissed ...I will become an ardent supporter to see they are removed from office!!! This is incontionable on so many levels. Mrs Sherrod is an example of the kind of support and care low income people deserve!! Hows them Apples!!!
If Andy Breithbart point that its not about Shirley Sherrod ...its about NAACP ... Then Mr Breithbart, Why use Ms Shirley Sherrod .... Could Mr Breithbart not made his point about NAACP without throwing Shirley sherrod under the Bus ..... I think Mr Breithbart is a low-life who took a lam (Shirley) and threw it to a pack of wolfs/lion .... ... Mr Breithbard be man enough to go after NAACP without taking innocent people down the river with you .. .... Mr Breithbart - You are a sick person that takes your personal vendetta against NAACP and use Shirley Sherrod to do it ....
A good woman lost her job. How many good people lost their job because naacp played parts of tapes, then called them racist? Better just said they were. Looks like naacp plays then other side can play, but naacp will call them racist for playing their game. Maybe naacp should look at what they have done over the years and plan on seeing more of their game happening to them
Why do you people keep calling this a game? It's not.
a. Do you have proof of people losing their jobs because the NAACP falsely called them racist and what happened if the truth was revealed?
b. Two wrongs don't make a right. We keep this up and this country is going to collaspe. Its sick that people are "relishing" when things like this happen.
Really, RedNecked John? You have to post virtually the same post TWICE? In the same thread? Really? Redundant: see Rednecked John from Tennerrssee. OK. For the sake of the fascist Republican American idiots who need to see it multiple times... right John? Here is the original response to Redneck John, and his whining.
Another redneck from the south. Probably votes fascist Repub because daddy did. Hasn't had an original thought since the capacity was beaten out of him behind a toolshed. Resents any who do not have white skin and a reddened neck. Probably sings Toby Keith "boot-to-arse" songs in the shower, and thinks that makes him an American. And... like the good fascist drone that he is... here is is on newsvine... trying to turn the obvious fascist dirty tricks around.... to make it appear that the white man is being abused. Poor white guys. Let's all have a good cry for all the poor white guys who have been discriminated against for hundreds of years.... while we disregard all the white guys that chained up black people, kidnapped them, beat them, loaded them onto boats like cord wood, killed them, raped them, and sold them like property... for generations. All of that is NOTHING compared to some dopey white redneck from Tennessee... who feels he didn't get his prized job at the pig processing plant, because of "equal opportunity".
Now... John from Tennessee... if you want to shill for the fascists... you might as well go back to just being unemployed and unskilled. You failed at shilling. Yes, you probably failed at being employed too... but at least being employed is honorable. Shilling for fascists is not.
Mongo Lloyd...Can the ESP. You have no idea who John is. And, last time I checked there was NO judge by the name of Mongo Lloyd. Your post gives truest meaning to why people need to mind their OWN business.
I want an investigation period on Briebert and where this video originated from and in what form it was delivered in whole or part. Having said all that I also want an investigation on NAACP on how the video was taken from their servers if it wasn't available publicly until yesterday. Also to be "Fair and Balanced" I wonder if Mrs. Sherrod would have used the same words and mannerism in her speech if she were speaking to an all white crowd.
"Also to be "Fair and Balanced" I wonder if Mrs. Sherrod would have used the same words and mannerism in her speech if she were speaking to an all white crowd."
Irrelevant. Sherrod was neither speaking nor acting as a racist. Breitbart created a deliberately misleading tape and Fox ran with it. Both are race-baiters relying on hysterical white fear / indignation / guilt to propel their repulsive ideology.

Far from irrelevant because the words used, the applause recieved, the place the speech was given are very real; is what created the situation or there would not have been one. Nice dismiss but denied all facts count
Really entirely with one broad sweeping brush there wasn't perhaps two wrongs? Although one grossly out shadowing the other. You also know that Briebart edited the video? I'm paying cash for the proof? I personally think Briebart is a piece of crap he had a golden oppurtunity to amend wrong doing via either crappy reporting, or perhaps worse race baiting, or perhaps by being set up.... either way we need answers and my point is nobody has those facts. Denied
I think a lot of people are pretty anxious ( a little TOO anxious) to show racism coming from the other side. Hence the need to misrepresent something that happened over 20 years ago and totally turn it into the opposite of what was meant. This seems to happen A LOT on the right, just thinking about that pimp/acorn lie and how it accomplished what they wanted, and it was based on lies and misrepresentations. The good news is that maybe now the media will call out these lies from now on instead of just blindly accepting them as truth.
Lib50, I will agree with that all day long but it has to go both ways equally and that starts with reporting findings, facts, and removing personal bias. We have all been snookered but its not by Fox its by politicians and ALL of the media industry they are pulling the strings now. If i had to boil it down to two it would be Fox and MSNBC. Either way I'm pleased to see some centered thinking in these threads versus all one way or the other.... you know black and white... blaahahahaha
How easy it is to snatch a piece of clipped and edited tape, use it to push a very partisan position that the entire tape does not support, then wash one's hands like Pontius Pilate of the consequences for the person on the tape. Sharrod had no axe to grind and you made her a player in your own twisty version of politics. I find it ironic that the right, which so frequently plays these games, never corrects their own mistakes. You play— someone else pays the price. For Shame. PCinKC
First, while I don't condone what Breitbart did, it is NOT his job to find out what really occurred that night. The media, NAACP and White House didn't look into the incident more diligently, which would have shown what actually occurred. For that reason, the egg is on their faces, not his. Second, I understand completely why she wouldn't want to go back to her old job. Why go back to a place that didn't believe in you from the start? Third, all of this (the Tea Party, the Birthers, this incident, etc.) proves to me that despite all the rhetoric, we are NOT post-racial; as a matter of fact we are much farther from it than anyone thinks.
Sure he should. He has a responsibility to put the information into context. This confusion would not have been started if he did just that. No, we are not post-racial. We ALL have prejudices/biases with everyone, regardless of it is due to characteristics, ethnicities, etc. The point is to look past our bias and embrace the uniqueness of every individual-as different or similar as we are.
Don't be ridiculous. Breitbart (who almost certainly had access to the entire video) and Fox declared Sherrod a racist and deliberately suggested she'd made the falsely-presented comments while working for the government, rather than decades earlier.
You don't get to lie and then blame someone else for not catching you at it, for Christ's sake. Breitbart is a liar and a defamer and a racist, period.
First, while I don't condone what Breitbart did, it is NOT his job to find out what really occurred that night
while it is not his job to find out if what he is reporting is true (which it is not), he should be careful in the future. After ACORN and now this, people are catching on to the lies he spews on a daily basis. If he's not careful, I see a slander lawsuit coming his way (One of the former Acorn employees fired after the edited "pimp/prostitute" scandal has already done so).
Michael - if Breitbart calls himself a journalist, it is certainly his job to present a full picture. Even if he is not, he clearly intended to deceive people by presenting the clip as something other than it was. We all should have some principles and standards that guide our behavior. As human beings we need to ask ourselves if our intentions and actions are honorable before we proceed. Where are the men (and women) of honor?
Well, I think that you have valid points. The fact is that media in all forms routinely accept whatever is put out on the wire, and investigative journalism is about dead. And the NAACP and the Obama administration seemed to have a sort of knee-jerk reaction to it all. These are tense times, which sometimes inspires wrong action, but I would not say it was their responsibility to validate the video.
That said, I don't agree that Breitbart had no responsibility to investigate himself before promoting the material. He is certainly responsible for verifying the accuracy of what he puts out there, especially since he understands that among his very partisan group of readers, his word is accepted as truth.
Second, I don't for one minute think that Breitbart was not complicit in the matter. I believe that he knew full well that the video was materially altered, perhaps even participated in the distortion, to have ammo for one of the far right memes - "the NAACP is racist."
I think to believe anything else would be profoundly naive, especially given Breitbart's track record for lying and distorting facts. Look at something as minor as his disingenuous dissembling about this incident. The fact is that he used falsified evidence to support an unsupportable perspective. Rather than face the absence of evidence for his perspective and acknowledge the truth that his belief is probably not correct, he decided to blame the NAACP for distorting his intentions in releasing the video.
Whenever anyone is more interested in promoting material that supports their beliefs than the facts, there is going to be lying and deception and Breitbart's cynical manipulation of his followers is a case in point.
Why is it not Mr. Breitbart's job to get all the information before posting on the website? Would this not be slander? He has mislead everyone amd he is responsible for starting this mess. The USDA and the NAACP should be ashamed of themselves for not checking it out also. They all need to publicly apologize to Mrs. Sherrod, Pay her for her Troubles and quit being racist. Yes I believe that Mr. Breitbart, the USDA and the NAACP are racist. If they aren't, this talk that Mrs. Sherrod gave at the NAACP would not have bothered them so much.
First, while I don't condone what Breitbart did, it is NOT his job to find out what really occurred that night.
Excuse me? If Breitbart is representing himself as a legitimate representative of the media, it was very much his responsibility to "find out what really occurred". Granted, obtaining all the facts on a situation seems to be a skill that many people in the media, on both ends of the political spectrum, are lacking. Still, if Breitbart wants to maintain a reputation for reliability and truth, he might want to do a better job of researching what he blogs about.
So Breitbart and Fox intended to smear the NAACP, no Sherrod and ... that's supposed to be okay, somehow?
Breitbart is a race-baiting utterly dishonest liar who, with the eager assistance of Fox, torpedoed ACORN with one false video, and now has done the same with a truly decent USDA worker. That's all there is to it.
P.S. A significant element of the Tea Party "movement" (re-branded Republicans) are racists.
Breitbart is not a journalist - news organizations, the white house and everyone else should just ignore this guy now - if Fox wants to put his stuff out there then let them be the only ones.
On the Teat Party: There is a bigoted strain there - I see the signs in my area and are familair with some of the folks involved - I know where they stand. It is a nativist movement like the Know-Nothings and the 'American' party of the 19th century, except then it was the target was the Irish...
Ms. Sherrod - If you want to put a stop to this type of behavior and prevent this (or worse) from happening to others, sue Rupert Murdoch for slander and go for every penny he's got. He's welll aware of what happens within his company and so must have approved of the release of the edited tape.
And can someone PLEASE tell me why the FCC hasn't yanked Fox's license?
Are you Kidding? ABC, NBC & CBS DO NOT GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to lie like FOX does. Do a google search on Rupert Murdock... He openly states that he only hires people who will tell the news (fixed) the way he wants it told. I have on occasion tried to watch FOX and am always appalled with their ugly, hateful so called reporting.. Rupert is out to do one thing & that is to make money. Truth be dammed. And remember he was the one who said if George Bush was elected President the price of a barrel of oil would go down to $20.00 a barrel... OOPS!
Rupert will always try to ruin a democratic president & back a republican. After all the Grand Old Party is all about helping business and the rich. After 8 years of Bush the middle class has been reduced by 5.3 million more peole who are now on the rolls of proverty... but the rich sure got a lot richer... Again, I ask, why would you vote against your own best interest?
Actually I think Gina is right, the rich got richer during the 8 years of Bush/Cheney and let's not forget they led Congress and the rest of their Republican ilk to believe that Saddam was behind 9/11 thus their excuse to invade Iraq. Well, we all know there were no wmd in Iraq and meanwhile the Taliban regained strength in Afghanistan because of the diverted interest.
This news story about Mrs. Sherrod is just another example of how the right wingers will edit the heck out of something to make her look bad and get her fired. When the farmer in question comes to her defense you know things have been misconstrued. She should get her job back, and we definitely need to keep Obama in office, otherwise there will only be the uber-rich and the poor without a middle-class.
Ed Ed Ed really! As I recall the Republicans led Congress for 6 of the 8 years of Bush/Cheney and have continued to lead it to this point. I am sure you never have taken the time to see the photographs of the Kurdish women and children that Hussein gassed with Saran gas (which is I believe classified as a WMD) And I suppose that 90+% Democrat support for the Iraq invasion makes them Republican ilk? You are simple living proof that the facts always get in your way of thinking. And if grate leader does somehow become a two term wonder which is so unlikely, there will be only the elite ruling class and the poor. Wake up Sir and get control of your facts or you might just look around and say "Wait this is not America" but if that were to happen I am certain it would be the fault of the super mind melding Bush/Cheney team. You really are sad with the continued blame after such a long period of time. With you folks your errors are to be overlooked or forgotten post haste and the other sides errors are to be remembered FOREVER. There are still some buffoons who blame problems on Reagan who was President with a Democrat controlled Congress and accomplished many positive things for the country, but again the facts get in the way of the revisionist theory. Fact the majority of the media is left wing and far left at that. Fact they manipulated the facts and are responsible for grate leaders nomination and election. Fact Bush and the Republican controlled Congress made some rather significant mistakes and were replaced BECAUSE of them something that thus far will never happen to a Democrat because you do not hold your party accountable for their errors you blame Bush/Cheney. And the final fact IF it is a given that right winger will edit the heck out of something then wouldn't you think that the all superior left wing would LISTEN to the woman and LOOK at the entire tape BEFORE firing her? You are just sad Sir and that's the way it is July 22, 2010.
Apparently Obama and the NAACP also believe what he dishes out too? No?
The good news in this is that the lies will no longer be passed over with the assumption it is true. Good news for Americans, bad news for republicans, who seem to excel in lies and misrepresentations.
The NAACP and the White House were amazingly gullible. All they had to do was to keep in mind this tried-and true principle: if a conservative right winger says something, it is probably a lie.
I doubt seriously they felt they had a choice in this instance. Breitbart was deliberately fueling the flame of racism the right has been building for the last 2 years, and NOT reacting to his libelous video was not a viable option in present circumstances. Had they delayed long enough to investigate, Breitbart et al would simply have jumped on them for "stalling," just as they spread the New Black Panthers crap and the Acorn crap. These people are venomous, period. Only when the American public smartens up and the left becomes as vocal in condemning such actions as the Right has been with its disinformation campaign can we hope to curb the infectious spread of such rot.
Zorro: sounds like your theory is: Who are you going to believe, the Democrats or your lying eyes?! funny
The Black Panther incident happened..Acorn happened...Sherrod admitted to making these racist remarks..... Breitbart was trying to make a point. He never intended for Sherrod to be fired, only to show not only white people can be racist.
You are a pig Mr. Breitpart. A pig! Trying to shift blame off your useless butt! I hope you suffer financially for this. That's the only area I think you can get hurt since you have no heart! You are a race baiter and a pig!
Conservative Breitbart says media, government 'misconstrued' video
Breitbart is the one who edited the video to support his dishonorable charge of racism.
If the NAACP wanted to talk about "Racial Reconciliation" 24 years ago, they should be applauded.... It's people like racist Breitbart who fuel racism in America
BREITBART SHOULD BE SUED FOR EVERY ASSET HE HAS ---- BREITBART.COM SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN
I couldn't agrree more. The lying scumbucket Breitbart obviously went to a great deal of trouble to "cut and paste" the original video so that it conveyed the exact opposite impression from what actually happened. This is premeditated deception with malice, and it should cost Breitbart financially.
So, explain to me. When she describes her encounter with the white farmer and her not giving him her 100%, they all cheer and clap. That my friend is racism (in a NAACP conference) none the less. You can't spin it any other way.
Jim your an idiot. The video was taken at an NAACP event the reason only part of it was shown was so people could see the racist elements of the NAACP clap and cheer when she said she didn't help the farmer as much as she could have because she felt he thought he was superior. It had nothing to do with context. If an official were white and claimed the same thing about a black farmer at a Tea Party Rally you and all the other Liberal idiots woud riot in the streets just like they did in Oakland. You are also glossing over the fact that your Socialist Messiah was a member of a highly racist church and a close friend of the Racist Rev. Wright. The so called journalist in this country conspired to bury this story and call other people racist so they could get Obama ahead of Clinton in the primary. When do you become outraged that the media is corrupt in this country? When they have different perspective than you do? You can scream about Fox news all you want but at least they ran the story about voter intimidation and the Black Panthers and gave the leader of the New Black Panther party a chance to come on and give his side of the story. The rest of your so called journalist didn't even cover the story because it would effect THEIR CHOSEN Candidate and make the guy THEY think should be President look bad. If we allow this to happen with any candidate what are you going to do when it isn't the guy you want in office? Typical Hypocrite Liberal you always approve of the message when you agree with it but you are the first one to cry and scream that Fox news should be run out of business when their message is something you dont approve of. You idiots think the only speech that is free and news worthy is what you agree with, to hell with the rest of the country because you Liberals are so much smarter than the rest of us and you know better than we do. You are nothing but a dumb ass sheep. I would rather be a shepherd so I can watch out for the Wolves in office...
seaking, you're really in no position to call anyone an idiot, since you obviously can't be bothered or are not intelligent enough to watch the WHOLE video BEFORE you spout off nonsense. Breitbart EDITED OUT bits and pieces to manipulate not only Sherrod's words but the audience's reactions. They are applauding her statement that God leads us where we should go (in her case, away from her initial reaction to the farmer). Breitbart removed the part where she says that and makes it seem as though her point ... and the applause ... is that initial reaction INSTEAD of her recognition that it was WRONG. Try thinking for yourself for once instead of just repeating what your fellow rightwing lemmings are saying. You'll have a lot more credibility that way.
agree with seaking- Jim your a moron. Breitbart is part of an organization that was slandered by the NAACP and was using the video against them. why on earth would he care about a single individual "just to fuel racism" have you even read the articles? I feel bad for the lady, I really do...but why on earth is it ok for a group of people to make up an organization to support "their own kind". The argument has gone on for years, if I start a group called the NAAWP 1. I would not get government funding to support the "pride" in my skin tone and further the advancement of them and 2. I would be considered a racist bigot. I fully support laws that prevent discrimination but that in itself is discrimation supported by the government.
You right wingnuts and your Messiah complex are getting more than a little old.
You want SO bad to paint blacks as racists you'll do anything. Of course racism exists on both sides, and the fringy panther group is as bad as the fringy teabag group (or their racist elements). I don't see black panther support from the left anywhere. As for the voter intimidation, since that HAS happened (where blacks were intimidated at polling places, I believe the guys in PA were trying to make sure it didn't happen there. Did you also rant against black voter intimidation? Because I don't recall anything happening with that either.
It's a TRAP, this was a setup, intentionally and deliberately manipulated and forced the “video” out of its original context into the direct opposite context to induce outrage against the enemy from which it was from which it was stolen.
Classic take the original from its source, modify it deliberately to make it look like the source, once revealed, accuse the interpreter of not searching original context.
“Fabricate evidence for your divorce, make entries in your wife’s secret diary showing her notes about the affair, and making a copy available to the judge, except you did not know the double copy your wife made when she was writing it.?
The smear potential has been transferred to the intended victims, the original exonerated the source, the manipulator escapes, the fabricated context displaces the original and the damage is done.
The Michael Steel video showing him as being against the Afghanistan war, was not UNINTENTIONAL, was part of the plan to transfer ownership of the war to the current administration.
These words belong to the Andrew Breitbart
Video Proof: The NAACP Awards Racism–2010, by Andrew Breitbart, Context is everything.
In this piece you will see video evidence of racism coming from a federal appointee and NAACP award recipient and in another clip from the same event a perfect rationalization for why the Tea Party needs to exist.
But first the context: For the past week, Americans who consider themselves aligned with the Tea Party movement have suffered the indignity of being falsely labeled racist by the NAACP and their pro-bono publicity managers, the main stream media. The constant calls to “repudiate the racists from your ranks” have not only been insulting, but have also served to force a false standard upon America’s fastest-growing and most vibrant political movement that no other group could ever live up to nor would ever be asked to live up to.
While the media has chosen to do the Democratic Party’s bidding in allowing for the NAACP to negatively and falsely brand the millions strong, loosely affiliated tea party phenomenon as “racist”, the moral indignation over race and racism has taken center stage in a summer of economic and political discontent.
The NAACP, an undeniable weapon in the Democratic Party’s arsenal, was more than happy to exploit this nation’s sensitive racial schism for possible political gain. The Democratic Party and the NAACP, needless to say, are playing with fire.
From the beginning of the Tea Party movement, the Left, its aiders and abettors at MSNBC, the NY Times and other reliable left of center propaganda venues, raised race as the driving force behind the movement, even though the evidence was never there. MSNBC even egregiously cut off a black protester’s head in a photograph of a man carrying a gun to a rally in order to discuss that anti-black racism was rearing its head in America.
But it got even more blatant when Congressmen Andre Carson and John Lewis and other Congressional Black Caucus members staged a walk through the Tea Party crowd in front of the capitol the day before the health care vote. They claimed they were threatened by a violent mob and were subjected to the vile N word slur fifteen times. With the unpopularity of the toxic health care bill that the majority of Americans did not want, the Democrats needed a November strategy. Neutralizing the growing Tea Party movement with charges of racism was clearly its post-health care reform vote priority.
What they did not expect was that new media would successfully challenge the propaganda of the old media and the Congressmen’s racial smear.
First, my $100,000 video challenge for any evidence of racism was met with crickets. The CBC, looking for a fight, and taking to the airwaves to accuse the Tea Party of racism made a 180 degree turn and went into hiding when challenged on the truthfulness of the outrageous allegations. From camera hogs to ostriches in snap of a finger.
When the media chose to ignore that Representatives Lewis and Carson’s story was falling apart, we dug deeper. We found four videos from the moment Rep. Carson claimed the racist Tea Party incident occurred. The four videos, which include audio, show beyond a reasonable doubt that the incident was a manufactured lie. That lie that was supposed to be the centerpiece in the Democratic strategy to destroy the Tea Party. The videos had been available on YouTube almost immediately after the incident occurred and could have been found by any reporter interested in investigating the truthfulness of Rep. Carson’s claim.
While the media ignored these newsworthy revelations, the CBC remained in hiding and ignored a letter in good faith from the Tea Party Federation repudiating all forms of racism, but also asking for the CBC’s help in investigating the Capitol Hill incident. The silence from the CBC was deafening.
The NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus do not want racial harmony. They want political victory, and the race card is their Stradivarius.
Three months later, the NAACP decided to “double-down” on the fabricated “”Tea Party/racism” narrative and has the gall to include the disproved Capitol Hill “N Word” non-incident as their formal condemnation of the Tea Party. Simply by snapping its figures, the mainstream media again parroted lies. The Tea Party was guilty until it proved itself innocent. A most un-American and, dare I say, culturally Marxist construct.
In fact, it’s worse. The media that provided the left a platform to accuse the Tea Party, all the while refusing to air any exculpatory evidence. Again, the mainstream media inserts itself as the number one weapon in the progressive weapons stash. Political correctness, as the Duke Lacrosse case exemplifiEd, trumps all in PC America and her afflicted media.
But the new media will not be silenced. It will not allow for the main stream media to propagate hateful and hurtful lies in order to save the Democratic Party from the toxic choices it has made over the past few years. And by bringing up race, and demanding a zero tolerance of racism, the left, and the NAACP in particular, has opened itself up for scrutiny.
We are in possession of a video from in which Shirley Sherrod, USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development, speaks at the NAACP Freedom Fund dinner in Georgia. In her meandering speech to what appears to be an all-black audience, this federally appointed executive bureaucrat lays out in stark detail, that her federal duties are managed through the prism of race and class distinctions.
In the first video, Sherrod describes how she racially discriminates against a white farmer. She describes how she is torn over how much she will choose to help him. And, she admits that she doesn’t do everything she can for him, because he is white. Eventually, her basic humanity informs that this white man is poor and needs help. But she decides that he should get help from “one of his own kind”. She refers him to a white lawyer.
Sherrod’s racist tale is received by the NAACP audience with nodding approval and murmurs of recognition and agreement. Hardly the behavior of the group now holding itself up as the supreme judge of another groups’ racial tolerance.
The second video affirms the real reason there is tension between the Democratic Party and a growing mass of middle Americans — and it’s not because of race.
The NAACP which has transformed from a civil rights group to a propaganda arm of the Democratic Party and social-justice politics, supports a new America that relies less on individualism, entrepreneurialism and American grit, but instead giddily embraces, the un-American notion of unaccountability and government dependence. Shirley Sherrod, a federal appointee who oversees over a billion dollars of federal funds, nearly begs black men and women into taking government jobs at USDA — because they won’t get fired.
This is why the Democratic Party is scared. This is why the NAACP is scared. This is why black conservatives, previously marginalized as “Uncle Toms” by these progressive bullies, and shamefully, the NAACP, are coming out of the woodwork to join and, in many cases, lead the Tea Party movement.
The emerging Tea Party nation understands that the media has focused on the manufactured racial schism while intentionally ignoring the schism between free market thinkers and government expansionists, that the latter of which is brazen in its desire to transform America into a European-model welfare state with a healthy dose of socialism.
It’s unfortunate that the NAACP’s recent resolution and false accusations have forced us to show you video 1 when video 2 is the bigger problem. That’s not to say video 1 is not a problem, but this country can ill afford, in this time of economic peril, to waste our time poking and prodding at the racial hornet’s nest that was supposed to have been removed with this post-racial presidency. But now President Obama and the modern-day Democrat party reveal they are anything but post-racial.
Yet again, the juxtaposition of the real video evidence shown here versus the mainstream media’s straight faced reportage of the NAACP’s baseless accusations demonstrates that, once again, the American main stream media has asserted itself as the number one enemy of the truth, when the facts don’t fit the left-wing narrative. Like the NAACP, it has become no better than Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in its willingness to exploit race for political ends and their unflinching support of the Obama’s left-wing agenda.
rugby, explain why you're defending some lying piece of garbage? is it because you agree with his politics? Do you believe lies that advance your political cause are OK?
Amen, Jim. These right wing imbeciles who keep promoting this BS of "Oh, no, duh, it wasn't about her, duh, uhm, duh, it was to show that there were people cheering at the NAACP. duh, that's what Glenn Beck says, so I believe it!" BS. The video was edited, MORONS. What this was, was a DELIBERATELY doctored and edited video by the right wing nut jobs to race bate and try to portray the NAACP as racist because they were pissed off that the NAACP said there were racist elements in the Tea Klux Klan. Well, guess what THE TEA KLUX KLAN IS RACIST NOT THE NAACP. They are still upset about the fact that African Americans have voting rights and no longer have to sit at the back of the bus. Well, this is America of 2010 NOT 1950. History has already condemned your philosophies and practices. You racist Tea Baggers will go to ANY lengths to try to discredit African Americans INCLUDING doctoring a video. If this racist piece of scum that posted it was only interested in showing the people SUPPOSEDLY cheering when she talked about not helping a white farmer, then why did he DELIBERATELY leave out the climax of her story where she repudiates (or as idiot Palin would say refudiates) these types of attitudes and practices? This was a game of "gotcha" by the right and they were the ones who ended up being "gotten" instead, so now they come out with the BS about only wanting to show the people at the NAACP cheering. What a bunch of liars. And if you are stupid enough to believe them, well, then there is not much hope for you.
Hey I am waiting for her to blame Bush....Since only the Blacks can have representation through the NAACP or any other orgainoztoion they form (Black cacuas etc) And White's can not form an all white group then who is there to call out the NACCP?
This story about Sherrod goes "deeper than the ocean". A tape surfaces from a while back, Sherrod claims it was out of context. The Conservatives posting it? How about the Neo Nazis who took off with this like the 4th of July on a website..
I saw the entire tape. She was very understanding of the Semantics of how blacks are treated vs. whites from her own background. She wanted to do this farmer a favor. It came out horribly wrong, to become one of the nastiest scandals in O's Admin. Was she influenced by the NAACP?
Who fired her? Who hired her? Is she another "Czar"; taking the responsibility for what the President should be involved in.
The NAACP---Rev. Jermiah Wright---all play into this drama. Gibbs gives a news conference and makes apologies from the President. Why didn't O directly make the apology. It is a sure thing the USDA Agriculture figurehead in caught in another "Gate" story. "Farmer Gate".
It will be interesting to watch how all of these people mentioned above will get their story together and get it straight. It is like the game "Clue", but clueless..
What is the truth, and how long will this coverup for all the serious issues that need to be taken care of by our President in office?
Is Sherry Sherrod a Racist being used as the scapegoat for the White House's pleasure. Somehow they are involved. Too much inexperience and no management skills as President do not work. I am truly sorry so many coverups have happened in the past 2 years.
All Presidents have their "bag" of coverups---but this is like a Tornado, which has struck on first base.
President Obama needs to really get serious about his job and get people back to work, not indulging all extended Unemployment checks. This is the first matter at hand; everything else is much too PETTY---especially his retaliation at people who criticize..
With all due respect Mr Jealous you are an idiot!
What level of respect if due an idiot?
Edited tapes should be suspect in this divisive climate. People should have held their fire until the whole tape could be seen.
Racial reconciliation is part of learning how not to be racist.
Lesson of the day: If Andrew Breitbart says something, it's a bald faced lie.
4. THE BIGGEST LESSON - (Republicans will lie constantly to take this country and anyone it down)
Look at Bush, cheaney, Fox News, Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh
(Totally out of touch with society and look to lead the mindless sheep)
think before you become Republican because we all think that they think with their wallets and not their brains!!!!!
You CAN't TAKE THE MONEY WITH YOU!!!!
well, that too.
Your overreaching political attitude is a classic sign of the times which needs to cease ASAP..
rightvswrong.... A-freaking-men!!!!
If you label with a color, your racist.
@DrowningGrover
Good one, however, he didn't say anything. He showed a video clip of blacks at a NAACP meeting laughing on how a white person was discriminated against.
Your comment now Einstein?
Get a clue
what is amazing to me is the redistribution of power that is going on because of the internet!!!|
Now that everything is out in the open on line we as individuals are being provided with more power but, what seems to worry me (not at all really is the post by CT-dad!!!
He is just lying now
What are you talking about CTdad.
Be specific!!!
I never mentioned a conspiracy!!
I said that Republicans Lie Constantly!!!
True Patriot,
No generalizations in your speech! What a truly superior person you must be.
Oh yeah... he feels so bad... tha's why last night he accused the farmer's wife of not actually being the farmer's wife and said Sherrod was a racist.
If Breitbart's lips are moving, he's lying... he cares about one thing only and that is Andrew Breitbart.
no, he showed a snippet of a video taken out of context.
@lito315
Lesson of the day: If Andrew Breitbart says something, it's a bald faced lie.
But, if I look at the Republican Party as a whole i stand strong on what I wrote previously!!!
lito315:
1, 2, several others restored.
...
Journalism is dead. Long live Deception Alley.
because often, without making stuff up, they don't even HAVE a point.
The politics of personal destruction, perfected by right wing pundits, will be the destruction of democracy.
LMAO!!!
Great thread about GOP operatives lying to further its agenda.
If you need more proof it is deliberate and not accidental, as is often claimed as it was in this latest incident, just read any of the articles in this Google search about Fox winning a suit last year for the right to intentionally lie and misinform the public: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fox+news+wins+court+decision+to+lie&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=
Do you think that CBS news of the Morrow/Cronkite/Rather eras would have dared pursue such a "right"?
If it looks like a pig, talks like a pig and walks like a pig, it must be another disembling GOP operative.
Duh.....
Lesson 2:
Corporate media does not fact check prior to running with a story that fits their agenda.
Lesson 3:
Politics seems to be taking over corporate media, and it will continue to do so as long as there are ratings in it.
NO, NO!!! Fox News is Fair and Balanced!!! Don't you know that???
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@!$%# you @!$%#
I'm a Democrat and I've go to say, wet your pants, turn red and twist yourselves into knots people, but don't try and tell me that I saw anything other that ugly racism on that video in it's most blatant unsophisticated form. Now you can let politics stand in the way of you being a decent person with sound judgment if you want to but I'm going to take the high road.
Chris Eidam -
Faux also holds the record for most "edits" to Wikipedia (tracked by IP). revisionist history at work...
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fox+news+wins+court+decision+to+lie&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=
If you run to the right till you hit a wall, and then LEAN to the right some more, from THAT perspective, I'm sure FAUX seems fair and balanced!
From that vantage point, A news channel that hires 'entertainers' can seem to be fair, and balanced!
I agree that the black people nodding their heads in agreement that Ms. Sherrod 's initial comment that she did not "help the white people" is racist.
The blogger's argument is BS however because this is NOT the introduction he posted online, per his own words.
The blogger was trying to get back at the NAACP because the NAACP says Tea Partiers are racist.
The problem is that Ms. Sherrod was caught in the cross-fire.
I do not believe THAT ALL TEA PARTIERS ARE RACIST. However, I feel the same about MEMBERS OF THE NAACP.
CAN YOU ALL DROP THE SUBJECT OF WHO IS RACIST AND WHO IS NOT? It's really tired at this point.
$100 to anyone that punches Breitbart in the face.
Before we shoot the MSM - Breitbart is not part of the MSM but a blogger. As his intent was to defame, Shirley, the NAACP, etc, need to sue the pants of this clown!!!!
It was her boss Vilsack that made her resign, not NAACP. She has taken it in to consideration before she excepts the position.
Isn't anonymity great?
too late, damage done. Right out of the Acorn/Van Jones playbook. I'd cede you this point is we hadn't seen this script before.
Karen in Los Angeles,
I am choosing you here for a reason, so please bear with me.
You can believe me or not.
Bounty
Younger people often have no clue of what black people and other minorities have gone through. You do not have any right to judge her persona.
Her father was murdered by a white man and she lived in GEORGIA which is not exactly known for being racially tolerant. At least not like the eastern seaboard states.
I THINK SHE IS A WONDERFUL PERSON IN SPITE OF IT.
roy_wilson: you suck:
A brave woman...she recognized the struggle she had when didn't do everything she could have done to help the white farmer. The end of the story is so empowering...The farmer's family defended her support that saved them.
FOX=="Full Of Xenophobes" and racists puppets and incendiary spit machine. The teabeggers and repugnites love to" lick" the ocean of spit they mixed with neocons excrements...
by the way...I'm veryyyy white, as color of skin...but I have a good functional brain, you "faux " addicts are missing...
6ftunder - WHAT?
bsbfankaren - because I happen to be watching the news, our evening news showed the video of Ms.
Have a good night.
lito315...WTF are you talking about...I sent no email...in fact, I'm blocked by a Security policy to access personal email account..
I pity you...
There is an insult, tossed on top of assumptions. Is that what passes for intellect in your family? If it is, exactly how linear is that tree?
Thank you very much for reading my post.
Karen in Los Angeles....Thank you.
bsbfankaren
You are welcome and thank you for reading mine too.
Racism, reverse racism, discrimination and reverse discrimination are my biggest pet peeves.
I grew up during the 60's. I really try to be colorblind.
ctdad - you are quite welcome.
Karen in Los Angeles
You are being lied to
@Sharon
I appreciate your comments. Blessings to you!
Michael, you are missing the point.
The audience laughed (blacks) at a comment about holding help from a white person. They laughed... laughed and cheered.
This wasn't about her, it was about the NAACP and how they label the tea party racists.
I guess if you are black you can live in a glass house AND throw stones.
Sorry seriously,
I had to sit in the back of a bus in Norfolk VA. when I was 6 years old.
There is nothing Obama can do to please/appease a lot of you, so he should just stop trying.
blueinoregon,
Fox News (!!!) did not play the tape or even mention it until after she was fired by the USDA (Obama) and vilified by the NAACP.
Put the blame where it's due.
Obama and the NAACP made themselves look like idiots.
57,
I am a conservative independent. I have never felt ashamed of what I am, but it is people that are making statements and living by the standards you have mentioned that has given conservatives a bad name.
reseachplz
Shame on the WH and the NAACP for reacting before they got all the facts..obviously they too put a lot of stock in Fox...
LOL
Rugbyua9
Nail, Head... yup, you hit it.
This is what racism looks like toward whites.
NAACP is a joke and being used as a tool.
Isn't this the "poor worker" who said ..."get a job with the government...they never have lay-offs? Racism is the same - black or white
Lesson of the day: If Andrew Breitbart says something, it's a bald faced lie.
It is pretty typical for "Compassionate Conservatives" to "blame the victim."
Brieffart, or whatever his name is, maliciously mislead the Public for Partisan purposes and should be sued for Libel and Slander.
An innocent woman's character was assassinated to prove a point.
How very grown up of everyone involved. How do they live with themselves?
In the FULL VIDEO - you know, the one that Breitbart cut bits and pieces out of and that you don't want to see because it might not support your talking points - the clapping is in response to Sherrod saying God led her away from her preconceived notions ... yeah, that's racist, alright. Must mean ALL Evangelical Christians are racist, too, huh??? ....
lib50 - Racism is racism, when you generalize and say 'well they are white/black/asian/hispanic, they deserve what they get' it's all equally stupid and offensive in my eyes.
watt, why don't you blame the true perpetrator? Andrew Breitbart is the scum of the earth. So shame on him.
briegburg is proved to be a lying sack of sh** for editing the video to deliberatley convey a false picture. he's the demon in this case.
The only thing racist here is Breitbart
Brandon
I'm sorry but white people ought to worry about their own racist attitudes. Especially those that they claim with such vehemence not to have.
God in heaven have mercy on all of us sinners.
uh oh. Looks like someone doesn't know the full story and is just talking out their a$$...
You people are just stupid!
and it looks like someone else needs a history lesson.
DrowningGrover
You stole my thoughts. lol. I read it and thought I was seeing things. Apparently the poster didn't realise the farmer she absolutely helped is standing up for her. The couple credit her for saving their farm as you know.
I'd like to know who gave him a checkmark for not being informed. lol
Time:
Brad Nord, you're new. Get familiar:
Don't pretend to be able to read the minds or situations of other users. It derails discussion.
Oh, and J. Mack... I love Americans
elliment should be element
your brainwashed should be you're brainwashed
pilledge should be pillage
and were Americans should be we're Americans
The conservatives are Liars, dishonest and thieves why oh why the MSM still bring to us what they say
Apparently the White House and the NAACP are being led by a group of bumbling idiots that react without thought or reason. They didn't even investigate before they reacted.
Hey Gary, FNC /Fox news didn't bother to investigate before they aired the piece either. Don't leave them out, they want their credit !!!!
Mr. Breitbart aired a video that showed people clapping and cheering when she told the audience that she didn't help the white farmer. THAT IS RACSIM.
The white house and NAACP just jump on the bandwagon and support her firing without looking at the facts. That is something to laugh about. LOL
MariaH-769265 - Glenn Beck on Fox News was the only one to bring the entire story to us. Please tell the truth.
Tim, the left can get angry too, and after being dumped on by the right (and most of the hate is on the right, sorry, but it is) who can blame them? But this particular story has damned everyone, including all the media, the administration, the blogger and the public. I hope from now on stories are fact checked before they see the light of day. And we should all be more careful before believing everything you see, especially when they are edited so deviously (much like the pimp/acorn story was).
lib50:
Neither party is a victim in this type of game. The left dumps on the right and vice versa. To say that one party has more hate than the other is naive. Both sides have people who are racist, that hate others for their political views, ethnic backgrounds, etc, etc.
Neither party is free of guilt about twisting things their own way for their benefit.
I have to say that I am utterly surprised that Lib50 would contend Libs are less hateful than conservatives. Who would have ever thought that someone going by Lib50 would be biased towards Libs? Is it odd that Lib50 likes LibS?
To quote one of the great orators of our time, Mr. Rodney King "Can't we all jus git along?"
LOL
Doing that "get along" thing would deprive a whole lot of people a whole lot of subject matter to whine about. And the gov't would have to find other things to place their no-account committees on besides why we can't get along. And, what would happen to the NAACP? And rev. Jesse, or rev Al? Heck, if we got along, then they'd have nothing to scream about and they wouldn't have a way to get their names and faces in the paper every chance they get.........And, we just can't have that!!!!
dwezl - only with my chicken legs, thanks.....
To quote my granpappy, "I ain't racist...I hate everybody equal."
DIAF, MSM
Tainting the tea party movement with the charge of racism is proving to be an effective strategy for Democrats. There is no evidence that tea party adherents are any more racist than other Republicans, and indeed many other Americans. But getting them to spend their time purging their ranks and having candidates distance themselves should help Democrats win in November. Having one’s opponent rebut charges of racism is far better than discussing joblessness. - Mary Frances Berry
yes, the clapping after she mentioned she didnt help the white farmer definitely is not racsim.
You guys are digging yourself a hole. Good luck with your NAACP double standard.
Lets fire someone and then look at the facts after. HAHAHAH Obama is a joke and runs this country without a brain.
"yes, the clapping after she mentioned she didnt help the white farmer definitely is not racsim."
who the hell are you talking to? learn how to use the forum.
Don't make me sad. I might just have to call you a racist.
And.. here's come the spin! Right on time!
Because why Admit Guilt when you can spin your bad press out of your way?
Just another "trustworthy" blogger, though his sort of "journalism" seems perfect for our times.
Brokinarrow, Where the heck are you going to find a candidate is actually willing to be a public servant?
It's certainly not in any important race. They are all in it for themselves.
DIAF, MSM
What was his lie? Showing a snippet of a speech? The left would never do that.
Ethical? Maybe not. But I see not lie.
His lie was not showing (to quote the late Paul Harvey) "the rest of the story."
Of course it is a lie. It is a lie because he wanted to show the clip as something different than what it really was, which was an epiphany, or a story of redemption, the total opposite of what he tried to portray it as. That is a lie, much like the pimp/acorn story.
Omission of the whole is still a lie.
Omission of a whole may be a lie. But what do you call selective journalism when it is closet racism?
All I know is that racism was not a word ever mentioned while Bush, Clinton or Big Daddah were in the White House.
Smell that air of bigotry out there? It's almost hysterically funny watching these closet bigots out themselves. Truer stupidity there never was.
That means that the media lies everyday as does Congress and the White House (All administrations) Just look at the healthcare bill, they did not tell us what was in it. They omitted things that they knew would create problems for passage.
A lie is something that you say that you knew was not true that the time you said it. The snippit was not a lie.
Do you mean selective journalism like altered tapes?
And Rick-531980;
There are 2 types of lies,
1. Omission
2. Commission
Please read and investigate this thoroughly, use any English (you might say American) language dictionary, encyclopedia you need to use.
Get back to me please..
So if you know the truth about something yet intentionally omit information to suit your agenda which directly contradicts the actual situation- thats not a lie?
lol@ewent......
Or did you forget Voter Caging practiced in Reagans, Both Bush's elections?....and the RNC got caught each time.
ewent

"They didn't even investigate before they reacted."
No, they didn't. And it's an epic fail on their part.
But you can take it to the bank that if it was the other wat around there wouldn't have been any investagation at all.
10 deleted, rugbyua9 with a pretty good post up until:
Post like an adult; no need to call other Viners names. You're new. Get familiar.
You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
then everyone who says teabaggers should be banned,as i find it offensive, and if one is unacceptable then the other is as well.
Why post a video to demonstrate the NAACP is racist when the video (the whole video) shows just the opposite?
So you're saying, that when she claimed she denied the white farmer the aid she could have given him, all the cheering from the NAACP members is not racsim. This is where the NAACP is wrong. They are racist. And you are just an idiot for dismissing it.
You think this is all the videos we have at the tea party?? HAHAHA Just wait till it gets closer to November.
Nothing the NAACP is doing is helping either. In fact, its pissing me off more and making me think in the opposite direction of the NAACP intentions.
because, just like in the ACORN "pimp/prostitute" story, the damage is already done and the retraction will be on page 47.
Breitbart and Fox know exactly what they are doing. Everyone only cares about the story for one day anyway, so smear with lies on day one, and who cares what happens after that.
Lesson of the day: If Andrew Breitbart says something, it's a bald faced lie.
ruby, it's obvious you didn't watch or listen to the video, because what you claim is false, pure and simple.
BUt I wouldn't expect anything less (or more) from some one who concludes their post with "you're an idiot".
@Mark Thomas
So now you're saying they didnt clap and cheer when she was describing her encounter with the white farmer whome she didn't want to help?
Come on...wait for the smoke and mirrors to clear.
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH oh man joe mota. You definitely win the prize. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Yes, the claps and cheers and her smile were all edited. SB1070 for the win.
Rugby....
Though not overt, your connotation was that "even if Obama is black, the white man is still more accepting of a black male president than a white female one."
It's subtle.
Geez.
@lib50
I just gave you an alternative.
lib50...They assume because if they didn't they'd have to rely on facts. That's anathema to any right winger.
Ewent: not all conservatives are racists, and not all racists are conservatives.
Lib50: how can you possible know how the crowd felt at the end of that speech? You assume too much yourself.
Joan: i agree with you completely! Everyone should assume responsibility for their own actions now....can't live in the past.
shuggar...If not all conservatives are racists, why are none of the conservative spokespeople out there standingon the courage of their convictions that this guy Breitbart is nothing more than a racist?

Too many of us rush to judgement on the basis of text taken out of context and sound bytes.
It is about the fired USDA worker now and the unfair treatment she received. This was wrong.
We are all part of the same race-Human!
Right on Snoozer!
Ewent:
But, like I said: I really don't know a lot about politics, I am just learning.....
ewent: oh, also, i did hear that BP was one of the major contributors to the Obama campaign....but i never really know what is the truth anymore!
Toasty,
You're right, the NAACP doesnt need any help to look racist, they are quite capable of doing it on their own.
McBob, the title of NAACP is racist in nature. Why should an organization use race in their title, as evidenced by "colored people". The NCAAP, I am sure does some things for people that aren't black(or colored), but why doesn't the NAACP uppdate their title to the 20 or 21st century? Because they remain racist is the answer.
this argument is tired, and completely nonsensical anyway. Perhaps there name is slightly outdated, but it's not racist.
Yes Dasvet, please forget why the NAACP was formed and what took place around its formation. That's the right answer...
Pardon me, but.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
100% correct.
Breitbart is the lowest form of scum.
Far from irrelevant because the words used, the applause recieved, the place the speech was given are very real; is what created the situation or there would not have been one. Nice dismiss but denied all facts count
No. Entirely irrelevant because the entire video segment was cherry-picked to be taken out of context.
Bottomline is Breitbart is scum and a baldfaced liar. No surprises there, most objective people already know this.
Bravo managing skills from our fearless leader right? Fire her! Oh wait, we didnt look at the facts.
White House = FAIL
NAACP = FAIL
Denied
He's also paying cash for proof there was racist remarks shouted at the black caucus members at the healthcare vote.
Any takers yet? Nope, none.
The good news is that maybe now the media will call out these lies from now on instead of just blindly accepting them as truth.
lib50,
You hit the nail on the head with comment #19.8. I couldn't have said it any better myself.
I appreciate your comments. Blessings to you!
Breitbart is a liar and a defamer and a racist, period.
while it is not his job to find out if what he is reporting is true (which it is not), he should be careful in the future.
JustAthought,
Excellent Post!
"And can someone PLEASE tell me why the FCC hasn't yanked Fox's license?"
Because if they yanked Fox's license they would also have to yank ABC's, NBC's, and CBS's license for knowingly running false news stories.
Gina you are not being truthful in the least.
No, it's about the fact that breitbart is a serial liar, and the right-wing "news" media uncritically accepts whatever drivel he dishes out.
Apparently Obama and the NAACP also believe what he dishes out too? No?
The good news in this is that the lies will no longer be passed over with the assumption it is true. Good news for Americans, bad news for republicans, who seem to excel in lies and misrepresentations.
LOL lib50 are you for real?
The NAACP and the White House were amazingly gullible. All they had to do was to keep in mind this tried-and true principle: if a conservative right winger says something, it is probably a lie.
Zorro:
Yes, and your a douche bag
kinda makes you worried about the White House doesn't it????????????
Zorro: sounds like your theory is: Who are you going to believe, the Democrats or your lying eyes?! funny
The Black Panther incident happened..Acorn happened...Sherrod admitted to making these racist remarks..... Breitbart was trying to make a point. He never intended for Sherrod to be fired, only to show not only white people can be racist.
You are a pig Mr. Breitpart. A pig! Trying to shift blame off your useless butt! I hope you suffer financially for this. That's the only area I think you can get hurt since you have no heart! You are a race baiter and a pig!
This comment is unfair to pigs!!! Even the lowliest of creatures does not deserve to be compared to Breitbart the liar.
BREITBART SHOULD BE SUED FOR EVERY ASSET HE HAS ---- BREITBART.COM SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN
Breitbart created the video? Right (wing conspiracy theory)! LOL.
The NAACP is as racist as the KKK. The media doesn't portray them that way because of their left wing political support.
For the past week, Americans who consider themselves aligned with the Tea Party movement have suffered the indignity of being falsely labeled racist by the NAACP and their pro-bono publicity managers, the main stream media. The constant calls to “repudiate the racists from your ranks” have not only been insulting, but have also served to force a false standard upon America’s fastest-growing and most vibrant political movement that no other group could ever live up to nor would ever be asked to live up to.
rugby, explain why you're defending some lying piece of garbage? is it because you agree with his politics?
Joe: Did you read the whole thing. He was not taking sides but stating facts. Something the news is suppose to do but as we see here, don't.
