I disagree Lauren, the only thing animals like this deserve is death. It takes a doctor to administrate the chemical castration medicine and in my opinion that doctors time could be better spent on real patients with real illnesses. Now I do agree with death by battery acid administered through the openings in the skin left by a cheese grader.

I think the doctors will stand in line for the opportunity to fix a pedophile. Some might even do it for free.

This is NOT castration, and to call it such is nothing more than an inflammatory tactic. This is simply one more drug in the arsenal that can...and should....be used to stop criminals with a history of physical violence toward others from continuing that behavior. If they can't control themselves and pose a danger to society, society needs the ability to protect itself. Personally, in the cases cited here, I'd vote for the real thing.

We forget that in many cultures men and boys regularly cavorted, as in ancient Greece- it was socially and ethically quite acceptable. We have become slaves to certain ideologies forgetting the biological drives and customs of humans over the millennia. Of course, actual violence and disfiguration and murder must be punished, but we must also get rid of some of our modern prudery.

It makes me so mad that our insane thirst for political correctness and "fairness" will prevent this form of treatment from passing into law in this country. The liberal democrates would never support this punishment. It's too "cruel and unusual." I say bull$**t to that. The South Korean's have it right.

I'm a bit disappointed after reading this article; the term "chemical castration" led me to believe they'd be using acids or whatnot to melt said parts off. To me, using chemicals to suppress their urges after they've committed their crimes isn't a fit punishment. Heck, anything short of torture doesn't seem fitting for some of the crimes listed here.

It would be at least a step in the right direction in this country.

Having known someone who was falsely accused of a sex crime, I have to disagree with you about physical castration.  I think chemical castration is a good substitute (if it works, that is).  If it turns out the woman was herself a psychopath (as happened with my co-worker), then the chemicals can be withheld, and the guy goes back to a "normal" life (if his life can ever be normal after that). 

That is pretty much the same logic as being against the death penalty - it is irreversible. 

I don't know why they let them out of prison to begin with. If you deliberately and knowingly violate a child in this manner, you shouldn't have ANY rights. If it were my child, I would be waiting outside the prison gates...I think chemical castration and "therapy" is a start. Put them in general population and let the dice roll as they may is even better. and Clarence, your post is effed up.

I'm with Binski. Do the real thing as in "cut them off." In fact, I'd go further-- do a "Lorena cut," leaving only the basal one-half inch of the stem. This may sound barbaric, but it seems like a sure way to stop them. These monsters cannot be cured. By the way, I'm a liberal Democrat, so don't paint all of us with a broad brush.

....With all the screaming about civil rights, cruel and unusual punishment plus a lifetime of persecution for often times minor offences like touching and sex between teens just a couple years apart in age, I think sexual offences should be catagorized by degree of assault, and punished accordingly........Once may be a mistake or the results of extenuating circumstances, but twice guilty, your it......Instead of extending sentences after time has been served or persecuting for a lifetime as a sex offender, states should give an option and require once convicted sex offenders to sign a contract agreeing to voluntary casteration, or removal of ovaries before release for a serious offence, on upon a second conviction of any sexual offence......A signed contractual agreement would not violate anyone's rights or be cruel and unusual punishment......It must be as much about fairness as punishment, convicted murderers, burgulars and bank robbers are not subjected to extended sentences or a lifetime of persecution after time has been served......... so why not be fair and either sentence them all to a life of persecution or give them a reasonable option that would protect the public and allow offenders an oppertunity at a pretty much normal life after time has been served......Personally, I have no mercy for pedifiles, but do sense a need for fairness in our justice system

I'm more for the chemical castration than the physical. Too many people have been wrongly accused of too many things for something so permanent to be the norm. And, as one poster stated, what about female rapists?

However, I think the current system of dealing with actual sex offenders, especially violent sex offenders, are not fairly balanced either. And this is from the mouth of a victim.

Jesus Christ. I cant believe some of you are opposed to this! This new law will only apply to people who molest children at or under the age of 16 (which 44% of rape cases are) This in my opinion is too easy! what would you do if a dog permanently injured a child? You'd take it out back and shoot the damn thing! ShinyShoes made some interesting points. The first being that most people who molest children would continue to do so even after castration. I actually watched a special on datelineNBC where they interviewed multiple cons. When asked the question "would the possibility of castration deter you?" they all said "No" and that they would find other ways to do what they do!! Life in prison isnt a good idea either because it just costs tax dollars paid by you, me, and other hard working individuals.... and frankly they dont deserve it! The solution in my opinion as drastic as it may sound is the death penalty! although some of you claim its too harsh because some people may be falsely acccused, and as terrible as that may be. it can still be said about any punishment really.

So the my final thought on chemical castration is..... its not the answer. but it sure is a step in the right direction!

Wow, I'm reading a lot of comments regarding torture. I'm assuming most people here live in the US, and I firmly believe that there is no crime that warrants torture. Down that particular rabbit hole is just one giant mess waiting to happen. If its fit for pedophiles who rape children, what about statutory rape where the child is willing? What if the two are only a few years apart, say 15 and 19? Hell, why not extend it to rapists in general. And of course, murder's a worse crime than rape (in the eyes of most people) so why not toss that in too. The 8th amendment bans cruel and unusual punishment for good reason.

That being said, I think chemical castration is a fitting punishment for sexual offenders. That combined with therapy could help some of those totally screwed up individuals, which I think should be a priority for the justice system. And in the case of a false conviction, chemical castrations are not permanent.
