I believe the question is more related to the fact that if he raped 4 girls at the age of 90 how many did he rape at a younger age. This is absolutely disgusting. I remember when i lived in London watching a documentary on the BBC on pedophiles and many of them were old men. It made me sick .

That isn't really true, now is it Wilberta? There are many ways to sexually assault someone that doesn't involve penetration with one's own genitalia. These people are sick, and just because their equipment doesn't function doesn't mean that the desire or the excitement of the offense are absent. Little Sure Shot: I wondered that too. Wouldn't his diabetes, age & high B/P cause arteriosclerosis AND atherosis to be much worse, hence making it difficult for him to get an erection? Molestation, or any sexual abuse, is all about power and nothing about sex. Sex is only used as a tool to injure or damage. It took me many years of therapy to understand and finally accept this. You can do anything to the male sex organs and he can still find a way to sexully abuse his victim. He doesn't need a penis. He only needs his mind, because that is where it all starts.

Back in the mid-80's, and older man put his hands on my daughter's waist and started raising them up her body. He did this while he was in the little store that he managed that many little kids stopped at after school. My daughter was very small, but no dummy. (She was MY daughter!) She immediately ran from the store and called me and I called the cops and we all met at my apartment. I had her explain this all to the officer. Being a very articulate young lady, they were very impressed, but hesitant. It was back in the mid-80's and sexual abuse was not the bell-ringer it is today. We then went to the police station and I said I wanted to press charges and they said since it was only fifth or sixth degree assault, why would I want to hurt his reputation? I was appalled! I then asked them if they knew how many other young kids that he might have done this to. They were silent. They didn't want to take an old man from his house in hand-cuffs and embarrass him and I said I didn't care. I wanted this on his record just in case he hurts another child. They had to do it because I wouldn't back down. I wanted charges filed and if they didn't, I would go over their head and they knew me well enough to know that I would.

I had to protect my child and she had to know that I would under any circumstances. She should never be afraid to come and tell me anything. I wanted her at the police station so that she would know all of this. She had to believe right down to the core of her soul that she was safe as my daughter. And also, nobody was safe if they touched my daughter!

Good post. Someone whom I know that is 85 years old now tells how he was on his way home from school at a young age when his preist called him over and proceeded to molest him. He walked way around that way in the future. Not all victims become perpetrators. His eyes still tear up when he tells the story. He totalally gets it that he was not at fault in any way intellectually. His tears are a vesceral response to trauma that his body still, 76 years later, recalls. Because he was catholic there is no way he could have dealt justice to priest ...absolutley inconceivable.

When will we all learn that these people have a clearly established psychological hedgemony over our view of who and what they are. Reliegion is the clearest form of control ever divised and it certainly subjugates the so-called meek.

Humbie, I live in Washington State as well. Did you know that Washington is the only state with a civil commitment for sex offenders? We have a facility that forces the highest risk offenders to continue confinement indefinitely even after they have served their prison sentences. It may not be a perfect system, but it is far better than any other state is doing to protect their citizens from sex offenders. I am proud to live in a state that recognizes that just because a person has served their "debt to society" doesn't mean that they're no longer a serious threat to the security of others. Let's be honest, it isn't really possible for a pedophile to adequately pay his debt to society.

Then you were not part of the discussions on newsvine when all the articles were popping up regarding priests getting caught, the vatican covering it up, etc... there were plenty of people that were seemingly unable to reconcile their morality and their religion opposing eachother... they would say, "oh, it's just a couple of bad priests"... "the vatican would never protect a child molester".. etc... it was like they were in denial...

BUT... more to my point, even the ones that were able to realize the damage these priests were doing, were still much more lenient in their condemnation than what I'm seeing here in this vine... and I just wonder why that is?

V, judging from the articles and comments I have read on msn and newsvine, very few people feel priest pedophiles should go unpunished. Including commenters who report being Catholic.

My own Catholic raised opinion is that those "few bad priests" deserve the same punishment as any other child molestor/rapist. I also feel that any priest or clergy superior who supported coverups of pedophile crimes should face prison. Right up to the pope, if need be.

to V.. Priests being caught for child abuse is about as regular as other people being caught for child abuse. It is a definite shame that ANYONE would defend ANYONE else from prosecution for acts like this, but honestly, I think more people use those cases to bash religion than they defend the priests, in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if less than %5 of the people who hear about those cases defend the priest.

I'm pretty sure the roman catholic church uses the same bible, or 99.9% the same bible as the one my church uses(the difference being the words used, i.e. "thou" instead of "you"), yet somehow we don't have that same rigid structure that the roman catholic church has.

My point being, religion/the church has been used to control people, but that is a HUMAN using something to control someone else. Humans can use food to control others, they can use pain, they can use sex, they can use toys, etc. In fact a large part of your childhood is controlled by your parents.

Stop trying to blame religion for the actions of people who would find a different way to control if they could.

Doctor Leon: Hubby has told me about a girl he dated before we met who actually had "scars" on her knuckles from nuns hitting her. the church seems to have enough blame to go all around the children they traumatized, not just the infamous priests.

I suspected as much. When the media finally tires of priest-outing and needs a new sensational series of news articles to draw readers, maybe we'll start seeing investigative stories about nuns. That will probably sell a lot of newspapers. But like rape, I suppose it's difficult for older women to come forward and tell stories about being abused by nuns. I wonder if the Vatican would attempt to shield, protect and hide criminal nuns the same way they've done for criminal priests.
