This is why I moved the heck out of New Jersey.Cold, @!$%#ty winters,Hot ,humid summers! Throw in the mosquito being the state bird and it all adds up to be a challenging place to live. Oh and not to overlook the highest taxes in the nation makes me wonder why so many people live there!
I live in NH, and nowhere in the FARMER'S ALMANAC can I find the WEATHER CONDITION - HAZE? In the mountains we always get FOG warnings, but HAZE?
HAZE IS A MAN MADE WEATHER CONDITION!
NEW JERSEY AIR QUALITY MUST BE DEADLY! NH has a "EMERGECNCY WEATHER WARNING"? NEW JERSEY and NEW YORK CITY must be 'breathing concrete' areas of HAZE! THESE AREAS ARE SURELY DEADLY!
It is not even 8:00 AM EST and the NH power grid is already 'choppy', and thus a 'BROWN OUT' or a 'BLACK OUT' of the power grid is eminent!
Dictionary definition - HAZE:
particles in atmosphere: mist, cloud, or smoke suspended in the atmosphere and obscuring or obstructing the view
vague obscuring factor: something that is vague and serves to obscure something
disoriented mental or physical state: a mental or physical state or condition when feelings and perceptions are vague, disorienting
THEY SAY THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING?
Hazeis 'WEATHER SPEAK' for a VERY HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM that is so dense that it will not allow all of the MAN MADE AIR POLLUTANTS to rise and disburse into the stratosphere!
I can deal with FOG, HUMIDITY, and LOW CLOUD FORMATIONS, but HAZE?
Even the US WEATHER SERVICE says the AIR IS DANGEROUS TO BREATH! THAT IS THEIR "CODE RED WEATHER WARNING"!
MASSIVE tectonic plate movement, in the past months, all around the world, man made pollution that has made the air quality 'deadly', and the economic collapse world wide(which still has not seen its bottom), wars in two countries, the GULF being relegated to extinction from an oil spill they WILL NOT STOP ( IT CAN BE STOPPED, BUT AT A SEVERE ECONOMIC LOSS TO 'BP' ( that is why the clean-up is cheaper), the glaciers all over the world are melting, and the gulf stream water pumping in the northern seas has slowed its natural process (NEW ICE AGE)-------WHERE IN THE HELL ARE WE HEADED?
I,ve gotta get out of here, but there is nowher to hide!
'DOOMS DAY MENTALITY' - you can bet your ass that 'chicken little' is right - THE SKY IS FALLING! THERE IS NOWHERE TO HIDE!
PS: By the time these posting get to "POST PAGE # 5 on NEWSVINE" this whole issue will be turned around to BUSH vs. OBAMA, bigots + racists making inane postings, Republican vs. Democrats vs. Independents vs. Tea Bagger's vs. Liberals vs. Socialist's vs. EVERYONE AGAINST EVERYONE!
WHY CAN'T WE ALL BE MINDFUL PEOPLE, with a 'WE THE PEOPLE' mentality, joined together, as a REPUBLIC UNITED, with the MINDFUL INTENT OF FIXING FOR THE "GOOD OF ALL", but NO....................................! This like all NEWSINE POSTING COLUMNS WILL DIVERGE INTO THE MEANING LESS!
people prefer heat wave than arctic blast anytime. Life stops during arctic weather but we have rivers, lakes, beaches and swimming pools with BBQ's to offset heat waves.
Interesting, that the global warming deniers aren't commenting on this heat weather conditions, yet last winter when it was too cold they mock global warming, especially Rush Limbaugh.
What was the reason for all the heat waves back when I was six years old in 1953? The same reasons we have heat waves today. The sun. I've lived though a few heat waves and one deep freeze in the 1970's when the politicians were screaming the ice age was coming back.
Excuse me if I'm not buying the political money makers of today. Only fools are buying into the global warming hype. See ya in ten years when the cold returns and you're telling us all how silly you were to buy the global warming crapola.
I agree. If the global warming crowd would look back at history they would see that the glaciers are shrinking just as they have been doing for thousands of years. The glaciers used to reach down into Ohio, Montana, Wyoming and beyond and they are still shrinking. And yes the oceans are rising just like they have done before. Sea fosils have been found in the Rocky Mountains, most of south Texas used to be under water, what is now called the coastal plain. So yes these things are happening just as they have happened for millions of years. Nature is a cyclical thing, some years we have hotter summers, some years we have colder winters. It is not the end of the world, it's the nature of the world. All this global warming crap is just an attempt to wrest more control over our lives and a big "Gimme" for trumped up research money. The world will continue to change and species will continue to adapt, even humans.
Amazing how extreme weather only makes the national news when it occurs on the east coast.
^this
Interesting, that the global warming deniers aren't commenting on this heat weather conditions, yet last winter when it was too cold they mock global warming, especially Rush Limbaugh.
^this too.
I have to agree even though this heat wave neither confirms nor denies any theory regarding global warming.
It's not that I think the heatwave proves anything, I'm just enjoying the non-ignorant silence...
spider "...national news when it occurs on the east coast." don't forget California, because all the important people live in Cal and EastCoast, the rest of the country are nothing but rednecks and hillbillies whose opinions we don't care for.
3rdpartyadvocate --- East Coast = heat waves in summer, cold/freezing temps in winter. What a surprise.
In the 1950s, we didn't have even window unit air-conditioners. As a kid, I'd awaken in the morning with my hair soaked with perspiration.
In the 1970s, we had several blizzards dropping 3 feet of snow. For NJ, that much snow is a rare occurence in a single snowfall. Road crews couldn't find new places to put the snow, because the piles were already 6 -8 feet high.
I do prefer the new PC-correct term of "climate change" over "global warming," simply because the climate DOES change and has done so through the Earth's existence. Nothing new.
We'll survive this current hot weather, just as we always do. Advice to those who have babies, young children, immune system compromised people, and elderly people in your lives: keep them out of the sun, preferably in indoor air-conditioned environments .... and well-hydrated.
Interesting, that the global warming deniers aren't commenting on this heat weather conditions, yet last winter when it was too cold they mock global warming, especially Rush Limbaugh.
Deniers being of free will, though arguably less so than well adjusted human beings because of their propensity for gravitating towards some source of light in the same fashion small flying insects seem mesmerized by even the most modest porch light glow.
They demonstrate classic behavioral traits normally associated with personalities having a susceptibility towards marginalizing reality to fit within the diminutive confines of their developmentally ingrained revulsion for the magnitude of the actual truth in any situation.
Here in Fresno California it was 108 for two days in a row last week and it's barely dropped below 100 since then. Is it a "heat wave"? Nah... this is normal around here. Just wait 'till August when it might hit 115 on a really hot day. Now that's a heat wave.
Or for fun, try Phoenix, they think 115 is balmy! Of course, I think you'd have to be balmy yourself to live in Phoenix, but that's just me!
Mikey - I have family in Fresno, and I've visited them in August. My rental car's steering wheel was so hot that I could barely hold it. What we're experiencing here on the East coast is nothing ... a summer "blip" ..... but the media is portraying this as if we're all hysterical.
It's the East Coast ,it's July,it's HOT!! How does this relate to anything other than the fact it's summer?? We're about to enter our SECOND heat wave of the summer here in the Mid-South. It may hit 100 before it's over but that's a normal summer here. Our first heat wave was nearly three weeks, this one is forecast to be less than a week, which is mild for July if anything. It was 88 degrees with low humidity on the 4th. Unless you've spent many summers here, you have no idea how rare that is (low humidity with a temp in the 80's on the 4th of July) !! I'm pretty sure we'll survive no matter how long this next wave lasts. Compared to two years ago when I was sweating in a tent in the Iraqi desert (well over 100 INSIDE every day, thanks to geniuses that shut off and refueled the generator at 3:00 p.m. even though it was a military generator that's designed to be refueled while it's running!) this is paradise!!!
Summer time and the living is easy, but it's sho is hot. Yep that's summer alright and all this MSM whining to get back on the Glob-Al warming hissy is just not going to work and in fact it just may lose them more viewer and readers.
Face it MSM your boy Sweet Lips Algore has to much sex drive for a massuse gal and can't control his rich butt in the presence of a ordinary working woman, the news is in the paper if you care to read it but why lower yourselves. Summer heat happens just like stuff happens, so would you please refrain from trying the old Algore stupid trick of fooling the public and scaring the the snot out of them....
If it only takes a few 100+ degree weathers to stress the electrical grid, I wonder about a million of so called electrical cars will do? If it ever comes to that point.
I was born and raised in Fresno Ca and yep I can second or third the 112 -115 days July through September. And yes you could cook a egg on the street. Now I live in Nor Cali. We get hot over 100 for a few days then its back to 80ish. Thanks to the Delta Breeze
I also went out east during the summer once in Jersey and once in Florida. I'll take the dry heat over humidity any day. Imagine working all day in 115 degree weather. working in the sun picking our crops. I have done it and standing at a newspaper stand is hardly a comparison. Think of sticky grape juice and Bees. No shade except under the vines in the dirt. Thank god for the (legal) field workers (Mexicans) My dad made me pick with them to show me what real work was.
Drink water stay out of the direct sunlight and take care of the old folks out there. They are the ones who die from heat exposure the most.
Oh and for the electrical grid it is outdated and way overdue for a major overhaul. Each of the systems from the East coast to the pacific are stressed. That is the reason why we need to build more Dams and solar and wind. And to make sure the existing dams are safe. Many are about to burst.
The best way to create the jobs here at home is to put the effort into our infrastructure. Electric and Hydrogen fuel cell cars are coming along with CNG. It is only a mater of time. So bashing it makes people sound like the same people who said. The Car would never be mass produced. Or that the Internet would flop.
When we dare to enter into a debate on climate, we need to stop arguing about weather systems, as there is a difference. And by demonstrating we do not understand this very basic element, we destroy any credibility we have to even speak on these matters.
In Glacier National Park alone, we have gone from 150 named glaciers in 1850, down to 26 as of 2006. Say what you will, but over time, they are melting, and disappearing forever. This is an undeniable fact. You can say anything you want down there, smug in your a/c and gas guzzling SUVs, but the reality is; there is a geological event in progress. Call it what you will, but it is trending toward glacial meltdown, and has been since the advent of the industrial age. All things must be paid for, and there is a bill coming due for mass industrialization without consideration to anything else. Deniers in general are simply cheerleaders for callous disregard…
The Columbia Glacier in Prince William Sound has been reduced by over 33% in the last 25 years alone and is losing 80ft of ice a day (and is now considered the fastest melting glacier on the planet). It is now dumping 2 cubic miles of ice into the sound a year. In terms of geology, 25 years is considered a blink of the eye; barely an instant, and this one massive glacier is being reduced before our very eyes. In terms of physical science this is astonishing to witness, as most geological processes are extremely slow and rarely visible. Think about erosion as a process; it takes centuries to whittle down a mountain, one grain of sand at a time...
Unlike many, I believe we need to spend research money on Columbia to find out if the accelerated meltdown is caused or aggravated by the 90% of the Exxon-Valdez oil that remains to be cleaned up in the sound, and its potential affect on the glacier and surrounding waters. Sadly, wingnuts claim “understanding” is wasteful, and prefer spending money on Bridges to Nowhere. The knowledge would be very useful to us now, as we know for a fact that hurricane frequency and severity are tied to superheated ocean water, and if there is a strong correlation in Alaska from oil in the water, we can magnify that by many fold in the Gulf of Mexico (given the subtropical climate in the Gulf).
THAT knowledge could have served us well in assembling a reasonable regulatory environment prior to the Deepwater Horizon events. Now, all we have left is aftermath (and partisan finger pointing) we cannot control. When it comes to lack of foresight; all mankind loses equally, and blaming everybody else (except ourselves) just so much more wasted energy. But the greatest fault in mankind is our blatant refusal to even consider what is happening around us, and, based on true knowledge, taking the necessary steps needed to prevent nightmare scenarios. In fact, the cheapest way to live is to simply die. That’s the damned bottom line coming straight at us from 40+ years of blind neglect produced from a bottom dollar rules all mentality. High voltage wires need insulation, really? Cheapskates everywhere will only pay for the wire…
There are also numerous reports of villages near the Arctic Circle having blooms of spring flowers now (since 2005), and that has never happened before in our history. It sounds cute to think out of nowhere flowers are blooming in the tundra; but why? Tundra is frozen ground (year round) and not conducive to hosting plants of many kinds (mainly bog and peat moss). How is it now possible that spring flowers are blooming in it? Insert theme song from The Life of Brian, nailed on a cross, whistling; Always look on the bright side of life…Me? I see those flowers as akin to canaries in a coal mine.
And in regards using the snowstorm in DC last year as evidence there is no warming effect present; we show how little we understand, as that storm was largely caused by superheated waters in the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean (warm water from rain runoff coming from the James and Potomac Rivers, as days prior to the storm it had been unseasonably warm, but rained heavily), meeting cold air (the jet stream was pinned on the Pennsylvania-Maryland border) and collectively caused a low pressure stationary "spinner" near where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean (close to the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area). As low pressure spinners rotate counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere, it pumped a seemingly endless amount of water into the Penn-Maryland cold front and actually rained snow down on DC from the north (even though the source system was south of DC). Without the cold front locked on the Penn border, it would have just been another mild winter rain. Put the cold front together with the low pressure spinner (and they locked each other in place for days, both refusing to budge), all caused by the superheated waters, and BAM!
And talking heads went on TV the next several days to say it was evidence that "global warming" was a myth. Whether global warming is or is not a myth was not proven by the events in DC, but the fact talking heads are idiots was proven, beyond any reasonable doubt. Short-sighted, small span of attention, and hot-headed is no way to successfully go through life; better to go the Animal House route and puke on Dean Wormer (fat, dumb, and drunk, the Dean said, just before Flounder puked on him). At least you’ll have fun that way…
(NOTE: the glacial ice caps are true conservatism in action; as they serve as reserves of water that, by design, are held in ice and used on demand to equalize spike irregularities in ocean temperatures, slow releasing ice into the ocean currents to buffer the water temperature (as ocean current water temperature is a known climate driver). The ice caps collectively form an incredible and natural feedback control system with the oceans. Utter perfection as an organic process. For American conservatives to attack the fact such a system exists for our benefit, leads one to wonder if they truly believe in anything that really is conservative or not. The rapid release of ice into the various ocean currents we see now, particularly in the northern hemisphere, leads to the simple conclusion this is “nature’s way of telling us, something’s wrong”. For conservatives to come back with “Burn, baby, burn” in the face of this, is astonishingly tone deaf, and anti-conservative just on principle alone. Teddy Roosevelt would be spinning in his grave at the complete lack of foresight exhibited by his contemporary brethren. Let alone what is happening to his beloved American glaciers…
In a weird twist; the ice caps are very similar to our reserve banking system, well, when it’s operated correctly, as the monetary reserves are used for similar purposes when spike irregularities occur in the monetary system. Filling the reserve vaults with worthless trash, should have served as a wakeup call to us in 2008. Unfortunately, supposed “conservatives” are still lambasting the reserve system instead of examining the underlying processes that produced such spikes in the first place. Again, not very conservative, and gradually leading us to a society which thinks “black is white”.)
So how much is 2 + 2 in your world? Big Brother informs us the answer is 5. And we all know, what Big Brother wants, Big Brother gets. (Note: if you think the answer is 4, Big Brother has an appointment scheduled for your face, a bucket, and a bunch of rats. For all you cheerleaders out there, the 2+2 construct is an allusion to the George Orwell book “1984”. A much better read, than say, “And Atlas Shrugged”. 1984 is what happens if you blindly believe in, and follow, “And Atlas Shrugged”).
I'm not smug in my gas guzzling I'm cooling down from driving my 28 mpg 4 cyl. pick up (not hot enough to drive the 17 mpg air conditioned one yet!). My thermostat is set on 79 degrees and my A/C didn't kick on until 5:00 this afternoon. I've been conserving resources for 20+ years and I still say Cap and Trade is a f**King joke. The reason the British set the Lockerbie bomber free (besides his "alleged" cancer)?? They needed oil from Libya thanks to the STUPIDITY of being on a Cap and Trade system. The model of a country with a "green" economy? BANKRUPT Spain who turned tail and ran from Afghanistan after their subways were attacked (on 3/11/2003) !!!! You want the immediate answers to our energy needs? Build NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS. France is far ahead of Great Britain and Spain thanks to the foresight of building nuclear power plants for their high speed rail and they have the reserve capacity to add more EV's something we don't. The ugly truth is Solar and wind power will never be more than a supplement to other sources of power and they are nowhere near being cost effective at the present time for more than a tiny percentage of out electrical energy needs. As far as Privately owned vehicles go, the best current "green" form of transportation is a parallel hybrid. These provide the best combination of lower carbon output with the least amount of compromise. EV's are not only not cost effective but pure EV's aren't even close to solving the issue of limited range. Only the "extended range" Chevrolet Volt does that with its' onboard generator. We need to encourage conservation and I have no problem with a gas tax if it's designed to reduce our debt and if it's adjustable so we don't end up with $4+ a gallon gas (which was one of several factors in the economy's collapse)YET !! Putting our oil based economy as well as our mobility at risk by "offshoring" our already meager refining capacity makes no sense at all. Speaking of subsidies the fact our corn farmers' lobby has locked out other forms of ethanol (not to mention using sugar as a sweetener in soft drinks) is a joke!! We need to use other ingredients for our renewable portion of fuel and that along with sensible regulation of drilling will go far toward stretching the supply of fuel and limiting the amount we import!!
Now let me refute your point with some real live common sense. I have yet to find a Liberal debate me on the following.
For all you renewable energy fanatics, I have a few simple questions. How many of you have had a home audit by RESNET to determine your homes energy efficiency? How many of you are driving in the most fuel efficient vehicles available? How many of you have reinsulated your homes to the maximum R-rating recommendations? How many of you have had your windows and doors upgraded to the newest NFRC standards? How many of you have replaced your outdated appliances according to the new Energy Star applications, including your furnace and air conditioning? How many of you have installed a geothermal, solar or wind turbine system to release you from the grip of the utility companies? How many of you travel to work in car pools? How many of you travel on vacation by rail rather than car or plane? I can go on and on.
Not many I bet.
Why not?
Because you're all too lazy, uninformed and so hell bent against fossil fuels you can't think straight. You all sit here and rail against BP, the oil industry, the coal industry, nuclear energy and any other proven energy sources yet you sit in your totally inefficient, drafty, ancient homes and cars and BITCH about the glaciers disappearing and the humidity from the recent rain storms caused the dew point to go down and the haze impeded your vision,,,or some such nonsense.!!!!
Don't even TRY to excuse yourselves by claiming there's an unavailability of resources. The Alternative Energy Institute was created in 1977, OVER 30 years ago. I had a geothermal system installed nearly 20 years ago that still works perfectly. I have enough solar collection to fuel 78% of my home,,,YEAR ROUND! My insulation R ratings are all at or above recommended by the Weatherization Assistance Program guidelines. I have updated my appliances over 4 times in the last 23 years using Energy Star recommendations. I do have an inneficient 1999 Ford F-150,,,EXCUSE ME. This has come at significant cost outlay on my part but MY carbon footprint is 28% of the average American household and my cost savings are double what they would have been otherwise.
And guess what?
I still promote "drill baby drill"!!!!
Why? Because we don't have enough people doing what they SHOULD be doing and thousands of everyday products are made from coal, oil and natural gas. Most of you talk a big game as far as energy independence, global warming, green this and green that but you don't do SH*T about it.
The problem with you Liberal Progressive, tree-huggering, Spotted Owl nutcases is YOU don't want to do it, you want the GOVERNMENT to do it for you. You're too busy watching Idol and Dancing with the Stars, sitting in your La-Z-Boy sucking down a bottle of Bud Light. Your Messiah, Al "multi million dollar mansion" Gore, is making fools of you all and you just sit by, uninvolved, unaware, uneducated other than what your "party" wants you to know. Obama keeps the temperature cranked up in the White House until you can grow Orchids in there, but Cap & Tax is a MUST!!!!!
Hypocrites!
When I finally see those who are CLAIMING there's a crisis acting like there's a crisis, I'll believe there's a crisis
The sun's radiation - the thing that the carbon traps, sort of is low right now. The only region in the setting records range is the north-east which is the smallest portion of the US. Just as a double check - The north pole ice, currently the lowest in 9 years has slowed melting som much that the current path will take it out of the lowest range within a week. We went from the highest amount of ice in 9 years to the lowest amount in 9 years from a short spike in the sun's radiation in Feb& march combined with two major eruptions by an Icelandic volcano from March to May. Each time sending hot water, and lava into the ocean. Currents take that hot water north and speeds up the melting of the sea ice. If you can find some current aerials of the sea ice you will see that the ice is retreating on the Iceland side faster than that of the Russian/Alaskan Side.
You can apply this to the record melts from 2003 - 2007. Japanese Scientist pointed out that there was heavy underwater volcanic activity off their northern most coast to the degree that the north coast waters were 1 degree warmer than the southern coast waters. The ocean pattern is that warm surface water moves north, is cooled by melting the glaciers at a faster pace.
Likewise Australian scientists have reported in 2009 that southern shore temperatures were 1/2 C degree warmer than north shore temperatures. The reason - heavy undersea volcanic activity between them and Antartica.
This is not to say carbon doesn't cause warming, just that it is not the prime cause.
Could it be true? Could human's use of fossil fuels have started just in his lifetime, thereby meaning that he has a long-term frame of reference as to whether or not the climate has begun to heat up since his youth?
Perhaps he is right...if he is over two hundred years old, that is. Coal is a fossil fuel. Coal puts carbon in the atmosphere. Mankind has been using that fossil fuel since the start of the industrial revolution. That means that mankind has been puting the necessary ingredients to create global warming into the atmosphere since...way before he was even born. And before they were using coal...they were adding carbon to the atmosphere way before coal was used by starting fires to clear land, or stay warm. This would add to the carbon being put into the atmosphere by natural forest fires. Nature as set up back then could probably tolerate it in small amounts...but we have been changing that balance for millenia now.
And unless 3rdpartyadvocate is a millenia old, it is pretty silly of him to talk about how he saw hot temperatures in his youth as if that refutes the scientific theory of global warming/climate change. Thank you for your entertaining ramblings, 3rdparty.... You illustrate once again that you do not really grasp what you are even discussing.
I agree with those who say that global warming/climate change is real, is contributed to by humans...but that it is impossible with current scientific technology to calculate just how much is man-made. The truth is...global temperatures have a lot to do with the oceanic streams flowing all around the planet. In the time of the dinosaurs...temps were hotter, but there was also no Central America that changed the flow of the ocean streams. The earth was more volcanically active back then, too. We are approaching the heat the dinosaurs experienced with a Central America above the waves...and with less volcanic activity than there was during the dinosaurs multi-hundred million year reign.
Rather than merely opining about how things do not seem any hotter than when you were a boy (unless of course, you were born a few years before the industrial revolution even began), maybe all need to start asking ourselves..."With so many differences between when the dinosaurs walked the planet and when we reign on it...why do there seem to be some similarities in climate for the two?"
Also...the change that climatologists talk about is slow...a half-degree to a full degree every century on average worldwide. Would you really even notice such a subtle change in your neck of the woods?...in a span of several decades.
It is duh, summer. You think 102 degrees is hot? In Bakersfield, Ca where we live, our July temperatures reach 110. What about states like Arizona? The east coast needs to to complaining and acting as though they have set unknown records. Go play in the sprinklers....
Many of you are all in a tither about this climate change. Get over it...We can't do anything to change it. It's the earth natural course and climate change has been happening for millions of years. And what about the idi*t that brought up volcanoes? Get a clue...we can't do anything to prevent earth quakes, volcanoes or the weather.
I do not know if you know this, sanda, as you are asserting that men cannot alter the "natural course" of the earth, but since 1800 only about half of the tropical rain-forests of the world remain. Consider then that, in addition to the natural sources of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, we pump billions of tons of additional cO2 into the atmosphere each year, as well as billions of tons of methane and other greenhouse gases.
What we have done then is effectively halved the earth's capacity to recycle cO2 while simultaneously and exponentially increasing the amount of CO2 that needs to be recycled. Even the oceans are becoming more acidic from the accumulation of CO2. How then can one believe that drastically altering the composition of the earth's atmosphere will not affect its climate?.
Though we were given the world to hold dominion over, we were also charged with replenishing it, and while we have indeed dominated, we have failed to replenish. We trample God's gifts with so little regard, and when anyone raises objection, he is slandered.
Does it not say plainly in Revelations that those who are destroying the earth will be punished? Perhaps the most tragic thing about this situation it is that those who should know better, those with spiritual principles, ride on the vanguard of the destruction. Where then is the fear before God?
Is it so difficult to believe that, like the fruit of any other vice, the wages of our greed and unrestrained self-indulgence will be commensurate to the intensity with which we seek to gratify them? Does it seem so mad to think that the end will be brought upon ourselves by our own hands?
LOL Chris I was thinking about this subject earlier when I was killing fruit flies. They are little vultures and live maybe seven days. I was like a mad woman killing them. I know they don't really think but all beings try to save themselves and they went nuts when I was spraying them. I thought Hmmm I wonder what they are thinking. They live happily eating stupid crumbs and all of a sudden their world changes. Why because they over freaking populated and kept eating, eating ,eating.
I know this is far from what is going on with us. But maybe they just flew around in ignorant bliss ruining their world from being so greedy. I was like an evil entity deciding they were doing to much damage and must go.
I know that it will be our faults that humanity will end. I do doubt though It will be now . People are now waking up to what is happening and anything that happens is "the end of the world" But there has always been heatwaves, floods, tornado's etc. The press just has a field day because they know we are in a state of fear . Intelectually I know that 2012 probably will come and go like 1999 did with no changes but I do worry sometimes.
Anywhoo sorry for the stupid rant I just couldnt help myself thinking about those nasty fruit flies.
Please Please PARENTS do not leave your children in cars. there are record number of deaths with children. How people forget their kids is beyond me but anyway. Also If you walk by a car and see a child in it. FORGET thinking your being nosey and call 911
I bought a case of water and put it all in freezer in case power goes out and got candles .
If you know any elderly people check on them. Alot of oldtimers tend to live like the old days and won't buy airconditioners.
A woman died today from drinking and being in the sun.
My heart goes out to people in prisons who are in skanky jails that don't have ac. Also if i was a construction worker I would call of. I know I know but that is just me/
Stay cool all and kudos to anyone who read my book here SORRY.
Gotta say I agree with the comment that its only really 'hot' or really 'cold' on the East Coast! I live in Phoenix and it really frosts (pun intended) how energy/fuel costs are only subsidized for people in the East. Sure, it gets mega cold in winter and there are people who have difficulty paying for relief, but it gets mega X 10 HOT here in the Southwest. Every year we have many elderly die from heat related problems because they can't afford to pay an electric bill that jumps anywhere from $100 to over over $200 extra dollars/month in the summer. Scores of homeless (including mentally ill Veterans, so shut up) die from heatstroke and dehydration every summer. Then there are the heat-related illnesses that can permanently damage, plus the medical costs. In 2005 we had about 225 deaths, fortunately, the number dropped to 110 in 2009 due to emergency water stations (started by PFD with community contributions) and emergency responders checking up on people at-risk. We have freezing nights in winter, too. Again, the elderly, poor and homeless suffer - we have winter related deaths caused by temperatures, low-income using charcoal/parafin/kerosene heaters indoors, etc. Assistance should be distributed in all needed areas, not just the Northeast. BTW, I've lived here for 40 years and the temperatures have averaged somewhat higher... our hottest temp. was 122 degrees. (a day that just happened to included a 5-alarm fire at a business with METAL roofed buildings. We were still wearing polyester uniforms, too!!!!) Don't believe the 'dry' heat CofC stuff, we get monsoons every summer and the humidity is gad-awful. Not as bad as, say, Massachusetts, but its not 110 degrees in Mass. either. :)
Welllll.....just needed to vent. Shouldn't complain too much, only 108 today.
3rdparty, did it occur to you that perhaps we should be more mindful of the mess we are making of this planet, and not griping about global warming advocates who are attempting to give us a wakeup call? Never mind, we should simply keep raping this planet of rescources, spewing oil into the oceans, and bringing an end to other species. As long as WE get what we want.
Chris B....You are correct I am asserting we cannot change the natural course of the earth. I do think we can each do our part in trying to clean up after ourselves and go as green as possible, but this still is not going to change anything in the big picture. Just like ashla mentioned 2012, the alignment of these planets and what the effect it will have on earth we don't know, and there is nothing we can do to change it. Now you've brought God into the story. God is a big part of my life, I was brought up in the church. I gonna submit a question for you the same question I asked my minister and he just kind of looked dumb founded and stumbled around my question. Why should I fear God? I love him, he is why I'm here and gave me life. We are all born sinners and judgement day will come. But I am not afraid to face God...That will be the happiest day of my life. I will take my judgement and bow down to my creator, but never fear him only love him.
It is as it says in Romans 3:14-18 of the wickedness of man:
"Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes."
This fear is necessary for our faith, but it is not the fear of a murderer or tyrant; it is the fear of one's fears master, whom he has wronged.
I too feel God's love, and I love him -- he is our father. But I know in my heart my wretchedness, and when I meet God I will depend on mercy rather than justice for salvation. For none of us have earned salvation -- and as Paul has said, none are worthy -- but are granted salvation as a gift.
Therefore we take great pains to humble ourselves before God, who is our master, in order that we may be deemed worthy of mercy; not because our works are meritorious, but because they are filled with love and appreciation. This self-denial, awe, and humility is the fear before God of which Paul speaks, and of which we strive to attain.
That being said sanda, we have been given the power to dominate, and the commandment to replenish. This commandment is important, considering just how powerful is our influence to alter nature's balance. Consider that in just 30 years, from between 1960 and 1990, 1.7 million square miles of tropical rain forest -- those that stood the last ice age when all the world around them became frozen and waste -- have been clear cut. Only half of the rain forests are left standing, but still the rate of cutting has not slowed, with 2% being felled each year.
Consider also that roughly half of the world's biodiversity exists in these tropical rain-forests -- half of the irreplaceable treasure of life and creation-- and you can see that the current man caused extinction events are proof enough of our power to destroy.
Even those creatures which we admire are not immune from our exploitation. Just 50 years ago, nearly a half a million lions lived in Africa. Now there are as few as 16,000 , a decline of more than 95%. Another example is the orangutan, which has lost 90% of its original habitat and, at the current rate of decline, is expected to be extinct in the wild by 2020. This sort of thing is happening world wide, and while those two animals have had the benefit of human support, many more do not and will likely go extinct without man's help.
Close to 800 species have gone extinct in only the last 400 years, and almost 16,000 are threatened with extinction. This is well beyond the "background" rate of extinction, and is comparable to the "great extinction" events of the fossil record, although at a faster rate. Take the passenger pigeon, which was once the most numerous bird on the planet. Within 100 years it went extinct because of over hunting and clearcutting.
Did not God find his works good, even before he created man? And then, when of all the humans in the world, only a single family escaped the wrath, did God not task Noah with preserving every specie, from the lowliest creeping animal to the very birds of the air? How then, I ask you, do you justify how swiftly we have undone these works?
I pray that we Christians will take our rightful place as defenders of the wild and of God's creation against those who would ravage it for simple luxury and wealth. The cult of Mammon is tireless and strong, but if we can unite as a nation, Christian and otherwise, we can preserve the earth from those who care only to exploit it.
With all due respect .... what does Christianity, or ANY religion for that matter ..... have to do with an East Coast heat wave in July? Hot weather in the summer on the East Coast is a natural occurence .... it has nothing to do with religion. It also has nothing to do with global warming, climate change or whatever the Al Gore word-du-jour might be!!
I never attributed this particular heat wave to global warming...my whole posts are to answer those who dispute its very existence. It all started when those who support the theory pointed out that...the deniars should explain the heat wave, because they always point to snow storms in February as "Proof that global warming is a hoax". Some of the deniars then came out and questioned the theory. I put that out there to illustrate the soundness of the theory...the fact that greenhouse gasses are what actually brings our planet some moderation in temperature at all. If you do not believe that greenhouse gasses have an impact...go stand on Mars on the side facing the sun and the side facing away from the sun and tell me there is no difference between that...and the side of the earth facing the sun...and the side facing away from the sun. Go stand on Venus and tell me that there is no such thing as a greenhous effect.
At least Chris tries to use hard science to explain things...and uses God to merely fill in the blanks of what science has yet to explain. What do you use?
If you admit that Mars and Venus are as I just described due to greenhouse gasses...but not earth, and that there is no room in the equation for God making the effect of greenhouse gasses more mitigated on earth...then why are the laws different here on earth, than on other planets. You seem to just say that it is different...but have no explanation, or even a curiosity about why it would be different.
Not once have I claimed that global warming is responsible for this particular heat wave. Most of us who have argued that global warming in fact exists...have not, either. But you seem to have missed that point, because you only seem to hear what you want to hear, or in this case, read what you want to read.
What I have been arguing this whole time...is that it is foolish to say that temps have always been this hot because they have been this hot in the summertime in one's lifetime. Last summer, it rarely got above 80 degrees in my neck of the woods...so saying that it "happens every year at this time" is just not accurate. I am not claiming that it is normally that cool in the summer; I had seen some real scorchers before last year, myself.
But it is very foolish to argue against the theory because temps have not rose that much in our lifetime. MANKIND HAS BEEN RELEASING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF CARBON INTO THE ATMOSPHERE SINCE BEFORE YOU WERE BORN, SINCE BEFORE YOUR PARENTS WERE BORN...SINCE BEFORE YOUR GRANDPARENTS WERE BORN. UNLESS YOU WERE BORN PRIOR TO THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, OR EVEN BEFORE THE WOODLANDS IN GREAT BRITAIN WERE DESTROYED...YOU HAVE NO REAL FRAME OF REFERENCE. NONE OF US DO IN THAT REGARD!
You simplify the discussion with your comments that, "It is summer; it got hot this time last year...it gets hot every time around this time of year." This is especially true when I pointed out that we had a serious thaw that created flood warnings here on Christmas Day. Does that usually happen?
While the East Coast and Midwest experienced a below average summer last year...what was going on in Alaska? In Russia? Were they experiencing warmer than average summers.
There are two fundamental questions that go beyond all the anecdotal evidence on both sides...
1) Does the theory that greenhouse gasses trap in heat make sense? Can it be tested...say by looking average day-night temperatures where there are no greeenhouse gasses at all (Mars), or where the amount is high (Venus)? From what I have seen...the answer is "yes".
2) What is the trend overall?
From what I have seen...there has been a warming trend. It was really severe in the 1990s, but seems less severe in the 2000s. But, worldwide, it is still present in the 2000s.
Global warming exists...not because Al Gore says so, or because of one heat wave on the East Coast...but because of the points I have just made.
To quote James Inhoffe (but in reverse), global warming exists..."We won, you lost. Get over it!"
Of course...you can't seem to listen...so you will read this whole thing, only to say that I am trying to argue for the existence of global warming based on the one heat wave...or based on the fact that I saw "An Inconvenient Truth" one time. Word to the wise, NJ, the theory was around long before it became Al Gore's pet cause...................................
Do a little research on the leading global warming skeptics/deniers, and you will find that many of them are the same folks who led the Tobacco Industry's push to deny that smoking is harmful to health.
Richard Willis, 52, was one of a few dozen homeless men in Franklin Square, a small park in downtown Washington." "I've been through many summers. I'm experienced."
What the hell is wrong with you Richard, get a damn job doing anything, you loser.
I would love to have a job instead of a measly 57 dollors a week of unemployment that my last job gets me.
I work at a great paying job for 15 years and get "laid off". I refuse to stay on unemployment and find another job. Thats lasted two months and I get "laid off" again.
My reward for working instead of sitting on my ass is a starving family because the goverment won't let me backclaim the higher amount
I'm sure my kids would love new shoes and that decent meal I can't afford.
So I ask you please. Where are these jobs you speak of?
What a typical gen-x /ditto-head/ fool. "What jobs?" is right! Unemployment is 10% nationally, 12+% in some states, and 15+% in some metro areas. BRI you must be drinking too much TEA and that drink is poisonious to the soul!
Most of the jobless I know used to have well paying jobs, worked 40+ hours a week had homes and kids in school and college. Now they are jobless, homeless, and hopeless. Families have dissolved, homes foreclosed and the self righteous gen-x HR people and the hiring managers all go pale when a candidate slips through the gatekeepers and actually gets an interview. "Oh my God grey hair he'll ruin our heath plan never mind the group photo at the Xmas party"!
I am in that pool with SAXXIN also. I worked 60 hour/6 day a weeks on salary for 25 years. Went on long term once for a sinus infection that threatened my brain. What did I get? I got laid off as part of a cost cutting measure where the first ones out the door were all over 50 and anyone who ever went on long term! All against the law but no one cares.
I could not get an interview for 10 months and have never had a job offer now after 15 months. I apply to at least 3 jobs a day anywhere with in 100 miles. I have a professionally written resume, have a college degree and several industry certifications. There is nothing out there and now your Republican friends have decided that my home my family and my life not worthty an extention of benefits. No one is creating jobs and in fact they shot down help for small business to create them. ( Maybe afraid that the might grow up to compete with the big boys)
Yes I am hurt, yes I am angry and my advice to you and your kind (delivered face to face I wish) is do not speak ill of others unless you know what you are talking about, lest you but prove your ignorance. This not a game this not a joke this not a cliche
I stopped working 11 years ago and went back to college to change occupations. Eight years of college and a 3.87 GPA and no jobs that would pay squat.
I moved to Thailand and would come back to the US to pick-up short term contract jobs. Now I just stay in Thailand, where for $1,200 a month you can like like a king and NO TAXES on farmers or their land. Planting takes 2 weeks and the harvest takes a week, the remainder of the time is spent with the family and watching the rice grow.
I have never received un-employment or any of the so-called tax-incentives. Now the USA can keep their BS taxes & regulations, I will only come back to start my SS @ 62 next year and sell the last of my investment properties.
Prepare for the future or suffer the consequences. Enjoy the US - Rat Race. Ha! Ha!
Swallow your pride, and take what you can get!! Low paying jobs are better than none! I work as a night time janitor. Yeah the pay and hours suck, but i have food to feed my kids. Everyone has this entitlement problem lately. I am entitled to high pay, and help from the government when i dont have it. I am entitled to give my kids the best of everything, and help if i cant. People survived on a lot less than what we 'need' now.
IK in La Very true but that was before government handouts for Farmers to not grow food. (subsidies)How many welfare recipients are working in the fields? How many of the unemployed? They have no more extended benefits. So field work could provide much needed income. But I really honestly do not see many of our citizens willing to get out there and pick at piece rate.
I keep my horse at a small dairy farm. They are getting no handouts, nobody is "subsidising" them. It costs them $25.00 per day per cow. They are getting .25 a gallon for the milk. joey, I picked at piece rate for quite a few years, and quite enjoyed it. It's hard work, but if you survive the first two weeks, you will be in the best shape you have ever been in. However, in central NY ALL of the farming jobs are taken by immigrants. Do not tell me they are the only people willing to do the job, there are many citizens willing to do the work. The farm I keep Daisy hires school kids, and my husband and I help do hay (brutal work in this heat). The people that have orchards hire immigrants exclusively, they probably pay them far less, and bypass alot of the safety regulations, like porta potties. SOOO,the next time you drink a nice cold glass of cider, remember those apples are the ones picked off the ground. guess what the alternative to no porta potties is?
Actually, I was just thinking why hasn't Obama done something about the heat wave? With us all having to endure his double-dip recession, it would be the least he could do. I noticed he didn't even bother to come out of the White House to attend the DC 4th of July party televised nationally. Oh, I forgot, he doesn't celebrate American holidays because it sends the wrong message to his 3rd world fans.
Or obama's for that matter. It's like saying the salesman at the toyota dealership is at fault for the issue with the gas pedal. Only the simplest of minds can confuse the president/prime minister as the final arbiter of power in any country. I guess those same people believe that the heat talked about in the article is from our SUV's as well. Just as Galileo told everyone that the world was round; the sun is responsible for earth's temperature and the international banks run our country.
Nothing is Bush's fault. It wasn't Bush's fault that a CIA operative got outted; it wasn't his fault that we waged an uneccesary war that will end up costing us perhaps a trillion dollars and getting over 4,000 Americans killed; it wasn't his fault that he appointed an Arabian horse show guy to an important administrative agency, FEMA; it wasn't his fault that he, along with many other of his Republican friends who were so cozy with the oil industry let that industry lean on the MMS (Minerals Management Service) and ignore safety precautions that could help to prevent the disaster in the Gulf; it isn't his fault that his Administration leaned on California to de-regulate the power industry so that his friend Ken Lay could financially rape the residents of that state; it wasn't his fault that his EPA blocked California's pursuing air quality standards higher than the federal EPA (long held to be California's right since the first clean air act was passed back in the sixties).
No, nothing is ever Bush's fault...even though it is plain to see how many of the policies he endorsed led to the problems our society is currently facing.
This is not to say that I would blame Bush for this heat wave. But the sarcasm in which you try to tar progressives who actually do believe in holding Bush responsible for the things he is responsible for...really shows how much many of you hate the idea of politicians and corporations actually being forced to take some responsiblity for the problems created by the ideas they advocate..................................
I've given Bush plenty of credit for the mistakes of his administration, my problem now is the current President is nearing the halfway point of his term and has yet to acknowledge fault for ANYTHING!! Congress is even worse with SOtH Pelosi refusing to acknowledge blame for ANYTHING even though she's set the tone of legislation for NEARLY FOUR YEARS !! Hell I'll be more than happy to blame Bush for this heat wave if Democrats will take responsibility for any of their multiple mistakes !!!
Where's all the Fox cronies? Couple of snow storms and it proves there's no such thing as Global Warming, I wonder how they are going to explain all this heat?
K, some people didn't get the joke the dude was trying to make, but here's a fun thing to consider:
Back when Fox was making all of those jokes about how there was so much snow in the United States that it clearly disproved Global Warming, the Winter Olympics were going on in Vancouver, where they were having to move snow in from mountains and other places because it was too warm.
Dilbert, you need to stop drinking your MSNBC/CNN/PBS kool-aid. Just in case you didn't know, it's going to be so hot tomorrow, it might tie the record for 2001, yes, that's 9 years ago when it was previously this hot. It's all in the jetstream, has nothing to do with the planet "warming" although there's enough hot air on MSNBC/CNN/PBS to melt the polar caps.
Unless there are Asians or Chinese here, you won't get much scientific background from people from America. That especially applies to those with right leaning tendencies.Especially right leaning politicians.
One of the cruel jokes of life is that the smart people are in science and the idiots control our lives.
Me, I was smart back when, so I went into science. Biochem. to be exact.
Now you have people who have run for the theoretically second highest office that need someone to write their books for them.
actually, I remember from my childhood that even temperatures of 90 degrees were somewhat rare, and on the east coast 100 degrees was nearly implausible.
We also regularly had snowstorms like the one in February. Now anything above 6 inches is rare as hell.
And I'm less than 30. So........ Either my memory is faulty as hell, or global warming isn't so much of a myth after all...
I think one's perspective plays into all this. As a twenty year resident here in Las Vegas, I marvel at the lower temp's most agree we've been seeing the last decade. Every year, I personally thought of the 4th of July as the mid point for the "Hot" season, understanding that it's not uncommon to see very hot days starting in April and often very hot days in May & June. This decade has been mostly mild up until the 4th. Today it was only 102....and this is the 5th of July. 102 in July here is on the low end of the spectrum for this city (And very comfortable considering we have very low humidity). So while I have seen other cities reach some abnormal temp's, Cities like Las Vegas have also seen abnormal temp's the other way. You would think that if the east was hotter than normal, we should also be even hotter than normal based on the Global warming theory.
well dilbert, if you had a brain you would know that there is a huge ball of gases and radiation in the sky called the sun. you may know of it. but if you would like to debate the speudo science knock yourself out. global warming is a natural occurence just as stupid is a natural occurence in humans. follow that pied piper.
I live in Western North Carolina. Speak to any old-timer here and they'll tell you tales of how they all loved to use their sleds in the winter time. These days, even with last winter's snows, there just aren't any sled days. Not enough snow. It's a rare occurrence. I'm no geezer, but I remember when summers in South Florida were not nearly as hot as now. But no, there's no climate change. Keep believing that when you end up owning waterfront property in Colorado.
Hide your head in the sand, criticize, and join the Party of No No No No I Really Mean No! (sound of childish foot stomping) In much of Europe, utility companies are installing solar panels on rooftops, rather than build more coal-powered, filth-belching power plants. We could take some lessons from the Europeans.
In case you didn't know! The exaust comming out of a power plant has to be 99.9+% clean to meet environmental standards, so that condensation is hot air meeting cool air. Not the filth and soot you have been told it is. Go figure that one!
Make fun of Dilbert all you want, but his post brings up a good point.
Everyone's answer to why the heat wave is occurring is "it's summer, the sun, it's hot!"
Yet when we had early snowstorms at the end of last year, there was an army of Fox News talking heads and their followers on this vine spouting how the snow disproves any and everything related to global warming. I even got made fun of for literally posting "It's winter, it snows in winter."
If snow disproves global warming, then heatwaves prove it! Note, I think that neither weather pattern in and of themselves prove squat related to global warming, but some consistency from the squakers on this vine would be nice..
Global warming theory is not as simple as some of the minds posting here. Weather patterns shift constantly. It is the weird stuff that points to it. Like melting ice caps a rise in sea level. Stuff like that. Not oh it is summer so yeah it is hot.
It is things like Islands disappearing due to the rise in sea level. I for one think that global warming is not man made. That it is a normal cycle for the earth. We have had ice ages and the total opposite of that would be Heat ages. Or above normal heat cycles. We tend to forget that the earth is a living planet and is constantly growing and changing.
We may some day not be able to sustain our own lives and go extinct like the dinosaur's.
Lol, but Joey, remember, they called it "Global Warming" first, which was really meant to apply specifically to the poles, but then as we started to realize the rest of the possible impact, we started calling it "Climate Change". But they called it global warming first, so it's gotta mean that everything is always getting warmer all the time, all year long. Because it's too confusing if you change your mind based on new information. It's gotta be the same thing, all the time, always.
In much of Europe, utility companies are installing solar panels on rooftops, rather than build more coal-powered, filth-belching power plants. We could take some lessons from the Europeans.
Yeah, but we usually don't. We always think we know better than everyone else because, well, it just seems to be part of the "American mindset."
The Europeans seem to be more progressive than we are. That's not surprising, I guess, given that part of the "conservative mindset" seems to be the avoidance of change when it comes to the so-called "tried and true" way of doing things. Trouble is, when circumstances change, many times the "tried and true" no longer works.
We all seem to be getting away from the big question here. The bottom line is this question...
Do methane and CO2 trap heat in? That is the essence of the claim of "The Greenhouse Effect", purported to be the cause of "global warming" aka "climate change". We can point to a snow storm in February and say it disproves climate change, or heat waves in July and August and say that they prove the theory...all we want.
What does CO2 actually do? What does methane actually do? If you want to look at what those two gasses can actually do...look at what astronomers say that the temperatures are on some of the other planets in our solar system. What is the average temperature in the sun on Mars? Out of the sun on Mars? What is the average temperature on Venus? Though Venus is closer to the sun than earth, is it's average temperature in proportion to its distance compared to our distance? Or is it exponentially hotter? Without addressing these questions, we cannot begin to have any kind of real picture about whether or not CO2 and methane are in fact, green house gasses; nor can we answer whether or not human activity has an impact on the climate. These are the key questions, but here are some other once those have been honestly addressed....
-Great Britain was once covered in forests. What was the impact of their disappearance? How much carbon was released into the atmosphere when these forests were burned hundreds of years ago? What does the impact of not having them to scrub the atmosphere of CO2 now have? It is a well-known scientific fact that grasses and crops take in less CO2 than do trees.
-We humans are burning down the rainforests with reckless abandon. How much CO2 do we add to the atmosphere by doing so? How many potential CO2 scrubbers are we eliminating by doing this? When the industrial revolution started a few hundred years ago, at least we had more acreage of rainforest to scrub some of the CO2 released by that burning of coal. We have much less now.
More heat leads to more rain. Have average rain levels around the world increased over the last thousand years, few hundred years, few decades, few years?
What caused the "Little Ice Age" a little over a thousand years ago? I believe it was lack of solar activity, but I am not sure. Have we had anything like the circumstances that created it more recently which did not create those frozen conditions? If yes...why didn't it? Could rising greenhouse gas levels have masked such a change in the sun's conditions?
These are the questions we need to ask ourselves. I am done saying, and listening to, the arguments on both sides that blizzards in February disprove global warming...and that heat waves in July and August prove it. Those kind of arguments are nothing more than anecdotes. Although...with all the argument put out by some fossil fuel advocates that February blizzards meant that global warming was a "hoax"...I am tempted to tout the heat wave as proof that global warming is real. Using their own logic against them, so-to-speak. But I will not. I will say that...in the Chicago Metropolitan area there were flood warnings on Christmas...FLOOD WARNINGS AT CHRISTMAS! That means that the ice was melting in December around here.
Now, I have seen it all around here. In 1994, I nearly got frostbite due to a cold-snap in the middle of February that saw temperature plummet to -20 degrees. In 1997, it didn't snow at all in the Chicago-Metro area...and I don't think that it dropped below 45 degrees all winter. I spent that summer in Dallas and thought I was going to die as the temperature was 105 to 110 every day. Even back home, here in Chicago, people were dying as temperatures hovered around the 90s all summer. Chicago was not used to that many days with temps near 100. The winter of 2008-2009 was brutally cold here. Average temperatures hovered around -5 degrees when I would go into work at 6 AM. And last summer was cool here. It rarely ever reached much warmer than 75 (interesting little footnote to all the people who previously said, "Heat waves happen every summer at about this time"). But Mother Nature is making up for the lack of heat she sent our way last year. We have already had far more days reach 90 this year...than we did last year. It seems to come in cycles of about two year above average summers and below average winters, then two year below average summers and above average winters in the Chicago-area. But even then, I still feel like...overall...it has been getting warmer since my youth in the late seventies and throughout the eighties. And when I hear, during that portion of the cycle with the cooler summers, that Alaska and Canada are experiencing warmer than usual summers...I can't help but feel that there is a trend to a warmer climate, albeit moving at a very slow pace..................................
But that last paragraph is merely my anecdotal evidence. It is meaningless. The path to the truth about global warming lies in the questions I posed up top..............................
uhhh, quit whining about "humidity, blah blah blah"
Phoenix has heat waves with weeks of 115 degree temps, Houston has weeks of 100 degrees and 100% humidity, now the East coast gets it and a bunch of babies think its news?
I am still wondering where all the Teabaggers and Fauxnewsers are that will claim this "weather" proves global warming just like they claimed snow in winter disproved it???
I am still wondering where all the Teabaggers and Fauxnewsers are that will claim this "weather" proves global warming just like they claimed snow in winter disproved it???
^this, i'm waiting too.
I think we'll be waiting for a long time, not that I think the heatwaves prove global warming either. But is it too much to ask for some consistency from Fox and the gang? Oh wait, nevermind, it is DEFINITELY too much to ask for consistency from Fox...
Houston has weeks of 100 degrees and 100% humidity,
Really? So you would be swimming through the air right?
uhhh, quit whining about "humidity, blah blah blah"
Humidity makes a great deal of difference in what the air temperature feels like, that is why there is such a thing as a heat index. You take a 95 degree day and add 90% humidity and suddenly that 95 degree day feels like 115. As for Houston having 100 degrees with humidity, they are 1000 miles closer to the equator than New Jersey is, it is going to be a lot hotter there. People in northern regions are going to complain about this heat, just like those in Arizona and Texas would complain about it getting down to 30 degrees in the winter. Those in northern climates, like MN and ND laugh at you then, just like you are laughing at the East Coast for complaining about the heat. It is all a matter of perspective.
Yesterday it was 110 with 23% humidity. I'm not sure if that sounds fun to you, but that's a good day in monsoon season for Phoenix. Humididy gets crazy sometimes.
23% humidity? That is nothing, it doesn't even get that low here in the winter, right now MN is sitting at 54% and that is low. Yesterday it was closer to 80%, as soon as you walked outside it felt like you were in a shower.
Oh puhleeze...back in my day we had humidity of 200% and we had to walk to school in it, uphill, both there and back, with no shoes! Luckily, we only had dirt roads so we didn't have to worry about hot pavement.
Houston has weeks of 100 degrees and 100% humidity,
Really? So you would be swimming through the air right
When I was young I used to think exactly the same thing when we visited my Grandparents in Florida. 100% Humidity? Shouldn't we be swimming?
Well... no. Humidity is a calculation based upon the ambient temperature, barometric pressure and water vapor content of the air, also known as vapor pressure. A related value is the dewpoint, which is similar to reaching 100% percent humidity during the cool early morning, so water vapor condenses out to form dew.
At 100% percent humidity, given just a tiny downward bump in air pressure, the moisture content in the air is very likely to begin to condense into clouds, rapidly forming squalls and thundershowers and falling to the ground as... rain.
Pretty chilly here in LA, plus light rain last night. Usually the heat descends like a curtain right after the 4th of July, but not this year (yet).
I have family in New Mexico who were suffering through a heat wave a few weeks ago, when at the same time the year previous they still had snow on the ground.
Not that this necessarily means anything, other than the weather seems to be getting freakier as time goes on.
Yeah...leave it to the east coast to turn this into some kind of poltical debate/tree hugging convention. Wow it's a hundred degrees maybe if they actually caught up with the rest of the world and used air conditioning we wouldn't hear so much bitching and complaining about the heat...half the country has dealt with temps like this for years...nothing new...
Wow it's a hundred degrees maybe if they actually caught up with the rest of the world and used air conditioning we wouldn't hear so much @!$%#ing and complaining about the heat.
/jawdrop
do you really think the "rest of the world" uses AC more than the East Coast and America in general. There is probably no other place on earth that uses more AC in the summertime than the Northeast except maybe Vegas...
What a bunch of airhead moron comments, except the Phoenix & Palm Springs comments. It's summer, stupids. Happens every year everywhere, sooner or later. Get a grip, people. Sheesh.
Unemployment at 10% or higher in some areas, higher taxes, socialized healthcare, nationalization of banking, and housing morgage institutions, obama's refusal to enforce the immigration laws already in the books and secure the borders, his refusal to allow drilling in ANWAR so that we, the people, can find decent jobs and end our dependency on middle eastern oil, etc....BO and the dems in congress are shamelessly turning this country into a banana republic. The heat wave? that should be the least of our worries. And those who whine about the republicans getting in the way of extended unemployment benefits need to wake up and put the blame where it belongs, with the incompetent "community organizer" they put in the WH.
Yep, he's straightening things out. Certainly straightened me out on a few things like:I thought I lived in a free country-NOT ANY MORE I thought I was on equal footing with all other Americans-NOT ANY MORE-Special interest groups are much more valuable. I thought I could retire on my IRA and SS-NOT ANY MORE. I thought I could take care of my own healthcare and use my own doctors and hospitals-NOT ANY MORE. I thought I was free to read my Bible and pray as I saw fit-NOT ANY MORE. I thought I could own a gun to protect myself and my family from criminals-NOT ANY MORE. I thought what I earned, after reasonable taxes, was mine-NOT ANY MORE. I thought I was free to choose my own friends and associates-NOT ANY MORE. I thought I could raise my children as I saw fit-NOT ANY MORE. Those things were only possible under that Republican "mess".
Yes, Obama changed things all right...no jobs, retirement plans gone, government takes over al lindustry, and by the way, how cam we never see his birth certificate and not only are we supportimg all the Obamas in the White House we are also supporting his mother in law...
How did a thread about an East coast heat wave turn into a yet another off-topic political debate? Sheesh. Time to stop tracking another thread, I guess. There's little to nothing of on-topic commentary to read here.
Just to put the facts out there since there is a debate about how long the Republicans actually led this country. I heard 8 and 12. The real answer is 6. They had both the White House and both houses of Congresses from 2000 until 2006. If that doesn't mean that they weren't running things...then i would like to know who the hell was....so here are the facts,
1964-1968, Democratic President, Democratic Congress
1969-1976, Republican President(s)(though neither of them would be good enough for the wingnuts who have taken over the Republican Party, now), Democratic Congress
1977-1980, Democratic President, Democratic Congress
1981-1992, Republican President, Democratic Congress
1993-1994, Democratic President, Republican Congress
1995-2000, Democratic President(though he really governed to the center), Republican Congress
2001-2006, Republican President, Republican Congress (when the wingnuts in that party took over and forever tarnished the Republican brand)
2007-2008, Republican President, Democratic Congress
2009-current, Democratic President, Democratic Congress
I just thought I would run through the numbers, here...since there seems to be some confusion as to who actually had all the reins between 2000 and 2006...............
Dan-831740 --- 13.12 was a lengthy, general political government analysis. Could you please tell me what your political list had to do with the current July, 2010 East coast heat? Are you blaming political parties for causing this blip in the weather? Why would you blame a political party of 2000-2006 for the weather of 2010?
FYI, it's only the media that's hysterical about the heat. Those of us who live on the East coast understand that summer weather conditions are hot and humid.
Please consider separating politics and weather. They are not intertwined.
obama is straightening out the mess 8 yrs of republicans ru(i)nning this country. the NO party!!!
Matt-343495
shark-1964364: Get a clue. Republicans weren't running this country for 8 years
GMOsucks
That is right they were running it for 12 years....
I put that out there...because in unrelated conversations with people (in the real world, not here on message boards) I have had people tell me that the Democrats had a majority in both houses of Congress in 2003 and that more Democrats voted for the war than Republicans, when we declared war on Iraq and that I should blame the Dems if I disagreed with the war. So I put that out there so that...if they were all going to argue about whether or not the Republicans had control and how long they had control...that they would at least have the facts. You weren't one of the people having that discussion, NJ, so there was really no need for you to have either read my post...or commented on it.
I didn't start throwing politician's names around; other people did. So before you sit there and lecture me about straying away from the topic, when I am merely puting some information out there for people who have already strayed away from the topic at hand...perhaps you should not read what was not intended for you...............
Dan, your post 13.12 did not refer to anyone in particular, so how was I to know you were responding to specific people?
"You weren't one of the people having that discussion, NJ, so there was really no need for you to have either read my post...or commented on it."
"So before you sit there and lecture me about straying away from the topic, when I am merely puting some information out there for people who have already strayed away from the topic at hand...perhaps you should not read what was not intended for you..............."
Dan, not only are you off-topic, but you're quite nasty and rude. You are the lecturer, not I. Do you talk like that to your family members? If you do, I feel sorry for them. Or, since you can hide behind anonymity, you feel free to be rude?
NJ...just reciprocating your rudeness towards me. I found your post to be a little sarcastic. If it was not intended that way...and I misinterpreted it, sorry for the confusion. And perhaps I should have addressed the people I was intending it for.....
Big deal, it's going to be hot for 4 whole days............nothing unusual about it..........I was beginning to think we were in for an unusually cool summer since this is the first week it's been the least little bit hot!
It is not Bush's fault, it is mans fault for been so smart yet so stupid! We all know what causes it. we just can't give up the things that man has invented to speed up "global warming". Part of it is nature made, but majority is man made pollutants an chemicals in industry.
Back when I was younger they were screaming that we were soon going to be in a new ice age. It never happened, so they cooked up global warming. Say something long enough, manipulate data and the liberals will buy it.
Right you are, Romilio! A mosquito lands on the nose of a sleeping man, and suddenly there's a slew of angry political commentary. The ignorance here is so thick you could slice it with a machete. But it's better to let them vent here than take to the streets. I wonder what a great humorist like Mark Twain or Will Rogers would say at the nasty state of affairs. There's an old saying: WHAT PETER SAYS ABOUT PAUL SAYS MORE ABOUT PETER THAN IT DOES ABOUT PAUL.
There you go, a stroke of genius. It is all a "liberal conspiracy". The belief that an ice age was dawning in your youth...the belief in global warming now. Course...you never can explain any kind of motivation for coming up with these "hoaxes" you accuse them of inventing. What is the motivation for them to lie about these kind of things...especially when the old theories are so contradictory to the new. Your post makes no sense...and is just plain laughable..................................
I'm in La Quinta CA (about 20 minutes from Palm Springs and a 4 hr drive to Vegas or Phoenix) our high today was 101, 9 degrees LOWER than the average. We're used to the heat. I feel sorry for the people back east who aren't used to it, plus all the humidity they get in the summertime there. Hope no one dies because they don't have air conditioners or cooling stations.
Sheila, The real global warming nuts are the ones who keep lining Al Gore's pockets with more green. This weather is normal and will be until this world ends or the Global Warming nuts figure out how to change it to their liking. Ever read the story about chicken little?
Actually the real GW nuts are the deniers that line Big oil and coals pockets with Billions and Billions of dollars. Funny righties only follow the money when it is a few million in research grants, but never follow the money when it is a few billions in oil propaganda...hypocrisy or stupidity?
And I don't know what you farm (probably Bull Sh!t) but the real farmers and ranchers I deal with don't deny their observations, they can't, they have to deal with it everyday. Farmers are usually famous for being practical.
What do the deniers use for proof? Rush Limbaugh's opinion of Al Gore? Global warming exists, not because Al Gore says so, but because scientists have shown the steady rise in global temperatures since the onset of the industrial revolution. Of course, there are those who think scientists are lying, but that's what the tobacco advocates said 50-60 years ago, before they got sick and died.
GMOsucks, You must deal with modern young farmers who depend on a computer to tell them how to farm! I grew up on my Grand Father's Farm, I'm in my 60's now! My grandpa farmed until he died at 83. He knew more about the weather and farming than any of these modern computer dependent Farmers ever will. Grandpa would have loved to have spreader full of B.S. like you to fertilize our fields with!
The only global warming nuts are those who deny it, and they only come out in winter.
^this. Compared to the thread we saw here last winter the "global warming" proponents are being rather quiet imo.
Personally, I believe in global warming (although the jury is out on how much of it is man-made), but I'm not dumb enough to try and blame every heat wave PROVES global warming.
That kind of hyperbole is reserved for glenn beck and Fox News during the wintertime...
My grandpa farmed until he died at 83. He knew more about the weather and farming than any of these modern computer dependent Farmers ever will.
not to be mean to your grandfather, i'm sure he was a hell of a farmer, but you give science and computer modeling far to little credit in your rant. I'll take the National Weather Service doppler radar tracking and super-computer transport simulations over the farmer's almanac everyday of the week and twice on sundays...
The article rightfully states that one heat wave or cold snap cannot say anything about trends. To show anthropogenic global warming you need two things - an observed trend, and a known mechanism to link it to a cause. We have both.
Meanwhile we are freezing here in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle). Last year we had temps above 90 at this time. This year we are still waiting for the temps to get above 70. Send some of that sun and hundred degree weather this way!
--Nationalization of banking was courtesy of Shrub & the Repubs. That happened in 2008 'member?I think it was their final favor to the people who own them but what do I know?
--Out healthcare is not anywhere near socialized as it should be: all of those 1st world countries with more socialized healthcare? Well they are healthier than we are. 'Splain that one Jen.
-- ANWR (not ANWAR...learn to anacronymize please) would provide about 2 years worth of oil and might not even get into this country. It goes to the highest bidder 'cuz the government doesn't control it once the oil parasites pump it. The oil parasites would never let their puppets stand in the way of profit. And a tiny dink in the worldwide oil supply ain't gonna do sqaut for the mess created in the 2001-2009 years.
So, unsurprisingly, given your apparent lack of knowledge, you have misplaced the blame and just joined the echo chamber. Step back, take a deep breath, think, and try again.
I live in El Centro, CA right next to the mexican border and it is 100+ degrees everyday during the summer here. Just the other day I went running in 113 degree weather. So if they want to do stories on extreme heat in the United States, The Imperial Valley should be at the very top of the list.
Word, I get tired of always hearing about record temps of around 100. My family and I were stationed over in VA for a few years and the temp was not as bad as they make it to be. The dessert areas are by far worse off. Now Im in Iraq where for the last month it has been 120 and higher and our lows around the low 80s. We loose power constantly cause of overheating. Americans need to stop whimpering about how bad it is just for them locally, and remember that there are others out here who have it worse.
I am reading a book about Abraham Lincoln and the civil war and it commented at differant times during the civil war temperatures reached 100 in Maryland and Pa. and Washington so this is nothing unusual and they didn't have cars back then. Cars were not nvented yet.Nature does this and thank God it does because the best crops grow when it is hot and muggy. This green house efect is a wonderful blessing Hope we have big juicey tomatoes this year last year it just didnt get hot and humid enough.
Oh...I didn't realize that cars were the only contributor to greenhouse gasses. I always thought burning coal actually released more than oil because coal has a higher carbon content. And I thought the industrial revolution began BEFORE the advent of the automobile, meaning that we have been releasing CO2 into the atmosphere since at least 100 years before Lincoln's time. I also thought burning all the trees in the island of Great Britain would add millions of tons of carbon to the atmosphere 500-1000 years before Lincoln's time. Thanks for the history lesson, shawn...I have been such a fool all these years. I never realized that all human history began in the 1860s. Thanks for puting me straight...........lol
PS: By the time these posting get to "POST PAGE # 5 on NEWSVINE" this whole issue will be turned around to BUSH vs. OBAMA, bigots + racists making inane postings, Republican vs. Democrats vs. Independents vs. Tea Bagger's vs. Liberals vs. Socialist's vs. EVERYONE AGAINST EVERYONE!
people prefer heat wave than arctic blast anytime.
Amazing how extreme weather only makes the national news when it occurs on the east coast.
^this
HELLOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's July. It's supposed to be hot. I live in the midwest and I remember my whole life having the hottest weather in July and August.
The media seems to think that the temperatures should always be the average, a nice comfortable 72 degrees.
Mikey - I have family in Fresno, and I've visited them in August. My rental car's steering wheel was so hot that I could barely hold it. What we're experiencing here on the East coast is nothing ... a summer "blip" ..... but the media is portraying this as if we're all hysterical.
We're not!

JustMeBub
Spoken as a true Liberal Progressive.
Just me Bub
@ 3rdpartyadvocate
If the guy in the photo is running in DC on a day with a heat advisory, he deseves to be suffering. Use some common sense!
NJ
That's not a coincidence.
Richard Willis, 52, was one of a few dozen homeless men in Franklin Square, a small park in downtown Washington." "I've been through many summers. I'm experienced."
What the hell is wrong with you Richard, get a damn job doing anything, you loser.
What job?
There are jobs?
I wish I knew where there were jobs.
Enlighten us on where these jobs are.
Ha! Ha!
Thailand, the wonderful dry, cool summers. Not to mention all the child sex trade businesses. Yes, a veritable wonderland for an uber-liberal.
You mean move to China?
gbd001 - huh? wonderland for an "uber-liberal"?
Do you even know what that means?
Get. An. Education.
It is sad to hear of these kinds of troubles afflicting some families in America. Streamlining costs is never without it's victims.
And where in today's economy might he find a job????
An outdoor adventure company.
All of this is true. However, remember that back when "people survived on a lot less . . ." there was a booming farm economy in north america.
I wonder when the first idiot will post that it's Bush's fault?
It's Bush's fault!! :)
You just did.
Duh It was you!
Bush did it...he contacted God and said..."If I'm innocent then the world will freeze"
Everything is Bush's fault! No getting away from it.
Indeed...even the black plague and the comet/asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.
post of the day so far :)
Yeah, Bush caused it; but Obama could end it.... by giving a speech!
Politicians are full of hot air and we're all suffering from all those talking heads who know all the answers.
It's called summertime, and all this heat is coming from the sun.
It's July, it's summer, it's hot! I'm so surprised!
K, some people didn't get the joke the dude was trying to make, but here's a fun thing to consider:
Back when Fox was making all of those jokes about how there was so much snow in the United States that it clearly disproved Global Warming, the Winter Olympics were going on in Vancouver, where they were having to move snow in from mountains and other places because it was too warm.
stupid is as stupid does!
Desperate
Wrong. This round of hot air is coming from Joe Biden opening his mouth, to be followed by even hotter air from oblamer.
LOL. I remember those comments last summer.
Sad and strange days indeed.
Heat comes from the sun? No way!
Dilbert-424069: Ahh you liberals... always trying to take a stab at fox and the right and fail at doing it every single time.
FYI kid, temps this high have been happening for a very very long time.
gary-340950: My statement in this post applies to you too. If you were smart you wouldn't have said what you said.
And you went into biochem... riiiiight
actually, I remember from my childhood that even temperatures of 90 degrees were somewhat rare, and on the east coast 100 degrees was nearly implausible.
We also regularly had snowstorms like the one in February. Now anything above 6 inches is rare as hell.
And I'm less than 30. So........ Either my memory is faulty as hell, or global warming isn't so much of a myth after all...
Fish :
DesperateStateofAffairs - the earthquake in Chile, in the past few months, pushed the earth off its axis by 3 degrees! Is that also the sun?
OK - The Sun = Summer = Hot = HUMIDITY (so far yov've got it) = HAZE (NOW YOU LOST ME!)
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FACTS, FACTS, FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't everyone please STAY ON TOPIC with FACTS to support their post?
Hey Hank,
In case you didn't know!
Hank E:
Yeah, but we usually don't. We always think we know better than everyone else because, well, it just seems to be part of the "American mindset."
The Europeans seem to be more progressive than we are. That's not surprising, I guess, given that part of the "conservative mindset" seems to be the avoidance of change when it comes to the so-called "tried and true" way of doing things. Trouble is, when circumstances change, many times the "tried and true" no longer works.
FOX did it. This heat is just a programming error.
It's the East Coast,it's summer,it's hot. Explanation enough,Dilbert (and I prefer the BBC over any U.S. news outlet!)??
Fred - Spot on the East Coast/summer/hot .... and the same about BBC.
oooo over 100 degrees in some places.. well welcome to PHOENIX.. lol
At least that is a dry heat. Try oppressive humidity on top of it and then you'll know the real meaning of 'heat'.
uhhh, quit whining about "humidity, blah blah blah"
Phoenix has heat waves with weeks of 115 degree temps, Houston has weeks of 100 degrees and 100% humidity, now the East coast gets it and a bunch of babies think its news?
I am still wondering where all the Teabaggers and Fauxnewsers are that will claim this "weather" proves global warming just like they claimed snow in winter disproved it???
^this, i'm waiting too.
I think we'll be waiting for a long time, not that I think the heatwaves prove global warming either. But is it too much to ask for some consistency from Fox and the gang? Oh wait, nevermind, it is DEFINITELY too much to ask for consistency from Fox...
Really? So you would be swimming through the air right?
GMO - I will whine if I damn well please.
Greg, that's some funny s**t!
Nate,
When I was young I used to think exactly the same thing when we visited my Grandparents in Florida.
At 100% percent humidity, given just a tiny downward bump in air pressure, the moisture content in the air is very likely to begin to condense into clouds, rapidly forming squalls and thundershowers and falling to the ground as... rain.
Palm springs 110. Quite normal in the summertime.
Andthey al llive in air condidtined mansions.
74 degrees in san diego east county yesterday. MUCH cooler than normal for july.
Pretty chilly here in LA, plus light rain last night. Usually the heat descends like a curtain right after the 4th of July, but not this year (yet).
I have family in New Mexico who were suffering through a heat wave a few weeks ago, when at the same time the year previous they still had snow on the ground.
Not that this necessarily means anything, other than the weather seems to be getting freakier as time goes on.
uvuvuv:
Santee
so what
Yeah...leave it to the east coast to turn this into some kind of poltical debate/tree hugging convention. Wow it's a hundred degrees maybe if they actually caught up with the rest of the world and used air conditioning we wouldn't hear so much bitching and complaining about the heat...half the country has dealt with temps like this for years...nothing new...
/jawdrop
do you really think the "rest of the world" uses AC more than the East Coast and America in general. There is probably no other place on earth that uses more AC in the summertime than the Northeast except maybe Vegas...
Its summer. Sometimes that big yellow thing in the sky makes it hot
No, it's the Muslims and the illegal immigrants fault...
Don't forget the gays, blacks, libs and pro-choicers. /sarc
Don't forget Obamas fault too...
Are we missing anyone, here?
Are we missing anyone, here? Yes, the main person responsible for this is Mother Nature!!!
It's Israel's fault.
I think that this 2010 heat wave was a nefarious plot devised by Churchill, Stalin, and FDR at Yalta in 1945.
Better yet, does anyone know if Nostradamus prophesied this particular July, 2010 "mini-heat wave"?
How ridiculous do we want to be?
You forgot cow farts.
What a bunch of airhead moron comments, except the Phoenix & Palm Springs comments.
It's summer, stupids. Happens every year everywhere, sooner or later.
Get a grip, people. Sheesh.
Just in case you were wondering, those morons are called "liberals".....
And in the winter they're called Republicans.
just in the winter?
Unemployment at 10% or higher in some areas, higher taxes, socialized healthcare, nationalization of banking, and housing morgage institutions, obama's refusal to enforce the immigration laws already in the books and secure the borders, his refusal to allow drilling in ANWAR so that we, the people, can find decent jobs and end our dependency on middle eastern oil, etc....BO and the dems in congress are shamelessly turning this country into a banana republic. The heat wave? that should be the least of our worries. And those who whine about the republicans getting in the way of extended unemployment benefits need to wake up and put the blame where it belongs, with the incompetent "community organizer" they put in the WH.
obama is straightening out the mess 8 yrs of republicans ru(i)nning this country. the NO party!!!
Obama couldn't organize a circle j*** his cronies do all the work
Shark It is the party of KNOW!!!
shark-1964364: Get a clue. Republicans weren't running this country for 8 years.
That is right they were running it for 12 years....
How did a thread about an East coast heat wave turn into a yet another off-topic political debate? Sheesh. Time to stop tracking another thread, I guess. There's little to nothing of on-topic commentary to read here.
Well, N.J., football season is almost here! That's a great subject to argue about!
Good one, V. Bevis - I'm not a football fan, but I'm sure that whatever happens during the season will be either Bush's or Obama's faults as well. :-)
Its Palins she brainwashed Bush and really did a number on Mccain.

I was responding to:
shark-1964364,
obama is straightening out the mess 8 yrs of republicans ru(i)nning this country. the NO party!!!
Matt-343495
shark-1964364: Get a clue.
Peace out,
Dan
you are an idiot. no doubt about it.
Big deal, it's going to be hot for 4 whole days............nothing unusual about it..........I was beginning to think we were in for an unusually cool summer since this is the first week it's been the least little bit hot!
How in the heck can you have a heat wave in July? The weather has gone completely crazy! Let's get Obama to "kick it's azz" ;-)
Or we could just complain that Obamas response wasn't good enough and we should bring in some foreign air conditioners...
We already do bring in foreign Air conditioners they are Called Samsung. They work good though dammit.
One thing to cure us of this damnble heat!
NUCLEAR WINTER!
It is not Bush's fault, it is mans fault for been so smart yet so stupid! We all know what causes it. we just can't give up the things that man has invented to speed up "global warming". Part of it is nature made, but majority is man made pollutants an chemicals in industry.
nature causes it tree hugger!
Vernon-534619: Global warming isn't real.
Back when I was younger they were screaming that we were soon going to be in a new ice age. It never happened, so they cooked up global warming. Say something long enough, manipulate data and the liberals will buy it.
It is sad or funny to watch so much stupidity in one page.
@ Matt-343495
There you go, a stroke of genius. It is all a "liberal conspiracy". The belief that an ice age was dawning in your youth...the belief in global warming now. Course...you never can explain any kind of motivation for coming up with these "hoaxes" you accuse them of inventing. What is the motivation for them to lie about these kind of things...especially when the old theories are so contradictory to the new. Your post makes no sense...and is just plain laughable..................................
can we please get some of that global warming in e. wa.? It is in the 70's here and I want to jump in my pool.
Thanks Jenn! We understand when you go "ga-ga" over 20 inches of snow. We're STILL not sure if Buffalo is there or not! lol
Gunny Coop got it. The first one that brought it up is my guess.
The meteorologists have already stated that this is normal.
When will the global warming nuts come out?
The only global warming nuts are those who deny it, and they only come out in winter.
^this. Compared to the thread we saw here last winter the "global warming" proponents are being rather quiet imo.
Personally, I believe in global warming (although the jury is out on how much of it is man-made), but I'm not dumb enough to try and blame every heat wave PROVES global warming.
That kind of hyperbole is reserved for glenn beck and Fox News during the wintertime...
not to be mean to your grandfather, i'm sure he was a hell of a farmer, but you give science and computer modeling far to little credit in your rant. I'll take the National Weather Service doppler radar tracking and super-computer transport simulations over the farmer's almanac everyday of the week and twice on sundays...
For those who somehow aren't making the distinction:
A meteorologist is an expert on weather.
A climatologist is an expert on climate.
Climate and weather are two different things.
The article rightfully states that one heat wave or cold snap cannot say anything about trends. To show anthropogenic global warming you need two things - an observed trend, and a known mechanism to link it to a cause. We have both.
I wonder when the first idiot will post it's Obama's fault?
You're the first one to post it, so take #1.
I would say it's Obama's fault, but I know he can't control the weather. That's determined by a higher power than the (joke) Obama.
Meanwhile we are freezing here in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle). Last year we had temps above 90 at this time. This year we are still waiting for the temps to get above 70. Send some of that sun and hundred degree weather this way!
Will be happy to trade, anytime! A box of hot air is on the way! Open carefully.
Sorry Jen, you got it all wrong.
Wish I could vote this one up again. What was she thinking?
Have you no consciences? STOP THE COOL-AID
