I would venture a guess that rkymtnwoman is from Boulder, CO is the Berkley of the Rockies and Napachild is self explanatory. That means that they won't let facts get in the way of their version of reality. Maybe those two jerks in Ohio should be put in a cage and let people shoot at them with their own guns. Better yet, put them in with the dog and let the dog get some payback.
The story is incomplete. How did the dog get free? Or, how were the two animal abusers exposed to authorities?
My personal estimate of the situation is one of comparison of Human-animal similarities. Some dog breeds are as clever as a 3-to-3 1/2-year old Human child. German Shepherd is one of the three breeds at the top of the list (Border Collie, Poodle, and Shepherd).
Although extending Human Rights (100% Human) to non-Humans is against what I believe to be right, the two men deserve to be wrung-out to the fullest extent of the State's animal cruelty laws, codes and rules.
In anger, I would suggest that hanging might be too good for them. Some special form of punishment.....h-m-m-m-m

No where in this particular article does it mention anything about the firearm used being owned legally or illegally. More information may be available in other articles, but not in this one. You might want to listen to your advice to Napachild and read the article again.

Ya know they say that if a person will do things like this to a pet dog, they will do it to a human being eventually. I agree, these guys need their names put out there just like sex offenders so that people can know what sort they are and know they have the potential of not only harming helpless animals but humans too. I hope these violent idiots get a custodial sentence and not a token tap on the knuckles. The fact that they shot the dog repeatedly demonstrates that it was not a sudden fit of rage that caused this dogs injuries, but a systematically applied form of torture. Even if you are not an animal lover, you need to be concerned about this sort of person having bad judgment and access to firearms being out and about in your community.

If indeed the dog is dangerous the owner is responsible and probably half assed trained the dog to be vicious just to show off.
I hope Ohio gives him the maximum sentence.

I don't really believe that the animal is vicious. I think that the jackass owner said that trying to cover his own a$$. I think he is horrible and should receive the maximum allowed sentence. Even if the dog did bite him, the owner probably provoked it. If the owner is willing to lock his dog in a cage and shoot at it than I would bet money that he would be willing to lie about being bit.

Those dogs are great-natured unless trained otherwise; I think this pisses me off more than human to human rage (except for children). They should put them in a cage with peanut butter lathered up, then let in the wild monkeys. Or better yet, tie them up and sit them naked on a fire-ant hill.

OMG !!!!, this makes me sick, I am so upset over it.. I have a White German Shepard that is sooo gentle, he loves everyone, very sweet.. That poor dog to have a horrible owner, blees his heart to live after being shot so may times.. They really need to be put away for a long time, so they can't hurt another animal..

Over the past year here in Colorado, two animal cruelty cases so extremely cruel to helpless dogs and both got a slap on the hand - 30 days in jail of which they will probably only serve a small amount of time. One guy tied his dog with a rope to the back of his truck last winter and dragged it up a steep unpaved hill to a horrible death, got a slap on the hand. The other most recent case here in Boulder County, a college co-ed tied restraints on each leg and arm meant to cut off blood flow and wrapped a little dog tightly in duct tape and taped it upside down to the side of the refridgerator, left it to die (fortunately it was rescued in time and adopted by a loving family). She was found in possession of herion at the time and did this heanous crime because she was jealous of the attention her boyfriend paid to the dog, and again, got a minor slap on the hand by the so-called law - 30 days in jail she probably wont have to serve. Pays to be a cute blond co-ed. She got a PASS on illegal possession of that herion as well...go figure. It is disgusting.

After some really brutal animal abuse cases in Arkansas, they changed the law finally to a felony in the state of Arkansas to abuse animals. Animal cruelty is now a Class D felony, punishable by up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. A second offense within five years would be a Class C felony, punishable by between three and 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. -- I hope Ohio has a similar law and will go for the max on these idiots.

Especially since the so called legal system, the DOJ in particular, seems to care so little about the rights of innocent life - seem to be very busy protecting the civil rights of criminals, illegals and terrorists these days.

I say we put these two in a small outdoor cage with no shade, no water, and little food. They sleep and eat in their own urine & feces and are totally dependent on their "owners". Then one day we show up and start shooting them. But not fatally...yet.

JermUK really needs to pick up a pro vegetarian leaflet or do a quick (.5 seconds or so) Google search to see the 'humane' way food animals are dispatched on factory farms. For chickens, cows and pigs (or any other poor food animal), the ending of their lives is most heinous and so grotesque that most people might actually vomit up that delicious bacon burger they stuffed their face with.
Sadly though, as cruel, scary and painful as the ENDING of their lives is, it's nothing compared to the full time hell they live before slaughter.
Still, they are wonderful to eat!

If they would do this to a caged animal who cannot fight back, then what will they do, or have done, or will do to any other person who pisses them off???? Like their wives, girlfriends, children etc. This is a symptom of out of control behavior and, yes, they should get the max penalty. Unfortunately, most people don't think ahead and cruelty to animals isn't as serious a crime as it should be in most states. God help the next person who inadvertantly crosses these two fools.
