exactly! SpeakTruth@you, I am so in agreement with your comment. Those 'people' if they can be included in the human race, are pure idiots! They don't deserve to have women or families, they should just ---- their camels and live happily ever after!
No doubt. The Iranian scum, if not stopped, will soon be capable of "stoning" anyone near them with an atomic weapon, and sooner or later the target will be us.
Why is this topic even worthy of a discussion? Hey, another terrorist baby maker is dead, to me, that's a moment for celebration, not condemning of this, but, silly me, what am I thinking? This topic was started by the scumbag liberal newsvine morons.
MassiveDynamic - your post is incredible. I am amazed anyone allows someone of your mental level anywhere near electricity, much less a computer. I'm sure if this was allowed in the US you would be the first in line to throw a rock. What a mindless bigot.....
I see you have the same mentality as the backward idiots who condemn this woman to death. I see you also posted the same message on CNN website. What a pathetic human being you are. You deserve all the pain and sadness in your life.
MassiveDynamic - I can't believe that you would say something like that! What you said is sick and disgusting. She is a human being, a mother, someone's child. No one should ever be subjected to such cruelty and torture.
I thought we were over there to ensure human rights. Where is the man who raped her? You can bet on that, she was raped. She couldn't be a 'baby maker' if one of the people who judged her guilty hadn't commited the same crime himself.
In the bible, Christ said to the crowds 'those of you who have never sinned, cast the first stone'.
Hey Dave and all the rest of you whiney liberal osama obama terrorist loving scumbags, maybe you liberals should be stoned just like this terrorist whore will be! And, if I wanted your opinions, I would've beat it out of you liberal scumbags! So, jam that one where the sun doesn't shine!
Those sentenced to stoning, or “lapidation” as it is also called, are buried in a hole and covered with soil (men up to their waists; women to a line above their breasts), according to Article 102 of the Islamic Penal Code. A selected group then executes the alleged adulterers using rocks and sticks. Those able to escape the hole during stoning can be freed, according to Islamic law, a feat that is much more difficult for women than for men because so much more of their body is covered during lapidation.
So, men are only covered up to their waists, but women above their breasts. How convenient....for the men
Wow Massive...you are such a sweet and loving individual. You bring a ray of sunshine to this forum. I bet you’re an active member of your Bible discussion group and help old ladies cross the street…right?
Probably not. In fact, I bet you are a right wing, sociopathic fascist that would have us all in chains and wearing swastikas if you could. Internet tough guys such as yourself, are usually pathetic little worms. I bet, right now, you’re reading this from the basement where you still live with your mother, brushing cookie crumbs from your pot-gut as we speak. I don’t know what makes you such a hater, but I think you might be a prime candidate for your local branch of the KKK. Not every Muslim is a terrorist or hates America any more than all Americans are fat, beer swilling, racist, ignorant, insecure, inbred, wastes of oxygen, such as yourself. Do us all a favor and place both barrels of a sawed off in your mouth and relieve us of your presence on Earth.
While we cannot tell Muslim countries to not carry out their laws, all I can say is let us work hard as hell to NOT let Sharia Law come to the US.
Sharia Law is not Common Law like the US, it is not Civil Law like other western nations. You have one judge and the defendent. No lawyers, no jury, no pre-trial discovery, no cross-examination, no penalty of perjury, and no codified statutes.
The only thing we can ensure and work hard is to not let Sharia Law have any grounding in the US. Clerics are trying to push it into other Western nations, they did in the UK, and they are trying in Australia. If the Muslims cannot accept the law of the land they are in, that is not Muslim law, then they can go back to Muslim countries. My opinion.
I hope something can be done for this woman, I really do, but sadly and horribly it is the countries decision.
Why is this topic even worthy of a discussion? Hey, another terrorist baby maker is dead, to me, that's a moment for celebration, not condemning of this, but, silly me, what am I thinking? This topic was started by the scumbag liberal newsvine morons.
I doubt sharia law will ever reach the shores of western nations. However, I would be more concerned of theocracy. Religion, any religion is dangerous when used by those who govern.
These are the feudal people that want to convert the world to their version of the Book; it will be impossible for their culture and the western culture to exist side by side, one or the other must be exterminated!
Justicenow60: Was your Pakistani madrasha flooded? This article is about a stoning in Afghanistan. Your comment below is totally off-topic and should be deleted as well.
Unfortunately there are videos out there if you google it.
Of the videos I have seen the suspect is hooded, and placed into a dug out hole, and people gathered around chuck stones, fist size rocks at the head and whatever other part of the body.
These are the same people who celebrated whenever the cowards murdered over 3,000 Americans on 9/11. I'm sure the judges who decide this are cowards also.
This is barbaric. Of course, most forms of the death penalty seem barbaric.
After all, what is the point of the judicial system? If it's rehabilitation, the death penalty does not rehabilitate. If it is simply punishment, yes it certainly punishes, but it does so by doing the same crime. Should we sentence rapists to being raped? Robbers to being robbed? It seems like and odd concept to me.
While I don't agree with stoning adulterers, I am in favor of some of your other examples (raping rapists, taking posessions from robbers and even more painful forms of execution for murderers). What is cruel about subjecting criminals to the same treatment they use on others. Also, these aren't crimes if they are sanctioned by the govt.
And by the way, however much people talking about judicial system being about rehabilitation, they are fooling themselves. Those who want to change may turn their life around, but mostly they just learn to be better criminals.
Protectthekids, soccer mom handle much? Anyway, yeah, I'm not opposed to the death penalty either in solid evidence-packed case that proves heinous acts, such as some of your mentioned examples. I thought I was jaded, you take the cake.
I don't trust any police force of justice system to produce "solid evidence". Look at all the men released from prison in the US over the past decade after a DNA analysis of evidence proved they were innocent and wrongly convicted.
A wrongfully convicted person can be released from prison but they cannot be released from death. Bear in mind that the wrongfully convicted person just might be YOU one day.
Very good point Jherek, which is why Iran is so crazy. From what im gettinbg from this, she is getting stoned from hear-say, she could very well be innocent (in Irans eyes because she certainly wouldnt even be put in jail here).
Protect the kids, I have to agree with the screen name, seems like you dant care about anything but children, even yourself, anyway, so with your examples, how exactly should they carry out being raped? Painful death for a murderer? What about protecting animals who have science expieriments done on them at colleges? They are like children too. So before you go off and talk about children children children like a little drone, consider who else is suffering, like innocent people that are assumed guilty
We do sentence rapists to be raped. It's called jail!!! As a matter of fact, we sentence anyone who is NOT a star or celeb to being raped when we send them to jail. Unfortunately, prison is not to rehabilitate, it is to isolate the known and convicted criminal element away from the rest of society. Not against jail in general, but our penile system is a joke, as is our judicial system being horribly flawed because it is run by horribly flawed creatures....humans. It is a cycle that cannot end, because there are no perfect people and we can all find fault in the various ways that our own and others cultures dispense what they believe is justice. Stoning seems very wrong. But so does eating a dog. But overseas eating a dog is fine, but you better not eat pork or think of killing a cow. So fingers will always be pointed because what is good for me, isn't necessarily good for you. Such is life.
I totally agree with you. this is unhuman to kill a person by stone. this was hundreds of years ago need to change. I am a muslim lady and I don't agree with stoning at all.
I don't feel the "Death Penalty" is punishment at all. However, society has the responsibility to protect itself from certain criminals. Just as we don't let rabid dogs roam the streets, some people demonstrate that the only things they can do are to harm others.
Isn't that a disgusting society of people? I feel so sorry for those who are born there....yikes! What a damn mess, male or female, it's disastrous. The boys grow up to become idiots and the girls grow up to become common chattel....cows or camels to be bought and killed at a whim....damn, they have got to be the damndest fools on the planet!
This is why nobody in the CIVILIZED WORLD likes their asses.
When it comes to being "civilized" maybe Christianity is only one step behind Isalm and Judism when it comes regressive, intrusive and barbaric theologies that are imposed on mandkind as "god's will". Don't all three authorized stoning in their "holy scriputures" as well as demand genital mutilation as the mark of being a "true beliver"?
Religion will destroy this world one day, but the Muslim they take religion to far but when you do not care about life and killing is your way of life what else can you expect from them. They are very sick people.
M. Winners - Perhaps you sholud look closer at Scripture or history. Every society from the Greeks to the romans, fomr the Vikings to the Normans had stoning in their culture as a form of punishment. It is not jsut a religious thing. In looking closer at Scripture you will see that in the New Testament Jesus has left final judgement to God the Father. Does that mean we should not have laws to protect society and morality ? Absolutely not, however such brutal treatment as stoning is not an acceptable punishment for in is as inyman as it gets. I do not know of one Chrsitian that would stand up and say it is acceptable.
As far as speaking of Christianity, in the New Testament, Jesus actually freed an adulteress from stoning, saying to her accusers, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." When all carrying stones had dropped them, he said he did not condemn her either and told her to go and sin no more. This does not look like any blanket authorization of stoning to me. Do not go by the actions of adherents of the faith, who can be and often are wrong, but go by the teachings of the faith-whether you agree or not.
Paul's epistles of the New Testament also state that it was decided that Gentiles need not be circumcised to be accepted as followers of Christianity. Since you asked, Winners.
Religion does not TRUMP Human Nature. it is in the nature of humans to kill. In Ancient times stoning allowed everyone to have "BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS", like war does today.
It is preposterous for any Religious persuasion to believe their sect is "HOLIER" than another. If you move it to a more "sophisticate" application, from the Greeks to England, the Royals were always beheaded.
The lowly people were "hanged, drawn, and quartered, because it extended the punishment.
The Iranians could just as easily bash her head in and be done with it. The stoning is to EXTEND PAIN and PUNISHMENT.
Human Nature is to EXTEND "pain and punishment" on one another. Always has been and always will be.
NO RELIGION has over come Humans primate basil nature!
Religion is bad because, it is divisive among groups of people and genders. It might feign to be an instrument to bring people together, however it never has.
Every sect or denomination believes that a "god" is on their side, and that their "god" is more powerful and worthy than any other "god".
There goes the rub. Religion was create by and for men to subjugate other men.
If you do not want to be lied to, then don't lie to others.
If you do not want to be stolen from, then don't steal from others.
If you don't want to be killed then don't kill others.
It is just that simple. It does not require crusades or Inquisitions or stoning or anything else.
It does not REQUIRE the TENANTS of a "god" either.
In the beginning was Religion now it's Politics, man needs something to be greater than he is and to think it controls him.
Religion does not TEACH RESPONSIBILITY for one's on actions.
If things are GOOD it's because of a "god". If things are bad it's because of the Devil.
What ever, I guess if it floats peoples boats fine. I am only saying it should not be forced on EVERYONE....and I KNOW the first time people start telling other people what "god" thinks and knows, "god" has now become HUMAN!
Sorry Wilberta, my government is NOT greater than I am, because here in the United States we are SUPPOSED to be the government! The fact that the lazy, mindless, immoral and weak have turned their power over to a group they suppose are above them does not mean we all have.
However, my Lord Elohim IS something greater than I am. You do not have to believe it but their IS a God and He IS our supreme creator and master. You do not have to believe it and I am not going to debate it with you. If you can come in here and say there is no God I can very well come in here and proclaim His existence. Again, no debate. There will come a day when every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord of all. He will force that capitulation; man won't.
As a Christian it is my obligation to share the news of salvation with whoever wants to hear it. It is not for me to force it upon anyone and it is not for me to threaten anyone with harm if they do not accept. For anyone who thinks I am forcing this on them right now, you could have stopped reading 45 seconds ago.
M. Winners - all fantasy and fiction is on the same footing. It's all fake. The fact that it is easier for men to get out of the hole than women during a stoning is the perfect allegory for all religion - its purpose is to maintain a patriarchy that controls society. Just like it does here, repressing our rights in the same ways. Capital punishment is capital punishment, no matter how you go about it. It's ethically reprehensible.
M.Winners, you are a troll. Your comment here and below and your throw away endings, "JUST SAYING" and "just wondering" reveal that you want to carelessly position yourself as smarter than everyone else. Well, educate yourself and post a comment that shows some real understanding and insight. Otherwise, you're just a waste of space.
Oh, I guess I better stick this in here so you can see how stupid and young it sounds --
Bible: A measuring stick of laws/rules to measure yourself up to. The rules could vary from obvious to all (Don’t kill), to the ridiculous (Don’t tie your shoes on Sunday), because the actual rules aren’t the point. The point is that every person on earth when measured finds themselves a “Sinner” i.e. a breaker of the Law/Rules.
God: The ultimate embodiment of Goodness and Perfection. These are tied together. Goodness and perfection can’t be goodness and perfection unless (Sin, law breaking, rule breaking) has consequences. Metaphorically: The darkness cannot dwell in the light. When a darkness (sin) is presented to the light is destroyed (punished).
Mankind: Gods creation which finds itself in a dilemma. Since none are free from being a “sinner” (i.e. a law breaker) they cannot ever dwell with God, and are effectively dead spiritually. There is NO relationship between God and the sinner, and when brought before the light (upon our deaths) we will be punished by the only one that has a right to punish us.
The Solution: Since mankind is in a state of imperfection, we can never do anything to become perfect. We can’t be “good people” and undo even one infraction of the law/rules that were broken. So in our stead God Himself paid the price for us. He took all our imperfections/rule breakings/sin and “placed” them on Himself (in the form of a man) and then took our punishment for us, and by doing so imparted (to those that believe by faith that He did this) his perfection in the Spiritual world. He resurrected the spiritual relationship between Him and His creation for believers. Those people are no longer under the law. None of the rules apply to them anymore. (If these leaves you with questions read “Romans”.) Again Metaphorically: When they stand before the light for judgment, they will be seen as perfect and without flaw.
Note: Both Judaism and Islam are works righteousness based. They don’t believe Jesus was the Messiah (the fixer of their broken relationship with God because of law breaking). So they continue to operate “under the law”. For them following the rules as best you can makes your relationship with God ok. The more you work to follow the better your relationship is supposed to be.
I hope this addresses what the real point of "the Laws" are from a Christian perspective. Which is simply "the tool by which we come to understand our need for redemption"
civilized? is it civilized to imprison a person or more civil to stone them? Who decides what is civilized. Is it cruel and inhuman to place a person in a detention such as a jail or prison? Does the Pope make the decision? Isn't he supposed to be the holy father? This guy Jesus said to let him that is without sin cast the first stone. Who are we to decide?
Stoning is used as a fear tactic. Specifically it's supposed to scare other women into subserviance and show what would happen if they are unfaithful. Still, this shira law is ancient garbage and nonsense. It's mideval and part of the dark ages, and should have been left in the dark ages of Islam.
Islam needs to wake up and move forward into the 21st century and beyond by denouncing these so called shira laws. It is unacceptable to deal with these people while they use such ancient laws.
And the Taliban and other Islam nations wish to spread the word of Islam and with it Shira law? Over my dead body, and I will fight that spread of such trash.
No one cares much for Islam's religion mostly because of the hardcore laws that it espouses.
Odd, but I don't see any "good christians" or their bat crap crazy bible bangin' cousins objecting or decrying this form of primitive, cave dwelling kind of punishment in this thread.
Is it because the bible says it's OK to kill "sinners" this way? You know, just like their "holy scriptures" say it's OK to kill gays or keep slaves. Just wondering...
Actually, the Catholic Church believes in Right to Life and is against the Death Penalty in every form. It believes in the power of reconciliation and that all life is sacred and should be protected. It does not just refer to abortion, but to all killings of human beings (euthanasia, execution, etc.). "Let the one who is without sin cast the first stone." Maybe you should read up on it.
Most if not all Christians would be horrified by this. I'm sure many of the people posting against this on the thread consider themselves Christian but don't feel the need to identify themselves as such everytime they state an opinion.
Jeanne - I hear you, but don't forget that it was a number of Catholic Popes that started, continued and ordered the Crusades and the murder of everyone Islamic. Maybe you should read up on that.
I'm against this stoning, but I'm also against your holier than thou opinion of your religion. Take your Pope, your Knights Templar, and stuff it.
Jeanne - I hear you, but don't forget that it was a number of Catholic Popes that started, continued and ordered the Crusades and the murder of everyone Islamic. Maybe you should read up on that.
How come everyone keeps bringing up the Crusades like we were the aggressors? Islam says to recruit by the sword and they did all the way through 2/3 of the Christian world, until we said no more and pushed them back in the Crusades. After that some opportunistic church leaders called for further conquests like Jerusalem but that does not reflect on all of Christianity. So don't go buying the propaganda that we were the aggressors.
EWayneS - perhaps you should read up on the crusades: The Islamic crusades. Do you not know that Muhammed himself started crusades in 630AD? I do not condone either the Christian or Islamic crusades, but you should be more informed before opining so condescendingly.
Give me a scripture from anywhere in the bible or catechism , that SPECIFICALLY says humans have a "RIGHT TO LIFE".
That is why "god" was always saying how it "screwed" up and destroyed people. Albeit the floods of Noah to Sodom and Gomorrah, to the Tower of Babel to Moses and the Passover, to Joshua and Jericho, to the Christian Crusades!
All over the scriptures, no matter the Denomination "RIGHT TO LIFE" has never been an issue.
Only today because it is a POLITICAL one NOT RELIGIOUS!
proof please. M. Winners, Mesa AZ. Let me save you time. there isn't any. Jesus in fact stopped a group of men from stoning a adulterous women. Please at least read the bible or ask a christian before you start. I am black and if christian permits slavery do you think i would be a christian.
Christianity doesn't say kill gay if that was so lots of people would have been died what it does say is pray for them. There is no where in the bible were it said it is OK to kill. A simple i don't like Christians would have been better but to then lie.
Most "Christians" don't follow the Word of God very closely. Love Thine Enemies? Hardly. There isn't a more vindictive group of religionists on the planet, save for Muslims. In The Sermon on the Mount, Jesus abjures us to pray in private, in the closet of our home, not in public like the hypocrites. Jesus says that God answers prayers made in private. Tell that to the TV preachers. They obviously don't read the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus tells us to forgo the collection of riches, to give our money to the poor and be humble and useful. Yeah, right, O Ye moneygrubbing Bible thumpers. Historically speaking, "Christian" governments have always been totally anti-Jesus in practice- taxing and surpressing the poor, starting wars, burning people alive, ethnic cleansing their borders, enslaving anyone possible, and their biggest victims have been other Christians. One of the Pope Innocents, III I believe, began a pogrom of "Good Christians" (Bon Creitiens) in the Languedoc region of France, and over close to a hundred years more than a million of these fellow Christians were hounded down, massacred, burned at the stake and otherwise tortured and maimed. Catholics gloss over this period, ignoring the real name of the people, Bon Cretiens, and calling them Albigensian Heretics and Cathars, and minimizing the actual death toll. The Pope practically eliminated the entire Occitan language in the process. My point is simply that Christians have no moral ground to stand on in this discussion. Competing sects of Christians killed each other with guns and bombs in Ireland until just a few years ago. Despite the peaceful nature of their holy scriptures, Christians persist in being a bloodthirsty, vindictive, intolerant group in the eyes of everyone else in the world. Most of us fear and loathe all you big-group religious people, Christian, Muslim, and Hindu, because your hatred and intolerance causes most of the evil in the world. To Hell with all of you. Really, the Confucians, the Buddhists, the Quakers, the Unitarians, even the Jews make you Christians look like the worst kind of gore-sucking monsters in comparison. Did Jews bomb the Murrah Building in OK City? Did Buddhists shoot a doctor to death for his birth control services? Do Quakers have bunkers full of weapons in Idaho saved up for Armageddon? You fellers mihgt want to read your Bibles a little more critically. Act a little like Jesus for a change.
What's amazing is that if they can wriggle free they get to live? But let's bury the women deeper so they can't escape, but the men always escape. So let's add to the sadistic nature of this punishment, yea? And, what kind of people could throw the rocks with intent to kill. Just can't be more ate up than that.
Wilberta I ask you what religion or person has not done something wrong, throughout history religions have made mistakes but this is 2010 its time for us all to get on the same page and stop this ignorant violence unless you are for stoning because it sound like sine the catholics made a few mistakes this is ok too.
Once again you people who can not comprehend what you read or assemble information and have a discourse about it. WHICH proves you are as SHARP as MARBLES!
Just saying.
Argue my information, don't argue me the person ! Yes, it is 2010 and What I am saying IS everyone one no matter Christian, Jew or Muslim IS BARBARIC, since those philosophies were created by Barbarians!
You try to fit antiquated Bronze age logic into the 21st Century which makes everyone's Religion insanity!
None of you have a Higher Moral Ground. ALL religion is based on "faith and beliefs" not FACTS.
All religion is founded on intangibles!
Fact gravity falls down not up! ....Neither Faith nor Belief will change that!
When you can come up with a better explanation of how we came to exist and what keeps us going Wilberta, let us know.
When you can tell us when the rocks came to be, how everything here came to be accidentally but perfectly aligned so as to sustain various life forms, each dependent upon each other for survival and why there has been no life found on millions of other heavenly bodies, I will listen, as long as you have fact to back it up. Otherwise, it has no more standing than my religion. In fact, it has less. When you can explain why no other planet in our solar system has what we have and how there are still apes if we supposedly "evolved" from them when Darwin's theory was that as superior forms of life developed the inferior ones they developed from died off, then I will begin to question my faith.
However, it takes more faith to believe that this all occurred by accident and that tangible things like rocks have ALWAYS existed, created from nothing, than it takes to believe in a spirit Creator who used His superior intelligence to create things just the way He wanted them.
Fred, your question as to why apes exist if we evolved from them is proof that you dont know how evolution works. The evidence is there. Evolution is a fact. It has nothing to do with faith but just accepting reality. Religion is based on fantasy and is a lot closer to mental illness frankly.
RC, dont embarrass yourself by talking about a subject you know nothing about. The evidence supporting evolution is out there for you to find. apparently you enjoy being completely ignorant.
by the way, it's "accept" genius...and Islamic fundamentalism is just as bad as christian fundies
Doug, check all the scientific journals and data you wish; there is no scientist who has found a common DNA connection between us and apes. That is why it is still called the THEORY of Evolution.
There is more fact existing to prove the Bible than there is to prove Darwinism. Do not take my word for it; research the facts.
They bury the women deeper so there is less chance of their breasts being expose as they struggle to avoid the stones. The fact that it makes it more certain she will die is a bonus. After all, they tie the victims' hands behind their backs, so how much chance is there that will be able to free themselves? I think it probably adds to the sense of sport to watch the victims try to get away.
maybe we americans should do this as well.............perhaps it will reduce the divorce rate from50% to 20%? If you have a child out of wedlock maybe a partial stoning would be in order?
these muslims may be on the right track?
what is the divorce rate over there anyway?????????
The world has many societies and cultures that are diametrically different from each other. If you brake down the elements of some culture bound traits you can see that they don't make any locical sense. For example, in government some societies allow the richest to control the economy and the laws at the expense of the larger portion of society. They even go as far as letting their sick get more sick and die to capitalize on the whole transition. So stoning to death, while repugnant and messy is nothing more than one element of society exhibiting power over another to maintain control.
If we followed the bible, we'd be doing the same thing and more. Read the Old Testament. We need to find a way to help radical Islam move forward, just as Christianity has.
Oh yeah, like it moved forward into the inquisition. Then to burning and hanging witches. Then to radical, power-hungry and racist organizations. Wonderful.
Whoa, Christians are killing people in the name of their god too.... and not all Muslims are killing in the name of their god. So they're just about equal in the moron department.
I am not a Christian USperson but let's be fair here: The Inquisition was a long time ago and witchcraft is not a crime anymore and the last witch was executed a little while back as well.
These days, nations that have a long Christian tradition are in fact more civilized than the majority of nations on Earth.
Let's do be fair. Let's particularly note that those most loudly proclaiming themselves Christians in America are often THE MOST barbaric, whether it's assassinating a doctor in church or feverishly passing laws to keep gay adults from marrying or adopting children.
It's also interesting that stoning is mentioned in the Bible, but not the Koran. Not surprising given that the Bible also condones rape, slavery and infanticide.
So, to REALLY be fair, let's be clear that Christianity is no better a religion, and its followers in general are no better people, than those following Islam.
I agree with your last point Orlando but the basic barbarism in the writings of both religions notwithstanding, I stll maintain that nations that have historically have a Christian tradition are more civilized today than those which are traditionally non-Christian. There are exceptions of course, Japan for example is more civilized than most "Christian " nations.
Just my opinion and I am not beating the drum for Christianity because, as I said, I am not a Christian.
Fair enough, I suppose, although when we also factor in the "barbarism" of the wars America has waged in the Middle East on grounds that are questionable at best, the responsibility for the greatest sheer numbers of innocents killed probably lies with Western nations like ours.
An inherent problem with religion is that while it can be interpreted wisely, it is often used simply as an excuse for one group of people to claim the right to enforce their views and desires on another violently. Any god that would endorse these things is no god at all.
It does not matter what the religion is. It is dangerous to let any religious group gain much control over the government. They all think they are right and going to heaven and the none believers are headed for hell. When the Catholic Church was in power they used torture to convert the none believers and Jews. In Puritan Massachusetts people were tortured and killed for witchcraft. Where the radical Muslims rule, people are stoned to death and threatened with death for drawing religious cartoons. In the Jewish Bible the people were told to raid towns and kill and destroy everything.
"Science can fly a man to the moon but religion can fly an airliner into a building and kill thousands of people". Science should rule a country not people believing in religious fairy tales.
It is considered a form ofcommunity justice and has its fair share of critics both among human rights groups and Islamic clerics.
FAIR SHARE OF CRITICS???? talk about a under statement!!! any human that does not abhor this is still a cave dwelling creature.
we as humans like to think we are the wisest creatures on the planet. but when I look around and see Sh##%T like this and non stop over population of our planet it sickens and saddens me. how can a society think of treating its own in this way? this is one of there mothers...or daughters...
some man talked her into sex...she gets stoned to death and what does he get for it??? a clap on the back and told what a stud he is!! sick sick sick! when a society can treat its women this way they should be shunned by the rest of the world. this should not be tolerated.
Jen has a good point, but I would like to say this --
Does it really matter if there was sex or not? This is still an absolutely horrible act, and completely barbaric.
I've been reading through the discussion and the major talk here is religion...but again, I ask, does it really matter? Islamic, Christian, satanic, whatever. No matter what the religion is, this is a horrible crime. mdsj posted below me that this is a human right's issue.
Ding, ding.
Whether this person was a woman, man, or child should not matter. It shouldn't matter if she were Middle Eastern, African American, Hispanic, or Caucasian. She was murdered, and if that wasn't enough, her death involved torture. I don't care if she believes in the Flying Spaghetti Monster or if the color of her skin is bright green or if she really did commit adultery.
This has nothing to do with stoning terrorists or anything else. This is a human rights issue. A woman is about to be stoned because she was convicted of adultery this is just madness that people think this is ok. I don't care what part of the world it's in.
Well i wont say removed from the earth but they definitely need a good culture update. Not only that but to stone someone for allegedly committing adultery is insane. Stone murderers and child molestors.
polititicalpoinnt has.........well??? a point! lol That is why a society needs a seperation between church and state.
whats sick about it is just "HOW LONG" it seems to take a society to figure it out and how many need to die a miserable death before they figure it out.
Don't insult the animals. They don't do stuff like this, only humans do. We have such capacity to do good and we (IE: humans) do sh*t like this and worse. Disgusting.
The article is misleading, one only has to google search "Stoning", to see what it's really like. I want to desensitise myself to the reality of what really goes on in the world. What I can tell you is the orgasmic frenzy that occurs with the crowd when the stone throwing begins, a perverse, Godless sight. The article is correct however, that it's a Bible invention, strongly enforced and ordered by God on even children who disobey. It seems God has no tolerance for his creations.
So what's your point? That it's okay because the Judeo-Christian texts admit that their god hates its own creations? Or that it's barbaric that people do this in the name of their god?
"the difference is Christianity stopped doing this, and Islam did not. It is misleading to state that stoning is not in the Koran. It's in the Hadiths, the religious explanations, and ensconced within sharia law. I understand the journalist's point, that the origin is arguably non-Islamic, but there are no Islamic clerics in these countries that still allow this practice that agree. Islam continues this practice today. No other religion does."
Instead of making a fool out of yourself, why don't you site the hadith that says that? Talk is cheap isn't it! what a hypocrite...
Wow there are some hateful synical people who comment on things sometimes (cheetah manic) show a bit of compassion - It is unfortunate that the US groups/celebrities will probably have no pull - our judicial and punishment system is considered a joke by most standards in the world. So when it comes to one that is actually worth trying to turn around those countries typically ignore the pleas. There is and will always have to be just cause and punishment in this world but it appears that in her case, where women have no rights inthat country, that she has probably been unjustly punished. I will pray for her.
@ Massive Dynamic - listen you idiot, if someone comes along and stones your wife or daughter to death based on a hunch, remind me to have no sympathy for you. You'd probably stone your own wife and daughter anyway.
How dare you say something like that? It's pretty clear that this woman is not some extremist. Most people in Iran are not bomb-strapped third world brainwashed idiots. Fool.
I can never understand why women want in any religion. Every religion punish woman more than man, and they also look down woman like a piece garbage. Do all religious freaks know that they are given birth by a woman that they condemn?
@!$%# Shira Law and @!$%# radical Islamists. @!$%# Mohammed too while we're at it and @!$%# all religion as well. Punishments like these make me sick. I wish that all of those who supported such punishments would drop dead as they walk.
And these idiots think they should have nuclear reactors? What joke. How about when you get out of the Stone Age you morons!!!!
What a mindless bigot.....
massive brain damage !!
So, men are only covered up to their waists, but women above their breasts. How convenient....for the men
Coincidence? I think not
Wow Massive...you are such a sweet and loving individual.
Great play on words!!!
MassiveDynamic, you're suspended for a week for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
I advise not commenting in discussions that you find pointless. You seem to attack people when you do that.
I doubt sharia law will ever reach the shores of western nations. However, I would be more concerned of theocracy. Religion, any religion is dangerous when used by those who govern.
Lets bring Islamic law to Hollywood and show them what its like to really be stoned.
Let's get Dylanesque and "everybody must get stoned!"
These are the feudal people that want to convert the world to their version of the Book; it will be impossible for their culture and the western culture to exist side by side, one or the other must be exterminated!
Marco cola - humerous but true
I have not heard that stoning has been carried out in Iran or other countries that have central governments.
justicenow60--
The punishments are up to the judge as with Sharia law there are no lawyers, no jury, just the defendant and the judge.
However, latest report now, she will NOT be stoned to death.
Barbaric no matter what you say. Anyone convicted to stoning should be given exile anywhere the other side of hell.
Justicenow60: Was your Pakistani madrasha flooded? This article is about a stoning in Afghanistan. Your comment below is totally off-topic and should be deleted as well.
saxon, It's with a sad heart that I must agree with you. Sometime the truth is just plain ugly...
How is it done? With rocks small enough to not be called boulders, yet large enough to not be called pebbles.
Unfortunately there are videos out there if you google it.
Of the videos I have seen the suspect is hooded, and placed into a dug out hole, and people gathered around chuck stones, fist size rocks at the head and whatever other part of the body.
3 deleted, cheetah-822547 with a Sharon Stone one-liner that then degenerated into slapfighting about its appropriateness. Back on topic.
The stones may not be larger than the palm of the hand, I have read. Can't let the perp die too quickly, you see.
Yup. There's gotta be a torture aspect for this crime that did not kill anyone...
These are the same people who celebrated whenever the cowards murdered over 3,000 Americans on 9/11. I'm sure the judges who decide this are cowards also.
The Iranians denounced the attackers of 9/11. Our coward government is not capable to stand up to Israel and denounce their war crimes.
justicenow60
Another misguided person in the world of "I think I know it all".
Voice...
Doctor-1979342: I'm hoping you were either 1) trying to be humorous, or 2) not really a Doctor.
"penile" system vs "penal" system??
Hey Doctor.............. Just because YOU were raped in prison, doesnt mean everyone is.
Just askin' mind ya, just askin'...
That is the same view people in more enlighten countries (like most of Europe) think of all death penalty.
Religion will destroy this world one day, but the Muslim they take religion to far but when you do not care about life and killing is your way of life what else can you expect from them. They are very sick people.
M.Winners from Mesa, AZ: If you are male, within the age of 27-38, mostly straight and are single, I want to meet you. What's your favorite drink? :)
# 7.1....agreed
JUST SAYING!
there are some DAMN GOOD POINTS on this particular thread, 7.1....7.3..7.8..AND 7.6. Excellent
replace the 7's with 6's. My bad
#6.1, #8.1 not 7.1 or 9.1
and #8.7 not 9.7
You are right!
Some bickering here over how bad a religion is based on its teachings or texts.
Texts are one thing, and actions by humans are another. Note how all religious beliefs are carried out as actions by humans.
Crusades 800 years ago by Christians? Sure. Bad? Sure.
Stoning or cutting off hands? Perhaps punishment for practicing a religion other than Islam in Iran? Women travelling without a male "guardian"?
Surely those Dark Ages-type acts wouldn't be done today, would they? Surely not by the saintly followers of Sharia law?
4.20
Oh, I guess I better stick this in here so you can see how stupid and young it sounds --
JUST SAYING
M. Winners:
Christianity in a nut shell:
You do too much wondering and not enough reading.
Hey Jeanne, is this why it's okay to kill a doctor that works in a medical clinic that just may happen to offer pregnancy termination services?
Holier than thou. I've got one for you "let he who have no sin cast the first stone".
Stuff it.
I love you M. Winners.
I entered a comment especially for you. You do too much wondering, and not enough time reading. If you want to know what the Bible says, read it.
EWayneS
Read a history book.
EWayneS - perhaps you should read up on the crusades: The Islamic crusades. Do you not know that Muhammed himself started crusades in 630AD? I do not condone either the Christian or Islamic crusades, but you should be more informed before opining so condescendingly.
# 9.1
Iran's olympic baseball pitchers throw the stones. She'll be ok.
Bruce, you're a jerk. I bet you don't have a wife.
#9.7
Then let's talk about the INQUISITIONS! Those Catholics certainly didn't believe anyone who did not adhere to Rome Catholicism had a "RIGHT TO LIFE"
Where do you think the term: giving someone the third degree comes from?
The 3 degree of torture to convince someone to CONVERT! The ones who did not were not let loose to have a LIFE they were KILLED!
Just saying!
hahah Bruce
Jen-Do you have any male companionship?
Wilberta I ask you what religion or person has not done something wrong, throughout history religions have made mistakes but this is 2010 its time for us all to get on the same page and stop this ignorant violence unless you are for stoning because it sound like sine the catholics made a few mistakes this is ok too.
#10.4 and 10.6
Once again you people who can not comprehend what you read or assemble information and have a discourse about it.
Just Knowing!
Just believing.
WTF?
The world has many societies and cultures that are diametrically different from each other. If you brake down the elements of some culture bound traits you can see that they don't make any locical sense. For example, in government some societies allow the richest to control the economy and the laws at the expense of the larger portion of society. They even go as far as letting their sick get more sick and die to capitalize on the whole transition. So stoning to death, while repugnant and messy is nothing more than one element of society exhibiting power over another to maintain control.
True, but it doesn't excuse it. Our big medulla oblongatas should be telling us this isn't cool, but it's not. We are damaged goods.
Check your spelling next time, but good point.
Very true
Spelling man, spelling. Im sure you were on a cell phone or something. that happens to me
If we followed the bible, we'd be doing the same thing and more.
There's no proof of sex!
That shouldn't be the issue here.
Its better to Judge a society on how they treat their animals, the innocent of the innocent. In Christianity, all are born with sin, Animals are not.
Yep, just ask Michael Vick.
Since societies buy into the born into sin thing, it is easy for people to believe they have the
RIGHT "under gods authority" to punish others.
Because after all the omnipotent needs lowly, weak people to do it's bidding for it!
Religious laws in the hands of a conservative government dominated by religious ideaology.
Seperation of Church and State must survive to prevent this kind of inhumanity.
Unfortunately there is no such thing as seperation of church and state. We have no such laws.
Seperation of church and state was just an ideological note in the federalists papers. Should check into that a little bit more before commenting.
You are absolutly correct it states their will be no Federally mandated religious organization (no mandatory religion)
polititicalpoinnt has.........well??? a point! lol That is why a society needs a seperation between church and state.
whats sick about it is just "HOW LONG" it seems to take a society to figure it out and how many need to die a miserable death before they figure it out.
animals
Don't insult the animals. They don't do stuff like this, only humans do. We have such capacity to do good and we (IE: humans) do sh*t like this and worse. Disgusting.
Actually, chimps have been observed killing each other in 'chimp wars'.
Yeah before the flood, now it is irrelevant

"the difference is Christianity stopped doing this, and Islam did not. It is misleading to state that stoning is not in the Koran. It's in the Hadiths, the religious explanations, and ensconced within sharia law. I understand the journalist's point, that the origin is arguably non-Islamic, but there are no Islamic clerics in these countries that still allow this practice that agree. Islam continues this practice today. No other religion does."
Instead of making a fool out of yourself, why don't you site the hadith that says that? Talk is cheap isn't it! what a hypocrite...
MassiveDynamic, your remarks make clear that you hold the same extremist point-of-view as a terrorist.
Fool.
Jen....I think there were several hunches involved in the lady's fate.
This is so sickening I could not finish reading the description of this barbaric practice.
Their own filthy ayatolahs each have several wives, some of them minors.
This %^@# Muslim 7th century mentality wants to have nuclear weapons?
If you cant finish reading this, then try reading what the do to Animals in labs and stuff, thats worse. But still....this is bad, AND unfair
I can never understand why women want in any religion. Every religion punish woman more than man, and they also look down woman like a piece garbage. Do all religious freaks know that they are given birth by a woman that they condemn?
.....OWNED
How about we stone them with a 100 megaton stone......
That's more like it.
You bomb them back to the stone age because they are already there!
@!$%# Shira Law and @!$%# radical Islamists. @!$%# Mohammed too while we're at it and @!$%# all religion as well. Punishments like these make me sick. I wish that all of those who supported such punishments would drop dead as they walk.
