since we live under a government of by and for the people, it seems a bit convenient to try to avoid responsibility by just stating that something is the law. We have the responsibility at all times to change the law, marching in protest is part of that process. That we believe "all men are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights" does not limit those rights only to males, and, it becomes a patriotic duty to defend those rights in all to whom they were endowed. Has he our any of the Hispanic Caucus Congress people requested that legal citizens in the U.S. be forgiven for a couple of crimes they may have committed in the past. If they want amnesty for all these illegals should they also not grant amnesty to all people in the U.S. that were convicted of a misdemenaor and or one non-violent non-drug related felony? What is good for one group is good for another. If the U.S. had to implement the draft today no illegal could be drafted to protect the freedom of this country. Why should they get benefits that our own citizens can't even get.

TomAlt, I understand and agree with your, but there is one problem. Federal law enforcement does not enforce the properly. If they don't/won't determine if an employee is illegal, then how can anyone accuse the employer of hiring illegals. The states can't challenge anyone's citizenship, so by extension they can't accuse an employer of hiring illegals. Now that AZ has something in place, perhaps they can start enforcing this law at the employer level.

Hello, if I may voice my opinion with all respect I will. I used to be illegal, I have read some posts here and would like to offer up information that you may not have considered.

Undocummented people do pay taxes. When we first arrive in this country, the first words of advise from both legals and illegals is to file your income taxes every year so that the day that you qualify to apply for residency, you'll be able to prove that you lived here as legally as possible. What happens then is what none of you are aware of. Because we are not in your files, we do not get a tax refund. So every year the US gets to keep all that money and it never is accounted for when the subject of how much we contribute comes up. When we owe taxes, then we do count & have to mail in a check, then illegal doesnt matter. I dont even want to get into immigrants who are not business savvy and file as a business sole propriator as oppose to forming a corp to absorb some of the business costs and pay self employment tax too (we do own businesses - think about it - house keepers, gardeners, etc).

Another point to consider. Did you know that a lot of the "12 million undocumented" that you are so angry about for not being legal, should be? Remember, I'm speaking from personal experience, if it wasn't because my mom had become a US citizen, I'd probably still be waiting for my papers. There are probably thousands or millions that are on the same boat. I waited near 10 years to get my papers. Keep in mind that for you to apply for residency, you must already qualify TODAY, yet you have to wait 10 years +. Strong Supreme Court precedent in support of Arizona immigration law

On Monday, the ACLU announced a lawsuit challenging the Arizona illegal immigration law on the basis of the “prohibition on unreasonable seizures under the 14th and Fourth Amendments.”

The ACLU, however, might have a difficult time making that case. In 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a unanimous decision in Muehler v. Mena that questioning someone regarding their immigration status is not a violation of Fourth Amendment rights - provided that person is already lawfully detained.

If you want to discuss solutions to this problem, here's one - incarcerate all illegal alliens in this country and put them in a "penal stockade" like the one the AZ sheriff created. Feed them cold MRE's. Them give them a choice - mandatory 5 yr. initial hitch in an infantry brigade, followed by another 5 yrs. when they can change their MOS, after which time you get your citizenship. The other option is 10 years in the stockade and deportation afterwards. If you opt for the military hitch and then desert, you get a 20 yr. sentence into a military prison (where you won't get to direct illegal drug business on the outside) and then get deported. And before you ACLU barracks lawyers jump down my throat, there is historical military & legal precedent for this. I know, I've witnessed it. First off, do not belittle our soldiers that way especially this Memorial day weekend.

Secondly, you are the people that do not ubderstand our border problems. The Government cannot legally post soldiers on the border in any way shape or form. This is why the National Guard postings are incredibly weak.

They can do nothing but watch and report. Even now with 1200 National Guardsmen and you break that down over a 24 hour day, 1 guradsmen will have to watch 12.3 miles each way without a weapon he can legally discharge.

I'll go one step further with the answer to your question by adding one of my own; How do they pay taxes if -some- get paid cash? = The same way an American waiter pays for their tips. I feel for you Jesse. I felt the same way at the D.C. Million moms March in 2000. There were hundreds of thousands of gungrabbers assembled and mere 4,000 or so Americans there supporting our 2nd Amendment.

Something big needs to be done to show Americans the absolute importance of showing up at these rallies to show their opposition to tolerating treason. For a little education on the legality of SB1070 and for those that think it is unenforceable, please read the following from Federal Immigration law:

"State and local law enforcement officials have the general power to investigate and arrest violators of federal immigration statutes without prior INS knowledge or approval, as long as they are authorized to do so by state law."

"There is no extant federal limitation on this authority. The 1996 immigration control legislation passed by Congress was intended to encourage states and local agencies to participate in the process of enforcing federal immigration laws."

In fact SB1070 is not as harsh as the previous paragraph of Federal law since SB1070 has a provision against racial profiling while Federal law allow reasonable suspicion to include: "dress or speech indicating foreign citizenship".

You already have to show ID any time you are pulled over in a car, and any other time you come into contact with police officers while investigating or responding to calls. So screaming about something you already have to do as something new and evil will get you no where here.

And me personally, I would gladly be willing to show ID any time I come in contact with an officer if it will help get rid of ILLEGALS. I am even willing to endure road blocks checking ID's if it will help get rid of them. Go to the back of the line and come in with a work permit/green card and we will welcome you with open arms.

Whenever I've been pulled over by a cop, I've had to show my license and registration. Not just one piece of ID but two. I've been pulled over for no reason as well. I'm white, native-born in the USA. I didn't throw a fit and cry foul. Why? Because that's what everybody has to do: Show ID.

You have to show ID when you're pulled over by a cop. You have to show ID to buy alcohol and cigarettes. You have to show ID to open a bank account or get into a bar or buy adult videos. Why on earth should illegal aliens get treated differently than people who are here legally?

You have a problem with showing ID, attack the broader requirements of *all* citizens to show it where the law demands, not just the slice that applies to people who came here illegally.

That's the real bad joke the politicians are pulling on the American people. All they have to do is require a "Fingerprint" scan to get in to vote, and one on the ballot!!! We have the technology to have this done not only at the voting places but, hospitals, schools (parents of those enrolling their children), etc. etc. Think of the convenience, and security of it. You no longer would have to Press #2 for English, it would know automatically, no more codes to remember, or forget, you wouldn't be asked another form of I.D. when using your credit card, etc. etc.

It would only "Guarantee" your who you say you are! Not like DNA registration where they can use it to deny you medical insurance, etc. because of the info from it. Think about it, and who profits from the current "outdated"systems we now have in place!!

If you have done nothing wrong, then you should have nothing to fear. It is like the seat belt law here where I live. The police cannot stop you soley for not wearing a seat belt. But if you are speeding and they stop you and you do not have a seat belt on, then they can write you a citation for not wearing your seat belt.

My thoughts exactly....I live in CA and see it being turned into Tijuana.....Mexican signs all over the place, Mexicans standing on street corners looking to be picked up for work (which is always paid in cash) MExican music playing over sound systems in stores like Sears and mariachi bands in Walmart. I checked the demographics at the census website and they're reporting roughly 100,000 illegals have left AZ in the past year. A lot of the illegals who've fled over the past year went to Utah, Texas and California. Those states'll all be feeling the pinch soon in their ERs, schools, etc.

I live in CA and we already feel the pinch. Sadly even our job postings say "must be bilingual Spanish/English". What is up with that - I was born in the US and have worked all of my life and now I have to speak Spanish to get a job. Of course - since here in CA we must provide all services in the language of the person applying.
