Ricky, keep the faith, the love and the encouragement! My daughter just enlisted in Air Force and is leaving a wonderful young man because she feels the call to serve her country. May he also get encouragement from your long time away from your love. Prayers are with you.
Congratulations. Outstanding act of bravery under fire. One example that a female can perform in a combat environment. former Marine, Coast Guard & Army veteran
Great story has very low publicity, also should clarify I'am assuming that she was 19 at the time of the act, being 19 now and and not back then would put her at 16. The clarification was off
Great Job! My 21 year old daughter is going to Lackland to do Basic and then on to Tech School to train as a Medic. Your story will be an inspiration to her.
Even Though I served three years in the Army, I never was in combat, but I have been told that a wounded warrior didn't care the color of a corpsman skin, and I believe that they would add the corpsman gender.
I also served in combat and know that ALL actions big or small lead no where, the same lives saved one day end the next. I'am proud to see another soldier helping another soldier, but do not care if it was a woman or man. She is a soldier first then a woman. I hope that the soldier gets the respect that the soldier deserves. I was a 11B10P and if a woman wants to put her self on the line next to me.............good thats another weapon pointed towards the enemy. Bullets do not dicrimanate and I wish this country would stop seeing black and white, woman or man. We live,We die and thats all. I say congrats and thankyou for your service. But never let the civies get to you, you did your job and did it well thats what is important.
So she get's a silver star for doing what grunts do on a daily basis? I can guarantee you she didn't move one of those men because she was physically unable to, this is only being awarded because that panel said women should serve in combat arms. I hope I never live to see the day that is implemented.
It's about time that women in the military received their due. As a senior citizen male vet , unlike the idiot redneck disGRUNTied-2961780,I beleive that women will and should be full military citizens.
If you are laying along side a road holding your guts in your hands and screaming because it hurts, Does it really matter if the Medic is female or male?
Bravo Zulu, Spc. Brown! Thank you for serving our Country and you're selfless heroism is a tribute and inspiration to all of us. Why isn't this story on the major networks? God bless and keep you from harms way.
Being a journalist who's "beat" is a community college's veterans service center, not only am I heartened by the increase of young women advancing in the military and in careers beyond. Also, I am thoroughly impressed that almost all the responses above contained encouragement from military MEN. Way to go, Spc. Brown, and the gentlemen that respect her selflessness in the face of life and death.
we are getting marry when she gets home we have been on line over a year

When did medics start carrying weapons?

Mike, medics started carrying weapons when insurgents started killing them.
