Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Egypt and yes Israel were all created inbetween 1910s-1940s due to the Palestine Mandate. The Ottoman Empire ruled the middle east from 1600s to after WWI (they lost the middle east to England, who took over, because the league of nations wanted to create countries for the States above). Palestine is a term, used for a region of land, better know as the "land of the Philistines". Philistines were of Greek origin, not Arabs.
There was never a country called Palestine or a people called Palestine, until 1960s or 1970s.

I agree with you. The Palestinians were created a a publicity strategy to convince the world they belonged there. They used to be called Arabs, Nomads etc. The only thing I disagree on is that there was a Palestine before '48. But it was a land not a people and referred to the land on which Jews have lived longer than anyone else, in in a majority in ancient times and a majority since the mid 19th century.

Please relay the report that the video was editied. Also 4 reporters from Al Jazzer ( hardly a Israel supporter) were on board the ship the attacks took place and I haven't seen anything from them disputing the Israeli claim. If they have please relay that story.
Also regarding the shooting. The Israeli soldiers were armed with paintball guns AND 9mm sidearms. The sidearms were only to be used as a last resort in self defense.
No piracy on the high seas. It was a completely legal boarding during a completely legal blockade.

i assumed divers in wetsuits shot by the navy would have been in the water. the article refers to them as divers. maybe i'm wrong on that.
I'm not necessarily against Israel on this particular issue (alike the flotilla raid wherein I think they acted very irresponsibly). If the 4 divers were in fact militants armed and intent on harming israel (as it appears they were), then i'm cool with them being taken down.
I just don't like Israel's policy of tampering with and withholding evidence (e.g., not releasing the entire flotilla raid video) and "remarkable forehead shot accuracy" stories. That is really the only point I was trying to make. Throw in the attack on the US liberty and plenty of evidence of Israeli spying and I don't think we should trust Israel, at all, on anything.
That is not to say we should trust Hamas either! And when they do something equally stupid, i'll be on the bandwagon to call them out.

Brilliant! I think a lot of it has to do with who the targets are. The Palestinians (or whatever they are) believe every Israeli is a target while the Israelis believe that only terrorists are targets.

I think a substantial difference between Israel and the Palestinians is the way they react to killings. Make no mistake killings occur on both sides.
When an Israeli kills a Palestinian, there is an investigation, and the prisons in Israel contain many Israelis, including soldiers, who have killed Palestinians.
When Palestinians kill Israelis, there is jubilation, squares are named after them, they are heroes. Even someone as insidious as Samir Kuntar, who killed a child with his rifle butt, returned home a hero. My guess is that there isn't one Palestinian in jail in Gaza for killing an Israeli. Or even an attempted murderer (i.e. rocket launcher).

Yes, the Palestinian people do want to make peace with Israel, and am sure Israel wants to give them their own state. Right on. Israel gives humanitarian aid for some of the Palestinians.
It is the Leaders who do not. Hamas dominates and dictates to the Palestinian Government. They have great influence on the Leader Abbas, because his life is threatened every day by these Terrorists. Palestinians would be doing alright, if it were not for Hamas.

SIZE OF ISRAELI AND PALESTINIAN TERROTERIES ACCORDING TO OSLO
AGREEMENT AND INTERIM SETTLEMENT OF THE AGREEMENT
According to the interim process of Oslo Agreement, a Palestinian
Authority would consist of Gaza and the West Bank. These territories
are known as occupied territories and Israel has limited control over
these.
The size of current Palestinian Authority consists of these two areas,
mainly Gaza strip and the West Bank. The size of the West Bank is 5690
square kilometers and the size of the Gaza strip is 365 square
kilometers ( i ). While the total size of the State of Israel
(Including Gaza and West Bank ) being 20,770 square kilometers ( ii ).
As of July 2000, 100 percent of the Golan Heights, 99 percent of the
Gaza Strip and 39.7 percent of the West Bank is under the control of
the Israeli Government ( iii ).

With the financial backing of the oil-rich Arab nations, two militant Palestinian groups succeeded in evicting the Israeli out of the Gaza Strip. As the possibility of a new Palestinian nation in the Gaza Strip emerges, two leading political organizations, the Hamas and the Abbas, vied for governance. Once again, the hatred of the Jews became the main focus of the two political groups. Unfortunately, in the end the Hamas, the political party with the most hate toward the Jews, received the most votes. In order to secure and consolidate political power, the Hamas has expediently waged a sporadic war against Israel. As United States is the leading supporter of Israel, the Palestinians have waged a war of terror against Americans. Drowning Grover, You are right in regards to critizing Israel. However it's very easy to pass judgement in the comfort of our homes, having not walked a mile in Israel's shoes. I at least try to put myself in their situation ( which I admit is next to impossible) and go from there.
In my 55 years I have never lived in an atmosphere where I am surrounded by countries that want to see me dead. Never had to send my children to school wondering if a suicide bomber or a rocket is going to kill them. Or me and my family go to the market and wonder about a car bomb going off. I just can't concieve living like that day in and day out.

Yes, there is connection. Continued unqualified support for Israel = bleeding the country

The article talked about Israeli targets. Were they in a restricted military area? Have there been other attempts of this type? Were the swimmers trying to escape after being warned to surrender? Were they armed? With their history of blowing themselves up it wouldn't be real healthy to take your boat up to them, would it?
